Dr. Haynes is by far one of my favorite teachers at UGA. Even though the class is taught in a giant lecture hall, she really does care about each and every one of her students. There are three tests so study at least two days before and you shouldn't have a problem making an easy A in the class. Go to class, test questions are from lecture.
Dr. Haynes is absolutely amazing! She realizes that most students take her class only because it's mandatory, but she does her best to make the subject matter interesting. She often makes jokes about the material and even dances and sings at times. Read the book, do the study guides and pay attention in class and you'll def. be able to make an A!
Very cool class. Four tests, quizzes, one major textbook with other stuff to read on line. Two projects - case study in political propaganda and one where we have to create our own propaganda in political ad form. She manages the class well. Never seems to be a burden but there is work. But it is enjoyable so it doesn't seem hard.
I absolutely ADORE Dr. Haynes.. already trying to take another class with her. She is such a fair grader, gives you about a billion opportunities to get a better grade (test corrections etc), and really cares about her students. I can genuinely say her class is one of my favorite classes I have ever taken at UGA.
Dr. Haynes is hands down one of the best professors I have had at UGA. You have to put in the work to get an A, as there are lots of pop quizzes, but it is completely doable if you do the reading and come to class. Material is interesting though and Dr. Haynes presents it in an entertaining way. Take a class with Dr. Haynes if you get the chance!
Dr. Haynes is a fun and very intelligent professor. She really enjoys teaching political science and it was an honor to be a part of her inaugural Propaganda in Politics class. Take Dr. Haynes if you can while at UGA!
Dr. Haynes is the best! She really tries to get to know her students so make time to go to her office hours. The material requires a lot of reading so make sure you read over your notes and study them!
My favorite undergraduate professor at UGA. If you have the chance, take class with her! Dr. Haynes is overall a wonderful lady and professor. She is funny and engaging, and you can tell that she really cares about her students (and that is hard to find at a large university). Thoroughly enjoyed her class and wish I could have taken more with her!
Dr. Haynes was an awesome! She is so passionate about what she teaches and cares about each individual student. Her lectures are clear and she always hints about what will be on the test. Go to class! Read the textbook. She gets questions straight from it. Tests are easy if you read. If not, they can be a little challenging. Overall, a great class!
Great teacher. Really tries to help her students and is there for you. Posts her powerpoints and lots of extra material online, so if you keep up with the work it is very achievable to get an "A".
For this class two days a week was in lecture then one day a week we had a smaller breakout with a TA. The tests are difficult. She gives a lot of extra material outside of class to help study with. If you are lazy this isn't for you but if you like practice tests and videos then this class is great. Attendance was only mandatory for breakouts.
Learned a lot, but had to work. Has a final that is cumulative. But I know a lot more than I did when I walked in. She was nice, but had expectations of us for behavior and effort. Take it if you really want to learn something.
Dr. Haynes is a really great professor! She is very funny and kind, she really does her best to make lecture interesting and she really cares about each and every one of her students. However, she does really make you work for a good grade. Also a lot of the material on the exams does not come from lecture, which means a lot of out of class work.
Dr. Haynes is the best professor I've had so far at UGA! She posts several helpful materials online, such as videos, lectures, and flashcards. She responds to questions and concerns quickly and really wants you to succeed. The tests are tough, so you definitely need to read the textbook. Take her!!!
I took the POLS1101 class and absolutely loved professor haynes. she is so passionate about what she teaches and has a good heart for her students. she even wanted to meet up with us outside of class. this is one of those professors that you wish all other professors would learn from. she is knowledgeable, personable, and overall amazing!
I took the POLS1101 class and absolutely loved professor haynes. she is so passionate about what she teaches and has a good heart for her students. I was scared about taking an online history class but it was the BEST decision ever. She makes it tech-easy and she is knowlegeable and awesome with how she teaches. LOVED HER. recommend online class
I took the online version of pols1101, which is required. Dr. Haynes made the course very organized, intuitive (I could find everything I needed), and fun at times. We read, viewed, wrote, took short quizzes, online quizzes, online exams. They were open book but timed so you had to study before but she makes you do study guides which she grades.
Dr. Haynes is very willing to help her students and wants to get to know them personally! She answers emails very quickly and will always clarify if you have questions. The class consists of lecture videos, reading a chapter, completing a study guide, taking a practice quiz, and taking the test & essay. It's very doable if you keep up!
I had a rough summer with my work schedule. At first I was worried, but Dr. Haynes worked with me and I was able to complete the course and I feel I learned a good deal even with tho I was under a time crunch. You must read, but the lectures are very supportive of the content and interesting. She is funny. I really liked having lots of quizzes.
She's a great teacher and guides you through the course. You have to do the reading and put in the time to learn the material her way just like any other class. It isn't an easy A class, but none of them are. I would recommend taking this class with her. My chances of succeeding in this class increased because of her.
Dr. Haynes knows how to keep your attention & enjoy class. The first day she literally made me cry... from laughing so hard. If she likes you she will tag you on tweets about Adele, because who doesn't love Adele? Her one major flaw is making tests the day after presidential debates she knows we will be watching & live tweeting, so rude.
She keeps talking about Bobby Jindal. I think she might have a schoolyard crush on him. You know, where you say mean things but it's because deep down you really like him.
A saint of woman and a wonderful professor. Inspirational like Pope Francis, yet concerned and caring like your Aunt. A great sense of humor and interesting lectures. Really appreciative of gifts, but dont give them hoping for a better grade (shes a blind grader). Also, she very happy to talk to you in office hours, even when she is SUPER busy.
Dr. Haynes has been one of my favorite professors at UGA. She is engaging and presents her students with material that is challenging and interesting. She makes her students (without any weapons I promise) want to learn the material and succeed. This class is not an easy A, but it has been one of my favorite classes.
Shes aiiiiight, I guess...
There are two things that would without a doubt ruin America: Trump becomes president or Dr. Haynes stops teaching. She injects experience and a genuine care for her students into her teaching. I wish I took her courses earlier!
First semester of college, and I can already tell you Dr. Haynes will forever be a favorite professor of mine. Take her online course. She is SO explanatory, from helpful videos talking you through each concept, to informative study guides, to practice quizzes before the test. I'm truly taking away knowledge from this course. Thanks Dr. Haynes!
Best teacher I've had at UGA so far, and it was for an online class! Super easy, very clear on deadlines/criteria. She is really helpful and makes an effort to try to get to know her online students, which is really cool. Easy tests and assignments because they're all open book/note. TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. Best decision so far.
Online class, lots of work but if you are good about getting your work done you will get an A in the class.
Dr. Haynes is extremely supportive of her students. This is especially important when taking an online class and she is quick to respond to emails! The class has about a module per week which includes a study guide (4-5 hours of work) and then graded practice test and actual test. Always open notes and book for assignments! Best decision online!
Best professor Ive had here at UGA. I took the online class. If you do the work, you will get an A. Tests are open note. She always responds to emails and is there if you need anything.
This professor took my procrastinating-slacker ass and encouraged me despite my best attempts. She's the sort of person you can come to with any problem and expect genuine interest and helpfulness in response. The class itself is somewhat difficult due to specific tests and group project but Haynes will ensure you are more than prepared.
Haynes has been my favorite professor I've had at UGA. She genuinely cares for her students and inspires her students to be politically involved citizens. I sensed a liberal vibe from her but her teaching is very unbiased. It's easy to get an A but you have to earn it. Take her you wont regret it. This University needs more Dr. Haynes
Dr. Haynes is the most hilarious professor I've ever had. Her tests are easy, her lectures are interesting, and she makes every class her own. She wants you to do well in her class and gives you plenty of chances to make up lost points. I would honestly take every class with her if I could. Definitely take this class if you have the opportunity!
