Unconventional style, real casual, Homework rarely checked. Basis of grades is basically a portfolio of all your best writing to be handed in at the end of the semester. When lecturing she's offbeat and wacky. But one on one she's very helpful. NO topic is taboo in class discussions.
I love her. She is very nice. Very easy grader. Essays are your choice. Topics in her class are open we talked about everything you could imagine. I would def take her again!!! Actually i am for EG13.
This lady is very nice and helpful.shes open to changing due dates for assignments. All you need is a portfolio of your best work at the end of the semester. hw's never checked, and doesnt mind about attendance

Ok, I guess it was just me, but she seemed very off topic. She had us studying poetry and film for an ENGLISH/WRITING class. My journalism proffessors assume I've learned better college english skills from that class and I didn't. Just a lot about the movie Black Hawk Down...
She is a good prof keeps your interest in the class. Can get off topic a little but its good to keep your interest in the clas. I would recommend her and def would take her again
I would never want to miss any of her classes . The only thing i would have to say about her is make sure you keep up with the homework and you will pass the class.

Was def. a feminist. Also, she gave quizzes at the beginning of class but never returned the grades. On the tests she only gave you points if it was the answer she wanted, so there was so room for imagination. I got a B, but I thought I did better.
Teacher was alittle strange, but she was nice. She gave a tremendous amount of work. I got an A in her class, but it was alittle rough. I took the summer session with her.

I think she was a madd cool teacher, the work wasn't crazy and the test were pretty easy. She's a mad down to earth person and very funny little on the feminist side but it's all good. Highly recomend her
She was the best professor I ever had so far at SCCC. She is awesome she actually made me think about changing my major to english. She gets off topic alot very easy going I definatly recommend you take Dr. DeLong.she is a Great women.
She is very close minded and opinionated, and if your essays are not according to her opinions she rips them apart. she doesn't tell you anything regarding your actual writing, just your thesis. she rarely talks about actual english in her class and talks about her self a lot. if your on the same page as her you'll like her class.
I have delong now and she is the best english teacher i've ever had. class is fun and interesting every day and she's an awesome professor. the work isn't too bad, as long as u read the one essay she asigns each class ur golden

She's a great proffesor. I can't say that she is over opinionated as she like to relate to her students rather that be condesending (she has a mind?). Her off topic rambling is actually on subject or tends to steer itself back on.
Definitely has social views that shine through in her choice of literature but at the same time she's not there to preach. She just picks literature she enjoys So many English teachers think it's their job to preach at you with their opinions but she just wants you to learn how to read and digest literature. Damn good teacher and one hell of a gal!

Worst teacher at SCCC. Wastes large amounts of class time with irrelevant stories, and puts the burden catching up on you. Heavy workload, claims to be a medievalist. Hates men, makes this very clear. I got a B+, my lowest grade ever, and still had to work my ass off. Obviously bitter from her divorce & will likely spend the rest of her life alone.

Dr. Delong is an EXCELLENT prof.Quirky yes, but fun and extremely helpful. She doesn't rush through chapters. She wants to make sure we fully get the material before going on to the next. As for hating men, I have never seen this behavior in our class. She's a very fair teacher. She cares about our success. I highly recommend her. She's great!!!

If you are a student that truly wants to learn, not just to regurgitate select material for tests like the person below me, then take this professor. Yes, she is quirky, but that's preferable to a boring, mundane professor. She challenges her students to think outside the box and to question what we see around us. A true COLLEGE professor.
Do not take her. She is a midievalist and is FACINATED with things like Star Trek, Transformers, and Harry Potter. Very bitter about divorce she mentions it a lot. All she does is beat stories to the ground for the entire class. Quizzes are very in detail. Must read every night. 3 text book required. Painfully boring. 2 papers midterm/final on text
Horrible. Easy class but soooo boring. She's very judgemental. Wears cat socks everyday and lives with a lot of cats apparently. Gets emotional about stupid things. She is hilarious. This is such a great class, she jokes everyday. She says to read every night and really learn the books but she goes over everything so you dont even have to buy them, even tho they are mandatory. I would def. suggest taking this class DeLong is so funny.

