Arguably the best professor at Laurier. played music during class but takes attendance sometimes. Knows a lot about concepts of indian philosophy. Had many discussions with class. cool guy. it was relaxed course. gave lots of extensions. told some interesting stories. Do not buy the sourcebook in asian philosophy. it sucks.
Terrific professor. Hates Tatsuo with a passion. Granted though, Tatsuo's pretty awful.
The class had a "Everyone knew everyone" kind of feel so the disscussions were interesting and fun. He is a awesome prof with a great sense of humour. At the end of the year and take the class out for drinks while he plays the gutair.
Really strict about coming to class and paying attention. This is probably due to the sheer size of the lecture though. Obviously loves his material, and answers a lot of questions in class despite the size. Explains concepts well.
He is very strict about class attendance and being late. He also has issues with laptops, and you must sit in the first four/five rows of the lecture hall. He is very clear about the course content, which makes concepts easier to grasp. His lectures emphasize and clarify the text, so it is good to focus on both.
A great prof who is very knowledgeable about philosophy.
Dr. Peetush is a hard case. He is very clear in concepts, especially for those with no philosophy background. He also gives great examples and gets the class very involved. However, he is far too strict. He takes things which aren't a big deal (like walking into class two minutes late) and makes them into a huge deal. Not for everyone.
This prof really cares, he spent 2 hrs going over how to apply to law school with me, and then even helped me to write a letter of intent. He's a encouraging, helpful and very kind man.
He's really cute. And he does a great job of teaching the concepts/testing on things that were taught. He's also quite funny and engaging. He might have a little bit of a philosophy inferiority complex. He is always defending/advocating for philosophy as a major, and insulting other departments. He may have experienced some teasing in the past.
Good guy
Great professor! Extremely helpful with the topics. Make sure to go to his classes! This is where you learn the most. He is also very nice and extremely helpful if you visit him during office hours, which I strongly recommend. Overall a very nice guy, tries to keep the class interested, knowledgeable and helpful. I had Friday classes and still went
Amazing professor; he is engaging, enthusiastic, entertaining, and brilliant. Do not regret taking his class for a second.
I look for him when picking my courses. Great guy, loves what he is teaching, sincerely wants you to secceed. Will let you write on whatever you want
Hands down the best prof I have ever had, I'm taking courses that I don't need just to get to learn more from him.
Never thought that I would be mildy depressed after a course ended. I can't believe its actually over. PP220 was the best course I had taken throughout my university education. Ashwani is a great professor. Definitely going to take some of his other courses in the near future.
N-ever thought that I would be mildy depressed after a course ended. I can't believe its actually over. PP220 was the best course I had taken throughout my university education. Ashwani is a great professor. Definitely going to take some of his other courses in the near future.
Ashwani is a great professor. Mildly depressed that the class is over. Only class that I regret missing a lecture for.
This prof was amazing, really inspired me, I loved how much I learned. He goes on a lot of tangents but is really passionate. No slides or anything, so attendance is mandatory, but it's a really great time.
One of the best I've had in four years at Laurier. Really loves what he teaches and those he teaches. After our final test he gave everyone individual thanks and regards. Very serious about his classes, so please leave your phone and laptop off. Paying attention will pay off b/c (even making a tangent) Peetush will make you think. Thanks Professor.
A lot of students do not like him or his teaching style. I did. He is very passionate and gets excited about the concepts he is explaining. If he catches you talking or texting he will stop the lecture and make an effort to publicly embarrass you. He's a rude awakening to university for students who received special treatment in high school.
Very kind man. His lectures are very confusing and his final exam was completely terrible, it dropped my mark from an 85 to 80 BUT he was willing to help when I told him my dilemma. I rarely went to class because most of the material was discussed in the seminar. He was funny in his lectures and tried to keep the class engaged. Overall a nice man
Dr. Peetush is passionate about teaching, and really cares about his students. He explains concepts clearly, and is a fair marker. Covers a lot of material that's not in the readings. Overall, a great prof.