Dr. Haynes is by far my favorite professor that I've had. She is so clear with her expectations and her genuine desire for her students to succeed not only in her class, but in life. You have to do work but she just wants you to learn, she isn't trying to kill your grade just to be mean. Incredibly knowledgeable. She's now a mentor of mine.
Very organized class. Reading, tests, pop quizzes (often for attendance), discussions (online and in class focused on a number of documentaries), group research projects, peer evaluation. We did it all. Lectures were always interesting and she was open to questions and spontaneous discussion. She interacted well with students and class was fun.
Dr. Haynes is a wonderful and interactive person who is always on top of her game. Her TA's are amazing as well. They give extensive feedback on essays and tests. Excellent class, would take again.
Dr. Haynes was a great professor. I took the online class and I loved it. She is very clear about her expectations and does notround up grades, butshe and her TA's are extremely helpful, quick to reply, and willing to help you out if you need it!
If you come to class and study the notes you take, you'll get an A
She actually cares about her students.
Dr. Haynes is both a great professor and a mentor. She genuinely cares about her students and makes sure to keep them engaged. I had her for FYOS, so I don't know how she is in her upper-level classes, but she gives good feedback, grades well, and is very clear about what she expects/looks for. Would take (and plan to take) again.
Not as easy as these reviews make it sound. She moves very fast and if you don't understand, you're gonna be lost. She gives out answers in classes if you go. But this class is not a breeze. Ended up dropping because it was too much work for my semester at the time
Dr. Haynes is really a great professor. She definitely wants her students to succeed and makes sure we have all the resources we need to do so. She will go out of her way to make sure you understand a topic, and her lectures are never boring.
In the propaganda class, we did everything including writing a textbook. It was always interesting and there is a lot of hands on work including making our own political ad with the emphasis on propaganda technique. You must study, but the class is really interesting and pretty fun at times. Dr. Haynes is very sincere in her approach.
Absolutely awesome professor. Keeps her students engaged, and gets to know each of us by name. Be prepared to read otherwise you won't pass this course, but the reading is interesting so its not terrible. Group projects are a big part of this course, so if you want to avoid that, do not take this class.
Professor Haynes was the best professor I've had here so far. She doesn't just want you to pass her tests, she wants you to learn the material and really apply it. She's even inspired me to minor in Political Science. You will have to read the book, but the info is relevant so it isn't terrible. Online quizzes every week can be a grade booster too.
She always made sure people understood and it shows that she truly cares about her students. Her lectures are never boring and she's hilarious! Best professor I've had so far.
She was really friendly and quick to respond to e-mails which was very helpful. Coming to class isn't mandatory as long as you utilize her online lectures and the textbook occasionally. If she likes your class, chances are the final isn't mandatory either!
Dr. Haynes is one of the best Professor I have had so far at UGA! Her lectures are interesting and clear. You have to read the book. If you don't, you might not understand her quizzes or tests. Her tests are little tough but fair. She is there for the students, so don't be afraid to ask questions! Plus, she gives extra credit!
Dr. Haynes's class can be summed up by saying that she is an amazing teacher, and loves her job. The tests can be tricky, and if you do not read the book, you will struggle. If you do not mind reading a few book chapters in detail, and want a 5 star professor, take Dr. Haynes.
Dr. Haynes is one of the best teachers I've had at UGA. She really cares about her students, and it is very apparent by everything that she does for you. She responds to personal emails within minutes if not seconds. She has about 30 different ways for you to comprehend the material, and she makes the class interesting. TAKE HER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!
Great professor!
Best professor that I have had so far! Totally organized, good communicator, tries to connect to students and make the content interesting. If you are willing to kearn, you will. I was inspired to add a major. Make sure you read though!!
Rock in' class. Made this election year more interesting to me.
Dr. Haynes really cares about her students and their success in her class. She is passionate and well educated in the content she teaches. While lecture attendance is not mandatory, students should attend because often she may give test hints to those who attend. Read the book because some test questions come from the book rather than the lecture.
My favorite teacher so far, even though the class was online. She is super nice and encouraging, and made an effort to get to know her students even if the chances of her actually meeting them in person were slim. The class is pretty easy if you do the reading! It moves at a good pace for an online class. TAKE IT! (no breakout sessions)
1101e was a demanding online course, but very doable. I was surprised by how much I actually learned. I loved, loved, loved our final project. Spoken Word Political Slam. It made me think, think, think about what we had been learning and then express it. I messed up by not doing some assignments, but I still did okay. Overall, good class.
Spectacular memes!!! :D Dr. Haynes is the best professor I've had and is willing to work with you if you need additional time (that is as long as you still do the work and to the best of your abilities. Her lectures are videos that include her talking AND the powerpoint. It's a lot of work and you move quickly, but her class is worth it.
At first, I was afraid to take this online, but it turned out to be one the best courses I took! Dr. Haynes truly cares about her students and is very easy to talk to. The material is surprisingly interesting and very relevant to everyone. Lots of reading, but you will be motivated to learn in this course. Study hard and you will do fine.
If you've read these reviews, you know she's obviously talented and she cares about her students. She is one of those people you meet and think of well after your time with her. She quickly became my biggest idol in every way. If you have the chance to take any of her classes and have her touch your life, do it.
Dr. Haynes is very approachable/understanding if you ever need to speak with her. The textbook is very dense so ATTEND LECTURE because her powerpoints break up a lot of the info you need to know. Tests are not easy but quite fair if you go over the readings/activities she assigns. Breakouts are pointless but mandatory. Overall a good experience :)
This class is very dense and there is a lot of assignments to complete. Each week expect, around three quizzes, essays, and a test. You gotta read the book, the power point slides, watch the videos and on top of that discuss on the topics assigned, not just any discussion but essay-like. I feel I am on a Ph.D class for political science.
Amazing teacher and you probably won't meet another professor like her in your life unless you are very lucky. I took her online class and got the opportunity to meet her in person later on. Not only is she very caring but she is also dedicated to creating successful students in and out of the classroom.
If you take her online then good news: everything is open book/note! Yes, some of the questions can be difficult, but if you read the chapter and did the study guide you're pretty much set. The only videos you are REQUIRED to watch are a few that you have quizzes on. Lectures are optional, or if you just want to skim the slides she has that too.
I find the class to be very organized, well-paced, and while there is a lot to do for each module, the tests are open-book and open note, the videos are short and helpful, and to be honest, with so many resources, the material is easy to understand. I did not understand gerrymandering until I watched a funny video about it and played a game.
As the 5 option rating states, Dr. Haynes is a real gem. I consider her a UGA treasure for sure! I feel I learned more in her class than in all of the other politics classes I have ever taken combined. Dr. Haynes is brilliant. She cares so much about her students and she is so friggin knowledgable. Wish I could have more room to write more.
I did not know a lot about politics before this class and didn't really care, but I think it is important and I am paying more attention to the election now. She answers emails very fast!
if you just skim reading, watch her online lectures you can get an A in the class. A lot of questions are on quizlet. Very nice teacher and helpful, wants her students to do well.
I loved Dr. Haynes. She was always in a good mood, she was funny, inspiring and everyone loves her. If you have the opportunity to take this class, take it with her!!
Dr. Haynes is the bomb!!!! She was great to work with when I had a few questions outside of class & I felt respected as a student. Her lectures are entertaining & relevant. Lots of small online quizzes contribute to your grade so it's easy to build a buffer for tests! She made our final optional & got a standing ovation. TAs (Justin) were great!!
Dr. Haynes has the course set up in a very organized way. It is interesting, but it is a lot of work. But the work is manageable although sometimes you really have to read hard and think hard to do well. I liked the extra credit activities outside of class and the optional games. The concept videos were good, too. Plus, she knew her stuff.
Doctor Haynes is an amazing professor! I took her online class and although it was a lot of work, it was super straight forward and easy. She cares about her students and truly wants to see them succeed!
