She is very nice to chat with and I highly recommend her classes because she really knows how to explain things well.
well.....i think she might know lots, but just dunno how to teach......
Who wrote that she's nice and helpful?? I hope it's not herself because I do not sense one bit of helpfulness in her... Explain things well?? Yeah she sure does explain her jokes well (that are not even funny)
God, please help her to be more clear about what she is teaching
totally confusing..
totally a disaster, dunno it's my problem or hers. i'm just totally confused about all the stuff. YES, " ALL "
she reads the notes as if sheknew lots, which we have no idea if that's true or not. seems like nobody understands her lecture
She is not hot. She is good though. she teaches really good. If people say they don't understand, is because they are stupid. Engineering is hard, don't forget that. She rocks.
i haven't seen her for the last month, i want my one third tuition back, which is about 150 bucks, how does that sound? If you want to donate money to school, take her class.
her teaching is not clear enough, i have to say she is not solid on the materials. and she didnot show up for two weeks this semester for no reason.
..........D I S A S T E R
Well in my opinion, she is the worst teacher that I have had in years, if not the worst. O ya does she prepares and comes to class on time. Btw, I m j/k. Not only is her lecture hard to understand but she speaks in this horrible monotone. Without a doubt, many have fallen asleep in her class.
Horrible...the combination of her and ENSC 150 is a crash course waiting to happen. She expects too much from her students. She lacks ability to express herself makes the class even harder. Her notes are confusing and useless at the same time annoying with excessive over use of exclamation marks.
Seriously 150 is not a hard class, you just can't slack, and you can't expect to have the prof hold your hand all the way through. While she's not the great teacher I've ever had, she's far from the worst.
I don't know how she is going to teach 220 next term. Don't waste time and money on her classes. Her notes are worthless, don't waste your paper and your printer ink on them.
wrost prof
She's a really good professors. One of the possible reasons that there are some upset students could be that this course is a hard course. I'm a 3rd year Engineering student. I took this course too late because I was always feared to take it as I'd been told so many times that it's a terrible course
Bad teaching, worst prof that u could ever get.Unclear handout, not organized.Inconsistent in her teaching.Midterm was fine but the final was BRUTAL!(doesnt resemble midterm and assignments!!!)Doesnt speak english too.The TAs could teach EVEN MORE than her!!!I wished the TAs taught this course!!
She should not teach the course
Pathetic, seems like a capable teacher but doesn't know how to make tests, unfair grading scheme and bad bad tests
No Comments
Denfinitly an F, if you are in her class.
HORRIBLE teacher. Her persian accent does not help her lack of spoken English. Does not like any students and refuses to provide help during lectures. Avoid her at all costs.
My main problem lies with her notes and lectures. Useless, unorganized notes, and her horrible lecturing ability makes studying for exams impossible. Read the textbook!

holy ......holy professor . not helpful at all.......
she expect us to understand weird stuff, but we are there to learn. Forexample, we would have questions on homework that is never covered in class, the textbook is horrible that gives crappy example, (the most basic example, and expect us to put everything all together, just insane)
need to make less mistakes

the contents are not hard if you keep up wiht the assignments and tutorials, but tue lectures are not very helpful.
Crappy Prof....She even doesn't know what she is doing, not prepared before lectures...confuses us alot! Don't take her classes (ohwell,ENSC150 is mandatory..so...U_U)
Doesn't know how to teach :(

Office hours are great! Accent is hard to understand at times. Very helpful if you ask. Funny in class.
I think she has the potential to be a helpful and she tries so hard to be helpful, go to her office hours you will get your answers
She is great. fair exams and assignments. use her office hours.
unlike other here, i think she is great. very clear and organized and fair exams.
She bores the hell out of me!
She has no idea how to make the class keep up and gives no practice whatsoever.
If you want to earn some gardes in ENSC classes, her course will help you as long as you keep up with others. If you really want to learn something, i will say, she is not good at that.
