Very hard to follow. Speaks softly and unclearly. Also he will stay on one small piece of a topic for way too long. If you take him, be prepared to do all the learning on your own. Nice man, but the class needs improvement.
doesn't speak good english and the tone of his voice can put you right to sleep...he's a nice guy though
If you thake him, be prepared to take the book and study all by yourself. Never answers the questions right.
the only problem this guy has is his English accent. If the class was in Armenian I think I would have rated him better. But if you read your book you should be fine.
Even with all the faults already mentioned, he is still the best math teacher I had at GCC. PS Accent is not that bad.
He is a great math teacher. His english is the only problem.
from day one, i knew i was with the wrong guide. if you are the kind who is quet in class, you will float all along. his accent isnt that. teaching pre-calc isnt easy to most proff, but he is among the worst.
VERY HARD, BUT INTERESTING AND HELPFUL TEACHER
Bad accent & he can't teach well. Instead of teaching you the right methods he will teach you the methods on what not to do on an exam. You will become your own teacher basically. He's boring & it's easy to fall asleep in his class too.
I like math, but his personality is so dull, dry, cold, and simply boring. At every class period, you can feel your eyelids getting heavier and heavier. It's just too hard to stay awake.
Hard but really helpful teacher.
He is the best math teacher I had in GCC. His accent is not that bad. He is very helpful and not too hard.
At the beginning of the semester, we had 40 people in our class. Near the end of the semester, only 14 students are left. And he would say, oh it's not too bad. The average score on a test would be 65%, and he would say, oh, it's not too bad. Hmmm. . . I wonder who the source of the problem is.
this teacher expects you to know everything about math since second grade! I didn't mind much about his accent, but he sometimes had very much trouble explaining a problem and he confused us very much. You will want to hit your head on the wall everytime you take a test... don't recommend him...
His explanations are not very clear, and his examples are always straight from the book... It is very easy to fall asleep in his class.
he is so boaring but so helpful and easy teacher,
It is very hard to understand what he is talking about. His accent is worse than my grand mAA!!! I did well because I read everything from the book.....He Totally sucks; worse teacher I ever had in GCC
I took him in summer. even though the class is boring and you really have to prepare to teach yourself, mr. Djrbashian is reallly nice. If u r between A and B he will give you an A. I liked hi personality , tried hard to understand what he was explaining but no luck. :). got an A. :)
His class is fairly boring and his tests are not something you look forward too. As long as you try you should pass his class. (Now getting an A is different story ;) )
He's a really good teacher. At first you might think he's tests are difficult, but they're not as long as you skim through the examples in the book and go to class. He's a very fair grader and will give you the higher grade at the end of the term. A very nice and caring professor.
his really one of our ****ed up theachers!!
Lacks intelligent approach on how to educate students. In other words,"does not know how!" Every lecture is like sharp needles of boredem poking ur brains out. He's nice to you when u know the answer to something and if not then he'll look at u like ur stupid. He's not hard he's just undesirable. If u have no choice but to take him, just read the book.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY I SWEAR TO GOD ALL HE WILL SAY IS THAT HE WORKED FOR SOVIET UNION HIS WHOLE LIFE FOR FREE. HUGE ACCENT THAT U DONT EVEN GET IT GRADING AWFULL FOR GOD SAKE ITS VERY HARD TO GET HIGH GRADE ON TEST AND HIS QUESTIONS ARE ALL FROM CHAPTER REVEIW PART OF EACH CHAPTER DO NOT TAKE HIM
horrible, horrible, and horrible. that's all i can say about him. Avoid him
OMG IF YOU WORK YOUR *** OFF YOU END UP WITH C. HE HAS THE LANGUAGE PROBLEM TOO. ALL HE DOES IS TO COPY THE EXAMPLES FROM THE BOOK ON THE BORD.AVOID HIM.
i cant understand a word he says!
The only thing I can say is that he is weird...if you take his class then get ready to be self-taught....he is a cool guy but he is also boring and his method of teaching is odd....
he was really good teacher that ever i had b4. he explained all kinds of stuffs clearly and also i got an A in his class without doing anything. all tests are from exercices and review!
doesnt seem very smart. doesnt let students use a graphing caluclator in stats. tells us to use a computer.... like we r going to use one during a test.....
terrible accent took him in the summer and got my b might as well not go at all. Fell asleep half the time and if u take him good luck and bring a pillow to rest your head
y do these ppl pick professors who cant teach for higher math classes? i mean if he confuses and contradicts himself wut should the students expect to learn? i didnt knw copying the examples off the book was teaching? and plz if u are going to teach math lose the accent! or just stop teaching! although i think he knew his math his difficulty was teaching the material...o well some ppl are just not suppose to teach!!
i advise everyone that goes to glendale community college not to take this teacher....he can not teach, and has the thickest accent i have ever heard! please, for ur sake, and my sake, do not take him! he disgusts me.
Nice teacher, answers your questions, but his English accent and his tests :( :( :( I don judge him, but his classes are hard to pass
Good guy but the way he teaches is not what I would call teaching.....
He was the worst teacher I have ever had. I have been at GCC for 2 years and he is the worst instructor. He degrades the students and is not encouraging at all.
He is very funny and nice. His class is itneresting becasue sometimes he makes jokes about people but he only does it to entertain people and not hurt that one person. He made fun of me too but i really didn't care because that's the way he is. His tests are pretty easy, just listen to his lectures and u'll be fine.
