August. What can I say? The very first thing he tells you is that he is not mad, that's just the way his face is. Wonderful professor. He doesn't use a book, which makes it confusing at times but he's more than happy to clarify. He's interesting and really puts meaning behind everything he says. WONDERFUL TEACHER.
GREAT teacher! Has a funny/sarcastic sense of humor that makes the class enjoyable. He grades fairly and really encourages the class to participate. I would take another class from him... Again, GREAT teacher.
Probably the most angry looking teacher youll ever see. However, he isnt angry at all, he is hilarious. Great teacher. explains everything until everyone understands. I got an A and hardly tried really. great class. can be fun. give lots of extra credit oppurtunities too.
August is just incredible. He was my speech coach on the Speech Team & I can not say enough how much he has taught me. Because of him I have grown and learned so much. He made me realize how much potential I have and never stopped encouraging me or challenging me. Anyone that gets to learn from August is truly lucky. I am forever thankful to him.
August is proabably one of the most interesting people you will meet in your life. He's a brilliant professor. Don't be intimidated by the boots and leather August will educate you and really cares about the success of his students.
He is awesome! Makes the class fun and not scary. Gives directions clearly and grades fairly. He is super funny and my favorite teacher Take his class!!!
Greatest Prof ever! He might seem really scary on the first day of class and might curse much, but he is the best! He hates if you're not there on time. Do ALL of the work and really dedicate to practicing your speech and you'll fo fine. Oh and his face just looks like that :)
Benassi has this powerful face with a kind heart. He has a very clear voice, tons of humor and super lenient. I got out of his class thinking: I wish he was my real dad.
August is awesome, wish he was my uncle just so I could hang out with him outside of class. For such a scary subject he sets a great mood. His humor is awesome. I already had lots of experience speaking before this class, and I learned so much from him. He is someone you can learn from, not only about the subject, but life as well.
If you're going to take speech. Take HIM!! He is so cool! As long as you put forth some effort and do your speeches you will pass. AND DON'T BE LATE!! If your late to class a lot try to fix it. He is a Nice guy who DOESN'T want you to fail. Looks Scary but he just looks like that. Is actually a very helpful and kind person. Walks with purpose!
Benassi is quite possibly the best teacher I've ever had. He explains what needs to be done in his class to get an A, and helps students to achieve nothing less than that. Do the work. Give the speeches. Show up on time. If you do those 3 things, you will get an A. He's not scary and not a jerk, he knows what he's talking about. Take his class!
Great speech professor and really smart guy. He's really funny and sets a comfortable mood in class. I would actually look forward to this class because of how entertaining he is. As far as grading goes, he's clear about what he expects and it really isnt hard to hit every thing he's looking for in your speech. Definately reccomend
Great Speech teacher! Real funny guy, he looks mean but he is not, and it is easy to learn in his class.
August is a great speech teacher. i dreaded speech but his class was as painless as they come. his class is very engaging and he knows his material very well. just like many here and even he himself have/has said, thats just the way his face is. i highly recommended him.
TAKE THIS CLASS, YOULL LEARN SOMETHING.
He knows his subject well. you can tell speech is what he enjoys. He creates a supportive environment and is extremely helpful. If you have to take a speech class, this is the one to take. You'll actually learn how to give a speech properly.
Makes the class a bit more relaxed. I was not looking forward to this class, but it turned out to be not that bad. He's a really great teacher. I enjoyed going to this class every week
I would highly recommend this class. Yes at first like all classes the first day is intimidating and Mr. Benassi was just that.If you are willing to put forth effort and simply do the work and follow his structure, you can easily achieve an A! Trust me. You can do decent on speeches and do some extra credit and not fret about your speech class.
Overall just a great professor. If you're scared of getting called on, don't worry he wont remember your name til the end of the semester. He yells alot, but thats how he talks. Dont be afraid to ask questions. Fairly easy class, just try and come to class. Do all extra credit and everything will be EASY! LOVE PROF BENASSI! I recommend him!
I loved this class, He is an extremely interesting person who knows at least a little bit about everything but not in a chauvinistic kind of way. FOr sure take him!!
Great speech teacher. He made the entire class better speakers.
Benassi is awesome! I was TERRIFIED of speech and by the end I was excited. He picked on me in class but he made it fun! No textbook and everyone is taught clear and he is willing to help if you need it! If you hate speech...or if you dont. Take him!
Benassi is one of the best Professors you could ever get. He's very straight forward with the class requirements and what is needed to do well when giving your speech. He's very informative and will get you to be a great speaker. Heads up, he's very loud, but that helps you to memorize the material. Overall one of the best classes I've ever taken!
Bennassi is a GREAT teacher! He is very intimadating at first because he has a loud voice and an intimadating build but he is a nice guy and a softie if you talk about the right subjects. He's incredibly well-rounded & fun to listen to. He is serious about not missing or being late to class. Just don't miss class & do your speeches, you'll do fine!
