Group project sucks
Teaches about actual stuff i n the market
Likes what he teaches
Ends class early everyday, thinks everything is easy so he doesn't understand when students are having trouble
He did a great job of making a very difficult class easier wrap my mind around. He's clearly very smart and loves finance, and that may not help him relate to how poorly prepared the average student is to a class as hard as this one... But he gives you time to absorb the information and understand the material to prepare you for the final.
Talks and gives examples of the actual investments. Gives relate-able examples and class is usually less than 2 hours.
Gives real life relate-able examples. Quizzes are all online and drops the lowest one. Asked him questions and he usually gave a new example to explain it.
Nice guy. If you study , then everything is easy peasy
Knows his stuff really well and sometimes assumes that students are also at the same level
Economics isn't exactly exciting and it's easy to let your mind wander in class. But Asim speaks in a way where you are actually able to listen and learn what he is talking about. He breaks down the information in a great way! Great teacher. He is funny too.
He is not a teacher at all, no any examples in the class, no communication via e-mail. Will not recommend him.
nice instructor boring classes, use lots of powerpoints.
Doesn't seem like he is passionated in teaching. Rush to end and leave the class. Doesn't do example questions, even when student asked him to. Goes through PPW very quickly without much explanation to PPW. Spend most of the class time chatting than teaching. Expect students have basic investment knowledge. Do not recommend if you can choose other
Great guy, knows his stuff really well. Expects you to remember basic stuff from previous classes. free investment advice in class, if you are into that sort of stuff.
Laid back guy, all the quizzes were online, and exams were multiple choice.
Had him for 3 different classes, if you like real world finance and investments then you will really like , that's my personal experience.
Asim is pretty good for underachievers to pass the course, for a real knowledge take a good experienced and educated professor.
Had him for micro Econ before, that's why I chose him. Planing to take him for my third year course. I have experienced two classes with him and each was a different experience. I asked some 4th year friends, they said that the second year investment class is too boring for him, unless someone starts chatting about Thier investment , then it's good
A student mentioned that he read mixed reviews about him on this sie, so he opened the page on the projector. Oh boy, he can take criticism with a smile. I enjoy his class, he talks about actual investments . Personally thats great for me and anytime I have questions I get a pretty good answer, with a related example
Took last year , you get participation points and partial marks on the in class quizzes
Took him in the evening class. Usual difficulty, he doesnt ask for attendance. Answers to chapter end questions are on moodle. I asked him to solve one of them, he asked if I have tried it to do it myself first. After I said yes, he basically sat down explained the question in 3 different ways. I dont know if he does this for every one or not.
I am taking him again for the 4th year class
Heavy calculation class. Make sure you buy the workbook or you can download it for free from google search. He makes you research on a specific company.
Easy class, on the side, some times tells really fun stuff
loves to argue, so I can see why some people might dislike him. Sometimes he asks random questions and gives bonus marks. He is also against mutual funds,
Asim's classes are an absolute pleasure. Knowledgeable guy and teaches the curriculum as it relates to the real world, I often spend time talking to him about stock plays after class, very approachable and caring.
Its basic investment class. Quizzes were online. I had some fun discussion with him for some of my trades. For his background, He is really a pretty down to earth guy.
He is preety smart guy. Sometimes get carried away about unrelated topics , which can be fun.
Easiest class to get an A, there are only 4 chapters. Very chill guy.
Had him for two previous classes. He is the most practical teacher for finance. There is also participation marks.
Laid back, sometimes he feels lazy or boared but he is smart when he decides to be.
Asim is a funny guy and often tries to make awkward jokes but i did not enjoy his class. I attended every class and this was my lowest grade. He does not make the exams. He often gets side tracked and goes off topic, although it is sometimes useful real-world information. He does care and enjoys if you ask questions.
He recorded his lectures , that were available through out the semester. I asked for a live session at a different time and instead I got a live one to one session which was nice of him to do
Good instructor. He's knowledgeable and enthusiastic. It's evident he enjoy's his field of work. A drawback is that the pace of his lessons is too fast. His classes would be better if he explained topics in a step by step manner and included step by step examples on a whiteboard with the class following along. Overall though good instructor.
I am taking his summer course. Its really condensed and you have to go through a lot of materiel in a short period of time. Asked him bunch of questions after class, so far he is very responsive to them.
Asim doesnt make you feel the student instructor relationship he is more like a friend he lets you understand the material rather than having to just memorize, i would take his class again for sure, highly recommended
Everything was online except for the final. Called him 3 times but he never picks up but I left voice mails and got call backs 2 times after a day. Pretty cooperative person overall.
Terrible instructor and never answered via e-mails. Attendance isn't required for this course.
Asim seems a nice person, but he isn't a teacher at all. The most classes he was talking about himself rather than teaching; plus he has some personal and communication issues (doesn't like e-mails).