Entertaining and engaging in class. I found material dry however he made class better. I only had to write two papers and received A's on both. It is not hard to do well if you show up for class, do the readings and pay attention in class which is what you pay to be there for anyway. :)
Good class.
I believed him to be very inspiring and a fair teacher. Truly a person who actually cared for student success and I was able to maximize my abilities because of it.
Don't expect to get an A easily. I am a third year Psych student that took this course for an elective, and at first I took it because I thought it would be easy. Wasn't easy at all. Bell curved our final by 17% and I still barely passed.
Very fair and has good insight. I really liked the brief lecture on feminism. He is very passionate which makes it easier to pay attention to. Philosophy isn't really my thing but I still think Dr. Peetush did a good job with the material. I found that as long as I went to class, and tutorials and paid attention, it was not difficult to do well.
I really enjoyed his lectures he would always makes sure that everone clearly understood the content. He would speak in a way that was engaging and interesting. He gave many chances to get a good grade if you applied yourself. Finally he always put his own opinions and passions into the material making it an insightful class to attend. I loved it!!
I loved his class, his way of teaching really keeps you interested. Make sure you go to his office hours as he is really helpful.
Very clear explanations and detailed rubrics given for each paper making it very clear what he is looking for. He is very helpful to go see during his office hours, which he always extends when papers are due or during exam time. You can tell that he really wants to see all his students succeed and offers lots of extra opportunities to raise marks.
Dr. Ashwani Peetush is the best prof. I have ever known in my life. He helps you way more than a class lecture. Non biased, non judgemental and very knowledgeable person. Last but not least a gem of a person. I recommend, taking his courses .
Peetush is hands down the best prof i"ve had in university. I took this class in my 4th year and it dramatically improved my performance in every other course this semester. He's an engaging lecturer and sets out challenges for students to rise to. He is always there to help. You will learn a lot with this prof.
Is clearly passionate about philosophy and it shows in his lectures!
Ashwani has been the best professor I've ever had. His take on PP110 was incredibly interesting and I would definitely take more of his classes in the years ahead.
Gives good instructions, especially with papers. Can be stricttough but he'll inspire you to want to do better for yourself. Overall good teacher.
Dr. Ashwani can inspire you a lot. However, when it comes to his lectures, it can be pretty hard to grasp. I believe I would have done better if I took notes on the laptop.
Ashwani Peetush was one of the best professors that I had so far in my freshman year in university. He is very passionate about philosophy and his lectures can sometimes at times be inspirational. His lectures are spoken with great clarify and detail. Be sure to attend his lectures so you can get a good grade though! does not post up slides though.
One of the most caring Prof's around. He truly wants you to succeed, but he won't give it to you. You need to ask for helpgo to class if you expect to do good.
Ashwani was an amazing prof to have for this course. He was always excellent at answering in class questions, and more than willing to help out students who went to his office hours. As long as you go to class and seek help when you need it, you'll do well and probably enjoy the course.
Dr. Peetush clearly showed genuine concern for all his students to strive for success. He was available for unlimited time during office hours or even by appointment. He was also very lenient and understanding. Overall, a great professor and I would take another class of his.
Excellent Professor. Cares alot about his students and will even replace initial midterm marks with second midterm marks if you're able to score a higher grade. If you don't attend class you will have a difficult time guaranteed, but if you go to class you're guaranteed over a B.
Dr. Peetush is a great professor. He is extremely passionate about the content of his lectures, as well as teaching. He is very willing to help you succeed and shows concern for his students. I definitely recommend taking one of his classes
Dr. Peetush is by far my favourite prof at Laurier. He loves what he does and this is reflected through his great energy in lecture. If you are interested in the material of his classes you will have a very positive experience. He understands that philosophy is not always an easy subject so he makes himself very available to help his students.
