Avoid this professor!!!
Not very good
The class is very hard, but he is actually a very good teacher. I have always hated math and have never been good at it and I got an A in his class. Do the homework and show up for class and you should be set.
The class might be good for econ. students.
great
Not business oriented enough.
Nice guy but class not useful.
Class isn't worth it if you aren't in economics. He would be GREAT for students in Economics.
challenging
About at the midpoint as a professor in the college. Should be in college of Arts & Sciences teaching econometrics.
His classes are designed for Econ students not business students. He would be great if you are interested in Econ. but otherwise avoid him.
I almost typed Econ in to the course code as he really is teaching economics.
Difficult course! But, he does take allowances for your effort!
Wow. This class is insane. The teacher is very unhelpful, claims he knows who will pass and fail a course just by looking at them. Also arrogant, claims he's a leading authority in the field and mentions his superiority every chance he gets.
Very good if you are in econ. Otherwise not very good.
Do you homework. He expects and rewards students who try.
Ability.... sniff.... whatever
**** personality. Give grades based on his personal liking not based on merit, hard work or assesment.
excellent teacher
He is totaly not a nice guy. Class lectures are irrelevant and he is very biased in your grages. if you miss one day of class, he holds it against you even if your kid is ill. He doesn't explain well, his graduate assistant is way better.
I wished I could understand what he is saying, cause I can't. He talks most of the class period and doesn't accoplish anything, when he leaves he seems mad. Few understand what he is doind, I suppose he is too smart for society.
He is very knowledgeable; likes his students to understand the material. He is good for those who really want to learn. It makes him happy, because he very passionate about one preparing themselves for PhD or work. He helped my sister to become a lawyer.
He is only useful for econ students.
This is the best teacher in TAMU-c. I am happy I didn't listen to other students who think he is hard. I now realize that these students do not study. I have an A and at least have of the class are making an A. He tells you what to study and exams are eas
This guy is a complete hypocrit. HE says that he wants you to take short cuts for exams then accused my whole class of cheating and took off a lot of points for nothing. He is aan arrogant ****.
Not very good. What does being a regents professor have to do with teaching stats?
Why doesn't he teach in Econ. like he is trained? He is a nice person but as a non-econ. major I wouldn't want to take him again.
I would suggest taking someone else who is a better teacher.
I have heard more than I want to about him being a Regents professor - educate, don't brag.
Not impressed with his willingess to help students. SHould consider retiring.
He cares about some students but watch out if you get on his bad side. Why not go back to UNT.
His class was interesting although I would have preferred to hear less about him being what ever type of TAMU-scholar he is.
By far one of the smartest professors in the school of business, sometimes he outpaces the undergraduate level in his lectures. You will learn the material, though!
good prof.
very knowledgeable about the subject matter, but has poor organization skills and lacks clarity in his teaching style
He's about as clear as a brown paper bag.
Not easy, but he'll help if you ask questions. Was a big help with my thesis. One of the nicest professors I've met.
ushekjks, thats what he sounds like. He needs to go back to africa or learn how to speak english.
Don't miss class, and come prepared!
I thought that I would like his class until I actually had him and it was more about him and what he has done than learning stats. Being a Regents prof. is fine - but PLEASE ACTUALLY TEACH.

Talks too much about himself. He's a smart guy but a poor teacher.
He is a very bright person but not much in the way of an educator.
Be ready to teach yourself. Good guy but not a good teacher for tough material.
gives great real life examples that relate to statistics
Take this class if you have a deep desire to learn. Top 100 statiticans in the nation, and most cited in the whole A&M system.
Worst professor I ever had!

Dude is kind of a hardass, but I would have to say he is a pretty good teacher. Once you get past his accent of course.
It's a tough class but he's a good teacher. I took it in the summer so that I could get it over with quickly as I heard alot of students stressing about the class over an entire semester. I made an A in the class. He was so laid back. I couldn't believe that he was the same prof that I heard so many horror stories about.

This professor is funny. He talks about food girls and life experiences. He encourages everyone to do well. His class requires you to do home work but believe its not alot that you are overwhlemed. Just take 20 minutes a week to do homework and you are good. One hint: get to know his G.As
Great teacher. Just a lot of work but it pays off because the tests are far easier than the homework. Tells a lot of stories about how to cook the food slowly. Also trys to tell a lot of jokes.
