tests are impossible.she doesnt care if everyone fails. shes just mean
Awful teacher. I have never seen a worse teacher.

Hammerich is a beast and her TS's suck. Don't take 114 or 112 with her... you will work your ass off and won't get a good grade. The tests are designed for an average of 50, but everyone fails pretty much.
I've never worked so hard and still get bad grades. Her way of grading homework is unfair and her tests are impossible. She has to make such a huge curve on them and still we do terrible. Her notes are hard to follow and not helpful. DONT TAKE HER!!!
Ridiculously difficult. Horrible at teaching and explaining. Impossible tests - made for maximum failures.
She doesn't teach, she talks for 50 min. Her test are impossible and writes them so the ave is 50%.
final is this week. i'd be happy with a C
Worst prof I have ever had. She doesn't teach and rambles for 50 minutes. I would never recommend anyone taking an chem classes at this university
i hate her. i dont know how i pulled off a C last semester. but this semester is even worse. dont take her, and if u did, DROP her. fast.
she is super stupid! well actually she is really smart but she cant teach for crap. wtf is this?! i go to class...study more than what i did for 112 w fetzer, and I STILL GET BAD GRADES! her TAs even hate her. haha she looks like the thing from lotr
Do all the homework, don't study the day before the exam. This class is OKAY..could get an A...if you work your butt off! But an A is possible...but at the end...it all depends on your points, there is no rounding up!
She never knows what she's talking about. If you are having a hard time getting sleep at night, just start going to here class. PS, most of the material on her tests is out of the book and she doesn't even go over it after the test.
Class is super hard! Try and keep up w/ readings before class...MAKE SURE YOU READ!!! and her test are impossible !!! But luckily curves are high..TRY and get Brian as a TA he made class fun worth goin to...good TA
confusing at best
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!
Her tests were hard. But it was obvious that she loved what she was teaching. Always willing to stay after class to answer questions. Had study sessions for the exam. Good preparation for Organic Chem.
She seems like a monster at first but the farther into the semester it gets the more she tries to help you out. Her tests are tricky but if you read the book you should do okay.
this is a 300 level professor, your not going to understand her. You gotta teach yourself, which is possible. Make sure you do good on your labs that helps and get exams from previous years, THATS KEY!

Cannot understand anything that is going on it that class
This teacher is horrible. Her main goal is to fail as many students as possible. She was on probation for failing %60 of her 500+ student class. Her tests cover two to three times the material that the other chem112 teacher covers. Overall, I must say that this is the worst professor I've ever had.
if you didnt understand chem before this, you still wont by taking this course. if you can, get harwood. yes, or fetzer. stay away from hammerich. you know the devil baby in the hull house? it grew up to be hammerich.
Pros: Was fair for a 300 lvl chemistry professor. A/B is definitely possible. Those who did not understand the material lacked sufficient math background or did no work at all. exams similar to hw Cons:confusing when deriving equations. 'i' squared or multiplication gets carried out incorretly..
This is a garbage class. I heard Harwood was better so im taking her 114 class next semester. Hammerich is the devil
I don't know why people hate her so much. Sure she can seem mean and ****y and hard most of the time, but first of all, 2/3 of the class is always talking while she's teaching and even I can't hear her and I sit in the 3rd row. They deserve what they get. And I think she's fair on her tests/hw.
Considering that I am a straight A student who works very hard, I feel my evaluation is fair. She does not know how to teach at this level. Be prepared to spend hours and hours working just to pass this class. She is all over the place in lecture, and probably confuses more than she helps.
she is terrible, don;t take her
She is so bad... I failed her class. I spent the night in the hospital and she wouldn't let me make up the exam I missed while I was there!
Really hard teacher. She's not clear on her notes and seems unprepared during her lectures. She's not a very good visual teacher. You have to really listen to her when she speaks, but that's hard to do because she confuses about the material. I learned more from the book and TA's than from her.
I HATE THIS WOMAN...SHE IS CRAZY AND I'M STUCK WITH HER AGAIN FOR CHEM 114. FOR THOSE WHO HAVE TO TAKE CHEM112 OR 114 WITH HER..I SUGGEST NOT TAKE IT UNTIL HARWOOD OPENS UP...HAMMERICH SO SOOO MEAN, SHE DOESNT LISTEN TO U AND SHE'S NEVER PREPARED IN CLASS..JUST DUNT TAKE HER.
Horrible teacher, I'm getting a B in the class right now and everything I've learned, I've learned by studying on my own from the text. Prepare to spend 5+ hours a week on HW alone, and if you don't get it all right you'll still get NO credit for the HW. She does curve well which is a plus!
You will die if you get her as a professor. There is no possible way to have any interest after this class. Your only saving grace is to get a good TA. Preferrably Jeong Hwang. She is the best. The only plus is that she resembles a Sea Monkey, which is worth a good laugh.
Hammerich is not that bad, she is a good teacher most of the time. The bad thing is that she just doesn't like giving A's because she knows you have to work hard for an A. She only gives like 6-10% A's a semester! The positive thing is that she is a hell of a curver, and that many people could ha
she does not know how to teach!! i did not learn one thing from that class!!! all she does is write a lot of non sence on a ovearhead and then say oops!!1 while u copy everything like crazy thinking she is going to change the overhead!!!
Switching schools for 114 just because I couldn't get into Harwood's 114. I REFUSE to bust my arse another semester for another C. She is ill prepared for lecture and of no help to her students. If the dean of the department sat in for a semester, she'd loose her job.
omg omg omg DO NOT take her as a proffesor otherwise you will die. She is the worst thign to have hit the subject of chemistry. This lady does not know how to teach for the life of her. She doesnt help students, her lectures leave u saying "WHAAA?" and her tests are from her own twisted mind. AHH
JUST DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. PERIOD.
dear god. i somehow managed to pull off a c..thast with studying for a few horus everyday. its really tough, and her lectures are not based on the test..the tests are unbeliveably difficult. im waiting till harwood teaches to take 114.
she is very nice teacher, if you take her you will learn a lot. i agree she is hard but if you are hard working you are fine. because her curevbes are huge. i agree she is bad for lazy people. work hard!!! you willbe fine.
"because her curevbes are huge. i agree she is bad for lazy people. work hard!!! you willbe fine." No student would write this crap. And no student would intentionally write this poorly. Obviously, the professor has been around these boards. Did you write this remark yourself, professor Hammerich?
