very smart man but does not know how to teach

For the first few weeks he is merciless, but you learn to do things his way. When you get about half way through you notice that the class of 32 you knew from the first day is now dwindling at about 16 or so, once he weeds those out who don't do it his way, he loosens up and you can actually learn. One must admit that he knows his stuff.
Actually, I dropped the class the first day I attended his class. He handed out critiques his old students had written about him and I was HORRIFIED!
very very strict.
He doesn't use a textbook but hands out packets of info, including samples of his tests. He has a different way of doing things. Be prepared - know ALL of your Precalc. I was not prepared and so dropped the class while I could still get a 50% refund. I think Bagchi is probably a brilliant man and it's obvious that he loves math.
he is the most horrible teacher ever!!! Don't take him!! he is very very strict...if you were one minute late for class...he won't even let you in...and you can't even say "God bless you" to someone who sneezes....His teaching style is rather eccentric..he can not teach
He doesn't teach in American...Math is supposed to be a universial language, and I was lost from the door. I dropped his class the third day, giving him some credit and thought he would come around, however, you couldn't even ask questions!! I need that in a math class!
So, yes hes very strict. Only take him if you've had algebra before and have somewhat of a knowledge of what you are doing. I took this class and walked out with a B. Tests are open book however it doesnt make the class easy. Dont ask questions. If you like algebra and are GOOD at it, give him a shot. Little hard to understand his accent sometimes.

Thereis an air of pretense in his class, but in the end, you learn an awful lot. He is somewhat rigid in his stances, even when shown wrong. I don't think this is done maliciously, but only because of insecurity. Regardless, CCP is lucky to have instructors like him, and he stimulated me to become a math teacher.
very hard and not clear
He has a very ANAL teaching style. Everything has to be done HIS way. For God's Sake, the material in Algebra 118 is taught in many high schools but he made it much more difficult to learn. Even though the handouts and textbook was extremely helpful, his in class lectures and explanations were not.
He's a horrible teacher, not helpful at all, not allowed to ask questions, he doesn't use a textbook, has you do an insane amount of unncessary preparation for his anal teaching style. Would not recommend!
This guy handed out a BOOKLET of reviews about him and his course. They were all bad! He started to badmouth this country, too. I went to ONE of this nut's classes before I transferred. You could do better...MUCH better.
This clss is awful. Dropp immediately,by the time you add the packets your book bag will be 10 pounds heavier. He is a smart ass, so don't ask him questions, especially about 017 material. Class is confusing and he goes to fast for some to understand. STAY AWAY! RUN FAST!
MAth is something i m best at and i never got lower than an "A" in math. I did the most work in his class and still got a "B". This teacher is very unfair, very hard, and will amke u do insane amount of work. DO NOT RECCOMEND unless ur a math. major.
He is very anal!! If you are one minute late for his class he will not let you in! He hands out these packets and they have a million things in them about his class. He is insane and he goes so fast you can barely understand. I would not advise anyone to take his class, if you are planning on taking him PLEASE RECONSIDER....seriously!
LOL. I didn't have this teacher, but I was curious to know why 11 people came to my class from him the first day of school. My gf told me that he is nuts. A girl dropped her pencil, someone picked it up and handed it to her,she said ty, Bagchi went nuts on her for talking and threw her out.He looks like a nice Buddhist monk to me.
This guy is mentally Ill. I dropped his class half-way through my second class. He makes it seem like Math comes before anything else, and thats not life. My suggestions are: Dont take His class---This man's in need of female attention Asap
Why is everyone against this man? Most of the hate comes from people who does not like Math, or just rather be "hanging" outside, rather than learn. He is an average teacher, but vey stern with procedures. I had his class because I had to take it, but it was not that bad at all. If you want to hang out all day outside, then this is not the class.