This class is not for lazy people. But the good news is that if you do the work you not only learn a lot but you have a billion opportunities to earn a grade. The essays and discussions are not easy, but there is a lot of support, prompts, and access to the teacher and TAs. It is like a good workout. You sweat a lot but it feels good after.
There's a lot of work but you have a lot of time to complete everything. I didn't buy the textbook but there is a free version online that I barely used too lmao. Haynes is a great professor and is WOKE. Take her!! The workload is worth it bc you learn.
Dr. Haynes was an amazing professor. She made me feel very welcomed as a freshman at UGA and I grew close with her very fast. Her FYO was very interesting and applicable because of the election this year. I look forward to taking more of her courses in the future.
Wonderful
I enjoyed taking Dr. Haynes's class online! Her assignments require a lot of critical thinking, and if you're ever stuck or need feedback on an assignment, she's more than happy to help you. Her assignments aren't hard, but make sure not to fall behind! Also, she offers a good amount of extra credit if you ever need a little boost!
Dr. Haynes is one of the best teachers i have ever had. She wants her students to do really well and is always there to help them and teach them. I wish i could have more classes with her, highly highly recommend.
She's awesome!
She is so cool! A true rockstar!
This was an Applied Politics course. It was new and part of a Certificate program for public affairs professionals. I learned a great deal from people working in the fields. We also had opportunities to eat lunch with them. The focus was on careers in public affairs and the skills we needed to develop to succeed in those careers.
Dr. Haynes is an amazing professor! Her lectures are fun and never boring. Tests and quizzes are pretty easy if you come to class and take good note. Even if you can't, she posts her lectures online along with study guides for each chapter. Plus, she gives opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester that really come in handy.
Dr. Haynes is the greatest. I adore her so much. Go to class for notes and bonus points. Gives a lot of extra credit.
Dr. Haynes was one of the best professors I have had at UGA. She honestly cares about her students, and is always willing to help you out. Attendance is not mandatory, but she gives TONS of extra credit that you will only hear about in class. Lots of grade opportunities and tests are very fair, and she gives study guides!
It was a lot of work but doable and she made it interesting. Nice person. I learned more than I thought I would and I do not like politics at all.
The BEST professor at UGA and I am a computer science major, not poly sci. She is so caring and enthusiastic about what she does. GO TO CLASS. She gives extra credit at least once a week for just going to class. Her tests are VERY easy if you take the time to do the study guide, and review the powerpoints, and online quizzes. GREAT GREAT GREAT lady
Literally one of the best teachers at UGA -- cares a lot about students. Offers a lot of in class bonus points. Sweetest/funniest lady ever.
I finished the online class a little early, but literally just email her. She is so helpful. There was a lot of reading since summer courses are over two months instead of a semester, but she is so kind and understands that college is hard. LOVE her.
Dr. Haynes made this class so much fun. She truly cares about her students and her class is easy, but interesting. She cancelled the final, she's truly the best!!
She really knows the material she teaches and she makes commentaries on the current political climate that really hell you understand the material. Her tests were reasonable and the material wasn't difficult to comprehend. I took this course in a month but I wish I could've taken in during the year for longer.
I loved Dr. Haynes! She makes the lectures fun and makes the material easy to understand. One of the best professors I have ever had!
Dr. Haynes is an awesome professor. She truly cares about her students and if they succeed. She's somebody that sets high standards, but gives plenty of opportunities to be successful. Loved the class!
If you are just trying to get an easy A, definitely don't take her because she makes this class more work than it needs to be. HOWEVER, she is wonderful. She really cares about the students and wants everyone to succeed. She gives lots of bonus points and then to our surprise made the final optional!
Dr. Haynes is one of my favorite professors I've had at UGA. She is so caring and incredibly willing to help you succeed. Her class is structured in a way that makes it almost impossible to get anything lower than at least a B, IF you do the work. She even offered to meet with us outside of class to just chat over coffee. She was amazing!
Dr. Haynes is a very good professor! You can tell she knows what she is talking about in her lectures, and is very caring towards her students. Her tests are based on the book, not the lectures, and are multiple choice. She is very personable, easy to talk to, and is a very funny person. I would definitely take her class again, just for her.
This class was made for my procrastinating self. I can't be lazy. We are tested every single week. Two practices quizzes, one module test, sometimes video or concept quizzes, a bunch of reading quizzes. I am actually learning a lot because I have to, lol. Can't avoid your work or she sends you a nice email. Can't hide.
Dr. Haynes is HILARIOUS. She loves what she does and clearly cares about her students. If you have the chance to take her class, do it!!
Dr. Haynes is hands down one of the best professors at UGA. If I had the chance I would take every class she offered. She is one of the most caring and involved professors I have ever had and I highly recommend taking any of her classes. Attendance is required but you will want to be there.
As a Political Science major, she is one of the most respected professors at UGA. She always goes above and beyond the norm to help her students. Honestly, the greatest/knowledgable professor I have ever met. She is a truly a gem.
first online class i took and it wasn't too bad. really lenient
People on here complain about it being a lot of work but it really isn't. There's a practice quiz and test every week but they're veryyyy easy. I'm really glad I took pols online
I found Dr. Haynes to be irritating. For an online class, she sent way too many emails. The due dates were never set in stone; they fluctuated so that you actually had LESS time than you had planned out. I do like that she takes feedback from surveys, but my grades were always late (more the fault of the TA)
Best teacher I have had. Not irritating at all. Professional, funny, supportive, and answered my questions promptly.
Amazing professor! She is extremely caring and understanding. She totally gets that things come up and students have a life outside of school. She is willing to work with you as much as possible. The structure of the class was great and easy to follow. I would definitely recommend her to anyone! Favorite class this semester.
Honestly this class wasn't that bad. You could literally do a weeks worth of work in two to four hours if you were diligent enough. Overall the teacher's lectures are clear and the TA's are timely with their grades for the most part. In the end as long as you be proactive you should be fine.
Take her!!! She's extremely nice and wants everyone to pass. Material is easy but interesting.
She was so great at always explaining and answering our questions. Even though it was an online class, it felt as if we were sitting in class. Pretty lenient as long as you got your work done and is very understanding of needs. She is the best professor I have had in my first year and I am very thankful.
Very organized and many assessments. Interesting material. Dr. Haynes was informative and supportive. I would recommend.
easiest class i've ever taken. TAKE THIS CLASS INSTEAD OF THE LIVE VERSION. She's very accessible even though its an online class. She replies to emails even at like 2 am.
Absolutely great professor! She is super informative and organized. Very easy to get in contact with and the course was relatively easy.
Dr. Haynes truly cares about her students and makes herself easily accessible. She communicates thoroughly and honestly wants her class to be a positive, useful, educational experience. She wants you to get the most out of her class and goes out of her way to make that happen. She respects her students and their feedback, but don't push it.
This was a great class. Haynes sets up the class so you think more about the world and creates a safe space for her students. She sends a lot of emails which are very informative. If you read the textbook you should be fine on the tests. There are a lot of grades so if you don't like tests, quizzes, or a final project then I don't recommend.
Dr. Haynes is a fantastic professor. She's in charge of the SPIA side of the Public Affairs Professional Certificate program and has done a fantastic job with it. She brought in a ton of guest speakers and had us complete interesting projects while also helping us develop practical political skills.
I have never taken a class like Applied Politics before. It was so "real" and incredibly interesting. I can tell that Dr. Haynes puts so much effort into building this course and picking the speakers and projects. It has prepared me for a political career because now I know there are political careers. LOL.
An absolutely wonderful professor who made my FYOS enjoyable. If you're an incoming freshman reading this, take her course! As a polisci major, I never failed to be interested in our discussions, and I mostly found myself wishing I had more days during the week with this course. You won't find anyone else on campus who cares more for students.
