This professor is extremely difficult to understand & he doesn't use the same examples as the book, so it can be hard to know whether or not you're doing the problems correctly. He can speak English, but his accent is VERY strong.
Has a very strong accent that takes a couple weeks to get used to. He doesnt work with the book AT ALL so it can be very difficult if you dont follow along with the class. He tends to test on topics not covered very well in class, which blows.
get out of the class!!! he cant even say parabola right!!!!!
Leave his class if you are in it...I did. He can't talk, teach, or really anything for that matter. The 'study guide' he gave for tests was to do the problems in the book, which he wouldn't even give us the answers to so we could know if we were right.
Terrible accent, doesn't cover anything in class, expects you to know the book and the course before you take it. If i was to do that i wouldn't spend the hundreds of dollars on tuition to teach myself the class. GET OUT OF HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN>
A teacher who is very hard to understand. I worked really hard in this class, probably enough for an A student and I received a "C". Testing is also extrememly confusing and hard.
Get on the WEBSITE for the book, do the practice quizes over and over until you ace them, and then take his tests. You'll end up far down on the curve enough to get an A. Don't bother coming to lectures--he can't speak English and his attitude sucks.
He is the worst teacher ever. Get out of his class
not helpful and rude
He is hard to understand at first. But, if you try hard you can learn a lot from this class. He has good class note.
HE SUCKS, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO SWITCH TEACHERS.
This class blows! He is sooo hard to understand and all he does is just crack jokes about the dumbest things that has nothing to do with the class. He also expects us to have the whole chapter memorized by the next class. His tests are hard as heck n makes us do way more extra work. Get out!!!
I literally had a gun to my head every class! Good Luck! You cannot understand a word he is saying!
2nd boringest class at ISU. Didn't like this class at all. It is not worth it to go to class; he just talks about what is in the book. I didn't really learn much at all.
He is not early as bad as everyone thinks. He may be hard to understand at first, but you will eventually get it down. He is actually a really nice guy if you take the time to get to know him. If you ask him for help, he will certainly make sure that you understand the topic before you walk out the door. I would recommend him.
worst teacher ever
i hate that man. he is as rude as can be
You can't understand him and he is mean when someone does not understand something.
Nice guy, wanted to help the students but wasn't capable of explaining complex concepts using analagies that natural born americans can understand.(a common problem with foreign teachers) Like I said, he's a nice guy but only teaches the "whats", not the "hows" and the "whys" that are so essential to understanding math and statistics.

Nice guy. Had him for MQM 100 and 227. If you don't understand ask him after class or in ofice hours he is happy to help. TIP: Learn the multiple choice on the web site, TRUST ME
Worst teacher I ever had. Avoid at ALL COSTS!!
Can't understand what he says, goes through his notes like a madman (extremely fast) and does not clarify anything. He thinks he is an astounding teacher, but I think otherwise. Have to attend 70% of classes or you fail automatically. He takes attendance on random days.
I couldn't stand him at all, suffered through one day of class with him and dropped immediately, avoid taking this man, HORRIBLE!
This teacher is bogus. He thinks he is fabulous and he really isn't. His notes are unclear, the website is unclear, and he is unclear. Everytime I went to class, I either wanted to a. Cry b. Raise my hand and ask him to actually start teaching, or c. Get up, throw my book in the garbage, and say f**K it.
Heavy accent...can't understand. Doesn't give examples - just reads slides copied exactly from the book. BUT, it's an easy B or A if you just memorize answers to sample M/C questions, and do sample problems. You have to attend, so study during class, and ignore him. You can do well this way.
avoid at all costs.
He has a heavy accent and he talks really fast. Doesn't explain things well at all. He made me feel dumb when I didnt understand things and called us stupid a few times. He likes to lecture us on how to live life. Makes this class 10x harder than is necesary.
You will need to buy the book to work on problems in class. He grades only on quizzes and tests, but he lets you make a formula sheet for every one. Make sure to go to his class website and study the practice problems, some of them are exactly the same as the test. If you do this, you should easily get a B, if not an "A".
You don't use the book that much, but you will need it. Go to his class website and study the practice problems and you should easily get at least a "B", probably an "A".