I take this class online and this is the worst professor I've ever encountered in my entire educational tenure. The text, Statistical Classnotes, he assigned is not suitable for online learning and leaves the student to do alot of guess work. He doesn't answer questions adequately regarding assignments. Don't consider taking any of his classes
He's really knowledgeable in stats, and helpful too. He'll do as many examples as you need to get the point. If you show up to class and read his textbook, you'll make an A.
He is a nice man, but has a big head. Do all his homework and answer questions in class once and a while and you will do fine.
Took online distance summer version. Awesome professor!! 1st prof. to actually call me to discuss class issues with me. Read the syllabus, & do what he says. Tests/class will require another book in addition to his workbook, work all sample problems he tells you to! Used a curve in grading. Truly cares about students learning Follow his directions.
Dr. Arize was a pretty good teaching in my opinion. Before taking the class, I had very little experience with Bus. Statistics, but after the class I had a very good understanding of what they can do for me in the future. Now in grad school, his teaching methods as well as understanding of the subject, really helped me accel in my MBA degree.
As good as it gets!! My best teacher. He advises and teaches, but doesn't take nonesense and expects responsible behavior.
He cares about his students, he has a negative attitude toward online stats, but so do I if it is dealing with any kind of math! I highly respect the man. The ones that don't like him are usually the ones that could care less about the subject.
For an online teacher, very inflexible. His posts/email responses do not answer the question asked. Does not allow the use of excel.
He makes you learn the material so that you can have a wonderful life in the future. It is encouraging that we have teachers you pay attention and want you to succeed.
This guy is a joke and very hard to understand in his rhetoric. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. No Minitab or Excel. No return of exams to see what you missed. Experienced in stats due to my profession and scored a A-. Stay away whoever says he is a good teacher is lying!! I took this online so maybe he is better in class. Try someone else.....
Required to purchase his class notes book not a text book. Prof is not helpful at all, will not give you old test back. Very hard to learn from.
Professor required us to use his very cryptic class notes which were not very helpful.
Total idiot! Truly! Has NO respect for students, NONE! MAKES you purchase this piece of crap book that he wrote (not even a real text, he is forcing us to buy something he can't get published). Does not want to give feedback on results, grades stupidly (you end up with a grade like 87.82- wtf). Trust me, seek another professor if at all possible.
I got an A, but this guy is horrible. Throw the syllabus out the window, it's useless. He is a hypocrite and reverses himself constantly. He'd rather talk about football than help anyone. He will not tell you what you did wrong on exams, or help you at all. I had 2 stat classes as an undergrad, so this class was largely remedial to me.
This was the most frustrating and complicated classes I've ever taken. Worthless syllabus and prof adds assignments last minute. The class notes are not useful for Online class and are completely incomprehensible. Test scores/answers go into black whole. Prof. give no respect and treats them like HS students. Tests took insane hours to do complete.
He is an excellent teacher, and gives his students priority.
dr arize is a great guy, and i learnt a lot in his class.
I loved his class and now i can say to sny stat "bring it on" He made the clas easy and related it to current events.
His class was very interesting. He tries to make you know the stuff by presenting it in the most comprehensive form.
He is a nice guy
I always disliked statistics classes. When i got into the class i braced my self for a boring class but it turned out to be great. He makes the class very interesting and fun to be in. He is also a very patient teacher
I had a lot of fun learning in his class
What i can say is that- When you do stat with a real pro, i guess you start thinking like a real pro.
Great guy, but a tough class. He encouraged me to do my best.
Worst academic experience of my life. In class he may be okay but online he is worthless. Does not answer questions; tests take 15+ hours to complete. His class notes are terrible and riddled with mistakes. Some students kissed up to him so much it was disgusting. I left the school because of this one guy. What a disappointment.
This would be one of the toughest classes i have ever had, he was always ready to help out
I enjoyed the class
His class was really a major challenge for me but i guess, it paid off for me cos right now my knowledge of stat is better.
He is a good teacher, i had a nice time learning statistics and i would reccommend his class for any graduate student in commerce that wants a statistics class with the quality you would get at "stanford"
I don't like mathematical stuff, but he tried to make it interesting with his illusrative pattern and humor.Im glad i am through with the class for good.He was really nice, but i still dont like statistics - too complex
I will admit, his, is really a tough class but i enjoyed most of it. He gives a lot of good advice and motivational talk, but does not tolerate nonsence.
If you listen in class, ask questions and do all the take home exercises, you would be fine. He is a very simple guy.
This guy sucks if you take him you will be upset. All te posts that praise him are false contact other TAMU-C students that have taken him in the past for the truth. His Ego is so big I think he probably makes his assistants post good things. If you dont trust me take the class and enjoy!!