"she just doesn't like giving A's because she knows you have to work hard for an A. She only gives like 6-10% A's a semester! The positive thing is that she is a hell of a curver" ****. This is obviously another "positive remark" written by the professor herself to boost her poor rating.
Dr. Hammerich does not like giving A's, but since when was it easy to get an A in a University Course? Everyone who wants an A, must earn it with Effort! You cannot expect to survive in this course if you do not study, and all you do is go to lecture and do the homework! Take her!!
She IS the worst thing to hit chemistry. Rambles on and on, although my TA barely knew a word of English. Avoid taking her!
I had her for both Chem 112 and Chem 114...She is krazy. DO NOT TAKE HER. You will get a C or D unless u go to another professor to teach you everything. Her lecture do not help at all, i knew some1 who went to all the lectures but did worse then me on her exams! No multiple choice.Taking Her=RETARD!
I had her for both 112 and 114. She is the best professors in teaching strategies. She is very enthusiastic, due to her, my interest in Chem has increased. I agree her exams are very hard, but the curve is very huge. Hardworkers will be fine! Lazy people will not survive even a minute. U MUST-TAKE-H
DO NOT TAKE HER!SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD.THE ONLY REASON THE CURVE IS SO BIG IS BECAUSE EVERYONE FAILS!!HELLO?HALF MY CLASS WAS GETTING A D!SHE IS CRAZY!!!SHE SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING HUMAN BEINGS!!!
If Hitler had a daughter become a chemistry professor this is what we might have had. This class is a mess. Her lectures are not relevant to the tests. The TAs have no communication with the prof. It's horribly difficult, and you don't learn enough. Avoid at all costs like Ebola.
Make sure that you do all of the homework and practice exercizes. You really have to learn on your own. Try go get a study group together. This class takes a lot of work.
HORRIBLE TEACHER. do not take this class if get hammerich as a teacher. she is aweful. she can't even solve her own problems because they are so difficult. Over half of her class wont pass.
Shes not as bad as ppl seem but u need to do a lot of studyin on your own. Old exams are really helpful because she tends to use a lot of the same questions. She assigns tedious HW which can b a pain. If u put in the time and effort u can get an A cauz she curves A LOT!
Extremely hard, exams are seemingly pulled from out of the sky. Very unclear on material, labs are moderately fun, some tedious, others dumb. Don't take if you can avoid it.
A horrible professor. Very spacy. Avoid if possible.
Don't take her unless you plan on bonding w/ your chem book, your TA, other chem professors so that you understand what the heck she's lecturing and intend on having insomnia.

These classes were insane! The examples in class were super easy compared to the tests, which are ridiculously hard. If you take her, know the properties of Antimony(Sb). Its on every test and quiz!
oh GOD!! i'm strugling! and i have no idea what she's talking about.. i'm screwed!
Go to lecture if you like writing the same equations down over and over and hearing the lisp of she-satan.
I can't stand this woman! She's ALL over the place!
I enjoyed her class and had no problems on the tests.
yea . . . she's really all over the place during lecture, the homework is excessive for the very few points it's worth, and you basically have to teach yourself
No Comments
She's not horrible, but you have to really focus to get the point of what she's saying. I think I would be doing better if I had a better TA. You can do well in her class, but it's a lot of work and the homework is definitely tiresome.
Her only pleasure in life is to see you fail...
Had to drop class because I was failing. Cannot teach.
Worst teacher of all time

hammerich is THE BEST chem professor at UIC. she actually cares and teaches you and I promise you will appreciate her later if you are a chem/biochem major when you have crappy professors and have to teach yourself. slackers dont like hammerich because they are lazy. if you have trouble in her class and are actually working, its bc you are studying in the wrong way. you should go to her and ask her, she will gladly help you. study every day
very difficuly professor but i learned more in her class than any previous chem course. Will have to WORK for an A but it is certainly do-able. Not for people who are not good at Chem, do not study often, and blame their teachers for their grades.
Very confusing, eventually had to skip lecture and teach myself. Ended up with a C. She curves good, but after taking the tests your self esteem droppppps. I reccomend antidepressants and aderol if you plan to take this class. I should of been on it.
Horrible teacher. She doesn't teach, she just supplements the material. Take her only if you are good at self-teaching in this area. She makes it harder than it should be. Buy the solutions manual so you can get the homework right, and pray you make it out alive.
I thought she was completely fair and extremely clear in her style of lecture. Dont beleive what other people write about her. This is college people! Her class covers difficult material, dont expect someone to hold your hand. You are ultimately responsible for your own education. I got an A in her class during the summer when most people failed.
Not too bad for 114 but very difficult. Hopefully you plan on actually opening your book though, or else you will fail.
She is the worst teacher I have ever suffered through. She does not explain her calculations, and I spent more time figuring out what shes doing than I do actually learning.
if you can get a different teacher- i suggest you do so. lecture is completely pointless. lots of homework, minimal points, she doesn't test on it. look at the worksheet and lab. best suggestion: study off old tests from a different term. good luck finding one.
she sucks at teaching and at life
gives too much hw which is only worth 4 points!! lecture is very boring and cannot teach very well....its better to just teach ur self or go to the tutoring center for help....test is hard but if u study hard, u can get a good grade
i want to drop put because of her worst ever sont pick her she on probation her ass should get kicked out
basically she sucks
This lady should have her license taken away from her. She really cannot teach at all. I had her last semester and she was the worst teacher i have ever had ever. If you happen to register for her class, DROP IT NOW WHILE YOU STILL HAVE THE CHANCE!!!
worst teacher, ever.
She is a great teacher if you get on her good side. its not hard to pass but if u study u should be fine
OMG, she is a horrible teacher. She acts really nice one on one and during lecture, but her tests are impossible! She will ask questions in ways you aren't used to. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!
shes IMPOSSIBLE! i would not recommened her at all.. she gives an insane amount of workload
She's terrible...I had to change my major after failing her class. Her class average was a 43, while the other professor was an 87.
She is a great person but she lacks some serious teaching skills and her tests are just impossible!!! NO matter how much you study, she will throw you a curve ball.
Shes a really nice person and can teach but nothing she says in class is in the exam ... most difficult exam went to class all the time for nothin though highly regret taking her even people told me not too i thought they were over doing it ... i was wrong and really regret it!!! you can do well if you study 24/7 in her class to just get a C!
Her lectures are not that helpful. Study your OWL. I got out with a B at the end. She curved alot, which is good. She is better than Prof. Balch, Melita same person as as Morton, Melita L.