Memorize his M.C. practice problems because he puts them straight onto the test. He can sometimes be hard to understand but I had no problem with it. With a good formula sheet his word problems are a piece of cake. Just pay attention to how he does them in class. Can be an easy A if you go to class.
Horrible teacher. You won't understand his accent and if you do, you wont understand his logic and explanation. Makes the class harder than necessary. Practice problems average about 400 questions but you don't need to turn them in. Just need to do it if you want to pass the tests. There are 3 midterms, 1 comprehensive final, 3 quizzes and a projec
horrible teacher. I went to every class, listened and studied everything he put on his site. Didn't help me when I asked and just said I was doing it wrong. AVOID TAKING HIM! I have heard other MQM 227 professors are way better.
I actually really liked having him as a professor. Always willing to help and answer questions,READ THE BOOK!! that'll save you on the tests/quizzes, tests are very straight forward. His accent is strong but its quick to get used to. Studied hard, paid attention in class, got a B(& im terrible at math)so he must be doing something right :)
I went to his class everyday and asked questions when I did not understand. I went to see all my tests for his class. It was so easy just have to study his sample quizzes(some are used on the quiz&test) and study problems done in class! Lets u use a formula sheet on test a big plus sometimes
Absolute hardest class I've taken at ISU. You can go in to his office to ask for help, but he will just tell you to read the book and try harder. The tests are ridiculous. The final is comprehensive over 10 chapters. Without a doubt take another class.
Choudhury is easily the worse teacher I have ever had in college. He expects everyone to understand the material so he is vague and usually does not cover a majority of the material on exams. Asking for help or going to his office hours is pointless bc he avoids helping students at all costs and simply tells you to read the book. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
He's really not as bad as everyone makes him sound. I got an A and I never did anything until right before the tests. He gives you example word and math problems before the test and if you know how to do those you'll be fine. Definitely not the easiest teacher for this course but not horrible.
Overall pretty good professor. Has all the knowledge of the material, but sometimes has trouble getting the message across to the class. Passed without the textbook because he offers A LOT of practice problems on his website and they are usually the same questions that will be on the tests. Extra credit for going to every class.
Very hard, confusing, & time consuming class. Be prepared for LOTS of work. He told me you need to spend 2-3 hours per day on this intro stats class. I ended up dropping out to take MQM 100 instead. He is willing to work with you, but you have to put in a lot of effort.
Hard to understand at first but you get used to it after a few classes. Overall much harder than the other professors but you will learn alot. Quizzes and online homeworks are easy points and there are 10 points of extra credit if you attend every class.
Definitely deserves way higher than a 1.8. He teaches the (easy) material very straightforward. Powerpoints to explain the concepts, then a problem related to the chapter. Tests are identical to homework problems and are online. He's Indian so sometimes there is a language barrier but just ask him to explain something again and he will clear it up.
I think he was a great teacher. A little hard to understand due to a heavy accent but the exams were all online and followed the exact examples done in class. As long as you show up you will do well.
not terrible, the accent is tough in the beginning. he goes over the example problems that are on the homework, all tests are online. not terrible, if accents are tough for you do not take.
His lectures are just more confusing power points than the book. There are reggie net quizzes for every chapter as well as Wiley Plus homework. You had two chances for both but Reggienet made the second harder and Wiley deducts points for 2nd try and help. He's also not too much help when it comes to explaining the concepts.
He can be hard to understand but give him a chance. His homework is exact examples of all of those that you do in class. Learn them and remember them for the exams, because it's the same thing. Quizzes on powerpoint are easy, just refer to it for exact answers. Attendance is key as you will have all the example problems for tests/homework.
He's hard to understand in the beginning but it gets easier. You need to go to his lectures and you also get 10 extra credit if you make them all. His examples in class are the EXACT examples for the homework and tests. Go to class, do the examples, reference pages and examples and you'll pass with flying colors.
If you attend all classes, you receive 10 extra credit points at the end. He is more than willing to help. All of your homework and tests are online, and are pretty easy if you keep up with the material. Those who struggle are those who don't attend the class. He is probably one of the best to take for this course.
