Professor Satpathy is extremely smart but teaching is not his talent. You learn about some really cool programs that are actually really useful, however, his lectures are super unorganized and the slides he posts are nearly useless. If you aren't well versed on everything he mentions in class he makes you feel like you are slacking off.
Cis 309 online uses the book, but the book doesnt explain how to really do the problems. You will have to learn by yourself by looking it up online.
The good thing about this class is that there is only 2 tests which are the midterm and the final, which he allows multiple cheat sheets. There are 12 assignments and they are due every Thursday and they can be time consuming. There's also quite a few group projects but he gives you no time in class to work on in class. Somewhat of an easy class.
Textbook is a must (found it online for free). Each week: read a chapter, do a practice quiz (answers given), and turn in the homework. 5 assignments, 1 case study, and 2 tests total. Prof emailed me back when I had a question, and the rest was independent learning via the textbook. Interesting material IMO, tricky at times but not too bad.
Professor Satpathy, while knowledgeable in his field, is unable to adequately convey information in lectures. Only reason I did well was because I learned everything in other courses already. He goes over each concept once, very quickly, and showing examples on a tiny projected image, refusing to zoom in or repeat himself. Learned nothing.
Dr. Satpathy is excited about the field and has extensive knowledge, but doesnt convey it in a way to keep students engaged. He doesnt give you much credit in class for answering if its not exactly what hes looking for. His grammar in assignments and lectures are also rough, and he often seems lost during class when going over things.
Textbook "not required" good luck on figuring out how to prepare for his exams! Slides are too vague when it comes to test material. He is very knowledgable but fails to convey his knowledge to students. Be ware of lectures may go off topic sometimes, and in-class labs! P.S. Only one day of Office h's. Longest/ heaviest group project in history.
He's passionate about what he teaches, he's approachable and he's fair. There's usually a hands on assignment due every week, sometimes it's individual, other times it's with your group. Group project sucked. Exams are a bit harder than I expected. When group project starts, you still have labs and hands on activities assigned, it's a lot.
The professor is hilarious. I missed so many random points on little projects. The directions in assignments are not super specific, so you can lose points on anything. Lectures are him calling on random students to answer questions. Class could be taught in 5 minutes.
badest on at ASU don't take his class
I took this course because it was required to take. Looking back, I think it was a great class. Prof. Satpathy truly cares for his students. This is the only class at ASU where I learned ArcGIS, Tableau, and JMP that empowered me for a competitive job market. If you are in ASU to learn marketable skills, take his class. He will prepare you well.
Only 2 weeks into this course and it is already the worst class I have ever taken. The material is insanely boring and the professor doesn't help with that. Im not sure if the material is difficult or if he is just that bad at teaching it. He does not explain ANYTHING. Homework has no explanation and you are left walking blind through assignments.
Took this online, theres a group project and its terrible. HW and quizzes are easy to pass, just try. There is one midterm and one final worth 50 points each. If the group project wasnt in this class it wouldnt be as bad. Boring material and the JMP system you need is confusing. Dont take unless you need to.
A lot of project based stuff and the exams were hard unless you were 100% on top of it. I didn't do well on them but i made sure to do great on the projects. The teacher was only so helpful with the software needed to take the class but most of them have a decent walk through he gives you. Final was a group project that luckily my team was okay on
Even if you watch the videos the quizzes & exams are extremely tough. There are some questions that you have to guess on, I dont know where he gets these questions from. He said textbook wasnt necessary but maybe it is. Theres a group project he is a harsh grader on. He seems to care, but his class structure isnt great. Dont know how I an A.