She's not too bad. Lectures are hard to understand. She expects you to have read the chapter prior to attending class. If you do this then lecture is very helpfull in clarifying things. Got a B in both 112 and 114.
she ****in sucks and is the harderst professor to understand
SHE SUCKS!!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! The first time I ever got a C in any class thet I have ever taken in my life. Nothing she talks about in class has to do with the exam or the book everything is her own questions... so basically no matter how hard you study your not going to get the grade you may think that you deserve!!!
A warning to those considering not taking Hammerich over Morton/Balch. TAKE HAMMERICH. I've had both professors and Hammerich is an angel compared to Morton/Balch. Chemistry is hard so give yourself every advantage you can.
She ruined my dreams of becoming a chemist.
Breathe...relax...passing chem 112 and chem 114 with Hammerich IS possible. When you first open her test, you'll probably freak out because no matter how hard you study, her weirdly-worded questions never fail to make you feel like you know NOTHING. But she CURVES! An A is usually around 700-75 for 112, and 80 for 114. Just do OWl and extra pro
Chem is actually alright with Hammerich compared to Morton. Hammerich curves nicely and fairly unlike Morton. Hammerich's lectures make no sense so study on your own.
I took Pchem for Biochemists with Hammerich back in 2000. She was really helpful in explaining step by step the various mechanisms and the procedures involved. The numerous handouts she gave were really helpful with the homework assingments
she is actually not a bad professor. i had her fall 05 and eventhough she was intimidating bc of her reputation, her tests weren't that bad. even if you did horrible the curve really helped you out. i liked her a lot better than MORTON/BALCH <- now she sucks so bad. take her over balch any day. dr. hammerich will help you out when you need just ask
These people don't lie, she is horrible! She has insane and unrealistic expectations for a college student with a full time schedule. I changed my major (chemistry) because of this class.
don't even try to take her... it's almost painful.
This lady sucks! I had her after I had taken Morton/Balch and gotten a D, however they are two completely different classes. Balch teaches a lot and expects you to know everthing. Hammerick on the other hand sucks at lecturing and her lectures teach you very little. So you have to teach yourself a lot of stuff. She does curve pretty good though...
omgsh. i MUST post for hammerich. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE believe me when i say that she is aweful. so much owl due sunday nights, impossible exams, and she is just mean in general. she is especially rude when you ask her about ur grade. DONT TAKE HER, SAVE URSELF!!
The course was difficult, but everything depends on a student. She was a good professor that teaches pretty well. She was very organized, followed the syllabus closely and posted all necessary info online. She gave a lot of OWL problems, but it helped me a lot on the exams. Of course I read the book too. Don't forget, it is college chemistry!!!
Ok im takin her right now and really dont see what everyone has to say about her. Yeah her tests are hard but this is college. chemistry is my worst subject but you just have to put in the work to get the grade.
the women is alright. Many people fail, Many end up with Ds, Many repeat the class again, her tests are super hard. Even though all that negative thing about her but she throw a huge huge huge curve after each exam ex she made on one of the exam %40=B. Beaware she yell at students who complain about exam grade.
ugh... I absolutely loathe this class! She confusses me to no end! I seriously don't learn a thing from her. I always have to talk to my TA's instead. She's mean when you ask her for extra help if you don't understand something. Hard tests, so many OWLs. No wonder so many people fail... Basically I learned everything on my own...
I am a course repeater. Last semester I took Paul R. Young who is supposed to be so easy, and walked away having learned NOTHING. Hammrich does give a LOT of homework, but you LEARN! It's not that difficult at all and she is very approachable. If you want to do well in chem 114, TAKE HER! It's hard, but it is worth it!
I personally think whatever you put into the class will come out. She sometimes is confusing where I have to go home and look whatever it is we're looking up. She tries to simplify her math, but she confuses all of us instead. A lot of OWL, but it's where I learned everything. If it's one-on-one and you don't understand something she gets very mad.
I had her for CHEM 112 for Fall 05 and I would definitely would not take her again. WAY too much work, online quiz was absurd. This class took too so much of my time. She will end class early if there's too much talking. She was on probation while she taught, which sucked for us. Tests were very difficult. Avoid if possible.
If you like doing over 100 chemistry problems for five points then take her
most depressing class of my life... number of owls are ridiculous and 5 hours of owls = 4 points... you have to read the sections in the book or have a godly TA to understand what shes teaching. memorize how to solve the problems on her hand outs ( they are really hard, but are always on the tests) Good news is she curved exam a crapload, 70%=A lol
she is a really bad teacher. don't take her class...wait like a semester if you have to...she is a devil...she does not help all...i want in for help two times and both times before exams she said she did not have time to take just read the book.her exams are super hard and nothing like u learn in class. this women is horrible. her class avg.is 65%
She is really nice, but her class is tough. If you like a challenge then go for it. BUT if you dont i advise you take another professor. If there isnt any then wait a semester.
A LOT of OWL for very little points. She tries to simplify her math, but its just more confusing (do it ur own way). Make sure you have an idea on the subject your asking about or else she gets mad. Class average on tests: 50%. BIG curves. Regardless what ppl say on here, she is ok and what you put in is what you get out. Better than balch.I got a
I had her for chem 112 and if you know the material the tests are extremely easy. BIG curves. With her curves I got As. Too many OWLs though. If you depend on a prof. to spoon feed...avoid this one.
She is very nice and curves well. If you have taken AP Chem in high school then you will be fine.
I give her the benifit of the doubt that she knows what she is teaching, but she doesn't know HOW to teach and that's her problem.
Hard, just keep working and working and working...
Hammerich should retire. Though she does understand chemistry, her approach to teaching it is incomprehensible and terrible. PLEASE UIC FIX YOUR HORRIBLE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT- all science teachers here are discouraging children from going on WITH SCIENCE.. and the TAs do not speak English. I wish I knew what I was paying for.
Thankfully I had a good TA (Jeanita) because Hammerich would not teach anything. Going to lecture is pointless as the stuff she would lecture about would be irrelevant to the main topics we were learning. Don't worry about labs because you can BS them, but for tests there were always really random questions that do not pertain to the lesson.
What Hammerich does is TELL you what you need to know. She creates weekly sheets, with homework that should be done before each lecture. DO the HOMEWORK, and understand the concept at least SOMEWHAT before you go to lecture otherwise you'll be totally lost. The exams are a little tough but the curves make it awesome. (57 was an A once).Good teacher
she's a genius but she's a horrible teacher. couldn't understand almost anything she said..the beginning was easy but it got really complicated really fast. class avg was a 66% but she curved it, but it was still low. i have no idea how i passed her class.
