He's a really nice professor and cares about history. He isn't boring and teaches in an interesting way. We read a chapter a week from the textbook and he gives a quiz or an assignment each week.
Professor Samie made this the most interesting history class I have ever taken! He doesn't teach history using dates and random information we are supposed to remember. He cares about the overall changes in history and talks a lot about how history is made. More professors should do that!
Professor August is amazing! There are modules each week with a list of readings and assignments to do, but when you fall behind he let's you make up some points. He doesn't want students to fail! More professors should be like him.
I got covid twice this semester and fell behind on all classes. Professor Samie kept emailing me every few days to make sure I was okay and he let me make up my work. Honestly couldn't have passed the class if he didn't help. We had discussions every week with a few quizzes and assignments (nothing too difficult with help).
Most interesting history class! We covered everything from ancient prehistory to Columbus. 2 quizzes, weekly discussion, midterms, final.
No feedback given but their grading criteria is simple: participate and you'll get a good grade. Assignments are entirely discussion boards. Reading materials aren't hard but definitely need some critical thinking when it comes to the questions about the multiple reading materials per assignment. Don't buy the textbook, it's not needed.
Dr. August covered queer history, theory, and showed how we belong in human history. We had lectures every week, discussions, some written assignments, and two quizzes. He uploads a review video each week full of reactions to our work and info that will be relevant for the following week.
This was a 3 week class in cybersession (NOT a regular summer class). Intense. I had to read a chapter a day and submit two assignments everyday. Professor August had the class very organized so that made it easy to get through, but there is a lot of reading. Besides the daily assignments there was a midterm and final. No quizzes or exams.
Great Professor! He's experienced in the subject and cares that we can come up with our own ideas. He plans his lectures to match the topic of the week and gives a discussion or assignment every week.
The best professor in history. His lectures are very informative and interesting. He's a very reasonable professor and doesn't bombard you with work. He always gives you enough time to get things done, looks at drafts and gives feedback.
Took Dr. August's courses for two semesters in a row. He's nice and he knows how to interact with his students. Both his classes are organized the same way, so everything is easy to follow with no surprises. Definitely will take another of his classes
*** I TOOK HISTORY 113-01 BUT IT WAS NOT AN OPTION*** I have not completed this course but I am doing fairly well in the class. He is an amazing professor and does a great job at making history interesting. I will say, there is a tremendous amount of reading and lectures to watch. But after watching and listening the work is fairly easy.
He is honestly a great teacher, all of his feedback is helpful, he doesn't bombard you with a lot of homework, and he is very lenient with late work and ensures you get the help you need if you are struggling.
I am in this class for fall 2022 and he is a great professor. He lectures and gives in class assignments. There's maybe one homework assignment a week and some quizzes once in a while. None of his material is too hard and he spends alot of time reviewing to make quizzes easier. Taking more of his classes next semester
this is my first semester in college and dr samie is a great introduction to college. some of the work and activities are like high school but his lectures and the topics we cover are much harder. he makes history a lot less boring than I thought it could be.
Excellent. I learned more from him in online than physical classes. He give video lecture and quiz is on lecture. I like same format always to be easy follow.
Dr. August is great! He gives great feedback and isn't so much of a tough grader. There are weekly discussion posts and assignments. The midterm was the only real exam and was just answering some essay questions. Final was a video presentation. He gives the readings to you so you don't have to buy a book.
Yes to everything said already. Dr. August is awkward and funny and he really knows how to teach tough subjects. I'm not very interested in history but he made the class more about important moments in history instead of covering everything. The grading is pretty easy. Quizzes every three or four weeks, weekly discussions, and some projects.
I loved this class. The professor is the most approachable teacher I've ever had. He knows the subject really well and he explained everything in a way that made me care about Asian history.
Professor Samie is great! The materials and lectures are helpful, and he makes it known that he's available to chat whenever. Most of your grade will come from class participation. Make an effort in the class discussions you will be fine.
August was super chill and approachable. I took Asian American History with him and while lectures and readings got a bit dull sometimes, he always managed to keep them relatively entertaining. Would definitely take a class with August again.
History is my least favorite course but this professor makes history sound very interesting! He assigns reading or videos to watch for every class that would lead to class and group discussion. He's also very accessible to messaging on canvas and usually replies quite fast. He's a fair grader and a nice guy! I recommend him a lot for history!
