Great Teacher, but hard to follow if your not interested in technology or computers. Not a class to take if your looking for an easy A.
This guy doesn't know what he is doing! He is late every day and is very unorganized when teaching. Hard to understand and the projects are unexplained-when you ask about them he doesn't know the answers. Its like he is teaching somebody elses material and he doesn't really know what he is teaching
you can try and argue questions/grades on tests with him and he'll usually give u a few extra points, but that's no help if you failed the test because he never went over the material, he is always late and unorganized and gives projects over stuff he's supposed to teach, but tells u to learn how to do it on ur own, i wanted to take this class too
Horrible teacher...doesn't teach you anything except right from the power points from the book. Tests are on random questions and the projects are not explained by him at all. When you ask questions he says it is part of the assignment for you to figure it out, awful
The worst prof I've had at GVSU. He lectures the entire class over the book's powerpoint slides, then tests and quizes you on random, unimportant, irrelevent quetions. When you ask him questions it seems like he has no idea what he's talking about. Avoid this prof at all costs.
Very soft-spoken. Needs to speak up. Doesn't have control over the class. Students don't listen and are disrespectful. Assignments aren't explained well. But he'll recap assignments if you don't know what the hell's going on (which is most of the time). Great guy though.
He is very difficult to understand, particularly in a class with lots of jargon and acronyms used on a daily basis. He's hard to listen to for long. However, a lot of the exams are based on random computer facts he mentions during lecture. The projects are easy and save your grade. Don't take this prof unless you have a great attention span.
a really nice guy but is way too quiet. its really hard to pay attention and his tests and exams are not really based on what is studied in class. make sure you don't skip because a huge portion of his grade is attendance.
He is really soft spoken but has interesting things to say. I found that the best way to study for the midterm and final was to go through the multiple choice questions at the end of the chapters in the book and also review the powerpoint slides he posts on BB that have practice multiple choice questions (a lot of the questions are the same).
I don't know why people hate him, yes he is quiet and is hard to understand, but as long as you pay attention and take notes you will be fine, I got a 97% in this course and didn't open the book once. His final has MANY questions from midterm and quizzes. Projects were free points. If you don't know computers find someone who does and befriend them
Talks very quietly and has a slight accent, which makes him difficult to understand at times. Willing to help if you have questions. Participation/Attendance is huge portion of grade. If you show up to every class it should do well.
Let me help your semester: Do not take him! I'm an A student. Yet could not pay attention to save my life in this class. Nice guy, though!
He speaks very quietly and with an accent, its often very difficult to hear him. He assigns several projects dealing with software that he has never talked about in class or talked about it very little, and he is very unhelpful when you ask him questions about the projects. Uses powerpoints from the book manufacturer that are always over 75 slides
Mumbles with his accent, but is otherwise understandable. Is highly knowledgeable in his field. Assigns more work than my other MTG268 instructor, but this helps with overall grade over the other class. I sometimes wondered if he understood my comments, concerns, questions fully. I wouldn't recommend him, however the class is doable.
This guy is really easy. It's true that he is hard to understand, however his exams are extremely easy as are his projects. Take Aslam for this class! Other profs are way harder in thi class, I got an A with minimal effort.
He's a really nice guy, class is boring though. Uses a mic b/c he's really soft spoken and has accent but if you pay attention you can understand him. Class was pretty easy an easy A with a little effort.
Nice guy. It takes a while to get used to his accent and he is really quiet so sit close. He posts all the powerpoints but class is still mandatory. Dont buy either of the books, you'll never use them. Lots of group projects, easy class overall
Means well, but has a tough accent to understand. Has lots of group projects. Good prof in general.
Professor Modak is extremely unclear. His accent and whispering voice are almost impossible to hear, even with the microphone he uses during class. He was not very helpful during the big projects during the year. He generally avoided answering questions. Class was more often boring than not, but that could have just been the material.
Repetitive but true: he gives projects and does not explain them whatsoever. He uses a mic and still you cannot understand him. Study the powerpoints on your own and you'll do fine. Attendance is also a big factor, worth as many points as the midterm!
Overall, a pretty good professor. Reviews below are right on, but the class isn't difficult nor is it hard to understand him. Project need clarity. Not a bad class although I was 1/10th of a point to an A and he didn't round it; I still forgive! him.