What i liked the mos t about his class was mainly his friendly approach to us.
This is one of the toughest classes i have ever taken. I barely made it. He told some interesting stories in class but when it could down to business it wasn't funny. I'm glad i made it.
Excellent teacher; understands the material; If you want to learn he is the guy to learn from. Most importantly, very kind.
An interesting class, it was easy for me cos i had done stat before. dr A. made it fun
Not any good at statistics, he was kinda nice. Convinced me to redo the class, offering to go a step further in helping me understand the very complex areas
He has his principles but if you stick to the principles for for class i dont think you will have problem. He doesnt believe in spoon feeding graduate students.
His class in the last year wasnt bad at all, i liked it. I also like him because he tell us stuff that motivates us to be ambitious.
I liked dr arizes class, it wasn't as tough as i heard. I was advised not to do his online class so i chose the in class section, it wasn't bad at all.
His class is a very good class. I believe only the strong can stand it, i almost made an A, but i like his teaching style, he makes it interesting.
Obviously, one of the best professors in commerce. He is very good at stat, and tries to push to be equally as good
A very nice man i did a class with him late las t year and i liked his teaching style. Its a lot better than what i had to deal with in my undergrad
He is very motivational in his teaching approach. I was encouraged to work harder
I like this professor, he is a nice guy
I liked his class, learnt a lot.
One of the best i have encountered in statistics. He was also very accesible and reasonable. I got to like statistics more and he sort of makes you see the relevance of statistics.
A very nice professor
He has a very strong personality that could be miss understood at times. I liked his class.
i enjoyed dr arizes class it was a little difficult but i did alright
If their is anyway you would classify Dr. Arizes advanced stat class, it would be "interesting". I enjoyed it partly also cos i like stat.
Doc was a very nice guy, actually got to know about him before i took his class. He is very nice
did alright in his, i would recommend you do his class if you want to know a little more in statistics. He shows you the application of every concept
The was complex, but he was very supportive
Excellent professor. I have enjoyed his class. Made stats easy to learn. He helps you if you show that you are trying. Participate in class as much as you can.
I enjoyed every class except the multiple regression aspect
It's amazing how most of these comments look they are being typed by the teaching assistants. The class wasn't too hard, it was unorganized and the textbook is confusing. All the information you need is in the book, you just need to pay attention and not expect to be spoon fed. Because the text book is not ideal, ask questions!
He is an excellent professor
I would like to say his class was very good
He is a very nice professor. He also gives a lot of good advice during his class.
He is a gentleman that is always ready to go the extra mile to help in class.
This guy is a joke trust me stay away all of the assistants are writing the one line reviews. He is full of himself and will not let you see what you missed on exams. Trust me stay away!! If not good luck..
I have taken his class and have not seen anything wrong with his methods. I like his method, cos he makes stat interesting.
He is political. He is very rude and arrogant too. I did not take his class because he refused to let me sit in it! The department head at that time tried to ask him but he refused the department head! By Universit rules I could sit in his calss as I had an incopmplete in other stats class. But he would not budge. Very rude man, unpleasant to deal.
His graduate assistants seem to have forgotten for some months to write glorious remarks in his favor. But he was rude and unpleasant to deal with. Kind of bordering ruthlessness. He didnt care if request came from head of department!
He is the man. The students have to study the lessons first before come to class. I think this class is advance but helpful for all. I love his class.
He is not student friendly. I ound him arrogant, and biased. He is into projecting and believing in false images.
The worst teacher I have taken at A&M. His book was horrible mistakes everywhere, and not easy to follow. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER UNLESS YOU LIKE TEACHING YOURSELF. I paid him money to teach me, not for me to teach myself. You never get to see what you got wrong on test, so you never get to learn from your mistakes. NO ONE SHOULD TAKE THIS TEACHER
Arrogant, rude. Probabably top ten arrogant, rude man. This university is not Texas A@m but East Texas State or East Texas State.
Graduated with MBA already and wish I would have discovered this site. Dr. Arize was the worst I took online class and his notes were written by a 4 year old. Stay away most other instructors online were great. Good luck Choose someone else this guy is a JOKE!!!
As what others have already said, Prof Arize doesn't teach, at least not in his online class. I realize this is a graduate class that I took, but that doesn't mean that I am not paying the University for someone to teach me Business Statistics. If you can, choose someone else, or buy a good stats book and teach yourself.
Does not respond to students well.
He doesn't teach. You buy his $75 dollar book and teach yourself. I had to drop before i failed.