Her exams are very hard, but because of this, the curve was very large!! THe class average was 30%... so i was able to get a B. And if u fail your first exam, and improve a letter grade on each exam, she'll think you're improving, and add more points to your total grade. LIke, me, she added 26 points. But she can't do simple algebra.....
I'm not sure why everyone is hating on Audrey so much. She is very organized with her materials and lectures which I appreciate a lot. You know exactly what you need to learn in order to do well in this class. It's hard though-definitely not for nOObs(make sure you know some chem b4 taking this) Tons of OWL, but it helps me learn so I don't mind it
sucks at teaching. puts up question on quizzes and online homework based on things we never learned. after the homework and quizzes are done, she begins teaching that to us the next week. useless teacher. absolutely no need to go to her classes. if you take this class, be prepared to only read the book throughout the semester.
Didn't give a syllabus until the third week of class. Was teaching calc methods even though calc is not a pre-rec for this class. Very unorganized. First test average was a 35, and the class of about 150 dropped to about 40. Most of the time, class had no idea what was going on. Brilliant person, but a terrible teacher.
tests were really hard but she curved them alot. i took ap chem before this and it really helped alot with the material because some of the ways she solved problems were confusing. doing OWLs really helped.
Good teacher. She emphasizes concepts, rather than problems in her notes. OWLs are long but they help you learn. Go to lecture, take notes, do extra problems, study hard. That's what I did and got an A. Her tests are hard, but what Chem 112 test isnt? She curves a lot. On tests, A = 80 (65 on 2nd test). On final, A = 65. Great class, preps you well
She is a great teacher.. it's just you need to study.. the best part about her is she curve aaaa whole lot....She teaches well I would recommend her...She is organized..Probably the only flaw is that she doesn't like when ppl ask ???'s sometimes... but other times she will explain a ? that was asked really well until you get it.. I recommend her.
contrary to many comments here, she's not that bad. her tests are hard, but not impossible. she gives you too much homework, but if you do them, you will be prepared for tests. also, she curves a lot . not bad for 200 level.
If you want an A you have to do TWO things: suffer thru every HW problem she gives, in the end you will thank me. Not only boosts your grade but WILL prepare you for the impossible quizzes/tests. 2) 50% of your grade is the labs, get with someone good and MAKE SURE YOU GET GOOD LAB GRADES. After class she will help you with ?'s, not during.
Very hard class, but what chemistry isnt, be ready to work hard from day 1 and u will be fine
This is a tough class, the exams are pretty difficult and the average is usually in the low to mid 50's but she gives huge curves where a 65 is B, 75 is A. If you study hard every day though you should do fine.
averages for the class was about high 50's low 60's...i thought she was fairly a good teacher. if you came from paul young's class, be prepared for a slap in the face...you will have to re-teach urself the basics..she will prepare you for orgo tho.
Lectures were borderline useless. The class felt very disorganized. She would penalize the student for things she never told us to do. Did not like her teaching style pretty average teacher though in the end grades came out fair due to curve. Quizzes and exam have HUGE time constrain never enough time constantly writing no time to think.
she is a horrible teacher to say the least. she expects you to know everything and hates to help her students and when she does help she has an attitude. she is an awful teacher and smells really bad (smokes a lot)
she is the worst chem prof. I have ever had. she does not teach you anything in class and she expects you to already know everything. you have to read the book to even get the slightest idea of what she is talking about.
Her teaching style is a bit erratic. Take advantage of worksheets online and supplementary materials. Tests are pretty hard, and she'll sometimes put questions that she barely covered in class on there so be careful. However, she is a very friendly and approachable person. Old textbook (Oxtoby) is much more helpful than the new one (Silberberg)
She was a very approachable professor but her style of teaching was really hard t ofollow. I heard she doesnt like teaching from the new book so if you want, pick up a version of the Oxtoby one because that's how I had to learn in that class considering how her lectures weren't too helpful.
Hammerich is a space cadet from hell. She is all over the place with lectures. She will give a quiz on something she hasn't lectured on yet. Completly unapproachable. Grades realllllly hard and does not care. Miss American Duesch bag.
PROS: not the hardest teacher (Balsch is the hardest), easy lab reports, curve a lot ........ CONS: really low grades, hates teaching, gets mad if u dont understand it the first time, not the easiest teacher (Jursich is the easiest).......... overall, i would NOT recommend her
Hammerich's teaching style is very much all over the place. If you're not an independent learner then I suggest you not take her. However, she gives large curves on the exams and at the end of the class. You really have to study if you want to do well in the class and she offers to bring up your grade if you improve.
she should be teaching PHD students not beginners she lacks patience and is very paranoid about exams
Dr. Hammerich is a great professor! She is helpful and always available after lecture. Chemistry is not an easy subject (the quizzes are very difficult) but if you attend lecture, read, and solve her practice problems (she gives out questions every week) you'll do well!
Hammerich likes to think that her class is the only class students take...she is rude during office hours and tends to act like the student is stupid. She is not helpful in emails and does not even answer the question asked. Her exams are ridiculous...there is a 30 point curve. Her T.A.'s don't know what they're doing...and I managed an A...
I've had both Hammerich and Balch and Hammerich is WAY easier. Balch is a terrific lecturer but her exams and quizzes are really hard but you learn a LOT. However, Hammerichs are challenging too but not so much. I think she explains the material very well and in detail
Dr. Hammerich is actually a really nice proffesor but you actually have to do work in her class... you cant just expect to attend lecture and youll know everything actually follow her weekly reccomended homework and do eveyrthing she tells you too and READ the book... it helps alot. This is a tough course but its possible to get an A just work hard
Between Hammerich and Balch, definitely take Hammerich. What i disliked about this class was that Hammerich supposedly forgets that we are full time students and need time for other courses. She is a great person though, helps a lot during office hours. Lecture not helpful, USE THE BOOK! Must be an independent learner. Got an A.
Dr. Hammerich is one of UIC's most Brilliant minds and her lecture actually stimulate you to understand the world. She is always available, and very helpful, and replies really quickly to emails. Even though the material is very hard, you learn a lot, what college is all about, not like many people think of it as a joke.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She is rude in replying back to your e-mails. Acts like her class is the ONLY one students take and don't get fooled by the curve, it doesn't help your grade. She will tell you that all you need is a B on your last practical, quiz and final to get a B in the class and when it comes down to it she still won't pass you. Unfair.