Very difficult to understand! All tests, homework and quizzes were online. The tests became more and more difficult as you went on. If you can avoid him do so!
Overall I dont suggest this course with this specific teacher. He has a thick accent but really helps you if you ask him after class or during office hours. He truly wants you to learn the material even if he doesnt seem like it in class. Overall he does mean well but the material is difficult to understand on your own without additional help.
Assigns homework in bulk between tests, you don't really need to show up to class if you take your time doing the homework and make sure you really understand it, but I would recommend it. The tests are online, with the first part being multiple choice and generally really easy, the second part is a bit more difficult, but often based on homework.
Doesn't fully understand his course and the material shows that. There's no point to go to class, as his tests are over the homework. Don't buy the book, just understand the homework and you'll be in for an easy B.
He is great as a person, not so much as a professor. He is hard to understand and the class is very tough especially if you don't go to class. Basically a stats class.
Dr. Choudhury's class is basically monkey see, monkey do. He demonstrates the questions that you'll see on the hw, and then asks the class to try an example on their own. The tests are online, with one part being MC and the other part is on OMLab. He takes attendance every class period and offers extra credit if you come to every class.
Provides insights to many relevant and useful operations management practices. Has practical experience and has done consulting work for large companies. Must pay close attention as he has a thick accent, but he is one of the best professors that Ive had.
He's not a bad professor, but the class is poorly set up. You essentially copy the examples he does in class, and plug that into the homework and tests, all of which are online (Reggienet and MyLab.) He also creates an expensive, custom textbook you have to buy to properly understand the examples. Extra credit for perfect attendance, though.
Lectures are very boring, but can be helpful if you pay attention to the example problems. If you don't work on the problem during class, he will stand over you until you either figure it out or ask a question. He runs a strict class, but as long as you do the homework and study the problems, the tests aren't that bad. Overall, boring class.
This teacher was horrible. The test are online, ReggieNet is easy, but the Pearson Lab is extremely challenging. The online tests and homeworks have multiple parts which takes hours to complete. On the test, no partial credit is given. The book is about $230 and is needed but the examples in the book are not very helpful for test or homework. NO!
I recommend Dr. Choudhury's 4 wk summer class online. There was 4 tests every Thur., online hw was due prior to the tests. Tests were 2 parts 20 RN mc questions worth 40% and 6 word problems worth 60%. RN mc was easy, word problems were often the same as the hw ?'s with different numbers. Hw can be long but he has RN practice ?'s that are the same.
I surprisingly enjoyed this class. I normally am not a math guy, but Dr C did a good job explaining it. GO TO CLASS because he goes over almost identical problems that are on the homework and the tests
Choudhury doesn't deserve the bad rap he's gotten. The class doesn't require much work or studying. Go to class, take notes, and use the notes for the online exams. He has his class set up so it's impossible to fail the exams if you go to class, take solid notes, and practice when he gives you the time. Great guy, very caring, very intelligent.
Online summer course, fairly easy to get through. Many examples are online to assist. Two tests per section for 8 total. One is very much math oriented and the other is comprehension. Essentially you can get 100% on the comprehension and 60% on the math and still pass easy if you do the homework which he gives many examples on.
Attendance is part of your grade, easiest part of the class. The class is almost entirely lecture-based, with a powerpoint that is talked about at the beginning and then examples that relate to the homework. This class is extremely difficult, and most of the class was lost. He is difficult to understand at times and the program simio is difficult.
One of the most confusing classes I have ever taken and I am someone who usually applies himself in class, so this is saying a lot. If you like a class that continues on to other chapter material before the original chapter is even fully comprehended this is the class for you. This class is excel heavy, and not very explained well. AVOID IF YOU CAN
literally the worst teacher I've ever had. His homework goes into so much detail that he does not teach you in class. I would rather get his by bus than go to his lectures. avoid avoid avoid
This is actually the worst class I have taken in my entire life. Askar is a horrible teacher and makes learning the material as difficult and confusing as possible. He also will not help you or answer questions on the homework. It is honestly laughable how bad of a professor this guy is, AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS
Guys. When I say this class is set up like a GRADUATE level course, I am NOT KIDDING. This is a mandatory class for Bus. Admin majors and is the only prof offered. My advisor said that there were MULTIPLE complaints about him and the class MAKES NO SENSE. He is most confusing prof I have ever had. If this is an optional class for you, DO NOT TAKE!!
