Really great professor for this class. You do have to attend class(not because he takes attendance) because everything is from his lecture. He does not use the book(save money). Plus he knows it is a required couse and will help you to get an A if you try.
DR. Nelson is very nice. You don't have to buy the book. He might just be confusing at times, but if you let him know he'll explain again.

Funny teacher, Put some effort and you can get an A.
Awesome guy. One of my favorite teachers. Is extremely nice as long as your not annoying. I attended all his classes and got As on the tests. Its all from the notes. No outside of the classroom work compared to other ECO302 classes. He gives out problem sets but doesnt really grade them. I would DEFINATELY recommend him.
very annoying accent. makes everything so much more complicated than it really is with all his problems on the board.
Good teacher, cool guy, awesome grading curve makes it impossible to fail. Easy to do very well on all the tests, too. Nice guy if ur not an annoying person, then he'll crush you
Professor is slightly hard to understand, and the class is boring. It is good to see him during office hours, but even then he does not help you too much. There is a large grading scale curve which helps, but his tests are difficult. Overall, I do not recommend his class. P.S. He loves his coffee!

Great professor
take night class, get on his good side, make sure the class doesn't piss him off. he gives different tests to different classes depending on how much he likes the class. awsome guy, funny, smart, and you can learn alot. NELSON IS THE MAN!
Nelson is the MAN! Defintely take his 3 hour class once a week and joke around with him. If he likes your class, your tests will be easier and he will help you more on them. Do the problem sets on time and problems in the book because similar ones appear on the tests.
very good
great!!!!! must take if you do not anything about econ. I got a 72 on the first test then made sure to do all the practice problems and then i failed the final but i still got a b+......gotta taKE HIM HES GREAT
Horrible, you dont learn. Gives tests and problem sets on what he doesnt teach. expects you to know problem-solving w/o going over logic in class or even giving answers to book problems. Don't listen to other reviewers. I'm sure you can find a better eco prof. I'm getting an A but didnt learn a thing.
Although microeconomics isn't a difficult subject, he tries to make it as tricky as possible. However, he is a nice guy and willing to help. I got a B on both tests, and somehow ended up with an A in the class, which I think was due to the fact that I attended office hours so frequently.
Teaches from powerpoints that he posts on Blackboard. The coursematter can be a bit confusing at times but he's a good teacher. Posts review sheets before exams
This professor is terrible. He treats his class as if it were a joke. He will let you know what each assignment entitles the day before it is due. The final was on material that the textbook did not cover and he never went over in class. He is not available to students and he even admits he doesn't care about the class. Avoid if you can.
Best professor ever... Very helpfull. Knows the material very well. Very fun class. Highly recomended.
Dude is always stoned all he talks about is pot he's a terrible teacher and shows no interest in his class. He's pretty easy though and an overall nice dude you won't hate him but you won't learn sh*t
While some of his problems can be a little tricky, the tests are easy as along as you do the problem sets and pay attention in class. He's a really nice guy and willing to help and does his best to make class entertaining. It was my easiest A at UM, and I would recommend him.
very boring class/hard to pay attention to
Great teacher, easy class. Grading consists of two homework assignments (20%) a midterm (40%) and a final (40%). Tests are not cumulative and not hard.
He is the best professor I've ever had. His classes is clear and easy. His PPT is clear as well. I got 93 at his exam. He will review before the test. 5handouts(HW) in a semester, which are easy and can find out in his PPT. Study his handout and ppt, you will get great grade on ECO 211. I really want take his eco212 next semester.
Has somewhat of an accent, definitely understandable. Talks about pot a lot, like every class. Good guy and likes to joke around, get on his good side. I missed about half of the classes and still ended up with an A...he knows it a mandatory class and makes it as painless as possible. Take if open for an easy grade.
Prof Nelson is great! Easy class, his problem sets ARE the test. TAKE HIM!
Professor Nelson is a really good teacher. He is very funny and his clases are very interesting. The final for this class is very hard, but he curves.
