She was not too bad. All she does is lecture, but if you take notes, fill out your review for the test and study it, you will get an A. There are a few open book/note quizzes and one term paper. Easy class.
very hard!!! If you mess up on a test, you are doomed forever!!
she is the best teacher i have ever had..she is fascinating, very fair to the students and very friendly!sociology rocks my socks!
Very interesting class and she is very well educated. I actually looked forward to going to class. Easy A if you know the study guides. All questions come from the study guides.
I enjoyed her class very much. Her study guides are in order and her test are from the questions on the study guide. On the Gordon Rule, she is very helpful. She is very easy to communicate with. Excellent instructure.
mrs. athena smith is a real good teacher. Her lectures are interesting, her class participation was good. Her study guide was a useful tool in studying for her midterm and final exams. She is always willing to help a student if we want help especially when it comes to the research papers. She keeps communication open. It was a great term.
Great teacher. Follow the study guide and do decent on the G.R. paper = A. Just dont miss class, then you'll have to do assignments.
Some of her lectures blew me away. Hard on attendance but easy on research papers. Helpful!
A stickler on attendance, but understanding in everything else. Her lectures were interesting and thought provoking. I actually enjoyed it when I thought I wouldn't!
Mrs. Smith was an excellent teacher. She taught a lot of interesting stuff. If you go to class, pay attention, and take notes, you should get an A. She tells you exactly what you need to know. You have a paper to write and she is very helpful. She's willing to stay after class.
She is ok. You will need to come to every class... Tests were kind of hard (even open notes tests).
She was very interesting. Open book tests were hard but if you take notes and complete the study guides you will get an A.
Very interesting lectures. You take notes, you amswer the study guide questions, you get an A. Most class got 100% on their research paper. No BS with her and she returns the favor.
I stayed in school because of her. She spent many hours with me showing me how to do papers. Good lady.
Easy A.
Very Nice Lady. Your're Going To Learn More About Our Society Through Her. Open Notes Test But Its Still Hard Sometimes. Use Her Study Guide.
She was amazing. All i can say is that i wish i knew that going into this semester i was going to have a teacher like her. Too bad they cant all be like her.
She is a great teacher. Gives open note tests and a required project. Don't buy the book...we didn't use it all. Attendance is mandatory, you can miss 2 days, and if you miss more than that you have to write a paper. Class is fun though, she tries to get everyone involved. Great lady, very nice! Take her if you have the chance..you will learn alot!
One of the best teachers I've had at HCC...!!! go to class, copy her notes.... and do a decent research paper and you're guranteed and A...
Very good experience. She is courageous and articulate. You have to know all the answers to the study guide questions to pass the tests. PLus you have to write a research paper. Attendance is strict. She got some students involved in her blog, it was a very strong blog.Check it out.
She is awesome. She is so intriging and fascinating. I loved her ascent!!! She only gives 4 or 5 tests and a research paper. I GOT AN A+. I loved her class. I wish she would have taught Psych. Definition of a great teacher= A. Smith. She's great.
I highly recommend her. I got a B but still i thought she is tops. You look forward to going to class.
To pass this class you need to show up for all her classes. You should write a lot of notes from the book, and when she tells you something is important when she's lecturing that means write it down. Notes are essential for the tests! She makes you write 1 paper or do a blog thing. Do the paper! Follow all that and you'll pass with an A or B.
Towards the end of the term the experience is very good. I actually learned a lot from her. She gives study guides and test questions are all in the study guides. Tests are open notes but not open books. Very good overall experience.
Dr. Smith is a very good professor. You are allowed to miss two classes and after that if you miss more you must turn in short assignments to make up. Her tests are open notes and she will stay after class to help you.I think I have learned a lot through her.
great teacher, always willing to help, great subject matter, very personable, just a great teacher!
Very good. I got an A!!!!
Highly suggest taking her course. Every student should get an A in this class. She allows open note tests in whish she gives you Study Guide Questions.
She makes the class fun.
If you need help, she will spend as much time as you need to help you get through.I got an A in the course and I also give her an A PLUS!
SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS! Just copy the slides, do the 100word blog, the one short paper, and show up for class. She is so interesting and helpful. Plus she encourages you to speak outloud about anything. And if you do well on the 4 testS she has then you can skip the last test. NO FINAL! on WebCT she has HELPFUL study guides for her tests!
She was cool, pretty goofy, she has a sense of humor about things. She will keep you on your toes. About the slides, copy them down asap. She goes fast, so write fast. Do the blogs, I got a C cuz I didn't do any, lol... but yea, do those, do the paper, study the questions in the book and you'll be fine.
Halfway through the semester, I must say this is the ONLY class I look forward going to. She adds a lot to the text, brings in a global perspective. Very enjoyable!
Knows her stuff and what's going on in many countries. I like her lectures. Lots of multimedia, discussions, points to grey areas, nothing is black or white. If you study you get an A. Responds fast to her emails, and will help you out of class. Strict on attendance, you miss more than two classes you have to write an essay.
Great teacher, very helpful. Knows her stuff. Just follow along with the power point presentations and the tests are all open notes. You can only use hand written notes but it helps. Plus do the blogs online and it's an easy A.

