Boring as a person, but very clear,simple, explains each step. Very easy to understand. He is a detail maniac, but is in fact a very nice guy, more than 80% of the class did not have final, he gave us the average from 2 midterms +1 point over that. Very Sweet!!! Highly recommended

Contrary to most of these comments, I took Vora anyway and I am happy I did. He does teach by solving problems in class, but that helps even more for the exam. He's also very funny! The great thing is that he gives you a choice of taking the final, or averaging the first two tests as your grade.

He is very sarcastic. Doesn't really teach as he just solves the problems from the back of the textbook. Test problems differ from the problems soved in class though. His curves are great though.

Excellent professor if you study & work your calculator. Goes over problems step-by-step the first time. He is sarcastic, but I find it hilarious. He's really not a bad guy. Just hates laziness & those who don't take responsibility for themselves.

I took Vora's class because it fit into my schedule, despite reading bad reviews of him- I think he was a GREAT prof! He always solved problems during class so you would not be surprised when trying to answer a question on an exam - I think that's a better method than simply teaching the theory. He's hilarious and I highly recommend him!

What are you smoking?? His tests are EXACTLY like the questions he doesn in class (in the book). Yeah, ok theyre hard, but he curves so jsut make sure you do better than avg and youll get at least a B-. Example: Last test class avg was a 22 out of 60. A 22 was a B-!!! Just study man!

honestly, i took him over the summer, he wasnt that bad. he basically gives u the exam before hand. u just have to do the hw problems and ull do fine. its not that his class is hard, its just dumb ppl dont understand the basic finance so therefore his class will be hard. DO hw, take notes, ull atleast get a B.

Yes, he is VERY HARD, his exams are tricky, confusing, and long...He will definitely MAKE you learn. He is not a bad professor, if you go to him, and show him that you care, he's not bad, he can be very helpful, He's an A** to those students that come in late, or don't pay attention in class. A great guy with a great sense of humor. Yes, he could sound sarcastic and insulting sometimes, but you learn in his class. This is a class for students who want to learn. This guy is the man, not even joking. If you want to learn real concepts of finance take him. I took Fin 3000 with another professor and seriously I didn't learn a damn thing. I'm learning alot more than I have anticipated. His exam is just like the hw problems and if you think they're not then you are an idiot.

If you do the work which implies READING THE BOOK and doing some xtra work on your own, you'll be just fine. He knows his stuff and will help you to learn if ure willing to learn and show some efforts.

Hes not as bad as people say, you just really have to do your work. Do the hw and read the chapters. Any question he does in class has a good chance of showing up on the tests. So just do the questions over and over again to do well.

To those of you who have registered his class for Fall, good luck. He is not a bad professor at all. He knows what he is doing. I can say he is good for students who really wish to learn. If you want to get an "A" but knowing nthing about the subject's matters, then dont take him.

I like his sharp reaction to students acting unprofessionally and saying thoughtless things. You have to be serious in your work in this class. Bad things: Extremely hard, and zany protocols required in solving questions on test. Good thing: It was fun getting an A on midterm while 15 people got F (even with curve). Also 4610 will seem easy now.

I don't understand why people complain so much. He gives 3 tests, which you'll do fine in if you do all the problems in the book. Finance is not easy so if you do badly its not Vora's fault. He doesn't "insult" students, he just knows that all the students hate him and wants to make sure no one gets away with any cheap excuses.

An excellent professor in finance! If you are a lazy person don't bother taking him. He expect you to work for you grade. The key to doing good in his class is to do all the homework and understand everything done in class.

I was unsure about taking him after reading the reviews here, but he turned out to be really good. He's strict and old school, but unlike other profs, writes everything on the board. 2 midterms, which were moderately hard, 1 MC final, and 10 homeworks, but only 8 are counted. If you are lazy or like to come late, don't bother! I learned a lot!

Overall Great!! In the beginning thought a little tough, but just did what he asked to do, and little bit of work got me B+. He curves that is good and entertains the class so enjoyed attending it.

He is extremely entertaining person, likes to pick on stupid students. 3 tests in total, each 30% weight + 10% for HWs; all are fare, not difficult. You will learn a lot in his class.

like many others, didnt like him the first day. but then i realized he's a great professor.really helped (or forced) you to learn. has strict classroom rules. very well organized. sometimes may appear/sound rude, but a nice guy inside, he prepares u for exams as well as the REAL WORLD. tests were easy, no tricky stuff and he does curve.

i'm taking vora right now, you actually learn in this class. he's extremely organized and anal about things, but that's just the way he is. the tests are all problems that you have to show all your work but you're allowed a formula sheet, so it's fine. he curves, just study problems from book and you'll do fine.

