In class Professor Snowden often seems unprepared (she doesn't create the PowerPoints she teaches from) and can be hard to work with. She based our 10% participation grade off of a few pop quizzes that most people did poorly on. Members for the group project are randomly assigned, so you there's a good chance you'll get stuck with a horrible group.
For a drama teacher, her presentational skills are lacking. No stage presence, its almost as if shes acting like a teacher, and acting poorly.
The lectures are not relevant to the midterm or final exam at all. Snowden doesn't make the powerpoints herself and doesn't seem to know what she's lecturing. The exams were straight from quizlet but also random. The one project is assigned into random groups and you are graded as a group. No curves. Don't take this class.
Not as easy as you'd think. Lecture is just her speeding through powerpoint she hasn't made, but she does post them after class. Random participation quizzes on the reading assigned. Her study guides do not help at all with the midterm and final. Take advantage of the extra credit she assigns, it's easy and you can do as much as you want.
Only homework was read the plays and take an easy 10 question quiz, usually once a week or so. One midterm and the final, which were multiple choice/true-false/matching. Basically show up and pass. Also have to attend 2 or 3 plays at Playmakers. We got out of class 15ish minutes early every day.
Attendance is not required although there were a few pop quizzes. Homework was to read about a play a week and take a quiz online as well as to see three plays. Grades are from quizzes, a play review, midterm, group project, and final. Midterm and final were very very tough, lectures were not interesting but short. Ample extra credit opportunities.
Snowden is one of the worst professors I've had at UNC. She just straight up reads from powerpoints that she didn't even make. You could skip lecture if not for the pop quizzes. The group project completely screwed me. The group project had no clear criteria and I got assigned the worst partners. Honestly take a different class for your gen ed.
Worst professor I've had at UNC. She does not make any of her powerpoints or tests and does not show up on test day. Students are given lengthy reading assignments and quizzes weekly. She gives unnecessary pop quizzes on extremely specific things that hurt the majority of the students. She's often rude to students and doesn't care about our success
This class was a terrible experience. A large percentage of the class grade is based on "participation" of what she said would be a daily poll everywhere question but instead it was based on two pop quizzes taken in the last two weeks of class. She claims the study guides contain the exam material but it was completely different.
this class was pretty awful. So boring and the midterm and final exam are unnecessarily hard. She just kind of runs through the powerpoints; there is no "teaching" involved. I think she tries to blame it on everyone for not paying attention/engaging, but the reading is stupid long (for no reason) and she doesn't even attempt to teach.
I was worried about this class based off what the previous students said, but it was not even close to as bad. We fortunately didn't have pop quizzes and the final wasn't cumulative so it covered only the easier end to the semester info. Plentiful extra credit that you should do! But I can agree with the people below that she can be rude at times.
I like theater, but I hated this class. The readings were long and frequent, the textbook was pretentious and had numerous spelling and grammar errors. The icing on the cake was having a group project in an intro class full of uninterested students. She also wasted my time calling out talking students in class instead of just continuing her lecture
Sometimes wasn't the most clear on her lectures and the final group project can be a real pain if you don't get put with good group members. Study guides for exams weren't very specific, but overall, if you come to class and don't miss attendance and do well on the quizzes and see the plays, it's a fairly easy class.
Prof. Snowden believes that everyone in DRAM 116 should be as passionate about the theater as she is. As such, she gets visibly annoyed with students talk out in her class or don't know the answers to assignments. Not extremely hard, just a very tedious teacher. Be prepared to go to multiple plays throughout the semester.
She is being very disrespected by a lot of these ratings. She is an easy teacher and her class is not too hard. There's a lot of reading, but you can Google a summary and ace every test. The lectures can be dry but this class opened my eyes up to theater. I loved watching the plays and would have never had watch them if this class wasn't a GenEd
Professor Snowden is rude and uncaring. She was often late to lecture and legitimately just reads off the slides. There were several pop quizzes on the readings that had such specific questions it was inevitable few would get them right. She called out students and often came off as annoyed. The class was boring too. Take something else!