I tell you with absolutely honesty, do NOT take any classes with her. You rather wait one or two semesters more for the same course taught by another professor. Her lectures consists going through textbook examples, and her exam problems are selected from the hardest, most brutal questions from the textbook. I studied real hard, but I still failed.
Very good teacher. Cares a lot about for students and spends time to help us understand. The course was not easy but she tried to make it fun and showed us practical examples and applications. Fair exam.
She tries very hard to get everyone involved
She needs to completely revise her teaching method. Her power point notes are a complete joke. She is a good person in general, but her teaching ability is one of the worse in the Engineering Department.

Good teacher, but hard course. I was delightfully surprised when she offered a weekly tutorial using her spare time. Not many professors would do this since they don't get paid more.
Honest opinion -> Dont take any courses with her. Her lectures are clear and make u feel that you understand stuff, but exams are brutal, really hard. From her teaching, you can never tell what is important to know and u get surprised in exams. I was scholorship holder but she ruined my gpa.My advice-> Avoid her if u can

Atousa uses grades as a weapon to punish us for the low class attendance. Don't worry, the grade you get is not a reflection of how you are doing. I am a graduate student now; but I got D in her ENSC220 many years ago, but A- in the subsequent ENSC320. Also B+ in ENSC225 and B in ENSC325. Keep your heads up guys!
not very difficult-she is kind of OK,but remember to read the book and do more problems than she give you if you want to get a good mark.
She changed my opinion about engineering and SFU, she made me hate them all untille i took 225 with Ash, he made me love this stuff again.
Why does she need to grade so harshly? Does she get commissioned by the number of students she fail? Usually I keep my opinion about teachers to myself, but Atousa is the reason I visited this website.

This course is tough especially 1/3 into the class. Atousa has really Clear notes, however i would like her to do more advance examples. Her MT/Final are not that difficult but the material itself is really difficult to understand.
You can see from reading the comments that people either really like her classes or really hate them (or they think they are all right... jk). My own opinion is that her teaching is far too restricted, not giving the students enough freedom to learn the theory in their own way. And if she could only lose the powerpoint!! it is sooo not helpful!!!
Good luck. Try not to fail.
Anyone that think Atousa is a good/competant prof obviously just hasn't had many good profs - and I feel sorry for them. When they were hired, her and Scratchley were the only people willing to work for so little...and you get what you pay for. ENSC is at a huge loss now that Cavers retired and Ash isn't teaching 220/225.
She refuses to curve!!!! no matter how many people fail, she'll never curve :(
This course was mandatory for me. Although she is interested in the material, she is terrible at passing on the interest or information to students. She copies previous semester notes in class and fails to actively do problem sets. The TA's are unreliable. Textbook is terrible, provides poor sample problems and does not show worked solutions.
She is by far the worst prof I have ever had!! she is very unclear in the lectures and teaches very easy material but asks you to solve complicated material in the exams. she also doesnt scale so half the class fails!! horrible final as well
I think she is now a changed person. She made ENSC220 much easier now. Maybe too easy. =/
I took 150 and 220 with her in 2006. I appriciate her now even more than before. She was so kind and caring towards our needs. Very well organized, knew what she was talking about, and her door was always open to us even outside of office hours. I wish she would teach more courses.BEST
I think she is a very good teacher.very helpful and kind.use her office hours.
I think she's improved her teaching skills since i took 220 with her, so gd enough
she is rally a gud prof...always helpful and do explain well...do take this course.:)
She made me hate engineering altogether! she is a very bad teacher, has no idea what she is talking about and has a horrible accent! never take any course with her
I don't know what you people are talking about, she's such a good prof. She's so easy, crystal clear, you don't need the textbook at all, her notes are golden. You do have to be at every class, it is definitely worth going, so don't skip. The final exam, everyone finished the exams in like 30 minutes.Five percent of grade is drawing a straight line
She's awesome, Go Atousa
best prof ever!!!
You can find this princess on facebook as well. Shows how serious these professors are about teaching.