If you are good at math and can teach yourself, this class is a breeze. He doesn't make you remember formulas or figure out graphing calculators and his test are from the book. If you are not good in math, this is not the class for you. He is a terrible teacher; he lectures straight from the book (word for word) and gives confusing explanations.
I'm really bad at math and having him for a teacher REALLY did NOT help at all.first of all, he has a pretty thick accent so it was so hard to understand him.secondly,he doesn't do much teaching, he just goes by the book.after u get used to his tests, they get easier but if it wasn't for my tutor,i never would have been able to pass.NOT recommended
He has a very bad accent that's why many people have problem in his class; however, if you really pay attention you'll learn something. He is always willing to help. I will recommend to those people who are willing to pay attention and not doze off in the class.
It's incredibly hard not to dose off... he is extremely boring and it's very difficult to learn anything in his class. He always contradicts himself and his tests are outright stupid! Just do yourself a favor and take someone else... there are a dozen better Stats teachers...
Best class ever, because I only went for a week. This guy is BORING. He plays favorites. I went to his office and he answered 2 of my questions and then just walked away ignoring me because "he was busy". I've cussed out teachers before but this guy isn't even worth it. Pure waste of time. Save yourself the trouble and take someone else.
Great teacher, dont judge him based on the other students that graded him, im taking him right now and the material he teaches is hard but it gets through, its more like prepare to learn, not get the material handed to you. sometimes funny but also be prepared to learn.
OMG! save urslf and never take his class. he is retarded (not including the thick ass accent) he writes in hyrogliphics and totally skips half the steps on his "new" material...then he totally anal about his tests and quizes. he has no mercy!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! He is by far the worst instructor ever. I have been at GCC for 2 years and he was the WORST! He puts you down for not knowing the asnwers and he calls people names in the class. He doesn't teach new material since "you can read it in the book". Half the time I couldn't understand him or his writing. SAVE your GPA!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. this man CAN NOT teach. you ask him to clarify something and his answer is "vatever". if you take this class you are on your own. it is up to u to learn the material and stay up all night trying to figure out the problems. he grades partially and takes points off for the stubidest things. youll regret taking this class
I hated his class. It was very boring. He has a thick accent , so you cant really understand him. He singles people out if they dont know how to do a problem. PLEASE! DONT TAKE HIM! You will regret it.
he is a good teacher and he cares about his students.....yeah sure maybe not alot but he still does. I think he is what a real teacher should be.....his tests aren't even that hard....if you do the homework and understand the hw and you'll do fine on the tests.
youll be fine if you take time to look at the book since his lectures and test are literally copied from the book
I usually pull all A in my classes but i got a F in his class. I worked really hard for it too. I dropped a class so i could concentrate on my math, and got a tutor as well. Needless to say i felt horrible. next semester i took the class over and realized that the majority of the class was made up of the same students from my previous class.
Difficult teacher to learn from, spends too much time on proving formulas. Refuses to answer some questions and gets affronted when nobody asks questions. Takes off too many points for small mistakes or errors. This is a sensitive nerve, so watch out. Does give extra credit, but you have to work for it. "A" is possible w/ lots of studying!!
Not easy to understand.
Hard teacher
Great teacher. Very fair. Explains very clear. Answers all the questions (use office hours). Grading system is clear and fair. I liked him very much. I took him twise in math 103 and 104, and will take him again. I recommend everybody to take him if you want to learn math.
really easy
I should have listened to the comments on this site before enrolling in his class, but i told myself that I'm good in math and it doesn't matter what teacher i take. Boy, was I WRONG! He just writes the same stuff that are in the book,WORD BY WORD! His tests are very difficult and tricky! Class average was an F and he does not curve. prepare to fai
He's fine. Do yo math yo
this prof... is the****! hes so cool! i thought he was going to be hard, but he was actually easy!!!! gives extra credit and reviews material allmost idendical to the chapter tests(s). hes big on attendance !!!!!! dont miss class or else!!
ok heres the thing, if your a math person then take him. hes a good teacher and expects the verry best from you!!! ill be planning to take him for stats or math100 soon. havent decided yet
The worst teacher ever, dont' waste your time and don't take him
this professor is literally a waste of time for many reasons. First, he has an accent that gets in the way of his teaching. He teaches directly from the book and restates whatever the book does...so what's the use! Instead of answering questions, he makes sarcastic comments about the stupidity of the question being asked...he is the worst teacher!
i have always gotten A's in all my classes..but i no that this dude will give me my first B or even a grade lower. Be ready to learn on your own. GCC might as well hire a robot to teach us...he is rude and sarcastic...he just walks away when you ask him a ? after class....HE SUCKS>>>>
Mr. D. is very nice and cool. His grading is so reasonable and straight out of the book questions. He is understanding and helpful only when he know's you CARE. Attend his class regularly and you'll get a good grade! Thanks Prof. D, you really prove there are good math teachers out there!!
This guy's an idiot. He wants his studenst to always ask q's but when they do he makes fun of them. Incredibly UNFAIR when it comes to everything.
This guy's an idiot. He wants his studenst to always ask q's but when they do he makes fun of them. Incredibly UNFAIR when it comes to everything.
Personaly he's a good guy and tries to explain things. But he is an unfair grader, he also throws in his curve balls on every test that you dont expect. Rarely gives Partial credit, so you better have the right answer because if you even have the wrong sign... its wrong and you dont get any credit... I'm taking someone else for my next classes.