She's very condescending and makes it seem as though everybody owes something to her. Type of person to be rude to her students for no reason. NEVER responds to emails, you have to email her many times to get a single response. Wouldn't recommend as a prof, even though the class itself was pretty easy to do well in. Just overall very annoying class
Professor Snowden is completely uncaring about her students and situations that might arise given now everything is online. Communication is difficult as she doesn't always respond to emails. Her lectures are boring and the expectations for the class are unclear. If you can, avoid taking this class at all costs; it is stress that no one needs.
The UNC Chem department cares more about their students than Prof. Snowden, and that's saying something. She beats up students when they ask for clarification, harshly critiques student work in front of the class, and seems to feel the need to be above everyone else. She offloads most of project grading to her poor TAs too. Just take someone else.
She always held herself higher than others and that air came off of her whether she was being rude or not. The only problem I have with the class is how disorganized it is- the syllabus says one thing and then she does another and doesn't bother changing the syllabus either. Her final project was also extremely confusing to understand.
This class was fine. There were a decent amount of plays to read and weekly quizzes, but nothing that took more than an hour to grind out. Keep up with the readings and show up to synchronous class once a week and you're fine. Sometimes directions were confusing but just took extra communication for clarity. Participate to help yourself stand out.
This class was one of the easiest classes I have taken at UNC, however her grading criteria is very unfair. The final was worth 35% of the grade and it was out of 50 points, 18 points was a 9 question multiple choice and the remaining 32 was an essay. That means that if you get 1 question wrong on the multiple choice youre already getting 96%.
She is so disorganized that understanding what's expected of you in this class is hard. She snapped at students several times during the semester for asking questions she deemed stupid, and rather than making theatre enjoyable or accessible to others, she always spoke with an air of condescension and never explained anything. Take something else!!!
Easy A, but Professor Snowden is just not nice. She is rude to students when questions are asked. Unclear in what is expected for this class. Group project was frustrating being on zoom and had no idea what was expected of us. I had kids in other countries in my group and she did not care. Class is easy if you put in a little effort, easy online.
Aubrey's class was life changing! She challenged me on the daily and made me into a better drama student. I owe her so much for keeping us motivated mid-pandemic! If you take this class, you won't regret it. Get ready to learn.
Although this class isn't hard, Professor Snowden is not a good teacher. On multiple occasions, she snapped at students for asking simple questions, and once stopped a student mid-presentation to yell at them. As long as you skim the readings (or look up a summary) you should be good. The group project at the end of the year can be frustrating.
If you want to be a thespian, take a class with this woman!
Professor Snowden rocks! I think she gets really put down by ratings because a lot of people taking the class arent there because they want to learn about theatre. The class is some readings about plays and if thats not your thing you wont enjoy it so dont take it out on the professor if you arent interested in the class.
easy A. a really good professor if youre interested in theatre.
She is a great prof! Loved her
Please dont be discouraged by the bad ratings on here! Aubrey started teaching only a couple of years ago because shes been working as an incredible and accomplished director- you will learn so much from her!! And shes gotten a much better grip on the teaching part- take her class! I LOVED IT
Prof Snowden was great! She assigns lots of plays to read but almost all of them have a litcharts page that tells you everything you need to know without having to read the whole thing. Quizzes and tests are pretty easy and often have repeat questions. The group project was kind of annoying because we couldn't pick our groups, but still not hard!
the only way I would recommend this is if you're taking it asynchronously and don't have to interact with the professor. Simple questions are responded to extremely rudely. I can tell a lot of other reviews had this same experience. Never experienced such a condescending professor. Im sure you can find a better easy A class than this one.