Don't take a course with her if you want to learn. It might be easy to get a B or higher, but that does not mean you learned anything. She is not helpful at all if you have questions as she will explain things again in the exactly same way that you did not understand the first time. Conclusion: avoid her.
Atousa treats her students like they are in elementary school. Her quizzes and exams are pretty easy (she gives you the quiz questions beforehand) The text is a pretty good reference.
If you understand concept that she wants then you will get A+ for sure~!
it is super easy~! she teaches really well~!!everything came from lecture~!
She knows what she is talking about, but she has a bored tone when she speaks and isn't especially good at communicating material. Also, assignments are too challenging. However, the final exam was pretty easy. If you don't attend lectures just go through examples in the textbook and you'll be fine.
She is all good. Right now I'm taking Ensc 150 with her and I previously took ENSC 220. She comes out of her way to help students, and has a very clear way of explaining stuff. And guys who are complaining just please stay quiet (I'm sure you are a bunch of first-year students who still don't know what university means). I strongly recommend her.
Atousa is a good instructor. She does have a tone with her class which reminds me of highschool teachers, but believe it or not this gives a sense of friendliness with the class. It's always fun and there's several occasions where everyone laughs because of the way she reacts to mistakes. She's friendly, clear and helpful.
Excellent professor. This course is easy so u just need to attend lectures. That's all.
Many people say about how easy Atousa is. Well, she is, but this is one of the most fundamental courses in ENSC and the easier the prof is, the more you'll have to study on your own. I just wish I never took this class with her...
Her class is very boring, she does not really interact with student and her voice just hypnotizes you. One good thing, she posts completed note online so no need to go to the lecture
Don't take 327 with her if you can avoid it. She posts her notes, which is nice, but she doesn't do a good job of explaining things clearly in class, plus she will talk you to sleep. She didn't have use do labs on any of the really useful course material, just AM and FM... what a gyp!
She knows what she's doing but makes a lot of mistakes in class, wasting time. Doesn't know the material nearly as well as other professors, and if you take 220 with her you're going to suffer when you take 320 and 225 with Bird and Ash. She just doesn't cover the material in the same depth as other professors do. At least she's easy.
Quizzes and tests are very easy; Explains things very well; Generally supportive towards students.
So this professor, instead of using the standard lon-capa or what not, making her students pay $90 to look at the assignment questions on a website that won't even load on Chrome half the time. A professor that thrives on ripping students off is not a professor to be respected. Oh, do I even mention her wasting time on those stupid "experiments"?
Go to lecturego to bed Take quizplay games What you learn ( blank here)
Lectures are poorly structured with no evident links between overarching ideas. 90% of the class consists of examples, which are tediously done to minute detail. This wastes an incredible amount of time, and doesn't help understanding. Talks very slowly. I watched her online lectures at 2x the speed and found it to be akin to normal speech.
Very boring and not clear in her lectures at all. Don't take Ensc 327 with her
I am so regret taking this class with her. She is using notes from Jie. She was sick one time and then tell us to just learn this on our own and that topic was important. She wants feedback but will never agree so why would she bother asking?
Midterm average was 54%. Blames students for poor midterm average and her lectures are extremely dry. Was randomly convinced that student-made cheat sheets for final was a bad idea (which has always been a norm for this course). The formula sheets she uses instead really suck (prepare to derive everything) AVOID TAKING ENSC327 WITH HER IF YOU CAN.
Do not take ENSC327 with her. You've been warned. She uses notes from another professor, but in general, reading the textbook has been much more useful. She's also quite condescending. She will ask feedback for her teaching, but is very defensive about any feedback given.
I really enjoy a certain thing about Atousa; she makes me further respect and cherish all the professors that can actually teach material in a relatable and non-boring way. Sadly, she isn't one of those professors. Hope more professors teach this course instead.
Has to be the least organized prof at sfu. Confuses a lot regarding course material and due dates of assignments. Would forget to give homework for a whole month and make a lot of assignments due at the couple of end weeks. Would not recommend taking ANY class with her. But again with 220 & 280 i dont think u have another choice. May god be with u.