Don't mess with this guy. You'll probably think he's the biggest ****, but overall he's a pretty decent professor. The 2 papers were a disaster, no one even knew what we were supposed to do...but the exams are real easy, just like the questions in the book.

When you first meet this professor you can't help but be scared but then you realize that he is one of the few who actually care about his students, as much as he doesn't want to admit it. The papers can be confusing but the tests are pretty straight forward and his curves are GREAT. I only answered 4 out of 6 problems and got a B+ on the exam.

Professor Vora is a good professor. Whatever he says makes a perfect sense and is very knowledgeable about finance world. He is a little bit grumpy, but underneath he wants every student to pass and cares a lot.

as others said, he pretends to not care about his students, but if you approach him after class he'll gladly spend a few minutes helping you. but he does have a habit of repeating the little things A LOT which wastes time. he tells jokes so stupid they're actually funny. the work isn't hard, just that sometimes his style is unbearable.

Profesoor Vora is one of the best professors I have had throughout my college experience. And he is by far the best professor I have had so far at Baruch. He is there to teach. He is not there to give you a grade just because he feels bad for you. Bottom line, if you go to college to learn then take him, otherwise don't waste your time and his.

Class consists ONLY of solving problems from the textbook with formulas he tells you have little relevance to the real world, so if this is your vision for learning about corporate finance then take him. the exams are reasonable.

He is clear on everything he teaches. He isn't approachable at all because he would say "don't ask stupid questions". HIS EXAMS ARE SO HARD, HE ACTUALLY MAKES YOU THINK, STRICT WITH CHEWING GUM AND NO CELL PHONES, TREATS YOU LIKE A KINDERGARTNER. He could teach, but his exams are extremely hard.

He is clear and straight forward. Very anal about showing every step in calculations. Just read the chapters and know how to solve the end of chapter problems. 3 exams which are challenging consisting only in calculation. He is not the easiest prof. but he is not that bad.

This class is definitely useful for FIN majors. So far we went over bond duration and immunization, financial ratio analysis and two chapters on options. I like his teaching style as well as his obnoxious humor and the way that he teaches us to be meticulous. Thank you, prof. Vora!

Most business classes are boring. But Professor Vora tries to get the class engaged and participate. The class is hard and he is strict. But thats because he is passionate about what he does and he cares about us. He even tells us that he cares about our learning. Take him if you want to learn more than just Finance. It will be hard though

If you really want to learn finance take this guy. Forget about these bad reviews, they are either lazy (this is finance kids!)or too soft. do the homework attend the lectures(attendance not mandatory) and there will be no surprises on exams. he might seem a little strict but is dedicated to his profession. funny dude though. grades are curved.

Class average was 18/48 for first exam but there was a decent curve. Very strict! Cant chew gum and must follow all his rules. If you honestly just study the textbook and redo the problems he does in class, you should at least get a B+ for the class.

He gave GREAT curve, do hw go class study=4.0 do problems in text solutions provided,recvd final exam grade in 10 hours.Listen and follow along, bring txtbook and calc to class everyday, pg notes on Exams allowed. It's a very hard class regardless of what professor you will have. Prof. Vora gave CRAZY CURVE, just 3 chapters per test. He's joking around and mean sometimes but it's only his sense of humor. He's really helpful outside of the class as well

Vora is mean, yes. But he is the best. He has a teaching style that's very clear and that will def. help u in the real finance world. Take his advice(u'll need a thick skin) & go to class! You WILL learn finance the hard way and he makes that clear. Course consists of textbook problems. All 3 exams are moderately hard and long so they require a lot of study time. All the exams come from the textbook problems so master them. There's usually a 15-20 point curve on each exam. Take this class if you are planning on putting in the time.

Thank goodness for professor Vora! He doesn't ask conceptual questions and questions are based on the end of chapter problems. He takes points off if you don't follow his rules but if you follow directions you should be fine. Easy class just very strict.