Not sure why there are so many negative ratings? Snowden made this class so easy and picked interesting plays to read + watch. She's always super positive and excited to hear students' opinions/thoughts. She cares about what she teaches which makes the course fun. Readings/assignments can easily be done using SparkNotes and tests were easy!
I loved professor Snowden! Don't listen to the bad reviews, she was a fun lecturer and made class fun. You had to read one play every week and most were enjoyable. They could also be easily spark noted if needed. There were a few papers that weren't graded harshly. Overall loved the class and it was a pretty easy A.
I would not recommend taking this class with Aubrey Snowden. Even with it being an asynchronous class, she was very rude in many of her emails and conversations with her students. Our learning was not prioritized and she put very little effort into our class.
TAKE THIS CLASS! I am not sure how people don't get A's. Snowden makes the class easy, grades papers extremely easy, and gives out extra credit. I have gotten a 100 on every paper and put no more than 2 hours into each one. If you do the work, you will get an A (it's as simple as that). So so easy I cannot recommend this class enough.
A play to read every week, a quiz from the play every week (do not buy the plays, get them on Z-Library or just read spark notes). 3 papers (she's not a tough grader). Attendance is a grade. The lectures are "okay" some are boring, some are not. Your final paper is based on a play you will see in person. She's not helpful during office hours.
Fairly easy class with leniently graded papers, however, Professor Snowden is not always the easiest to talk to about issues with the course. Attendance polls are inconsistent throughout the semester.
This class really isn't difficult. the lectures can be boring if you aren't interested in theater but most of your grade will come from quizzes, tests, and a couple of papers that are not harshly graded. I would recommend taking the class with a friend for the gen ed requirement, and it should be easy. Also a lot of athletes take this class
Take this class for the VP credit. Your only homework is to read a play once a week and there were 2 papers which had clear expectations and were graded very easily. She gives a bit of extra credit. The final and midterm were both taken online.
I don't understand why all these ratings are negative. Throughout the entire class, I did not see her give attitude or be mean to any students. She encouraged students to participate but rarely called on someone who didn't have their hand raised. She is an easy grader and I would definitely take this class again for VP credit.
I took this course online and it was a breeze! I didn't have much contact with Professor Snowden, but from what I saw she's not terrible. The class was pretty easy, there was a weekly poll question, plays to read, writing assignments, and quizzes. I probably read like half the plays, watched the recorded lectures, and still secured an A.
I took this class online and it was pretty straightforward. You read plays, usually take a quiz on it, and there were a few papers scattered around the course. Lectures are posted and I didn't watch them until class to exams. You don't need to pay for plays, just look for them online. From the reviews below, take it online and it's a breeze.
shes not good or bad to be honest. class is very easy (lots of student athletes) and guidelines are relatively clear except for final project which can be a bit confusing. can sometimes snap at students but its really not that bad, def an easy A
Professor Snowden will not accommodate you for any reason without university excused absences or explicit instruction from ARS to do so. This class is not hard at all, but can get tedious, especially if you don't care about theater. I found myself skipping it as often as I could, the lectures were uninteresting. A lot of athletes take this course.
Professor Snowden was a little unorganized/unclear sometimes, but overall this was a super easy and interesting gen ed course!
This class is an easy A, but since it's drama the work is annoying. There's a weekly quiz that's easy if you read the play. There's a textbook, but you don't have to read it. The midterm and final are online and easy. There are 2 papers based on plays you have to see, but it's not hard. There's extra credit and she takes attendance once a week.
The class is extremely easy and is filled to the brim with UNC athletes (which says a-lot). Professor Snowden however is by far the rudest and most condescending professor I've ever had at UNC. Still worth taking the class due to its' low level of difficulty but beware.
This class was made hard for absolutely no reason. For a simple gen ed, I would never take this class again. No feedback was ever given for quizzes or tests or midterms and the students were left guessing when it came to exams.
