Dr. Hale is an amazing lecturer and truly cares about the subject. She does give a good amount of homework but it's good practice for the tests. I recommend also getting Study Edge to help learn the material better, especially if chemistry isn't your strongest subject. Overall, she was a great professor and super helpful during office hours.

Dr. Hale makes large lectures seem small. She brings a lot of energy every class with her singing and jokes. After hearing horror stories about professors in the other chm2045 sections, I am assuming that Dr. Hale is the best professor for the class. She also gave us two attempts on homework quizzes which the other professors do not do.

The class is a lot of work because it is a weed out class. However, Dr.Hale is super nice she is very relatable and always in a cheery mood and singing songs. However, she fails to use lecture time as effectively as she could on some topics which tended to annoy me. Overall, definitely better than some of the other chem 1 professors.

Dr. Hale brings a lot of energy to her lectures and clearly cares very deeply about her chosen subject. I ended up skipping most of the lectures (despite the 1% iClicker) because she didn't cover the topic as effectively as I could learn it with Study Edge. She assigns a LOT of work, this class took up ~70% of all time I spent working. She's nice.

Dr. Hale is so enthusiastic about her class and very approachable. This class does come with a lot of homework, but the homework was my way of studying for the exams. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hale. She makes chemistry fun :)

Dr. Hale is one of the BEST professors I've ever had. She's so much fun, always has a ton of energy, and is so far the best at engaging the class (even a whole lecture hall) out of any professor I've had. I hate chem as a subject but she made this class actually tolerable. I'm not taking anymore chem but I almost wish I were because of Dr. Hale.

I had Hale for CHM2045 and LOVED her. Hands down the best chem 1 prof, and I made a point to try and get her for chem 2 next semester. She genuinely cares about all her students and making learning chem fun. She really knows how to simplify things and make classes fun. The lectures are engaging because she sings and makes jokes, The main lectures weren't helpful because she spent a lot of time covering concepts at the beginning and then didn't have time to do all the problems at the end of the ppt. Highly recommend going to office hours/using Study Edge for better explanations. need to study a lot to do well

Enthusiastic and engaging, but rarely finished the lecture in the 50-minute time frame. This is probably because she sings ALOT (which I kinda like) and goes off topic sometimes. She really cares about her students and has plenty of office hours outside of class. This is her first year as a professor, and she's doing well. Chose her again for Chm 2

If you don't like nerdy/theatre kid energy, get out. A lot of homework through ALEKS, not useful for exam. It does lead you to the harder stuff tho, but can be annoying.. Her lectures are not great but entertaining. She uses the book, so if you read it no point showing up (besides iClicker). She always runs out of time to finish her lessons.

Dr. Hale is a wonderful professor and in my opinion is the best option for gen chem. The class isn't terribly difficult, but is a lot of work regardless of professor. However, Dr. Hale consistently had less work than other chem profs. She gets distracted in lecture, but obviously cares about what she is teaching. Take her if you can.

Dr. Hale is FANTASTIC! She made me want to be a chemist. There is a lot of work, but that comes with the territory of the course. Some students complain just to complain, and I don't know why some people didn't like her. I enjoyed going to every 8:30 Monday double block. Don't listen to the people saying she sings too much. It keeps the class fun.

Dr. Hale sometimes randomly sings in class, which is weird but she's just a very passionate person. She explains chemistry concepts very well too. Some people complain that she gives a lot of homework but that's not her fault, it's the department. I'd recommend reading the textbook before lecture and going to office hours if you're struggling.

My section met at 7:25 in the morning and without fail, Dr. Hale was chipper, often singing, and excited to teach chemistry. Be prepared to listen to Dr. Hale sing Taylor Swift. The course on the other hand is just awful. No matter what professor you get there will be an infinite amount of homework that you will never have time to stop doing.

Dr. Hale was overall a great professor, and she was super energetic. The class itself was difficult as it was very test and quiz-heavy as those were the only grades except discussion attendance. But overall all the exams were pretty fair and only the quizzes had some unfair content but they curved it when the average was super low.

