This professor is not hard at all. If you write down what he puts on the board, you basically know whats on the test. SAME examples Take it with someone who knows how to write programs, then the class is an easy A
I had to drop his class, because I didn't understand a word he was saying. He mumbles a lot, & has a very high pitched voice. I didn't stay long, so I don't know how easy/reasonable he is, but all I can say is he's annoying!

I don't know who finds him easy. The tests are not easy at all, the questions are hard and tricky(you have to know advanced topics), especially at his teaching level(can't teach AT ALL!). Also, makes mistakes in EVERY example, so notetaking is impossible.
Take him he is really easy. You only need to study his review sheets, and you'll do well. So far I got in the 90's for the first 2 tests and a 100 on the third test. Take him.( but hes unclear)

this has to be the strangest man on the planet. i often found myself hypnotized by his strange mannerisms and snowy white hair. anyway, not a lot of people realize how smart this guy is. people who rate him poorly may just envy his weird brilliance.

He can;t teach this stuff and makes a million mistakes. He doesn't like to fail anyone. You follow him and you will be lost stick by the book. Great guy though sounds a little like "Dr. Evil" but no evil in this man.
he got an lazy eye, so he's pretty weird. other than that, he's a pretty easy professor, grade-wise. there's labs and programming stuff and lots of logic crap. so u should prolly take it in freshman yr. so you can still remember some logic crap from hs.
He is a kind of strange person, but I've got 98, 97, and 100 on his exams. if you study his review sheets oyu will do fine on the exam. Sometimes he is boring, but that is not a big deal. Test are very similar to review sheets
he's a hard teacher, but high curves. and he sounds like kermit the frog. i could not stop myself from laughing at his accent. other than that, he can be a little impatient when it comes to helping students. overall, not bad teacher ...but not great.
horrible teacher. Explains nothing, just writes problems on the board nonstop, doesnt answer questions and then just continues. also makes u feel as though everything is simple and u should understand it so if u dont hes not gonna explain it

Fire that man. Because of his terrible teaching, I lost out on 4 credits. I was forced to withdraw from his class. What a miserable experience. He doesn't explain anything and is very hard to understand. Stay away from him.

Take Precal with this prof. only if you had precal before. He doesn't give about att. nor participation nor h.w he doesn't explain anything. only reason i passed cuz i took precal b4. study on your own and go to a tutor. He can't teach and he can't focus on one thing. If your a slacker, drop this class.
he is the worse professor i have even seen in my life. dont you ever take him if you get in 80s in his exam he will give u C and imagine if u get lower than that. i guess you guys are smart enough to make a right decision..good luck
I just found this site and couldn't resist commenting. I took this class back in 1993 or so. It was one of the few classes I failed. Our grades were determined by using calculus. I still vividly remember his response to a students question. "Your question is so stupid I won't even answer it." He didn't.
In agreement with most of the other comments, even though his tests are very similar to his review sheets, his teaching style is atrocius. It is impossible to learn anything from this feller.Instead of teaching the material, he just puts up a whole slew of examples, one right after the other, without allowing time to digest the material and get it
Although the material is difficult, he does know what he is talking about. I liked programming and found his class interesting, minus the idiotic questions coming from my classmates.
I had this prof. two semesters in a row, for precal as well as cal. Terrible! If I was to have him one more time I would leave this school. Never answers questions or says that they are stupid. Does not explain the material, puts up examples and theories one after the other no time to digest.Tests are exactly like the review sheets, still no help
Prof Mate is the Man. In the beginning I was nervous, cause i didn't know what was goin on, but after a while you get used to him. The materials hard, but he gives out old tests and the new test is more or less the same, but with different numbers. Memorize those tests and you get an A. He seems to know almost everything, which I respect.
The worst professor in history! He does not explain any thing, and gets annoyed when you ask a question. The man is brilliant, but should be doing research not teaching. If you take him spend a lot of time reading the book, and at the tutors

Prof: Mate is a brilliant guy.Quite frankly as someone said, He is better off doing research. If you are taking Linear algebra or another tough course with him, prepare to see a tutor regularly.
this class really make me crazy, i have no idea what did I learn from this class. This class all about theorem, no example or numbers during the class time. RECOM, DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM.

