With the material alone I thought she was a helpful teacher. She taught multiple ways to solve a problem, which was at times confusing. It was a night class so maybe she was burnt out by then. The only issue I had with the class was lack of control by her. Just other students constantly talking out, which in a math class is hard to focus.
Super confusing until you get the hang of her teaching style. She is willing to make adjustments but ask her privately not in front of the class. If you commit yourself there is no reason you should do well.
Ms. Young was very confusing & disorganized. Her teaching methods were odd: instead of teaching a formula or showing a way to solve the problem, she would give us a problem & expect us to solve it. The study guides she gives don't reflect the tests at all. If you like stress, frustration, confusion, & being angry then this is the teacher for you!
She's a good teacher, but she gives so much homework and if you turn in any of it late or come to class late then you will only get 50% credit for your work. Over all, she can be confusing, but when you get a hang of her teaching style, then you will learn a lot from her. Her study guides are helpful, so take those seriously. Best Stat Teacher.
Ms. Young teaches a pretty fun class. She'll sprinkle anecdotes throughout the semester that makes the math seem more human... Getting an A in her class SHOULD be easy, she lets you use a cheat sheet on tests, constantly exposes you to the material, gives you class notes, and the study guides are pretty indictaive of what the tests are like.
Although Ms Young does make a few careless mistakes, she's incredibly accessible and cares about all of her students' grades.
Do not take her for trig. She is very scattered and all over the place. Most of the time she does not know what she is doing, and makes a lot of mistakes during lectures.
I'm in her class right now and she's really scattered everywhere. Her lectures are hard to follow sometimes and she always doesn't know what she's talking about. Coming to class is a MUST and participation is a decent part of your grade.
Currently in the class and I would not take it ever again with her. It seems as if she read the textbook the night before and tries to explain a whole section the next day. It is awful. I learn more studying on my own on MyMathLab than I do in her class. I do not recommend taking her. She also leaves a lot of homework and quiz's each week.
Love Ms Young!! Math is not my strongest subject but she made me love her class. She is super accessible and cares about all her students. I would definitely take a class with her again. (And go to her office hrs. That helped me A lot!)
She is a very good teacher as long as you follow along and show up to class. If you miss class you are definitely going to be so confused. The homework is the typical amount you'd expect for math, assigned every night, it wasn't so much you cant handle. As long as you stay on top of things you'll be okay. Her exams are just like the study guide
Class was very straight forward. As long as you keep up on notes and homework you will be fine. She prints note packets that are easy to follow along with. You do a quiz at the beginning of each class. Do the practice tests and you will pass. Most of the tests we had a cheat sheet, we had 5 - 6 sheets on the final. CALCULATOR IS NECESSARY!!
This lady is just all over the place. She also doesnt leave time for questions; she will move right along. If you really struggle with math, she isnt not recommended.
Ms. Young grading criteria for Math 50 is very simple and easy to understand. To pass this class you need to show up for the lectures and do your my math labs. She is very accessible outside of class. Lots of Homework both in class and online. Do not recommend if you're working fulltime like me. Recovering from procrastination is hard in this class
Ms Young is probably one of the best professors Ive had. She really takes the time to make sure you know whats going on. Always willing to answer questions! She understands that life happens and trys her best to help you out. She lets you have a cheat sheet for tests, which is a great help with all the formulas youll be learning! CALCULATOR!
Ms. Young is honestly one of the best professors when it comes to teaching stats. She explains things pretty thoroughly with you. She lets you have cheat sheets during exams and that is a plus. You need to participate in this class, but it honestly helps you learn and understand concepts/problems. Definitely recommend taking her!
She is a great teacher. She really cares about her students and gets to know them. One of the best math teachers that I have ever had. She gives great study guides that prepare you for what is on the test. There is a lot of HW. She loves her job and it shows. She also holds study sessions before the tests to help everyone understand the material.
Only thing I didnt like was some times we fell behind due to other students, but she handled the situation well even when things got tense
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Ms. Young is one of the best teachers at Las Positas. If you're majoring in a liberal arts degree I would recommend this teacher because she keeps class entertaining and uses real life situations to help explain the content. She provides extra credit problems and is often available outside of class in the math lab. Great teacher!
