Her lectures in breakout are very good and make everything easy to understand. She explains everything that needs to be done in the lab so that you can be successful. She has a few quizzes to test your knowledge that she puts in as extra credit which is a nice boost to your grade. She is however, a pretty tough grader on the lab write ups.
There are 8 50-point lab reports in the class, each requires several hours to complete and are graded harshly. She has a thick accent when teaching, and her handwriting is sloppy. You get extra credit if you attend every lab. The final exam are impossible essay questions and the study guide given does not prepare you. Take a different professor.
Very tough.
The class was tough but she was always ready to explain , Very caring professor wants her students to excel. I have taken other profs earlier but Dr Kane was the most helpful and her explanation style is great. I recommend her strongly!
Great teacher. I took Chemistry before but never liked it. Her class made me change my opinion and Im deciding to take more classes. Taking her this semester also! Read every word in the syllabus she truly follows that . Very knowledgeable. Get ready to be regular at study otherwise you will lose her.
Great Prof! She truly cares that her students understand and succeed. Get ready to read before her lectures and be regular with study .Gives analogies and explains well . Truly enjoyed her class!
Very good command on subject and has a very good style of explaining with lots of real life analogies that truly helps understand her. Powerpoints are also nice. IT is a tough coursework and fast paced class but dont ignore her tips and stretegies on how to study . I followed her tips and have improved my grades and like her class.
Great class and prof is good at explaining things. No nonsense class, she truly follows what she says in her syllabus. Don't miss classes else you will not catch up . She was very helpful to explain things. Pay attention to her tips and you will do well!
Nice !!! Learned more in her lab than in my lecture class. Very knowledgeable and she truly wants you to understand and succeed. Loved her lab class!!
Thanks Dr. Kane for wonderful semester! Really a good prof. Liked her teaching a lot.
Great teacher! Was truly lucky to have got her as my Chem prof. Im sad she doesnt teach CHM151 in spring so will wait till Fall to take her class again!
Here lectures are so fast and doesn't work anything in detail to be honest and doesn't help the students to study for exams and doesn't give any study guides. Tells us to study using homework but then randomly tests us on concepts not even covered in class. I didn't like her class at all. Did my best but her 25 question exams are really absurd.
Nice prof! Her lectures before the lab clear the concepts very well. If you are late in the start of lab, you miss a lot. Has clear points for grading lab report and if you follow her grading rubric, you can get good grades on lab reports. ALso very helpful -always there in the lab and wants to make sure everyone is following the class stuff.
She does lot of class work doing problem solving which truly helped clear the concepts. She helps if you are stuck. Powerpoints are available beforehand. Dont miss any lectures. She covers so much that if you miss a class there is no catching up!!
I thank Dr. Kane for inspiring me to complete my semester . I had so many problems propping up at work that I was falling behind and about to drop but Dr. Kane stuck it out with me and helped me in every way and gave time to complete my assignments. I am so grateful.
Great Prof! Loved her teaching and signed up for her class in Fall again! She truly wants everyone to understand the class work. Very good explanations with lots of analogies. There is lots of class work and practice in her class. so, if you miss classes, you will lose her!
Super teacher! Explains things very well-her class is a good mix of lecture and class practice. Signed up for her class again this sem. It definitely helps to be regular and follow her tips. She does a bunch of undergraduate research like writing paper. Dont miss her class and helps to read ahead.
This professor is very condescending if you ask any questions. She talks FAST with a heavy accent that is hard to understand. She continually told us to "drop the class" if you don't understand. I earned an A in spite of her teaching style, thanks to Youtube. I would never take a course from her again.
I had MsKane for CHM130 lecture Fall18, and I will be taking CHM151 in Spring20. She speaks perfect English, has a lovely accent, and great analogies that makes chemistry easy to understand. Homewrk can be turned in by end of day at Chem department with timestamp. Highly recommended! Do the extra credit! She DOES do a studyguide similar to exams.
Dr. Kane is a great teacher always ready to explain when approached! I honestly understand Chemistry concepts better when she explains in her lab than my other lecture teacher. She also gives extra work opportunities to get points. Always wants her students to succeed. Definitely helps to follow her tips on report writing and concept !