The class is fairly average in difficulty. The lectures/lab videos are helpful for the quizzes and exams and it seems like Dr. Asish Satpathy is passionate about his teachings and cares about his students succeeding. Quizzes and assignments are easy. Review the material before the exam and youll be fine. Group project isnt great but not terrible
This class is challenging, but manageable if you go to class and pay attention. The videos are helpful but not necessary, I just took notes from the slides. Some of the homework assignments are hard, but nothing too horrible. You get a full sheet of notes for the midterm and final, so use that to your advantage
Dr Asish Satpathy has NO empathy, compassion or understanding for students with Group assignments. None. He says to email him and when you do, he does nothing. I had a B until a group member dropped the ball. I'd advised him prior to the final there were issues and still went from a 83 to a 79 (B- to a C+). WPC 300 students, stay away!
He's a horrible lecturer. Extremely boring to listen to. Speaks extremely slow and says "Um" like every other sentence like he doesn't know what he is talking about. What should take like 7 mins to explain takes him 20 mins cause he talks so slow. Puts me to sleep.
This class was extremely frustrating. Satpathy somehow found a way to make an already boring subject (stats) and make it even more boring. His lectures are simply him reading practically word for word from his handout. Feedback wasn't helpful. He assigns a group project too, which for an online class is really tough. I'd recommend someone else.
Easy class, one assignment and quiz every week. DON'T NEED BOOK, you can pass as long as you take notes for his video lectures and participate in the Slack. Midterm and Final, but you can use one sheet paper doublesided of notes and provides a study guide lecture for final! Do your work and take notes and study for the final and you'll pass with A
Satpathy clearly cares about the subject and his students, but this is just a difficult class. Every week you have to do an assignment and a quiz. The assignments are kind of difficult if you do not attend lab/lecture. There is also a group project that counts for 35% of your grade. The 2 exams are pretty hard too, but you get a cheat sheet.
Super boring but knowledgeable. I learned cool things for data analytics that i can see being used at work, but nothing else. laptops are fine, no extra credit, no reading, attendance not mandatory, do the hw and quizzes, they will haunt you if you don't but some are dropped. exam is not curved 3/10 ...i rounded up :/
Satpathy is a nice teacher who cares about his students but his lectures are very boring. If you watch all the lectures the class is pretty easy. There is one group project that is worth a large portion of your grade but if everyone does their part then it isn't too bad.
He doesn't give a sh#t about his students. When you contact him he doesn't answer. He requires you to meet with him to introduce your group project to him and he'll approve everything then turn around and gives a bad grade. Very unclear grading criteria. Introduces you to new required programs for analytics that do everything excel does but harder.
He assigned me to a group of 5 where nobody wanted to talk. I kept telling him about this but he seemed not to care. Every time I told him about the lack of communication, he told me to send them messages. I was really sick of trying to involve everybody every single day. Good luck on finding a good team or you will fail this class!
I hate every single thing about this class
Is his English good enough to teach this class? He doesnt seem he understand what we say in the presentation
Is this class data analytics or public speaking class? ASU should consider changing its format.
Class isn't mandatory but I find it helpful. It saved me time because he goes over the lab at the end of the class. There's weekly quizzes and labs and assignments are every other week. Idk why he has such bad review but this class could've been a lot worse if you had a bad professor. He literally provides all materials you need. Great prof!!
The material in this class is super helpful (JMP, Tableau, Excel) but he only dedicates 1 week to teaching these systems. His lectures were completely useless and I learned more through Google than anything. The group projects were a good way to practice using the systems that he didn't teach you about to analyze data, which is a helpful skill.
My biggest gripe is that he'd email everybody saying that he's holding some sort of zoom meeting to go over the group project at like 3pm on a Saturday with only 3 hours notice. He's always trying to hold out of class meetings and entices students w/ info that is needed to pass the class. Take another professor
This professor is literally hell on earth. I got an A in the class several semesters ago, but it was not worth the difficulty. Arbitrary grading and not sympathetic. The worst is that he puts on a mask of being nice. Avoid at all costs.
Professor Asish Satpathy is a great Professor, Professor Satpathy taught this course very well and with attending the lectures and little effort on the class you should receive an A. This course is busy, there is a group project that you will be working on for month and a half.