WORST professor ever, very rude, teaches nothing and will not respond to any questions (I sent him 4 emails over the course of 3 weeks and he still has never responded. His exams were all about 18 pages long and you don?t get them back so you have no idea what you did right or wrong. Very standoffish and arrogant, you will learn nothing.
Dr. Arize follows and uses his own text book extensively! His tests are difficult and take a long time to complete. The tests took 8 hrs, 10 hrs, and 10 hrs each respectively to complete. I do think that his method is effective and his text book is clear.
You cant call this guy a professor because that would imply that he actually taught something. His approach is to make you buy his book and then teach yourself. He has ZERO people skills and truly cares less about his students. The only communication all semester will be from his assistants.
He graduate from a crappy school - University of Central arkansas. Why do you expect he is going to be a good teacher? He has no people skills at all. You buy his book and you study yourself and then you take his three exams - 8 hours, 8 hour, and 10 hours exams! Why waste money by taking him, teach yourself and then taking so called exams?
Stay away. Basically a self taught course. He makes you buy his book which is horrible and does not clearly walk you through problems. If you enjoy self study only with no professor involvement then this guy is for you. Long exams, 3 total. They take about 10 hours each.
He is a nice guy. Tries to be funny in class but sometimes fails. lol. You must attend class or you will not pass. Make sure you do every homework assignment and take your time on the tests and you will get an A. He also wrote his own textbook, so it's cheap in the store.
I did not find him to be a "nice guy" like the previous student said. In real life experience, I found him to be really arrogant, self centered, selfish person who did not care one bit about the student. Department head "requested" him to have me complete an "incomplete" stats course in his class. This man plainly refused!!! with no reason at all!!
I took him last semester, he is very arrogant and self centered, he was always late to class and did not value the students time. He also made his GA's pretty much do everything, its like they were at his feet for everything from even grabbing his Pepsi. He really has an attitude problem with no people skills. I would not recommend him at all.
The worst professor I have had in over 180 hours of college classes. He writes his own book (you must buy), which is terrible. The organization of the book is very difficult to follow. I reverted back to my undergrad Stats books... He does not effectively respond to questions. You basically buy the book, read the book, and take the test...
Bad, very bad. I've come to the conclusion that the only reason he works as a professor is because he finds some twisted joy in making students miserable.
I would not recommend this professor to my worst enemy. He is abrasive and unprofessional. He told me that I earned my BBA from a TX AM University that robbed me of my money and did not teach me anything. He denied these comments to the department chair when I reported him. He is abusive and encouraged me to fail and drop his class many times.
Took class Spring '10 and received an A. You must review the manual thoroughly and if you listen to his recorded lectures you should be able to obtain an A. My experience was that he was helpful in explaining class problems presented by the students through the virtual class lounge - other students also assisted with problem explanations.
Summer II Online '10 - Stay clear away from this guy. He failed to provide a grade for the final exam that took 3 days to finish. Nobody got a final test grade & no explanation for the reason. Poor communication. Teaching Assistant did all the grading & answered all questions. He uses his own written text, which is horribly written and costs $89.
Amazingly abysmal instructor. He may know the material, but he's useless if you're trying to learn it. Better suited to a consulting firm or anything that doesn't involve interaction with others. The textbook (written by him) is a joke for instructional purposes. It was little more than a self-study course.
Worst professor ever. He gave extra credit for showing receipt for buying his textbook. Clearly only interested in the money. After looking through ratings I find it interesting that there are multiple ratings around the same times that have the same words misspelled and use language in the same manner. Are his assistants writing reviews? Run away.
This professor does not grade, the assistants do all the work. You don't get the test back so you don't know what was wrong. Very difficult.
What a waste of money! No "teaching", all "reading the book (self-published) and taking incredibly lengthy (12+ hr) tests". Asked for project to be returned before the end of the semester, so I could determine what my grade would be, and was denied. So, it will be a surprise! Might have been an interesting class if he actually taught it.
A very difficult class, got off to a slow start (my fault). Got a C on the mid-term. The final was very difficult and the formulas were different then what was in the book. He had two live classes that were difficult to understand and wondered al over the place. This is not a class to take during the summer perhaps over a longer it would be bette
Very difficult, very time consuming, stressful. With that said, get a jump on the class and you can get an A. Gives extra credit and uses his own book, even to the point where some of the exam answers are directly from the book. However, take a break and you may never catch up. This was an online course! Very Difficult!!!!! Uses his own book
Worst instructor and class I have experienced. Simply terrible. The book is full of spelling format and grammar errors. The class is run by Grad Students who are still learning English. Terrible.