A professor who is passionate about your grades and etc is more than you can expect from professors nowadays. Some professors even from other universities just do not care about your grades, they either take the class for research because they have to or trying to juggle too many courses to make "ends meet." This is Canada not a 3rd world country
One of the most inspiring and knowledgeable professors at laurier. He really cares about his students and is willing to help at all costs (i.e. extend office hours, replace marks with higher ones). This class taught me a lot that I can use outside of the classroom. However, this class is not easy! You must go to class and engage the readings
Very passionate about the subject. Extremely helpful if you ask for it. Very understanding. Tough grader and the tests are intellectually challenging but the content of the course was very interesting. If I was to be evaluated differently on the material, I would definitely retake this course.
Tests are tough and he will challenge you to do your best. Great motivator and always there for you whenever you need the extra help.
He's a great Prof. If you are ever having any problems with any content, or even life in general, Ashwani will always be there to help you. His classes are pretty fun too. He often gets side tracked and goes on a tangent, but it usually ends up being about something funnyimportant anyway.
He's very interesting and cares about the students.
I thought he was a really reliable teacher and did more than was expected of him as a professor
Awesome professor, awesome class. Extremely enjoyable man, but must go to classes. Essentially all test material is based on lectures, and there is really no need for the text book except for the essay that you have to write at the end. Will definitely be looking for other classes that he teaches!
Awesome classprof. He'll actually learn your name if you go to class regularly. He will call on students which I normally don't like but did in this class. Won't make you feel stupid and loves when you make a good point. He has high energy and is passionate about what he does which makes lecture enjoyable. Going to lecture is a must. And NO FINAL!
Good prof
This guy was amazing! He was a great professor who helps a lot. He is VERY FUNNY!I advise choosing his class
The number one reason to take a class with Dr. Peetush is visiting him in office to hear him talk about the course. He is so into it. It is contagious unless you have no heart.
Started really fast but he slowed down and let us catch up. There is a bias against philosophy but with profs like him you have all sorts of benefits you don't have in larger classes such as you know he actually cares.
Starts you off on the right path. A great introduction to thinking as a major. It should be a mandatory course. He is that good.
The best kind of prof, really care about the students who want to do good in his class. Dr. Peetush goes out of his way to help students who needs it.
This class literally changed my scholastic career and my life. It is the best course I have taken at Laurier and was my first philosophy class. Dr. Peetush is an amazing professor and this class is fantastic no matter what your major is.
No discredit to any other profs but definitely the best I've had in university. He'll make you work for a good grade but he is fair and gives many opportunities to do this. He is clear on instructions given in order to succeed and is very good at keeping your interest. Cares on the well being of his students and has a great sense of humour.
So much obvious passion for the course material. Actively cares for the students and gives lots of opportunities to boost grade. Lecture can be very scattered and go very off course, so its important to go to tutorial to grab the most important portions of the lecture. FUNNY GUY
This professor is a very nice individual and quite funny to watch (not his jokes, but his persona) and clearly cares a lot about what he teaches. Which is good because the material can be very, very dry. He does have an anti-tech policy but is very open to ALC students. The exam was easy and if you do well writing papers this is the class for you.
Peetush is a very passionate professor who, aligning with what his course teaches, is very respectful to all students in his class. He treats them with care, and if you are struggling, will assist you. Very easy to approach. He is very "enthusiastic" in the classroom setting. If you have an issue with some "unconventional" lecture methods, heads up
Dr Peetush is such a awesome guy and professor! super passionate about philosophy and the most approachable as-well! Overall wants the best for his students and wants to see academic success. If you are struggling, he is more than willing to help!
Dr. Peetush was an extremely genuine person that has a huge passion for philosophy and his students and makes the class fun because of that.
Dr. Peetush is a caring and dedicated professor. He cares deeply about every single student in the lecture and wants everyone to succeed. He goes around memorizing every single students name and gives them opportunities to express any comments they feel. He gave us chances to improve our grades by replacing our worse grades with the better.