He is definitely smart and I have asked him bunch of questions after class. Decent choice, but he does gets bored if you dont ask any questions in class
Sometimes talks too fast, overall decent choice. Quizzes are online
He is a great guy and yes he does talk fast but ask him questions and he will slow down - he wants all his students to be successful - if you don't ask the questions he cant help you and he is willing to do that . If you put the work into it you will do well. I would take him again
Asim is a very problematic instructor, he doesn't care about students, no communication, no explanations on the problems, he reads PPT slides and talking about himself how he is cool and smart. Avoid him
Awesome
You are great. Thank you
Terrible. Buy the book and read, nothing learn from him.
He opened up this site in the last class. He is great
Asim isnt so bad, but far from the best ones. You have to learn yourself plus he reads off from slides without any detailed explanation. Overall, he was very confusing teacher and probably will not take him for any other courses
Decent choice. He dropped the lowest marked quiz, that helped. The course is very content heavy. This should be a two part class. Overall he keeps it interesting by telling stories.
This guy is the real deal when it comes to practical experience with what he is teaching. Very knowledgable, and has lots of advice but you HAVE TO ASK QUESTIONS. I found his lectures super intriguing and I learned a boatload of useful information from this class. If you take online classes you shouldn't be able to rate on here. This guy is good.
Do not take this if you cannot have the patience to practice the book. It is really hard and his quizzes are so difficult.
So far one the best instructors I have encountered at NAIT.
He talks about his self more than he teaches you to do equation problem. his slides are also ridiculous knowing that not all of the contents in every chapter will be part of the exams. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He actually cares and I just read some comments which dont even basic decency
He keeps on asking in class that if anybody has any questions about anything
He talks about stocks and if you like that sort of stuff, its a good intro clas. He randomly gives out bonus points
If you're taking the class because its mandatory you might not enjoy it as much. But if you have interest in stocks, I would highly recommend this prof. The real life scenarios he talks about in class are very interesting. Will give one on one time with any questions you have regarding school or actual stock market, which I found very helpful.
If your looking to learn in this course do not take him he mostly read the slides. Yes he may give you consideration by giving extra credit and most of his finals isn't cumulative, yet it is still hard knowing that you have to learn and read every part of the chapter that he did not teach. FINANCE STUDENTS DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I really enjoyed Asim's Class. He's a no-nonsense instructor who will walk you through problems if you ask. He gives great investment advice and encourages participation in a class that would otherwise be pretty dry. He applies theories in a real-world investment way that is easy for non-finance students to understand. if you do the homework pass
His accent is hard to understand at times and he speaks fast. He rushes through notes, only explaining the concepts again if someone asks - but it won't be in detail, he will just repeat himself. Most days the class finished 40 mins in. & There was a large gap between class notes and the textbook.
Apart from getting a little bit difficult with his accent for new international students, hes a good teacher. Easy to get A if you follow coursepack(including practice midterm and final) and his quizzes.
Asims class is one of very few classes I actually enjoy going too. He's a great guy and makes the material in course fun and uses actual examples in real life which helps you understand it's usefulness in real life.
Avoid this prof at all times. All he does is read from the slides like a robot, with no further explanation or help. There is such a large gap between his quizzes and notes. If you ask questions, he will just read the solutions, not showing you how to do it. You could do 100% better by reading from your textbook by yourself.
Relax laid back kind of a person, really likes to talk about the markets and give tons of financial advice, off the record
Asim lectures are a joke. All he does is rush through the PowerPoint slides, doesn't provide any in-class opportunities to practise or learn the material. He just refers you to the textbook questions. Get ready to teach yourself.
Please dont ever have a class with Asim, he just read slides, tests are not on what you were self taught in the quizzes. more than 60 questions in like 50 minutes. I remember one time someone asked for a solution on a problem and it took him 9 miuntes just 1. like how do we do 60+ questions in such a short time? Its 100% self study.
Please do yourself a favour and DO NOT take his class. I have always heard that this class is supposed to be easy, but unfortunately it didn't go well for me. It was so hard understanding him. He didn't really care about his students. He even said one time "you are learning that in Stat so I'm not teaching you it & I don't even want to."
Its a love hate relation, if you are interested in the markets , you will enjoys it but if you are not into that kind of stuff then this will be difficult
Asim is wonderful at applying real-world examples to the course content, he is also very accommodating which is nice during covid-19/online schooling. Make sure to practice the math as much as possible and read the textbook. BEWARE: quizzes are much harder than you would expect and be ready for short exam times.
You can tell he is passionate about the markets but careless in teaching he half-assed his way through the semester. Rushes through slides and sure it is nice he comments "I'm not going to test you on this" but what would actually help would be learning objectives, what pages in the text are relevant, exam info, instead "refer to the textbook Q"
Give tons of real world examples to relate to the subject, makes it easier to understand
Its an easy class to get a high grade and pick up your GPA. It has only 4 chapters and the exam and quizzes are open book
Save yourself from this instructor. Very lazy to teach. Quizzes/tests are a lot harder than you'd think plus the time given is never enough. Please, save yourself!
Taken him for micro, cash and this class. So far pretty solid choice as compared to the other teacher that teaches this.
He did open this in the class and his comment was to be creative in insults, to make it at least fun to read. Its a heavy course and you do need to read up. I liked that he talks about the current market and I did learn a lot form it.