Professor Snowden is not a difficult teacher but can be frustrating. She is often extremely rude in class and is not easily accessible to students. Weekly quizzes, Midterms, and Papers were easy but are a lot for a Gen Ed credit. She only takes attendance once a week but it is often on Fridays. Take for easy credit.
attendance 20%, participation 20%, assignments 20%, midterm 20%, final project 20%. class is an easy A if you try and talk a decent amount in class, but she is very disorganized and annoying. she releases assignments 2 days before they are due and has unclear instructions, but she grades easy as long as it looks like you tried. midterm is open note
The material itself isn't difficult, just make sure you like drama. My biggest complaint is that she is extremely disorganized. She releases assignments the day before they are due and without proper instruction. Additionally, she rarely releases grades. The few grades I do have took at least a month to get. Overall, an unpleasant experience.
god I hate this class, and you probably will too. an easy A but annoying af. pick your poison ig
Play analysis is so easy if you pay attention in class anyone on here complaining that this class was awful most likely didn't. Prof is unorganized at times but she's incredibly understanding. Just talk to her after class if ur having a hard time with HW. It's a good amount of reading but one activity a week and open note/book final and midterm.
This class is easy but you have to put in effort to get an A. Lots of readings but are easy to read and interesting most of the time. Midterm/final are online and simple if you read the play's and go to class. She is actually very kind and understanding just talk to her about whatever you are struggling with. I learned a lot!
hard gen ed reading heavy with a quiz on a different quiz every week. hard grader on papers and boring lectures. took a long time releasing grades and never released quiz answers to help prepare for the exams. also, prof is not the nicest person especially interacting with her students. would not take again. way better aesthetics gen eds out there.
Honestly this was a really easy gen ed. you will do really well in the class if you simply take notes (which she always posts the slides so you can look back) the TAs also graded leniently. All the midterm & final questions (online exams from home) came straight from the notes. You do have to attend 3 plays in person and read a bunch, but it's easy
Super easy gen ed. There are 2 papers that are not difficult. Short and simple weekly quizzes. Attendance is taken once a week. Must attend 3 plays. Everything on midterms/finals are straight from lecture slides and the plays you read. Prof Snowden wasn't the best for a few reasons, but class was easy and not time consuming so no complaints.
The course was okay. I enjoyed all the plays we had to watch and I liked some of the plays we read. I would have liked more feedback on quizzes/assignments. I don't think she's a great lecturer. I found it hard to stay engaged. I would write Powerpoint notes after class since she moves through slides at a fast pace. I recommend a different gen-ed.
Easy weekly quizzes on the plot of the plays we read and 2 papers that were pretty easy, but the best part of this class was the 50 minute lectures were hardly ever longer than 30-35 minutes. The lectures are boring, but worth it for an extremely easy class.
Dr. Snowden is a great professor! The plays we watched were good, but the lectures are boring. Aubrey is somewhat snarky at times when she's had coffee, but the class is easy, and great for busy STEM majors who need easy Gen-eds for GPA inflation. The main things that contribute to your grade are two papers, quizzes, a midterm, and a final.
This was a good gen-ed. You will do well if you take notes from her PowerPoints. There are weekly quizzes that are not hard if you read the plays. Midterm and final were multiple choice and there were two papers that were very doable. You have to attend around three performances at Playmakers. She rarely kept us for more than 30 minutes.
She cares about what she teaches and makes it fun. She knows people take it for credit and offers clear grading criteria, I got 100s on both papers by following it. Open note online midterm and final. You do have to see 3 performances but not bad. Weekly quizzes but only 8-10 questions. Would recommend for VP credit!
Definitely recommend Prof. Snowden! She taught the material in a fun way and quizzes/exams were never too hard at all. She sometimes speeds through class PowerPoints, but always posts them afterwards incase you couldn't take note of everything during class.
Fairly easy course, lectures also tended to end much earlier than the scheduled end of class. 2 short papers but they weren't very difficult.