Worst instructor ever. Incomprehensible style, irrelevant work. Be prepared to spend HOURS hand writing formulas. Excel is NOT permitted for most of the class. Terrible.
I read most of the 150+ posts on this prof. Clearly the positives where written by his GAs. RUN FAR AWAY from this professor. Worst class experience ever!
Not worth it! You must teach yourself. Exam take an ENTIRE weekend to complete -- leaves no time for family or other classes. Project is given with no notice and given 3 days to complete.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! I can't believe there are any positive remarks on here. You'll have to pay $130 for a 'textbook' he wrote, which is just a ream of copy paper littered with typos and inconsistencies. Plan to spend at least 12 hours on each of the exams and know that you won't see what you missed on the test. Absolutely terrible!!!!
This course demands that the student be very involved with the book put out by the instructor. If you do that, you will get a good grade. The only disagreement I have is that he will NOT return prior tests, papers so that you can learn by your mistakes. He did make the comprehensive to only cover the last five chapters so that was very helpful!
I took this class during the 2nd summer session. It wasn't too hard, but the professor was horrible - the worst professor I have had so far. He was not helpful at all and barely did any teaching. The class live sessions were pointless and inconsistent, as well as the class notebook he had us buy. If you can help it, please avoid his class!
Terrible... This professor was no help, if you email him he rarely got back to you. The lectures were pointless, just bragging about himself and the book he wrote. Overall worst prof I've had at this school and graduating next month. AVOID HIM!
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had. He forces you to purchase his "book" by putting questions from it on the test. No contact. No teaching. He uses known methods, but renames them and calls them his own (see Q-Method). No wonder the other professor's course filled up so quickly. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PROFESSOR!!
This professor has 0 communication with his students. He has "assistants" running the class. They send the emails for him and post grades. He does not teach at all. You are forced to purchase his book. If you don't, you fail the exams because he uses questions from his book on the exam.
I read all the horrible reviews so I was concerned. Statistics is also a challenge for me so I was really concerned. However, do the assigned problems, thoroughly read the book and attend all lectures and you can get an A like I did. It's a graduate level class, its supposed to be challenging.
Tests are insane, 20 pages long, he gives you 3 days to do them but I'm sorry I dont have the time.
Pre-recorded lectures are very good. The class notes are crucial to passing the class. Additional stats book is not needed. Exams are take-home and take many hours, but they follow the class notes very closely. It's almost like being forced to work a bunch of homework and that's your exam. I learned more this way personally. Made an A. Good prof.
Absolutely Horrible. His book, which he forces you to buy, is full of typos. He uses different methods than everyone else, gives them different names. His problems and assignments are ill conceived and full of errors, then he refuses to fix grades. He makes you show all of your work on tests which takes absolutely forever even on easy problems.
Professor Arize is very clear about the length of the exams but if you follow his material, you will get and A.
Worst on-line experience I've had in my entire academic career. Start with a heavy accent, add unending incessant rambling and perpetual senseless pratter. Pre-heat the laptop. Blend the ingredients and simmer for several hours while attempting to remain awake and focused. Garnish with crushed caffeine. Need help? Try a different recipe and chef.
Unfortunately with this class, there are very limited options with choice of professor. Class is very intense. He assigns two tests which are worth a big chunk of your grade. They take up the entire weekend, so don't plan anything. The price of his "book" keeps going up. I bought mine for almost $200 with shipping and tax. Lectures are very long
At first, I was very skeptical about the professor because his class wasn't filled up as quickly as others were and the review I read about him weren't so good. I also didn't like being compelled to buy textbooks. I am glad I took his class. If you need A, buy his book, practice. It is now my manual for any tough statistical questions I may face.
As a graduate student, i expect classes to be challenging. However, when an Exam takes a whole weekend to do, when an average exam should take 3 to 4 hours. its excessive and unnecessary. He also grades these harshly. Class lectures are no help. You are forced to buy his book in order to even have a chance to pass. Worst class I had so far.
Insanely difficult class, and he literally writes the book. The book I think changes each semester (IE Fall 2015), judging from people who were emailing "Can you give me the questions for the assignment" because they had the wrong book. He changes the book so he makes more $$. A test by him literally takes all weekend to do.
Graduated in 2013. Dr. Arize was very clear on statistics by progressing from simple computations to full throttle statistics. Not only do we punch numbers, he addresses the need to critically think about what the numbers tie to. I am in tax now, and I am constantly using statistical sampling strata to increase savings in an efficient manner.