He is hard. only because he doesnt acutally teach the materials and break stuff down. He expects you to know whats goign on from the 30 examples he makes you write in class.I dropped his class half way through i wouldnt recommend him at all
He is strict in the class. Never get late to his class. Keep the class material neat and go to the tutor as often as you can. Try to copy down whatever he write on the board for you will need them in the open book exam. Remember, be on time to the class.
He is a hard teacher y i do not recoment him to nobody. He is like a dictetor
Treat you like a kid. Expects you to have a binder, pencil case (yes you reading correctly), 3 pens and pencils, ruler, etc. We're in college and he thinks this is grade school. Stay away or your'll be wasting a semester and money.
This man feeds off of people telling him that they hate him. His insecurity about himself is incredible. Nothing else can explain the entire book of critiques about his class he hands out. Must have killed an entire forest.
He's horrible. He refuses to help and tells the students everyday that their intelligence levels are inadequate.
I hated the class so much. He can't teach. It was either his way or no way. I had to transfer out of his class, cuz there was no way that I was going to pass. He was horriable
Yo For real... If you have This man.. You will have nightmare.. You will come out of class saying.. I hate this man. He makes you feel so dumb and retarded... DO NOT TAKE ATISH BAGCHI.. IF YOU DO.. YOU WILL HAVE A HEART ATTACK..
Professor Bagish is totally insensetive to students' needs or thier various level of math. From day one it was clear to me that I would not pass this class because the professor allow now room to mistakes or improvement. If you failed the very first exam you failed the entire course, which I think in unfair given the fact he can't teach!
the problem on the book for so easy for me but he make everything extremly hard, and he talk very fast with his accent and i could barely understand him,he shouldn't be teach in the school!!
Professor Bagchi... That Man.. I hate him.. Worse Professor.. First day handing out stuff like the Yellow Pages.. he was a Hot mess.. Everyone failed the the quizes... 1st day 40 kids.. 2 week 7 people left... Please don't take this man... Do your self a favor and drop ASAP...
He is so over the top with his "teaching" that it is too hard to understand him. You have learned one way your whole life but he refuses to teacht that way. Then on tests he decides to word it completely different then stated in class. You pretty much have to teach yourself and know the material already to understand anything in that class
Took Linear Algebra with him. He is the worst you could imagine. I have a 3.89 GPA but I still could not manage to succeed in his class I ended up taking it again with Santos (finally got an A in Santos's class who is still not easy -only two of us got 'A's- but at least he is a clear & good teacher so you can manage to learn; in Bagchi's class you
its true, hes hard. but honestly, i dont think hes so bad. hes just extremely precise and it just so happens that most people just cant follow directions. i never had a more precise teacher. he tells you exactly what you need to know. people just dont listen. if you want an easy A, dont take him. hes for students that want more of a challenge.
are you people kidding??? hes freaking easy. people dont realize how easy his class really is. his tests are open book, he practically gives out 60 EEEAAASSSYYY points to your average. people just get scared way to fast and dont bother trying. seriously, just pay attention and dont miss class. not that hard to do. i never did his homework either
I can't believe this man is still working here. This guy is so ANAL!!!!! UNLESS U WANT TO HAVE A MATH STROKE, DROP HIM!!!!UGH!
So many bad reviews. The man is a genius. Just because he requires students to actually think for themselves and work hard does not make him a an unfair teacher. If you put the effort in and use your brain you will get more out of his class than you will from any math course offered at ccp. Also, if you're going to criticize someone it helps to be
Mr. Bagchi is the kind of teacher that acts like a scary man in th first couple classes in order to get rid of the people who aren't serious about math. He has his way of teacher and it takes a bit to get used to but once you do, the class isnt that bad.
he's a nice teacher but he doesn't know how to teach. Unclear teaching and expect students to understand and figure out everything themselves!!
Nursing students avoid his class especially during the summer. He is so anal and will not help you. He tells you think twice before taking another MATH. Even Math majors could not catch a break and even got C's as well. He makes everything in Math harder than it should be especially this class. This class should be called "buyer beware 101".