I enjoyed this class but it was failed to be mentioned on here that there a lot of test for her online class, not sure if this is normal. nearly a test every week was a little much for me. Also she made fake quizlets that I used to study which hurt me. Overall great professor though.
Dr. Haynes is the best professor you will have at UGA. Engaging, caring, and extremely competent at her job. Took her FYOS class but I'm sure her other classes are just as good.
Dr. Haynes is easily one of the professors I've had at UGA. She really cares for her students, is always willing to help outside of class, and gives great feedback. I took the online version of POLS and it was extremely easy and very manageable.
If I had to pick one class in the entirety of my program here hat benefited me most, it would be this course. This program gives you the unique opportunity to learn about careers that exist within public affairs The course is a mixture of lectures and guest practitioners, that will provide you with insight about your field. 10/10 AWESOME CLASS
Dr. Haynes is very organized and very energetic. She tries very hard to make class interesting every day. I like how she gets us involved in group activities, interactive activities and generally teaches class as though she is having a conversation with us individually. It is a good deal of work but she gives support.
One of the best classes and teachers Ive had at UGA. She really cares for her students and its obvious almost immediately. There are three tests and a big paper. There are also multiple quizzes based off the chapters in the textbook. Theyre pretty easy as long as youve read. She makes class super interesting. Definitely take the class.
POLS 1101E was really easy. We had 8 modules over two months. Most modules were just a practice test, a test, and maybe a few quizzes. We had two discussions and a two page paper as well. Definitely recommend taking the online course as opposed to the in-person class. We did not have a final. Easy A and she'll work with you if you have any issues.
Just finished my assignment for 1101E and it was about how the parties change due to the leadership of a president. It was very interesting. I did not know a lot about politics. Now I feel like I know more. A lot of work but paced over the weeks. I actually learned a lot about my own state, too. I appreciated the responses to my emails & my TA.
Dr. Haynes is an amazing professor! She really cares about each individual student and is very open to giving additional help if needed. You do have to work hard and do the reading, but she presents the material in a way that is very easy to understand and engaging.
Dr. Haynes is awesome. She really wants you to succeed in the course and pushes for you to learn as much as possible! She gives out a lot of assignments but they help you with your final grade in the end. You can tell that she loves her job even though the class was online. I would definitely take her class again!
Dr Haynes has earned mine and my peers respect with her constant enthusiasm towards Political Science. She makes the material easier to understand, and is always offering her students extra help to ensure the best learning possible. She makes learning the material fun even when it is difficult. I would recommend everyone to take her if they can!
she really cares about the students and is very helpful if you need her. Easy to understand and easy to get along with!!
Class is very easy to follow especially since she does both online and in-class learning styles. She provides you with so many resources to help you take notes, study, and get an A. So many extra-credit opportunities you'll feel very eased. A very amazing teacher who loves what she's teaching and is like the class mom. Would definitely take again.
I took this class online and really enjoyed it. Professor Hayes gives you so many resources to learn the content and it makes it so much easier to do well. She is very encouraging and makes you feel less stressed as everything is well mapped out with the modules and practice tests.
As someone who struggles with POLS this class made it simple to grasp the common concepts. Taking a course online along with working two summer jobs, I really felt like this class was manageable. I entered the course without ANY knowledge of our government and political system, I can say I ended it feeling confident about it. I highly recommend.
AMAZING! If you're a POLS major and haven't taken a class with Dr. Haynes, you're missing out! The reviews aren't wrong - she cares so much about all her students and is super interesting and easy to talk to! There's no way to do bad in this class if you just talk to her, she's so sweet and understanding and the topic is super relevant and fun!
Never in my life have I met a more kind or wonderful human being. She really cares so much about her students. The class isn't hard at all, but you do learn a lot. Don't let yourself graduate without taking a class with her!!!!
Dr. Haynes is by far the best professor I have had at UGA and in the POLS department. She is passionate and knowledgeable, and her lectures are hilarious. If you have the opportunity to take any of her classes or join the Applied Politics program, do it. She should be the face of UGA.
This class was great as long as you keep up on the homework. I saw reviews that its a lot of work, but its really not. Just keep up and youll be fine. A lot if the homeworks are optional. Just quizzes, video quizzes, and tests.
One of the best, nicest, most dedicated professors I have ever taken at UGA. Very authentic person. And I learned a great deal without ever feeling stressed. Loved this program and class.
Even though I never even met Dr. Haynes, she was one of the best teachers I have ever had! She really wanted us to succeed and really cared about our education. Truly one of the best teachers at this school. Test were easy and as long as you got your work done you got a good grade.
I love Dr. Haynes! She is an incredible professor who really cares about her students! She is a fair grader and gives good feedback. I would highly recommend her!
Dr. Haynes is one of the best professors I've had at UGA. She cares so much about her students and the course material, and meets you wherever you're at. She's a fair grader and loves to hear your opinion about politics. She's prompt at replying to emails and respects you as a student. I really don't have enough good things to say about her.
Dr. Haynes is a sweetheart who really tries to get her students engaged in the subject. Shes very flexible and clearly cares about her students. Her eLC page is usually jam-packed and difficult to navigate, so make sure you stay on top of it and keep track of her due dates.
First class I gained a real perspective on what I could do with my degree. Met actual professionals in the area both young and more mature. Learned some actual skills and made many new friends through our projects and taking three classes together. This class is only open to students in the Certificate program. Dr. Haynes worked hard to connect me
This is a class that is good for people who are interested in modern day politics and the media. Ther are tests, quizzes, a research paper, group work, and discussion. Dr. Haynes makes class go by very quickly. Always interesting lecture and we discuss and collaborate a lot. One text but a variety of readings so it is not an expensive course.
I mean, Dr. Haynes is just incredible. She's such a sweet and caring professor and very willing to work with students. The class was pretty interesting, and the assignments weren't difficult. Tests were easy. 11/10 recommend taking a class with her.
Dr. Haynes is not easy. But she is fair. You have to do the work and you have to demonstrate that you know the material, but the class is more like a team effort. You feel a sense of belonging and you have fun. At least I did. Lots of grades. A research paper that she gives you feedback on at every step. I had never written one. Good class.
I love, love, love Dr. Haynes. I can't speak highly enough of her. If you are a POLS major, PLEASE take her at least once. She is super caring, gives great feedback, and her lectures are incredible.
She teaches super fair, doesn't just criticize one political ideology. She has in class attendance quizzes and random attendance checks. The quizzes are pretty easy (and she pulled some directly for the final). She is super caring and approachable if you are struggling. Definitely worth taking!
Good class. Covers the media and politics with a lot of depth. Best part was the research paper and the feedback we got throughout the semester. It helped me write a very strong paper. She is very engaging and supportive. I can tell she puts the work into the class and likes students and the subject. Tests were not easy but fair.
Dr. Haynes is awesome. Super understanding and really cares about you as a student. Definitely take this class over the summer if you want to, it's manageable and she's very lenient. The class is very straightforward and you'll never be confused with what you have to do.
Dr. Haynes is the best Professor I have ever had. Shes so understanding, her class is well described (no confusion & if there is she gives extensions). Highly recommend.
Great class. Moves like a real class. Multiple tactics used to make us learn the material. I found it very organized. Questions were challenging at times but you could use all your resources. Teacher is professional and accessible and has a sense of humor.
if you watch her lecture videos, you can pass. you don't even need to read the book except for long answer quizzes (there's only like 2 or 3 the whole semester). she is very flexible with extensions if you really need them. she is very forgiving and understanding if you just email her. 10/10 recommend
Dr. Haynes is a rockstar professor. One of the best I've had at UGA! She works incredibly hard for her students. If you have the chance to take a class with her, go for it! She is a lenient grader, and her lectures are awesome.
