Uses unnecessary big words; confusing fill in the blank tests

All these first years' don't know what they're talking about..yes, the tests are hard, but he's a pretty cool prof, easy course but you still have to study!

Don't listen to what other people say. Augie is a brilliant prof, and is probably one of the most insightful media analysts I've ever met. If you're a serious student who's interested in soc, take him - he's a terrific speaker and a challenging teacher.

i think if you are an intelligent person he is not a bad prof - yes his lectures are hard to follow if you are not paying attention but i find that the class goes by extremely fast because of the interesting topics discussed

Test are extremely hard - but I find his lectures to be entertaining. Augie is a brilliant prof with a great personality. As long as you can handle the tests you should do well in his class.

He's definitely my favourite prof. He's very entertaining and informative to listen to. Anyone who's complaining about hard tests--sorry, kids, welcome to university. Augie's great.

Taught a course at McMaster and it was very good, insightful and yes at times it can be boring but it is just because he is thorough. Hes a fair marker and good person overall. I liked Augie and would recommend his course to anyone

Nice guy. Very knowledgeable. Exams are hard but I think he's pretty generous with final grades. Exams have way to many questions on small details and not enough that cover core concepts and themes. Light work load. No papers or assignments. I would recommend.

The prof was fabulous. Renison students are soooooo lazy and whiny and spoiled. I don't know what the other raters were whinning about. Augie made intro soc interesting and fun and was a very fair grader.

He seems nice. He's interested in what he does, gives a good overview of what sociology is. there's a lot of negative comments on here but i don't think he's bad. He doesn't allow you to talk during lecture AT ALL, which is odd. but reasonable. don't go in with a negative attitude, he's a good prof.

I don't know why these people are complaining. I think his course is rather interesting. Yes sometimes the lectures can be a bit dull, but if you listen in get into it, it's not so bad. His exams are a lot of mult choice, but they are pretty easy if you do the readings. I think hes awesome!

Augie is an excellent professor!Very knowledgeable with lots of experience.Have patience & take the time to listen in class.Social psychology reveals that those who receive poor marks will automatically blame external factors such as the professor. Love to see marks of those that rated Augie poorly.

Augie is such a nice guy! He's always respectful to students and demands respect back from them. True, his classes can be a little boring but the class is good overall, and I don't know why people are ****ing if they don't even go to class! Augie is cool in my books...p.s. he looks like Albert Einstein and I'm not even kidding

I dont understand how anyone could not like Fleras, he is a great guy who has only intelligent things to say. He really knows his stuff and he makes corny jokes that you cant help but laugh at. I dont care what anyone says, i really enjoyed his class!

Prof. Fleras knows his stuff about media; midterm was fair but make sure you do the readings. Lectures seem to go off on tangents but a good prof nonetheless.

Considering I hated sociology comming into University, I would say Augie did a great job, because I now love Sociology. If you want to do good, read the text, take notes, and just study. Great guy, funny, nice, and very helpful. If you show respect and interest, he will show the same back to you. Got to love the hair, and laid back style.

Interesting and clear.

Professor Fleras is the best sociology professor I have ever had. He is extremely helpful, knows everything about media and mass communication, and provides students an opportunity to learn more about the media. I highly recommend buying Professor Fleras' book called, "Mass Media Communication in Canada." It was a privilege to be in Dr.F's class!

Interesting course, and prof is alright. He replies to e-mails responses quickly and tries to help... but dont be surprised if you end up with a 65 or lower in this course. Extremely hard marker and test are based on PURE STATS!

This guy is nuts. Well not really...but his hair is! ha-ha ok anyways, he is a very dedicated and engaging prof. I like his lectures and how he focusses on the details of the information which enriches the course even if your mark doesn't end up being stellar. He has expecations of you, so STUDY! and get ur butts to class :-(

he is actually so rude. but an awesome teacher.hardest and most difficult class in university but don't expect any warmth. he uses words i have never heard of but challenges you. take the course but be prepared to probably be mocked.

Very helpful professor. Ignore the comments below. Clearly, people do not know what they are talking about or they are not doing the readings! I took this class and really enjoyed Professor Fleras' text and lectures. I learned a lot from his class and hope to take another one with him soon!

It seems as though most of the students giving Professor Fleras negative reviews are in first-year. This guy is a real academic in the true sense of the word - very, old-school, knowledgeable and eccentric. Show up for class, look alive, and show that you care about the subject matter and you will do fine in Fleras' class. Great guy!

Accomplished, intelligent, engaging professor. Take his classes if you like to think!

Fleras was an engaging speaker, however, he does get a bit lost at times which can disrupt the flow of his teaching. The material was really interesting and the grading was fair. In-class assignments -get a good group. Hints at study material for tests and concisely sums the wordiness from his book during class so it's a good idea to show up.

One of the most helpful, intelligent, and caring professor's I have ever had! I am very lucky to have taken a class with Dr. F. Just read the textbook and show up to class to listen to him explain his thoughts and you will do just fine.

Dr. Fleras is quite passionate about his work. His area of expertise is interesting and informative. Always use his textbooks for exams and writing essay, but use your OWN WORDS!

Augie was my professor in my 3rd year of undergrad. Now I am a professor at another university. He is one of the only ones I remember. He is knowledgeable, well accomplished, and truly an amazing academic. I miss his class and long chats he had with me. He helped me with a paper for another class for hours. In short, appreciate him.

Prof. Fleras has been one of the best profs I have had at the University of Waterloo. Participation is key, he likes to be challenged with well thought out responses. Though he may not agree with your opinion he will respect you for having one at all. As long as you show that you actually care he is approachable and will respect you/be helpful.