Benassi is a teacher who really knows his stuff! Genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. The other reviews are true: He is an intimidating guy, but don't let that fool you. If he can tell that you really put effort into your work, he's all the more lenient about your grade. Very cool guy! TAKE HIS CLASS! You won't regret it!
Easy teacher! Attendance is MANDATORY, if thats a problem then choose a different professor. Otherwise very easy, 4 speeches are your entire grade, extra credit offered which I got a C, B, B, A on the speeches and got an A. Hated speaking but its gets easier. Highly recommend for easy A.
Amazing Professor, a class that you do not want to miss. He is very straight forward and easy to understand. Highly recommend taking him for Communications. Your allowed to miss one speech, and can make it up. The best class at Moorpark!
Great professor.Highly recommend.
BEST TEACHER EVER! he is so easy, and is willing to help if you ask questions. just be on time and attend class and u are guarantied an A
First day of class I couldn't believe he was really the professor. He looks intimidating because he's a big guy and kinda looks scary. But he's really nice. He grades very fair, offers extra credits, and gives crystal clear instructions. I really enjoyed this class!!! Ohh and attendance and being punctual are MUSTs for him.
Benassi is a really cool dude. Yes he is very intimidating at first cuz he is huge. He is a mix of Thor and the Undertaker. Do not be late or excessively absent! He offers a ton of extra credit so it is hard not to get an A. Just be brave and give it your all and you will be fine, guaranteed.
Loud, Funny, Workout Junkie who is a DVD Collector. Intimidating and Fair while being Smart with LongHair....Gentle Giant. Thanx August.
SUPER SCARY when you first see him, NEVER BE LATE FOR CLASS. he has a scary look on his face that is there ALWAYS so you never know what is on his mind or if he likes you, or your speech. overall he is a great teacher and he knows almost everything. Not one topic he doesnt know of. GREAT CLASS.
I was dreading this class more than any other class because I HATE public speaking, but I absolutely couldn't have asked for a better professor to make it easier, interesting, and more comfortable. He is understanding, fair, funny, and a little bit scary. Just don't be late or absent. Do the extra credit too, it's what got me an A. Amazing teacher.
No one wants to take speech but he is the BEST TEACHER EVER!!!! Learned so much from his class and he grades fairly easy. Lots of extra credit opportunities that can make your grade an easy A. Loved him and he is an amazing teacher. Easy A in a class you don't want to take is the best feeling ever!!!!! TAKE BENASSI!!!!
I was intimidated at the beginning of his class, but it is so rewarding to just keep at it in Oral Interp. He may be intimidating, but he cares so much for his students, you can really tell. Definitely my favorite professor, an easy A if you put the work in!
He really only cares about the "hotness" level but I have to comment on his class. He is honestly one of the best teachers i've ever had. His class is hard but he gives you A LOT of extra credit opportunities. I now look at people differently when they talk, I talk and carry myself differently. I actually learned and looked forward to class.
hate public speacking but having benassi was great! He was so helpful & made the class fun & easy he makes jokes all the time & it's VERY rare that you will see him smile but he makes everything relaxing & enjoyable. offers extra credit do it it saved me. attendance/being on time is mandatory! i would love to just sit in his class and listen to him
August is a fantastic professor who truly loves what he does, and in today's day and age that seems like a fleeting trait. He's very loud, but concise. His speeches follow thorough guidelines. He is most likely one of the most intelligent people I've met. If you are someone who is afraid to take speech...take this class, you won't regret it
He is one of the best teachers i've ever had, he made the class fun, all the students end up being friend, Learned so much from his class. Lots of extra credit, if you be organize and follow what he want you can easy get an A
Such a great professor!! He makes it so easy to prepare and present a speech. He tells you exactly what he's looking for too. Make sure you're on time! 1 tardy = half an absence. 4 absences means you are dropped. Lots of extra credit in the semester.. (40 points worth and a whole letter grade is 50!) Thanks Benassi!
Benassi is seriously one of, if not, the best professor I ever had. He knows what he's talking about, so be sure to listen. He's 100% willing to help and correct you if you need it. Be careful though, he takes the class very seriously. Attendance is mandatory, and you'll be penalized for any absences. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
One of my favorite teachers of all time! I really like how he structured the speeches because it made it so easy to write them. Attendance is mandatory and you must be on time. At the beginning of the semester I was rather quiet, but now I'm completely comfortable in front of people and have come out of my shell, all thanks to August
One of the best classes I have ever had in my college career. Not only do you meet tons of friends but August makes the class enjoyable. He is intimidating at first but really wants you to do well on your speeches. Only 3 speeches the whole semester not bad. Would highly recommended him!! You will be scared at first, but love him towards the end
Such a great professor! intimidating at first but seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had. Really funny and keeps the class entertained!dont be late or else he will call you out in front of the whole class. allows 50 pts of extra credit and one late speech. Not hard to get an A at all as long as you try and follow the outline
Great professor. We need more professors like him. Easy A and gives 40 points extra credits at end of semester. He really wants his students to do well.