Great teacher! Go to class and you will have fun, then take notes and review the test outline; You WILL get an A!! Smart, funny and encourages comments during class. You will learn a LOT, have fun and get an easy A...what more could you want?
Go to class, have fun/learn, take notes and best yet; open notes for the tests! You'll love her class; she keeps it interesting and if you have half a brain you'll get an A.
Very good professor. Multimedia presentations, the most recent stuff. Patient and diplomatic with all the wackoes.
Good teacher, lots of powerpoint. Has an accent so she is a little hard to understand sometimes but not too bad. The test questions are worded weird a lot; not word for word from the notes so its still a little confusing. Possible big project. I had to skype with kids in India and it was a bad project. Easy. i would recommend.
I took the online course and i recommend it. the work was well structured.I liked the interaction. the number of assignments was to much. closed book final in the computer lab but gives you ahead of time a pool of questions to study.
She was great! Everything was involved, and I never wanted to miss a class. Don't bother buying the book. She has everything you need on the power points.
I took this class online and really enjoyed it. I didn't think I would find sociology so fascinating. Mrs. Smith is extremely nice and understanding. The class consists of the discussion board questions, study guide questions, online tests, and a final you take at school. Would highly recommend!
Funny,on time, prepared. Made the subject worth a perfect attendance. I refer her to all freshman! :]
Smith is a great professor. she has a greek accent but not hard to understand. Shes funny and class in pretty interesting. she lets u use notes on the tests so as long as you take notes you will be good. easy A for me. i <3 Mrs smith and i would recommend her to anyone =]
Great Teaher
Coolest teacher ever! 4 OPEN NOTE exams, 3 presentations that you don't even work on at home, one very easy blog a week. You don't even have to read the book. Just takes notes in class and you'll get an "A." She is so funny and involves the class. Makes sociology very interesting. I highly highly recommend her. I got an "A."
I am a dual enrollment student and she is a great teacher. she made the course interesting and unique. She is a great teacher i would recommend her.
Great professor and made the course very interesting. The tests are open notes but many questions can be found only in the book and not in her power points. Make sure you study the book. There is a couple in the library on reserve.
Took her online Intro to Sociology and loved the class! Easy work, great Power-Points; you can answer almost all of your discussion questions by studying them. Does require a LOT of long answer writing. She was very helpful and encouraging. Open book tests, but timed so study a least a minimal amount before and you're good to go.
Taking globalization online with her. She has us hooked with some students in Grenoble. Reading materials are free online and she has online lectures recorded so it's like being in class minus the noise. Easy course but the tests are not fair! She should tell you which readings they are from and she refuses to.
Best Professor ever!! She is ver nice. All test are open note (easy A). She will take off points for missing class but her classes are so interesting that you wont want to miss class. She give make up exams for 2 weeks after the tests. If you want a fun easy A class I recommend you take Athena's syg class.
Taking her for globalization, Dr.Smith is great and I don't know who doesn't love her! She's crystal clear and wants her students to succeed. Low stress very informative teaching style.
This is an amazing Teacher. Her class is very easy and very interesting. I took a hybrid class and I enjoyed the class session where we had our debates and etc. I should be receiving an A in her class. I even heard her regular classes are fun and easy. Loved this semester!
She is a great teacher. If you havee chance take her class. All tests are open note this class is so easy. She says you need to but the book but honestly i never opened it and got an A.
I took Social Problems w/A. Smith. She teaches off of powerpoint, which is available online throughout the semester. Study guides as usually available within 2 class days of a test. I found that she relied heavily on statistics. She takes away points if you miss more than 2 days of class. Lots of fun arguments!
Ms. Smith is of the best professors I've had! I took online Sociology and she made the discussions and information very interesting! She's very focused on making sure the students understand the information and can apply it, not just give textbook information. I look forward to taking more classes with her! :)
While she is impatient with her video uploads, she is very engaging with her topics and allows notes for tests. Runs through slides at mild pace, but PowerPoints are online as well. Good class to take, very eye opening to the world.
Super easy. Take notes because you can use them on your test. All questions come from your notes. The essay at of the semester isn't that bad, as long as you do a tiny bit of research and format it correctly. She lets your skip the final if you have enough points prior to get an A. I really enjoyed her class.
Loved her topics of discussion. Very informative.
Easy A. Test are open notes. All the notes she gives you ARE WHAT YOU NEED. 5 test, lowest grade dropped. 3 forums, super eassssy; just talking about your opinion. Those are to meet Gordon Rule. She gives you 3 days of absence. 4th one will drop your grade by a letter. But her class is interesting so you don't want to miss it.
Fun class. Great professor. Easy study guides. Open note tests. Super easy discussion forums. Loved this class!
signed up for globalization as elective. Great course from day 1. Prof approachable and polite. Content free on line.
Super easy class. Hand write your notes and you can use them on the test. I loved how she constantly gave the class food for thought questions and how her discussions actually got the class involved. The book you use is pretty interesting too.
Prof. Smith was knowledgable and nice. And what's even nicer are her tests;they are open note but you must hand write your notes. This class was an easy A, so I highly recommend it!
Great course with a free e-text.The teacher was knowledgeable on global affairs and I learned quite a lot. We had 6 tests open notes and 9 in class projects. Easy A.