Hi guys, please ignore my ratings,I don't know anything about this guy ,I had math 103 with Tom Voden,he is a fantastic guy,But I'll say something about those kind of professors that are giving exams problems straight from the textbook, those are destructive to your knowledge,so I think when it comes to math, student supposed to be more creative.
This is the worst teacher by far!!!!! PLease do yourself a favor and dont take him his tests are unbelievably hard and wen u ask him a question about a problem he will seriously put u down instead of answering it
Do not recommend
He gets irritated and moody when a student asks a question
Not at all helpful or accommodating. He expects you to read his mind and wants to answer questions that he has for you vs hearing yours. His smug arrogant dismissive attitude does not help either. NEVER take him
i LOVED him he is the best teacher i have ever had at GCC. He explains everything so well that i started loving math. Screw the haters. ROCK ON MR. D !!!!!
Mr. D. is by far the best teacher i have ever had. you cant just slack off though, you have to do your best and he will see that youre trying. he always answers questions and is there whenever you dont understand something. be prepared to fall in love with math if you take his class!!!!!!
Great prof. If u know math, it won't be a problem
I took his class for 2 weeks and couldn't attend because have some issues. Even if I have a chand to go, I couldn't pass his class. He has a talent that makes me fall asleep. too much mumbling
He has a talent that makes me fall asleep.
He does not seem to be prepared for his classes. He paces around the room--and once in a while he will dangle the tassel of the projector screen and look outside the door (perhaps he does this to let the students know he's in charge?). He will write "etc" instead of finishing the problem on the board. He's amusing, but not a great prof.
You might as well take an online course...everytime anyone would ask him a question he will laugh and say you should've learned that in high school...his class really killed my (no C's in college policy) his class was the first C I earned in college...wish I took someone else I'd earn an A im sure...i taught myself...he keeps you til the last sec.
If I knew math, I am sure he would be fine. But most of us that go the Math 100/102 route are just trying to get by the math requirements. We need somone much more interested to keep us motivated.
if u read the textbook and review his notes and do the hw that is assigned ull get a good grade in his class...
im having a hard time figuring out who da hell gave this foo his diploma. do urseld a favor and unless u already know ur sh0it, don take him
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOOOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!
this teacher is no help at all he assumes you already know all the materials and does not explain anything
This teacher is HORRIBLE! Trust me, the test are extremely hard and partial credit is rarely given. Also he makes students feel stupid when asking questions....do yourself a favor and DONT take him, because you will not get any higher than a C
Prepare to fail!!! His tests are very difficult, and he is not good with partial credit..not a nice man and lectures are useless.
Take his class. He can't teach so you will be have to be taught by urself, but his tests are easy if you are prepared. Just do homework problems and u will be fine.
HORRIBLE!!! Like others have said, He will make you feel stupid for asking questions but he will answer them & with an explanation that only serves to make you more confused. He does not brake down ALL steps & only covers the parts of a problem that he thinks are important. CONFUSING! I had to teach myself through youtube & various web sites. FUSTR
i had to drop this class because this professor is retarded -_- wow.there is nothing i can say that others have not said before. even if this is the last class u need to take to transfer, STAY AN EXTRA YEAR AND DON'T TAKE IT !!!!!!!
Lousy pr1ck got his son or daughter to give him 3 consecutive high ratings on 6/19/08 just to make his score on ratemyprof balance out. His account should be blacklisted and he should be barred from working in California.
The people who rated this teacher bad must be students who do not study at all and want to get easy A. You know that is not going to happen in math class. I guarantee this is the easiest math class you will ever take in GCC. Understanding HMWK = GUARANTEE A. Plus, go to every mathclub, and SI (also take amatyc) to get huge amount of extra credits.
To the person under me : I'm not a math major but I have a 3.6 gpa and this class was my first C. The teacher doesnt explain anything, he makes fun of you for asking questions, and the tests are so hard our class has 18 out of 55 people left and our class avg. is a 40%. Only about 10 out of the 18 of us left are passing.
TAKE SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU'RE TAKING MATH 103 OR HIGHER, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. He barely gives partial credit so if you miss 2-3 answers on a test you'll likely get a C or lower. We had near 45+ people at the start of the semester w/ more people on the waiting list, at the end of the semester there were about 17 students. Save your GPA don't take him.
at first youll hate him. the subject is hard enough.. his first test was the hardest and his partial credit is awful. if u mess up real small he only gives u 20 percent of the credit for question which is worth 20 points only 5 questions so if u mess up a little hard to get an a unless u are Armenian. HE GIVES THE ARMENIAN DISCOUNT IE more points!
he is horrible. you can't understand his teaching. gives LOTS OF HOMEWORK and at the end counts it for only 5 points. RIDICULOUS. do not take him. AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is very smart, but doesnt have the best teaching abilities. Must attend all classes and get on his good side. I would advise people to attend his CSI because he does give extra credit to people who attend. His grading style is decent. He does give a good amount of partial credit.
he teaches fast and dont explain much. his tests are ok but he is very hard on giving points. it's like when your are expecting B, on first test, make sure you'll get C.
sweet and scary. o.O
He is not a very patient teacher. Be prepared to learn the material on your own and his tests are not easy.
If you don't mind learning on your own with very little help then he is your man.
I took math 104 and i had to study myself.. His lectures are useless.. He jst explains the theorems not problems. I studied in my own from ch7 to ch12 and i got a B in the class.. also the tests are really hard.
horrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible!!!!!! never take a class with him! he's useless and you will never learn anything from his lecture! and he is very hard to understand.