He asked us to give him the pepper and just with that he shows he's a funny guy.GREAT teacher, very funny, and REALLY wants to help you.you're all in the same boat. relax. he said we'd need the book, i personally did not. i think most people did but he gives you exactly what you need so i found the book useless. no homework. 5 speeches.go to class
He keeps things interesting. If you are scared to speak in front of others, take his class, he makes sure everyone is respectful and he wishes for puppies to fall out of the sky before each speech ;) He knows a little about everything and is very knowledgeable and helpful. He has a few simple class rules and if you follow them you will be good.
Great teacher, will do a lot to help students. Gives 40 points of extra credit.
Great professor. Very clear and he knows his stuff. He makes the class very interesting and fun.
Scary and intimidating at first, but really nice guy and is there to help if you want the A. If you choose to slack, it will reflect in your grade. Not a difficult class, just hard to get up infront of the class and speak. Once you get over that, it's easy.
Benassi was AWESOME! Seriously cares about what he is teaching. KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT EVERYTHING. You cannot lie to this guy. AWESOME TEACHER. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Probably the best professor I have ever had. WORD OF WARNING: He is loud and looks like the undertaker. Honestly a great professor. Take this guy.
Loved him! He's really interested in everything and really does he's research. Someone you can have a great conversation with. Intelligent, looks like a burnette Thor, can be loud and intimidating but always willing to help students if they help themselves as well. Always had a fun time in his class and he explains things well.
Smartest teacher that I know !! He is extremely helpful, speaks his mind, and makes the class very comfortable with speaking in front of the class! I highly recommend him !!
Awesome teacher! He looks very intimidating but he's actually really cool and helpful. GO TO EACH CLASS AND DON"T BE LATE!! He makes the class super fun. Also, you rarely use the textbook.
He's straight forward, honest, and crystal clear in what he wants and what he expects from you in the class. He's very knowledgable and has interesting lectures. Go to class always.
Really fun class! No textbook. Be on time to the minute and show up to every class! You have a very long time to put your 3 main 100 point performances together. Probably one of the most passionate professors I've ever met! I had a blast acting out characters I chose to play! I had zero experience acting too! Most fun communication class offered!
Really great teacher for Oral Interp. I'd never attempted anything like this class before, and only took it for the major requirement, but August structures the class very well so that there's no stress at all for performances or the single written assignment. You'll need to work a lot on your own, but all info is very clear and easy to understand.
Great techniques and teaching skills. Kind scary but hes still awesome.
The other students aren't lying. He's the real deal. The man is a genius - he WILL blow your mind every class period. Be EARLY and show up everyday because it's worth every second of your time to be in his presence. Very entertaining serious personality. Grades honestly and 50 pts extra credit offered out of 500 pt total.
August Benassi doesn't sugar coat public speaking for you, hes knows you're nervous and instead of telling the class speaking isn't terrible blah blah he actually supports you and lets you know its ok to be afraid, its natural. 4 speeches all perfectly laid out with exactly what you need to get an A, you'll survive he is AMAZING!!
Prof. Benassi is an AWESOME teacher. Although everyone is scared to speak, he makes the class comfortable and a fun environment. He is really knowledgeable and prepares you for future endeavors. Highly recommend taking him even though he can be a little intimidating. Pay close attention to what he wants and you will get an A!
My biggest fear is public speaking but I knew I had to take this class. First speech, I almost cried. Last speech, I couldn't wait to do it.I have never felt more confident. He makes you not scared to give a speech. TAKE HIM. He is amazing!!!!! You will not regret it. Just do what he asks you to do, you will succeed.
Amazing Speech Professor. Pretty easy class if you follow instructions, do all extra credits, 4 speeches, must attend every class to get A, & DON'T be a Smart Ass. Very nice teacher, if you need help, just ask, and be respectful, he's chill till you cross him. Overall just show up to class, follow instructions, do extra credit, and be respectful.
Absolutely incredible teacher. Will terrify you the first class, but with every class after you'll realize just how lucky you are to be in his presence. Probably the smartest man I've ever met, and more inspiring with every day. Took this class 2 previous times and was so afraid I dropped. Conquered my fear within weeks! Best college experience yet
Benassi is probably not someone you would expect to be a speech teacher, he's kinda intimidating! But he knows his stuff and makes class very interesting & really entertaining! But, it's speech class so it is hard; but just pay attention to what he wants and PRACTICE your speeches and you'll pass!
He is a very big guy and looks very intimidating. However, he is very intelligent and does his very best to make sure everyone is comfortable in his classroom. He does a very good job explaining how to present a speech because he shows examples. He can also be funny at times. It's a high stress level class but August gives tools to be successful.