Prof. Smith went above and beyond to ensure you understand the material. Gives additional videos, articles, and other sources if you're interested in learning beyond the assigned work. You can tell she's really passionate about the subject, it's refreshing to see a professor go the extra-mile for the sake of knowledge.
I am taking the online course and it is one of the most interactive courses I have taken. She is very well organized and conscientious. Responds fast and skypes with you if you have questions. Tests are open book, untimed and you can take them twice. But they are critical thinking questions so you have to spend a long time before you answer.
if you take her online course all her test are very hard. some questions have critical thinking questions. Not a easy course. Some questions are outside the text book.
Weekly tests open book and discussions. Prof responds fast. Heavy use of text, don't even think of not buying it. Get it on Amazon, it's an old edition, sells dirt cheap ($5)
retaking the class from another campus. did not buy the text. Get by nicely with a different text and common sense.
This was my first online course and I loved it! Material is organized weekly, discussions and weekly quizzes, open book. Quizzes were hard at times. The interaction with the teacher strong. She is active on the discussion board and replies to her emails fast.
She was a teacher to remember and she taught our class well.
Her online class is so easy. Every sunday theres a 200 word discussion board and 50 word reply to another student. she chooses interesting topics and the tests can be taken twice. questions are straight out of the chapters. no reason to fail this class if you turn in your work on time
She is hands down the best instructor I have had at HCC!!
Such a Great teacher! She respects everyone's opinions and is very openhearted. She loves to have fun but she doesnt tolerate lazy or rude people. As long as you take notes and make sure you submit the hw on time you will get an A
Great teacher! I took her for Social Problems at the Brandon Campus. She is very nice, and the discussions in class are awesome. I was always excited about going to class! The tests aren't hard and they are open note. I easily got an A. Also, she's not harsh when it comes to being a few minutes late.
Great teacher and an easy class. Uses power points for class and all you have to do is copy them. The tests are open notes. Answer discussion questions she posts on blackboard (at least 1000 words). Great in class discussions. NO PROJECTS
One of the best professors at HCC&a very interesting class! She will really open your eyes and teach you about problems that happen around the world. I learned so much from this class. She is funny & respects everyone's opinion. Always understanding. Tests are open notes &you have a discussion board to satisfy the gordon rule requirement. TAKE HER!
Love this Professor!!!! She is interesting, interactive and responsive....what more can you ask for? Took her for a previous class and sought her out for this one. Definately one of the best I have had. You will really enjoy her classes!
Very interesting class. you learn quite a bit.
Dr. Smith is a wonderful and caring professor. Interesting, interactive, respectful towards students. This was a class i was looking forward to going.
Very interesting, classy, funny professor who makes fun of herself often to make a point. Balances between tenderness and toughness. Goes out of her way to help you. Will not tolerate rudeness. Obsessed with attendance. Only 3 allowed, then a grade drops. We love her.
Five tests, open notes. Test with the lowest grade can be retaken but the second attempt is much tougher. Very interesting lectures. You don't want to miss them. She is decent with everyone. Replies to emails fast and open to many ideas. The positive thing is that you learn a lot.
Online course with good organization. Weekly exams but are take home. The book is free online. Weekly discussions, and they are quite interesting. I learned a lot through the discussions. She has uploaded lectures too. Interacts with you fast. I highly recommend her.
I took Social Problems online and was concerned about the work load and the communication with the teacher, however, I had not a single problem. He requirements are clear and her work was not to difficult or overwhelming. Great teacher.
Grade based off of 1 "Essay" and 5 tests (Multiple Choice and Open Notes) Didn't use the textbook. Took the notes from the power points, looked at the outlines of the chapters from the book online (free), and did the study questions. Athena knows her material to heart, will help students, and is very clear. Got a 95 at the end of the semester.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Mrs. Smith is outstanding and is not only an easy professor but a professor that will make you think! I enjoyed her sociology class and learned so much! All of her tests are open note. Just show up, take notes and you will pass. Don't bother buying the book. Take Mrs. Smith! She rocks!
Great course and Dr Smith is the best. I sensed she loves her students. If you run into a problem see her and she will help you. I faced some issues this past semester and she was accommodating. The course is the most interesting I have ever taken. I learned a lot and she made us think a lot. I understood my family and my society better. Take her
I took this class online .. must read chapters to pass test and participate in weekly discussion. Great class, and easy.
Dr. Smith is wonderful. I took her class online and loved it. Since it's online, reading the book is crucial, but it is interesting. You read one chapter a week, then take one test (open book, not timed), and have one discussion board. I would recommend her online class to anyone.
She was hands down the best teacher I've had in all of college. Her classes are extremely interesting and well taught and she gives excellent feedback. This specific class had open book tests and fun discussion boards. I've learned more in her classes than in any other teacher's class. I just wish she taught more classes!
Absolutely love this professor! No need to buy a text book, she gives access online for free! She responds to emails and voicemails promptly. She is a an involved and caring Professor.
Probably the best class I've taken in college. First couple days it was little hard to understand her accent but afterwards I had no issues. Her class is pretty much note based so take THOROUGH notes because all her tests are open notes. We have lots of discussions but she keeps class control and doesn't go off on tangents about nothing.
Great professor! She presented a neat class with plenty of opportunity to earn an A. She was involved in the discussions postings, which were interesting and though-provoking. A great class. I learned a lot and I would definitely take it again!