I unexpectedly enjoyed this class. The professor is passionate about what he teaches and will help you. If you get confused, just make sure to ask questions. Quizzes, lab/assignments are doable. The midterm and group project is challenging.
Overall this class isn't too bad, however, the final exam will destroy your grade so be prepared for that. Professor Satpathy is probably one of the better professors for this class but his lectures and review videos are painfully boring and can be hard to follow. Aside from Excel & JMP techniques, this class is mostly useless information.
Don't listen to the other ratings, they're all lazy students and don't give one bit of effort. This class was super simple. Quizzes were a joke; group project that was really simple; assignments could be a little hard, but he literally provided you with the video on how to do it. Both exams were the hardest and wasn't bad since he prepared you.
Class is easy if you actually put in some effort. Midterm and final are kinda hard but not too badI got like a 75 on both and still got an A in the end. Just try your best and actually learn the material and youll be fine.
His class isn't that hard outside for his impossible exams but he will try to take off points for everything possible. His class is such a waste of time as this information is not useful at all. Just don't take this professor as he doesn't even care for his students.
His TA's grades everything and he does nothing. His lectures are like watching paint dry. I would take any other class because it is such useless information. All JMP does is stuff excel does but makes it harder. Just stay away from this class too bad he was the only professor I could take in the summer.
His score is this low for a reason. A group project that is just a pain in the backside with two exams that just drop everyone's grades. Don't take this professor and save yourself a headache.
His final exam is extremely hard. The class itself isn't bad until you get to the exams where everything from the semester is just thrown at you at once. Not the worst professor in the world but he will take points off for little reasons. I personally wouldn't take him if you can find a better professor somewhere else.
This course is accelerated, however, that does not make up for the complete lack of effort and guidance by Professor Satpathy. The egregious neglect to assist students, or provide any necessary direction when advancing the course, shows a complete lackadaisical approach to their teaching, and as well, a total inability to teach the course
Not a fun class, he expects you to retain a semester's worth of material for one exam. He gives review videos that don't show you how to do the things on the actual exam. The only reason I passed was due to a friend's help. Worst grade at ASU so far.
This class is already difficult material, the professor makes it more difficult artificially, you could not improve, because results were hidden. Labs were vague compared to Homework, final exam was more theoretical rather than what you learned. Considering the practical material needs to be trained, multiple attempts *should* be allowed. Avoid
This class is definitely hard. You need to for sure watch the lectures to be able to do the Labs, Hands on assignments and quizzes. We also have a group project. His teacher assistants and himself arent that accessible. Set up a meeting with the professor because I needed help with my group project part and he never showed; waited 30 minutes.
WPC300 ISN'T EASY. But if you really pay attention to his lectures for the quizzes & the lab videos for the labs/HOAs, youll do well in the class. There's a group project which can be stressful depending on your teammates but hes very supportive & offers good advice. He was very thoughtful & understanding when I reached out for help multiple times.
I did session A. The HOA and labs are easy just follow the video for the lab he walks through how to do it. I recommend doing the lab then the HOA so you can apply what you learned in the lab to the HOA. The practical exam is based on excel and jmp. The final exam isn't easy. 30 pts EC at the end of the semester.
I would never recommend someone to take his class. If you have other options TAKE THEM. You have labs, assignments, and quizzes due every week (which he grades very hard on). Then you have a practical exam on those labs. Then you have a huge group project (basically did it on my own and I told him and he did nothing). Then an extremely hard final.
One of the weirdest teachers I have ever had. Does not like to admit he is wrong and if you look tired he will make you get up and take a lap. Roasted each group for group projects in front of other students. The excel/jmp assignments are hard, require a lot of detail and are graded by the TA. 80 question final too!
Terrible lectures and no textbook to fall back on. Very interesting topic and tools but absolutely horrible delivery of subject matter. Unable to match wrong answers on HW with correct solutions for learning purposes because prof says the info will get posted online. What a joke.