Very easy class but also a waste of time. Beware of Snowden's attitude as well
She was very nice, but the class had a quiz due weekly that are typically posted the night before. On top of this you have plays to see plays with worksheets, a midterm, papers, and a final. None of these things are necessarily hard just more time consuming than you would think. ATTENDANCE IS PART OF YOUR GRADE.
This class is actually so easy. You have to see 2-3 in person plays over the semester but they are not bad, and you have to write like a two page paper for them also which is not bad either. Her TA sometimes grade tough but other than that its easy and she offers extra credit throughout the semester
If you need an easy-ish class to complement your schedule, TAKE THIS CLASS. It's not difficult. You have to write 2 2-3 page papers and weekly quizzes, but it's not hard. The quizzes + midterm + final are online and you can take them at home.
take an easier gen ed if you can but If you're stuck in this one just try and you will be fine. weekly quizzes on different plays, a couple of papers, and midterm and final. attendance is once a week with poll ev. (idk why but this class stressed me out for no reason.)
This class is really easy as long as you pay attention even at a moderate level. Be prepared that you will need to read a lot of full plays.
This class is a very easy fc fulfillment. The class itself was slightly boring, however, it was VERY easy. She would often start class late but would also often let us leave extremely early.
Weird grading and totally dependent on TAs. Literally submit a wrong sentence and u get a 0. Easy class but there are easier ones. She is accessible though, and will help you out if you are kind
TAKE THIS FOR GEN ED REQ. Super easy, I didn't always read the plays & got by. Takes pollev attendance randomly so you have to pay attention for that. 2 papers (very easy). Midterm & final were online & super easy. Take this class for an easy A. Some plays are super fun to watch, some aren't personal pref.
Not a very interesting class but easy to fulfill gen ed requirement but there's definitely other better classes to take. You do get out early almost every class and the papers are pretty easy but depends on the TA. There are extra credit opportunities if you need them, midterm and final are easy.
Easy gen ed credit. Lots of extra credit. Almost no out of class work other than paper and seeing a couple plays.
The goat.
I have had Aubrey for DRAM116 and DRAM300. She is extremely passionate about what she does and you can tell in her lectures, assignment choices, etc. Snowden definitely is a "tough love" kind of person and can be dry or perceived as rude at times, but she really does care. As long as you pay attention and do the work, you'll be fine.
She is an awesome professor! I came into this class with no prior theater experience, but thoroughly enjoyed this class and learning about documentary theater. Take this class if you can!
She's a great professor, but beware, doesn't care about your emails. She grades based mostly on completion, so try somewhat in class, but no need to go overboard. Be there, or you won't pass, even if you're sick, frankly she doesn't really care that much unless you're dying, take a dayquil. I loved this class though, would take it again.
Snowden was very disrespectful and rude to her students. Snowden made it almost unbearable to attend class because would always target specific students during lecture to be condescending and rude to. Professor is AWFUL but the class was a joke it was so easy.
SO EASY! I actually do not think anyone got less than an A. Be prepared though, you CANNOT skip class or she will take -5 off your final grade. Also many times you don't know what you're supposed to be doing (I played Google Snake for like 90% of class) but she'll give you a 100% anyway. You have to see and read a few plays but nothing hard
clearly very passionate about the material, which is kind of sad in a class where most students seem to not really care. participation/talking to her before/after class goes a long way. there were some mix-ups with the grading/TAs this year, but she fixed it after I asked abt it. u have to see 2 plays outside of class, but student tickets are cheap
Be ready to read a lot of plays just to take a 10 question quiz that can be easily done by reading sparknotes. She is not lenient at extensions at all and will combine assignments/change assignment names in canvas so triple check what you submit. Also requires attending plays outside of class which costed $10 each. I never used the textbook
Snowden herself was kind of annoying, can be really condescending and rude to her students and is definitely an adult theater kid. Class was pretty easy, I didn't read the plays and some summaries were not easily found online so thats the reason for the B+. Overall, if theater is your vibe then it is a cool class, if not I'd steer clear.