Samie's asian american history class is the best class I've taken in my life. This class has shaped me as a person, and the amount of knowledge I've gained is invaluable. VERY lecture heavy so if you miss a class, ask a friend for the notes because the slides themselves aren't going to help you. The millennial humor is a tad cringe though.
I had the pleasure of taking Asian American History with Prof August, who truly embodies the spirit of inclusivity. He has a deep commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all students and acknowledging and respecting the diverse perspectives of every student in the classroom. Definitely taking another course!
He grades easily and tells how to improve future assignments. Reading all his material and watching the lectures will definitely help you understand the topics for each week especially how he connects the past to current news. He makes it clear how the right wing is the problem with America and why history matters in our daily life
August's class is very fun and easy. Though there are a few quizzes and limited-time writings that are quite stressful. You cannot get an A grade very easily, but he grades fairly. Prepare to read and watch different stuff. You need to prepare for 1-2 hours to study each week at least, 3-4 hours if you really want a perfect grade.
Dr. August is the nicest person at the college! His lectures are fantastic and set up for non history people. He works extremely hard to provide us with solid weekly lectures and expects students to work hard as well. He covers 10,000 years of history and actually makes the assignments interesting. There are no shockingly hard assignments
I guess I'm a history major now! The professor explained why history is important and did it in a way that actually made sense. He takes pieces of history that we don't learn in school and shines a bright light on it to give a fuller picture of true history. I wish we learned for of this as kids. He's really engaging and easy to talk to.
August teaches ETHN100 like a history course about America. Each week, there is a lecture on US history and how minorities have been affected by dominant cultures. There's weekly reading but you don't have to do all of it to get a good grade. He answers assignment questions and gives constructive feedback. The online format is really easy to follow
If you're interested in civil rights and equality, TAKE THIS COURSE along with Chicano Studies, Asian American, and African American history. The material overlaps and gives a rounded view of American history and politics centering minorities. The professor is very responsive and engaged for an online class.
I took this course in the Spring of 2023, and he is an excellent instructor. The majority of the course material was covered in the lectures, so I didn't need to consult the textbook as often, but it did provide useful foundation information. There were weekly discussions, a few tests, and the occasional paper, but it was not at all difficult.
August is without a doubt the smartest professor I've ever had. His love for teaching is admirable, and it's amazing how he can get his students excited about learning. He is also easy to talk to, so class discussions with him are never dull. August is not too strict with grades and he always listens when I need help getting something done
His class was taught so sincerely and wonderfully, probably the best history professor I've ever taken. The curriculum is soo straightforward and easy to understand, the information is retainable, the discussions are enlightening, and the workload is not bad. Please take him. he's amazing
This class isn't hard, and August isn't a tough teacher. You'll do well if you just go to class and pay attention. This was one of my favorite classes, and the discussions and projects were a lot of fun. The final graphic novel project took a long time to make, but I was proud of my work when I left the class.
August makes lectures interesting and engaging, first history class I've actually enjoyed. 3 quizzes, which he gives the outlines for for beforehand and a few short home assignments. Doesn't really take attendance, but you need to go to class as he lectures exactly what is on quizzes. Overall a great teacher and class.
This is the most stressful class I have ever been, he is very demanding on the words count and gave us a lot of writing everyday.
Fantastically easy course! August basically has us read a chapter of American Yawp every day and answer some questions taken directly from the book. There are no quizzes. The schedule is available on the first day of class and I finished all the coursework in 4 days! Easy A for a cyber class
August showed a remarkable commitment to engaging with students, valuing our perspectives and experiences. He explored a wide range of historical themes related to Queer Studies. His is focus was emphasizing critical thinking and connecting ideas. The class was phenomenal, and it linked the anti-Queer politics of today to events in history.
I heard such amazing things about Dr. August and he doesn't disappoint. His class is intense, intense topics, intense schedule (3 week summer class). He stays in constant communication with the class and responds to every email I send him. His lectures are fascinating and so important for understanding the world.
This course is not for the faint of heart. You can tell the professor is always building to better it. He has high standards and for good reason: his course is of a high caliber compared to other online courses. Take his class if you're committed to learning and bettering yourself.
One of the most commendable aspects of this course is the level of organization. On the first day of class, the professor distributed a comprehensive schedule outlining all the reading assignments and corresponding questions. I finished the entirety of the assigned work in the first 8 days of the 3 week cybersession.