Dr. Haynes is an amazing teacher. She lays out her grading criteria so well, and she is always giving you tips to improve. You have an exam and quiz every week, and they are very easy to complete. No final exam for my class, but a final project which wasn't hard at all. Easy A for sure. Highly recommend!
Professor Haynes was an amazing teacher, even though I never interacted with her in real life. She is a very fair grader, the class just needs a lot of effort. It's obvious that she cares a lot about her class as she takes the time to make her own online lectures. Take this class if you're willing to put in the effort; if you are, you won't regret
Haynes is one of the nicest people I've ever encountered with and I've never met her. I took her online POLS class and she lays out the grading criteria very well and is a very lenient grader. Quiz/Exam every week (due Wed/Fri nights) but they're so easy. One long paper (not hard) due for the final but you have the entire semester to do it!
Literally the Goat. I took an intro POLS class over the summer of 2018 and she was the nicest professor I've had at UGA.
Great class. Great program. 10/10 Make sure to take the course when you have a free lunch so you can have lunch meetings with all the political professionals she brings to class. I loved this part the best. And the projects.
Prof. Haynes is wonderful. Her class provides an honest look into the political world. She invites politicians and practitioners from every sector to share their experience and give advice to students. Taking this class gave me the opportunity to network and build my portfolio. Definitely worth your time.
Dr. Haynes was one of the best professors that I have had at UGA so far. She actual cares for her students and genuinely wants them to do their best in the classroom and outside of it. 10/10 recommend!
This class started as a f2f class but became an online one during the shelter in place period. It was great in person, but she did a good job making it organized, understandable, sometimes funny, and effective in the transition. Very grateful to have such a supportive teacher.
I really enjoyed this class! Dr. Haynes definitely makes you work, but the content is interesting and she is very understanding. If you apply yourself, you can definitely do really well in this class! There are attendance quizzes, but class is enjoyable. Other grades included discussions, tests, and research paper.
Dr. Haynes is amazing! She is loving and wants to see you succeed. Her lectures are god and engaging. She makes it a point to connect with her individual students. The back half of this course was online due to the pandemic, but whether in class or online, she does a great job! Easy A but you still learn.
Repeatedly told us how well organized and amazing her class was, but when I tried to navigate her course it was very confusing. I had my friend try to help me organize it since I was overwhelmed, but even they said it was confusing and poorly structured. If you have any difficulty focusing/ ADHD, I do not recommend this course.
I took this class last fall but had to go home for an emergency in october & Dr. Haynes suggested an incomplete so I could finish later. She kept in touch and helped me work through the material even while I was in another state. The class was interesting, organized and doable. You do learn a lot and I feel better prepared to vote. Get the book.
I could not have asked for a more caring, more knowledgable, and more generous professor during this pandemic. Dr. Haynes provided checklists, study guides, extra study materials, and optional Zoom sessions. This online course was very organized. Just make sure you read and ask questions when you need help because she desires to help her students.
Dr. Haynes made this class exceptionally interesting and fun! She is super accessible and respected in her department! While it is a standard course and is heavy in reading and lectures I undoubtedly would take the class again.
Dr. Haynes is amazing! She truly cares about her students and will do everything possible to help you succeed. I took three of her classes during my time at UGA and wish I could take more. She challenges you academically but definitely doesn't want to see you fail. Would highly recommend taking Dr. Haynes and getting to know her outside of class.
Dr. Haynes is an amazing professor, I would take her class again if I could. There is a practice test and test every week but they're open book and if you use the textbook you can find all the answers. There is a lot of work but it's very doable and she keeps everything very organized. Easy A!!
This class was fully online, asynchronous. Dr. Haynes set very clear due dates and had an amazing setup on eLC. To do well in this class you had to actually read the textbook, but her assignments lined up directly with what we read. Despite having never seen her in person, she was very accessible and replied to emails within minutes.
This class was pleasurable, even for someone who does not really enjoy this topic. She was very understanding during the pandemic, which is much appreciated. I would suggest working ahead and you'll be completely fine!
Dr. Haynes rocks! The class may seem daunting (online) at the beginning. However, it is very easy to get into a groove, and due dates remain consistent from week to week. She offers plenty of extra credit, and her TAs and her grade quickly.
This online class was great. Very organized and a lot of communication from the professor and TAs. The class can be done at ones own pace, but I recommend reading a chapter and taking the test for the chapter each week to prevent having a lot to do at the end of the semester. The class is pretty easy as long as you read your chapters and take notes
Dr. Haynes is an amazing professor and this was such an interesting course. Super flexible about deadlines and tests were open for an entire week, open note and book. Only homework was study guides (which helped for tests) and she gave us all of the required reading. She really cares about her students succeeding I can't recommend her enough!!!!
Dr. Haynes is such a caring and considerate professor, especially during COVID times. The content of the class is engaging and she really values feedback and discussion from students. Her tests aren't difficult if you pay attention in class, and she always throws in a question w/ no one "right" answer that makes you think.
I just want to start by saying that this woman is the best professor that I have ever had. She had a different approach to test taking. She believes that exams are not a reflection of what a student truly knows. She made our exams open note and that was helpful. She is such a kind and funny person and really wants her students to succeed.
Dr. Haynes is probably the best POLS professor right now. She is super caring, hilarious in her lectures, and will do everything she can to help you out if you ask for help. For the propaganda class, you had to read a LOT of material and really work to do well on the tests and paper, but the subject matter is so interesting and she keeps it fun!
Dr. Haynes is great! She genuinely loves teaching and her students. She is so funny, and her lectures are really entertaining! Honestly, you will get an A in this class if you just put a little effort in. It's a lot of busy work, but it's really not bad at all.
Maymester is tough, but this class was doable while interesting. I did all the work, and while there is a good bit, I did not think of it as "busy" work. It helped me focus, forced me to read, made me think, and made me question. But it was fun, and every lecture had a real takeaway for me. Some of it I really was stunned about. Great class.
Great class. Would recommend.
Dr. Haynes was only my 2nd professor and I already know that she stands out against a lot of other professors. Small complaint: she tends to skip over content that's in the tests to tell anecdotes and relate it to current events (still useful), however, reviewing the slideshows and reading the chapters should suffice. Also, I had open note exams
Super engaging professor even though I was so tired in this short session I managed not to fall asleep because she makes her lectures interesting & she is funny. Very supportive, nice, & knows a lot and really easy to get to know and talk to. This was part of a program called Thrive & while it was super fast, I felt like I did learn & it is fair.
Dr. Haynes is the best POLS professor out of all of them. I took her class over the summer and I thought I came out with a good understanding. Plus, she is a lot more culturally aware, especially for a white professor her age, than a lot of other of the POLS professors. Highly recommend!
She is the only political science teacher I've taken and I would take her again. The work is clear and she gives practice and real tests to make sure we get the highest grade possible. I would recommend this for over the summer as it's super easy, but make sure you read the textbook, as most of the questions come directly from there.
For her online class she has modules that are intimidating at first but so easy and straightforward once you get used to them. Shes a great teacher and understands you have other classes too.
Dr. Haynes is great! The online class is set up well and I like that I get to work at my own pace. Everything is open book and nearly all the questions can be found in there. It's a decent amount of work, but it doesn't feel like a heavy load whatsoever. It's a super manageable and flexible course.
Professor Haynes was AMAZING!!! The class was beautifully structured and outlined in a very detailed way so that it was easy to know what you needed to do. Truly cares about making sure that students are learning for a purpose and not just because of the class. Thoroughly enjoyed this course!
Dr. Haynes is a great professor. Although the class is test-heavy, she gives good feedback on exams and papers that will help improve future grades. There is extra credit offered in this class too! Aside from the course, Dr. Haynes cares about her student's well-being and mental health, she even pushed assignments back a week sometimes too!