REALLY INTIMIDATING. You can pass if you put in the effort. I hate giving speeches that I would rather die but I had to take this class to transfer. He's really funny but everytime I walked into the classroom I was so nervous for stand up attendance & giving my speeches. Impromptu was really hard for me and he wants it specific on the structure.
DO NOT MISS CLASS!! You lose points every time you miss class and you only have 4 days to miss. He is a stickler for the rules so don't mess things up with this class. He is so scary but don't let that affect your performance in class. Confidence is key and I really recommend taking this with a friend because this class is so awkwardnerve wrecking
He is great. He was clear about what he expected from you and if you do that you pass the class. Great at communicating exactly what the assignments were and how to go about them. Do the work as he says and you will be more than fine. He was very intimidating at first but don't let that fool you. He is very nice and helpful. Only 4 speeches!
August is a really awesome teacher. There are 4 total speeches & he tells you exactly what he wants for each. Plus, there is extra credit offered at the end. He knows a lot of stuff about a lot of subjects so his lectures are incredibly interesting. He is pretty strict about being late, absent, & using phones. But hey, he's attractive.
Very direct and concise.
Everyone should take speech. With that said, everyone should take it with August. Not only is he a great teacher, but an very interesting and entertaining individual. He's very clear on what he wants from you in the four speeches you have to give and in case you mess up, he offers a good amount of extra credit. Trust me, August is the man.
I was petrified to take speech but I'm so glad I chose Benassi. He's quite intimidating at first but you warm up to him quickly. He makes talking in front of people not too scary. Its really simple to pass his class, but there is no way to B.S. your way through.. He is wicked smart and he will call you out if he catches you using bad info.
Very specific and clear in what is expected. Recommended for those who hatefear getting up in front of the class and speaking.
August Benassi is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students!! What he expects from you is clear since day one! He is very kind and funny! Don't skip class!! Your grade will be affected! Remember don't be afraid to ask questions! He is very helpful!
Loud and vocal in what he expects for the speeches. If you follow his instructions and show up to class you will pass.
Had the best experience in his class. Made public speaking a breeze.
Had the best experience in his class. Made public speaking a breeze. Beware of missing class days because it counts. Take it with friends to make yourself more comfortable.
Public speaking is terrifying but Benassi makes it easy. You're still a bundle of nerves but he's very supportive and understands that. He's hilarious and interesting to listen to, never a dull moment. Always attend class, it matters! And always be prepared for speeches. I highly recommend Benassi, he's an amazing professor.
It was interesting
He was very direct and harsh with what he wanted you to do specifically in each speech. If you follow his outlines and guidelines exactly the class is an easy A. He is a great motivational speaker and often knows everything that goes on in the news and current TV shows. You can talk to the guy about anything. He also resembles WWE's Undertaker.
Professor August is a tough grader, after the first speech. He is very specific on what you need in order to pass, which honestly it's very helpful. There are no trick questions (hard to believe, but true). If you want to pass, never be late, listen and be ready to speak! When you have a speech due make sure to PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!
August is an incredible teacher who truly cares about his students. He tells you exactly what he wants you to do, which means the only way to fail is if you do not show up or you are incapable of following simple directions. Just try not to get distracted by his mesmerizingly smooth chest, it can be like staring at the sun. Bring sunglasses.
You HAVE to be there, I can't stress that enough. Punctuality is a must, too. He knows everyone is afraid of speech, and I was far from an exception. He made it easier, and the class actually became enjoyable. His written assignments, the few there are, are super important. I can't recommend him enough.
Benassi was a pretty cool professor! He was pretty intimidating at first but once you get involved in class, he is very down to earth and awesome! If you are open to criticism, I would take his class!
Went into the class a pretty awful public speaker, came out of the class a passable one, more than I ever expected. August is the man, he maybe the best teacher I took in my 3 years at Moorpark. Seems intimidating, and expects your effort, but is completely easy to talk to and makes it extremely clear what he wants you to do. Highly recommend.
I was absolutely mortified of taking this class, but August was very helpful in me becoming more comfortable in the classroom. He says specifically that he aims to reduce anxiety. He wants you to succeed. Follow his instructions and you will do just fine. Do not miss class. He is strict, but not to a fault. And remember, PRACTICE!
August is intimidating the first day, but you begin to see that he cares the world for his students. His number one goal is to help you succeed in this class and life. Follow the performance rubrics and give some effort and you will pass. 3 major performances, one paper on orphan black and no tests! If you try at this class you can't fail!
Fantastic professor. August forces you to step out of your comfort zone. Though the class was quite difficult, his grading criteria and expectations were crystal clear. I highly recommend his class.
Honestly I was dreading this class the most and I was actually pretty sad when it ended. Although giving speeches still gives me anxiety, I really enjoyed his class. He explains himself well and is easy to talk to. Fyi, he is intimidating at first, but he's a really cool guy and he really does know what he's talking about. Also, do the extra credit
Benassi is one of the greatest professors. I am so happy i chose his speech class! He makes everyone comfortable in the most terrifying class requirement. I am terrified of speaking but Benassi made it fun and easy for me. I recommend Benassi if you need a teacher who understands your nervousness in speech.