Ms. Young really wants you to succeed. If you make an effort so will she. I had her for both Statistics and Finite math and she made both topics my favorite Ive ever taken in math.
I had a wonderful time with Ms. Young. I had been on the wrong path during my semester. She let me into the class 3 weeks late, allowed me to make up for it, and was Ana amazing teacher the rest of the way. Her handouts help for the test. A lot of in class work with hands on teaching. Is really receptive with questions that students have
Ms young has been my favorite math teacher. She is very helpful and her lectures and study sheets help a lot !! She really cares about her students. She is not confusing at all , you are able to ask questions anytime. The homework is not overwhelming. She does give quizzes every class but it helps to make sure you are on track.
I really like the class ! I really thought that it was going to be a hard semester because of this class as well as the mass communication class that i took at the same time. Thanks again Ashley
I really enjoyed Ashley young's class in that she was very helpful and caring. she really wanted you to succeed and was willing to help you with anything to do so. i really enjoyed her class even though i hate math i really enjoyed this teacher.
Best and by far favorite teacher at Las Po
Professor Young's class was challenging for me, but she made learning the material interesting and fun. I would definitely attend another class given by Professor Young.
She's a good professor, would take her again. Just make sure you do your homework on time, come to class, and be active during class. Also, prepare for lots of homework and lecturing.
Great teacher! She gives very clear notes that I still use for tutoring. If you don't understand something in class go to her office hours. She does a lot to make sure you have everything you need like cheat sheets and even a graphing calculators. Make sure you practice the concepts a lot and you'll pass
Ashley is really nice and understanding about getting test anxiety. She teaches at a steady pace and you can tell she wants all of her students to understand the material.
I loved professor Young Statistics class because she made it fun while explaining complex concepts. What I liked the most was her enthusiasm that inspired me to focus on the material. I wouldn't say the class was difficult but it required lots of homework in order to learn the formulas and the pathways to use for each kind of problem.
Ashley is a great professor! She uses new technology to help her lectures and she tries different methods on teaching students (since everyone learns differently). She is approachable when you have questions. Also like that she is personable, and truly cares about her career and students. Sometimes her lectures are too close to due dates, but OK!
Really good teacher. I had her at night( for statistics) so everyone was tired, but she kept the class going. You definitely can't skip class because attendance counts toward your grade. Her lectures always have good review and she goes over new content well. Her quizzes aren't graded, they are just for review so no sweat. 10/10 would recommend
Ms Young gives detailed lectures, notes, and study guides that ALL get uploaded to Canvas! Tests are of moderate difficulty, but you are allowed to use a small page of notes. One of the best math teachers I've ever had - you just have to pay attention, participate and ask questions if you need, and most of all put in the work for that grade.
Good class, I definitely learned a lot however the lectures could feel very long. Very nice lady and willing to help. The last test is the hardest and it dropped my grade significantly. I wish we had spent more time on that unit because I don't think I fully understood it.
Shes the reason Im planning on becoming a Math teacher. You can tell shes passionate about what she does and shell teach you everything you need to know for her tests. As long as you show up for class, shell make sure you know your stuff.
This professor is very disorganized and gives so many handouts. Her lectures are confusing and she thinks shes explaining them when shes really just confusing the class. Shes calm one moment and then yelling a second later. If you want to pass go to every class, do all the homework and definitely get a tutor
Ms. Young is the best math teacher! She LOVES teaching & it shows she's ALWAYS down to help! Class is very hard plan on spending 5 hrs/week after class. Participation is about 8% of your grade so just SHOW UP Tests are difficult but she has study groups before each exam(EXTREMELY HELPFUL)plus 1/2paper for formulas. Put in the work & you will PASS!
Prof Young is a solid choice for stats. She tells you exactly how she wants problems done and allows 1/2pg notes on tests. She really encourages students to talk to one another for moments you might have a question but don't want to ask or to hear the same concepts but explained by other students. Lectures are put online and so is HW. Labs are easy
I loved her so much that I came back after failing her class the first time. And i'd take her a third if i had to! Ms. Young is everything a teacher should be: thoughtful, passionate, and funny. Its math, so DO NOT SKIP CLASS. But she repeats everything so you really start to remember it all. If you have to take stats, take ms. young for sure!!!