Great prof. Funny guy. Just go to class, listen and you'll do great.
Dr. Peetush is my favourite professor at Wilfrid Laurier University. He cares a lot about how well you do in his class and he seems to go out of his way to make sure you understand the material. He connects with you better than most other professors do and he comes off as more of a mentor than a normal university professor.
great prof, some Ta's marked hard. Curved final by 13%.
Loved his lectures, all assigned work is clear and to the point. Attendance for lectures are necessary in order to strive in this course. Would definitely recommend this course!!
He is a prof that wants you to succeed! Ask for clarification for assignments and you are guaranteed to do well.
Dr. Peetush is a great prof! He's amazing at engaging students who might otherwise dislike philosophy and for those who love philosophy, talking to him in office hours will mirror what it must have been like to be a pupil of Socrates or a student at Plato's Academy! If you have the chance, take as many classes with Dr. Peetush as you can!
Super fun class, the lectures kept you engaged and interested. Would love to have Ashwani be my prof again.
Very energetic. Has the most exciting lectures.
Genuinely one of the best profs at Laurier. Content can be confusing at times but his explanations and anecdotes really help and lectures are always very exciting. He's a stickler for phones in class, but his lessons are so interesting you won't even want to use yours. His final was tough but fair and if you go to lectures, the content will stick.
Professor Ashwani Peetush is one of the best professors Ive ever had at Wilfrid Laurier University. He truly cares about his students and their success, and makes himself available to them for extra help when needed. He teaches in a clear and concise manner, while also making the content very interesting.
Dr. Peetush cares a lot about his students and is truly passionate about what he is teaching. The Course isn't easy but if you put in the work, you'll see the results. If you don't get a good grade on work at the beggining of the semester but end up doing better later, Dr. peetush will replace your old mark with your new mark. One of the best Profs
Dr. Peetush is an amazing person overall. He takes pride in what he teaches and enjoys what he does. Indian Philosophy is his best class ever! He is very outgoing person, and student success is his top priority.
V passionate about what he teaches. Cares about his students. Having taken 2 courses with him in my last yr of uni, I regret not having had him sooner. He can get v distracted & go on tangents during lectures, but is v knowledgable. Understanding & helpful, even during a pandemic lol. Content can be difficult, but he's always willing to help
Professor Peetush is an amazing professor! He shows that he cares about his students succeeding. Just make sure you attend class! I took away a lot from this course and definitely recommend it.
Almost impossible to take notes during lectures due to his fast speaking and complicated wording. I stopped going to lectures halfway through and did fine as there are only two essays and the final. The take home final is defiantly on the harder side as my other classmates who never missed a class also found it difficult.
Prof really passionate about what he does, however the course is structured around 2 essays & the final, not much room to improve on your work as marks and feedback for second essay is released after final, which serves no purpose. Weighting of the 2 essays are weird, if u do better on 2nd one it replaces first mark, kinda unfair in my opinion
Dr. Peetush is exceptionally passionate about his students; he holds extra office hours, makes an effort to connect personally with each student, and is an exemplar of respect and humility. Dr. Peetush consistently delivers lectures in an engaging, attention-holding fashion, and he presents a clear, impactful view of the course material.
Dr. Peetush is easily one of the best professors at Laurier. He is incredibly kind and caring. He genuinely wants to hear what students have to think. Office hours are an absolute delight whether you're talking about philosophy, physics, or music. Really fantastic professor and incredibly passionate about what he does.
Dr. Peetush is easily one of the best professors at Laurier. He is incredibly kind and caring. He genuinely wants to hear what students have to think. Office hours are an absolute delight whether you're talking about philosophy, physics, or music. His expectations are incredibly clear for assignments.
Dr Peetush gives fantastic lectures and always welcomes students to come to his office hours. Really wonderful person and prof!!
