She has good lectures which help a lot, but she can be a tough grader.
Bad accent. Horrible teaching style. No leniency in her grading style, which leaves a lot to be desired..since she has maybe a little bit of an idea of how to teach.
She cannot teach in a straight line, she is just all over the place when she explains something. Also it is very hard to understand what she is saying
Very difficult to understand and comprehend. Did not answer questions directly. Very inconsistent teaching style. Hypocritical and sometimes just plain mean. I think this teacher is a nazi. Do not take this class even in the other ones are full.
What did she just say? Shoom? Progrem? Why is this test so hard? Why why why?
Her accent is so hard to underdstand. All of her lectures are her facing the chalk board! The lectures seem too scattered and she is not very clear and does not explain things how she wants them too clearly. She is also a very tough graded. I do not recommened ANYONE to take her class!
Prof is horrible, accent and teaching style are proofs of this. Thick accent, makes it hard to understand her, her lack of ability to teach makes it hard to learn the math. Tests would be better if they weren't M/C, or if they went with what the class covered...
Oh wow, this teacher is awful! Her lectures are terrible, she does not want to help any of her students. She doesn't care if we are not passing her class. Do not take her class!
Meanest **** EVER!!!!!!!

This instructor is very uninterested in helping her students. When anyone questioned her teaching methods, she became defensive and argumentative.
You people are insane. She is the greatest math teacher there is at AVC. What, you want her to allow you to use the Ti-89 you lazy people? She is very involved with her students and does whatever she can to help them achieve greatness.
Very appreciative and sometimes helpful. Overall a bit above average teacher.
Looses her temper quickly, wants all the work done perfect. Even if you get the right answer but did the steps wrong, she will count you as wrong.
I think I would have had better success reading the book by myself and not listening to the lectures. Yes she appears to know what she's talking about but is so unorganized and inefficient with her teaching. Alienates her students and seems to waste too much time on insignificant topics.
Do not take her!!!!!!!
She is the greatest math instructor I've ever had. She wants students to succeed and she helps us. She cares.
Mrs. Cholvin is a dynamic and enthusiastic professor who makes math easy to learn. She is very helpful, approachable and friendly. If you attend the lectures and do your homework you can easily get an A. Very happy I took this class, I'm transferring next Fall. She is very knowledgeable in math and physics which is good if you're engineering major.
I have thoroughly enjoyed having Mrs. Cholvin in my Math for Business & Economics. She has been extremely helpful every time I had questions and she always welcomes you with a smile in her face. She cares more than I could imagine. She wants her students to learn and get good grades. She prepares you well for tranferring to a 4 yr college.
The only way I did well in this class was because I have already taken calculus. She ignored students questions. When she was present she was ALWAYS late (and got mad at students for being late). You can get an A on everything and still get a B in the class (how is this possible?). Take this class some where else, just don't take her.
I love this class. I have learned more than I could imagine. She is a great teacher and has helped me all the way through the semester. She takes her students seriously and does everything she can to help them learn. She's the best math teacher I ever had.
I am very happy I took Mrs. Cholvin. She makes you work hard but she is very considerate and reasonable when she gives your grade. A huge THANK YOU MRS CHOLVIN!!!
This is the best math class I ever had and the best math instructor I ever had. Ms Cholvin has prepared me to do well as I'm transferring to a 4 yr college.
She talks entirely too much, but she is a good teacher. Her thick Grecian accent makes me laugh.
she has an accent and you cant really understand her sometimes!!!
I love her. She's the best professor I've ever had. She cares for the students to learn.
A great teacher. She will make you work for your grade but if you really enjoy math and are an math or engineer major take her!
She was BY FAR THE WORST teacher i have ever had!!! you cant understand a word she says and she is very rude, she's always late too! she doesn't listen to a word you say so if you want to ask questions...DONT!!! suggestions: take someone else.. anyone! our class complained to the math dean like 5 times in the semester...save yourself the trouble!!!

Mrs. Cholvin is the most sensitive and caring instructor I've ever had. She has spent countless hours helping me do well.
gets rude when you ask her questions, was sort of hard to understand
Great instructor. She will make you work hard but in the end you will learn the material. Great for Engineers and Math majors! Great personality.
I am a physics major and I have learned more from Mrs. Cholvin than from my physics teacher. She really is good and if you show interest in learning she really helps you.
She is hard to understand, her accent makes her confusing when she is describing a problem. She gets mad if you don't understand what she is saying or if you to her office hours. take someone else who is willing to help you. Hard Class!!
Excellent teacher! She teaches the subject very well. She doesn't collect homework; the entire class is based on tests but she covers everything that will be on the test. She makes sure that everyone understands what is going on and is willing to help anyone who is having problems. She is very nice and I recommend her for any math/physics majors.