She talks very fast (a natural trait) and goes through material like the Flash. That does not leave enough room for students to absorb the material. I did great for 2/3 of the class because I taught myself everything through Connect Math homework assignments but couldn't keep up with her in 3/3 of the class. So stopped going and may receive a D-F.
Ms. Young is not only an overall great professor who has a real passion for what she does but she also wants you to push yourself the hardest you can. As long as you put in the time and ASK for help you will be fine. Do all your assignments, participate, and stay on top of things!
Professor Young is an amazing Stats teacher and I definitely recommend taking her class! Her lectures go throughout the whole period, but they're really informative and beneficial for test day, so go to class! If you need extra help, she offers an optional exam prep study class before the test. She loves teaching and does her best to help students!
Professor Young will be very strict with anyone out of place. Stay off your phone and don't talk while she is lecturing (It is just common courtesy) but she will call you out on it. She is a great teacher and really knows what she is talking about. If you don't understand anything there are plenty of options to get additional help.
Average amount of homework for a math class. Professor Young makes things simple to understand, and you do not need a textbook. She gives you all the handouts you need and you write your notes on them including examples, and can even use a notecard for all the tests. She is super understanding as well, but you better be there every day!
Ms. Young is an awesome teacher! I took it for Fall 2020 so it was entirely online with synchronous virtual class times. She can be pretty strict, but she also is extremely thorough in her lectures. Super participation heavy, if you don't show up or don't pay attention you will lose points. Very caring and helpful when you have questions.
Ms. Young is a good teacher but her style didn't work for me. She yells loudly which is very jarring and sometimes gives us 30 seconds to respond to one of her questions that counts as participation all while yelling at us to "hurry up". She grades harshly on tests as well. I chose her based on reviews here, but it was definitely a mistake.
I was terrified to take Statistics. Iv always done very well in school but STRUGGLED when it came to math. I took stats with Professor Young and was very happy with my decision. Shes a nice person and in my opinion an excellent professor. Highly accessable out side of class. Id definelty reccomend her to anyone nervous about taking statistics
I did the bare minimum for the class and I am extremely happy with my grade. I took notes and did most group work and did the homework. Pay attention during lectures, she explains everything very clearly and gave us notes to fill in, :) and work with your groups to help understand what's going on! 4 big tests, participation is 15% so just show up!
Professor Young is clearly very knowledgeable about Statistics but when it came to teaching it in the classroom she would talk very fast, give us very short amount of time to respond to questions, she yells at us a lot/interrupts/cuts us off after asking us to give an answer. Almost half the people dropped after the first test in my class
She really cares about her students, and her lectures and explanation of the lessons are so well planned out that you can understand the material super well as long as you follow along with the notes that she provides. She works really hard to help her students and is overall so amazing.
Just watch the lectures and you will pass!!! She explains everything so well! I have NEVER been good at math, but I did really well in this class because she explains everything multiple times and forces you to do a bunch of problems until you know it! Just do the HW and class work and you will get an A!
1) Go to lecture 2) Do the hw 3) Profit. Seriously, with cheat sheets for the exams and lenient due dates for other assignments, it's not hard to do well in the class. (I almost 100% all exams) But statistics isn't for everyone- I get that. I felt the same way going in. But with Ms. Young's guidance, I did great and I'm gonna be a stats tutor soon!
Prof Young is a solid choice for statistics. I think she does a really good job of teaching the material at hand. She can sometimes come off very pushy and rude but I think she just wants the best for her students. Her class and presence felt very rushed but it was a shortened semester. I truly learned the material from her. Would recommend.
Great stats professor! Took stats before and had to drop out due to difficulty with professor- Miss Young is an amazing and inspirational teacher. As long as you attend her lectures and apply yourself, you will do just fine. She is caring and truly wants student to succeed. Was given extra credit options on every exam + extra assignments.