WRST PROF. AT UIC! G.P.A killer! Lec. was like running thru a MAZE...an extremely overwhelming experience. She was all ovr the plce and nvr failed to make mistakes evry frkng lec.! result..utter confusion and a peeve for atoms. ppl who attended lec on the same scale as ppl who didnt! This isn't med schl, and chem isn't our only clss!!
Honestly, it is extremely easy to get an A in this class. I put in some work in the class and ended with a high B and realized that I should have studied twice as hard and would have easily gotten an A. although she is useless herself, just read the book, do problems and do ALEKS. seriously it comes in handy. Also, find previous exams nd just study
Crash and burn course. She's nice but that's it. I feel lucky w/ a W. Her tests require that you do all the HW problems that she says to do but there is too much HW, but even if u do everything, still too difficult. The ?'s on her test require careful attention. Some of them are long and similar to complex lab situations. Avoid if possible.

She said if I get 70% or better on my exam I will get an A. I got a C and I felt I did great on the final. Are you effin kidding me?! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. Lectures don't help. Make sure you get past exams... the only way i "learned"
Hammerich is very very nice. She always tries to be helpful if you see her outside of class. She's not the most brilliant mind, inherently, at UIC, but she can be of some help. However, the fact that the labs for 222 are graded on precision, and that the equipment is crap, makes it extremely hard to get an A; I was one of the lucky few.
She was way hard, gives a ton of homework, assignments, long long quizes and tests. My biggest issue is that she gets lost in lectures later in the semester and most people stop paying attention.
She is by far too over qualified to teach for an undergraduate she should be ina graduate school /PHD setting. She fails to realize that the reason students are taking her class is because its a "stepping stone" for non chem majors... I am right now in Med School and I don't find a single thing i learned in her class useful today.
DO.NOT.TAKE.THIS.CLASS. Starts w/ 200 students. Ends with 50. Do yourself a favor and do NOT TAKE HER! The TA's are helpless. She barely has office hours. She thinks the students know everything about chem so expects you to 100% self learn. Horrible professor. Labs weren't terrible, but very boring and long. Take with a different professor!
worst professor ever
Absolutely try to avoid taking any Gen Chem class with her. She is very disorganized in class and it is very hard to take effective notes. The amount of homework she gives is ridiculous, and her exams are also very difficult. An A is possible (I was one of the lucky ones who got an A), but you really have to work hard!!!
Ungodly busy course; two labs per week with great disconnect between lecture and lab material. Labs graded highly on precision. Gen chem course on steroids, failed to fully explore implications of quantitative analysis. Picky homework assignments, but she, as well as her TAs, are always willing to help you understand.
she is helpful by her means. can be confusing at times, but if you read and A is possible.
She comes with a different approach to the material because of her math training, but her teaching style isn't too bad and she's incredibly helpful if you struggle.
Get ready to get challenged at maximun. This class is a very tough class. She is not a horrible instructor but she isnt the best. An ok professor that will push you to your maximum potential. Read the book, understand the material and expect more than what she explains in the class. Tests're kinda hard. She likes asking things that one my not know.
It's obvious that chemistry is a subject that requires a lot of practice (lab + homework). She's an okay prof. Exams are hard with unpredictable questions, but not impossible to get an A (there's grade curve). You will need to spend effort in this course, and of course, you will learn a lot in return. By the way, my TA (Autumn) is great.
ALOT of work for a 200 level class. 2 3 hour labs a week, online homework plus written assignments weekly, and quizzes in class every 3 weeks. As a professor, she gives you notes online, but she expects alot. Approachable, with office hours and kind women. Not a chemist however, and tends to make math mistakes when explaining. Challenging course.
Hardest class i've taken so far. 2 labs every week that take all your time up plus the online hw and turn in hw. its been 3 weeks since the beginning of class and i feel like hell. Doesn't know how to explain. still going for the A though.
Her lectures are at times difficult to follow. She expects her students to prepare for class and gives a clear outline of what needs to be done prior to showing up. If you are lost or confused she will gladly help you to understand it. She loves chemistry and knows her stuff. OWL homework online was a pain and worthless.
I cannot recommend this course and instructor highly enough. Hammerich gives difficult exams, tough lectures, and a lot of homework, however, she is EXTREMELY helpful in office hours, and the class is set up such that if you show up to lectures/ discussions, and do the suggested work, an A is very doable. Definitely go to office hours!
OMG! DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HAMMERICH!!!! This course itself is very hard and lots of labs. Hammerich gave us assignments every week, 2 sapling hw and quiz in every two weeks. there are two labs in one week. very hard to keep up with all the works. do not take this course with her.
She is very good at explaining chemical reactions. although lectures can be boring, it does help to sit there and listen to her. She is strict, but she is wiling to help. The first 5 weeks can be difficult, but it should get better. Just do well in labs, and... her exams does require good understanding of chemistry, not just problem solving skill.
I loved Professor Hammerich. I was terrified of her at first but if you actually take the time to go to her office hours she will go to the moon and back to help you out. She assigns way too much work, but she knows her stuff--in fact she seems really overqualified to be teaching undergrad. Developing a rapport with her will go a long way.
Dr. Hammerich is a fantastic teacher. Yes, the subject material is very difficult and you must put a lot of work into this class if you want to do well. However, she is very open to helping you if you ask for it. Go to her office hours and get help right away if you need it. Learn how to take partial derivatives and do error calculations!!
AVOID TAKING THIS COURSE WITH HAMMERICH AT ALL COSTS! She's hard to understand, and isn't good at explaining things. Her notes are hard to understand and you basically have to learn everything from the book. If I hadn't taken Chem before I would be completely lost.
Amazing teacher! If you have the opportunity to take chemistry with her, please do! I don't think I'd be as successful as I am today without her help and ability to teach such a difficult, complex subject. Seriously though, take this class!
She is seemingly incredibly passionate about chemistry. I had her for an honors general chemistry course and I learned and retained a lot from the class. I really don't see how one can dislike her but I guess that is just me. She is real with you.
Dr. Hammerich I am sure is a great person and you can see her passion for chemistry, she just isn't the best at communicating things in lectures. She makes many mistakes, and goes over topics way to fast in her lectures. Often I leave class feeling worse then when I went in. She curves tests greatly due to extremely low averages.