Prof. Bagchi's is hard, but if you are doing everything as he asks you're good. I got "A" in his class, however my GPA less than 3.5. From this professor you'll learn a lot.
Basically,I had to drop..If you need that class to graduate, don't take him. He's a tyrant. He won't let you take any test unless you have everything on the required supplies list, down to the eraser and 6 inch ruler we never used. I never had a problem with a teacher b4 him. Please, take another section.
Atish is the man. I don't know understand what the problem some of you are having with him. Here's what you do in his classes. Write for what seems like forever. Then when he says any questions? You tell him that you don't understand algorithm x. He will then explain it again. Do the homework and ask questions and the correlation is you pass!
Professor Atish is birlliant and with brilliance comes content to those who are not, I refused to drop his class as many did before because I love a challenge, knowing math verbage is extremely important as he will purposely cover the board as he's writing so you can't just copy the examples, he loves math and hates anyone who tries to skate by
Atish is a good egg. The only problem with his lectures is that in order to understand what he is explaining, you MUST UNDERSTAND MATHEMATICAL NOTATION S!!!Realize this... Every symbol on the board should be read by the notation's definition. Ex. (∀ a ∈ A | A ∈ M_(m×n)) (For all a in A where A is a m by n Matrix) *Do this and Li
This is one of the worst TEACHERS in the WORLD.....Please Im Worrning you....DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER....I wish the firer this guy...and its crazy cause he supper smart he just dont know how to teach, SMH....anyway..Dont take him..!!!
He is a good person but NOT a good teacher. No textbook used in the class makes students confused what he teaches. How come he get hired teaching Math? Guy, just drop the class to save you time and GPA before troubling you.
I took Calculus I with him and switched the class to another one after one week. He teaches Math using his own terminology not what books say. I tried to get some help from tutors but they don't even know how to handle this. This person shouldn't be teaching. In the class he pretends that he is super smart and he compares himself to a computer.
Switched to this class for convenience. Switched back same night. Acted rudely, disdainfully towards students, negative & irrational. Hard to understand. Attempted to scare students out of class before we even started material. No need to be so harsh; we're there to learn, not to walk on egg shells. Glad I went back to my original class-I have an A
I rated below- incorrectly listed class as "Math 002". I am in Math 251- Statistics
this teacher should not be teaching! he scare student from the first class. is hard to understand even we have the book, but he changed a lot of things. so confused! he is not willing to help!!! even he gave out exam packages for students to study, in the real test, is different!!! save yourself time and protect your GPA, DO NOT Take HIM!!!!!!!><
Atish's class is actually very easy. Follow his directions and you will be fine. You get 60 free points for doing critiques and TYPING the homework (not even completing it!!) The tests are not that hard. The thing is, if you take him for a higher level math, you better know your prereqs. I learned more from him than any other math teacher, period.
I took Dr. Bagchi for discrete math. He is very knowledgable, personable, and fair.He is not an effective teacher though. We used a Shaums Outline guide instead of a text which was a disadvantage. The class finished with only four students;only two of which got above a grade of D. Paradoxically I really enjoyed his class.I fear taking him again though
I told the class twice the time i received a D. You will get out the class what you put into it. The Second time around, the information was clearer, he was more social and he took his time and answered more question. Overall if i had to i would take the class again i like it.
Calculus III with Dr. Bagchi was much easier than I had anticipated. He took the time to explain the concepts in much detail and did many examples demonstrating the concepts. I did not find the Schaum's Series that he "prescibes" very helpful for this class.
This professor is intense the first week of class and has a habit of weeding out the weak early on. Have no fear, if you are determined and willing to put in the time and work you will do fine in the class. Otherwise drop the class and at least get a partial refund. FYI don't miss class, he will notice and call you out on it.
Bagchi is a great teacher who loves his job. He is not an easy A but if your a hard worker it is possible. Not to mention you will actually learn something and see how to use everything you have learned in previous courses. GOOD LUCK and do not give up.