I'm an engineering major, and i think that she's a really great math teacher! She's funny, helpful, and presents examples one step at a time. Grades are based on "quizes", but it's best to treat them as short tests. If you study properly and know the material, you should be fine.
Makes a valiant effort to explain the material, but her grading structure is frightening. Pop quizes make up the bulk of the grade, which makes each class a stressful experience. Also impossible to study ahead for exams or really know where your grade stands until the end.
she is extremely helpful, though her accent can be a bit hard to understand SOMETIMES. she is very approachable, and she will give you warning ahead of time if you are close to not passing. thanks to her patience, and help i did learn alot, and i passed! she is a great teacher. my only complaint is the class was an interactive math class!
Mrs. Cholvin is the best math instructor I ever had in my life. It's the first time I understood fractions. She makes everything easy to understand.
She was cool in the beginning, except when she comes to class with hot flashes and goes nuts for no reason. Hard to understand. Has very little patience, will not ask if anyone needs help unless you sit there and waive your hand for an hour. Take someone else!!
The best math instructor I've ever had.
Very patient in her explanations. She can be a little difficult to understand due to her accent. But she is willing to give a lot of individual time, if you need it. She is very lenient and understanding. A really GREAT teacher. I learned SO much!
she got rid of my fear of math. she is a wonderful teacher, and very helpful. after every problem she asks if there are any questions. she involves the class alot! very easy to understand, accent is not a problem. one of the best math teachers i've ever had!
I really like the way she explains everything. She is very helpful. If you show interest in learning she does everything to help you with math. She inspires the class with her enthusiasm.
If you're not a math person, i would suggest you take someone else. She expects people to think fast and memorize the material in very little time. She can be rude, especially when leaving early even if you explain why. Kinda hard to understand b/c of accent. She flies through the material very quickly and goes on rants about life. Take anyone else
She was very excited about math and teaching it. The homeworks count as extra-credit, which can increase your final grade up to 10% more. The tests were always problems very similar to the reviews. Cholvin can be challenging but fun at the same time. I wish she tought Calc III.
I DONT UNDERSTAND HER, AND IF YOU COMPARE HER WITH DR.ZHENG,I THINK THAT MAN WORTH MORE,HOWEVER,I LEARN NOTHING IN THIS CLASS AT ALL,JUST I SAY THAT I PASS MATH 150,WITH " A" AND NEVER TAKE MATH 160 CLASS WITH HER AGAIN
Her class was pretty easy because I already knew a lot of the stuff, this is probably the only reason why I passed because her accent is a little hard to understand. She was nice to me but I did see her get rude with some of the other students for asking questions or leaving early. If you're really into math, I would recommend somone else.
Pretty easy class, considering the subject. She could have made it much more difficult. Gives 2% extra credit for showing up on every test day, 4% for turning in all homework, and 4% for "participation," for a grand total of 10% extra credit. Helps a lot. I got a B, probably earned/deserved a C. Accent isn't an issue.
She is a decent teacher, she is just extremely rude and inconsiderate. I will not take her again. Her accent is strong and she gets mad when asked questions. I would not recommend her. There are not enough redeeming qualities to make this class worthwhile.
strict
Considering the situation [Calc. II over the Summer], this class couldn't have been better. Learn to study a bit on your own time and not just in class. Always do the homework, even if it isn't mandatory. And if need be, study in groups or get tutoring at the Learning Center. All things which are free, so don't be lazy. Gotta work it to win!
Mrs. Cholvin bares a strong passion for Math which makes her students more attentive during her lectures. She can be a tad bit confusing due to her accent but after the first week, it's no problem at all. There is A LOT of homework involved and even though it is just considered as EC, the practice helps tremendously for upcoming tests.
part calculus part algebra. This is a hard class if you have had only intermediate algebra. do all the homework & attend class. It really does take 10+ hours per week to study & do homework if you are not familiar with calculus. than the ones just out of high school. Professor Cholvin is very fair and reasoable. Very easy to understand. I got a B!
This teacher is a joke. I emailed her to let her know that i wasnt able to make a class. she never got back to me. When i showed up the following week, i told her that i had sent her an email, she said that she never got it. Then she told me that she dropped me from the class! I asked her to double check the roster and she said no.
She is extremely rude sometimes but she can teach but she can also get confusing I thought she was an OK teacher.test every Thurs and tons of hw but homework does help on the test
She is so unorganized! She has a test EVERY week! She is so unprepared that she would leave class to write the test in her office and make copies! She is nice but she is EXTREMELY defensive...You have to study ALOT!
She's a good teacher, just very hard. Test every week and tons of homework. Accent isn't an issue. She can be rude to the students sometimes.
Professor Cholvin is probably one of the best teachers at AVC. I took her for Math 160 during the summer and this class is a breeze and an easy A for those students who actually commit to doing the work required for this course (after all, we're in college). She is a sweet person and her accent is definitely not an issue.