Took him based on earlier reviews & wish I hadn't. Puts very little effort into teaching the class. Reads directly off the power points. I waste my time attending his class when I could get the same info by staying home and reading the book/power points. Easy to get a high grade from the way he curves the grading system - 80 and above is a B
If you come to class he will be nice to you, and you can tell he gets aggravated with the people who don't show up. The test are really easy, just study his power points. He goes through the material slowly, and you never get through everything he has listed on the syllabus. And he wont test on anything he didn't present to you in class.
I hated Nelson. He hates it when a student argues with him and dislikes interruptions from cell phones, etc. His tests are by the book and his actual classes were a waste of my time. Avoid taking him
HIS PROBLEM SETS ARE THE TEST. TAKE HIM!
Dude is great. Doesn't teach much but it's easy to get a good grade, his tests are literally the problem sets. Go to class because he'll like you and drop into office hours once or twice just for the hell of it. Talks about weed a lot. Chill dude, easy A. Took him for 211 and 212
Has the best accent I've ever heard! Could listen to him speak all day! Class is easy, kinda funny! Tests are exactly like the problem sets! Hard to do poorly!
This guy is honestly one of the worst professors I have ever had. He assigned a major project last minute and told us at 9:30pm the night before that our project would be due the next day. Terrible teacher, unorganized, boring, bad at explaining concepts. Problem sets are different than the test, which he doesn't review for. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
He is helpful, nice and the best professor ever.
Thinks he's teaching math class with advanced calculus and logarithm derivations. Makes you do tedious derivations of formulas for no reason. The rest of class you learn nothing. Difficult for no reason and boring. Also, first half of the class is insanely easy and second half is impossible. Second half consists of 80% of the total info covered.
Professor Nelson is very helpful outside of class in helping students understand the material. The material presented in class is fairly straightforward. Although I rarely showed up to class, I found this class to be very entertaining. If you want an easy A, take this class. For your GPA's sake, you will not regret it.
The material is well presented. Provides detailed answer keys to the problem set. You have to study it. The second section of the course is more difficult. But, he is helpful in office hrs and outside of class. There is class presentation from a set of interesting topics. I learned a lot. Great and friendly professor. But, you have to study.
He's a super chill guy, who loves to talk about weed. He presents the material in a manner that is easily comprehendible. However, you will have to do most of the studying on your own. His exams aren't MC, so it's crucial for you to memorize the formulas. Honestly, if you memorize the formulas you'll do well. I'd recommend him! Simply B, the least.
Hilarious guy, great accent. Teaches very slowly very easy to understand. Tests very predictable and doable
He seemed to not really be focused on the material he was given to teach. He gives 2 tests and 2 problem sets. The thing is the the first and second test were vastly different formats. Vague questions are asked on both the test and in class. He's funny but not all there. And he hates when you text.
If you do all the problem sets that is given, you will do well on the test. I barely go to class and does all his problem sets and also look at the answers he posted and did very well on his test.
Very easy class, attendance not mandatory, notes are online. A couple 3 problem rlly easy hw assignments. Talks a lot about economics and finance but not rlly on the stuff he tests on.
Great Teacher, No homework, funny!
Minimal work, tough tests, powerpoints are all online. Lectures are long because he goes off on tangents but he is quite knowledgeable in economics and pretty funny. I really enjoyed his class.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. I am an Econ major, and I have learned absolutely nothing in this class. He is all over the place. Sends out review sheets the night before the exam, with wrong answers. Emails after class started saying that he is going to miss class. Does not explain anything. I DO NOT recommend taking him.
Awesome professor. I really enjoyed taking him, and I thought he was very good at explaining things to us. He also went out of his way to meet after class and explain anything to anyone. I would take him for 302 100% if he is available. Great guy to - you will learn a lot of real world stuff!
Avoid this teacher. He is a horrible teacher that reads directly off the powerpoint. He doesn't know how to explain the material. His tests are impossible and are on stuff he doesn't even teach. Nelson is a horrible teacher I do not suggest you take him.
If you want an semi-easy A take this class. There are two tests and two problem sets (only about 3 questions, easy grading). His lectures are very boring and he just follows the powerpoints (he posts these online & attendance isn't mandatory). If you feel confident in Macro it is really not necessary to attend class. He's alright, nothing special.