This class is horrible. Operations analytics is a difficult subject but it is ten times worth with a professor who does an awful job teaching the material. You will be confused all the time. There have been a significant number of complaints made in the past and nothing has been done. Make friends with people in class and help each other.
I cannot stress this enough when I say avoid this class at all costs. An absolute nightmare of a teacher. The dullest of lectures with his very dry and unentertaining voice makes it very hard to follow. Since COVID-19 hit also, the class has been even more difficult. Simio is very difficult to understand and thefinal project will leave headaches.
This has got to be the worst class I have ever taken. This professors stumbles over his words , mumbles and plainly does not clearly teach an already hard subject well. A majority of the term is just spent helping each other out, because everyone is equally as confused. I CANNOT stress this enough do not take this class if its not needed!
Since the link to course evaluations that he gave us was broke and he didnt fix it, Ill voice my frustrations here. He is very arrogant and you might as well not even ask him any questions because he will just demean you and make it known hes smarter than you. Does a terrible job of explaining material and doesnt care if youre struggling. AVOID
I had the opportunity to take Professor Choudhury for an online course this past Spring. This was definitely one of the harder online courses that I had to take, but I learned a lot and did well in the class. If you plan on taking his online class, go over the PowerPoints, lectures, and computational problems heavily.
I personally did not like this class. A handful of questions on the exam were not on the practice problems nor quizzes. I studied for a good amount of time throughout the week and still did not do well on the math portion of the exam. I suggest doing a lot of practice problems. He did not respond to a forum question I had but he is a quick grader.
Professor Choudhury is very knowledgeable about the courses he teaches and was relatively easy to access outside of class. However, his teaching style and lack of guidance in projects and homework was very challenging. The group project he expects and wants you to create is very confusing and hard from what he gives you.
Dr Choudhury is the worst prof Ive ever had. He acts arrogant about what hes teaching but I has no idea what is going on. He gets mad when his students dont understand something. He picked the pretty blonde girl as his favorite and doesnt care about the rest. I have never dropped a class but almost dropped this one if it wasnt required.
WOW is this class tough; however, a lot of the assignments, including final project, are group based, so help each other out! You start the semester with Excel, which isn't horrible. The second half is Simio and it's bad. Aim to kill it on the exams because he is a lenient grader on the HW. Avoid if you aren't in BA. Stressful, but it's possible!
Askar is one of my favorite professors here at ISU. He really cares about the students and makes sure that they understand the course material. He is always available to meet outside of class even on the weekends. Grades in a timely matter and has a great but dry sense of humor. MQM335 was the last class that I took at ISU and it sure was the best.
HORRIBLE. All the bad reviews are true. Had zero social life my senior year because of him. Excel the first 8 weeks which was fine and then Simio the last 8. Good luck with questions because everything is "common sense", so he is no help. I had a good group that's the only reason I passed. The 4 few weeks we were in the lab all day stressed.
Awful professor. Hardest class Ive ever taken. He doesnt explain things and if you ask for help he just says its common sense. Pray you get in a good group and can help each other. Sadly, he is the only professor for the course and it is required for BA majors. He is awful.
Horrible professor and massive waste of time. Spends the majority of the lecture going through example problems that makes no intuitive sense to anyone but him. Learned nothing and spent the entire semester copy pasting from the examples. The university knows it is a horrible class but won’t do anything about it.
Excel the first half of the semester which isn't that bad. Simio the second half and its awful. If you have a bad group like I did, you're pretty much screwed. Make friends in the class so you can help each other out. The final project is a nightmare. Very difficult class. Choudhury is accessible outside of class which is helpful.
YIKES. all I gotta say, just happy I passed. Do not wait for your last semester of school to take this class if you can. Excel was super easy. SIMIO..... pray you get a good group. I got stuck with a terrible group and struggled in this class at the end. Really aim to kill it on exams if you want to pass the class.