This was a fun class; sometimes she had us get into groups to do problems. There was quite a bit of homework and frequent tests, but I actually liked that because it helped me to learn the material.
She is one of the best teachers i have taken so far. Her accent is not a problem. She goes over each step. I never consider her as a rude person. You need to get extra help, Calculus II is not so easy. I can't wait till next semester, she is teaching Calc III
Tests were difficult but the final was extremly hard. Accent is a bit hard to understand but she tries her best.I would never take her again.
Prior to taking Math 120 there was another Professor set to teach this class then Professor Cholvin showed up. I didn't know what to expect. It was hard but joining study groups helped. She is nice just make sure not to be rude to her.
I don't really recommend Professor Cholvin for lower-division math classes. She assumes that everyone should know at her level and her way of explaining things is very difficult. I had a hard time communicating with her. I think, if you're a math major, she might be okay to take. If not, I just don't recommend taking her at all.
She subbed in a math 70 class and was so much better than the current teacher, im here to post about it. Love this lady, cant wait til math 130!
I did't care for her too much. She treated the class like high school students and would put you on the spot if you didn't do your h/w which you had a lot of. I do not recommend her.
Horrible teacher. If u miss one day to class she will drop. Wasting of time in her class.
Don't take her!!!
They should have another teacher for math 125. this teacher doesn't know how to teach a class. Wasting of time with her.
She is an amazing teacher. Calculus II is not easy, you need to work twice as much as you Did on Calc I. She will help you if she see that you are willing to help. We had 8 test. Go to tutoring center, only a few can help so be constant and communicate with your tutor, Miss Cholvin also helps in office hours but she expect you to know the material.
She expects you to know the material, Calculus 2 is the one of the most difficult classes. Get to know Miss Cholvin, she is really nice. She also teaches Calc 3 So if you are good in Calc 2 You have nothing to worry about.
Best Math teacher I've ever had. This class is online & she is available to answer questions even on Saturday & Sunday. She is very helpful & explains everything thoroughly. Just study the review problems & you can easily get an A on the tests.
If you go to class you'll know exactly what to study for the tests & get straight As. I'm not so good in math but professor Cholvin made it so easy to understand. This class was fun.
Awesome teacher. Taking this class was the best math experience ever. I had a low self esteem in math but this teacher not only taught math but she made me believe in my self. Before the semester started I was afraid I would get an F but I was able to get an A.
don't beleive the happy faces below. more than 60% of the class got D or below on the 3rd test, and most are failing.125 is not hard,it's cholvin that doesn't teach and doesn't care about students learning, doesn't even listen to questions.she gives you her back and solves problems on her own on the board.you will be sorry if you take her class.
I actually like math and I am good at it but this teacher doesn't teach well. She doesn't give good explanations so a large portion of the class is not passing. no homework but you are responsible for practicing everything at home and being ready for a test or quiz. she is rude when ppl try asking questions. She randomly lashes out at ppl.
She is much better suited for online class because all she does is solve problems on the board. People are discouraged to ask questions. The ones who do drop because they are failing so at the end of the semester class is dead silent. Only those who already know algebra pass those who come to learn algebra fail.
Seriously! this teacher is easy. if you slack off then it will be hard. All one has to do is study for like 40 minutes a night(study the notes discussed in class) and you'll do fine. Her grades are based on projects and exams. about 5 exams and 1 final. 50% on preojects(pop quizes) 50% on exams. If you do good on test final is optional.
she is the smartest and nicest person ever, but a few people completely ruined it for the class. This is a very hard class but if you study youll be good. class is not at a community college level but you learn a lot.
very nice lady. she will help you out if you are willing to learn. she will put you on the spot though, if you don't know your basic algebra. I was doing well in the beginning, but I started to slack off at the end of the semester. grading is 50/50 (test/projects)
She's very clear in her teaching, just amazing. She does pop quizzes, so doing the homework ASAP and reviewing material is essential. Homework volume isn't too high. She'll let you know what will be on exams so that you know what to focus on. Homework is due on exam day. Buying the solutions manual is highly recommended.
She is a great teacher! I struggle with math but she makes it as simple as possible. You know exactly what is expected of you and if you struggle with the material, she is easy to approach with questions. She relates well to students and made the material less intimidating. I appreciated that she put the math in context with realistic applications.
Great professor. Easy class if you stay on track with your homework, and go to class regularly. Always ready to help and talk to students at her office hours!
She is an awesome instructor, if there is something you don't understand feel free to ask a question. And if you still don't understand go to her office and speak with her. She is approachable, she try to be funny and She loves teaching Calculus. I enjoyed her classes being that I had her for two Calculus classes.
If you are borderline, expect not to be raised.