Professor Smith is a A+++ professor. Take her class Very easy going just do your weekly discussions, quizzes, read your chapters and you will be fine. I love this class the materials are so easy and fun to read. I wish I had her for every single one of my classes.
She is very fair towards her grading. Her lectures are actually interesting. Attendance is important, so don't skip, but if so happen, she allows opportunity to write a paper to make up for it. WOULD RECOMMEND.
Great
Prof. Smith was a greatttt professor. I absolutely loved and respected her . She was honest and kind absolutely amazing .
Oh my gosh this was easily the best professor I've ever had in college. I took the online class and all of the tests were open book! She was always quick to respond! I wish all of professors could be more like her! Would recommend taking!
Great professor and great course. All you have to do is show up. You don't need the book at all so save your money. Just show up with pen and paper, listen to her, and take useful notes. Pay attention. Attendance is mandatory. She is a great lecturer and likes to involve students in the lectures.
Very thorough and interesting lectures, very clear PowerPoints to go along with the book and the lecture. Textbook is available for free online. This class required a lot of reading, and all of it was interesting.
Dr. Smith is such a wonderful person and excellent professor. She makes a personal video to welcome you to the course. 15 tests, all multiple choice, lowest score is dropped. Use the book on the tests!!!! Discussions are an easy A and required to pass the class. She always reminds you when things are due and answers any questions you have.
If you want a easy class TAKE HER CLASS. Literally you have to read powerpoints and then do the quizzes. Some on google , but also some on the powerpoints. You HAVE to write at least 250 words each week on a topic. It's more like your point of view on a topic. Not hard at all. I took it in the summer. No textbook or online code at all
Best class ever! She is such a sweetheart! Her lectures were interesting and not boring at all! All you have to do is show up and take notes. No homework, no textbook whatsoever (it's online), tests are open notes. There were only 4 tests in the entire semester and an essay that was essential to passing because it's a golden rule course.
Dynamite professor! She opened up my eyes to my own past experiences and how they affected me.
Greta professor. The lectures are so interesting you look forward to going to class. 4 tests, open notes. 1 research paper. Easy A. Attendance strict, after 3, you lose points but you can regain them by assignments.
Professor Smith is absolutely amazing. She truly cares about you as a student, and loves sociology. She puts her love into it, and makes you want to learn. All the test are open note. She gives chapter reviews that you can use on the test. And it is clearly stated how she wants her class to be. She wants you to participate, and attend class.
SHE IS AMAZING!! This is the only class that I actually look forward to going to! It is very interesting and the tests are so easy! VERY EASY!!
Has time to update her social media accounts. But no time to reply to the messages and emails of the students she so called 'care' about.
I took her online Intro to Sociology class and it was a great experience. The text book is free online, and the material was fascinating and I learned a lot. If you read and understand the text thoroughly, you will pass. The videos she made were also interesting and the online discussions were always thought-provoking. All around awesome professor.
I took intro with her. Great course.. The text is free online and the tests are open notes. Encourages everyone to speak. Easy A. She is a good communicator and replies to her emails fast.
Great course. Interesting lectures and interactive. She likes to hear you speak. There are 4 tests, each covering 3-4 chapters, open notes. No comprehensive final or midterm. One research paper also but due early in the semester. Strict attendance policy. But if you run into trouble with attendance you can submit make up assignment.
great class. great feedback and quick grader!
Class involves 4 test and 1 thousand worded essay. Intresting lectures although I felt she was very biased. The tests had many mistakes! Very strict on attendance and takes 10 points off if you miss more than 3 days.
Easy navigation. The book is online, but I used a printed version because its easier for me to study & highlight. 250 weekly post as well as a 50 word reply. 40 question open note exam. Tests can be time consuming so dont wait until the last minute. Stay on top of the discussion posts! If you dont get the word count, then you will NOT pass.
The online course SYG2000 has been a very interactive course.. There are weekly quizzes open book take home. Weekly discussions with controversial topics at times. You have to post an answer and comment to a classmate. The text is free online. She also uploads video lectures. Fast grading. Easy A.
I took two classes with her because she's hilarious and truly inspirational I recommend every from everywhere take Athena she is truly a joy
Took intro to socio online, found it very easy. Basically you have one 250 word discussion on a topic a week, and a 40 question test with no time limit a week. Test is 80% of your grade and disc is 20%. 80% answers found on quizlet. She's a very nice and kind teacher. Textbook was a free online book for our class ( fall 2015)
No book for this class, she gives PowerPoint info. Tests are tough because not all the info on the test is in the PowerPoint material. Good discussions. Interesting course. Would take again.
Great teacher. Interesting lectures. Would definitely take class with her again. No textbook. Just do the work and you should pass. Only complaint was questions on quiz not always from the power points or video.
Love this woman, greatest teacher I've had thus far. If you're taking Intro to Sociology I recommend her! If you take notes you will pass the class with an A. She is great!
Overall this class was okay, just okay. The tests can be confusing and sometimes it feels like the correct answer is more or less a matter of opinion. That being said I did learn a lot and the workload was not outrageous.
One of my favorite teachers at HCC, her class is really easy but she is strict such as attendace which she highly grades. She doesnt give you any work to do but if you take notes you will pass her test because its open notes, one of the best sociology teachers i highly recommend her.