Avoid him at all costs for 121. He does not use a real textbook. He provides 1 or 2 examples of each "type" of problem before testing you on it. He often refuses to answer questions. He doesn't really teach. Instead,he shows you math and expects you to figure it out. Although he gives definitions,he refuses to give instructions or explanations.
What a pain... Such an interesting subject but the man is incredibly incomprehensible in class. He moves FAST. So, unless you are a HARD worker or have a solid grasp of the prerequisites already, his lectures will likely leave you puzzled. He is a fast writer and I found myself struggling to keep up with my notes, let alone the subject at hand.
WARNING.... Do not spend your time taking this class if you are not an Einstein! This professor is for most the strictest and most demanded person you'll ever meet. He does not teach the material step by step, excepts everyone to be math wise as as a prerequisites. It's very frustrating to see 25 out of 35 people already dropped his class.
This professior is not bad. He's not an easy A but he's fair about grading. His exams are not to hard HE GIVES YOU 60 POINTS FOR DOING 2 CRITIQUES AND 2 ASSIGNMENTS. THE ASSINGNMENT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE COMPLETED.
He want you to learn math. He's a great teacher. He will gives you 60 points bonus for doing the assignments and critiques.
Do not take his class. He will force you to do everything exactly as he says, from what type of pencil you write with all the way to exactly how you should take notes. He will also penalize and publicly correct you in the middle of class if you stray. He clearly knows what he's talking about, but he's a bad teacher. I dislike this subject now.
Dropped his class the moment he said he won't allow us to take his test if we didn't have TWO erasers and a 6 inch ruler. If your ruler was 12 inches we weren't allowed to take a test and got a zero. Seriously!
Brilliant, abrasive, intensely theoretical, rigid, punctual. Probably certifiably insane. Learned a some formal logic and had some interesting philosophical discussions; too bad I had to take Stats again.
I had to take the class twice, his system is by points and he is very strict with it. Dont think that if your a point short he will just give it to you he wont. He is a great teacher but paying a attention and asking question is a MUST!! All materials are a MUST!! Math is my weakest subject but I would take him again.
One of the hardest classes I've taken. Be prepared to work your butt off if you want to have any hope of getting an A. Bagchi is smart and knows his stuff, but is not very good at teaching in a way that's clear to the average student.
I heard the horror stories, but even the most harden teacher acknowledges their students if they take the work seriously. Not only did I do everything that was asked, I even completely redid my notes so that they would be perfect. The only thing I asked him to do, was check them, and insulted me, and told me I don't belong if I'm having problems.
Professor Bagchi genuinely cares about his students. He can be intimidating at first but you can get through and pass his classes as long as you try. His rules about bringing rulers and erasers are a way to weed out the weak and find students who are interested in learning math and not just taking the class because they have to.
he is not a teacher anyone should recommend to a student trying to succeed, his methods of teaching are alien compared to others and is confusing to retain.
to a student trying to succeed, he is not a teacher anyone should recommend, for his methods of teaching are alien compared to others and is confusing to retain.
Have no idea what we were doing or learning.
This professor's way of teaching is BARELY good. There is no text book, everything is done on a Engineering computation book (NO REGULAR PAPER), and for students who are new to CCP and want to learn, DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!
This semester was by far the toughest semester, due to him. He is a very tough grader, his class consist of NO TEXTBOOKS, and he is very peevish with students who talk. I truly would not recommend this professor to no one.
He dosn't mind if you don't understand something he just wants you to write everything that he is writing which he does write a lot. Has some stupid rules that you have to obey all the time
Professor Bagchi is definitely the most interesting professor I've had at CCP. The whole class is basically a big lesson in following directions. If you do exactly what is asked of you, you will get a good grade. He gets angry when students question what is asked of them, so just do what is asked of you. Also, do not be late for class.
Just don't take this class trust me. You will regret everything.