Dr. Choudhury gets a lot of negative reviews on here, and knowing that I was pretty apprehensive coming into this class. Similar to several other professors I've had, he was not nearly as bad as many of the ratings would lead me to believe. If you're willing to engage and put forth the necessary effort, you will do well in this class.
I was honestly scared to take this class because of all the bad reviews. This does class suck, but the reviews lead me to believe it was much worse than it actually is. If you are willing to put in the work, you will do fine in this class. A lot of group work so be be prepared and help each other out! In person quizzes, but tests were online.
First half of the semester was easy on Excel, but Simio can be difficult. I often emailed him to ask questions. Homework and projects are done with people in your row, which is alphabetical. Not a terrible class, but not explained well. 2 exams online that are 3 parts each. Make sure to try hard, pay attention, participate, and watch his videos.
Honestly, this class wasn't as bad as I thought. Yes, its difficult at times, and directions were sometimes unclear, especially for the group project. The first half focuses on Excel but when the Simio portion begins, I highly recommend following along with the videos. If you get a good group and stay on top of things, you should be fine.Goodluck
bro is cheeks, teaches nothing - hope you like learning on your own
This is a very difficult class with a lot of challenging homework/project, And he doesn't explain how to do any of it because he has a hard time speaking clear English. Sucks this class is mandatory for graduation. If it wasn't I would have dropped it the first day of class.
Professor cant speak that well english, first half is excel 2nd half is simio, changed exam from online to paper a week before 2nd exam and changed the sylabus. Good luck with him.
One of the most unprofessional professors I've ever had. I'm going to be taking action. Here are 2 examples of askar chouder 1. Entire class takes the quiz and finishes early. Askar chouder makes you wait til class is done to leave. 2. He makes you present some bs but he also wants you to record yourself presenting it and send it to him.
The fact this dude has a doctorate is mind blowing. He sucks at his job... ISU needs to cut professors like this to pay the good ones more. I can walk away from this class 100% confident that I gained nothing from this class.
Doesn't speak English, confusing, cant understand. Believe the bad reviews they are not lying. Just don't take do yourself a favor
ALL THE BAD REVIEWS ARE TRUE!! SAVE YOURSELF!
JUST GET YOUR BOTTLE READY! STRESSED ME OUT HORRIBLE PROFESSOR.. CHANGED EXAM FROM ONLINE TO INPERSON A WEEK PRIOR WHILE ALSO MAKING US HAVE HOMEWORK, EXAM, AND FINAL PAPER DUE DURING THE SAME WEEK. NEEDS TO BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY !
This teacher is by FAR the worst I've had in my 4 years of college. He can't speak english, and if you get placed at the back of the class, you will not be able to hear him. You have to hope you get a good group in your row and you guys just need to work amongst eachother. Exam got flipped from online to written a week prior to testing date. Absurd
Not gonna lie this class is pretty terrible but it's not as bad as everyone is saying. If you know how to use a computer even slightly you'll get through it just fine
If you don't get a good group at the beginning of the year you're done for. All HW is done with them. First half of semester is excel which wasn't too bad and last half is simio & goodluck with that. In class weekly quizzes. Big project at the end of semester to present. Directions aren't very clear for anything. Spent the most time on this class.
Hard to understand, bad at explaining material, tough grader.
Needlessly unclear and difficult class. Despite being very knowledgeable about the course material, he often seemed bothered if you asked him for help. The tests are hard as well, and the study materials he gives you don't really reflect what will be on the test. But if you keep your head down and get a good group, you'll be alright.
Worst class I've taken in college. Homework is not hard but it's all group work. Groups are chosen alphabetically by last name. Final project is the vaguest project I have ever been assigned, ask him a ton of questions to make sure you are doing it correctly because the outline tells you almost nothing. this class sucks but you can make it through.
Hard to understand and does not explain things very well. All homework is group work and groups are decided by the teacher, so hopefully you get a good group. Lots of excel and this software called simio, which is like rocket science. Overall would not reccomend
The worst class at ISU. Not only is all the material pointless, hard to understand , and filled with useless programs like Simio, the teacher is awful. You can barely understand a word he says, and he doesn't teach a thing. He reads off his notes and murmurs things while just doing the work on the projector. The "project" is horrible, good luck.