Great professor. I liked him alot. He really went above and beyond to ensure that I reached my goal. I can never thank him enough!
Super nice guy, he is really enthusiastic in his lectures but he talks very quietly. Make sure to sit in front of class so you can hear him. Rather easy class, he explains things well. He doesn't really keep good control of the students, half the class is on facebook the whole time.
The class is easy, but bring something to do or study the book during class. Mandatory attendance is the only reason I show up, and I am still getting an A by reading the power point slides he gives us.
Very soft voice. hard to understand. Not very clear about material. would not advise someone to take him
He's a nice guy and sets up real world work environment projects. Difficult class to pay attention in, but if you study, and do the projects, no reason to not get an A or A- in the class. He is hard to understand at first, but as the semester goes along, you get used to it. I recommend him if you take what I just stated seriously.
He is hard to understand at first just make sure you ask him to repeat himself and he doesn't get mad. Most of the class is off powerpoint while he posts on bb. Not a hard class as long as you do the projects well.
Very hard to listen to, and hard to hear. Couldn't pay attention to save my life.
He has a very quiet voice. Easy class. Three projects, a presentation, a few quizzes, and the final. Not bad at all.
Lays out expectations clearly. Go to class and listen. Easy A.
If you get a good group for the 3 ridiculous projects you will probably be fine. (I did not) Honestly, sitting in class I found myself thinking almost daily that it was not worth it. He hardly teaches, pp's, and then has students present technology "news" that has nothing to do with MIS. Class was also really disorganized at times.
He grades very strict, especially on group projects and has you do things on access and "SAP" that are difficult to figure out. Our first group project took 15 hrs to do, we got an A but still the work load is insane. Then he gives you a project on access, which if you don't know how to use it, it's frustrating. Get a good group, and you'll be fine
He does not explain what he wants for assignments, the test have material from out of nowhere, he is very confusing, and he is picky with the assignments. The only good thing about the course is that it is not Electrical Engineering.
I've had good professors, bad professors, and then there's Aslam Modak. He is quite possibly the worst professor I'll ever have. His "instructions" are unclear and inconsistent. I've received no help from him, for when students ask for clarification, he tells us to ask another student. no help. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. TRUST ME
Aslam Modak is the most unclear and unorganized professor i have ever had. His test are very unfair in that the questions are worded very poorly and some content is not what we learned in class. Grades awkwardly, impossible to understand, and unwilling to help or reason with students. You will regret taking this professor, i guarantee it.
Very hard to understand, very soft spoken. You almost have to beg for help on the projects and material. He does this "In the News" assignment that is very pointless and has nothing to do with the class. Grading is pretty tough and tests are horribly written, if you want to get a good grade in the class you almost have to be a CIS or MIS Major.
Hard to understand but willing to help his students. Would take his class again.
Prof Modak is atrocious. The worst professor I've ever had. *Took this online* No clarification, eternally slow to respond to emails. No instruction for projects, offers no help. Requires on campus meetings (online class, remember?). Late distributing material. Exams & Quizzes you get under 1 min per question. Do not take, not even online. Horrible
seemed very unorganized even though he has taught this class before many times. He does not explain what the projects are about so you have to figure out by yourself! Sometimes his lectures don't make sense.
Aslam Modak was one of the best professors I've ever had. He is truly a nice guy and wants his students to do well. His lectures were engaging and interesting. I would definitely recommend taking him for MGT 268.
Very clear in what he wants. He has an accent, but to me it was easy to understand. I didn't really even read the textbook (please don't do this) & I still got an A. Listen & take a lot of notes and you'll be fine.
Aslam Modak is a good dude. He genuinely WANTS his students to succeed, but just doesn't know how to achieve that through teaching. He gave little to no instructions for the group projects, is never clear about what he wants, and isn't very helpful. If this class wasn't so easy, It would've been impossible. Easy class. Do the work and study a bit.
Professor Modak is a nice guy, he really is. I could tell that he really cared about this topic and he seemed to know a lot about the material. BUT you have to pay attention to everything he says, take good notes, and make friends with the people around you. Group projects are tough, tests/exams are timed. Be prepared to ask for help!
Hard to understand and gives a lot of homework. Also has some pointless assignments like a "in the news" presentation.