Great teacher. I didn't want to take this class but it turned out to not be too bad. He explains himself very well and knows what he is talking about. Makes expectations of class very clear.
In simple words: Prof. Benussi is hilarious, is very clear on what should be included in your speech, can appear to be scary in size but is honestly really nice (Unless you disrespect his syllabus, then he'll give you "that stare") Class is very easy AS LONG AS YOU TRY, if you never show up and don't plan on trying to learn anything, forget it.
Awesome teacher. Very clear and genuinely wants to get to know you as a human. His outlook is genius. There is so much to learn from him. He's strict and fair.
This teacher was quite honestly the best teacher I have had all semester. He's really funny in class, and actually cares about each individual person there. I am definitely taking him again
Taking Speech with Professor Benassi was the best class I had this semester. He can be very intimidating at first, but you quickly realize that there's not much to be afraid of. MAKE SURE YOU PRACTICE YOUR SPEECHES A LOT!!!!! I got an A in the class because I practiced like crazy. You will NOT regret taking his class, I highly recommend it.
August makes a mandatory class interesting and he offers good explanation of the subject. Speech can be really intimidating but he makes it bearable. I did not buy the book and I still got an A with the help of the extra credit offered. IMPORTANT: Showing up is important and if you miss a certain number of days you will not be able to pass.
I have never been so intrigued by a professor before. He's so smart! I feel like I learned about other things while he taught speech, just very cohesive! He gives a format that if you basically fill in the blanks and you practice YOU WILL GET AN A! He's intimidating at first but he's too good not to take him! Loved his class
Really good teacher but he is strict on the structure of the speeches. Make sure you have all of the components of the speech otherwise you will lose points very quickly.
This man is top-tier. He's smart, funny, and helpful. He is very fair in his grading and he lets you know exactly what he expects from you. I didn't love public speaking, but after being taught by him once, I really wanted to be his student again. I cannot recommend him enough. Hands down my favorite professor.
Benassi definitely knows what he's talking about. I was terrified of public speaking but I learned a lot! If you do what he says to do you'll get an A. He might be intimidating but he's honestly a teddy bear on the inside who genuinely cares about his students. Don't drop his class it would be a big mistake!!
August is very fair, he cares about his students and his work. Although he is a bit grumpy sometimes, he is an awesome professor overall I've had him for two classes and wouldn't mind taking him again
Great teacher! I was super nervous for this class (especially since Benassi is super intimidating), but I'm so glad I stuck with it! I learned a lot and overcame my fear of public speaking. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY!! Just do everything he tells you to do and take advantage of extra credit and you'll be golden, good luck!
BEST PROF EVER. Super nervous about this class in particular, but makes you feel calm. Very specific but gives great outlines and notes.
August is a very interesting person and professor. At first, you may be scared of him but after time, you realize how great he is. Make sure you go to class. Speeches are always hard but he is very lenient when it comes to grading. He is extremely knowledgeable, but not in a rude way. I would take him again.
Mr. Benassi is a great and hilarious teacher. However, he can be a tough grader and is very picky about attendance. If you follow the grading sheet for each of the speeches you will do well on most of the speeches. If you practice your speech you will do fine. I would diffidently recommend taking him and he gives out a lot of extra credit.
Amazing professor, very straightforward and respectable. He does have strict attendance and tardy policies as well as no technology policy, which at first might sound bad but pay attention write down what he says and you'll do fine. Easily my favorite professor thus far, highly recommended to take public speaking with.
He does not use the book that much and he gets the subject. He may seem mean guy but once you get to know him he a cool guy. He not one for some one who thinks missing class is okay.
BE ON TIME!!! Seriously. He is so funny and hilarious! I loved his class! As long as you follow his directions EXACTLY you'll pass. One of the best teachers on campus I've had so far. He was super scary and loud at first but as the semester continued I loved going his class and he really cares about his students. I got an A and if i can anyone can!
By far one of the best experiences I've had with a class at Moorpark college. One of the best teachers ever and he knows what he's doing. If you are willing to work taking his class will be one of the best decisions of your life, I am serious.
Definitely my favorite college professor so far. While I barely went to my other classes, I couldn't wait to go to this one. He's scares you the first day, but then becomes your favorite teacher and you really feel better about public speaking after his class.
Oral Interp is a very tough subject to grasp and is a very acquired skill that not many can master. August has very big expectations for his students but is also aware of how hard the subject is. As long as you try your best and put in an honest effort, he will give you the grade you deserve. Just dont miss class!!
Best teacher I've ever had! The first day he seems scary and strict but then you find out how cool he really is! He is very clear on what he wants from you so It is easy to do well! Just go to class and listen and you will learn so much from him. 10/10 would take again and reccomend
Very intelligent proffesor, grades hard but clearly outlines what he wants. You will learn and become a better speaker and more confident in this class.