She really make the class easy and midterm, final are not tough. As long as you can understand her slides, you will pass this easily no matter you listen to the class or not. I didn't go to class after midterm but still doing pretty well.
I asked if I had been signed out of my lab and she started talking about how she told the entire class (not really, just a row out of 6), and that she said it multiple times (she said it once) that we needed to sign out with our TA's who were gone. I then told her that all my assignments were completed and handed in and got a pop quiz on it.
I think I was the worst student in the class at the tests, labs, and soldering, but even though it took me five times longer to finish everything I still passed by a large margin. I think you would have to actively and purposefully sabotage your own work to fail the labs, so even if you barely pass the tests and the project you'll be fine.
Showing up to lectures is optional since it's recorded and posted on canvas. ENSC120 labs are basically just following instructions. For the midterm and final, prepare a few days in advance and practice using the devices. The class average was an A+ so really just show to labs and you'll do fine.
Good teacher, had her for 280 Not lower than 3.5 -4
"Attendance is mandatory, but not tracked." Aka. You don't actually have to go, although I suggest going on an ethical standpoint since lectures are on safety and stuff you should know. In labs, if you can read English and follow instructions, you'll get 95-100% As a teacher she seemed bored, but that's probably because the class is so simple.
Very nice prof, probably the best I have taken in Engineering at SFU so far(taken 280 and 220 with Atousa). Ready to help and explain if you come to her office hours and show your interest. I would love to take a course with Atousa again.
I found her lectures and explanation of key concepts very helpful and easy to follow.
Lectures are short and most of it was examples. Homework is long, but exam is easier than the homework. The syllabus said there will be 34 labs only, but there was 5 labs. All on LTspice, so if you use Mac, make sure you know how to use it. Exams are fair and easy if you understand the lecture.
Asks trick questions, measures your attention span. Also 2 hour of babbling, i hope to never take any course from this prof. Her pop quizzes are also not dated. I think engineering department sucks at online teaching.
ENSC 120 was a pretty easy class with this professor, and as long as you review the labs and tests beforehand you'll get a solid grade.
A professor of average teaching ability but extroverted personality that sometimes lets her quirks show. Lectures are easy to follow and questions are asked in class to promote attendance. Labs and homework are fair enough and the exams are predictable. Knowledge of subject matter is good and lectures are relevant and well organized.
Hard to review as she didn't teach us much but I think that is mostly okay because it was meant to be a hands on lab equipment course. The labs all have clear instructions and it should be easy to do well if you prepare. Didn't teach much about the labs. Feels like you are just following instructions rather than learning how the equipment works.
Her lecture notes are confusing and courses are designed only to fulfill the 4-credit requirement.
top 1 worst professor on planet earth. i would rather roll on the floor for 2 hours compared to sitting in this lecture i would learn more honestly though, she spends more time calling students out for not actively participating in class. according to her, if you arent actively answering questions, you should leave the class
Snooze fest
Kinda dry lectures, but is tolerable. Fairly easy exams. You have to be trying REALLY hard to actually fail this class.
Atousa seems like a wonderful person to be around, but she is NOT fit for teaching. ENSC380 is a difficult course and her lectures teach you nothing. Her lecture notes will have the question, minimal work, and the answer and expect you to know how SHE got from A to B. She also can't explain topics to save her life. Avoid this prof.
Ensc 120 is easy so don't worry about the prof. But Atousa can be rude sometimes
She does so many things to make your life easy, like allowing collaboration during quizzes, grace period policy, and lectures on Zoom with recording if you don't want to go to class. Exams are fair and doable if you prepared for it. Pre-midterm material is almost trivial. Post-midterm material however is surprisingly challenging, so beware.
This class was very straightforward and taught me a lot about using electronic instruments such as the DMM, power supply, oscilloscope. There is one group project where you solder some components onto a circuit board, but it is marked very generously. Atousa is helpful. Show up to the labs, practice for the midterm and final and you'll do fine.

