Terrible...there are much better economics profs!
difficult tests, unfair grading policy
I thought he was always happy to stay after class to discuss anything with students. And he had a grading curve (85% was an A and so on).
interesting but kinda dry. remember to say good morning everyday, no matter how you feel!
sucks

afifi is the worst prof i have ever had. i was lost the entire semester and i were to ask a question i still didn't understand. his test were very hard and unfair.
If you want to do good in his class, don't screw around. You have to pay attention. He is a good professor if you take class seriously.
do not take this course the teacher is terrible you and the professor can stay after class all year but if you do not understand the damn point of his statements what is the point of the class! he will jump around on you i caution do not take this teacher
HE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!!...he might know everything about economics, but he sure cant teach it and have others understand it!...DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR ECONOMICS AT ALL!!!...unless you want to fail!!...some people can teach, but AFIFI CANT!
This class is hard be ready to work, tests very difficult and they are essay!! however, he is willing to work with you if you are willing to work!
teacher is horrible what the hell is he talking about. he needs to work in an office doing econ for someone behind many closed doors. this guy needs to stay away from the classroom. good afternoon my ass. we aren't tired from lunch, yes you do suck
Very Knowledgeable man with no teaching skills.
he doesn't want to be here -- should quit.
HORRIBLE!! He makes absolutely no sense and talks the entire time in a monotone voice that'll put you right to sleep. But if you fall asleep, watch out because he'll embarass you and kick you out. I dropped as soon as I could.
Don't take this class in the morning...or at all for that matter

This man does not no the meaning of T/F or multiple choice. I was shocked, dismayed, and bewildered in this class. All we could do is watch him whiz across the board writing nonsense. If you value your health and sanity choose another teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! THIS ISNT A JOKE. Material made much harder than it actually is class is rediculous.
Assrash is a horrible teacher, do not take his class.
He is does not eplain things very clearly and makes things seem harder than they really are. The text explains things better than him.
sucked big time
afifi is evil. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. he talks and talks but nothing makes sence an-da his test are 4 essays with 5 parts to them. i didn't learn anything in the class.
Easy class made hard by bad teacher
Afifi is the worst teacher at Ferris State University......He does not know what he is talking about......His teaching style is horrible and his test are the worst he tells you to study for one thing and the test is something different........

This professor is a joke! Very difficult, weird grading scale. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
If you put in the effort, you can learn in this class.
Completely worthless. If i learned anything, it was only an accident. He barely speaks english, doesnt know what he is talking about, and some how wraps up class saying something like "...and this is how you get GDP."
This guy was worthless. If you can, take someone else.
teacher is hard as hell
decent teacher. makes you work, slackers beware.
likes to talk about nothing for an entire class period, doesn't look at homework, and grades pretty much on 3 essay tests and thats it (maybe 2 or 3 pop quizes)
very hard to understand and very boring, i give him a negative rating if it were possible.
Affi is a horrible teacher!! It takes him the entire class period to explain one thing and nothing he says makes any sense...do not take him, unless you want to fail!!
He isn't the most interesting teacher to listen to. However his grading curve saves you in the class!
A difficult class, but knows what he's talking about.
He is very hard to understand sometimes. If you answer a question and he does not like it, he will make you fell like you are an idiot. Do not listen awhole lot to what he sys, just take notes and read the book and you will do fine.
I lose interest in this class everytime he starts talking. Its so hard for me anyway, to comprehend what he is saying, and what the subject matter is.
He was really hard to understand and his tests absolutly sucked.
You can't understand him, he makes no sense!
I don't know if the concept was tough or if he just wasn't a good prof. Either way, the class was difficult. He is somewhat hard to follow and his tests are rough. He is willing, however, to help out and explain concepts until you understand.
I think I had him in 1993 or 4. It was either for Micro Econ. or for a Class called Money and Banking. He was hard to understand then too. I can't believe in a decade he can't improve his enunciation. Too bad.
Long lectures that have nothing to do with what he actually wants you to know, problem is you dont even know what that is. worst teacher i ever had. cant understand him and he never understands you.
He's a good guy. I learned a lot from his class. The subject isn't too exciting, but you'll pass if you try at all.

He goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with the subject, uses analigies that have to be explained for 10 minutes each. I generally slept through half of each class. Fortunatly, if you show up, you should pass. Tests are Multiple choice, does not correct HW (hand just about anything in)
Hard to understand. Hard to stay awake in class. Doesn't make it easy to learn or make the subject interesting.
save yourself the frustration. don't take him. he grades on a curve so an 85 is still an A, and 30 is still passing. the thing is that there are only like 2 people in the class that will get above a B. he has 3 test with 4 esays that have about 5 parts to them.
Tough material, but he is a caring guy. He never puts too much pressure on students. Laid back but no easy A.

God...I still have nightmares about this dumba$$.
This man could quite possibly be insane! he seems like a nice man but he has no idea how to teach...all he talks about are hamburgers, or cider and dontus....i have no idea what econ is even supposed to be about....his messed up grading scale is the only plus
HORRIBLE TEACHER, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
if you can understand him, you'll get an A gaurenteed, and you get extra credit if you make smart ass coments a good teacher if you can get him
Brilliant guy, but not for those who want to slack off. Hard tests and confusing grading scale, but I got a lot out of this class.
He always had us do the homework before we learned the lesson. I know I cant fully understand the homework until I've been tauhgt the chapter!
He is sometimes tough to understand. Only have 3 tests for the semester and they aren't too hard. Class can be really boring and thing can be confusing. Not the best teacher but not the worst.
ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzZZZzzzzZZZzzZz!!! thats all your gonna do. The most boringest teachers @ FSU. Easy test lots of homewerk. Lectures the entire time and then sum. Good Luck!!
I cant believe this guy is still around. I took the class somewhere around 1992. Sounds like he hasnt changed, but who wouldnt be like that after teaching Econ forever.
the most BORING class ever you will fall asleep!!
This guy is really terrible, he is hard to understand because he has some kind of werid accent. If you take notes, use the cd in the book, and read the chapters you will pass. Just don't fall asleep in his class he actully slapped me in the head during class one day and told me to go home. I looked at him like he was crazy and didn't leave.
It does get Better!
HORRIBLE!
worst professor i have ever had. afifi is boring and likes to talk about cookies and ice cream rather than economics. you WILL fall asleep in class. only good thing: 85+ is an A.
Hes a cool guy, i had him for both micro and macro econ and i would take him again, he has a awesome grading scale, 50% is a C, 70% is a B, and 85% is an A. It doesnt get any better. He even gives you a review sheet befor each exam and most of the questions come from the review sheet. His final isnt comprehensive either, it is hard to not do good.
You definitely don't want to take this class early in the morning, because it will be hard to stay awake. Ash is willing to help you if you see him outside of class. His lectures are kind of confusing as well. As long as you do homework you should do fine in the class.
OKay class, boring so wouldn't take early in the mornings. Attend class and try to listen and read the chapter should be alright.
Assrash is a terrible teacher that mumbles all the time and is very boring. Tests are hard, Grading scale is easy though.
Ash's class is not as exciting as your first kiss, that's for sure, so no mornings. He doesn't deserve such a bad rate. He's a genuinely nice guy who will help you if you ask and always wants to hear his students' opinion. The class is comprised of basically three tests. Do his exam review and it's also helpful to do they studyguide mul choice.
He's a great guy, but he's BORING, and his notes are scattered and unorganized. The material on his tests is rarely what he covers in class.
He is boring and makes no sense out of anything!
I found this professor has sparked my interest in Economics. He is a well spoken man that welcomes questions on his subject. He teaches real world economics. Challenge his subjet, he shines with knowledge. He is a family man and a real person whom is approachable. If you intend to sleep take a different class; else, participate in class.
Class is easy if you pay attention, but professor drones on and on, and is quite difficult to understand at times because of accent. However, he is very helpful if you take the time out of class, and loves a good debate. If you read the chapters a few hours before each test, you should get about a C, pay attention to the lectures and get a B
DO NOT TAKE AFIFI. He does not follow the book, it is hard to understand what he means.. His lectures never seem to make any sort of sense. the only plus to this class in the curve
Get ready to teach yourself!
Afifi is a good teacher. He really deserves a better rating. He has an amazing grading scale (50%) is a C-. He is a nice guy and if you go to his office he is more than willing to help. Class sucks and is boring but suck it up, because this is a tough subject but Afifi will get you through it.
Has a different type of teaching...more just discussing. But if you pay attention, you will know the material well. If you daydream, you'll be lost.
Kind of hard to listen to him, his accent drives me insane. It's kind of hard to take notes because you don't really know what he's talking about half the time, but usually if you do the assignments (usually one paper due every week or two) and read the book before exams you should be set. His grading scale makes it impossible to fail the class.