Participation in tutorials was mandatory, and I was lucky enough to have him teach my tutorial as well and he really helped the social aspect of it and was a great prof to be around.
Love this prof. Class work and readings isn't too bad. Will continue taking his courses in the future.
Loved this prof! He was very enthusiastic and passionate of philosophy.
Professor Peetush is absolutely amazing. He is passionate about what he teaches and wants you to do well. He is engaging in lectures even through remote learning- lectures contain helpful information and he does a whole lot more than simply reading slides. He's the type of professor that you would want to teach every course. Take his classes!!
He's quite eccentric, goes on long tangents and his lectures have no order. He skips between different lectures, different methods of teaching (drawing) and his personal life. First I thought great, no boring class but you will get lost and I gave up on note taking. His course syllabus isn't clear either so have fun emailing him for clarification.
In a class of 70, 200 or even 300, Dr. Peetush has the unique ability to make it feel like you're in a 1 on 1 class. If you provide him with an inkling of curiosity or passion about practically anything, he will attentively listen and discuss for great lengths of time - regardless of how inconvenient it may be. If you attend Laurier, ... (1/2)
..regardless of which major, I highly stress the importance of spending a semester with Dr. Peetush. If you can simply show up to class, take notes and engage in Dr. Peetush's readings, you will not only become a better student - you will become a better version of yourself. (2/2) (Side Bar: above and beyond understanding to all ALC students)
A very caring professor.
While Peetush excels at keeping his audience's attention with engaging lectures, his disorganized ramblings paired with a lack of online resources can make understanding the course material unnecessarily difficult. He is definitely a prof that elicits strong emotions from students, meaning you either love him or hate him.
Peetush inspires his students yet he rambles and does not provide slides. So, you have to attend class and if not, will have to do pages long readings to catch up. TAs don't know what they're doing and have a clear grading criteria yet fail to grade accurately and miss things written in the assignment. For an intro class, it's too difficult.
Dr Peetush is a great professor, he is a thoughtful and caring in his teaching style. While the course itself is interesting and content is a bit difficult to wrap our head around. Dr Peetush definitely puts in the effort with each student in order to clarify the difficult topics that are discussed and makes it engaging so that you retain it.
This professor really opened up the field to me. He helped me and other students beyond what was asked and gave crucial feedback on my work which helped me in my other courses. He is definitely passionate about his work and makes you want to do the work but more so makes you want to do actually participate and learn something.
This class was a breeze as long as you attended lectures and were respectful. Being on your phone is a big no in this class, and he will draw attention to it and embarrass you, which honestly that's on you, not him. Grading is only two essays and then a take-home paper, which isn't hard if you attend lectures and do the readings.
PP110 seemed very unorganized in terms of layout, grading, and lecture content. Tutorials were basically pointless since we did not discuss any course content. Dr.Peetush is a very enthusiastic lecturer with a true passion for philosophy. He does not allow phones, which is understandable, but I found his enforcement of this rule a bit excessive.
Dr. Peetush is a wonderful professor, he cares about his students and wants them to flourish. I am always ready to learn more from Dr. Peetush. The course material is very interesting but also heavy in content. If you are not willing to put effort then you will struggle. I recommend taking his other courses as well. His lectures are the best!
he appeals to the masses who are easily influenced and easily inspired by his jargon. You will notice that people either love him for his 'inspirational words' or not, due to his disorganized methods of teaching, long readings, and incompetent TAs.
Amazing professor! I took his course, Indian Philosophy, while I was in first year, so I found it difficult. His lectures were very long, so it was hard to concentrate for 3 hours. He is extremely helpful and caring, and he does try to keep you engaged during lectures. Go to his office hours! He is very helpful and a pleasure to chat with!
was very all over the place at times, hard to follow lectures. as long as you study and do the readings youre fine.