This is my first Cybersession class at Ohlone. The modules are the same every day so I know exactly what I have to do: read, watch a lecture, do a discussion post. The only variation is the midterm and a quiz, but those seem simple. I like the way how everything is organized.
I heard such amazing things about Dr. August & he doesn't disappoint. His class is intense, intense topics, intense schedule (3 week summer class). He stays in communication with the class and responds to all emails I send him. His lectures are fascinating & so important for understanding the world. I'm not sure I can do another Cyber class though.
His grading does NOT make any sense and will NOT give you any feedback for the assignments. Will deduct points and when you ask him why, he will not respond. Too many requirements for a discussion post like seriously. Always has a word count for everything! I don't get why he has a good rating. This class is stressful and I regret taking it.
Dr. August is one of the best professors at Ohlone. His class is lecture heavy, so you listen and take notes. Quizzes are based on his lectures and there are assignments every few weeks. Every time I visit his office he is generous with his time and allows opportunities to make up work that I missed. I need to take more classes with him!
ASIAN AMERICAN HISTORY. Mind blowing is an understatement.
All of my classes have been online and this is the first online that actually feels like college. The professor keeps track of all activity and gives feedback based on performance. Everything is based on rubrics so his grading is clear. He has really high standards.
Expects way TOO much of his students for a GE class like seriously. Act your credit worth. There is no reason why his class has to be so difficult. You have to actually check canvas every day because he's the type to look and keep track of your time record spent in class.
The professor is clearly passionate about the subject of social justice. His class is heavy (both in the types of topics and the amount of work required). This class actually has me looking forward to reading and watching lectures because they keep teaching me more about US history. His feedback in the gradebooks and rubrics is really helpful.
No complaints really. The professor gives extra credit every other week. Course requirements are strict yet manageable since he gives the whole week to do work.
Dr. August is incredible. He noticed I wasn't doing my best because I was having some mental health problems. We talked & he was very understanding. He gave extensions from student services so I could get back on track. He really wants all of his students to do well, especially those who to talk to him & keep him informed. He's exceptionally kind.
His lectures and readings are easy to understand. He always stops in class to let you ask questions if you're not getting it. The midterm is a project with no exam, so there's less to stress about. Besides that, he likes analyzing cultural trends in class.
Yes. Just yes. Dr. August treats us like adults. Whenever I need more time or redo an assignment he agrees just by listening to me. I have responsibilities to my family and job. More people have to recognize like he does!
August is a model of academic commitment. He's knowledgeable, kind, and personable. His patience in discussing difficult concepts makes learning easier, and he makes sure we know the material before speeding through it to the next thing. I would take his class again if I could.
August is an excellent teacher. He's so lively and engaged for an online class that I wish I could have taken it in person. His modules are always engaging. Highly suggest him as a professor who will teach you a lot.
He acknowledges the challenges of the workload and respects students' lives outside of school. He gives a lot of clear guidance and rubrics. Everything is clearly laid out and easy to follow. "Easy" A so long as you follow guidelines.
Professor Samie leads a very organized class. The class is clear and easy to follow. There are robust discussions each week. He has an honest and true view of America: minorities have been systematically written out of History, and classes like this one help to correct the whitewashed History most of us are taught as children.
idk what it is w all the good reviews. I'm taking five classes and ima A student and this side class been the biggest pain. hes SO PICKY and nitpicks. annoying assignments all the time and a huge waste of time. discussion and test avg always so low because he is a hard grader. DONT take this class trust me. quizlet NOT coming clutch w this course.
Taken three classes with Dr. August. He is a wonderful professor when you actually want to learn about history. He recognizes that I want to learn, so he always gives me good grades and helps pass me along when I struggle. Assignments are weekly discussions, writing assignments every other week, midterm, final. Taking a fourth class in spring!
I have mixed feelings about this class. The professor is very competent, like a little too competent to make it an easy class. He gives challenging assignments each week. The class is extremely well-structured, making it impossible to not learn. I think taking this class with my 4 others is too much. Maybe take him when you don't have a full sched
No complaints really. The professor gives extra credit every other week. Course requirements are strict yet manageable since he gives the whole week to do work. Heavy participation.
He's really great. I was worried at the beginning of the semester. While there is a lot of work, it was manageable and he always gives extensions when I asked. I really enjoyed learning about Asia, since I didn't learn too much about it in school. Take him if you can!