He is very theoretical and believes that proof is the main thing missing from many modern mathematical instruction. In my Computer Maths & Logic class, he allowed open bookopen notes but expects you to follow all of his instructions to his exact specifications, including what pencil type & paper to use. Ask about anything AT ALL you wonder about.
I have run 3 marathons and they were easier than this mans class. He does not know how to teach and ridicules students for asking questions! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! Unless you're feeling like having your day and gpa ruined
He love to make students laugh but when it come to a serious question that deal with math, he give a smart reply back. I had try asking for his help but he blew me off and it was after class. To find what my weakness on math. I spend 5 hours a day in tutors to understand his math, funny part is THIS IS BASIC MATH! not ROCKET SCIENCE.
Worse teacher ever, He does not teach. He wants to show that he is the smartest. I think people should ask for their money back. Community College of Philadelphia should be sued because some students work very hard to get the money to pay for school. This is not Europe or India were schools are free. We pay for it and we deserve to be taught. Bad
Like many comments before, this guy is TOUGH. His toughness is warranted because he is trying to challenge your way of thinking about math. Strict grader, strict rules for acting in class, strict everything. He WONT try to coddle you through math with easy explanations and he WONT hold your hand through the learning process. Work Hard do good.
If you learn math by practicing problems don't take his class. He doesn't teach out of the book. He gives out a set of homework problems but refuses to give the answers. He gives out a set of practice tests with answers but purposely puts wrong answers on some of the problems. He acts like he wants students to fail.
I got the first test back and I received a F even though I should have gotten a B. He didn't give me any points for multiple questions I had gotten correctly because of aligning my equal signs left center instead of perfectly left. His directions can be unclear and he tests on comprehending his unclear directions not knowledge of the subject materi
Attend class to have a chance. Bad ratings from people who don't follow instructions. The material seems harder than it really is, you have to learn and use your brain. Talk to him after class he is very friendly and interesting. You will not be able to coast through this class but you will become a more intelligent person if you apply yourself.
Don't take his class if you want to save money and time, don't even try taking this class he a teacher that feel good seeing student fail, he make you feel like your in grade school again, first rule in his class is you can't leave his room without asking and etc.
Bagchi is one of the smartest people I have ever met. His constant pursuit to force you to define, analyze, and prove/disprove things are skills that people take for granted. He is the epitome of a GREAT TEACHER and one that I strive to be in the future. He could be teaching at schools FAR more esteemed than CCP, so appreciate that!
He is a very good professor. If you study and pay attention in class, exams are easy. You can bring your note when exams. You don't need to buy text book. You just need to follow his roles. If you don't understand, go to visit his office. He explained to you.
Dr. Bagchi is the most challenging professor I ever learned under, and one of the top 3 most interesting teachers in my opinion at the college. His class stresses concepts: The ability to think analytically, discipline, and hard work. He applies these concepts heavily to highlight mathematical rigour. He will push you to your limits.
Atish was one of the most difficult people ive ever met in my life. Do your self a favor and stay out of this one.
You will learn a lot from his classes, but you have to work hard. I've taken discrete math, calc 2, linear algebra and calc 3 with him.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken at CCP. Everything he tells you on the first day, is not a lie. I wanted to drop the class, but couldn't because I needed it to graduate this semester and I am glad I didn't. We had 11 students left. He lightens up when this happens. If you can stick through it, do it. I managed to somehow get an A.
If you are interested in studying higher level math, I would avoid Bagchi. There is no textbook or website to accompany the course. If you think he is making it up as he goes, you wouldn't be far off. Retaking calc III at a four-year university after this shows how much is missing from class.
He's my favorite professor. Very rigid way of doing things. Class consists of 100% taking notes while Prof. Bagchi gives definitions and examples (and sometimes tells cool stories). Tests are open notes and you will need them. Does not give partial credit. Just do what he says and you will get an A, but that is easier said than done.