Winter. Heavy accent. SO confusing. You have to learn on your own, really. Thank god I already took this in high school because I would've failed otherwise! Find someone else unless you can teach yourself.
He has a bad reputation but I thought he was good. His accent makes things confusing at first, but he'll help you if you approach him and his lectures are pretty clear. He's also very funny and a nice guy.
I would say that he is so educated person in math subject and fortunately he knows everything .The only thing bad thing about him is his manner and partial credit .That's all i could announce u about him.Besides , all these he is really smart and he is one of those smart Professor in GCC that i have ever seen .
ok...to be honest, this class was very hard for me because i felt like i had to learn by myself and his test were kinda hard...and the reason why i couldnt understand his lecs were cus of his accent :/ but if u are good at understanding armenian accent then take him cus i think he is a smart proffesor and he cares for his students
Professor u r the one of the best professors that i have ever seen in my life.I will always remember you as a kind person and educated Armenian Professor. We are proud of having you in our college .Ashot jan siroomem kez ..............
people who talks about his accent better not talk because u have accent too .Having english foe 3th language ,people can have accent.Learn to not judge people because of your failure and weakness. He is so understandable and Excellent.Personally, i like him and he is so caring person .I will you all the best Professor .I will always respect you .
Usually I do not leave comments, but now I feel like I need to. I am going to write a detailed review. First of all you learn nothing new in his class. He tells you exactly as in the book, no extra info, no solution tips and no shortcuts. If you read the book and learn on your own, you would achieve better results. If you listen to his lectures, he
You learn nothing new in his class. He tells you everything from the book, no extra info, no solution tips and no shortcuts. You need to learn on your own. He speaks very unclear. Tricks students by saying ?this section is not going to be in the test? and then, surprise!!!, you get that in your test. Grading techniques are unfair.
I would like to add: he is excellent teacher, he likes when students are smart, and I'm going to take his another class again!!
Horrible professor. Trust the low rating. Don?t take him. You are not going to understand what the hell his talking about.
-----------------------
Qualiy of education in Glendale Community College is going down, because of idiots like this professor. I am switching my college to PCC.
He is not as bad as everyone says! I took him for winter session and it was tedious, but not impossible. It's a college-level math course people...all you need to do is pay attention, study, and memorize all of the formulas! His partial credit on tests kind of suck, but you can totally fight for a few points. I went from a 76 to an 83 on one test.
He is a 4 years university level teacher. If you just want to pass Math and don't need high level Math then do not take with him. He forces you to really understand the subject and been able to apply your knowledge in a short period of time with relatively challenging questions. I learned a lot. You are awesome Dr. Djrbashian.
This Prof has an undeserved bad name. He is one of the only math profs here with a math Ph.D. He thoroughly knows math and clearly explains it to you. There is no problem with his accent or writing. His tests and quizzes are very easy and his homework assignments are about average length. If you just do the homework, you can easily get a high B.
DJRABASHIAN is the best. people are tripping. i bet most the people who give bad ratings are from low level math and just want to blame the teacher for there inability to understand math. he knows his stuff really good. hes not mean, hes easy, and hes cool; all contrary to popular belief haha its cool djrabashian dont lesson to these people!
Dr Djrbashian is a great person. He is the best Math professor at GCC. He should teach at UCLA not here. Awesome person full of passion for Math.
i agree w/ the previous comments. he's THE BEST Math professor and Awesome person. Cool guy. Have fun & take him, enjoy MATH
Awesome teacher
He is a good Professor and i respect him
he is one of the best teachers i don't care what everybody says.i respect him.he is very helpful i took him for my math 104 and 100 class and i got B in both because i was lazy.He is the only teacher that cares about homework and your questions. He comes to class starts with homework questions and he wants to make sure that you completely understand
I understand where people are going about how his class is. He grades harshly on tests, and he has an accent that makes it difficult to comprehend him. However, trust me there are much worst people out there in the math department. I have experienced it my self. Because of this I'm more appreciative about having him as a professor.
He is really great at teaching he reall y cares about his students and is very energetic when it comes to teaching accounting
He is one of the best teachers out there. He teaches all the important materials in the class and tests u from that. He is super helpful with office hours. Take a problem to him and he will show u how to solve it. Best teacher.
He is a very good teacher with a very good heart. He will answer all your questions. I got a C in this class but the problem was that i didnt do my homework. if u want an A in this class u need to do all the HW.The test are usually the even HW. The materials were a little abstract for me, but i would have got a D if i'v took it with another teacher
THE BEST TEACHER ;) u will hear that he cant teach and u wont learn anything in his class. The thing is his teaching style is different from others.he explains the method and what we r looking for, and then he tries to solve a hard problem and let students to participate. u would think he cant solve it, but he's actually letting u see how math works
the professor thinks he's gods gift to math and the teaching field as a whole. If he were, than why would he teaching at a junior college. DO NOT TAKE, I don't understand any of the people that gave good reviews, they must be relatives.
Thanks to his incoherence and the spectacularly awful textbook, my professor has become random, possibly-uncredentialed people on YouTube. If you must take his class, don't be a snob like me and wait until the last minute to use YouTube as a resource - start out learning from them right away and you'll be fine. Very nice person, but useless prof.
He's a good person. He's also a good teacher, and I am taking his class right now. He helps you whenever you ask. He is sarcastic as hell, be careful. haha. Good with math, just study hard for the tests...