This professor knows the subject matter very well, but is unable to teach it effectively. Though I did fairly well, I did not gain any information. If you study the practice exams and complete ALL end of the chapter questions in the Course Pack, an A is easily attainable. Be WARNED, this is a memorization course not a course for learning.
Got help this professor. He is the definition of a horrible teacher. This was my first day having him and didnt understand a THING. He gives examples back to back. The man is practically teaching himself and tlking to himself. I think he even forgets there is a class there. He makes mistakes as well. The man cant even teach basic precal 29.1 so if

This class will test your ability to memorize things that you may not be able to understand. There's no way you can memorize all the algorithms from the book. So cheat!
He is the WORST professor ever in BC. Never take him. First day in class, have no idea what he's talking about. When you ask a question, answer you indirectly. An answer that you mostly don't want to hear. Total no help at all. I wish I can take Weissman again like precal.He is the best!! Mate, never goes over the h.w. Very hard to pass the class.
He's the worst. No one understood a word he said, and about 50% of the answers he puts up are wrong- he makes careless mistakes all the time, and he'll correct them a thoudand times. He clearly know what he's talking about, but unfortunately, no one else does. But he seems to enjoy himself.
If you take Prof. Mate, you need to understand that he is completely uninterested in what he is teaching, the students in the class, or whether or not you learn. He shows up, lectures and can be quite rude actually if you dare to ask a question and leaves. His office "hours" are 15 minutes long (at 7am in the morning!). He hates his job-and you.
He does not seem to care what he writes on the board. Makes careless mistakes and doesn't answer questions clearly(sometimes doesn't answer at all). Avoid him if you can he will not help you and the $16 book he assigns will not help you either.
Honestly, out of all of the professors I'm taking class with, especially for Mathematics, he is the absolute worst, period. Why? Let's say that although he knows all of the material, his teaching style is not at the professional standards, in my opinion. He always make many mistakes on the blackboard, and did not use the textbooks we have assigned.
Well. I you have no interest in maths, take him. You dont even have to listen to the class. I got an A because the sample exam he posts online is the one he will give you on the exam (or maybe sometimes he changes the numbers but nothing is tricky). But if you are interested in maths, trust me, dont take him, you won't learn anything.
I'll make this short.I love math: I aced Calculus 1, 2, and linear. Mate was a terrible teacher, and he only lectures. If anyone wants a good grade, then prepare to buy the book and use it to teach yourself everything. I'd only recommend this class to math lovers. This class is all about proofs.

Maybe hes changin alittle from the comments below but he is very hard. he is very hard and moves quickly , jumping from subject to subject with little explanation or examples. once i walked into the class after registering late the kids told me to be prepared for someone who cant teach and that is true. he took questions but yelled and got mad

If you take this professor, you must rely upon yourself and do a LOT of self study. He's unable to teach properly like the other poster said, so you have to rely upon yourself. Office hrs help, too. He curved every test, so that's good at least. Btw, poster below me, we didn't div by 0. That's how the ODE system for quasi-lin eqns are defined.
While he might know what he is talking about, he has absolutely no idea how to teach. He constantly makes errors (at least 15 per class) and refuses to answer questions. Literally refuses to answer them. Stay away from this class. Unless you feel like paying money to teach yourself something.
This professor cannot teach at all. He has no clue what he is teaching and can't even do math. It is sad considering students in the class who have never taken calculus can correct him. He dislikes taking questions and doesn't curve the final.
Mate is completely unprepared for class so he makes tons of mistakes which is so confusing. He doesn't want to be there. He obviously hates his job and despises students. He can't really talk normally with people, he has this weird way of shouting and bullying us, so this must be the only job he can get. He insults you if you ask a question.
You will only learn what you teach yourself. If you are stuck with him, do what everyone else does, just bring your notes to the test. he doesn't care.
He's a genius. Wicked and eccentric sense of humor. One step removed from the legendary Paul Erdos. If you're smart and diligent, his uncompromising manner will challenge you. If you are not mathematically cultured, you will be completely in the dark. I benefited. Most won't. So what. It takes all types to make a world. "Whatever."
Loves what he does but has trouble explaining. You have to do all the study and explaining yourself. Google and the textbook are your only hope. A great teacher in grading but terrible when it comes to asking questions,him explaining anything you will not understand.
As said, if you study what he posts online, you will do fine on the exams. It may be overwhelming but that's the best option since he does not necessarily answer your questions or concerns. He is a nice professor but lacks professional teaching skills. His clarity is low. He has a broad range of mathematical knowledge though.
he can't teach. he writes on the board and talks, but it's pretty much him talking to himself. he makes mistakes when he writes stuff on the board, but he won't be an ass if you call him out on it. his tests are straightforward, if you do the homework, you can do okay on the tests. he takes no breaks in the lecture and goes very fast for a topic.
I'd recommend him. The material is really fun and real world useful. You don't need to buy any books. His book is enough. Its pretty good. I've check with graduated students at Columbia and Ruetgers for 2nd opinions. You need to know his sample exams inside out. There are youtube research you will have to do. He covers a lot of material.
Just teach the material to yourself. Study his practice exams, for you'll benefit from learning and excelling on his curved exams. Sit through the lectures, express interest, and then go teach the chapter to yourself and confirm you understand by solving the questions he assigns in class.
The man knows his math. Unfortunately, he's not very good at teaching, or conveying his knowledge to students. Frequently makes careless mistakes on the board, isn't very clear on the rare occasions he chooses to explain something in more than a cursory way, and grades nothing but tests. You need to go to tutoring or teach yourself a lot.
I would not suggest you take calc with this professor. He is clearly good at Math, but you'll definitely find yourself sitting in class understanding NOTHING. If you want a good grade, you'll have to find ways to teach yourself the content. On the bright side, he is nice when grading tests.
The worst professor ever! He is sometimes clear about his materials but sometimes not! He may understand his own stuff, but he is not a good professor who can teach students. He gives homework assignments every single class and asks if you have any question about the HW. Yet, he WON'T explain any HW question if you really asked him. Basically, you
WON'T learn anything in his class and therefore you are unable to have a good grade from him. He gives sample exams for every test. However, those sample exams are 20% similar to the real exams. there is NO sample exam or any review stuff for the FINAL EXAM!! Avoid him if you can!!
He is absolutely the worst teacher at Brooklyn College. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Seriously I am a pretty average student but he teaches nothing.
If you're just looking for an easy PASSING grade he's the best professor, BUT if you really want to learn the course material for the future, DON'T TAKE HIM, you won't learn anything. His exams are very similar to if not exactly from his textbook and sample tests. He's a very lenient grader in exams.
Horrible professor. Basically only uses the final to grade you for the entrie class. It doesn't matter how you do on the other 3 tests because the final is all that matters. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Had him for LinAlg, he focuses way too much on the proofs in this course even though most of us haven't taken the 2001 class. It's pretty hard to hear him he pretty much mumbles at the board so going to class is a total waste of time. But he takes attendance and docks points off your average if you don't show up and just learn from the book.