Avoid this professor at all costs. He gives no feedback to tests, no curve, no extra credit. Tests take all weekend, no book and the book you do use? He wrote and it is nothing but equations, nothing else of use. This is the worst teacher I have ever had.
Good professor. STUDY his textbook and you'll make A's on the exams like I did. Yes, the exams take a long time, but that's what you get with open book exams. Net profits from his book sales go into a business scholarship fund which I thought was nice (read the syllabus). Professor gave good examples in class along with good reviews for exam prep.
Hear me out. I was skeptical after reading Dr. Arize's reviews. However, if you work the problems in the book ($188 but helpful and required to complete exams), and listen to his lectures, you will get an A. He is actually funny and wants you to succeed - no tricks. MBA students are supposed to work hard so if you want it, work for it!
Not an easy course if you miss lectures and don't go over his uploaded PowerPoint presentations. You need to make time to read and practice course material. If you that you will get an A. Hate how people complain he doesn't give extra credit. Pretty straight forward exams and if you do what you're suppose to you will get an A.
Dr. Arize is knowledge about the subject matter but lectures exceeded two hours (ex. 7-10 PM). It is clear he cares about his students. Final 50% of grade, mid-term 30% and project/paper 20% of grade. Exams take significant (10 hours) time, especially if it has been a while since last stat class
Find a Different Professor. Seriously. First, you MUST buy the current version of his book in order to pass. The exams take 8-10 hours to complete and some of the questions you have to pull out of the book. Also, his syllabus and other instructions are terrible and if you ask for clarification, you'll hear back from a TA with minimal instruction.
I'll admit that buying such an expensive book is annoying, and the tests are long and difficult, but other than that it's not that bad. They key is practice. That's all it takes. Just take the time to practice and you'll get a good grade on the exams.
Dr. Arize is very knowledgable about statistics. Just ask him. He is the best professor at Texas AMUC. Just as him. He is so knowledgable that he makes up his own formulas that others do not use. Thats fine if you already know the original formulas but not so much if you do not. His lectures are long, but what is annoying is he is late every class.
His video lectures are horribly slow going and his examples are not relevant, making it difficult to grasp the concept or see real work value in the subject. He wrote the text, so you can't even depend on the text to learn the material. I'm taking his course online, having a real text would have helped b/c his lectures don't.
For an online class he was excellent. It was hard and required practice and homework but recorded lectures and class live sessions helped a ton! Work the problems he assigns and take notes while you watch the lectures and the tests reflect it.
Be prepared to set aside some time every weekend to study. The test are long. They usually do exceed 8 hours (take home). But note, the tests are NOT hard if you study. You just need to be extremely detailed in your answers (on the test); showing step by step how you came to your conclusion. Just study and pay attention. You will do fine.
Too bad there werent other negative tags to select above. AVOID AVOID AVOID this professor at all costs. Like the other comments I agree, he is the absolute WORST professor Ive ever had. He doesnt answer emails, his minion TAs are RUDE, the book is self written and ream bound and is inconsistent. Hard to believe that he is allowed to teach.
This is the worst class I've had for my MBA. The tests are unreasonably long (15 hours) and you have one weekend to complete. Have a job or kids? Think again. There are many ways to test knowledge. The stress from these tests caused heart palpitations. The TAs accused the students of cheating for asking for clarification. Don't walk, run.
He writes his own textbook for the class which can be difficult to understand if you do not watch the ClassLive lectures. There are three exams, a journal article and a homework assignment. If you do the practice problems in the book you will do fine on the tests. It was a difficult class but definitely passable if you try.
This was the worst class I have taken at TAMUC. The professor's lectures were incoherent, scattered, and hard to understand; i ended up teaching myself using the book. I still got an A in the class, but i would suggest avoiding this professor if you can. I can't fathom why others have rated this professor highly. Baffles me. 15 hour tests.
This professor requires his own 'class notes' instead of a textboox and charges $250 for material that is plagiarized from actual textbooks. His lectures are incomprehensible. Tests are ridiculously long, requiring 10 hours. And when students ask for clarification on something, he accuses them of cheating. Texas A&M needs to get rid of this guy.
The class is very useful and well taught
Paraphrased quotes from Dr. Arize: "A student that focuses on their work will be successful and can make a lot of money. Sitting around and flipping CNN, that is simply entertainment, studying creates a transformation" "This weekend, if Sally or John, or Susie say to you, oh, there is something fun and wonderful to do, tell them to go to hell"
I enjoyed this class. Professor Arize offers a challenging class and what is expected of graduate level courses. Many of the comments are accurate, exams do take the weekend, you'll need to buy the course book (warning: don't buy on Amazon, questions change each semester), and weekly lectures are long (he spends time teaching). You'll learn a lot.