This prof is dang near impossible to hear/understand, which makes the random projects he assigns us very difficult to complete. Also, you will have to do a 5 minute presentation on something that has nothing to do with what we learn. Try to avoid taking this prof if you can; the class isn't impossible, it's just more difficult than it should be.
Taking this doesn't have to be your longest yeah boy ever. It can be your shorter yeah boy ever. Just don't waste your yeah boy.
He was a fine professor if you just put in a little effort. There were group projects that were a pain, but every professor that teaches this class will have to do the same thing. Go to class, takes notes, do your work and it's an easy class. I do suggest sitting towards the front of the classroom because he speaks quietly.
Modak is a G. He is a little hard to understand, but he will make sure that you do. The class reminds me of CIS. You learn how to use some programs on the computer. Modak has the best stories and you can tell he knows what he is doing and is teaching for fun. You have a couple group projects but they are not too bad.
Prof. Modak is nice enough, the class is just boring. There are big group projects that aren't too bad, but if you don't have a good team there's not much you can do about it. He's not the most helpful when you have problems but if you follow instructions exactly you don't run into too many. Also docks 10 pts for every class missed after the first.
At times Professor Modak can be a little hard to understand, but his lectures go pretty slow so it is not much of an issue. I would take him again if I had the chance.
If you have to take MGT 268, take it with Modak. There is a ton of work to do in six weeks, but Modak is very forgiving and gives you chances to improve your grades on projects and papers. I would take him again.
Professor Modak was okay. For my class, it was point based so it was very easy to get a good grade on the projects if you have a good team that will work together and communicates well. His test and quizzes were hard though.
One of the WORST classes I have ever taken. He was not clear about homework assignments, for big group projects the requirements for the assignment made no sense as to what he was telling us in class. Asking questions is a no go, you'll end up more confused than enlightened. As far as attendance, you better be there or you'll probably fail.
Very very tough grader. I didn't understand most of the lectures. I would read but he is very quiet and hard to understand. I didn't like the class period. Way to many projects and very bad due dates. Projects were started even in the middle of other projects
Professor Modak is a nice guy. Class attendance is mandatory. The class material is easy but the first half is fast paced with many projects and assignments and his grading criteria is often not very clear. Asking questions and getting answers can be an issue. If you keep up with the materials in the lecture and book you will do well on everything.
This professor actually cares.. he is sometimes hard to understand but if he can see your trying and coming to class ... you will get a great grade. Tests in this class are taken fully online at home (no time to cheat they go fast) but to be honest even if you fail every single test and quiz as long as you do good on the projects you can still pass
Horrible direction for projects, absolutely awful. This class was so frustrating because he never explained projects and when you asked questions, he would not be helpful. He also talks so quietly that you cannot hear from from 1 foot away.
I thought Professor Modak was a good professor and his class got much better throughout the semester. He is a really nice guy who wants to see you succeed and understand the material. Lectures are a little dry but he tells you everything you need to know for quizzes and tests. If he sees that you are putting in the effort, you'll be fine.
Modak is a very friendly man, clearly cares for the students and wants you to do great. Liked him as a person, didn't like him as a teacher. The lectures were very boring and there were too many projects and busy work. Overall, I'd say he's a mediocre teacher. Not to mention MGT 268 just wasn't my type of class, so that kind of played a role.
I took this class as a hybrid and Professor Modak was really nice although he wasn't the best professor. His lectures are very dry and I am oftentimes left confused about what is expected from me. There are also quite a few group projects in the class which did not work out very well for me (or a lot of the other students who took this class).
He is very hard to understand when lecturing. Multiple assignments that take 2-5 hours at a time to finish. Unorganized with documents and projects. His tests are extremely hard even if you study and do the LearnSmarts.
I had the hybrid version of this class, Modak taught the lab portion that was once a week. He is sometimes hard to understand but it's not too bad. The only people that don't like him are the ones that didn't show up to the once a week class, as Modak would get upset with them. If you're there every week and work, you'll get a high A.
Always late to class, very hard to understand, doesn't understand everything you say which makes explanations harder, and is hard to get emails back from.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Late to every class by up to 10 minutes, or 20% of a 50 minute class. Attendance is worth 10% of your grade which seems outrageous considering his appalling punctuality. Lots of homework, dreadful organisation and exams are much harder than the content taught in class. I like SAP and MIS, do not like this professor.