Dr. Ashlyn Hale was a good professor for CHM2045. She always seemed to have energy to keep you entertained during lecture, even at 8:30. Where she reads her PowerPoint, goes through a number of examples, does some demos or sings. However, this class is very test heavy with 57% of your grade being determined by exam scores.

great professor. good at explaining. very energetic and keeps everyone engaged (she loves to sing). the class is graded only on tests and quizzes but if you do lots of outside practice you should be fine. make sure you understand the concept well for exams and do the ALEKS practice problems for the quizzes.

I love Dr. Hale! She is very cheery and bright. If you prefer a professor who ONLY gets down to business, steer clear of her! She demonstrates a very clear understanding of the material; her slideshows are pristine. My only grievance with the class was the discussion quizzes: partial credit was like justification to take away points, not give them.

I thought Chemistry was really hard, but Professor Hale was fantastic. I enjoyed going to all her lectures. The only grades in the class are quizzes and tests but you should do the optional homework anyway. She loves to sing in class.

I think Hale is a decent lecturer. However, she is very rushed to finish content and we will do half a chapter the day before the exam. Definitely need to put effort in for the exams, even if you do well in the other categories you need to consistently do decent on the exams. They are weighted heavily and made to trick you.

Dr. Hale puts a lot of thought and passion in her lecture material. I enjoy her creative ways of making lectures more fun and engaging. I found quizzes to be a bit hard. I liked that you only needed an 85% to receive an A in her course. I recommend Study Edge since they breakdown concepts better. As well as having additional practice.

Quest Course (Secrets of Alchemy) Hale is an incredible and kind person, but goes on tangents often in lecture. The papers and lab reports are graded super lightly. Labs can take a little while, and are often a slog, but Hale's bubbly personality tends to make it a bit more bearable. I would take another less time consuming course though.

I took General Chemistry 1 in Fall 2023. The course material wasn't difficult and an A felt achievable. Dr. Hale is very enthusiastic and is very knowledgeable about chemistry. My only complaint is that Dr. Hale often sang in class that I found it distracting and off-topic. However, some students may prefer this light-hearted teaching style.

For a quest class, this was a lot of work, however Dr. Hale is amazing to be around and talk to, and you can clearly see her passion for teaching, even just for a Quest class. Labs were an absolute chore though and took forever to do, and lab reports were just busy work.

Dr. Hale's class was not easy but she was enthusiastic and made it easier to digest. Your grade is almost solely based on Quizzes and Exams. If you study HARD, use Study Edge, and redo past quizzes/exams, and occasionally attend office hours, you will succeed. Exams are time consuming to study for but will see positive results if put in the work.

Dr. Hale is very enthusiastic about chemistry and Taylor Swift. Class grade is based on three quizzes, three exams, and discussion attendance. Lectures are fast-paced and exam material is often taught up until the exam itself. Textbook readings, practice problems, and previous exams help immensely. Lectures recordings are posted on canvas.

I really enjoyed Dr. Hales's class. She was so enthusiastic, and you can tell she really cares about this course. I do believe the exams were much harder than they needed to be, especially the final. Overall, I did love her as a professor, but I am a little shocked with my final grade, considering the time I spent studying for her class.

She was clearly very passionate about the class and made lectures engaging. It was a lot of reading/writing and there was a bi-weekly lab but it was a decent quest class and the professor is very understanding and flexible!

Dr. Hale was very fun & involved! Attendance was mandatory for participation grades on discussion group days (splitting up into groups to talk abt questions), and the lectures were interesting. Labs were a bit of a slog but still cool. The class encourages participation and individuality in certain assignments (presentations were fun)! No exam :]

I'm in orgo but had Hale for chem 1 and 2. She is BY FARRR the best gen chem professor. I can't say enough good things about her. Go to her office hours to get any questions answered. She is helpful and kind. She is so charismatic and intelligent. She prepared me best for orgo. She is passionate about chem, and I never dreaded class, even at 8am.