This guy is terrible. Rambles for the whole class period off topic. When he decides to be on topic he reads from the slide in a droning voice, but eventually leads off topic which just confuses you. Only 2 homeworks and 2 exams That are very short and easy. If you're forced to take this class better to just study on your own and skip his lectures.
Really cool and funny guy. Didn't learn one thing. No one goes to class for that reason. He can't teach and just reads of powerpoints. He even started writing his own notes to force people to come to class and that didn't work either. There's a solid curve, HW and a group project (which was a diaster). I would take again b/c easy B+/A- for no work.
Professor Nelson doesn't take attendance and you can do pretty well on Exams if you do the homework. Your grade only comes from Homework and 2 exams. He's a good teacher and thouroughly explains all the material. You HAVE to study for exams of you wont get a good grade. He does curve the mid-term.
to do well on his exams, do the practice problems he assigns and the end of chapter questions on mindtap. His final exam was litterly the end of chapter exam questions. Study those and just skim through his powerpoints the book isnt needed. The first exam had 3 chapters but the last one had like 7 so study a little bit each week. do this for an A
Attendance isn't mandatory, homework is easy, lectures arn't mandatory. He knows the most out of everyone I know about monetary policy. He would probably be better working for the Federal Govt in the Treasury or FDIC/similar. If you show up to class daily and take notes, automatic A. If you go to half the classes, you will struggle for a B(Like me)
Nelson is a great guy but doesn't inspire or have quality teaching skills. He reads off powerpoints and has a daily tangent about Trump and the American political system. Often times I feel like it's a political science class, not economics! No need to show up to class, no other students will be there
Greatd professor, even though class isn't mandatory he makes it really fun you'd want to go.
His tests new super manageable. Go to his lectures make study guides and guaranteed pass. Do not expect to pass with no effort. He is an amazing professor and completely worth it for average hard working students. Attendance isn't mandatory, no homework only problem sets once in a while.
I liked him as a professor. He is funny and kind. Not much to his class, not gonna lie, I don't even know what the class was about. All he says in class is GDP and an occasional Trump joke. I couldn't understand the material but somehow did well on my exams. Class is based on 4 exams. Definitely didn't show up to his class and only went remote.
Only grades were 4 tests that cannot be passed by paying attention in class. Professor Nelson expects his students to have a level of undertsanding in macro that can not be attained until post undergrad status. He is a very nice man and makes himself avaible for help, but even after asking for help, his tests contained completely new content.
Very little homework. exams were online. pretty cool dude, but I honestly didn't learn much.
He is so funny haha whenever someone's phone goes off he goes "some noise?" and I just think it's the funniest thing ever. Anyway exams are easy and repeats questions from the practice exam. Boring but you can get an A.
I had taken econ in high school however his syllabus is helpful. Problem sets followed by tests help effective learning and fair grading. Tests are online and not in class. He wants to help students do well and teaches well. Definitely take this class.
Prof. Nelson is a fantastic professor and makes the content taught as simple as possible without missing any details. Lectures can be slow if you are not super engaged, but any content you may miss is on his powerpoints. Would 100% take again.
All tests are online and you can take them where ever you want, which of course is an advantage. The class is very lecture heavy so it gets boring pretty fast. Professor Nelson himself is an ok professor, but I feel like he gives his students sass when they ask a question in class.
Makes sure that every student is on same page before moving on. If you pay attention, it will be an easy class to get an A in. Online exams. Practice tests, problem sets, and revision sheets to help study. Sometimes not helpful when answering questions. Textbook not necessary but helpful if lost. Power-point heavy, can get boring but good overall.
Professor Nelson is a nice person and cares about making topics accessible to everyone. However, this results in painfully slow and uninteresting lectures. Tests (including final) are online and he gives practice tests before each one. Problem sets are graded just on completion. Very easy class; wouldnt take if you want to genuinely learn.
if you pay attention youll pass but its hard to pay attention because its painfully boring. Theres practice exams before exams, everything is online, homework is based on completion, and he posts all the ppts online. If you struggle with econ, this isnt the best choice. If youre good with econ, you should be fine taking Nelson.
Best Professor on campus
Man is goated. Easily the best professor on campus and an easy class as long as you show up and complete the problem sets which are worth a large percentage of your grade but you just have to complete it. Take him for ECO 212.