Honestly he seems pretty scary in the beginning but he turned out to be a really cool and understanding guy. The class isn't to bad especially since he tells you Exactly what he wants and really its up to you to deliver. I personally hate public speaking but actually learned a lot And I the passed first time around with flying colors :)
If you want an easy A speech class, this isn't it. However, if you are wiling to put in the time you will be fine. Don't skip class, don't be late, and don't be disrespectful. Everything you need to know to be successful is given to you. August tells you EXACTLY what he wants. Listen, and you will learn A LOT. Try your best and you'll be 5x5 ;D
August is by far my favorite professor at Moorpark. While he might seem scary and big, he's very understanding and welcoming. He gives very very clear directions and expectations. All you need to do is to really put in effort. He is a stickler about being on time and respect in general. I would definitely take his class again.
Amazing teacher. He may seem intimidating at first, but he cares so much about his students, his subject, and his job. He doesn't mess around with tardies / absences and he will callet you out in front of everyone. But his knowledge and skills is unmatched.
Amazing teacher. He may seem intimidating at first, but he cares so much about his students, his subject, and his job. He doesn't mess around with tardies / absences and he will callet you out in front of everyone. But his knowledge and skills is unmatched. Thank you august for being a wonderful professor.
He will give you an exact outline for what you need to do. He's also very funny and super entertaining. Benassi will show you respect if you show him, his time, and your work respect as well, which isn't a hard thing to do.
Prof. Benassi increased my skill and confidence as a public speaker in a variety of ways, from the projection of my voice to the ability to stand up and speak for a couple minutes about a random topic in five minutes+. Very knowledgeable and hilarious. One of my favorites thus far.
August is a great teacher. Speech is hard but he makes the class really comfortable and not so painful. 10/10
This is the class I was most scared to take this semester, but it ended up being my favorite class by the end. He coaches the forensics team at the school (which is extremely successful every year) making him not only a professional at this topic, but passionate as well. He understands how difficult this class can be, but if you try you're golden.
I was really scared going into this class because I am a shy person, but he did an amazing job at making sure everyone felt comfortable. He genuinely wants his students to do well, and he is always willing to help. This class definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I'm so grateful for that. As long as you show up and try, you'll pass.
Phenomenal professor!! He can come off as intimidating at first, but once you get into the groove of the class you can tell he just wants you to grow as a speaker. Grading is really fair and if you just do exactly as he asks and put in the effort you should do well in this class. Personally, my speaking skills have gotten so much better.
Came into the class with my head held high because of how well his syllabus was organized, but came to realize during the prose performance lecture that he talks too loud and is unclear in how to successfully cut a piece together. He doesn't care about you as a student, he will pick on you, and half the time he rambles on about his speech team.
I'm usually really shy (don't mention my first speech lol) but Professor Benassi really helped me become a better speaker. Honestly, to become a great speaker you don't even have to go to his Office Hours or speak to him after class. Just listen to the tips that he gives you! To my fellow anxious people: don't be afraid of this professor! He's gr8.
I did not know what speech would be like going into this class but I am very glad that I enrolled in his class. The professor lays out the speech in an easy to understand way. The class is not very hard and all you need to do is show up, listen and simply try. There is copious amounts of extra credit so the A is very attainable.
Yes, he will be intimidating from the day you walk in until the day you leave but Benassi was a super cool professor. He knows the subject well. This class will break you out of your shell and is super helpful breaking your fear of public speaking.
Professor Benassi is a truly unique and remarkable teacher. He is passionate and energetic when he speaks and everything he says has relevance to the course. If you take his class, make sure to be attentive to the directions and to follow them carefully. If you can do that, you will have one of the best educational experiences possible with August.
Very specific about what is expected.
Benassi is a really good professor. You learn a lot from him weather it be speech related or not. Benassi seems scary but hes cool. He is clear in what he wants for speeches and homework. He responds to emails fast and gives your grade right away. He does give opportunity for extra credit also. :)
Professor August has clear standards for his classes and doesnt tolerate your tardiness. He coaches the speech team for moorpark and has somewhat of a director personality meaning he wants full control all the time. He has a stank face and he knows it because hell make fun of himself at times. Dont be a min late with projects or you fail.
amazing guy, doesn't talk much, extremely focused on teaching the materials, you must say hi to hi mom on here because she's watching and looks like he's got the chilli pepper lol, he might come off kind of strict but thats just his voice, very loud very direct and straight to the point
I HAVE LEARNED A LOT! If you actually do prepare for the speeches, youll pass.