I absolutely loved Professor Young. She makes sure each student understands the content before moving on. She offers a lot of help both during class and outside of class. Pay attention and show up to every class and you'll be fine.
Ms Young is my favorite professor ever. The connect math homework platform she uses is so extremely helpful and will help you better understand the concepts if you were a bit lost during class. She provides so many resources! ex. review sessions, tutoring sessions, study guides, & notes during exams. She is genuinely the most helpful teacher ever.
Mrs.Young is the best teacher I have ever had in my life. The platform she uses for homework is so good. You have unlimited tries AND it shows you how to solve the problem. She has multiple review sessions for her exams, practice tests, study guides, and a half page cheat sheet. If you take advantage of all of these, you are bound to get an A.
First of all, Ms. Young is the best teacher I have ever had! She made the concepts super easy to understand, and even records her lectures for reference. I love how she had study sessions before exams and provided lots of practice tests/ study tools. Ms. Young is an extremely caring professor who really cares about her students. Thank you Ms.Young!
A super easy class as long as you do the homework, pay attention in class, and show up! She always gives you extra credit opportunities for every exam. I love her "magic" card tricks, and the homework program she uses. I would take this class again!
I've always hated math, and I was never very confident in my math skills, but taking Professor Young has opened up a lot for me. I fell in love with math, and I enjoyed her class a lot! I learned a lot more, and she always made the class so helpful. You're allowed a cheat sheet on every exam, and final exam too! Take this class if you can!
Professor Young is a great professor. I took her Math40 course, got A's on all exams, including the final. The way she teaches is super helpful. All the homework and classwork is reflected onto the exams. Do the homework and classwork- you should do well on exams. She allows a half sheet of notes on exams as well. She really wants you to succeed.
Literally one of the greatest math teachers I have ever had. I never understood math or was good at it until I took stats with Professor Young! The way she teaches actually makes me understand the material and I did amazing on her tests because the content is actually what we practice in class!!!
Prof. Young was easily one of the best teachers I had for math, she made stats so easy and I would actually look forward to the lectures. For tests, even if you get the answers wrong, she would give you most of the credit if you showed the work, and how you got those answers. I would highly recommend!
Professor Young is by far one of the best math instructors that I have taken so far in my entire life. She has a lecture, but allows students to practice the concepts through the lab problems that she hands out during the beginning of class. If you need to take stats please take it withe her, as you will not regret it.
Professor Young is amazing! I've never rated a professor, but I enjoyed her class so much that I had to let y'all know. Her lectures are heavy so make sure to not miss a class, but is lenient if you do (just watch the lecture.) she's also funny and makes you feel comfortable to ask questions. Personally I'm not good at math but she was so helpful
Ms. Young is good at teaching, however, has very little patience. Whenever you ask her a question, she gives you a very vague answer or expects you to suddenly know how to do it. We go through a handful of topics very quickly, but she explains it well and the notes help a lot.
Prof Young helped me be confident in my math abilities. Her notes are the BEST and makes study guides with answers/how to solve. She prepares you very well for tests, hints/tells you what to expect on the test, and even allows a cheat sheet for all 3 tests + final. Go to office hours and if that isn't enough, LPC has plenty of stats tutors to help
Class is over 3 hours. But I think most of the math classes are adopting this structure now with the adjunct classes being mandatory. Lectures and group work really helped learn the material. Forming study groups and going to the tutor center will help a lot with preparing for tests. She is great and really caring. Take her class if you can.
Professor Young is the greatest math professor that I've had, hands down. She is inspirational and really wants everyone to succeed in her class and in life. I have terrible math anxiety - but I studied, did the hw and got tutoring - and I passed with an A. It's a hard class, but you learn tons. It was worth it! Take her class!!
Professor Young is amazing. She's very supportive of your learning every step of the way!!! Attendance is essential to succeed in this course!!! As she'd say, "you learn math by doing math!" The lectures are key to success because the notes are guided through practice. Take this course if you want to learn math in a supportive environment!!!