Super nice prof!! I truly liked her class and lab both . Her style of teaching with analogies and clarity. Explains stuff well. Shows explanatory videos, extra credit opportunities . Be regular and don't miss any class or you will miss a lot!!
Liked her class a lot! Signed up for her class next semester also. The class has clear expectations of grading and assignments. Very good style of explaining things. Listen to her tips and advice on reading text book etc and don't miss classes! She also offers undergraduate research as alternative method to do the semester.
She has a pretty thick Indian accent, so you may want to prepare yourself before jumping right into chemistry with her. She's extremely friendly and helpful in lab and if something comes up outside of class, she is understanding. I wish there were a lab report example to look at, but the first lab is a freebie so you learn how she likes them.
She got a lot of hate, but as someone taking chemistry for the first time and dreading it, I thought she was great. Keeps things simple and will go to great efforts to keep every student up to speed. My advice: go to the tutor center as often as you can and work on the problems from the book and DO NOT FALL BEHIND.
I had a chance to be part of Dr. Kane's UG research lab, it was perfect to put on my resume and gain experience for those wanting to go into research. She is passionate about her job and is willing to help you in class or individually! In lecture she makes sure you have an understanding of difficult concepts and problems. I highly recommend her.
I learned a lot in Dr. Kane's class . Taking her again this semester. She covers quite a lot in one class, gives great analogies & explains really well. Does lots of class work practice questions and gives handouts for chapters to work on. Be regular and attend all classes. If you miss a class, you will miss a lot and will be tough to catch up!
Let me say if you want to pass, please put work in. You don't expect to give half and get the full grade. Dr. Asmita will ask you to study and memorize, she will also give you the materials, but she's not responsible for what happens in your home. She speaks a little fast but she knows her stuff. No judgment guys, just go to class and do the work.
Our class was switched to online mid-way through due to COVID and my grade went from an A to a C because she became basically useless. Labs became impossible to do and were also graded toughly. In person the class is do-able, online I wouldn't recommend to anybody.
Dr. Kane is a wonderful professor. She gives high quality descriptions and explanations. I really enjoyed taking this Chem Lab. She honestly did a much better job explaining and relating things than my lecture professor. You can tell that she loves her job and is rooting for her students to succeed.
Thank you tonnes Dr. Kane for transitioning us so smoothly from in-person to online during COVID. Utmost caring for the students. She was hugely available through virtual hours and emails. Listen to her instructions & tips on what and how to study. And be regular! I highly recommend her.
If I could go back in time and change classes, I would. If you care about your GPA, don't take the class. She will say something and expect you to do another. Her labs every week are dumb. Half the time she wants something else than the lab and fail you.
By far the best chemistry teacher I have had. She is always ready to explain things whenever approached. Gives very clear grading expectations and I liked the way she used ipad to teach as she spoke. However if you are distracted in her class, you can totally lose it and fail. So, be prepared to be 100% focussed during the class time.
While I am well aware Chemistry is not easy by any means, this professor does not make it easier. She simply does not teach, told us not to ask her questions but rather 'figure out ourselves' and is an intense grader. Coming from a straight A student with a 3.8 GPA this is my honest review. SKIP THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT A DENT IN YOUR GPA.
Thanks Dr Kane for all you did to teach live online class. I learned more in her lab that my lecture class. Taking her again next sem !
Dr. Kane is an awesome CHM151 instructor. I had her for chem lab and she helped me to understand my lecture more than my lecture instructor. She can be a little strict and her emails can come off a little harsh. However, she was very caring in class and very easy to meet and talk to outside of class. She will take the time to step through problems.
So lucky to have taken lecture with Dr Kane! Thanks a lot! She pushed us hard to study in her class . My grade actually has been the best so far in all my chem classes. She made Online class comfortable with her teaching. Listen to her instructions on reading book chapters- she is not kidding. If you arent regular, you wont be able to catch up.