Have taken Prof. Vora for two consecutive semesters. He has a lot of knowledge and explains things clear. However, you have to spend A LOT of time studying in order to ace his tests. I graduated a few years ago, currently in a finance field...and I still remember prof Vora! The reason why I still remember him, because I learned important concepts that I am CURRENTLY using in the real world. The material isn't that hard, its just a lot of work to get through; one midterm, one final, and five projects. If you follow all the directions, rules and regulations, you can get an A in this course, its not impossible. The professor has a strict attitude and will lecture on your laziness, lack of attention to detail and inability to think.

Great chance to really sharpen your math & analytical skills. To sum it up: No financial calculators, blue book test reliant on 50% math 50% analytical, lots of real world comparisons. This professor will make this class a challenge. In the end, you'll be glad you took him but this is not for the faint of heart for sure. The struggle is real.

Good man! Do the homework (10% of grade), and you are in a perfect position to ace your exam. He has structured it just this way. No unnecessary work, everything is streamlined so you lean what you need to know. If you don't want to do the work don't take his class, on top of that reconsider pursuing a college education.

best finance professor I've had at baruch. this guy not only teaches you how to apply functions but also explains why it's done so. in the beginning you are required to calculate discounted cash flow or mortgage problems by using simple calculator, but if you truly understand the material, you will be fine. it's very rewarding taking the class.

Took him during an intense summer session. Strictest professor I've had at Baruch in terms of grading and homework. However, he has his reasons and after a while you get used to him and his teaching methods. If YOU are not ready to put in the study time then do not take him. You can easily get an A with his curve if you put in the work.

The best professor in Baruch! If you want to learn finance you should definitely take him. I took him over the summer session. Absolutely worth taking, you will learn a lot. He seems very tough in the beginning, but after a few classes you will get used to his jokes. If he sees that you are spending time learning the material he will like you!

He is a very good professor. You'll learn a lot of useful things in his class. His jokes are pretty funny. However, this is not an easy class, which means you have to put into your effort to get a good grade. Three tests, first two exames are 6 numerical problems(not multiple choice!). The third one will be 30 multiple choice questions.

My advice is to go to the class, take as many notes as possible and practice the problems he does in class after each class. Sometimes its hard to cut through his b.s to understand what he actually teaches. The first and mid term are fairly easy if you practice. The material is easy but he will test on challenge questions at the end of the chapter.

This class is by no means an easy class. READ THE TEXTBOOK!!! He assigns about 10 home works that are from the book and the answers are provided, just gotta recalculate with 6 digits. His exam mirrors everything he does in class and the hw. He does a lot of textbook problems in class, about 2 of them are in the exam. Allows a cheat sheet.

If you really want to learn something and you are a Fin major, definitely take him. Yes, he is hard. And he has a lot of RULES!!! But as long as you listen to the lecture, do his homework and read textbook, you will get an A. His first 2 exams are difficult but acceptable. Do end of chapter questions, you will be fine. Vora is by far the best professor i've ever had. He treats his students like adults and expects them to act it. If you're an adult, you will love Vora. If you're still a kid, avoid him. Nothing else matters, but the fact that you will learn a LOT from him. One class with Vora taught me more than all the other courses I had in finance.

Vora is a reflection of a high-demand job environment. If you want to know if you have what it takes to excel in the finance world, take Vora and test yourself on your dedication, intelligence, ability, and over-all aptitude for Finance. He's intimidating with all his rules but he means well. Pay attn to detail for HW and read/understand textbook or get a 0! 2 blue book exams are a mix of prob we go over in class AND overall grasp of chapters. There's 6 Q's, be mindful of time, know how to calc the prob w/o the # being given in the Q. Won't work with you on grades & not helpful.

He TEACHES the material. Goes through every step, and teaches you real applicable material rather than using test banks. He is strict, but its for your own benefit. Straight forward, but if youre looking for MP choice test than this is not for you. I regretted not taking him for all my finance classes.

Truly one of the best professors in the finance department. I regret only taking him for two classes and not more. If you want an easy professor avoid him. If you want to actually learn something in your time in baruch, absolutely take him for every class you can. Just be sure to listen to his lectures and think. You will do well.

Great guy, very tough as well so if you dont like tough guys believe me Prof. Vora will make you cry. Read the textbook, study the problems at the end of the chapter (especially intermediate/challenging) and they prepare you well for his exams. Also review his lectures, the tests are related. Do the homeworks as well, they will benefit u in the end

Great Professor! Explains everything. Very clear grading criteria. Tough. You have to work hard in his class. Do the problems after chapters, redo all the problems he showed in class. Listen carefully for the explanations on the projectS. He really teaches you! He will make you learn something even if you don't want!