Dr. Hammerich is very smart woman and obviously knows her stuff. But, for 112, she has designed a class that much harder than it needs to be. You need to put in a LOT of work on your own just to get a B, maybe an A. Her lectures make sense but when you apply them to the tests, it's nearly impossible. Take 112 w someone else.
Absolutely horrible teacher. She knows her chemistry but can't teach it. Her lectures lack conceptual info that is relevant to understand material and she adds things on the exams never mentioned in class or in the book. I highly suggest taking any other teacher.
This class is hard, especially for an introductory chemistry course. Dr. Hammerich is amazizing at chemistry but makes this class like a 300 or 400- level class. Reading the book is MANDATORY! If you read the sections in the book before lecture, you would be as confused because it's hard to keep up with her during lectures.
Hammerich is hands down the worst professor that I have ever had. She is scatter brained and not very helpful to her students. She is very condescending to her students and her TA's aren't any better. Made me think that I was dumb at chemistry even though its my major. Must work ten times harder to get even a B.
WARNING: Do not take this professor. I took Chemistry before, got an A, and still struggled in her class. She treats her Chem 112 like it's 114. She knows her stuff but she is a horrible horrible teacher. Even if you all your homework and do well on labs, if you can't do well on her exams then you won't even make a B in the class. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
I had the opportunity to compare my first exam with the first exam of other professors and realized that they are fairly different. I would say Hammerich makes her quizzes and exams much more difficult than needed for General College Chemistry. First exam was a little hard, Second exam was killer, and Third exam seemed like she eased up a little.
Her lectures consists of her talking about global warming and the history of Chemistry. She's all over the place when explaining how to do a problem. Her exams and quizzes are way harder than other professors that teaches CHEM 112. Overall, don't take her for any classes.
DO NOT TAKE HER. What ever you do, do not take Hammerich unless you want to ruin your gpa. She won't care that you did badly either, even if chem is your major. The other Chem 112 classes are SO much easier. Take someone else. Please don't make my mistake.
You should definitely attend lectures. Her discussion worksheets are useful for preparing for the exams. Labs are pretty straightforward if you have a good partner, but the calculations can get very confusing. REMEMBER all the weird elements and compounds.
What most people fail to understand is the fact that no matter how "good" or "bad" the professors are, you are the one who has to teach most of the content yourself. I think that the mark you get in her course is directly reflected on the effort you put in chem. Exams as always are going to feel hard, (not everyone can get A 's you know?) Study m8!
I took her for Chem 112 and I never spoke with her because I chose not too. I would rather get help on my own or from my TA. She would do problems and then mess up her algebra and get lost and would work on her fixing her algebra for 5+ minutes. As a person I am sure she is nice but I simply don't like chemistry and I would never take her again.
This was a general chemistry course. Her lectures are helpful if you pay attention. Her tests are long and hard, so make sure you know the material. Overall, she's a cute lady. Online homework every week. Mandatory discussion. If you ask for help it's there in the form of the professor andor the TAs. Good luck!
My first ever college class was CHEM112. Of course my first class was hard and I just thought it was because it was my first day, but it only got harder. Do not take this class coming straight out of High School, it will destroy you. She is very mathematical in her teaching and she goes super fast so it is hard to follow. Try to take someone else.
Hammerich is the hardest chem professor I have ever had! She makes everything much more complicated than it should be, you have to know the concepts well. She doesn't use blackboard nor does she provide study guides or PowerPoint lectures. All her lectures are on done on an overhead projector and goes through them fast. She makes the tests tricky!
I must say having a good amount of knowledge prior to entering her class, I still felt due to her teaching style id have to work hard to earn a decent grade. Her lectures are unnecessarily complicated. dropped.
I liked her. She was willing to work with me once I went into her class to get help. It's not an easy class by any means, and you have to work hard to get the grades.
She really dumbs down Chemistry and all you have to do is show up to class and the tests are basically what's on the ppt. She is one of the best chemistry professors out there. I would definitely recommend her.
She's definitely helpful if you go to her with any questions. She really knowledgeable and knows her information. As long as you put in some effort, you will do fine.
She's really passionate about chem but she's just not good at teaching it. AT ALL. It seems as if her exams are designed to fail. Expect homework, 30 questions per week. She's also rude to her students when we ask questions. She gets easily frustrated when we don't understand the concepts right away & she expresses it by embarrassing us in lecture
Make sure to do all the weekly worksheet problems and supplemental problems. Lots of exam questions come off of those with just the numbers changed a little bit. Prof's super helpful in office hours. Really sweet and fascinating professor in person.
It's a hard class and her teaching style during lecture is confusing. She still uses an overhead projector. If you go to her review sessions before the exams, she's really helpful and will tell you what kinds of questions to expect on the exams if you ask her. She curves the exams a lot; for one exam a 70% was an A.
Hammerich is definitely the hardest professor for 114. She makes you work hard for your grade but she also curves a lot which is helpful. You can't study the night before for an exam. Find a good TA and study hard. She prepares you for orgo!
Hammerich is a tough professor for a gen chem class. There are 3 exams, weekly sapling assignments, 4 quizzes, and 4 practicals, so u have to be on top of ur game because this class will take a lot of ur time. She curves her exams by a lot. If she sees you putting in effort she will bump your grade up if you are borderline. Hard work, but got an A
Hammerich wants you to understand the material rather than be able to just do problems you've previously seen. I got an A, but it was very challenging. She sets you up for orgo which I finally appreciate now that I'm not stressed anymore. Read the book and extra assigned readings to pass. Overall, I would take her again despite how hard it was.
Dr. Audrey Hammerich is a kind teacher. Sit in the front b/c people like to talk toward the back. Throughout the semester the lecture room will get empty because this is a difficult course; however it is not impossible if you pay attention and read. She curves generously, but you still have to work hard. Her office hours are what saved my grade!
I found out why her class is the only chem section at UIC with about 50 spots open. All other sections were full and its been like that every semester. She is very mean when answering questions, very confusing as well. She just works on problems and doesn't explain the formulas . Homework and quiz right on the second week of class!! No make ups!!!
Most people say this class is hard yet for some reason i received a better grade here than in chem 112 by a more highly rated professor. Curves a lot for the exams, for example I received a 66% on one which was a B. If you ask a question in lecture she sounds angry to answer the question. Work gets tough but study and you'll get it.
I didn't think Dr. Hammerich was too bad. The average of the first exam was a 50 something % and she said she was VERY pleasantly surprised and that we might ruin her reputation (as a hard professor) lol. She curves left and right, the quizzes, labs, practicals, each page of each exam, the whole exam, and the final grade. Be sure the read though!!