This was THE HARDEST class I have ever taken DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I barely passed this class with a B and she is a horrible teacher. I will say she is very nice, but most of my learning came from Khan academy. Sometimes she doesn't teach a lecture untill the day of the exam, and gives us the practice problems one day before the exam:/
Dr. Kane explains the concepts and answers your questions by taking time and is ready to help in office hours link even at any time even outside her office hours. I learned so much more in her lab and am taking her again for the next Chem class. She is kinda strict about due dates and will want your full attention in the online class .
Dont take her if you dont want to read and do regular study! She wants her every student to get the concept. Goes very logical and methodical, does lot of practice in class . If you miss her class, or are distracted though you will totally lose her! Best part was she converted some of her office hours to tutoring sessions which helped immensely!
Dr. Kane is a tough but amazing professor. You can tell how much she cares about her students and what she does. Her class is fairly difficult, but you'll be fine if you take good notes during class and study between classes. If you plan to take OChem, I highly recommend her as she will help prepare you for higher-level chemistry courses.
Professor Kane clearly lays out everything she expects from you in the semester. Follow her syllabus, ask questions, read the textbook, do the homework and you will pass!
Asmita was my mentor professor for an undergraduate research project. Because of covid, I did a literary analysis. Asmita is the UR Chair for good reason. She was able to clearly lay out the path I needed to take to arrive at the end of the semester with a proper paper and presentation. She puts her students before herself and is a joy to work with
never be taking any of her classes again. Not that is is her fault but her accent makes it really hard to understand what she says. writes her notes/examples so sloppy that I can barely read what she says. gets angry at us for not asking questions but then when we do yells at us for not understanding. Never again. Does not care about you at all.
If you are one of those who want to log in and then stay distracted, do not take her class. She is by far the best Chem teacher I had but her class demands full attention and participation. Loved her lectures and taking her again next semester. If you are serious about studying, then take her class. Its the best!
She was terrible with technology and making the class aware of due dates. She constantly changed assignments and test days and would give minutes' notice if hw was due or not. She also uses math from India so get ready to be confused on how she gets any of her answers. Don't bother studying with textbook her tests are ONLY ON MATH and NOTHING else
I was not sure of the Online class in Chemistry. But I must thank Dr. Kane for her teaching and instructions made it successful for me. Looking forward to the next Semester of her class.
Great prof! Was always there to help. Has clear concepts and explains things with useful analogies. Dont miss class and follow her tips.
Tests aren't tricky and comes from powerpoints and homework.
I took an accelerated class in high school and always been a straight A student, but not this class. I worked hard, and only got a B. She wouldn't answer questions, even when I went to her online office hours. Her accent is so thick I was just trying to understand what she was saying instead of understanding the concepts she was teaching. WNR!
Be diligent in not skipping any lectures. She gives great analogies and breaks down things to help understand. Solves relevant practice questions in class. that helped a lot. Thanks Dr. Kane for all the help .
Dr. Kane was awesome prof and a kind lady! Has great knowledge and does practice problems in class which was very helpful. Don't skip any class as it will hurt you- she covers a lot ! She truly wants her students to succeed and took the time to stop and ask if we understood. Gives alternative methods to replace bad test grade-ask her.
She is by far the best Chemistry prof I have had. Made the lab work so easy to understand. The best part is she exactly explains how to write lab reports. I felt like I understood the lab well! She gives reading assignments too as an alternative to labs. Ask her about it. I strongly recommend her.
Dr. Kane was by far the best Chemistry professor I have had in college. She explains so well, with many examples and is always interested in making sure that everyone in the class understands. Does problems in class which helped me alot to bring up my grade. I will strongly recommend her. Just do not miss any classes and follow her instructions!!
Great Chemistry Prof. Missing a class can completely throw you off though! She covers a lot in one lecture. Gives kinda cool analogies to explain chem concepts. Liked her offering alternate projects-helped me keep up my grade.
Very understanding and flexible professor. Tests are curved and questions are similar to homeworks, so no surprises. Responds to Emails relatively quickly. Kinda bounces from topic to topic, but tis the nature of alot of info in little time. Overall wonderful peofessor.