You have three assignments every week. One of which he makes a lab video which is step by step. Follow along and the point are guaranteed. The group project was relatively easy but getting ahold of him was hard as we were in different time zones and he would show up late. Final exam requires honorlock. If you do the work, you'll pass the class.
I've had many teachers and classes over the years that I haven't liked, but this WPC class with Satpathy has to be the worst. I genuinely feel anger and hatred towards this professor. He not only is terrible at teaching you anything, but his lecture videos are full of mistakes, accidents, and confusion. Getting an A requires some luck.
The class is extremely time consuming, which can make it really difficult. His lectures were straight forward and contained a lot of information relative to the assignments/labs. If you have the patience to get thru the lectures and take notes with the slides he provides you will be able to get a good grade. TAs constantly have office hours.
Terrible and not even able to do the work he teaches. I took wpc 300 and the modules he would teach in excel were littered with mistakes where he wouldn't know how to do something, took a long time to find where something was, and would put data in the wrong groups. I didn't even sign up for this professor but my professor used his lectures.
I don't write reviews very often but Prof Satpathy is definitely NOT the negative reviews here. He is accessible, helpful, and overall a nice guy. The content of the work can be challenging but it's not hard at all! He was sick the last part of our semester but he still tried his best to be engaged with the class. Take him.
Mixed feelings about this course and the professor. He is well-experienced and very knowledgeable, but had difficulties explaining certain concepts in depth to students. The course is comprised of weekly labs and quizzes, a midterm exam, and a final. Make sure to attend class, take notes, and pay attention to concepts. Very data analysis heavy.
WPC-300 is a difficult class. If you want a good grade (between an A or B) you have to put A LOT of time into it. It's not a class you can Quizlet your way through. You need to EARN the grade. Satpathy wants his students to succeed and will help you if you ask for it. His assignments are hard but if you put the work in, you'll do fine.
This class isn't a walk in the park. You NEED to put in effort. Study the lecture notes and labs, because at the end you will have a cumulative midterm and final. The midterm is based on solving problems in jmp /excel. The final is applying concepts to multiple choice questions. His lectures/tests have errors, but he'll blame you for not passing.
The other reviews for Dr. Satpathy are very misleading. It is a tough course and will require a lot of work outside of class but he is a great professor. Gives a practice practical exam that is very similar to real exam. Has videos for lab that walk you through it exactly step by step. As long as you put in the work, it is very easy to get an A.
Avoid him, he does not do a good job of promoting class discussions and is very unclear about expectations of grading. I am fortunate to learn this material outside of class. He doesn't teach very well either.
Ton of work in this class. Not extremely hard but it will take you hours if you wanna get an A on the assignments. Told us the entire semester we could use notes on the exam, and then at the last lecture changed his mind. Group project was pretty stressful but he didnt grade harshly at all so I gave him two stars.
Pause and Ponder, then find a different professor for this course. Satpathy's lectures are more mundane than shopping lists and you receive no feedback on assignments. The group project was frustrating and Satpathy gives minimal guidance on assignments. Awful material and condescending professor. Constant mistakes in lectures. Avoid, if possible.
HW is extremely difficult Excel stuff that take hours and then go to class and listen to a lecture about the most Pre-K level "problem solving". He doesn't even attempt to help us understand the HW. Watch videos on the practice HW and use it to get at least an 80% on the actual HW. Says attendance isn't mandatory but then gives random pop-quizzes.
Homework is only on excel then you go to class and he rambles about stuff that has no correlation to the homework. Proceeds to get frustrated that no one pays attention because no one needs to since it doesn't pertain to the hw. Joke of a class makes the most kindergarten topic of solving problems seem like a high level topic it's hilarious.