He doesn't respond to emails and doesn't explain anything else besides what's on the slides. Not passionate about teaching whatsoever. Maybe sent 3 emails for the entire semester. Seems like a burden to answer questions. Might as well learn everything from the textbook or youtube.
Its an easy class , the exams are open book and tells you what to expect on the exam
Cash is an easy course, teach yourself, you'll pass. Just don't expect anything from this "teacher."
Asim really failed his students this semester. Maybe online teaching isn't his thing, or maybe it just brought out the laziness in him?? Either way, from someone who was genuinely interested in the subject - what a letdown. Take Asim & teach yourself from the textbook. Also he inflated the entire class's grades to bring his class grade average up.
Be prepared to learn a lot of material yourself. Tests are extremely difficult and I never felt prepared in the slightest no matter how much I tried to study. NAIT really needs more teachers for this course as Asim was my only option and I knew from a previous class that this would be a struggle for me. With that said I do like Asim personally.
Made the class easy and fun, lots of fun stories and interesting side discussions
He has two types of lectures. One set is prerecorded and second one is live ones and also recorded. You have to buy access to my lab, all the quizzes are in it. Responds to questions very fast. I also think that he has OCD
This was the last class I took with him, for the whole of my degree each year I had a class with him. He is way smarter than he lets on.
I had Asim for the second half of my course and I can't say he was too bad. I liked how he went through the course pack questions, but I also thought that he could have written more steps out as he did the questions. He did rely a lot on the PowerPoints, but maybe that's just normal for this course. Overall, not bad.
Asim is the best instructor I had at NAIT. He gives a detailed investment analysis more than any Warren Buffet analyst's level. He is simply above him. Easy exams, easy group work, and if you e-mail him, he answers almost when I finish my e-mail. He is a lovely man; I enjoyed his class and speaking Arabic with him. A+
It's a self-study course, Asim simply reads PPT slides and no any communications. I sent him 3 e-mails; my 1st e-mail was ignored, 2nd took 4 days to answer me, 3rd - 5 days. He answered me with a general info, one was with misleading info (I think it was on purpose). Also, Asim is a show-off guy and makes a false impression about his expertise. F
Interesting guy with live commentary about the markets.
Solid dude
Professor Asim is a fantastic professor, one of my favourites this semester. His lectures are to the point, he covers everything that is tested, and he's very funny, which helps keep the class interesting. He's a good teacher and I highly recommend taking his class if you can.
Asim is a solid dude. I will take him again keep in mind FNCE 4471 is a hard course but he is a fair prof.
Really funny guy, gave class extra marks.
Responds to emails super fast. He can get distracted during lectures but usually those are pretty interesting discussions
Asim is a super chill dude, absolute gem of a professor. He is even a celebrity! Tells lots of funny stories in class and makes the class super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Found this guy from the hit series "Survivor Pakistan". He uses what he learned on the show in class and makes us vote people out of the class if they were deemed a liability to the class. I hope he doesn't use his amazing spear techniques to hit us when we get an easy answer wrong. However, I like the challenge.
Asim is like a unicorn - rare, mystical, and elusive. His teaching style is like a rollercoaster. Thrilling, exciting, and sometimes terrifying. If you are up for a fun, exciting class, this is the right professor for you
I was lost in the Himalayan mountains near the summit of Mt. Everest and I was fearing for my life with the coming storm and lack of oxygen. As my vision dimmed and the the world became engulfed by the descending snow, I saw a figure appear in the distance. That man was Asim Yaqub. I asked him why he'd put himself in harms way to save me. Part.1
He only responded saying, "I survived Pakistan Survivor. I can survive anything." With his strong motivational words and vigor for success, he picked me up and carried me to the summit. As we looked above the clouds and the known world, he looked at me and said, "Jim Cramer is a holy man and a wise financial figure in the world." Part.2
We descended the summit of the highest mountain of the world and descended through dangerous cliffs and chasms, storms and oxygen deficiency. I shall use every last second of my life and energy to spread the word of Asim and his heroic endeavors through taking his classes. I have to say this, "Have you heard of the hit series "Survivor Pakistan?"
I'd take a class with Asim as the instructor again. He's engaging with lectures and is really funny. He also is super accommodating with his students and wants to see them succeed. Fair grader and teaches on the graded material.
Don't take this class if you like investments and you came here to know more. You will be left angry with investments after this course because you were supposed to be taught the material but all you did was struggle by yourself.
Best prof ever!!!!
Really good teacher and help you in every way he can
Professor Asim is a true legend - his classes are like an epic Survivor challenge, but with unstuckstudy as your trusty sidekick. Engaging lectures, just the right amount of difficulty, and a dash of celebrity flair. Sign me up!
Unusually relaxed but to the point. Doesn't waste time for fluff. Could spend more time on theory though. Other than that solid.
Asim is truly a gem, kept things very easy to understand, cares about students and their problems and helped me a lot to pass the class.
He's chill but a bit unfiltered. Explains stuff again after class in case you didn't get something during the lecture. Never contacted after class but very approachable in person. Highly knowledgeable and gave extra marks to the whole class!