Loved this class. I don't know anything about world history so I thought it would be my most difficult class this semester, but it was the only class I didn't stress over all semester. Dr. August loves the subject and makes it really easy to understand A+++++
I'm finishing my first class with Dr. August, and I'm taking another next semester. His class is so well organized, we always know what to expect, what is due, and there are no last-minute surprises. He takes so much time out of his day to talk to us and make sure we're okay, especially when we need extra time to submit work.
He is a really nice professor. He is willing to work with you if you need any help. There are no major exams in his class, just weekly assignments. Overall, great professor for a history class
Amazing professor! His lectures are always interesting and have funny memes. He sends weekly announcements about the upcoming class content and required assignments. Tests are fairly easy. Fair amount of writing required for assignments. Only thing I didn't like was that our final project was drawing-based (I didn't sign up for an art class lol)
Just wrapped up Ethnic Studies and it was straight fire! Dr. August's vibe is super chill, with everyone sharing thoughts and insights in class. It completely changed my worldview. The assignments were a breeze and he gives a lot of extra credit to make sure everyone can get an A in class.
he is an amazing professor in person with like 5-10 assignments in the semester! You will have 3 big exams and a midterm and final project. Accumulate as much extra credit as you can because that will save you from putting in a lot of time on projects. This class was educational and a joy to be in
He is amazing - super clear and organized. He breaks down tough topics so they're easy to get. You always know what's expected because he's so upfront about everything. Plus, he's really approachable if you need extra help. His classes aren't just about learning they're about understanding. Definitely one of the best profs I've had so far!
He is simply amazing as a professor.
Dr. August's class is the only one this semester I enjoyed going to. Every lecture was was interesting and made me think harder about the way I see the world and why America is the way it is. He's a lenient grader. Taking another class with him over summer.
This was the easiest class I took at Ohlone. Dr. August assigned us four Asian American novels to read, and the assignments were simple: discuss our thoughts on them. Every week, the structure was almost identical: read a section of the novel and then discuss it through a video submission or a written discussion post. Easy A.
Very charismatic and inspiring professor. His course was very easy and it is doable. I never really cared for history and oftentimes find it boring but this class felt like a breeze.
Ethnic Studies was really great, there were one assignment a week that was mostly talking about the lectures. He posts a few videos in each module to watch.
This class is a breeze. There's one assignment a week and you just have to watch a lecture to get the answers to the prompts. He also gives a lot of extra credit.
Peak millennial! His jokes are so outdated but he owns it. I loved this class because I learned things I had never really understood about Asian American history.
--insert fire emoji-- lol this guy is legit
This semester, the ETHN-115 and HIST-115 classes were combined into one. He's so funny and it's clear that he enjoys talking about what he teaches! One bad thing is that he grades super late; For example he graded something from Week 2 on Week 14. But he grades really easily. As long as you did the assignment, you will get 100%. He's very flexible!
Dr. August's organization makes all materials and assignments clear and accessible. He has a zero-tolerance AI policy, so he really promotes genuine learning and academic integrity.
The lectures are excellent and overall good professor, but the cyber session is a decent amount of work. I would recommend taking 2 cyber session classes at once, it's doable but very tiring if you're taking this course.
Don't take this professor if you don't have to. For a ge class they grade like this class matters for your degree. Each week there is a paper due about the long readings/hr+ lecture videos & don't expect 10/10 on the discussions if you don't agree with the topic. You aren't even given feedback on the assignment. just don't take august samie.
I took three courses with Prof Samie and 10/10 would reccomend. His lectures are very, very engaging and he teaches from a justice oriented mindset. This course illuminates systemic racism and other forms of systemic discrimination which he is very good at explaining.
Shocker: Prof August teaches a college class like it's college. He assigns a lecture a week plus two or three readings and then we do an assignment on the material. Everything is organized and structured clearly. The subjects he assigns are very controversial but taught from a neutral perspective.
This is for Asian American History that I took last Spring. August is literally the best professor on campus & his class was phenomenal. The class is very broad & approaches history from a non-dominant perspective, so we learned about how Asians have contributed to American society. You will learn a lot from this class & from this professor.
As a BIPOC Queer woman, I am thrilled Dr. August is was my professor and will continue teaching such an important subject at Ohlone. He is one of the only faculty at the college that made me feel seen and his class gave me the background I need to continue my social justice work in Political Science.