I only had him for the lab portion of Management 268. He was very accessible outside of class, you can even call or text his cellphone. I wish I would have sat close to the front though because he is soft spoken and difficult to hear.
As long as you actually try you'll get a good grade in the class. He's very understanding and is willing to help no matter what.
This may have not been the most difficult professor ever, but he was the most frustrating. He contradicted himself and had no idea what was going on half the time. Nice enough guy but going to this class was the worst part of my week since he was absolutely ridiculous and acted like he'd never taught before. Ask anyone, this prof is horrible
This professor is extremely confusing and lacks the patience that allows students to learn. I would not recommend taking up this professor at all.
Don't give up on him in the beginning. He will be frustrating and hard to understand at first but he gets better. He doesn't reply to emails quickly and sometimes gets mad if you ask too many questions. Grades very easy and gives pretty clear criteria. Be prepared to spend a lot of money. 2 books, 1 access code, and 1 top hat code
Professor Modak is really hard to understand, and gets frustrated when you ask too many questions. I never skipped class and I still found myself confused. Lots of projects with tight due dates. He never responds to his emails, you have to email the same question multiple times to get an answer. If you can avoid taking this class with him, do it.
Professor Modak is very hard to understand and extremely unclear in directions. He is slow to get back to you in emails, and often delivers unclear responses. Assignments have unclear directions. Group projects are unorganized. I have a friend in the same course with a different professor, and she is having a wonderful experience. Do not take.
Prof. Modak is really understanding and more than willing to help you figure out any problems you have with your homework. The class can feel stressful and there is quite a bit of homework, but hes very helpful. One of the best professors Ive had through college.
Great guy who cares about his students. Learned a lot from this class and it was not too challenging.
Aslam is very disorganized and his directions are not clear. For your MGT 268 class, avoid him. Just take my advice its not worth it.
Professor Modak has a no-good response time. It takes him forever to respond. The earliest that he will respond is within the upcoming week. Also, he doesn't clear up any questions that students have for the class. If i was you if you want to take this class, make sure it is not with him. You will regret it.
Professor Modak is great. He is one of the best people I have ever had as a professor. He truly cares about his students and he will help them in any way possible. I highly recommend taking his classes, they are very relevant to the business world and his assignments are always relevant to the course.
Great prof, has a thick accent but its easy to get used to. explains everything well and really easy to follow. You do most of the work in class so its not alot of extra work. It was a hybrid, he was the lab instructor and it really helped my grade when combined with lecture portion
Professor Modak was great! He is a big hard to understand because of his accent, but is very helpful to his students. Project criteria is very clear. Make sure you pick a good group. The whole class is project based.
Any time you ask a question, be prepared for a rude and stoic response.
Great for helping and answering questions, has a thick accent but he does his best to explain.
You have a couple weeks where you have a TON of work but it its all easy, busy work. He is not a good professor when it comes to posting things (every quiz he posted 10-16 hours after he said he would.) He also uses other profs videos when it comes to the group assignments. The group projects are set up where each week you have a certain part to do
I genuinely enjoyed this course. I believe I am going to be pursuing an MIS emphasis. However, professor Modak in no way contributed to this. He was in charge of the lab portion of the course. He is incredibly disorganized, constantly changing due dates and assignments around and slow to respond.
Hes a good guy but his accent is very thick, takes a while to get used to. Overall an easy class, and if you dont understand he will explain until you do. Hes very nice and cares that you understand. EASY GRADER
Professor Modak is one of my favorite professors at GVSU. As long as you put in the work, you will succeed and learn a lot in this class. He makes sure that you turn every assignment in and is very attentive through email. If you need any sort of help or an extension, he is very willing and generous with his help. Overall, great professor!
Really nice guy. We always had assignments due on Sunday nights and I once contacted him very last minute asking for help and he was willing to set up a zoom meeting with me. Hes very knowledgeable and good at answering questions. My only complaint is that the class was a lot of work.
The first project is a group and then its all solo work. Not super hard. If you are confused about something and just ask Prof Modak will help. He always was asking in class to make sure we understood everything. Make sure to go to class to listen to him talk or the projects will be close to impossible. Not super clear grading criteria.