One of the best teachers ive ever had, very respectable teacher who knows her stuff. She grades paper very quick and responds to her emails the same day, these were one of my favorite things about her. I have never rated a professor but i had to with Mrs Athena cause she is that AWESOME
This teacher is super amazing! All the tests are open note, and she is straight forward with what she expects from you.
She is really nice and very helpful. I took her class in the fall and I loved it. I would recommend her!
She gives you test and discussion that are expected to be done by Friday. There is a lot of reading . You also have to respond to peers . you have to ask for her help if you don't you wont get it this is a online class.
Passionate about her field of study. Always willing to help and her lecture are always interesting. Love her charisma and personality. Always a fun a class.
I am taking the express six week course online and it is well organized. The professor is dealing with those who do not know how to participate in the discussion by emailing the questions as well and by sending weekly reminders. She has released all tests from day one but every week certain tests expire. Great need to keep deadlines in mind.
Always is there for you to succeed and cares for her students. Gave many reminders and wants to give you the A. Test are a bit difficult, but definitely passible. The discussion is a lot, but is on interesting topics. Get it over with early it will make life easier. Great professor and would totally recommend her.
Could listen to her lecture all day. Very funny and sweet. She genuinely cares about her field of study and is very passionate. Always available and willing to help outside of class.
Her class was the worst I have ever taken. She has an attitude when talking one on one. Did not receive the help I was expecting. She is unapproachable and very rude. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I am taking Social problems with Dr Smith. We have controversial discussions in class . I look forward to every class now. All of her tests are open notes, if you have written your notes yourself. No comprehensive mid term, nor final. Five tests covering three chapters each and you have to participate on the discussion forum on Canvas.
Very Clear understanding of topic, you know what to expect each week. Easy A with effort.
Dr. Smith lets you use your notes on the tests so make sure you pay attention and show up to take notes and you'll get an A. She is very knowledgeable and easy to understand during class. No homework, only some online discussion to fulfill Gordon Rule.
Very interesting class. Lecture and notes everyday. She lets you use notes on tests. Nice and very approachable. I'm taking her again next semester for Sociology!
great teacher.
I took Smith my first semester at HCC and to this day it was one of the best classes I've taken. She's very kind and well rounded, always willing to help but does not do your work for you. I am taking Social Problems with her as a Distance Learning course next semester and expect nothing less! :)
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. I looked forward to waking up and going to her class. Tests are open notes. Amazing lectures. Amazing power-points.
Dr. Smith will open up your perspective to problems in society when you take her class. She fosters good discussion between herself and students, which was particularly enjoyable. Her lectures are eye-opening and insightful. You can tell that she genuinely cares about her students. Very sweet lady. Tests are open notes, so the course is easy.
Hey My Follow Peers. I am just wrapping up Spring 2017 semester and I wish that every Professor was like Professor Smith. This is one of the easy classes I have taken. There are no surprises with her. You don't have to pay for a book because you print it off line. Its a very straight forward class. Easy A! I PROMISE! TAKE HER YOU WONT REGRET IT!
Dr. Smith allows you to have a light workload (4 unit tests, 1 paper, and participation in debates) and still learn important facts about our society. She's a sweet lady, and one of the smartest people I have ever met. I am glad to have had her as a professor for two of my semesters at HCC. I also recommend her Social Problems (SYG 2010) class.
Mrs. Smith gives light workload and open book quizes and exams. If you do not show up for class you will pay for it. Keeps you engaged in topics and a wonderful and smart professor.
Very easy class. There is one discussion and one test every week. The book is online. As long as you do it you will pass. She drops lowest grade on both. Use the book while testing and you will easily pass. Easy A. She's nice and does not ask a lot.
Introduction to Sociology with Athena Smith was such an easy class: read a chapter and document, watch a video, take a quiz, and write a discussion post. No midterm or cumulative final. Her accent in her videos can be quite difficult to understand but she's good at responding to emails quickly.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! I took her online during the summer semester. She gave us the textbook link online so we didn't have to buy it. We just simply read the chapter and took a test on it. No assignments at all. (Besides Gordon rule assignment which everyone who did it received 100) PLEASEE TAKE HER! SHE IS A REAL GEM. she even drops your lowest test
This professor was AMAZING! Took her online during the summer term and only had 2 tests a week. The questions were straight from the book that she is kind enough to provide you with an online link for. Also had 1 paper that had to be 1200 words but it was a gordon rule assignment. As long as you put effort into it you will receive an A. TAKE HER!!
Shes funny and will probably call you out for sleeping and or using your phone
She is nice in the beginning, but gets grouchy towards the end of the semester. All of her tests are open notes and she gives you the answers to the in class quizzes. There is one 1000 word writing assignment that is super easy, just follow her guidelines.
If you read the material and directions, you will do great in this class. Ms. Smith is the easiest grader by far. The rules are drawn out and she'll answer any questions or concerns super quick. 100% recommend to everyone.
There are in class quizzes after every lecture. But those and her tests are all open notes. This class is an easy A. I thoroughly enjoyed the class though. She is humorous and makes little comments here and there that made me giggle. I would definitely take this professor again if I had the chance.