Last semester, I told Dr. A that I wanted to transfer to a UC so he held two in class workshops about how to succeed at college and met with me almost every week in office hours to work on transfer materials. His class gave me the confidence to continue my education knowing I could do it. His time gave me the support I needed to do it.
August's course is both challenging and rewarding. He has us fully engage with content that is left out of high school education, which adds to the perpsective we already hold from growing up here. Each week is a module that has lectures and an assignment.
Dr. August's enthusiasm shines through in each lecture. He is always accessible for assistance on email and Zoom and even social media to offer input on assignments. There was an optional midterm so he spent time talking to me and because I don't like writing he just let me skip it and double count my final presentation.
The teacher is not that bad but is way too strict with his rules. I took the class during summer and although the assignments weren't alot, I didn't really get enough time to finish. This is because I was taking more than two classes but If you are only taking one, It is a doable class. However, this class is still too strict for a GED course
This was my first history class in nearly 20 years as a returning student. I was nervous about having to memorize dates since I'm not good at it but the professor taught the course focusing on broad historical themes and eras rather than specific dates. I appreciate that the professor provided the textbook as a PDF, so there was nothing to buy.
Even though I am an psych major, Professor Samie inspires me to learn more about racial history. The material used in class is very useful for anyone seeking insight into American history and the psychology of race. I took the course online, and Professor Samie provided clear instructions. I had a positive experience.
This class is definitely hardcore in that there's a lot of reading, exams and assignments are hard to get full points on, and he expects you to be serious about it, but the content of the class is very informative and interesting and he is also very good at what he does. His lectures are amazing, he offers help and extra credit
He assigns 1-2 chapters of reading a week and lecture videos, but is an easy grader. He doesn't accept late work. He assigns reflection papers where you discuss what you've learned or any new perspectives. He does have some extra credit assignments and does require you to film yourself sometimes. He links the textbook so you don't have to buy it.
August is an incredible instructor! His passion for the subject makes each class lecture engaging and he encourages thoughtful group discussions. Everything he says and assigns challenges me to think critically about politics and life in general. He grades easy and has about one assignment every other week to do at home.
This is an easy class. August lectures a lot and his grading is easy. He gives about one assignment a week either in class or home so its not hard to keep up.
August is super passionate about Asian American history and really makes the class interesting. He's easy to talk to and super helpful if you need anything outside of class. He grades on weekly or every other week assignments, a few small quizzes, and a midterm. He is an easy grader. Definitely recommend if you want a chill but meaningful class!
I wish I had him for every class. August is the most straightforward and open teacher I've ever had. He says everything clearly and honestly without sugarcoating. There's no guesswork with him so we always know what is coming up and how to finish it with a good grade.
Dr. Samie is a great teacher. He could keep his lectures concise with lots of information. His class is organized however there is a lot of reading. Skimming is a key skill for this class.
His class looks like a lot of requirements but he grades everything based on submission, so as long as I followed directions I got As. The material is very political and can get depressing because he gets a little too real with whats happening in this country. Overall, it's a very informative class and the professor is very good.
Amazing professor! He is passionate, knowledgeable, and engaging. He gives homework every second or third week, two major exams he gives at home instead of in class, and group discussions. He genuinely cares about his students. Highly recommend!
Interesting class. Prof was nice. There was a lot of extra credit but they were on-campus activities. Take notes. You have to watch and read everything. 4 discussion boards, 8 reflective essays, 2 quizzes, and you have to write a children's book at the end.
This class surprise me because I don't like history. I only take it for GE but Professor Samie make ancient history very interesting. The class is good but, the reading is hard because there is one chapter every week. There are one assignment every week too. Midterm and final are projects, and not need too much research or studying.
He is a very passionate professor who doesn't mind a little messing around in his class. He is extremely easy to communicate with and very understanding. His grading rubric is crystal clear and he is ready to help you as long as you ask. Would definitely take again.
great dude great class. take him in person online he admits to being harsh! he had like 3 tests i think and they are all take home and open note. a few in person pop quizzes was the only thing i hated but he never even put them into the gradebook so it didnt matter i think he just wanted to scare us into doing the readings.
This class is a must, it's decolonial, relevant, and straight-up necessary. The professor keeps it real, connecting history to today's struggles against right wing oppression. His lectures challenge and unpack systems of power. If you care about justice and sanity, take this class.