One of the most intelligent, challenging professors I've taken, but he belongs at an Ivy more than a small public school in northern Michigan. Most kids in class with me couldn't follow his discussions. If you consider yourself in the upper tier of intellect at Ferris, take Afifi.
Very knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about. Talks kinda monotone so don't take this class at 8am unless you are a morning person. Hard to follow sometimes. His curve is a savior. Not much homework.
Good teacher, most material comes from the notes he writes on the board, and that is pretty much whats in the book. Awesome grading scale, and exams weren't to hard.
Really dry material, but he's kinda cute dancing around up at the front. Easy homework points, you get full credit as long as you turn it in. You get marked down if you skip class but those are easy points as long as you go! Tests are pretty straightforward from the examples he gives in class but can be a little tricky.
He is a good teacher. easy class if you show up.
I had a very difficult time understanding him through his thick accent. He did not seem like he wanted to be there and gave a monotone lecture through the entire period, day after day.
Professor Afifi is a nice man, he is understanding if you miss an assignment. The homework is long, there was one quiz and the exams were more difficult that the lecture material. Stick to the book and you'll do fine. There is an attendance policy so if you plan on skipping take another professor!
Afifi is a nice guy but is hard to learn from. Teach yourself from the material out of the book or else you won't pass the exams.
You can not understand what he is lecturing about, and if u ask a question he will explain for 20mins and u still wont get it. Plus, by far the second most boring professor I have ever had.
He is a worthless Prof. that you can never understand. He "teaches" in stories that make no sense and his test are impossible. The material on them is nothing that he talks about in class so you will have to read the entire textbook to get any point. His homework is way to long over the same jargon that he preaches for an hour about.
Really good prof. He cares that you learn something. He only has three tests and homework questions. If you do all the question on the homework you get all the points and he'll go over the answers later.
Nice guy, but really hard to understand- along with monotone lectures which sound like tangents about nothing. The ridiculous grading curve makes it able to pass his class. Make sure you read the book for the tests otherwise you're SOL
His class is hard to stay awake in. Homework is extensive. Tests are hard but there is a huge curve that makes it easier.
class is boring, i fell asleep most days, didnt read a page in the book or do homework. i got a c+. his grading curve makes it almost impossible to fail. he seemed like a nice guy and would help if you needed it.
Most chill teacher alive. You can text all day, play games, listen to your iPod. he doesn't care. But the class is very boring. A 85 is a A. His test are multiple choice and only 2 chapters per test. If you study 3 hours before the exam you're okay.
his vocabulary consists of the following words: Ahh, Uhh, Umm, hmm, beef and potatoes.
Read the book or his lectures don't make much sense. Maybe because he's super boring to listen to, maybe because he isn't that clear. Afifi seems like a nice guy nontheless. This is an annoying and necessary evil when it comes to gen eds.
BORING!! You can't understand what he is saying and he talks really slow. Other than that, this class is pretty easy and you will pass because of the grading curve. If you get a C on an exam it equals a B.
Worst class I have ever taken in my life. It is nearly impossible to pay attention because all he does is lecture in a monotone voice. He goes on tangents about stuff that won't appear on the tests and doesn't spend nearly as much time on the difficult things. NEVER AGAIN.
Very boring class. I couldnt understand what he was saying half the time. However, he is very smart and knows a lot about economics..but will tend to go on about a subject for 40 minutes and talks in circles the whole time
I fell asleep almost every single class, but then again I had zero interest in Economics. Class is very flat and he is very monotone. Ugh.
Not a really interesting class-- professor loved to have abstract conversations about actual Economics which was pretty cool. The curve is wonderful, and he grades homework based on completion. I don't regret taking him for these reasons. Nice guy overall
Great Professor. Very Intelligent, would incorporate real life econ into class, and grades were on a huge curve (85 was an A)Only downside is that his voice is very soothing, and I almost fell asleep sometimes. Would definitely take again though.
Very difficult to understand. He talks in circles a lot and doesn't lecture on anything in the book. Plan on teaching yourself everything and studying all the time. There is a big curve(85% is an A) but his tests are challenging.
Did not learn a thing but got an A by actively going in during office hours and asking questions during class. Curve in the class really helps as you have no idea what to expect for exams and leave having no idea what just happened. Ask questions and put in the effort for homework and you should be fine, unless you actually want to learn something.
Prep for A+, real life advice that was much appreciated and unfortunately constrained by the schools mandatory outline for the class which is boring but if you have experience with computers it will be easy, if you have none you will have to work very hard.