Took this class during Winter Session, I wouldn't advise it, there is a lot of information for 5 weeks. She was a very nice teacher, explained things well. No homework, and she created packets "projects" which we did in class. The last week we had back to back tests, two midterms and two finals, and it was rough. I would take her again.
She is not nice. She does not care about you or your grade. She randomly gets mad and starts yelling at people who do not necessarily deserve it. She hates questions so dont bother asking. She also marks the entire problem wrong if you miss one little mark
Nice lady, but as a math tutor myself, I cannot say I recommend her. She doesn't make the material easier to comprehend, and doesn't answer questions thoroughly. She treated our Calc II class like we were a bunch of rowdy highschoolers. I would recommend Anderson instead. Anderson is more work, but you will understand the material better.
Cholvin is a cool professor, I think she is the easiest of all the calc 2 professors. She does these packets that are worth 20% and are graded by your attendance. The tests are worth 80% and are from similar problems in the packet. If you know everything in the packet your golden. Take her if you need calc 2, just make sure you show up ON TIME.
As a person she is very nice. Requires people to be in class or she WILL drop you. Over complicates everything in the course. All homework is done online for the math 102 class and she is very hard to understand. I would not recommend this professor unless you are able to teach yourself because most material was lacked when tests came around.
Cholvin is a sweetheart and she cares about you passing the class. I forgot to go to her office hours one day and the next class session she asked me why I didn't show! It was a little embarrassing, but she wants you to do well! She explains the concepts with such clarity, but be prepared for in class quizzes! Study a little also, you'll be fine.
All I have to say is that if you are really good at math, you can do well in this class. If not, do not take her. I basically had to teach myself because she is not a good teacher. She is very disorganized, but is a nice lady. I however will not be taking her again.
Cholvin is a very nice lady. I did not need help in this class, but when other students would ask for help, she did not clarify. Homework and tests were easy. I would reccomend her if you do not have trouble in math.
This teacher isnt that great. a lot of the work was online even though the class wasnt online. i got bored really easily and due dates for homework are very unclear. she grades harder than other teachers ive taken and i would not recommend this teacher if you fall asleep in class. she was unclear with teaching and helping students. do NOT recommend
I took this class over intersession and really enjoyed having Prof Cholvin as a teacher. She did work packets with us in class and if you study the packets then you'll ace the tests. No homework. I am currently taking her MATH 160 class and it's the same format, different material. Easy to follow and get good grade if you do and study the packet.
Cholvin made Calc II a really easy class. It was to the point where you would more than likely take advantage of this and study below the sufficient amount and get a 79%. DO NOT take advantage of her. She teaches well. Study with college-like habits. You're golden if you do this. Study right after each lecture if you can; helps with retention.
Be prepared to teach yourself! When she's doing examples it's like she's trying to confuse you. Everything is much clearer in the book. I asked 3 questions in her class, each time she answered with a "I don't know". If you are borderline she will not raise you. There is no curve. Everything is on scantron. What a joke. Overall lousy teacher!
took cholvin over summer, got an 89 and she gave me a B. Reason I passed is bcs of Anderson. bombed Anderson's 160, in comparison cholvin is a breeze. ALL tests are scantron, there is HW everyday - that is complete or not, PERIOD. if you want to pass, take cholvin, but if you want to take 220 or 250, Dont take her, your study habits will go down
She teaches well enough and if you do your optional homework you will pass her tests. But here's a warning DO YOUR ABSOLUTELY BEST ON ALL THE TESTS BEFORE THE FINAL! Because all her class finals are IMPOSSIBLE! You will not be able to make up your grade on the final, and if you do well before you won't even have to take it because she'll drop it.
Cholvin was a very nice person at heart, however she cant teach plain and simple. There is no class structure and she is incredibly difficult to understand. Her lectures are long monotone with an accent and provide very little help. Your entire class grade is based on two tests which are multiple 5 choice but the hardest multiple choice tests ever.
Her style of teaching is meant for understanding, but the problem is she doesn't assign homework. Everything on the tests were on these "projects" and it made it pretty easy to pass her class. I went on to differential equations with almost nothing retained from calc 2 and calc 3. She's a nice person though and she's great at mathematics.
She was not the best math professor, she moves to fast in her lectures, and expects for other to understand. Her test were totally different than her lectures, so there was no relation to them. If you ask for help, she is rude and not helpful. I basically taught myself in this course.
Best teacher I ever had. Clear and understandable lectures, makes the hard stuff easy to understand. She gives good study guides. Easy to get an A.
The calculus itself was not difficult, having to memorize dozens of complicated formulas for inconsistent tests was extremely difficult i.e. 1 test graded w/partial credit & 20 questions & the next graded w/ NO partial credit and 4 questions. Never gotten a C before now. She is knowledgeable so it's unfortunate that she conducts her tests that way.