Extremely lecture heavy class and need to read the textbook for concept as well as additional practice. The easiest test the first and all goes downhill from there. She is available in her office hours so take advantage of that and tutoring. Explanations are vague and very run-on. Some information gets even more confusing if you need more detail.
Dr. Kane is a great Chemistry teacher. She makes sure you understand the concepts being taught, by explaining in different ways and giving helpful analogies. She made chemistry easy to learn and understand, and her lectures are straight to the point while including all necessary information. Make sure you attend every lecture in order to keep up.
CHM 151 was a tough course but Dr. Kane gave us many tricks of trade and a host of practice worksheets. Spend time doing the HW problems and actual practice worksheets if not, that will bite back at you as her exams are similar to HW and practice sheet questions. Over all very helpful prof but get ready to study. You will learn a lot of chemistry!
This class was tough but Dr. Kane gave us a variety of assignments to help us get a practice on the material. Solve her assignments sincerely-she is there to help always. And she is not kidding when she says her tests are similar to the assignments! She uses cool analogies to explain the complex stuff - missing lectures is a big loss!
I enjoyed her lab more than my lecture, honestly! Explains the lab very nicely step by step so makes it easy to do the lab. She also offers undergraduate research assignments as alternative testing or if you miss a lab- ask her about that. They are so much fun and truly made the topic very interesting for me. I strongly recommend her.
Super helpful and nice prof!! Tries to make sure everyone understand in class. You will work hard in her class but you will learn a lot and pass well! Her exams are very similar to HWs. So make sure you understand the HW seriously well!
I took Asmita Kane's undergraduate research class and had an amazing experience. I had a few different ideas for projects that I wanted to do, and she was receptive to my ideas and I was able to study something that really reflected my interests. Having the research project on my resume also helped me to receive two summer internship opportunities.
Professor Kane is an awesome chemistry teacher! I had her for just my lab, but I enjoyed her class so much I am taking her Chem 2 lab as well. She taught the principles so well I learned the lecture material in her lab class better than my lecture class. Very helpful and will pace her class well based off understanding.
Very obvious she cares for her students and their success. May seem tough at first, but she wants her class to understand what is going on. Only three tests and a final in total and it is vital to do well on them to pass the class but with studying and preparation, you'll be fine! Would 100% recommend and take her again best chem teacher at mcc :)
Dr. Kane is a combo of clarity in teaching and caring prof. I started off weak in the lab but listening to her teaching, I got clarity on the concepts. She offers practice questions and extra points for nomenclature etc. and it helped to do those practice questions. Follow her advice on how to study every topic. Will recommend her!
She's great! Lecture exam after each chapter; no comprehensive final. Group presentation as the final exam, and her grading was quite generous. Extra credit offered before each exam, but you'll have to put in effort to get the full points. Exams similar to homeworks and lectures, usually with a couple of curveballs from textbook pictures/diagrams.
Tough, but only because she genuinely wants students to understand her teachings. Lecture heavy, but lectures take and condense difficult concepts, so they are easier to understand. Definitely don't miss a class. One exam and homework assignment (ranging from 40-80 problems) for every chapter unit and a group project for a final. Extra credit.
I am so glad I took her class last sem and thanks to her way of explaining, my basics in Chem are way better and are helping me now in university classes. Thank you Dr. Kane! Also, just following her advice on how to study and instructions is very helpful.
CHM 151 is a tough class but Dr. Kane always looks out if her class understands the material. She explains in variety of ways to help you get the material. Don't skip classes as it will hurt majorly. Read her emails and announcements and totally follow her directions on how to study a specific chapter-she is not kidding !
Took her class in a flipped learning environment, and it was more difficult than normal. She made videos and made us watch and take notes on them, then come to class and complete graded classwork. She seemed like she cared, but insisted that if you watched he videos you would be fine, but the videos didn't always help.
Truly caring and knowledgeable prof! I recommend her but get ready to study regular. This was a challenging class but Dr. Kane will guide you on how to study. If you follow her instructions, you will learn a lot and get a good grade.