If you are looking to take a sociology course I would highly suggest taking Prof. Athena. She gives great feedback, the course itself is fair. It's not a bunch of busy work. You have one chapter to read, one quiz, and discussion every week. The quizzes are open book. Take her, you won't regret it.
Super easy and interesting class. Show up and take notes. Tests are open note and straight from power points. Quizzes are online, but in class, super short, and easy. This is a gorden rule class, so there was ONE essay. I think it was about 1200 words and a few cited sources. I think she graded the essays pretty leniently too.
She is an excellent professor. The only way you won't pass her class is if you are never in and even then you could pass it.
Proff. Smith was amazing! Took her online for Sociology and it was a great decision. Weekly discussions were very interesting and a good way to see others opinions. Tests due once a week, easy A if you use your textbook online. Also gives great feedback!!
I took Intro last semester. There are four open notes tests but you can not share notes. There are quizzes after each chapter. Also an essay for 1200 words. The lectures are interesting and she relates the material to current events. She has an attitude about cell phones. She helps you if you need it. It was a good course and I enjoyed it.
Although, Prof. Smith is a respected professor she fail in the ability to understand and correct her errors. Her approach/ ego truly take away from her charter as a professor.
I took Social Problems online. We had weekly take home tests and discussions. The discussions were controversial but the professor gave us very good feedback and added interesting articles. She gives extra credit if you write extra good and lengthy discussion posts. Highly recommend her.
she is a great professor. easy A. no textbook required to purchase. simply take the tests and participate in discussions. I would take her over & over!
It is an online class so you are responsible for the work and she is very upfront about the workload early on. Just warning you it is A LOT. Multiple tests a week and although you can use the textbook is it fully online and extremely hard to locate exactly what you're looking for. Her discussions require 600+ words. It was also during the summer.
I am taking her express course, online, and i get more feedback than any other online professor. Answers emails fast and explains her grading. Controversial online discussions. , interesting to read others experiences and opinions. Allows extra credit for good discussions. Allows early work so i finished the course a week early.
By far one of the best classes I have taken online - all tests are open book and have no time limit on them - discussions are a must but they are so easy, I finished them all in about a week in a half. Pay attention to due dates so you dont miss them. I took this during the summer so it was an express course but totally doable. Id take her again!
Great teacher, Easy A, Test questions come from textbook. Discussion posts are 300 words or you can do more for extra credit. Class is based off Discussions and Chapter test which is very easy. PASS WITH AN A!
Very well organized, no surprises. She gives great feedback. The six week summer course is intense however. In the last week we have 4 tests. I would recommend you take the 16 week one.
I took this class online this summer. I probably spent two hours a week on it. The instructions were very clear and the course was laid out well. Tests were direct quotes from the book. No essays. Just discussion boards. Highly recommend.
Super easy class! Great professor, answers emails quickly. No essays, no final. I finished the online class a month early. Take her !!!!
I love prof Smith. She is very well educated and genuinely cares!! Do the readings and take notes, there are quizzes that consists of like 5 questions + discussions but are superrr easy. Would take her again.
FREE TEXTBOOK! This was a very easy course, you just have to give your true opinions on the discussions which you have once a week (EC if you write more than required) and a 30 question quiz that is based off the textbook. She gives you a new prospective on topics, I found the class to be very interesting and there is no midterm or final!
Very knowledagble on what she is talking about. Mrs. Smith gives a lot of easy assignments for good grades. Tests are very easy and open note with a study guide correlating to questions on the test. if you take notes you will get an A
Professor Smith doesn't get off topic and is really focused when teaching. She allows us to use our notes from her power point on her 12 short quizes and on the tests. Instead of writing a 1200 word essay we have to complete four discussions online (250 words) before each test and there is no midterm or final!! She's amazing!!
Professor Smith is wonderful. Easy A if you take notes. You can use your notes on quizzes and tests. I definitely recommend taking her.
As long as you take notes and come to class (because after every chapter there is a quiz), you will pass with an A. All of her tests are open note and she is a wonderful professor.
This class consists of quizzes where the answers are straight from the online textbook and short discussions which is just a paragraph based on a topic supported by an article or video. No final exam. Super easy. Take her if you want an easy A!
All quizzes and tests are open notes. Dont skip her class because if theres a quiz that day then you wont be allowed to make it up. Overall, shes a good teacher. Some questions on her tests/quizzes require you to actually think. Not rely entirely on your notes.
In the online course we have to take weekly take home tests, and participate in a discussion forum. I was looking forward to each week's topic to be released. Ms Athena contributed to the discussion with information from recent research. She is kind and encourages you. I learned a lot.
What a wonderful lady, I did not speak in class but she never failed to make you feel engaged she has my respect and I wish the best for her!
I just finished her class. I was thinking I wasn't going to enjoy it but I really did. She is passionate about what she does. Her discussion posts are super easy and enjoyable in my opinion. Wish I could take her for other classes!
Heavy with powerpoints but take good notes, all tests and quizzes are open note. It looks like a lot of quizzes but they're only 5 questions each. Show up to class, she opens quizzes to people who were in class. Let her know if you have to leave early too. Really inspiring and made me have a more open-minded outlook on the world as a whole.
Prof Smith is a great choice if you're interested in sociology. She relates lectures to real world and makes it a class discussion. There are some tests but in my class they were open note and easy peasy. Just be there and take good notes (ppts are posted on canvas if you don't get everything). There are 5-? open-note quizzes after each chapter <3
She has all of the assignments already lined up and is organized. All you have to do is discussions and quizzes.