Amazing professor and best at UM. Take him if you have a chance for 211 or 212. If you really want to learn though, take someone else. Powerpoint heavy, but exams are all online including the final! Chill dude, as long as you complete the problem sets and do well on the tests, you will end with an A. Love you nelson!
Professor moved all our tests online (via lockdown browser but no camera on) and changed our final to a group research project. He was always nice, just don't talk while he was talking. The class was very easy, but if you actually want to learn anything, take a different professor.
30% of the grade was problem sets, and all of them are easy and you should get an A. Tests are hit or miss because a lot of them are very easy, but they're only 20 multiple choice questions so if you get a few wrong you're kind of screwed. He's a nice enough guy if you reach out to him, he wouldn't bump up my grade but no hard feelings.
If you want to just take this for credit and do not care about the material then take him. Do not take if you actually want to learn. He also mask shames even though it was optional for most of the semester. While it was required he would throw a fit if you had it slightly below your nose 150 ft away from him... Take if you want easy grade.
Nelson is a good guy, but he can be a little passive-aggressive at times and call u out in front of the whole class. The class itself is pretty easy, just sit there and get through it you'll be fine.
Nelson is the best Econ teacher. Tests are all online. It is difficult to stay focused during his lectures so reading the textbooks along with the lectures is a good idea. Problem sets can be difficult however there are online sessions that help. Go to them and you will be fine.
Nelson is a funny, nice man who is very experienced in his field. Although I received an A in the class, I cannot tell you a single thing about economics. His lectures are very slow so its hard to stay focused and he does not provide much help for the assignments, but just go to the TA office hours. Tests not super easy but are online.
Nelson is such a good professor. Definitely take him if you are taking the class as an elective or requirement for a major. Funny and a good guy, super easy hw and online tests. Textbook is not really used so you can buy it if you want, but you don't have to. Take him over Spiegelman.
All tests are online. Got an A and learned nothing.
If you're looking for an easy A with minimal effort, definitely take this. I am not a business major, but still understood all the content clearly. All the tests are online and problem sets are weighted greater than exams. Also, take advantage of the TA sessions, they're really helpful to complete problem sets.
Great teacher if economics is not your major. I did a high school eco class and it covered all of the topics we went through. The quizzes and assignments range from incredibly easy to really hard. Go to the TA sessions and do the practice tests and you will be fine
Nelson is one of my favorite professors here. His exams are online with a lockdown browser. You get a couple of homeworks and then it's 3 or 4 exams. Attendance is mandatory cause he takes polls during class to see if you are really there or not. Super easy and a great guy.
Very kind professor. 30% of the grade is problem sets, which have TA sessions that help out with them. There are four quizzes including the final, which are all online via the lockdown browser. Overall very easy class and I will definitely be talking Professor Nelson again for Macro next semester! Participation matters via IClicker.
attendance is mandatory but tests are online and remote and his work is very easy
Very easy class. Grades are based on 4 tests that all have a practice set and on Problem sets. These sets might be tricky, but there are TA sections that basically guarantee a 90 if you attend. Gave extra credit just for rating him at the end of the semester.
I actually have never found a professor I dislike more. He is not engaging and goes on tangent after tangent. He will call on students randomly to answer, or call you out if you are talking / sleeping / look disengaged. Don't recommend.
Absolutely hate him. He's catty and grumpy, calling out students in a 100+ person class for sleeping/talking/not paying attention, insisting that all eyes are on him all the time. Attendance is mandatory, he tracks it through an app that uses location services, but the lecture is just him reading a powerpoint he'll post online anyway. He sucks.
Augustine really the GOAT. If you an econ major and really want to learn something don't take him, but if your just taking him for Gen Ed's, easy A.
i dont understand anything he says in class. but I just do the homework (5 assignments a semester) and I have a good grade. also tests and final is online so that's easy. would take again only because of the online tests and final
A easy, but informative economics class. All his assignments are online, but you do have to show up for attendance as he uses iClicker and does in-class polls through it. 10/10 recommend though, interesting and fun lectures
Thought i was going to do alot worse than I acutally did. tests are the hardest thing imo cause u only get 20mins to do 20n questions even tho other people say they are really easy. i hink reading th4 book helped alot cause i couldmnot pay attention his class.