Easy grader, lots of time to prepare for midterms, which are the exact same as the experiments in class - just different numbers.
Avoid at all cost
"No more than 1 unmarketable tomtato" ahh prof
She is not a good prof. You don't know if you will have a normal lecture or get ripped into cause she isn't in a good mood and not understanding in her way. In-class quizzes worth 15% of your mark randomly sprinkled around and horrible examples. If I have the chance to choose between her and Craig (another prof) I choose Craig Scratchly.
painful lecture, why cant school just find someone who can actually explain things in English
Lectures are alright, she gives alot of resources so youll be well prepared for exams. In class quizzes are definitely kind of annoying though
The class itself is pretty easy but atousa is such a pain to deal with, a lot of times she comes off as very rude/unapproachable and the TA's sometimes don't know what to do either leaving you to fend for yourself. I remember she insulted me once for asking for clarification because of a concept she couldn't properly explain
Avoid at all costs
Most of the grades for this class come from labs. It seems daunting at first, but all the instructions are very detailed, and if you actually read them it's very easy. Unfortunately, your success is dependent on your lab partner which is randomly picked. Lectures (at 8AM btw) are not entirely necessary, as she just goes over the lab in more detail.
knowledgeable and caring
Very easy class. The only way to do poorly is by ignoring the class and not reading instructions. All assignments, midterms, and final, are given ~1-2 weeks beforehand and are very detailed. It practically gives you the answers and deducted marks are usually just because of rounding errors. The prof is nice, people just don't like her accent.
Very easy class. The labs are pretty easy. The midterms and final are given 2 weeks beforehand and help prepare for the actual test itself. The prof is nice, she's very open to answering questions during lecture.
i refuse to believe that anyone in this class is actually learning
can't wait for the knowledge gap in 320
She's a nice person, I've asked her multiple questions but her delivery could use work, not sure if it's the accent or just reading off slides but I don't understand much until I go home and read myself...MT was straight forward but she doesn't give any material for tests. Class is dead quiet, no one knows what's going on too.
The class is fair, and material isn't too hard, but Atousa isn't great. Notes are messy and lectures mostly repeat the slides. Pop quizzes force attendance. No materials are provided for exams, but grading scheme is generous (Many buffers). Also complains about participation and grades, which is grating. Also has a lot of tangents during lecture.
I mean I basically learned on my own, the tests are like the homework but a little different and more advanced. Final was okay, about expected difficulty. For a 3rd year engineering level course though, I would expect to learn something during lectures but I'm always left confused. Would not take again, glad it's over..
I think Atousa is personally a very nice prof, but like other have mentioned, I could not for the life of me learn from her lectures in this class. To study for the final, I watched videos from a different school and everything made sense easily. Also based on the course description, we only covered about half the course's material.
giving them a packet yo
The class is insanely easy and the prof is nice. Lectures are the most boring thing ever, but you can live through them. Midterm and Final were discussed 2 weeks before they were given, which gives you plenty of time to practice. Overall easy course.
Genuinely a really nice lady. But unfortunately, her lectures are not too great. After the midterm, the material really accelerates, but idk if she has much to do with that. Fortunately, she posts her filled lecture slides and streams/records lectures via zoom. Exams are pretty straight forward to prepare for, but are somewhat difficult.
horrible lectures
I'll give it to you straight: everyone likes her because of 120 and how easy she was in the course. However, this is a 3rd year level course and her lectures are garbage - you need to rely to other sources like videos and textbooks to get anything in this class and only attend lectures for those quiz codes. Tests are harder, altered assignments.
Came in this class hoping it was good because everyone talks well of Atousa but yeah...this ain't it. Tests are straight forward but she doesn't give you anything to study for the tests, homework takes a while to do it's like 7 questions and sometimes with MATLAB, you also have group MATLAB assignments doable alone. Didn't like this class overall..
ENSC 120 is just a very easy course to take with her. overall, she's alright, the communication i got back from her for a few assignments i felt was unfair, but since 120 is very easy, its not that hard to make a comeback.