He is just great.Try your best .He is there to help u.
He's rude, sarcastic & not helpful. He doesn't curve & prejudges students according to his standards which is ridiculous (ex. you don't deserve an A)! He let's a lot of cheating during the tests which is not fair for others. Although he knows the material, but a horrible teacher. If you're looking for a stress-free class, try other instructors.
HE IS SCARY
the only thing is that he can NOT teach .
Great teacher. Although his class is difficult he teaches every subject clearly and goes over any questions at the beginning of class. He is very helpful and if you work hard and study for his tests and quizzes you can get an A.
Not a good teacher. If you think that he is an Armenian and that will help you(armenians) to have a good relationship with him you are mistaken. He does not explain the material well, i read all chapters from book and with my own studying i got a B. Always acts like he is the best and is sarcastic with his students. Dont take him if u wanna learn.
This class is CHALLENGING!Make sure to do the even/chapter review problems from the book because most of the test ?'s come from there. Honestly though, even though the teacher was difficult,I respect him because he rewards hard work.I studies 24/7 and improved a lot by the end! Got a B, which I'm happy with considering the difficulty of the course!
He knows the subject well.I like him.He is so fair and lovely Armenian Professor. He is one of the best at GCC
Very intelligent man. It was a tough class, but if you attend the classes and do your homework and not fall behind, you should be fine and get an A :)
He is rude and does not know how to talk to the students. Also, he is useless and you will not learn anything from his class.
Not interested in helping students. He asked the class if we have any questions and gets irritated later with the questions because he expects students to know everyting about math. BTw he thinks he is funny. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER AT ALL!!!
Extremely difficult, horrible at explaining. He's so mean and rude. he calls out students in class for not attending. Maybe they're not attending because he's so bad at teaching
He's a genius & you can tell that he has a passion for math. He's very fair when it comes to his tests. He won't put the hardest questions. HW & participation are counted in your grade-awesome. Do your part, & TRUST ME you won't regret taking his class. People complain because they are lazy. Math is not easy & you need to work for your grade!
hard class. if your not focus and it the first time taking calcus U will struggle alot. however STAY FOCUS on the class Do home work evryday. U can pass. TIP: review the secton before entering lecture. He nicer than what he seems.
Well, grade-wise, its not easy to get an A in his class. He truly loves math though. He is not the most clear instructor, but if you are a good student and you have a complicated question, he can most probably solve it and explain it pretty quick. He has a high standard when it comes to math. His father and grandfather were both Mathematicians.
worst teacher don't take him. Hi is so rude and he doesn't have any respect if you ask a question.Bad, bad, bad
He was the worst teacher I have ever had. He is completely rude when you ask a question, he thinks he is funny and make jokes. The tests are so hard, and the time he gives is very limited, only a few students finish early. Don't take his class, ever even if you have to .
He gets super mad when you need something to be explained more than once. He's sarcastic and will make you look stupid. He's very condescending. He talks very slowly and will bore you to the afterlife. When he's working a problem, he will skip steps and not let you know. I had to teach myself the whole summer semester, and I got a B. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Without sugar coating anything, this professor is HARD! That said, if you study and pay attention to his lectures (which I enjoyed) you should do fine. He is sarcastic, he is dry; but I very much enjoyed this class.
His class is not too difficult to get a B in, but he does not explain anything clearly, he does everything off of proofs and rushes through examples and makes you feel dumb if you ask him a basic question. But if you really work hard and study outside of the book you should be fine.
I use to LOVE math, but this teacher made me hate it. He can not teach whatsoever. He laughs when someone asks a homework question. He makes his test questions tricky and doesn't give the extra credit he promises. DONT TAKE HIM.
If you just memorize steps and procedures you can get an A. But Internet resources and past tests are absolutely mandatory. He's not a good teacher. You won't remember anything after-the-fact, but if you have no choice, go through all the book problems and you'll get a decent grade. Best of luck to you.
He is a good teacher, but his tests are hard. If you are not good at math don't take his class.
Has a lot of passion for math. If you pay attention to his lectures, you will understand the material completely. His tests are very fair; no trick questions. He is a cool guy if you get to know him. If you like hockey, talk to him about it.
Worst teacher ever! I have always loved math and this prof. made me dread it. His lectures where long, boring and would just drone on. He didn't explain things well and was hard to understand. His tests were not like the examples given, there is no partial credit given. Also you have to memorize all the formulas. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. EVER!!!
I took this class loving math, but I was really challenged with his problems, and not in a good way. In our 104 class, the class started with 40+ students, and now there are barely seven. This is self explanatory. I ended up dropping because it was impossible to please this guy.
Honestly. Hes pretty horrible. Hes very condescending and he doesnt even help that much. I think I only understood about 2% of his lectures and had to go to SI and learn from youtube lectures most of the time. I would avoid him. I love math. But I could care less for his condescension and rudeness.
Stay away from this guy! He is very rude and will call you out if you ask a basic question and make you look stupid. Our MATH 104 class started out with more than 40 people and ended with 7-8. The problem with this guy is that he doesn't care about his students. I can tell that he's a smart guy and loves math, but he's just not a very good teacher
Don't take his class cause he can't even talk English fluently. It takes half an hour for him to describe some simple theories. Worst teacher that I've ever seen. Hopefully I dropped his class at first week of semester.
Absolutely horrible...