I loved having Professor Samie for ethnic studies. You just have to watch his lecture videos which are very informative and engaging. I learned a lot and will likely take more of his courses.
took this class over cybersession. the professor is extremely easy on grading. as long as you watch videos and just submit a response, you get a good grade. he gives a lot of extra credit, almost a whole letter grade got me from a B to A
Great professor. Took him in cybersession and was able to easily manage the work while taking other classes. The lectures are super interesting and there are a few readings. Overall great professor. There are crazy amounts of extra credit.
His lectures are very interesting and fun to listen to, he's an incredibly easy grader (even the final video), most of the assignments are reflection essays, and he pulls perspectives from a variety of sources. He also gives so many extra credit opportunities in case you miss an assignment. The tests are also easy if you do the reading and videos.
This is such a great class! August is very informative and does an amazing job connecting historical events to what's happening in politics today - he's passionate about what he teaches, and it makes the material more engaging. I've taken a lot of ethnic studies classes before but I'm learning so much about history and race from him.
The majority of assignments are reflective essays. It is really frustrating that he doesn't give any feedback but will give you half credit without explaining why he gave you that score. Someone needs to check on this professor.
Such an interesting class! Dr. August gives one or two assignments a week mostly on videos. Easy A
ha he just input extra credit and i went from a c to A. great
One of the best classes I've taken. Dr. August is super passionate and knowledgeable, he actually cares if students are engaging. He grades everything from a rubric, so it's easy to see what he requires for a good grade. Already signed up for his Asian history for next semester
Very clear course. For a history class, he focuses on broad topics instead of dates, so it makes following along a lot easier. One assignment a week with no exams.
This class has been so illuminating and necessary for me. I've learned so much about American history and Dr. August is so knowledgeable. During the semester we had five or six at home assignments and quizzes, and a midterm and final. He takes the pressure off of grades and lets us focus on learning. More professors need to use his method!
Very easy and good. Basically gives assignments like "watch this and give your opinion."
Dr. August's class is the best I've taken. The lectures are mindblowing and thoughtful. I learned more just by listening to him than I ever expected. The grading is mainly based on the midterm and final projects, no exams tanking my grade.
Solid. There's one assignment each week - usually a reflection on the lectures and readings - plus a midterm and a final project. There was one major quiz early in the semester and seven extra credit assignments. I had almost a 100% in the class all semester.
Dr. Samie is a great person and teacher. Lots of reading, knowing how to skim and take notes is essential. Lecture slides are posted online but hard to interpret without the teacher (so attend the lectures). Having experience with research essays and timed writings is recommended. Keep up with the work and you will do great in this class.
The class is simple, usually a lecture or an activity on the readings. Take good notes! He teaches “big picture” but you still need to know some of the finer details. He's a nice grader; he threw out quizzes the majority did bad on, and he offers plenty of extra credit. He's also conversational, many days had casual discussions before the lecture
This professor is horrible avoid at all cost. Do not fall victim to the high rating. He grades papers unreasonably based on if he likes your opinions or not. He has random assignments due at 2pm. Is extremely unreasonable and does not accept late work even for partial credit. Takes of 50% on most papers for one wrong citation. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
Took this class for cyberSession. The professor posted all the assignments at once so I finished the class a week early. It's an easy class with an assignment in each lesson (4 short essays, 1 quiz, 1 midterm, and final, and there's extra credit for each assignment).
This was a really unique class. We read four books from major Asian American authors. The discussions were book club style and very meaningful. August assigned one discussion for each book, and the final was a two page opinion essay. I really enjoyed everything and appreciated the structure of the course.
very organized course. clear grading rubrics. clear syllabus. thirteen modules with lectures, readings, and assignments in each one.
I thought I'd be the first to finish this three week class but someone did it before me! It's not easy for a three week class but I learned a lot and it fits perfectly with what is happening in the news. I say take it if you have time but a short class like this is like a part time job, and I would retain more during a regular semester. Good tho
August's class is incredible. The course was clearly structured, had a manageable daily workload, and he graded everything quickly. Learned a lot from this class.
Truly one of the best classes at Ohlone! Dr. August grades everything at a high grade based on viewing his lectures. So simple, and he gives a lot of extra credit to get an A.
Dr. August is a really passionate professor, you can tell he genuinely loves the subject, and that energy makes the class more enjoyable. The main assignments are module essays. His expectations for essays are focused on watching lectures and doing readings. I definitely recommend watching the lectures and that gets a good grade in the class.