Dr. Haynes is an amazing Professor, particularly if you're being introduced to Political Science. She makes class engaging and the content (at least for her Political Propaganda course) is a great mix of political history and political psychology. The work is plentiful but worthwhile, and she's liberal with A's if you show an honest effort.
The finals for this class are replaced by an essay that you can start anytime during the semester. However, there is a quiz and test every week, but luckily everything is answered in the textbook. This whole course is open book and very easy as long as you don't put things off to the last minute. It basically felt like I wasn't taking a class.
She's incredible. Everyone should take her class. POLS 5030 was awesome, and the work load was fine.
Propaganda is a great course.
This is an upper level pols course on political propaganda, but we talked about propaganda basics as well. Dr. Haynes uses a lecture, testing, activity, research paper model in her class. The course is interesting, there is plenty of work, but she paces the course, and it is all doable. I really enjoyed our discussions, the videos & the paper.
Dr. Haynes is an angel on earth and if you can take this class there is no doubt that you should. It may seem like a lot of work at the beginning of the semester but she really frontloads it so you have more time to focus on your research paper towards the end. So so so kind and funny. Will also buy you gift cards bc she is perfect.
Professor Haynes was amazing. Such a good professor and a great class. She was very fast at responding to emails and very caring. She was the best.
Dr. Haynes is amazing! She makes an effort to get to know each of her students. She is VERY politically informed and always up to date. The class is easy as long as you attend class and give your best effort on tests and papers. If you want an A, you can definitely get it as long as you're willing to put in the work. All in all an amazing class!
Dr. Haynes is a gem! She's one of the most caring professors and has students' best interests at heart. When it comes to politics - she's very informed, acknowledges differing viewpoints on both sides, & teaches the importance of doing good. She expects her students to show up to class, participate, & work hard. Do those things & you'll do great!
I warn you... do not take this as a summer course. Good God the work is so excessive. If you want any kind of a life (and especially if you're doing an internship) don't do it. The class was incredibly easy but 9 exams (50 questions), 15-20 quizzes, and discussions are just WAY too much for a summer class. Great prof though. She cares about you.
I know the earlier review said this was excessive work, but I finished the course early and had no difficulty. It is a thru session summercourse (2 months) that is open book and does have a good deal of work, but you learn alot, and it is quite doable. There are three deadlines over the summer so you have the flexibility to do the work. 10/10
She seems caring and into what she is teaching. The lectures were those she recorded a few years ago. Easy class if you read the textbook. 25Q Practice quizzes and 50Q exams for every module. You only have 3 due dates, keep up with them.
Professor Haynes is by far the best professor in SPIA. You cannot complete your UGA career without taking her course. This Maymester was highly manageable as she offered support the entire way. Yes, while this course does have some work, she is deeply passionate about the topics. She cares a lot about her students, so she will not let you struggle.
This online class isn't challenging, but it is a LOT of work. There are very clear instructions and opportunities for extra credit and communication, even though it is online, it feels like a lot more work than an in-person class would be. The quizzes are easy, the tests can have hard short/long answer q's, but they never made me fail a test/quiz.
Very flexible online class. You work at your own space within 3 deadlines. Helpful lectures. Good communication from the TAs &the professor. I never felt lost in this class. It is a good bit of work, but it is open book. Tests cover only one chapter so that is why there are so may of them. I liked the paper; helped me follow GA politics.
This course is organized well, and all assignments are clear. The online textbook is provided, and typically all answers come from her pre-recorded lectures or the textbook! Dr. Haynes truly cares about her students and she is willing to assist you with any questions.
Really easy class. Highly recommend
Dr. Haynes sets up this online course in a way that's very easy to follow and makes sure you're getting everything done that you need to. I highly recommend taking this course. It takes a decent amount of time but isn't difficult. Dr. Haynes and the TAs are super responsive and quick with grading assignments. I really enjoyed this course!
I love this woman. This is my second Haynes class, and I would take another if I could. The work isn't bad, deadlines are flexible, and the content is so interesting. This seriously may be my favorite class I've taken at UGA.
this class was super easy as the tests and quizzes are easy and there's not a lot of discussion posts.
Literally an amazing teacher. The TAs and her are amazing and respond in a timely manner. Class is easy but interesting. I would love to take another class with her.
I wouldn't say this class was easy. Id say it was doable. It required work and thought, but if you did the work, you could earn a good grade. It is organized and cut into chunks with deadlines. So I could be flexible but I could not get behind. Content was interesting. The books is a bit boring but the online lectures helped. Extra credit, too.
Dr. Haynes is the best. Take any class of hers that you can. This was my favorite class I've taken thus far and Dr. Haynes made the whole experience incredibly enjoyable. Amazing instructor, amazing class.
Dr. Haynes is one of the best professors I have had at UGA!! My only regret is that I don't get to take more classes with her. She is so knowledgeable about propaganda, but she's also extremely caring about her students and wants to see you do well academically and personally. I will miss her so much next semester! Take a class with her!!!
Dr. Haynes is outstanding. She makes class material fascinating and her lectures are insightful. She is very personable and caring and will do almost anything for her students. Propaganda is a lot of work but manageable. Tests are demanding but open notes. Short (easy) quizzes are de facto attendance grades. Lots of opportunities for extra credit.
Engaging lectures and obvious she truly cares about her students. Along with small assignments, 4 online tests that are lengthy but open-note, and a term paper. Would take again for sure
This is a Maymester course, so though the content is not too hard, it's condensed into a very short period, so it requires constant attention. Even so, Dr. Haynes provided great feedback and was quick with grades and email responses. If you don't have anything going on in May, I would recommend this class. The textbook was provided for free.
I took this class as a Maymester, so it was a little tough to get things done, but it was overall very manageable! She is also super understanding of anything you have going on and gives lots of extra credit. There is a good amount of reading, but the study guides she has you do helps outline everything you need to know.
LOVED LOVED LOVED this course. Interesting material and delivered in a fun way. A good bit of work but doable. Just do not get started late. You need the time from day one. Dr. Haynes opened the course a few days early for us, too.
I took this class with Dr. Haynes over summer, and it was a great course! There's a decent amount of work, but it's very doable if you manage your time well. There are three checkpoints throughout the summer, and you have to finish certain modules by each deadline. She responds to emails quick and is always willing to help. Definitely recommend!!
Dr. Haynes is an amazing professor! Throughout the course of my time at UGA, I have took about 3-4 of her courses and they have all been absolutely exceptional. I would highly recommend taking all of her classes and applying to the Applied Politics program which she facilitates! I learned so much and grew professionally while being in her class!
Dr. Haynes is truly caring! She wants you to learn and makes it easy for you to do so. I enjoyed her class so much!!! This is the professor you want if you truly want to learn more about politics and government. She responds very quickly and was aided by a great set of TAs as well. The best summer course you could take!
there's a good amount of work but all of it is doable and the deadlines give you enough time to complete them. dr. haynes is super nice and passionate about what she teaches.
Had Professor Haynes for a summer 1101 course, she was absolutely amazing! Just pay attention, take some notes and email her if you won't be in class!
Easy and interesting class to learn about politics. There are quite a few assignments and tests but if you keep up with them you should be good. The main resource for this class is the textbook which is included with the class.
This class simply opened my eyes to all the opportunities there are the public affairs arena. It gives you content, skill building exercises, and contact with a great many people who work in the fields of campaigns, communications, lobbying, advocacy, and in government. Amazing content and good lectures from Dr. Haynes.
Good stuff.
Great class. Very test/quiz heavy but they are not difficult at all as long as you watch the lessons and read the sections of the textbook. Very clear schedule provided which was nice.