He is the worst professor I have ever seen it before . Although I did the same answers or wrote down all the steps. He didn't give me any points. Don't take him ,If u take him , u will be regret the rest of your life
He's a tough grader and can be very condescending at times. But he knows his math. He will answer questions but will get a bit rude if you ask something that should be known from a previous math course. If you pass his class then you can be confident you actually learned the material in the semester and not just passed by luck.
Worst professor at math department. He is so mean and dont answer your question.
Terrible instructor, doesn't teach and refuses to go over homework questions if SI is available. Office hour questions are reluctantly answered and given vague responses sort of like "look at it like__(add simile )_" The tests are fairly easy with no surprises if you do and understand the homework. He will nail you if you make a mistake though.
Took him twice, the 2nd time I was forced because he was my only option. & I thought I was doing a mistake but I didn't! If you take good notes, listen in class (although I know its hard to understand him at times), ask question (will answer you),& study then you will most definitely pass his exams! He gives you a heads up on what to expect on test
Know what you're getting into. Don't expect to understand him in the class. Take him if you have lots of free time to read the whole book yourself. He told us all the tests will be take home, but we did 3 take home tests and he suddenly said the next ones are gonna be in class, so don't believe what he says
He is clearly very smart. My biggest problem is that I almost never knew what I was supposed to do to prepare for a test. Thank God he gave take home tests so that I could spend hours upon hours getting the correct answers to the tests. It isn't that he doesn't care it's more that he's really really lazy.
Can not even speak English clearly so the language barrier is harder than the class itself. And to make it even worse he doesn't enunciate one bit. Not helpful in anyway and is not clear with the example problems and likes to skip steps. Might as well teach yourself. Tests are your whole grade. Little to no partial credit on test problems
Essentially a self-teach class. He gives little to no partial credit on tests, and leaves condescending comments if you get a problem wrong. Students stop showing up to class and he starts taking attendance and dropping the ones who would rather spend that time actually learning because his lectures are a joke. Plus, his personality is infuriating.
He's not a good professor by any means, but as far as Math 107 goes, it's been incredibly easy. He gives very short tests and all the problems have been from the even-numbered homework problems in the textbook. If you do those, you've got an easy A. Not sure how much of this applies to his other classes, but 107 was a piece of cake this semester.
He is a nice guy, but in general he doesn't talk very nice with students. His lectures are terrible and very confusing to understand. When a student asks a question, he doesn't help with the answer and always puts you on spot in front of others. He jumps one section to another.. I would not recommend him at all.
I truly wish I came here to read these comments before I enrolled. Please trust these reviews as he only got a 2 out of 5. He doesn't speak clearly and is very confusing at times. If he is your last bet then you should try to pay attention every minute of the way.
Makes every student feel bad about the test scores, also sometimes raises his voice and even screams to us.
Yes, he's not the greatest professor, but he makes it clear what you'll be tested on. If you're hard working and willing to watch youtube videos, you will be fine. He gave our class multiple extra credit options and also gave us take home tests when he saw how bad our class average was. HW is worth 10% which helps. His tough humor will grow on u
How is this guy still teaching when has never taught a thing. Ashot should not be a teacher. Gcc needs to find better math professors
great person.. ok teacher if you put in work and do the homework you will be successful.. you can ask him questions but sometimes he doesent want to answer them if he feels the question is too stupid. enjoyed being in his winter class would take him again just to laugh with him some more..
The best math professor! Great person!
I think he's a solid teacher. He knows the material inside out and can significantly dumb things down. However, that doesn't mean that you can just coast through this class. With any other course showing up to lectures and not taking initiative to study isn't going to work. I took him in winter and I would gladly take him again.
he was worse teacher in my life. he wasnot explain clear subject in class. he always thinks in his mind and reviews staff for his knowledge like he has exam tomorrow and prepare for it. his exam was really really hard. it is not in homework. i did 3 times all his homework but nothing similar to tests. don't recommend never and ever.
I started in the class with a total of 35 students, after the first test he warned us to drop if we weren't getting the material at the pace he was teaching and half way through the semester only 17 students remain. He knows his stuff but make sure you do too to pass his class, do the homework and study for the tests and you will surely pass.
Hes very likeable, so youll enjoy coming to class. However, if you have a hard time in math, be sure to get a tutor immediately. Dont wait. He knows his stuff, but if you need everything broken down, you will need outside help. Show up, do all of your homework and have a good attitude. Dont be dumb or annoying. And he respond quickly to email
Do the homework, read the book, attend lecture, and you will get an A. Grading is very straight-forward and lenient on tests and also gives 10% of your grade for homework, plus lots of extra credit. If you don't understand the material go to office hours. Only thing, don't fall behind and you will do fine. Overall, really funny and enjoyable
He is the worst professor I've taken, he doesn't like when you ask questions if you don't understand something. I took precalculus with him and he makes the class feel so dumb, he yells and gets mad/frustrated if you don't understand a step. he isn't clear with his answers. for returning math students I do not recommend taking him.
I guess he needs to take a couple of ESL classes first, the worst teacher ever!
Doesn't explain homework problems in detail when you ask him and spends a lot of time not doing anything when the class begins. And also really stingy with partial credit on test problems. If you care about your grade and want to feel like you've learned something at the end of the semester, do NOT take his class.
He has an accent but thats not the main issue. He doesnt simplify challenging concepts. He assigns LOTS of homework. His writing on the board is unclear and hard to decipher. He does a lot of mental math so if you cant figure it out, beware: he wont slow down and explain what he did. Only recommend if youre already gr8 @ math
Wastes a lot of class time taking breaks or joking around. His explanations rarely help. He gives points for homework, which is nice, but there is too much homework. Not enough time to complete tests. He is usually in a bad mood. If you are the kind that struggles with math but succeeds by hard work and practice instead of talent, beware.