Her class is tough but she's there in office hours if you need help and is always willing to help you out. The class is intimidating but she's soo nice. She curves the class a lot, but you still need to work for the grade you want. Read the textbook and do the OWL homework it helps!
A very approachable professor. It's a difficult class and the tests are very difficult, but the class curve makes the class manageble. Very accomondating professor really sweet outside of her lecture and if you sincerely ask for help she will sincerely give it to you. If you're the student that misses an exam and expect a make- up well no!
Hammerich is the hardest 114 professor but definately glad I took her. She prepares you for Orgo and even though her tests and quizzes are hard she curves a lot which makes your desired grade more manageable to attain. If you want to learn take her class. I am not a science major so I find chem harder than usual.
Very difficult course follow all the homework and memorize how to do each problem on her discussion worksheets that got me an A.
Honestly, Chem 222 (analytical chemistry) is not that hard, but the way that Hammerich "teaches" just confuses everyone. Don't bother going to lecture, just study Sapling and the textbook. Her lectures are very basic while her exams/quizzes are more difficult and in depth. Also be ready to do A LOT of homework: 2 labs a week + sapling + written hw
Chem 114 isn't something you would expect to be quite easy. Professor Hammerich isn't the best one but she truly prepares you for Organic Chemistry. Her exams are quite challenging but then again she curves a lot. Lectures are not mandatory but attending the lectures helps you prepare for the exams. Go to her office hours and she will help!
At this level you'd expect to follow the math pretty well on your end. However, there were many math errors during most of her lectures. supplemental material was often more helpful than going to lecture. she likes to do in class assignments randomly to give extra pts for those who attend class. Material can be real confusing, but it's do able.
Her lectures are good if you come to class prepared but you won't understand anything if you havn't given any original thought to a problem. Here's how to do well in UIC pchem: find your own textbook with sol manual do the easiest problems figure out the units kno the equations. start asking her questions about her homework because its really hard.
Too much work, so little time. VERY hard grader. Very confusing, lecture difficulty vs labs, tests, quizzes difficulty was no where close to the same.
She has no real idea how to teach. She has good intentions, and she's obviously brilliant, but she doesn't know how to impart that information. The lectures are a waste of time; she might even cover some material, but it doesn't help you complete the homework or even do the tests. Too fast-paced, and goes on tangents a lot. Good luck keeping up.
Awful awful class. More work than in pchem or orgo 2, tons of homework. Homework is due before she explains it in lecture. Labs are graded seemingly randomly, as well as lab notebooks. Impossible to get an A unless you put HOURS AND HOURS of work into this course. Not worth it. Garbage structure, would never take again.
Lectures are useless. Vast majority of the class never finishes the difficult exams. Every question appeared to be a curveball. Most of my semester involved doing work for this class. Labs are basically just data analysis but are graded harshly by TAs. Avoid if possible.
The worst professor at UIC by far! She is not fair. She gives a crap load of homework assignments to turn in person and to submit online. Her quizzes and exams are not the same material she reviews in class, so be prepared to study on your own. Absolutely hated her lectures, apparently so did she, she would have tantrums on how confusing it was.
Usual teacher. Passed exams with minimal effort (for a C grade). Way too much work for this class though, theres a 3 hour lab twice a week on top of 2 lectures a week and atleast 3 hours of homework a week. That doesnt include studying on top, thats just the basic requirement if you want to do the bare minimum.
The amount of homework she assigns is exaggerated, especially if you are taking other demanding courses. On top of this, you are penalized heavily for getting wrong answers. The same goes for her tests, they are just too long for the time allotted. Worst professor I have had, and I am a senior Biochemistry major.
She is a very boring professor but she makes the material easy to understand even though she is sometimes vague with her explanations. As long as you continuously go to the lectures and take good notes, you will undoubtedly succeed.
You write down the answers shown in the textbook and in lecture and they are marked wrong on the tests. Her tests do NOT reflect what is taught in the textbook, homework, and lecture. If she is teaching this class, do NOT take her & wait a semester for a new teacher for CHEM 222. Only positive is she is a nice person outside of class.
She's a terrible professor, makes a lot of mistakes while teaching , sometimes giving the wrong equations. Her lectures are a waste of time. She spends most of her time explaining graphs instead of going over problems. Her exams and quizzes are way different from sapling and assigned homework. Please future CHEM 222 students don't take her.
Average professor. This class I feel was not too different from General Chemistry II so I paid very little attention and still passed. She makes small mistakes like addition and multiplication errors, but not wrong equations. Do the online homework and you are set for the exams. Anyone who says shes a bad professor probably doesnt know how to study
Does not explain any concepts thoroughly during lectures. You barely understand what she is talking about because she has a habit of fling through concepts and expecting to understand them all. Does not use Slides/Powerpoint for lecture; uses a projector. Lecture notes are on a Word Document shared through her website. Also doesn't use Blackboard.
Professor Hammerich is definitely one of the hardest professors I have ever had throughout my studies of General Chemistry, however, she provides lots of practice problems and cares about the success of her students. The class is curved so even if you get a low grade, you might be getting a C in the class. Take her if you wanna challenge yourself.
Dr. Hammerich is overwhelmingly a difficult professor, but she does care. Her teaching style is hectic and seems geared towards those who have already taken chemistry. Be prepared for tangents in lecture. However, the class is curved nicely and there are opportunities to raise your grade through showing improvement. She isn't awful, but not easy.
Compared to other pchem professors at UIC, she can make hard material digestible. I really enjoyed her lectures as they are engaging. She is also a nice and interesting person to talk to outside of class. She is good because she likes what she does! I also like hes sense of humor and found some of her mannerisms amusing in a good way of course.
Professor Hammerich has been truly an amazing Chemistry teacher. She truly cares for her students and really wants them to understand the material. The reason why so many people had a hard time in her class is because they did not want to read the book. Overall a fantastic teacher and I only wish she would teach Organic Chem 1
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! This is THE WORST professor I have ever taken at UIC. If you see this professor teaching CHEM 340, wait or take the class at another college. The exams are insane and the lectures make no sense. Her curving of the grades is a trick, it will not be a good curve. RUN!!!
I have enough credits to have a Bachelor degree and then some. Decent person I think, but worst professor I have ever had. Lectures are confusing and don't teach me anything. I had As in every other class but a C in hers. I barely passed. I worked hard and studied 16 hrs without sleep for the final and still barely passed. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR.