This class teaches problem-solving frameworks using McKinsey's seven steps of the bulletproof framework). Not Pre-K stuff that some students have mentioned in their ratings. MS Excel is used for problem-solving tools, and the course uses the MyEducator textbook for practice and assignments. Best teacher I have ever had in my life.
Honestly the way the course is setup is stupid. It is a pretty easy course on Excel but the way the professor teaches just isn't effective and very boring. One of my least favorite professors. I-clicker is used.
I worked very hard in this class. It is not hard if you stay on top of things. However, when I reached out for help, this professor was unprofessional. His responses weren't even in complete sentences. He refused to help or offer an explanation as to why because "he was "traveling internationally." This was the day before the final exam.
Condescending attitude. Says attendance is not mandatory but has pop quizzes that end up being 5% of your grade. Lectures are unrelated to homework, and hw will take FOREVER. Join a groupchat or discord if you want to pass tbh. You have excel homework, concept quizzes, excel case studies, and one take home final. This class was such a headache.
Lectures are decent. Your grade will be primarily based upon your grades on excel homework and the final exam grade. If you watch the videos on excel and show up to lectures, you should be able to pass with a "B" easily.
A lot of material can be found online. Final is not timed and is open note/book so you can do well. Lectures aren't really helpful
Lectures don't relate to HW or tests at all. He rambles on about material that doesn't relate to anything graded. Be ready to rewatch Canvas videos on repeat when it comes to every assignment.
Keep an eye out for this course. It is mandatory for all business majors and while the course is still being designed and tweaked, it will be a challenging one if you aren't prepared. Prof Satpathy lays out the criteria to succeed, and the Assignments aren't too difficult, but it's easy to fall behind and drown. No extra credit.
Dr. Satpathy cares for his students. His lectures are very clear and always help in completing the assignment successfully. He provides a lot of additional resources for a better understanding of the materials. I enjoyed his class. One of my favorite professors at ASU.
If I had to choose between fighting the ape that ripped that ladies face off with my arms tied behind my back or take this class again with satpathy i would choose the ape.
Don't take this professor. The class isn't very hard but attendance is required and the lectures are painful to sit through. I'm a senior and this is the worst class I have taken. If you can take him online it may be better because you won't have to waste your time by attending his lectures.
All the negative reviews about the professor are hideous. Satpathy cares about his student's success. Class lectures were very important for me to understand the materials, as he used interesting examples in the class. If your goal is to learn the materials, he will be working with you to make sure you understand the materials. Great professor.
Lectures are just overall useless and not needed, they rarely pertain to anything that the class is actually about, He talks way too much and is just very boring overall. WPC 300 is a cakewalk of a class but this professor makes it so much harder and annoying to deal with, take this class online if you can
This class and prof is awful dont take it. Its complicated excel stuff and he doesn't explain anything and just rambles. Avoid him at all costs
Disclaimer: He wasn't my prof BUT his lectures were used by my prof. Anyone saying that he's boring is correct. Lectures hard to follow and Satpathy is a bad lecturer overall.
I just took this class online, and holy crap this is one boring class. I was initially excited to learn about business strategy, but the lectures are extremely dull. Rambles on too much. It's extremely easy given that the everything is open note. They even allow chatGPT on the midterm and final. I didn't take this class seriously.
Getting an A in this class is very easy if you complete all the assignments. I am not sure why people are so upset. This class has helped sharpen up my Excel skills, and assignments were due bi-weekly. He is a very nice guy who is willing to help people outside of class, and there are many resources available online. Don't buy the textbook
I found this class really difficult. Weekly assignments were heavy with less points while final exam and midterm had a lot more points to it. They were really hard which brought my grades down. Professor is quite rude to students and did not help much through email. Good to take it because excel is important but maybe with a different professor.
I took this online so my experience was different (definitely recommend online) but this class was so easy. People that are complaining just can't do excel. Everything is spelled out for you and all assignments were super easy - this class became my fun class and I genuinely looked forward to assignments and could apply everything in my job.