This class seriously changed how I see everything. I've always wanted the real story on race and American history, and this finally gave it to me. I missed a few assignments, but I met with August and he gave me extensions for everything. He's such an interesting person to talk to, and I hope to take another class with him.
A lot of hard work for a summer cybersession but worth taking. There was an extra credit module that took me from a C to A; really helped my gpa!
Did a cyber session for this class over summer. It had daily assignments for three weeks. Grades were easy and fast.
Dr. Samie is one of the best professors I've had. He's passionate and clear, and he is respectful. His classes are eye-opening and well structured, with essays and discussions instead of weekly quizzes. There's lots of extra credit, and he genuinely wants students to succeed. Take his class if you want to actually learn something real.
Professor August Samie is an excellent instructor at Ohlone College. He communicates clearly, supports students, and creates an engaging learning environment. His fair grading and helpful feedback encourage students to improve. He is approachable and always willing to assist outside of class. I appreciate his dedication and teaching style.
This is a really good class with a really good professor. He doesn't let submitting assignments after the deadline, but he has so much extra credit that it didn't matter. The first module he has explains what the course is, his expectations, and how to get a good grade. He makes everything very clear.
This is a great summer class—straightforward and low-stress. The professor focuses on global concepts instead of memorizing dates, which makes the material easier to follow. Weekly assignments are short, and there's extra credit to help. Manageable option for a short class.
Dr. August is very accommodating and easy to talk to. He opened the entire summer course early so I could work ahead due to travel plans. His assignments are based on his lectures, so the workload isn't too difficult. Each weekly module takes about half a day to complete.
August is a great professor! His course is organized in modules with readings, videos, and an assignment. He assigns one module a week. The topics focus on contemporary issues, so its relevant to our every day lives.
I took this class over the summer and it couldn't have gone better. Dr. August has everything laid out very clearly and graded generously. I was nervous because the class seemed to have a lot of requirements during the first week, but it turned out to be a breeze.
The easiest way to learn content is by attending in-person lectures. Take notes - it will be your lifesaver! Quizzes and projects are based on the main ideas of the lectures. Does not accept late work, but gives enough time to do assignments and offers extra credit. August is a very chill guy, it was great having discussions with him
(Cybersession) Daily 2 pm and 11:59 pm assignments. Content is organized in a very understandable way. You watch lectures, do the reading, and then do a discussion post or a reflection on the main ideas of the lecture. Content is extremely interesting, August is very approachable. You need to put in work, but there's extra credit, worth taking
Took his 8-week summer class. Weekly Sunday assignments, 2 quizzes (incl. final), some discussions, mostly reflections. Clear rubric, fair grader as long as you meet the requirements. Well-organized course. Make sure to watch his lecture videos as grading is heavily based on your views. Don't cheat or you'll regret it. No AI or plagiarism allowed.
I loved this history (!!!) class! I normally hate history but August never tested on dates or unimportant things. He only focused on thematic topics, so it was much more interesting and easier to learn. He grades everything quickly and not very hard.
August is wonderful teacher. He speaks casually in class so the history we learn is like a cohesive story instead of just random dates and locations. He is very transparent about assignments and grades.
Chill class. You get one assignment a week plus one or two lecture videos. The assignments are straightforward, and since it's basically the same style every time, the class feels really easy because you always know exactly what to do.
Honest. Transparent. Super clear. Class is straight to the point. Focuses on ethnic minorities and real history. Talks about how racist, white supremacist politicians have undermined and disenfranchised non-white communities. No sugarcoating. You learn a lot.
Super nice teacher; would definitely take another one of his classes. It was very easy. :)
Very Good Class. Simple, fun and relaxed class.
This was a very easy class because he grades easy and gives a lot of extra credit.
You have to watch all the videos that are available in this course to get participation points, if not forget about it. It feels kind of weird to know that professors can see what you click off of or on like invasive in a way so it feels uncomfortable but atleast the professor lets students know right off the bat.
Dr. August is a great guy! His class structure is consistent each week as modules and he gives the whole week to complete everything. There is one lecture and one assignment in each module.
Had him for Ethn 115, good professor overall. He's really funny and the lectures are alright. Theres a midterm project/interview style test, and a final project where you make a childrens picture book. It's not hard to get an A imo, though there arent many assignments graded, its easy to get an A on it. Would recommend