Professor Arize provided online lectures and usually homework was assigned right afterwards. His tests are pretty long and is assigned to be done over the course of the weekend. The book is an absolute must in my opinion to pass his course. Definitely a tough course but as long as you set time aside to put in the work, you will be fine. Good luck!
Is 3rd most published in A&M-System. His journal is the "book" requirement ($175.00). He does have a much simpler formula. But, I cannot understand what he is saying! And, he always get's off topic, and ask, where was I, oh yea. He acts crazy (ok with me) as long as I learn but his methodology is scattered. THIS IS A SELF TAUGHT STATISTICS COURSE
This man is horrible! If TAMUC really valued the students perception, Dr. Arize SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING THIS CLASS! He wrote the book required (200$)-never used it. Tests posted Fri due Mon (IT TAKES AT LEAST 16HOURS FOR EACH TEST FOR 20+ QUESTIONS). Lectures are pointless (erratic topic jumping, heavy accent). Very ARROGANT. TAs run the class!
Hes just not good at teaching or even communicating. Usually will not answer questions and will accuse you of not studying if you do. Has unique ways of conducting different equations but cannot communicate them well. I learned the material from the book before class and left the class more confused then when i started. 10 hour take home tests.
This was my most difficult class to date. He is fair and very intelligent but is hard to understand at times and expectations on the journal project were a bit unclear. Getting an A in this class is definitely possible but you will have to work hard for it. I got an A on each exam but they took me 10-17 hours to finish. The book is a must to pass.
Very difficult professor that requires a book pulbished by him to pass the class ($200 and can't buy used, as he has different versions/editions). Said book uses formulas unconventionally from the norm, and his live lectures are incoherent, can't articulate himself properly. Very TA dependent, which is ok but they esentially run his class for him.
the most difficult professor, does't answer questions in the class live. spent $200 on textbook for a 4 week summer class. skipped most of the stuff from the book and exams were full fledged even it was summer. spent 15-20 hours on each homework/exam he doesn't explain your score. felt like a high school teacher came to teach graduate level course.
Not a good professor at all. Makes you buy his book (about $200), which he changes every semester and is required becasue his test questions are in it. Tests are unnecessarily long and complex, especially for a summer online course. Does not communicate well at all and is almost 100% dependant on his "assistant". Avoid if possible.
This will be an unpopular opinion reading the rest of the reviews. Buy the book, start on page one and work through the problems. By the time you finish the problems you should have a base knowledge of how to complete the work. The lectures are long and he hand walks you through questions that are on the test. Overall this class was not that hard
Incredible professor, don't let other's deter you. Does take a lot of effort. Good: cares for his students, very knowledgeable, fair, has TA's that reply quickly, great book. Bad: Long-winded lectures can be hard to follow (min 1.5hrs), but are key to pass, three tests take a long time to complete (4hrs prepared). Bottom line: tough, worth it.
I was a bit afraid of taking ECO578 when I first read some of the comments about Dr. Arize. However, it was honestly one of the best university class I've ever taken. I learned to love stats! Dr. Arize's textbook is amazing. He also takes the time to go over the material during class. His exams are fair and he does want you to succeed! Great prof!
Dr. Arize's textbook is amazing and a must have. This is one of the best courses I have taken so far. Tests are challenging but if you have done your homework you will be fine. I really enjoyed the lectures and the amount of class participation.
The professor extorts students into purchasing his 'notes' from the bookstore each semester to line his own pocket and those of the university. This is unethical behavior and should be prohibited.
This is a tough course, certainly not made any easier by the fact that you are forced to use only his unconventional methods if you want credit for your work. Clear guidelines are not given for any written assignments, and all of his emails and responses come from assistants, not the professor. 10/10 would NOT take him again.
I never thought a professor could make me hate math, but here we are. I *love* Statistics, yet Arize has decided that the traditional methods taught in all other courses were subpar, so if you answer all questions correctly and traditionally, you'll barely pass because you didn't use his convoluted methods he described in his *dragging* lectures.
Avoid taking this professor if at all possible. Pedantic to a fault with his grading and makes a relatively rudimentary statistics course as laborious as possible. He intentionally make tests take 17 hours and above so that it will consume the majority of the weekend, and is not at all receptive to student feedback. Hed rather pontificate.