Stay away at all costs took stats with this guy, insanely difficult not really because of his content but the speed at which he expects to keep up with and refusal to answer answer questions/repeat anything. Also is extremely rude to people and gets off on knowing more than the class he is teaching. Over half the class dropped after 1 month
I took Discrete Math (MATH163) with Dr. Bagchi in Fall 2013. I went on to study math at Penn, and now work as an actuary. Professor Bagchi's teaching style communicates concepts clearly and with almost no ambiguity. But here's the catch - you have to follow the instructions. The learning potential is great provided you put in your share of effort.
He has a cruel way of teaching.
The best and smartest math professor I ever had. He is one of the few in the world that researches in category theory and regularly lectures at MSRI dot org where only the very best math scientists from around the country are invited by the National Science Foundation and the NSA. Thank you Prof. Bagchi for your inspiration and empowerment
Attending school since Pre-k to now attaining my Bachelors this Spring; this professor by far has been the most difficult instructor I've ever come across.
Professor Bachi is kind of a pill. He comes across as arrogant, but it really is because he knows better than you. Take it early in your program. If you can't pass then switch majors, as the fail rate is over 60%
Took him for 163 Discrete Mathematics I. One of the hardest teachers in the school. To pass; GO TO TUTORING, WORK WITH CLASSMATES, and COPY BACKTESTS (LOCATED AT TUTORING). First half is hell, but second half is free points. SURVIVE, MAKE A STUDY GROUP, GO TO TUTORING, WORK WITH CLASSMATES, COPY BACKTESTS. NEVER GIVE UP! DONT QUIT! YOU CAN DO IT!!
The worst teacher I have seen. I felt like I'm in an elementary school. Two unopened pack of lead, two erasers, 6-inch roller... Really boring teacher. Standing at the door to lock it at 1.00. So, if you are late one minute just go back home. Also, turn off your phone out of the class, raise up your hand for the bathroom, and a lot of surprises...
If you love learning and you love math, you will love Dr. Bagchi. His 163 class is excruciating, don't get me wrong, but it will make you a better person. I'll be retaking it soon, as well as his linear algebra course. He's really, really smart and super funny once he gets to know you.
He was so bad. My anger was up to the sky.
I think you have to take this professor for Math163. Just go to the tutors every week and do good on your first exam. I REPEAT DO GOOD ON YOUR FIRST EXAM. I would also advice you not to take it when you are enrolled in a lot of courses or on the summer. Only take it as 15 week class. It is hard, but just get it over with.
It is obvious looking at the other review on Bagchi that this class is not for everyone. He is without a doubt the hardest professor I have ever encountered, but that does not come without it's rewards. If you truly care about your education, I couldn't recommend his class any more. He will push you hard, and you'll be better because of it.
I took 163 & 270 fall 2018 and had to drop because of my job. The basic keys to passing a Bagchi class like any other are as follows: FOLLOW instructions! Do research and review core concepts before registering(Edx, Coursera etc). Dedicate study time! Tutoring & study groups, YOUR BESTFRIENDS There are others you will learn while in the class.
Bagchi is by far the toughest professor I've ever had, and likely the toughest you'll ever have. He's a mix between a monk, a drill sergeant, and Mary Poppins, and he shows no mercy. You will not "enjoy" his class, but if you group up with other students, and go to tutoring, you will pass, and you'll learn a LOT! Take 163 with him first, or suffer.
A boring and dunting teacher you'll ever encounter at ccp. he is so strict that he doesn't follow the book assigned for the course, all the tests and notes are symbolic and not easily understandable, the worst teacher ever.
This was the hardest class that I have ever taken. He is very strict and difficult. He won't allow you in if you're 1 minute late and you have to turn off your phone. There were 36 students in the class and about 25 people dropped by the 2nd day. Made a class that you could of gotten an A,B, or C into dropping it. Won' t recommend to him to anyone.