In terms of difficulty, this class is super clear cut and has ample, organised resources for success on the tests and quizes. If you engage, you will do well especially with the flexibility of the class. As a professor Dr. Haynes is super caring and grades according to effort and engagement which is awesome. The TAs are super responsive too.
such a nice teacher. I was late on turning in exams and assignments and she gave me such grace with that so I could stay in the class and still succeed. gives about a month to do 3/4 modules which include quizzes and tests. there are 2 discussion posts and a final 6 page paper. overall not too hard if you time manage
I love this professor. She responds to my emails and is very kind. She is a good teacher who cares. You should take her no matter what. It is test heavy, but it is all open notes. She is a very generous grader. You will learn a lot.
Dr. Haynes truly cares about every student, and that comes through even in an online class. Her and the TA's grade things in a timely manner, and give feedback as well. Super easy to follow class structure and the work load is very manageable. Online or in person, take Dr. Haynes!
You get the grade you deserve. It's not "easy" since there's 10+ tests and 15+ quizzes, but this class is the simplest A ever. Just read the textbook and use it during the assignments since they're all open note. Lots of extra credit opportunities
This is an easy class to get an A in as long as you're willing to do the work. The reading is time consuming but if you read the textbook the tests and quizzes are easy.
Super easy pols class for an online class. All tests were online. One final paper at the end of the semester. Fair/easy grader.
I feel like it was designed to make me learn, but not make me hate class, particularly as I am a stem major. Organized, funny lectures, clear deadlines, and just very professional TAs and teacher. Answered my emails and graded fast, and kept everyone on task.
I loved Dr. Haynes. She is the best POLS 1101 teacher. Exams are very easy and open note. Grade is just tests and a final paper but as long as you put effort into the paper you will do well. She wants everyone to do well and learn something.
Valuable course and certificate program.
Dr. Haynes is a fantastic FYOS teacher who truly wants to support her students and see them succeed. Very light class with very little coursework, all she asks of you is to come to class ready to learn. Her lectures about political propaganda were so interesting, an awesome professor to have in your corner. Take Dr. Haynes!!!
Dr. Haynes is awesome. I took this course online over Maymester and thee was a lot of reading but it was incredibly interesting. The material is simply great and her videos are too. She also replies to questions immediately and grades thing really quick. Bottom line: Take her but be prepared to work hard and you will learn a lot.
She is awesome!! Took this class online and it was super easy, but I also learned a lot. I didn't think there was too much work, just a lot of tests (online, open note, no lockdown browser) She is kind and makes this class very interesting. Wish I could've taken her in-person
Super great and just wants you to get something out of the class. She and her TA answer in a timely fashion. The course is definitely on the easier side, a lot of reading though, but it's totally doable. easy A.
This professor seemed to have a good deal of experience with the course. It was organized and interesting. The setup worked for me, and I was busy this summer. She was responsive and the TA. was, too. They communicated every week with an update and always answered questions. fast. I learned more than I thought I would in an online class.
Haynes teaches one of the best classes I've taken so far. There are 9 units + a few extra quizzes, and some units only have 1 test. 3 big deadlines, so you can spread out work easily. Very easy, and there is definitely a lot you learn about politics from her to use in everyday life. Gives extra credit for tests only, some are easier than others.
Love, love, LOVE Dr. Haynes! This class was great and I thoroughly enjoyed having her as my professor!
Dr. Haynes is truly one kindest professor anyone could have. She's very open to questions and clear in her instructions. If necessary she has no problem providing further explanations or help to students who ask. Now be warned, there's lots of reading from the textbooks. lectures are so in depth that they cover about 90% of the textbook materials.
Dr. Haynes made this course very manageable online. There's 9 tests, about 10-15 short quizzes, and 2 discussion boards. The readings for each chapter are very long but if you actually commit to doing them, there is no need to watch or read any other supplementary material and you will get an A on the tests. Dr. Haynes is also very nice.
Dr. Haynes is one of the funniest, most personable professors I have had the pleasure of learning from. From her political takes to practical life advice, her lectures were a pleasure, and there was very little work outside of reading and our weekly tests.
If your looking for an easy online class in the summer take this one. You can legitimately finish the whole course in a week, it is that easy and short. If you took AP Gov in high school it is the same exact thing.
Professor Haynes makes this class engaging and easy to do well in. The open-note tests and quizzes are manageable if you use the textbook. unstuckstudy ai was a lifesaver for study prep too. Overall, a solid class with a caring instructor.
this is a doable course. It allows you to work at your own speed with three deadlines that cover three sections each. I enjoyed the reading and the lectures, which are available as videos to watch. It was organized & my TA was very fast in responding to questions. So was Dr. Haynes. I got a lot out of it and had never had US or GA government.
Took the class over the summer, it was super easy and flexible. I didn't feel like it was a lot of work if you looked at the study guide, scanned the textbook and videos, and took the practice quizzes you should be fine.
This class is part of a program to help you figure out what careers are out there and what skills you need. And you get to hear directly from people doing the work and Dr. Haynes also gives these really practical lectures on the basics of political comms, campaigns, lobbying, advocacy and public policy. Very helpful.
Good class. Was manageable. I worked ahead and completed the course early. Interesting content. Not biased material. Theory and practical together. Good TA.
Honestly thought the online class was a good bit of work but I also just don't love reading so that's probably why. Regardless she is amazing and always willing to help. Not my most favorite topic of class but it is manageable and of course required so definitely could've been worse.
Excellent professor who was very caring and helpful to students. Even though class was online she made it interactive and showed that she cared about how we were doing in the class even if we were not in an in person class together.
This FYOS was about career opportunities in public affairs as well as some of the skills and knowledge that helps a person get into those careers. We had a federal lobbyist and prior congressional staff come and speak to class and we could attend other speakers and go to lunch with them. Informative and fun course because Dr. Haynes made it so.
She is super responsive to all emails and actually cares about her students well being like fr fr. She canceled our final this semester because so many of us have really packed semesters. I took her online so she may be different in person but I highly doubt it. Amazing person and the class is very straight forward and she makes it easy.
Professor Haynes is THE professor to take. Find a way to work her into your schedule!!
Loved Dr. Haynes! Engaging class, great communication. She posts news articles that correspond to current events/topics that come up in class. Tests and quizzes were pretty challenging, but open book, and required some writing. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Lots of reading, but put in the work and it'll pay off. Definitely take Dr. Haynes!
Take this professor. So accommodating and can go at your own pace. Very doable.
Informative class that was very accessible. Lectures made the reading material simple to understand - at least to me. Games and extra credit were added value. TAs were responsive. Professor engaged and encouraging. Just well organized and well taught, especially for an online class which is generally read and a test. This one was more engaging.
Super easy online class. You can do it at your own pace; there are a few deadlines but she extended every single one and canceled our final paper. Be prepared for the tests to have some writing that requires critical thinking but if you set aside the time you can finish the class weeks if not months early. She seems super nice and accessible.
Dr. Haynes is, by far, the best professor I've ever had the pleasure of having. Apart from her lectures being long-winded and a little ramble-y, she is extremely caring, makes an effort to meet with students outside of class whenever possible, and gives tons of advice if you ask. If you can take her FYOS, definitely go for it!
Online class. Everything is open-note. Graded on exams, quizzes, 2 discussion posts, and extra credit. Sometimes you get 2-3 attempts and she takes the highest grade. Canceled the final project and made it an extra credit opportunity. Very easy A. I probably spent an hour a week on this class & finished a month before the last assignment was due.
I did not find the material to be easy but the professor made it very accessible and the lectures made things clear to me. I also emailed several times and got a response with more explanation. It is open note, and she is very responsive to student requests, but you have to do a good bit of work, some of the questions are are hard.
👍🏼 good professor. Sense of humor, nice, and easy to reach.
The class was organized & chill - some due dates were off but not a lot. We moved at a good pace,& while u were expected to read the material, it was not too much. We had 3 open book exams, activities &quizzes that were graded, and our paper had four assignment stages-question, annotated bib, draft & final.Interesting lectures& thought-provoking.