Very possibly the worst professor I've ever taken. I would rather sleep on a bed of glass shards than ever take this professor again. Hard to understand, unnecessarily tough grader, and the rudest professor I've ever had. Snarky comments and "pftttts" galore. What should be an incredibly easy class, is made difficult by him. 0/10
Probably one of the worst professors I have ever taken here at GVSU. He has absolutely no right of being a college professor where we are spending money to learn from him. He explains literally nothing, gives smart remarks back, and a heavy accent, so hard to understand. Avoid this guy with all costs, he is HORRIBLE.
Please whatever you do, do NOT take this man. The class is not hard at all but he makes it extremely difficult. Every time you come to class you will leave more confused than you were before. He has a heavy accent and there is a 100% a language barrier, especially with the masks. You will regret your decision if you take this course with Aslam.
Modak is all over the place in class leaving every student confused. I don't think I've learned a single thing from his lectures. He grades tough and he will tell you to meet with him in class then won't even give you the time of day. He did not follow the course syllabus at all, he added random projects and multiple quizzes each week.
Professor Modak is very hard to understand, and will leave you more confused then when you started. He will not answer your questions, and usually return it with another question. The assignments are very disorganized and always contain errors. DO NOT take him if you are able!!
Prof. Modak was at times hard to understand but unlike most teachers, everything you have to do will be done in class. a very project heavy class
This class is project heavy but it's not hard by any means. If you show up to class and follow along you will do just fine. He can be hard to understand at times but he does his best to make everyone is on the same page. If you have questions he will always help you or tell you where to look for answers.
Professor Modak is a great professor who goes out of his way to help every student. He wants every student to succeed and you can really tell. If you are ever lost on assignments, like I was, just ask, and the professor will help.
Do not take this Professor. He is very disrespectful and makes you feel stupid when you have a question.
Modak teaches the class as if you know some things already. He's not as mean as everyone says he is, he's just straightforward. He's willing to listen and answer your questions but may take slight offense if it sounds like you weren't paying attention in class. Given lots of time to complete project in class.
Hes not an awful person and means well by what he teaches. The challenging part is he doesnt tell you whats due or when its due. The whole class is a guessing game will whats due. When you ask him a question he wont necessarily answer it but will make you go back and look for it. This class is heavy on projects so get ready to get lost.
He is a nice guy and he means well but he does not know how to instruct students on the tasks at hand. He flies through the very difficult information for beginners at his own pace as he has worked with this material as a career. He is EXTREMELY difficult to understand and half the words he says you will have no clue what he's saying.
Graded on time, explained grading systems well. Walked through homework in class
This professor does not care about his students and there success. Dudes handwriting sucks and barely speaks English. Really mean. Take only if you want to fail
He means well, he really does, but I feel that he does not take the full time to help his students understand the concept at hand. The Blackboard page is a mess of information on each weekly content page that you can't help but get lost. There is not a calendar of what is actually due and when, and he doesn't clearly explain due dates.
Professor Modak was by far the worst professor I've ever had. Not only does he provide useless feedback, he is not very helpful if you don't understand the material. I would not recommend taking any of his classes.
Yes, after reading Professor Modak's reviews I was alarmed. With this being said, all you need to do is pay attention in class. Sit in the front of the class so you can hear. He guides you through all assignments and offers plenty of extra credit. He is always available for help and is really a very kind person.
Profesor Modak has been one of the few amazing professor's I've had. He walks through the homework during class and he's very accessible outside the class if we need any help on the homework. He is also a fast grader and will give feedback with an opportunity to resubmit assignments. Would definitely take again.
Really nice guy who was really good at teaching.
He is a great Professor would recommend you taking him.
Professor Modak really cares about the success of his students and is very passionate about the course that he teaches. However, he can be difficult to understand and grading criteria can be convoluted with limited flexibility on confusion. If you are not good at learning on your own then be cautious. But by no means should you not take the class.
He can be hard to understand but if you come to class and do the work, its hard to not get close to 100%. Hes funny and I liked having him as a professor.
Overall, the class was very easy if you participated and stayed on top of all your work. It was a little difficult to understand professor Modak through his accent but if you had questions, he was willing to discuss further. He meant well and only wanted majority of his students to pass. Plenty of extra credit and his grading was very lenient.