He's a great professor depending on how serious you are about your education. CCP doesn't challenge it's students enough and these ratings clearly show it.
Bagchi will teach you the graph theory that leads to your soul. Honestly, what else can you need? Open book, easy to understand, and reasonable grading scheme.
The professor is very good depending on your education. At my suggestion, when you listen to the professor's lecture while you read the textbook online for translation. It's very helpful.
Dr. Bagchi is a legend, People you should avoid will speak ill of him. He is brilliant. He wants you to do well. He expects that he and his class will be given proper respect, he deserves it. Take every class you can with him, just be ready to work really hard and collaborate with your classmates to finish his daunting take home exams.
Poorly utilizes class time, gives out tons of work with unreasonable requirements. Stubborn and disrespectful whenever he makes a mistake. He gives out exams with materials he hasn't taught you, so most of the class had to copy each other's work. Ridiculous how some people like this guy because he cHaLlEnGeS the students. Take Hunts if possible.
THE MOST Strict professor ever. If you can, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He gave no lectures (for online), only gave some notes, no further explanations, nothing. DO NOT expect anything from him. The only thing you will get is a list of instructions about his rule. THIS IS HIS WORLD and EVERYTHING is HIS RULE.
He is such an awful professor!!
His course was the worse course that I took at CCP. It is a total time and money waste. You do not learn Math in his course; you only learn Bagchi's rules. He has weird, strict rules. There is no zoom classes, video lectures, sufficient course material, and office hours. Do not take this course if you really want to learn Math.
I wouldn't recommend Professor Bagchi. For online he provides no lectures. You get pages of notes that I found difficult to understand. A grad student went over questions but I didn't find him to be very helpful. I didn't find the class to be to excessively difficult but it is a lot of work. I should have payed youtube instead of CCP for this class
I attempted to take his Linear Algebra class online twice. I don't understand how he gets paid. You use notes that were typed up by a previous student. There is no lecture or communication with the teacher. He just refers you to study sessions with tutors. There's no feedback on exams to clarify things. Poor excuse for a teacher
One of the best professors I have every had! I had him more than 20 years ago and went on to get 2 graduate degrees, but Professor Bagchi is one of the only ones that I still remember and mention when talking about good professors. His approach value developing an understanding mathematics in the abstract, which is much more powerful.
bagchis whole personality and work ethic can be summed up in two cs: convoluted & condescending. his test instructions are two full pages long, his only study material, a notes packet he wrote, is unusable, and he constantly rants of past students mistakes. its no surprise that hes resorted to have alum run a discord for the class to self-teach
didnt know i could find someone worse than nelson craig...
"You have absolutely NO freedom regarding the manner in which you present work" Anyway, the tutors are the ones teaching this class, he just provides the notes.
So he only provides notes, guess what half the questions on the notes say? "Figure it out yourself" I wish i was kidding... not only that, but the notes are completely different than the actual exams. If you are a visual learner then good luck. Actually, if you are any type of learner then good luck.
Tbh, if you follow all million instructions that he has then you can easily pass this class with a B or A. The tutor we had was terrible, but luckily bagchi lets students help each other and even shows previous solved exams. I disagree with his teaching style and the notes are really messy, but the class is easy if u look at the solved exams.
Litterally belittles you in emails when he has yet to so much as show his face. No lectures, or proper videos to teach you, just his very difficult to read notes. And exams that litterally take a week to do.
Bagchi is by far the hardest professor at CCP but his classes are worth it. If you get to know him, he will be your favorite professor. Don't be scared of the other students in here complaining, his classes are very hard but with time you will master the material. I would take someone else if you don't have the time or energy for his classes.
I did not expect that community college class would be that difficult when Bagchi was the only person who could teach math163. He's a toughest grader I've seen, none of the documents that he provided could help you to solve the homework.