Dr. Hale is a good professor. She is a good lecturer but very bubbly and enthusiastic. She sings in class regularly. Discussion attendance is mandatory and there are multiple homework assignments per lecture (they are not difficult). Exams are fair. Pay attention in lecture and do the homework and you can get an A.

She's pretty good at lecturing. They are recorded so i didnt attend class much. She sings a lot, but its not too bad. It's "expected" that you read the textbook before coming to class but its not that serious fr. I had studyedge and so that helped. I recommend doing the homework problems, tho its not required. Office hours helped A LOT.

I loved Dr Hale. Her exam questions are kind of tricky and conceptual, but she is very approachable if you go to her office hours. Some people call her "crazy" cause she will randomly start singing Taylor Swift in class, but honestly, it helped me remember some material better (I am a Swiftie). Definitely do the practice problems from the book!

Hale is not everyone's cup of tea, but I found her lectures very engaging. I would recommend reading the textbook before class because it's hard to keep up with the lecture if you don't have a background. You don't need study edge, just do all the textbook questions and the practice exams. Exams are hard but plenty of practice will get you an A.

Professor Hale is very energetic and passionate about her class. She does genuinely try to help any students if issues come up. Her office hours helped a lot to expand on certain topics. Chemistry is hard, but she does a good job at teaching it. She does sing and bring up off topic/tangential stuff in class sometimes though.

Very very (VERY) enthusiastic professor; Kind, but sometimes a little too excited to teach to the point where what's on the test is not emphasized. The tests are hard but the practice tests, quizzes, and homeworks are mostly helpful. Super sweet and loveable professor though!

She's passionate, energetic, & good at explaining. StudyEdge is great. Go to her office hours! The quizzes and exams are difficult, but she gives you the resources to succeed. You need to dedicate lots of time % effort, but I got an A in chm 1 & 2 with her. She sings and stuff which I get not everyone likes, but it makes the class more engaging tbh

Dr. Hale was great, very enthusiastic about chemistry, and she had office hours 3 days a week, and even more before exams. Full credit on homework as long as you finish it, no quizzes, 3 midterms + a final, which are difficult but if you're taking this class you should expect that.

She can make things more difficult than they need to be. I recommend her if you've taken AP Chemistry because she helps you understand things on a deeper level. Biggest tip: take past exams and start studying 3 days before (longer if you missed lectures). Expect lower quiz grade than exam grade (but please study!!!). Also, she sings in class.

She's not bad, that's important. Her lectures are insightful and she's enthusiastic (sometimes too much, be ready for singing). However, the exams make up pretty much all the grade and they are very very difficult. Lectures and studying are pivotal. Make use of the TAs and office hours. You'll likely get frustrated or annoyed, but it's still Chem.

I see why people would complain about her teaching style because it is quite ... "extra" BUT it is still really effective while being engaging. I feel like her class made me understand chemistry in ways my high school teachers never could. She likes to build a foundation from the theoretical to further understanding (and tests on these concepts!).

She's overall a decent lecturer, but you need to put in more effort than just showing up to lectures. She is sometimes hard to keep up with because of her singing, but rewatching the lectures posted online 100% helps. If you do ALL the practice exams, review the textbook & practice questions, you'll be okay. Study edge helps, but isn't needed.

idc what anyone says, i loved dr. hale. she is by far the best professor for 2046. she actually teaches in class (when she isnt singing) but i think it makes it so engaging. she is super approachable, and her class genuinely helped so much. you do not need study edge at all, just pay attention in lecture, and DO PRACTICE TESTS!!!

I had a great time in Dr. Hale's class. Her lectures were engaging, and actually explained why things occur the way they do. She is an inspirational teacher. Her exams, however, were insanely difficult. Attending and participating in lectures, completing practice exams, reviewing slides, reading the textbook, and going to office hours helps.