Nice personality, you always know what to expect on his tests. The tests are fair. Very lenient on tests. He gives extra credit opportunities and also 10% for homework.
I have a lot of respect for this professor! If you know math and you want to improve yourself in different ways and to challenge yourself then this is the best professor for you. On the other hand, if math is not your strongest subject and you just care about passing without actually knowing anything but still get an A then this is a wrong choice!
GREAT
Ashot Djrbashian is a pretty good professor, who gives good lectures and whose tests, etc. aren't too difficult. I took him in Winter of 2019 and overall I learned quite a bit from his class, which was Math 110A. Just make sure you aren't just taking the class to get it over with and that you are actually willing to learn the material.
Good lecturer. Not enough time for test. Do homework (odd) plus evens. Read textbook. Take good notes. Hard work. Will curve on some tests to help out the most number of students. Challenging. But U will learn a lot. He really knows his stuff. Sense of humor is good. PhD. Above other lecturers with just Masters degree. Gives good pointers. A+++++
Heavy accent, hard to understand what he's saying at times. He can be very rude and condescending towards students, and very easily irritated. He makes you feel stupid for asking questions..
LITERALLY THE WORST PROFESSOR. has an accent, on top of that, mumbles through his lectures. CONDESCENDING towards students, when you ask a question, his responses are very rude, makes you feel dumb for asking. DOES NOT allow use of Statcrunch unlike every other stat professors. DOES NOT provide formulas for tests but gives generous partial points.
one of the best professors at GCC.
He is the worst teacher. he wastes lots of time taking breaks and his joking. His lectures are no more explanation, so you will hard to understand what he's talking about. when you ask a question in his office time, he will answer are very rude and impolite. I guess he doesn't like some guy to disturb him out of class time.
I went in scared, but it was a very straightforward experience. He didn't drop a test when we went online, but gave a lot of extra credit to make up for it. Tells you what to expect on his tests question-by-question and tests have no surprises. Gave solid partial credit if you're close. Super funny and also 10% for HW/attendance.
He is the worst teacher. he wastes lots of time. Really hard to understand what he's talking about. Don't take it. you will regret big time.
If you have ANY other choice, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. Tbh, he knows math, but he doesnt know how to teach. Lectures (in-class and online) were both horribly heavy, boarding and confusing Grading was so unreasonable Forget about using canves and get ready for a lot of HW In any situation you take this class, you will regret it PERIOD.
-Technologically inept -Teaches everything by hand, so you waste time with math errors and don't learn actual concepts -General disdain for students and answering questions -Impossible amount of hw -Classist and off-hand comments Tips to pass his class? Learn to use a graphing calculator and get a tutor now to answer questions and explain things.
ill probably still get an A, but man this guy sucks at teaching. His accent isnt too bad, but its literally so hard to comprehend what hes talking about. Its honestly easier to learn through the textbook. I dont even ask him a question, because Ill just be more confused. Tip, mute the zoom call and just learn it yourself and do the hw. Seriously
I agree with lots of evaluations here saying he is not good at teaching, but honestly his class wasnt too bad. His tests are relatively easy compared to homework problems and very straightforward. He is very generous when grading tests. Just do your homework youll get an A
5 exams + 1 final, will not drop any. MANY HW, each only worth 5 points! But if you can get 95% on each exam then you don't have to do it tbh since the HW worth 5% of your grade. He does have partial credit on the exam, and questions are similar to HW. Since he doesn't use canvas you have to turn in everything via email which is kinda annoying.
He gives a lot of partial points on exams unless you completely skip the question. He does come off a bit harsh but is very generous with extra credit. He told us he would not drop our lowest test score but he decided to help us out by doing so. I read all the comments before, but I think you should experien it yourself and not what others say.
Seems like he hates teaching, and students. Asking him questions is seen as a bad thing. Needs a career change; If you're looking for a good math professor, find someone else.
My class was an independent studies class for abstract algebra. This guy doesn't deserve the 2.4 he has here. He's been doing these independent study classes for years despite not getting paid for it. He cares about the students that are trying to learn and will help you if you reach out. Note: I put 1 for difficulty because MATH49 has little work.
He doesnt seem very enthusiastic or passionate during his lectures and the class cannot stay engaged as a result. Its a dreary experience lacking a fluid pace and structure. He clearly has a hard time adapting to online learning which I dont blame him. Prepare to dedicate most of your time to this class if you want to pass
He is not good at teaching and is very sarcastic. Lots of homework, but it is doable if you manage time wisely. His exam isn't too bad, if you put effort and time on your homework it is definitely possible to get good grade and the tests are pretty straight forward
I literally made an account for rate my professor just to warn people to not take this professor. Absolutely the worst professor I have had. If you ask a question he gives attitude. I had to resort to teaching myself every lesson from the textbook. Terrible teacher, terrible attitude.
Probably the most difficult class I've taken, but this was partlybecause it was a short winter semester. So much homework, but after that much practice, I felt pretty prepared for the tests. His manner can be a bit harsh sometimes, but he's really generous with partial points on tests. He also graded things immediately. Usually same day.
Professor Ashot Djrbashian is very knowledgeable. He's really an amazing professor. His lectures cover all the material. Take his classes if you want to have knowledge.