It's been a blessing taking Ms. Young's Stats! I truly learned a lot from her! She is no doubt good at teaching, caring, and flexible. Her materials are fabulous, lab work helps a lot, and can truly apply to your life! She'll take you through everything you need to know and prepare you so well for exams. If you need to take Stats, take Ms. Young's.
Easiest (but longest lectures) math class I've ever taken. Just show up and listen to the lectures. You are given a 1/4 page of notes per exam and given the full sheet for the final. Exams are easy and straightforward. Professor is also very friendly, brought us donuts one time. Take the course if you can.
Others had a good experience with her but personally I found her to be a little cold. Yelled at me a few times when I was struggling to understand the problem I was reading because she assumed I wasn't working on the assignment. Yes she was trying to be encouraging but it wasn't well received. Wish I took a different professor.
(Part 6 of 6) Other things about her is she's quite funny, she loves her card tricks, she likes saying "folks" a lot and sometimes she'll have some candy to share, and sprinkles great life advice throughout her classes. If you have to take stats, PLEASE take Ms. Young's. If it was anyone else's, I'm so sure I would have failed.
(Part 5) Ms. Young is definitely intimidating, can be seen as cold, and scared me multiple times but it does keep everyone in check and she really is kind and wants everyone to do well in her class. She also provides a good amount of extra credit opportunities, offers support classes, tells you what the exams will be like, prepares you very well.
(Part 4 of 6) Ms. Young is extremely gifted in teaching, using techniques such as analogies, repetition, catchy phrases throughout and much more to her advantage. What made her teaching especially effective is her ability to clearly articulate concepts and immediately require application of it either by ourselves or with our peers.
(Part 1 of 6 bc of word count) Guys let me tell you, I've hated math almost all my life, except when I understood it. However, I really enjoyed Ms. Youngs stats class, it's definitely one of the best classes I've taken. I'm younger than most in this class and when I first walked in and saw all the equations, I was super scared.
As someone who has struggled with math my entire life, I loved this class. Ms. Young really helped me understand what we were learning, plus she gives plenty of time during and after class to ask for help. She can come off a bit cold and stern, but she truly does care. If you talk to her individually, she's a lot warmer and has amazing stories.
Prof. Young was the sweetest teacher I have had in a long time. She genuinely cares about her students and gives us all the necessary resources to succeed. The lessons were fun and engaging. There are many opportunities for extra credit and the online homework has late passes. Just pay attention in class and you'll get by easy!
(Part 2 of 6) Stats, along with this class being pretty fast paced is definitely a different field of math, (maybe that's why I actually liked it hahah) but as long as you are consistent intentional, and on top of participation, homework, asking questions and truly understanding the concepts it's super doable.
Stats is not an easy course but the way Professor Young would teach made it so much easier. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She's understanding and caring. I had her 3 hour class so her lectures were thorough and she took her time to explain. I would 10/10 recommend taking her class!
She has her moments. Can be a good teacher at times, but then can switch up in a moment and start getting frustrated with your class. She's very helpful in helping you understand the material. Definitely not the worst math teacher I've had, but is an eccentric person though.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had! There's a lot of lectures, but she provides note packets with instructions + practice problems that make it easy to follow along! She also gives us study guides and practice exam packets to study with before each exam. A half sheet of notes on each exam is also allowed! Late passes for HW too!
I loved professor Young. I am usually not too good at math, but I received the highest grade I've ever received in math with professor Young. Make sure you pay attention because all the content comes from lecture.
Literally the best teacher for math I have ever had. She was extremely organized, and her tests were very similar to the study guide. The concepts were hard to understand, but she broke it down very nicely. Highly recommend her.
Ms. Young does an amazing job at teaching such a difficult course. She breaks down difficult concepts and provides outlined notes for you. Her exams are very similar to her study guides and she holds multiple review sessions. She not only wants you to do well in this class, but she tries her best to prepare you for your future!
I haven't passed a math class since I was 13 and I just got an A in this course. Ms. Young is extremely helpful and explains things in a way that's easier to understand especially for people lacking in math skills. She's very nice and thorough and brought treats for our class, and is helpful when you need it or are struggling. Participation matters