Best prof ever took her for online SYG2000 since i failed at the ybor campus and i passed her class with an A , textbook is free online & assignments are easy as well just do the work & youll pass
Professor Smith is great! She's funny and sarcastic and the powerpoints are easy. The tests are just like the powerpoints and she gives you a study guide you can use during tests and quizzes which is almost word for word. But you have to show up every class. There quizzes after each chapter and you only take the in class. That's why I got a C.
I will never take her class again in my life she literally puts up study guides for you to copy to tell you whats on the test mind you the test are open note and you use the answers you answered in the study guide because she tells those questions are in the test and still FAIL please make that make sense!!!!!!?!!??!!!?????
Professor Athena is my favorite teacher. She speaks with an accent, but her lectures are interesting and I learned many new things. Sociology is now my favorite subject. The book is free online and the tests open notes. You also have to take online quizzes at home and write a gordon rule paper.
I took social problems online. Although I took it as an elective, I liked the course and learned a lot. The lectures are interesting and the readings opened my eyes to problems elsewhere. We had weekly tests and discussions. You can get extra credit in the discussions. Ms Smith was kind to me and the course was well organized.
Dr. Smith has developed the course with her own lectures and an interactive discussion forum, where we dealt with some controversial topics. This is the first course I had where the prof participated in the discussion forum. I learned a lot and I strongly recommend her.
Amazing professor. She participates in online discussions, as well as gives regular feedback. She also does professors thoughts on each topic. Amazing professor who makes it interesting with relevant assignments.
Gives you a ton of extra credit opportunities. Allows you to speak your mind and have a freedom of opinion. No midterm. No final exam. One discussion and one test a week. I ended the class with over 100%. Theres no reason you should fail. I would 10/10 take any class she teaches. Sociology was my favorite this semester.
We would have open notes test, but the notes barley helped you with your test. The test were very hard. I couldnt do any other extra work besides participate and obviously take her test. Those were your two grading methods.
I am enrolling again next semester for SYG2000 because I had to withdraw last March. Professor Smith was always prepared, kind and made learning fun. Our exams were open notes and I found I had little stress when taking them. Monthly tests, no final. We had to submit an essay too.
It's not very much work a Discussion and Test every week, however the tests affect the grade a lot more, not very much to take notes off of, no time limit on the tests and only one chance to take them.
Very well organized online course that taught me a lot about social issues. A discussion and a test weekly. Tests are take home. The professor grades fast. Text free online. I definitely recommend her.
I absolutely loved Professor Smith, she was engaging and always available to help. I took this class online and she made it extremely easy to stay on top of things. The work was paced nicely and the tests only covered material for each chapter, nothing that wasn't in the text.
I loved Ms Athena. She was kind and patient, and made the class fun, no matter how hard it was with masks and everything. Often brought examples from the real world. I have a different perspective now. One in class quiz after each chapter and 3 short essays. No final.
Professor Smith is the most involved professor I have ever seen. She even participates in discussion posts. She WANTS you to pass with an A in her class. All tests are open book, all discussions have chances for extra credit, AND she drops your 2 lowest grades. It's hard to NOT get an A in this class. I have a 108% right now and I learned a ton.
She is awesome and encourages us to speak our mind. There is an in class quiz after every chapter. I learned a lot and I wish her the best.
There is a test and a discussion for every chapter, but the test is 30 questions and open note. The discussions are very easy and she give you extra credit opportunity for every one. She does have videos to elaborate on each chapter but you don't have to watch them. This is an easy A, only test and discussions no assignments no papers.
The professor was AMAZING! I learned a lot and encouraged every student to participate. There is a short test after each chapter, but not a mid term nor final.
This is the best and most interesting online course you can take. Well organized so you don't miss deadlines. She often sends reminders. The discussions were vibrant and you enjoy reading people's opinions. She has uploaded lectures with her own thoughts on the chapters, quite original lectures exploring the issue beyond what the text says.
If you need to take sociology use her. She was a great professor! Has an accent though so if you have trouble hearing just be aware. Highly recommend :)
This was a difficult semester wearing masks and going to a campus with little life. But the professor was awesome. I looked forward to each lecture and I learned a new thing every time. There were 3 written discussions and a test after each chapter. I wish I could take another class with her but I will not do online classes.
I definitely recommend Professor Smith's course. It was definitely one of my favorite courses I have taken so far. After every chapter there was a quick quiz that was not timed. There is no final. However there is four written discussion on different subjects that are 250 words, though she allows extra credit for them as-well
I took a 6 week summer course with Professor Smith and the assignments were straightforward and interesting. If you give a good amount of effort on discussions, you can receive extra credit. I would highly recommend taking this course with this professor.
Best Professor I have ever had. I was not expecting this class was going to be so interesting. I am learning a lot with Professor Smith. Her modules are easy to navigate and the videos of her own thoughts about the subject are what make my online learning experience unique. Only quiz(open book) and Discussion which she gives plenty of extra credits
Dr. Smith was great. She provided narrated PowerPoints which were very helpful. She also provided feedback for each discussion board. Tests were taken directly from PowerPoint and any articles provided. She drops your lowest exam score. 10 Discussions, & 14 (easy) tests. Highly recommend. Ebook is required, but she provides a free link to text,
Best Professor Ive ever had! I learned so much in this class and i actually became smarter in topics that I was very ignorant before I wish we had more professors like her who really care about their students and make learning fun and interesting. As long as you attend the lectures and go over the notes youll get an A for sure!