I missed 8 classes it was so painful, and dropped on the last day. I get very good grades but I was going to fail her class. Everyone wanted to rip their ears off during class. She's impossible to listen to and take seriously. She's very unreasonable and won't take you seriously in the least, Do not take her..

Obviously all of the negative reviews were from students that failed class. Teacher was awesome. Remember kids, you are in COLLEGE, not high school. That means you actually have to learn to get a good grade, not sit around like an idiot your whole life!DeLong is not a man hater, or boring at all and she is perfectly clear about her expectations.
She comes off as insane! But that's just because she's a fun going, silly person. She does indeed expect A LOT form you. However she is a fair at grading. She offers help everyday in her office at the same time. If you try in her class shell make sure you pass.
Dont listen to most of the negative reviews.. Just finished her class yesterday and not once did I consider her crazy.. STRUCTURE OF ENGLISH WAS A GREAT CLASS THAT QUENCHED MY CURIOSITY OF HOW SENTENCES ARE BUILT AND USED.THIS CLASS REQUIRES ALOT OF READING IN ORDER TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT, CLASS LECTURES ARE FROM START TO FINISH . Average teacher, bad person. Her personality is very abrasive and she is condecending. She makes connections with almost every text to how evil men are. She also talks about how horrible her ex husband is. She brags about her doctorate at least once a week. Overall if you're looking to enjoy a class, dont take her. If you're looking to pass its ok.
This professor was very unclear with all of her assignments, I didn't try very hard in class and still passed with a B. She wouldn't my pick ever again
Very unclear about every assignment she ever gave out in class. Hands out papers written in spoken English and then expects graduate level inferences about literature. Somehow finds ways to create themes of gender rolls in EVERY SINGLE PIECE. She also failed to give me a grade in the class without sending me an e-mail as to why(against SCCC policy)
She's really funny and she understands about people getting stressed out and all but she's defiantly a hard grader. SHe always looks at the ceiling when she talks and some of the things she says are a bit uncomfortable. Good professor but tough.

Tough
Dr. Delong is a good professor that I would take again if given the chance. She is a little bit on the harder side and does expect you to work, but if you put in the work you will be alright in her class. She has some interesting topics that are different from many other professors and also gives you a lot of freedom on the topics of your paper.

i got lucky getting her as my professor my first year at Suffolk . She's the teacher you should get if you actually want to learn something she's tough but I learned a ridiculous amount in a couple of short months and i couldn't be happier I plan to take her for ENG101 as well !!!
Don't take her if you care about your GPA. Seriously, there are so many more professors at suffolk who aren't vindictive and condescending like this woman is. Avoid AT ALL COSTS.
I took her honors robots course and the class was super interesting and an easy A. My friend and I barely participated in class but still both got A's in the course. There are no tests, only class discussions after a unit. There were only two writing assignments and a presentation due at the end of the semester, on the last day of class.
extremely condescending towards her students. has to make everyone feel like they know nothing and shes the smartest person in the room. always makes sly comments under her breath about students work. do whatever you can to keep yourself from ending up in one of her classes. not worth it.
I learned more in her freshman composition class than I did in my four years of high school English. She gives good feedback and wants her students to do well. Only three papers were assigned, and the instructions were very clear, and she helped us tremendously through the process. I highly recommend taking her class!
Went into this class thinking there would be a mix of tests quizzes and papers. To my surprise there was only papers. She is a very tough grader and the only thing that gets graded is the papers. If you are like me and are a better test taker than writer don't take her!
She really knows her stuff and does a good job teaching it, only complaint is she has such a short temper when it comes to students asking questions, getting up during class or talking, she cannot handle it. She's a fair grader and everything is fair game.
Her online classes are pretty easy. She gives you a solid two weeks to do everything per unit. The only down side to her is she has a BAD attitude, and isn't afraid to make you feel stupid if you post something wrong/forget to do something in your work. Overall I would take her online again if I had to.