Great experience. The class is about the practice of politics. She brings in different people who work in politics. I learned so much from hearing from people like the attorney general of ga and the campaign mgr of Abrams. The comms team from the gov came in and people who do consulting, work in advocacy etc. Good assignments, too. All practical.
Dr. Haynes' class is a MUST before graduating. She is one of the most caring, organized, & intelligent professors I have ever had. Lectures worth showing up to. IF the due dates are ever wrong online, she will change them ASAP, send out an email, and be understanding if you are late. Cannot recommend taking a class with her enough. SHE IS AWESOME!
Dr. Haynes is the best prof ever! 4 tests, a few in quizes (says pop quiz but she always tells you the week of), study guides, and a final paper. Gives excellent feedback and has really interesting opinions and lectures. Her anecdotes make the class fun and while you can skip class at times, you'll miss out on info that makes the tests really easy.
Perfect class. You learn a lot. You make friends with the people in your class (because you work together and it is a fun learning experience). She is smart and kind. I hated that it ended today.
Every political science student at UGA HAS to take Dr. Haynes before they graduate. This class is my favorite of undergrad so far because of how engaging and caring Dr. Haynes is. Text was a pdf. Attendance is not mandatory but there are pop quizzes (she usually warns about them) and you really do not want to miss her lectures! A true gem.
This was the best class, with an incredible professor. I cannot recommend it more. There was a big essay project, some labor intensive reading guides, and a pop quiz but she is very reasonable and gives you plenty of warning/time for all of them. Her lectures are interesting, and she gives you the textbook as a pdf so you do not have to buy it.
Dr. Haynes deserves all the hype she gets. A wonderful professor and I hope to take her again!
Incredible Professor with an even bigger heart best professor I have had to date only complaint is brings her own opinions into the course which can be tricky with politics but amazing nonetheless
No amount of positive adjectives could do Dr. Haynes justice. It's obvious she cares deeply for her students and will do anything to help us succeed. You get out of the class what you put into it. There is very little classwork, but she often stresses the importance of participation. I can't imagine my time at UGA without Dr. Haynes.
Professor Haynes is so nice. Her class was fun, I HATE Political Science but she actually made it fun and the textbook is kinda interesting. You will do great if you submit things on time and put in some work. 10/10 recommend her.
Dr. Haynes is amazing, even online, and I am going to do everything in my power to take another class with her in person in the near future. She is incredibly well-organised, an engaging lecturer, and perhaps the singular most attentive and caring professor I've had in college. Cannot rave enough about her, and would highly recommend.
Great teacher! Class is very easy if you give yourself time to do everything. I really enjoyed this class, and it got me more interested in politics and government.
Easiest class by far! Everything is open note, open book, open internet, so the class was really easy to get through. We were given three due dates throughout the semester but I finished the entire course before the first due date.
This was most organized online class I have taken at UGA. . The textbook was interactive. it was open note but some of the questions on the exams are tough. The exam always had a critical thinking part. We actually weren't allowed to use the web on exams, just our notes and the book. Teacher communicated too. You knew the deadlines.
I love love love her! She is a great professor who really cares about student success. She does not allow technology, so it's paper notes or flat iPad notes. You can talk to her and get something figured out if you need your laptop. She doesn't take attendance, but if attendance is low, she will give extra credit or bonus points to those in class.
I love Dr. Haynes SO much! I have never been particularly interested in political science but she made it so interesting. The class was engaging but not difficult. The tests are online and you have days to take them, which I loved. Just make sure you stay on top of the online textbook!
MY FAVORITE PROF! She is amazing, and her class is so entertaining. She makes lectures enjoyable, and it is clear she actually loves what she does. There are weekly reading assignments, but they are doable and help with studying. GO TO CLASS! Even though attendance isn't mandatory, it will help so much!!
Dr Haynes is the BEST. She tries to keep her lectures entertaining and she is very funny. She did start taking attendance mid way through the semester because people stopped showing up. The tests are super laid back online.
Best pols 1101 professor! Tests were open note and online, she gives lot of extra credit just for showing up to class- especially later in the semester. Definitely take her!
A wonderful person who knows her course material so thoroughly but is also accessible and teaches simply. Only homework is textbook work, but plenty of time to do it. Tests are take home, with two opportunities. T.A's are all great and give good feedback.
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Haynes! Aside from being extremely knowledgeable and experienced in politics, it is clear that she really cares about you. She responds to emails quickly and really wants to get to know you. If you do the work, there's no reason you should get less than an A. By far my favorite professor I've had at UGA!
The nicest lady ever with the biggest heart! She truly cares about her students and is a great resource. There is a reason why everyone in SPIA loves her!!!
As someone that is not super interested in government (Biochem major + pre-pharmacy), she made the class so easy, enjoyable, and insightful. She genuinely cares so much about her students, and she has so much empathy for others. She is incredibly inspirational as well. Absolutely wonderful professor, would recommend to anyone!
Professor Haynes is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is so passionate about politics and she tries her best to make her lectures engaging. Reading the textbook is required because there are quizzes that count for grade, but it's not bad. Exams are online. Attendance not required until she notices numbers dropping. TAKE HER!!
Dr. Haynes is amazing!! She cares so much about her students, the material, and your success. She challenges you to think outside the box and is so intelligent. She makes an effort to know her students and their names.
The class is pretty easy, lectures are interesting, but very skippable, although she started taking attendance later in the semester when people stopped showing up. You definitely need to go to breakout though, not for the content but just for the attendance grade. The activities are usually just discussion, or a middle school level worksheet.
This class is a required course for all majors. That said, Dr. Haynes made it interesting and doable. I went to lecture because I always learned something new, and she talks about things that matter today. The book is interactive, and breakout was fun and interesting. Always thoughtful. And it allowed for everyone to contribute. Great class.
This was one of my best learning experiences at UGA. As a senior, this course really was a great capstone for me. The focus was practical, applied politics - lessons about how things are actually done and we had over 20 plus practitioners who came to class and talked about their work and how they got there. Loved it.
She is pretty strict about technology in her lectures. She also began the course by not taking attendance during lectures, but halfway through, she decided to start doing so. Breakout groups also require attendance. There are weekly readings with questions and quizzes, but they're online and pretty easy!
I really like Audrey Haynes, and she did a great job teaching 1101. She got strict about attendance halfway through this semester, and from the beginning did not allow people to use laptops or phones in class. Despite that, I still enjoyed this class. It was super easy, and really well formatted. I also enjoyed the breakout sessions every week.
I know I made a B+ and this course is not that hard, but my grade is my fault. She is a great professor and even though attendance turned mandatory she is very flexible and you just have to communicate. I was just lazy. At the end of the day she is a fair professor and only you influence your grade. Take her!
she is the sweetest and applied politics is a must for spia students there are some down sides with it but the pros far outweigh the cons
Professor Haynes is very sweet. I wasn't a big fan of the lectures since this isn't my main area of interest, but they are detailed and include interesting facts. Attendance isn't required, but random checks can lower your final grade. Random lecture facts may appear on quizzes.
Dr. Haynes is a great professor, and her class is easy. Exams can be taken online from home without a lockdown browser. Two things to note, however. First, attendance is not taken for the first two months of the semester, but starting halfway through, she will start taking attendance indiscriminately. Second, she doesn't allow the use of laptops.
ELC was very organized and easy to follow. Breakout was active learning and I enjoyed that part a lot. Dr. Haynes was engaging and made lecture interesting and I am not into politics, but the text was interactive and had history and she talked more about today. I feel more interested in politics and have a better understanding of some issues
Attendance is occasionally taken on random days, and all but the once a week breakout sessions are lectures. All assignments except for the breakout participation are online, unlimited attempts. Tests are online, two attempts. Coursework for the week can be done in a day. She put a lot of effort into lectures, and appreciates the people who go.