I actually really looked forward to this class. Dont be scared by his loud voice and tough exterior, hes a good man, he truly wants you to get a good grade, but also wants you to learn. Hes extremely good at remembering things and talks about interesting topics. Do the work, dont BS it. SHOW UP TO CLASS. BE RESPECTFUL. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. :))
Benassi was an okay professor He definitely does not take in any amount of consideration for students (especially in light of the events of this semester). I have never been told by another professor to drop their class except for his; he feared that I would get a failing grade despite letting him know that I was still capable of a passing one.
chill dude, waited my last semester to take public speaking because of how much i hate public speaking lol. anyways he hates trump alot and really stretches it for alot of the class but i never said anything because i didnt want to get roasted by a teacher. 1) tough grader. 2) straight forward only 4 speeches, extra credit. not an easy A
This professor is awful. He uses his classroom as an echo chamber for his own beliefs. If you shamelessly repeat his talking points and say what you know he wants you to say, you'll get a good grade. If you disagree with his point-of-view you'll be graded MUCH harsher. My semester with him was infuriating and I urge you to AVOID THIS PROFESSOR!
This professor gives you every chance to succeed and learn. He is very opinionated, but you can give a speech that contradicts his beliefs if you back it up with facts and hit all the speech requirements. He allowed for a ton of extra credit points, which were very helpful. Take this class and you'll actually learn a lot. Solid guy, great professor
I really liked his teaching style. Tells you exactly what he wants done and how he wants it, and if you deliver just that you'll do alright. Don't be late to this class, just don't, if that's aa problem for you, I suggest not taking his class. 4 speeches, you get to choose 2 of the topics, if you prepare and practice you'll be fine.
Uses the classroom as his pedestal to spout his beliefs and pass it off as fact. People don't want to have a discussion though because he will turn red and begin speaking faster and faster if you disagree and it's awkward. Is less educated than other professors and it shows. Take him if you can get by the thin skin and just want someone concise
This professor seemed mean at first, but I was wrong because he was actually really nice and so funny as the semester went by. I remember he told us really funny stories in class. I did get nervous whenever I was speaking which you have to practice a lot at home saying your speech out loud. Benassi is very with his instruction for every speech.
Prof. Benassi is incredibly well-read and knowledgeable about the subject matter. He can come off quite intimidating, but he's actually very caring for his students. His class is what made me change my major to communications. He is clear about what he wants from his students and will reward a well-behaved, engaged class. You gotta put the work in.
Good professor, will help you if you put the effort needed to pass the class. A good teacher like August can really help push one's skill and or interest within this subject
Extremely strict on no phones, and you MUST be on time. write down everything he says during lectures because your speeches will be graded EXACTLY as he says. Take his words literally and you will get an A. dropped due to Corona difficulties. Honestly coolest professor ever though and a really cool guy. His class is super easy if you just listen.
Without a doubt the worst professor Ive ever came across. Rude, has zero sympathy. Super obvious he doesn't care about his students. He is an odd professor where If you dont agree with him or his beliefs then youre stupid. I would not recommend taking this professor. I have never written one of these but about this professor I just so had to.
Really the worst class Ive ever taken at Moorpark College. This teacher is boring and his assignments have no meaning. He looks for bad commentary on almost everything. He doesnt explain anything clearly. I wouldnt recommend this professor at all
Mediocre but helpful feedback
This class was odd. Feedback was clear, and modules opened early so we could turn in work based on our schedule instead of weekly due dates. However, there was not clear enough information on specific rules, such as how to hold the binder. He also was easily accessible, and would respond to emails right away. Overall hard class and good professor.
Hes a very good teacher. If you follow his instructions you will get an A. Sometimes he comes off as slightly rude when students misunderstand things, but if you follow instructions hes actually very kind. I get very nervous in speeches and stutter sometimes but he never lowers my grade for that.
August was a good professor. He is a strict grader but his grading criteria are very clear. This is a difficult class and you definitely want to check your reminders. He's very good at responding to emails in a timely manner. Read carefully, Not all instructions are on the assignments. He really just wants to see that you read everything.
Considering this was my very first online college class, I was a little nervous at first. Yet, August Benassi was a great professor. He explained things very well, clearly and concisely. At the start of each week, he would remind us exactly what was due, when it was due, and what the expectations were. Exactly what is needed in an online class!
I was a little apprehensive about taking a speech class online, but August Benassi did a great job! The assignments were clear, easy to understand, and he gave plenty examples for what he wanted to see out of the assignments. He gives great feedback for what you did wrong, but also what you did right, which is always nice to see! I would recommend.
This professor is single-handedly destroying my high-grade point average. Taking his class was a huge mistake, and now I am stuck. Do not take him.
He is rude and condescending. I didn't find him to be helpful at all. Instead, his comments on the work would be incredibly discouraging. His tone in all instructions he gives on assignments is unnecessarily aggressive.
Extremely harsh grader and his comments on work is wildly nitpick-y and rude. Would never take a class taught by him again. Very difficult class, do not take!