I asked a question about one of our portfolio topics because I don't get it and I know a lot of other people in the class didn't get it either. so when I asked she said she posted how it should be on blackboard just not wanting to be talked to AND I still do not get it. Me just looking at a picture of what is should be doesn't not explain anything.
She hates when students ask questions, as if you are abruptly interrupting her teaching. Has no patience with students or people in general. Overall not a nice person who will usually make you feel stupid. I will say though the topics she covers can be interesting and it isnt difficult to pay attention, but I suggest you find a different professor

During the coronavirus she was not specific on the topics and how to do the assignments . She was very rude to her students and was no help outside of class when emailing her she would not get back to you or just plainly call you stupid for asking question . She should not be a teacher if shes not going to actually work with her student to pass.

Was unaware about my assignments were not accessible because I used Google documents I have never had an issue using Google documents with any other professor that Ive ever taken. she then sends me a multitude of rude emails eight days after I am able to withdraw myself from the class. DONT take any of Audrey Delong's courses. I excel at most English courses, but her teaching almost made me fail freshman composition last semester. She is extremely rude, extremely discouraging, extremely sarcastic and lacks many supportive qualities that a professor should have. There is literally no need to act like that towards your students.
So, I was one of the only students who participated in her class and if I would get an answer wrong she would FLIP OUT and go off on a rant. Like, are you serious?!?!?!?! I'm the only one who is trying and that's how you're going to react?!?! Alright then!
First time I emailed her was because I wanted a further explanation as to why I received a low grade so that I may improve for next time, and she responded as if she wanted to argue. She was always so rude, and I know it was not just to me because she would give impolite responses to other students on our discussion boards for everyone to see.

I would like to give a fair review, so I have been trying to come up with something positive to say about this professor - but I am unable to come up with anything. She is quite simply the worst professor I have ever had. This class was a complete waste of time and money - I can honestly say I learned NOTHING.

Do not take class with this teacher! She was so rude in her comments to me! Completely unqualified to be teaching. I would like to know how she keeps her job when so many students are forced to withdraw from her class. I've never had a teacher talk to me in the tone that this woman has. I will be making a formal complaint.

The readings she gives us sometimes are super long and excessive. She's a tough grader and if you don't have exactly what she's looking for in a paper you will get a bad grade.
My first grade I received was a D+ and I usually breeze through English class. Also be aware DONT use grammar checkers in her class like grammarly. Like many other ratings on here state she is very rude, it feels like she is working against you not with you. If you are expecting to get a decent grade then good luck with that.

In all honesty, if you put in effort and listen to her directions/ rubrics, her class is not hard. She is funny, and if you put in the effort and are respectful, she will answer your questions well. I would advise taking her class if you plan to go to a 4 year after Suffolk since she is one of the more advanced profs.
Took her class last year. IDK why everyone says she's a bad prof. If you follow the rubrics she gives, put in effort, and participate, you will do well. I took her last year. She was rlly mean to one girl, English was not her first language so she put her work in a translator and she was almost failed for it. I Handed in one assignment late and was told I failed for the semester, when I stopped coming I received rude emails . She is so mean and will kill ur love for writing. DO NOT TAKE
She was really great. She's tough, but she wants you to do your best. All you have to do is follow her directions and ask questions if you need help. I loved her sarcastic sense of humor! You just have to get her to get where she's coming from with the class. She really does care about you.
Avoid this class if possible. The professor is extremely rude and harsh, often shouting at students. The grading system is confusing, and she seems to work against rather than with students. However, Unstuckstudy proved helpful for improving my study prep.
On accident I switched the summarization of characters so she assumed I was cheating and gave me an F. I also had health problems and I couldn't do any of her work for a week which I also explained to her and gave her proof and you know what she said “talk to the dean and prove it to them not to me”. Then she said to drop her class due to this.
Best Prof. I ever had. Very sweet and gentle, as she makes sure you're the very best that you can be. A true inspiration to us all. Definitely would never yell at the special needs kid that sat in front of me.
For a 102 class, she was an insanely harsh grader. I categorize myself as a good writer and she assumed I was cheating on every single assignment, even when I showed proof that I wasn't. She needs to take a look at what she's teaching. It's English 102 not a masters class. She's hurting our gpa before we can even get out of the 100 level classes.
I have no idea why she has such bad reviews. She was extremely nice throughout the entire semester and graded very fairly. English is my least favorite subject, but her topics were so interesting that I actually enjoyed writing for once.