Please do yourself favor and not take his class. He can hardly speak English; believe me each of us would have taught better than him. He is so rude, an doesn't take you all hard work into account. There many teacher that you'd better take them than this professor, doesn't explain the class well: just HORRIBLE. Lack of English skills and math skill
This dude gives like 100 problem a week for summer session. Exams take at least 2 hours he gives 1 hour 30mins just horrible.
This guy absolutely does not care if you pass or not! He blamed the students for taking a hard class in summer and should've known the consequences when asked why he only gave 1hour15 min on a 1:45-2 hour test. You barely understand what he's saying half the time and he gives 15-20 hours of homework for each week of class.
If this website allows me to give a 0, I would. Heavy lecture with unclear instructions, terrible attitude when questions are asked, loads of homework only for 5% of the class, not enough time for the weekly test.. about ten out of 25 people dropped and to be honest if you have him right now, drop it and get into a waitlist if you can. It's bad.
His English is good enough. I found that the tests really are key so take your time and don't rush. I have mixed feelings about the whole experience.
Isn't very passionate about what he is doing, very difficult to comprehend, and lectures are not very comprehensive. This is a difficult class itself and it is not worth making it any harder.
He's the worst professor ever, actually he doesn't deserve the words" professor", he doesn't know how to teach he's better not teach at all! He's SUCKS!
If you want to waste your time, you can take his class. He explains badly, during the class he loses(plays) time without explaining the topic.
There are some homework problems that are required to submit on each test day. I recommend solving a bit more problems than what he assigned for homework to get used to the concepts. Professor Djrbashian's lectures were clear especially when he solved some textbook problems with explanation. He is a generous grader with partial credits.
Worst online class teacher that I have ever met. In his remote class, he doesn't use Zoom, he uses some unbrand remote software. Moreover, his camera is substandard that always can not clearly display what he writes. he like saying some jokes he thought were funny, but it is not fun. NO POWERPOINT, WORST DEVICE, WORST EXPRESSION, GARBAGE TEACHER.
the absolute worst professor at Gcc. makes it impossible for the highest score of a test to be a C. for some reason he doesn't know how to lecture and give specific reasoning for a topic. I wish I never took him
The professor doesn't like to explain things. He expects you to know everything. The class is also homework heavy, he assigns atleast 30-40 questions from each section of each chapter. You'll do about 150 questions that are due every week.
I strongly advise against taking classes with him as he is the worst math teacher I have ever encountered. He seems to be unwilling to explain the topics thoroughly and does not show any concern about whether his students comprehend the lessons or not. Furthermore, his tests are riddled with tasks that he didn't even bother to explain.
The worst professor I've had in GCC. He's very hard to understand during lectures and homework is graded with about 60-70 questions per section. On top of this he's very strict with his grading and ridicules you if you stop by his office hours to go over the test with him. If he's your only option for calc and you decide to take him, good luck.
Ashot is a good example of just because you're good at something, doesn't mean you can teach it. Lectures are always nonsensible and incoherent. On exams if you don't solve the problem the way he wants you to, it's an instant 0. Its so obvious he's just here for his paycheck and doesn't care about his students. How he's still a professor is a joke.
If you are really interested in math and want to learn it, he is the best professor in GCC. He is very knowledgeable about his subject and is always ready to discuss different math topics even not directly connected with your class.
Tough class, but the professor's lectures can be hit-or-miss. Stay on top of the workload, utilize unstuckstudy AI and other study tools, and you may just pull through. Not the most engaging professor, but manageable if you put in the effort.
spends half his time on random stories (some really funny ngl) or roasting students (some funny some racist) and the other half mumbling through the book. Answers some questions well, just ignores some and moves on, Gets upset if u learn on your own instead of going to lecture. Should have taken this at pcc or lavc
He is by far the most knowledgeable math professor at GCC. His exams can be challenging, but he usually drops a problem, which is helpful. Additionally, he provides clear guidance on what to expect on exams.
Let me preface this by saying I took 2 years of calculus in high school so Math 103E should've been a breeze to me. It was NOT, he gives barley any time on the tests, brags that students drops his class (went from 40 to 10 students), tests averages are always F's. He misses a lot of material for lecture. He is smart but just don't take him.
Should've taken this class at PCC or LAVC. He mutters thru the lecture, answers half of our questions, then gives a test that is most of the time harder than material in the book. Sometimes he tells us certain topics are gonna be the test, then tests us on the topics he said he is NOT gonna put on it. Does not give enough time for tests.
I drove to this class without a seatbelt, hoping I wouldn't make it to class. This professor mumbles through every lecture, then tests heavily based on what he was mumbling about. Don't even think about asking a question because he will hold some kind of grudge against you for it. Would defiantly recommend if you hate yourself though
Most students nowadays won't appreciate this type of professor because they need shortcuts to succeed in life. He cares about the knowledge you gain not the grade you get in the end. Instead of wanting to learn the material and settle with the grade they deserve. They focus on the grade. His tests aren't hard. His homework isn't too much.
An inbred mime could teach this class better than Ashot. Also he pads this page with his own reviews otherwise his rating would be below 1. If you need proof read how hard he glazes himself in the post below.
This instructor demonstrates a condescending attitude towards his class. He appears to place a great deal of importance on his own knowledge while showing little patience or respect for those who are still learning. Rather than encouraging questions or foster a supportive learning environment, he often dismisses and belittles his students.
As a Armenian, this man makes me wish Turkey finished what it started.