Bagchi doesn't teach. He wrote some terribly confusing notes years ago and hands them out at the beginning of the year and does nothing else. He seemingly spends all his time coming up with lengthy responses to student emails where he explains why he will not answer your question. His usual response is to "look at the notes". Rude, Unhelpful, Lazy.
I took him a year ago, but i still get emails of him BEGGING people to enroll in his courses lmaooo. And he gets other students to talk about how "great" the course is. The whole course is self taught and the only way to pass is by trying to make sense of the solved exams. Or asking a friend who took him the previous semester to send u their exam
"My students tell me that if one takes this class during the summer, one must understand that one will have no life at all during these seven weeks. "
Sad excuse for a professor. He is rude and condescending all while doing zero teaching. He posts a set of notes and does nothing further. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from him.
Be aware of the format you submit!
Just run away. Terrible professor.
Worst professor I've ever had
Possibly the worst professor I have ever met in my entire life. It's 2024, the only thing we have to learn from is notes that he took 10 years ago. Not one lecture, not one video, can barely ask questions cause if you do , you will get points taken off your assignments . You wont be able to find this guy in person either .
Day one drop. 30+ page unformatted syllabus. Misorganized notes full of broken English and typos. Out of only 8 graded assignments, one was to upload cover sheets and another was to write a critique about the teacher. For a high-level math course, this is embarrassing. Can't believe they'd allow someone like this to teach and gatekeep their dept.
It is my first week, spent 3 hours trying to read 30+ page syllabus and have no clue. Got 12 message through canvas with him crying and complaining about some dumb stuff.
if you want pain in your life choose bagchi, havent even started his class already dropping it, makes everything so hard and confusing
He is serious on failing you.
Extremely strict grader. Has taken off points for lines not being straight enough.
Bagchi's MATH163 class is a tough ride - notes from a decade ago, no lectures, and minimal help. Thankfully, Unstuck study and chatting with classmates saved me. Worth taking a different prof if you can.
He doesn't teach which is bad for some students who wanted to take advanced math. I recommended to take a different professor instead.
I was registered for 2 hours before dropping this class in the first week. Don't be like me and made the mistake of doing the intro submission! Why does he ask private questions about students?
This Indian mate is probably the worst Professor at CCP. He makes normal exam questions ten times harder. Taking his class made me consider changing my major entirely since it's a required course. He might be the most unreasonable professor ever—he doesn't care if you spend six hours on his poorly designed exams and will still give you a zero.
Bagchi is hands down the worst professor and person ever to exist on the face of the earth. If there were a checklist of people going to Hell, he would be first. He must be very fun at parties. Don't take his class if you want to live a happy life. He should be kicked out of CCP.
Hands down the worst professor ever. He's quick to fail students. Will fail an entire test just because a perfectly straight line wasn't drawn on one question. Offers no real support or helpful guidance and often tells students to drop the class if they can't keep up. Taking this course is pure misery and unnecessary stress. Avoid at all costs!
STUDENTS DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR BY ANY MEANS. This professor is quick to fail students at his own will. He takes away points for things such as not being able to draw straight lines or not perfectly drawing a number. WARNING DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, HE WILL SABOTAGE YOUR GRADES.
One point is the system's bottom line, not mine. I'd rate this professor negative infinity. He forced us to follow 11 strict rules, upload exams under 25MB, and expected zero scores. Canvas gave no deadline alerts. He refuses exam emails and gave 0s unfairly. I'll report him to the school and education department.
Class takes a lot of time and exams take a lot of work. The notes are ok, but are hard to understand. The class is very student independent. Formatting is important in the class, as you can fail the entire class just by not drawing straight lines. Passing is doable, but brutal, you'll be spending at least 25-30+ hours a week on exams.
Worst Professor ever! No textbook, homework or lectures, just 30 page exams you have to print yourself. If you get one question wrong or he doesn't like your handwriting you get a 0. If you got a 0 on the first exam he wouldn't bother grading any of the rest. This happened for all 30 in my class. How he has his job is a mystery. Deplorable human.