She is by far the best professor you will ever have her class is super easy that it is impossible for you to fail. Professor Smith provides you with youtube lectures on the subject you working on which makes things 10x easier to do you work I HIGHLY recommend her to anyone taking sociology.
I honestly enjoyed her class so much, and I learned a lot. She lets you use your notes for the tests, but if you pay attention to the lectures you wont even need them. Shes also very understanding, and really wants you to succeed, some people asked her for a study guide, and she would even review with us.
Probably the most interactive online course I have ever taken. You have weekly take home tests and discussions. The book is free online. Athena replied recorded her replies to every post I had written and gave me extra information. I feel I have a better understanding of society. I would definitely take another online course with Athena.
Easy A. Take home tests and weekly discussions. I would take her again.
The most interactive online course I have taken. Athena has uploaded video lectures presenting other perspectives by using world events. I truly felt I was learning. There are weekly discussions and she provided individualized video responses. She graded fast and allowed late submissions with a penalty. She motivated me to learn.
Easy A. Simple lectures and easy tests. All you have to do is show up and take notes and the tests are open notes. Very easy.
SUPER EASY CLASS! She teaches through her powerpoints and all are available on Canvas. Open note tests. One online comprehensive test that is also open note. You have to participate but literally only have to answer 5 questions for the month and you're done. Just show up for participation points and the reviews for tests and you'll get an A.
Really great professor! She is very caring and her discussions really make you think and spark differing views. I really wish more teachers were like her! She lets you use your notes on the tests. She does an amazing review the class before the exam as well. She gives you full credit on your papers as long as you just try
Amazing professor
For 22/SU-SYG-2000-67528 Intro to Sociology, except weekly open book quizzes that are fairly simple and a larger discussion post towards then (1,000 words answering 3 questions) and if you write more you can receive extra credit!
This is an easy A class. As long as you do the work you will pass with flying colors. Highly recommend!
Super awesome and easy class for it is the intro to sociology, she makes PowerPoint based on the textbook so you do not have to buy one, and then you take a quiz based on said powerpoints that are super easy. amazing professor
Great professor! Gives so much feedback on assignments and all assignments are easy! Highly recommend!
Athena Smith is by far my favorite HCC professor. She responds to discussion posts with a video to talk about how you did and to add to something you said. It is very easy to pass with an A, I ended with a 101%. For every 100 words over the required word count you get 2 extra credit points, with a max of 30. Tests are also open-book and untimed.
Professor Smith is easy going. She gives you updates about the assignments and lets you know there is a late penalty. There are a lot of quizzes on reading material, but the book is free. You do have to do an essay towards the end. Do the work. You will pass.
she's such an amazing professor, assignments are very straight to the point. She also gives amazing feedback. i def reccommend her.
when i mean to tell you best teacher at HCC.
Professor Athena is super easy. I recommend you to take her class, not the online one.
I will miss Dr Smith's class. Her lectures were amazing and I learned a lot about the causes of current events. There are four tests, open notes. She gives review sessions. Not strict about test dates. I missed the first test because my car broke down and she emailed me that she left the test at the test center for me. Grades fast.
Truly cares about learning the students different perspectives. Informative lectures that are easy to follow along with. Provides study guides with questions to answer based off of the information on the Power Point slides. Open note testing and allows for extra time if necessary. One personal experience essay. Easy and interesting class.
I am taking a six week course with Dr. Smith. Although I don't post reviews, I have to say this: Early on, all of the professor's lectures were deleted by IT. My understanding is that it was done by mistake. She recorded new ones, all in a week. I believe she is committed to her students. I would recommend her.
I took a 6 week course with Dr SmThe tests are all open book with access to a free digital textbook. There
Professor Smith's class is a breeze! With open-note tests, simple quizzes, and helpful video feedback, it's an easy A. I used unstuckstudy ai alongside the free textbook to stay on top of the material. Definitely take this class if you can!
Professor Smith is so incredible. Honorlock isn't used. It's mainly discussions and tests, but she records lectures that you can watch and they're so great. I struggled with the tests but you can get extra credit with the discussion posts. She's so sweet I definitely recommend taking her.
She was kind and compassionate. I took her twice. The only thing I would say is dont procasinate and finish your assignments and you will pass. Tests are easy
Amazing professor I went from taking the class to get it over with to actively participating and looking forward to the class. Professor Smith is able to grab the attention of the whole class and make then interesting and understand the material. Tests are OPEN NOTE and she goes over most of the questions before the test please take this professor!
Dr. Smith was by far one of my favorite professors I've had the pleasure of learning from. She is very knowledgeable about the field of sociology and really helps her students in understanding the complexities of how our society truly functions on a small and grand scale.
I was apprehensive about taking American Government but the course was easy and interesting. Text is free. Weekly tests and discussions. The professor was very good, and had uploaded lectures on how the content applied on our everyday lives. She is kind and approachable. Replies fast.