Snowden was an awful teacher. She did not care at all about her students. This class seemed like a class she was forced to teach.
Easiest class I have ever taken at UNC. Barely had any homework, just a weekly quiz about a reading, a couple papers, but the grading is super chill. There is the occasional participation grade, but she usually announces when they will be, just show up for that day. Snowden is very chill, I recommend this class.
she was fine and i got a decent grade but if u miss one participation assignment ur grade will tank significantly
You dont rlly have to go to class but there are a few participation things that if you miss your grade will drop significantly. Grading depends on your TA. The TA Jack Roark grades extremely harshly on papers and will not accept regrade requests. I wouldn't take another drama class instead.
SO BAD PROFESSOR, DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE ANY MORE!
This class is extremely easy, but also enjoyable. Super light workload, tons of athletes. Simple reading quizzes every week, no need to read in depth (ctrl F will do the job if needed), one paper, multiple choice online final exam, have to go see 3 plays but they are usually really good and fun to watch, it's easy to not miss attendance days.
This class was super easy. If you do all of the assignments with even the smallest amount of effort, you'll get an A. You must come to class to do the participation assignments and you must see three plays at playmakers throughout the semester.
Snowden is so fun and very passionate about drama! The class has a give or take 1 play a week to read, but they are short. There are a few group assignments to be present for, otherwise attendance is optional. You have to attend 2 plays and write only a few papers, otherwise the class is laid back and an easy pass as long as you keep up with notes.
The class was easy, but Professor Snowden was rude. Reached out to my TA about grades but Professor Snowden went through one of my assignments, left rude comments about what I did wrong, then emailed me back and say my TA was "generous" in grading it. Both the TA and prof held a grudge against me when grading my remaining assignments in the class.
I am writing this as I wait for this class to start (late, as per usual). The papers are graded harshly, the lectures are super duper boring, there is no point in taking this class unless you hate yourself. Seriously trust me on this. (I did get an A though, I just hated it the entire time. Warning, wasn't easy though.)
Should be an easy A or A- for any student at UNC. Never went to class other than the few mandatory days. Had to go to a play outside of class which sucked, but other than that, it was chill. Didn't interact with her too much because I was never in class, but when I did she seemed nice. Lots of athletes in there, so you know that is a good sign.
Don't listen to these other reviews…people are just lazy. Do the work, you'll get an A. Snowden clearly marks when you need to come to class on the syllabus which is nice. You have to see a few plays at Playmakers. She clearly cares a lot about the course material and is easily reachable after class/by email.
I wouldn't call the class an easy A, mostly because your grade is HEAVILY dependent on your TA. Some are fine, but others are extremely stingy. The paper was graded harshly, but most of the other assignments weren't too difficult.
Some of the lectures were interesting while others were not at all. Grading is mostly chill except for one review paper, which was heavily weighted and mine was graded by a pretty rude TA that dropped my grade a good bit. There is some group work for attendance that sucks. You have to buy many extra books but you don't really need the textbook.
This class is a breeze if you put in some effort. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is light - just weekly reading quizzes and a few papers. Unstuck study was super helpful for prepping for the exams. Overall, an easy A.
Take DRAM 116 for a focus capacity. Class often ended early, assignments are easy worst part is reading the plays. Graded on attendance, midterm and final (both take home), in class group assignments, and quizzes on plays. Extra credit opportunities. Beware won't round your grade.
Tons of assignments and can get unlucky with TA grading. Snowden is a knowledgeable professor who loves drama but makes the class difficult. Wouldn't recommend that highly for a focus capacity anymore.
Class was alright, some of the plays we had to see in person were somewhat interesting but overall not too fun of a class. You could tell Snowden felt that her students didn't seem to care too much about her class and she combatted this with 8 mandatory attendance checks which were annoying.