I had a perfect 4.0, all A's in my previous classes until this class. The lectures just confuse you. Her lectures damage brain cells and they make you stupider. Avoid any class she teachers, you will regret it. Your money will be wasted if you take her classes.
A lot of people claim she is the worst but they don't work for it. Prof. Hammerisch is tough but an 80 and above is considered an A without the curve. The exams are hard but she curves every exam AND the final grade so you can't really complain. Don't need to attend lectures but make sure you know you study a lot and attend discussions.
Dr. Hammerich truly is one of the hardest professors I have ever had at UIC tough one of the cleverest and most caring ones. She sincerely wants you to succeed in her class and is willing to help you whenever you need so. Her office doors are always open to anyone who struggles in class and she is very amusing some times. The class is HIGHLY curved
Mega nice
I thought that she was a great teacher. After reading the reviews I was worried about taking her but she was the best professor I've had so far. I think people do not like her because she has a very old fashioned teaching style but I loved it. She would use one of those projectors that I hadn't seen since elementary school and write everything out.
SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!
Dr. Hammerich is one of the hardest Chem professors at UIC. She treats CHEM II as if it was a 400 level course. However, she curves the quizzes, every single page of the exam, the whole exam, and the final grade so you can't really complain. Read, study, and practice the problem sets and you will be fine. DO NOT SLACK OFF!
Her lectures are ridiculously confusing. It consists of her simply standing there for 50 minutes and deriving equations, which only serves to confuse students even more. The worst professor I've taken at UIC. She also gives insane amounts of homework, and her test averages are extremely low. Avoid at all costs.
The material is a little difficult to get. I did not purchase the book and I'm still passing. She does expect you to put in effort; if you contact her for help she will make time to help you grasp as much as you can. Truly not as bad as her score on here. 100x Better than the other professors for this course. She's really sweet and adorable.
Her exams are tough but they are curved and so are her quizzes! It depends on the class average though. Watch a lot of YT videos, go to discussion sessions or TA office hours!!!!!!!!!!!
Exam questions are nothing like the material she covers in class.
She constantly makes mistakes during lecturers. She is not very useful in lectures but is very helpful in office hours. DO THE SAPLING to study for quizzes and tests. The textbook is pretty good so let that carry you. The tests are quite hard and most of the class doesn't finish. Stay on top of homework and labs, use the textbook, and you can pass.
She's definitely knowledgeable. However, this class is very hard and she made it difficult by not being able to convey the concepts to the students. Her exams are similar to her homework; her lectures don't really correlate with the homework. She makes many mistakes in class, so it's difficult follow. Awesome person, but should've been a scientist.
worst professor ever. showed up 50 minutes late to THE FINAL and still made us take it. treats class as if it's a 400-level class. over complicates all concepts. 2 labs per week on top of online hw, written hw, and quizzes. grading scale is never clear. PLEASE AVOID!!!
More work for this class than any chem class. Lab section was so full it took 35 min to even mass something out. Going to lecture is absolutely useless. I went for quizzes and used only my gen chem knowledge to get through the class. I have no respect for a her. She showed up to the final over an hour late. I was 0.07% off an A, did not round me.
Not good at teaching material during lectures but a bit more helpful during office hours. Homework is due Monday morning at 10 while every other gen chem 2 professor is 10pm so you cannot get help from MSLC with almost double the amount of homework. She does not record lectures or have slides and makes many mistakes during class.
Tries explaining concepts but ends up confusing students more. Jumps around to different ideas during lecture so is extremely difficult to follow along. Exams are really challenging so that the class average was a 40. Points out what is on the projector slide, but does not explain it. So point is: if possible do not take any of her courses!!!
Hammerich is definitely a professor who means well, but I would avoid her classes. Her lectures are very content-heavy, however, she does not use powerpoints. So, if you miss a class, you will be behind in the course material. Finally, her exams are difficult since they are more conceptually based, rather than the questions she goes over in class.
I took this professor as she was the only one available for Analytical Chemistry. She has yet to teach me anything, as most of the "learning" I did came from reading the book and completing Sapling assignments. She's a good person but NOT a good instructor. She doesn't know how to teach and therefore most students don't attend lecture.
The absolute worst prof I've ever come across. I don't need to go into detail there's plenty of reviews for that. All I'll say is save yourself before it's too late and rip if you're stuck with her
Lectures are extremely bland, and barely resemble the quizzes and exams. Homework tends to be extremely quantitative, quizzes conceptual, and tests are a mix of both. She can come off as rude sometimes. Your best bet is cramming slides before quizzes, and cramming homework before exams. The final was so left field and super conceptual.
Tough 3 credit class requiring a lot of self-study. She doesn't hand people the A easily, so make sure you understand the equations and concepts behind the things you learn. In terms of difficulty, quizzes are harder than homework, which are harder than exams. Exams are basically the bread and butter of your grade, so master the homework.
Quite an intense course, feels like two classes at once (the lab and the lecture). Study her slides, get as much practice problems as possible, and hope for the best for the exam. Quite brutal especially being a freshman
This class is a good example of a entry level course taught by research faculty. Explanation of the basics of chem are lacking, and higher level material is interspersed but not explicitly taught (which makes it confusing for people who have not taken chem before) that said, if you have not taken highschool chemistry do not take this course.
The lab reports can be very time-consuming and confusing, so make sure to prioritize them. The class is hard, but the professor actually wants you to do well, and she will help you out if you reach out and show that you're working hard
The curve is the only thing that will save your grade. I would not recommend taking this class she doesn't know how to teach and the TAs will probably be better instructors than her. She's really nice during office hours though so I would recommend setting it up at least once. The lab is the only part of this course that is mandatory to show up for
Dr. Hammerich is not as bad as people make her seem. Yes, the class is a lot of work, but it's five credit hours so that should be expected. If she sees you working hard, you will be rewarded in the end. Her lectures aren't great but she's very approachable during office hours. Her quizzes and exams are tough, too, but she curves very generously.
i would give her a 0 but it wouldn't let me. terrible. not only as a professor but as a person. spends more time complaining than teaching and talks down to her students. she needs to retire already.
I learned a lot. I only wish she was more approachable.
people dislike her but I recommend her cause she has a lot of knowledge. She has her ups/downs but she will give the resources you need. This class is difficult to most students because they don't put in effort. if you put in your 50 percent you'll end up with the desired grade cause Dr Hammerich does her part. Not bad, don't be too afraid of her.
She passed away this june. Was a nice professor