Calls on people in class but such an easy grader.
Show up to class, and this is a free A. The exams are online, and the homework is take-home too. There are resources to help you if you happen to not get everything from his lectures, but the subject material is so easy you might not even need the textbook. Nelson is also a good teacher himself. Take his class if you want an A with little effort!
This class with Professor Nelson is very easy to do the work and you will get an A, if you don't understand problem sets go to TA sessions they will give the answers. Exams are taken home so not difficult, attendance is mandatory for his lectures. His lectures are boring and are not useful for learning so I recommend taking someone else.
Professor Nelson is hilarious, and he does an overall solid job of teaching. He isn't afraid to call out distracted/distracting students in class, but it is easy to get on his good side if you just stay silent and not be obviously distracted. Quizzes and tests are a bit difficult but still easy to do well in the class.
The only reason Professor Nelson has a good rating is because all of the exams are online and you can basically cheat your way into an A. If that sounds perfect for you that's great, not judging, but if you want a good professor who you can actually learn from he is not for you.
Nelson is quiet, but he makes the concepts super easy to understand. Show up to class and you will do well, the assignments and tests are easy. However, he will call you out in front of everyone if you're not paying attention to his lectures. Would take again.
Boring lectures and he can be rude. I thought that I would perform better by sitting in the front row of the large lecture hall but instead he always picks on the people in the front and makes it an annoyance to come to class. With this being said, the course is a breeze and it's easy to get an A, just don't sit in the front.
Nelson was a good professor. There are a couple assignments (problem sets/research papers) but they're easy. Exams are online w/ lockdown and easy. Attendance is mandatory and he uses Iclicker for attendance and polling questions which is a part of your final grade. Also, do NOT let him catch you on your phone or talking bc he will call you out lol
Great professor, take quizes during class to ensure learning, which helps paying attention
Professor Nelson is a great professor who understands Macro very well. Highly recommend! His lectures are informative, the content is important, and he is one of the few non college robot professors at the school. He has a brain ... can't say that about most professors at UM. Take him, you will learn a lot and have interesting discussions.
Nelson is a great professor. Very easy class with only 6 homework problem sets and a research paper. Tests are all online, take-home, lockdown browser. Attendance is small part of grade but not mandatory. I just needed this pre-req but I didn't really care for the material, it's definitely not a try-hard class, it's easy to pass
This class is an easy A, but there's no incentive to pay attention so I didn't learn much from the class (I'm an econ major so I low key needed to). He responds to emails sometimes and all exams are taken outside of class on lockdown browser. Super easy A, but you won't learn much.
So so boring, but easy to get good grades. Exams are take home (20 min for 20 MCQ). The whole class he just yaps about the economy but he makes it super funny by calling students out. Final is also 20 min 20 MCQ & the research paper is all AI written. Show up to class & answer in class online mini quizzes (1 or 2 questions)
Just show up to class and look interested and you will get a good grade. He will call you out if you're not paying attention or if you're talking, but other than that the class is a breeze. The exams are unproctored online which make them incredibly easy to do well on, however the class itself was super boring and I didn't learn much.
Class was kind of boring, but it is not that difficult.
Super funny professor if you pay attention and catch his jokes. Material is pretty self explanatory and exams were online, only about 20 questions.
He answers emails really fast. He only gives 20 minutes for 20 question exams when you have to calculate and analyze graphs. Super annoying when you have basically no time. The class is easy. Kinda boring. He's super nice.
Dr. Nelsons class is very straightforward. His lectures can be boring or very entertaining at times. You need to attend class as attendance is directly part of your grade. Tests are worth 45% of the final grade 20 minutes 20 question online on a lockdown browser. This class should be an easier A than other Econ classes.
Attendance is mandatory & participation is worth 17% of your grade. Lectures are boring, but if he sees someone not paying attention, he will call you out & embarrass you & he sometimes will call on the same kids every class. 5 homeworks - worth 30%. Exams are online: 20 questions-20 mins. 4 exams, 3 worth 10% & final worth 15% but not cumulative.