Its the last week of the semester and I'm so ready to be done with this class. This professor is abrasive and rude. Every lecture leaves you with a headache from an hour of his shouting. Stickler about attendance. I cannot emphasize this enough. He'll fail you if you skip class. Scolds people for showing up even 1 minute late. Awful. Don't take him
Honestly, not my favorite professor but not the worst experience. Very strict with phones and attendance. You'll definitely fall if you don't come to class. Clear expectations. Very opinionated. Does not tolerate speeches with controversial topics. Cares about his students. Very loud lecture voice. Glad the semester is almost over.
I took Benassi for my public speaking gen ed requirement and I liked him. He seems mean at first but he's actually a pretty nice guy. Just pay attention and show up to class and you'll do fine. Make sure to take notes when he goes over the speech structures.
Overall would not recommend he was very scary and seemed pissed all the time and since he teaches the competitive speech team, it feel like your not in a class to learn but to compete and you feel the pressure. Overall just a horrible experience for me had to drop class because his persona (rude and scary) & way of teaching gave me so much anxiety
I wish I was was not limited to 350 characters, because I can not do the justice of explaining how horrible of a professor August Benassi (let's not forget he's the third, because that is part of his personality at this point). To put it simply, he is incompetent, out of touch with reality, and should just stick being the third.
Are you looking for a professor that is understanding of their students, grades fairly, and is just a decent human, well keep on looking because August Benassi (also known as his god-like title of Professor Benassi the Third), is not the professor that contains any of these qualities. The only quality he holds is being holier than thou.
Since professor Benassi prides himself in data and analytics of his students, let me present the readers with some serious data calculations: 0% of students have respect for him, 0% of his students would take his class again, 0% of his students would say that he grades fairly, and 100% of his students would agree that he should not be teaching!
I'll keep this review short and simple: two thumbs down for this guy
All I can say is I just wish this professor cared as much about his students as he cares about his ego.
I would only recommend this professor to my worst enemies, but not to anyone I actually like.
It's a no for me!
Reading the assigned chapters and referring to his grammar rubric should be an easy A. Make sure you look at his comments, because if you improve on what he critiques, you will receive a better grade.
If you want an easy A don't take his course. He's a harsh grader and can seem rude but he overall is a nice guy. Tries to make sure that the class is respectful to everyone while they do their speeches. Is very strict on phones and late but not too hard to pass if you do everything to his standards.
He was a great teacher honestly. Looks mean but is super cool and chill and really just wants you to pass. ATTENDANCE is STUPID important. But he responds super fast and is always available to help. Also the grading criteria is specific so pretty easy to get an A if you put in the effort. all around just a cool dude :).
Professor Benassi is unfortunately not an understanding person at all. He is so immature and very egoistic. All he cares about is his materials, his things, and his life. I don't see any compassion in him and if you are looking for a professor who is showing some level of kindness then do not take him. Also, his examples don't make sense.
He provides good feedback and explains things well but he is a super tough grader. He gave me a zero for a requirement that was on a different module than the actual assignment. He is not very lenient on late work and your speeches have to be pretty much perfect to get any kind of grade. make sure you read every module.
For someone who teaches communication, he can improve on his communication skills. He has zero personality and is very black and white. I have a C in the class but he gave me an F as my final grade with no explanation. I would recommend you find another instructor to fulfill this GE requirement. He is a terrible example of quality educators at MC
Professor Benassi seems to have a very specific, rigid teaching style. While it may work for some, many find his grading and feedback overly harsh and discouraging. Engaging with the free textbook and using tools like unstuck AI for study prep can help navigate this class.
Avoid this class! Professor Bonassi seems more focused on his paycheck than his students. His strict policy drops students after two missed assignments. I withdrew after missing one, fearing he would fail me. His attitude was awful, and he gave off unsettling vibes. I even filed a formal complaint with the administration. Be warned
The paper was an outline informative essay and he simply said to me my words were in AI. he said the whole assignment was Ai which it wasn't. If it wasn't mine he would bring a link up about where the sentence came from. i felt very uncomfortable communicating with this employee here at Moorpark College. He plays power games since i'm a women.
Definitely do not recommended. He's very intimidating, a tough grader, and is resistant to using any technology, which makes the class feel outdated and frustrating. You also cannot miss any class, and if you're even one minute late he counts that towards absences.
I took the online class and he honestly isn't as bad as people say. He is clear in his requirements and will help you out if you ask nicely and if he sees that you are putting effort in the course. I emailed hiM multiple times throughout the 8 week course and he answered the same day. He still scares me but just do the work and you will be fine.
By the end of the semester there were only 8 things in the grade book including 1 extra credit opportunity. U have 1 opportunity to do a makeup speech but -20% of that grade. Semi strict grader. If u miss 2 or if your tardy 4 times your dropped from the course. He offers office hours and gives good outlines to follow but no grading rubric.
Professor Benassi is an extremely cool guy who puts a lot of hard work and passion into his job. Only thing that I have to complain about is that he is a tough grader so be aware of that when considering his class but overall, he was a great teacher especially for a student going into their first semester.