Great prof Dr Kane. Taking her class again this semester!
Dr. Kane cared to make sure everyone is engaged in class and understand the material! Being regular and not procrastinating is the mantra for this class. Gives alternative assignments like undergrad research if you talk to her about it.
She's a very nice lady and will answer questions if you ask her in class, but sometimes her class was slightly ahead of the CHM130 course; I don't know why she was surprised that we didn't know some things. She also said not to go to tutoring but didn't give me any feedback on what I was doing wrong, so I eventually dropped the course.
One of the best chemistry classes I have taken so far. Learning a lot in Dr. Kane's lecture. She gives lot of opportunities to up your grade. Good teaching style and makes sure everyone understands the lecture material. I strongly recommend her.
this professor teaches extremely fast, it is very test heavy. she tells you not to go to tutoring and to "learn in your own way". half the time she confuses herself when teaching a subject. take a different professor, would not recommend.
Hands down an awesome Prof Dr. Kane! Do not take her class if you don't want to study and want free grades - she teaches well and is available to help and explains well. If you practice regularly, you will get a good grade in her class. Her exams are very similar to class work practice. Lot of classwork so don't miss any lectures.
This prof is extremely caring and helpful and gives attention to make sure everyone learns. She explains concepts super well. Was having hard time in online lecture but attending her lab made it very clear. Am passing this class due to my understanding getting better in her lab. Follow her tips in her lecture time before the lab.
She is a great professor, a little hard to understand her sometimes due to her accent, but she works with you if you need to make up an exam! Make sure to make up labs if you miss them, she does give extra credit for 100% attendance as well as if you make up a lab. 10/10 lab. she only grades the lab and post lab! LOTS of extra credit opportunities
The final exam does not get curved, so I recommend doing all the extra credit opportunities (lab exit tickets).
Amazing profesor. Explains everything thoroughly and extremely nice!! She is strict yet understanding. Turn in all your labs and attend each lab. Do not show up late!! Print out lab procedure before and study it! Prof. then explains how to do lab, what is needed to calculate and how we apply it to lecture. Hard, so use her office hrs and tutoring
Impossible to follow along in lecture because she goes so quickly. There will be class work problems that you need to solve and turn in at the end of class that locks on Canvas10 minutes after, but she always goes over (which cuts into our time to submit) and she goes so quickly that it can be extremely difficult to get them solved in enough time.
Great prof. Keeps you busy in classwork...if you arrive late or are distracted, you will miss her. Explains concepts with great analogies and Goes over many problems in class and shows steps wise how to do them...and there are points offered for turning in the work she goes over in class. Im taking her again.
She is a kind professor maybe not the MOST patient but still good but it was hard keeping up with her at times and ended up having to teach myself most of the time if not I'd go to tutoring or wait for lectures. I wish she'd slow down sometimes but other than that she's nice and will push you to be better :).
Great professor! She explains things in good detail and tries to help you as much as she can if you have questions. She also explains what she expects in each lab report and isn't very picky with what you write either. The final exam is more based on procedures and chemical principles instead of calculations as well
Professor Kane was great. She knows the material well but sometimes makes mistakes in calculations or concepts. Don't expect to get full credit on anything, she will take .4 off of an assignment grade and do the same thing on stuff like extra credit. She also goes really quickly for lectures. Pretty middle of the road professor.
Dr. Kane is knowledgeable and explains concepts very well with analogies. She shows the detailed problem solving method. She does a massive classwork experience which is graded. The classwork proceeds rapidly but if you are regular, you will get her and you will score decent. Absolutely no space for distraction or skipping classes though!
Very organized lectures and always available to answer questions. She gives a variety of assignments to score points. This course has a lot of material to cover so follow her time to time instructions on how to study- when she says to practice, do practice at home- she is not kidding! Do not take her if you are disorganized and miss classes.
she was a great lab professor. will give you feedback on labs. the way she taught and explained things made everything click and make sense. going to her office hours was a great help too she would always make sure we understood everything before moving on. is not tough on grading so just do the work and youll be fine