It's just your average economics course. Attendance is mandatory and the lectures may put you to sleep, but you should pay attention as he will call you out if you aren't. Exams are 20 questions, 20 minutes on LockDown Browser, not cumulative. Do your homework on time or face 50% deduction to your score. The group research paper AI-generated.
This class was so easy, all you had to do was show up and after that, you could literally do whatever during class. Exams are online not cumulative and super straightforward. The lectures are super boring, so be prepared for that. If you have the opportunity to take Nelson, I would take it, this class is literally a free A.
Really great professor, tends to openly cold call people in class. His lectures are comprehensive and include great definitions for the test and a better understanding of the field. Not too many assignments outside of the problem sets other than the readings.
Very skibidi
Professor Nelson's ECO211 class is a breeze - just show up and stay engaged. Exams are a breeze, and Unstuckstudy can help with study prep. Boring lectures, but an easy A if you pay attention.
Professor Nelsons class itself is very lecture based, so it isn't the most engaging. The exams used to be take-home online which was great, but he switched it to in-person which made it a lot more challenging. If there's a professor you can actually learn from rather than memorizing and self-studying, I would do that.
Very lecture heavy and lectures can be pretty boring but exams are all online, take-home, and non-proctored. Professor goes on tangents a lot talking about other things but overall pretty chill.
Quizzes are confusing and not very related to lectures. Lectures are not helpful and he just goes on rants. You have a lot of grades including problem sets, attendance, an essay and quizzes. However quizzes are sometimes online at home but in person online is hard, only 1 cheat sheet for so many notes and not usually related questions.
Just not an engaging teacher at all, you wont really learn anything. Hes a good guy, but macro is somewhat of a complex topic and he doesnt teach it well. I would not recommend him, his class is an unnecessary struggle.
Professor Nelson is a really great guy. He cares about his students and wants them to do well. Most of the tests are online, and he provides plenty of prep material. Take his class - he is the best option in the department.
Online class super easy. Makes camera on and attendance counts. 5 problem sets (homeworks), 4 tests including final (20 questions and 20 minutes), group project at the end. First two tests r easy and third is harder. Tests are online and not proctored or recorded! would 100% recommend, must take him if u take this class! He's also nice and funny.
Fun prof and makes an effort to get to know you. It's hard to know what's on the exam and doing the readings does not help, so be sure to study the content he puts in his lecture notes (posted online) outside of what he writes on the slides. HW is light and incredibly easy. One group project at the end. In person final with all other exams online.
Professor Nelson is great! He is a funny guy. I took two of his classes, ECO 211 and ECO 212, and they were both easy. Exams are online and he does not assign a lot of work. I definitely recommend taking him for any economics classes he teaches.
The class was easy to get an A but lectures were boring and hard to get through. I had to play subway surfers on the side just to pass the time. He tries to make it interesting by calling on random people or going on tangents about random things. The directions for the research paper we had were also very unclear.
Lectures aren't that interesting, but chill professor. He will call you out if he thinks you're not paying attention or talking. All quizzes are online and take home and all exams are online, but in person. He lets you have a one-page cheat sheet for the exams. Super easy class and nice professor.
2 exams, multiple choice, on lockdown (in person). Quizzes r take home and the problem sets (hw) r v easy. He RARELY assigns everything so this class is lowk a breeze. BUT he LOVES calling on ppl randomly who r talking or on their phones. Sit in the back if u don't wanna get called on. Very slow course, lectures r boring and he's hard to understand
take home quizzes are easy. The exams are now in person but on your computer (lockdown browser) he takes attendance through iclicker. Very boring but easy class. Make it look like you're paying attention and he will never call on you.
The grade all comes down to practice sets and the two tests. Study hard for tests, the quizzes are online, he is funny, hard to focus, but cold calls random people, especially if they look like they aren't paying attention.
Most of your grade is made up of multiple choice exams, at-home online quizzes, and problem sets. Go to TA sessions for help with the problem sets, they will guide you through them. Attendance is mandatory, so show up and pay attention or he will cold call you. Overall, if you take notes during lectures and study for the exams, you will do fine.