From undergrad and two graduate degrees this was my worst class. TA does all the work, ask prof a question and he has to ask the TA for the answer. He extorts students into buying his textbook which is poor quality with mistakes throughout and the only thing that ever changes is the cover. Had to show receipt for class credit. Ridiculous.
In short, he has his own ill conceived book with no answer key. Does not answer e-mails. Is a male chauvinist pig with delusions of grandeur. Has the most irrelevant and off subject examples in his lecture. Way too much conversation about his personal life and relationship with his wife. Will skip your text message in chat if your not a pretty girl
Worst professor by far. Expensive, typo-filled, required "textbook". Professor goes off on creepy tangents for 20+ mins every lecture. Lectures are a must to attend as participation could be the difference of a letter grade. Pompous. Had no other choice for class. You will be working on this class for hours every single night the whole semester.
Summer course- 2 HW & 2 Exams which are difficult. You can find many answers in your book, so be very familiar with your book. Work the problems in the book he identifies in lectures and you will pass. Very difficult to know expectations. HW asks specific calculation questions, but his expectation is that you elaborate your thought process.
TAKE DURING THE SUMMER. Awful class, might as well get it over with in 4 weeks instead of 16. It goes fast, but it's doable if you spend some time every day on it. During the summer, we had 2 homeworks (worth 10% each), a midterm (30%), & a final (50%). Some material on the first exam wasn't even covered until later chapters. Assistants are rude.
Really hard to work hard to learn somewhere else. He doesNOT respond to emails. DoesNOT give clear instructions that are the same in all the places. The email may give instructions in one form and D2L in another. Mistakes were made on his part & it made it that much harder for students. Serious lack of communication from the professor & assistances
Dr. Arize does NOT have any teaching ability. He smacks on something while he is talking. I could barely understand anything he was ever talking about. He skips from one page to pages ahead without telling you where he is so you can follow along. I would not recommend him as a professor for anyone.
I am doing my MBA at Commerce and completed my BBA at Commerce as well and Professor Arize is by far the worst teacher I have ever been forced to interact with. The book is his own creation and it is terrible. His lectures are somehow worse both slow and hard to follow at the same time. My suggestion, learn statistics yourself because he's useless.
BY FAR, worst professor ever. He may be accomplished in his field, but DOES NOT make him qualified to teach. In short: poor communication, teaching style sucks, poorly written book, but required, SUPER arrogant, long chaotic lectures. Tips: check email daily, allow 12-18 hrs for tests (seriously). prepare to self teach.
The material itself isn't hard. What is ridiculous is the unnecessary manual way he makes students work problems resulting in exams taking a full day. I have never experienced a professor so arrogant and rude. Additionally, a couple of clearly marked questions on my exams were incorrectly graded which I pointed out and required a grade adjustment.
Live lectures are a train wreck. He can not stay on topic and fails to relate his stories back to the material. Refuses to teach anything stating that as grad students you should already know. The book he requires is his own "notes" and does not help with learning any of the material. Would never recommend taking him and avoid his courses.
I'm sure Dr. Arize is a great teacher in person, but don't take his online class.
Do not take this professor an absolute joke
You never knew what you were gonna get with Dr. Arize. Every day his lectures were solely based on his moods but you could always count on his inability to stay on topic. If you participate in class, he will favor your success and education. Buy his textbook!! So much of what you are assigned can be found word for word in his textbook.
Be self-motivated if you're taking his online class. It's not for those needing external motivation, you may hear from him four times in the semester. Class recordings are inaudible. I would suggest using Khan academy or YouTube and his power points fill in gaps in understanding. Challenging class as it is genuinely self taught.
Great class, I thought it was an Economics class but it's really a Statistics class, but pretty easy since I took College Statistics in high school. He didn't really grade hard. Always homework he went over was in his Zoom's. Zoom's are long but worth it because the questions to the homework are always on there. I will take more of his classes.
Class is easy. As long as you pay attention and stay up to date with the criteria, it should be a breeze. Professor grades easy, and is easy to work with.
If you participate and actually do your work then you should be fine. The professor is always available if you need help.
I took online Eco-302 for Spring 2023.He teaches problems using different available formulas and explains the solutions using each formula in detail. He really does care about his students. After each homework and assignment is graded, he will discuss the solutions so that we will know what are our mistakes.Easy class ever....Best Professor ever!!!
He's a very good professor, very accessible outside of class, Cares a lot about his students. Attendance is not mandatory but I'd recommend attending if you have time. Doesn't give homework. Just an exam, midterm and an excel. The level of difficulty of his class is depending on you and the effort you want to put in.