Dr. Ashwani Peetush is an incredible philosophy professor who makes every lecture exciting and thought-provoking. He has a way of explaining big ideas that's clear and relatable, sparking deep conversations that really make you think. His passion for philosophy is contagious, and his classes are both challenging and rewarding.
This isn't a bird course and you'll have to learn a lot. Attend all lectures, do readings, information given there will be asked on exam. The lectures were very fun. Go to office hours, even if you don't have a specific question. If you have no desire to do readings and attend these classes, then drop the course and make your life easier :-)
Dr. Peetush is a great professor. Really cares about his students and is willing to go above and beyond for them. If you show interest in the course content and determination to do good in it then he will definitely help you as much as he can. Lectures can be hard to follow but time goes pretty fast when he is lecturing.
I didn't expect it but pp103 because one of those courses i won't forget even through im in fourth year. the course wasn't too hard itself and pretty easy to get a 12 if you put a little bit of effort. Dr Peetush is what makes the class unique and really puts in the effort and cares about his students. The more you put in the more you get out.
One of the best professors that I have ever had. The class is great and has helped motivate me for the rest of my life. As far as first year electives it was not the easiest but it is still very possible to get a high grade if you care about the content. The lectures were spectacular and Dr. Peetush cares a lot about his students.
A great teacher.
Best professor I have ever had. Genuinely cares for his students. Passionate beyond measure. Explains complex concepts in such a way your brain wants to learn! Lives his own philosophy. Will offer you tea, will change your life, will expose you to beautiful arts, cultures, and poetry, will be honest and open, will give you hope and faith in life.
Dr Peetush is clearly passionate about philosophy but his methods of teaching are disorganized. He never follows one train of thought, his slides are essentially pointless and he wastes a ton of lecture time yelling at students for meaningless crap. Its also 3 hours, from 7-10pm which trust me, will annoy the living hell out of you.
W prof, super eccentric but most interesting class experience I've ever had
The kindest man ever. This class made me happy. Cares deeply about his students and philosophy. His lectures felt disorganized but this was the first time the class had run so he did his best. First midterm was in groups which was cool. Your lowest grade was dropped and if you attend lectures he is so understanding. If you don't attend he notices.
Professor Peetush's class is a unique experience - he's passionate but can be disorganized. Attend lectures, use the textbook and tools like unstuckstudy to stay on top of the work. Overall, a rewarding class.
Most papers you write are spent agreeing with one of his papers. Lectures are long with a strict no phone policy where you will be called out if he sees you using it. Some may find him inspiring but it just comes off as self importance.
Hope you enjoy meandering lectures where you will have no clue what the testable material is. Don't worry, easiest marker who ever lived. Just don't expect to learn a single thing.
2 midterms and a final each at 30%, self eval worth 10%, and 10% BONUS if you really just attend class. Will also drop lowest out of 2 midterms and exam. 2 midterms both done in groups too. Best prof.
Dr.Peetush was very nice, however his lectures felt disorganized and all over the place as he would go off into tangents often. If you don't want to put the work in with reading the text book and showing up everyday don't take this class.
If you don't get off to old profs being obsessed with themselves and their doctorates, do NOT take this course. I hated every minute of his lectures. The type of prof who loves hearing himself talk, more about his degrees than the content. Had to Google course material to understand wtf he was getting at. Very disorganized. Content is interesting.
Bird course. He will assert it is not, but it really is. All you have to do is show up to class so you don't miss any bonus quizzes. The bonus quizzes will, 1. boost your mark, and 2. ensure you are in a room with other people who have been to every class for the midterms (midterms taken in groups of 4-7 ppl). You don't have to read the textbook.
Heavy emphasis on attendance makes this class unnecessarily stressful. Missing class is clearly punished, which feels ironic for a course on the philosophy of happiness. Despite taking four challenging CS courses this semester, this was my lowest grade even though the material itself is not difficult. If you don't like going to a 3 hour lecture DNT