I had taken him twice. Compared to some of the professors in Brooklyn College, I would take him again. He doesnt teach well in class but is very knowledgeable. The sample exams he gives mostly match up with the actual exam. So practice the sample exam and the class before he goes over what is exactly on the exam.
Quite literally the worst professor I've ever had. There is very little learning accomplished in this class as his tests are all about memorizing long-winded and wordy explanations, rather than understanding concepts. He goes off topic quite often to talk about things that are not relevant. You're better off self-teaching.

His lectures are extremely difficult to understand and he often goes on tangents. If you really want to learn, try to avoid taking him. He gives practice exams that are extremely similar to actual exams, which is what saved me in this class. You will do a lot of learning on your own. Really nice guy and kind professor, but now the best at lecturing

AVOID LIKE THE CORONAVIRUS! I literally think he has brain damage not trying to be be funny. Can't teach for his life. Rambles incessantly. Extremely disorganized. Expects you to know & teach yourself a lot of the topics covered. His grading doesn't make sense & he gives the hardest examples possible to teach & on the test. He is awful at his job.
I like math but this class made me hate it because of the professor. He seems nice but it's hard to understand his teaching and he actually used to get mad at the class when we had questions and couldn't understand. I still don't even know what type of math I "learned." I learned nothing in this class it was hard. Do not take this class at all.
Tests are unreasonable and the sample exams do not reflect the actual test given.
CALC2: Hard to comprehend notes written on board, as he just jots them down with out explaining them. If we have questions/thoughts regarding the material on the board we get shut down instantly. It's hard to play catch-up on material that lacks proper explaining, resulting in poor preparation for exams. Topics are presented via pdf document.
He's mostly sweet but it was time for him to hang it up a long time ago. Poor lecturer. 3 midterms, 1 final. He grades generously and gives a sheet containing the exact problems to be covered on each exam.
Prof. Mate seems like such a kind human, but he's a bit too old to be teaching at the moment. The quality of his lectures is somewhat poor and he only talks at the board and doesn't face the students while lecturing. You most likely will need to self study if you take his class. One thing though: his exams are quite easy and he grades very nicely!
Please don't take this class. A lot of the time he would just do problems without explaining anything and self studying IS mandatory if you want to do good in this class. Even with prior knowledge, his exams were difficult and required hours of studying before hand. He is a smart man but he just cannot teach. Attendance isn't mandatory tho.
