Gus is awesome. Management covers stuff that most will find dull, but Gus is lively and goes at a fast pace to keep things from getting boring. Tests are pretty easy and hands out plenty of extra credit for coming to class and movies. You can probably never come to class and just use his workbook to get an A if you want though. Very cool professor.
Excellent background experiences that he brings into lecture. He can sometimes be goofy and fun but class is still orderly and structured. Gus promotes a lot of group and team learning which promotes discussion. It does take a little time to get get used to the speed at which he speaks.
He's a fair grader, fun guy & entertaining. Do the work consistently from the start and you'll be ok. But yes you do have to do the readings and assignments though they aren't graded. I got a B+, but I didnt put in the necessary work, so an A is quite obtainable. He's funny, you'll enjoy his wittiness & humor. He pokes fun during his lectures :o)
Very good and fun professor. Lectures are very different from the book, you barely need it for class. Interesting and interactive lectures but very difficult exams.
Gus is rediculous. He talks VERY fast and it is hard to write down everything he says. If you ever need to get a hold of him it is almost impossible. I don't know how he became dean of the business school.
His sense of humor keeps class interesting. He talks a little fast, which makes it hard to pick up everything. That's important because some of the exam will be from what he says, which makes the exams tricky. I would say he is average, so I wouldn't encourage or discourage you from taking him.
Not a bad class. He talks really fast and it is hard to take notes. Tests are fair and there is a good amount of extra credit.
There are so many bad thingss I can say about him. He talks too fast, it is impossible to write down everything he says. Of all the junior core courses he makes this the worst one. I got my first D ever in my academic career and im bitter because i got a 69.9 I kept trying to get ahold of him to try to work things out but this was impossible. AVOID
Gus is a wonderful prof. Hes fun, very entertaining, and tries his best to help you remember the material that the course requires. Anyone that says "he talks way too fast" must be from the south, because I never had a problem understanding him. If you study before exams, attend class, and actually pay attention, it's not that difficult.
He was pretty good. Tests are pretty straightforward, but he chose THE WORST TA'S POSSIBLE this semester (seriously, they put the students at a disadvantage rather than trying to help them). Professor= good. TA's= HORRIBLE
His tests are hard, but you'll do well if you really memorize your notes and understand everything. He's a good teacher because he makes you understand how what we learn in class applies to real-life situations. I actually learned and understood a lot from him.
Gus is an asset to penn state. his class was a piece of cake. offers tons of extra credit. easy A. Take him!
GUS is the coolest italian I've ever met. Took him in Summer '08. Wish I had him for a whole semester though b/c he's so funny! Tests come straight from notes-class discussions made material easier to learn. Oh & he LOVES puppies
What a guy, what a class. He speaks faster than any guy I've ever met, making clarity a bit of an issue. Such a funny guy though, tells great stories, and his examples are so nuts you'll definitely remember them for the test. Need to attend for extra credit quizzes. Take this class with him, definitely completes the psu forum experience
Great Teacher! This tests are hard so you do need to study! The final was much better than the midterm! He does a great job relating it to real life. And he does LOVE puppies! :)
Gus is awesome ! He keeps his lectures fun, interesting, and hilarious. He relates all of the material to real life so it is easy to understand. The midterm was tough but the final was much easier. Study your notes and you'll be fine.He is obsessed with puppies and Mcdonald's !
Gus is a great guy. He makes the class fun. DO NOT underestimate the exams. I studied like crazy and received an A in the class. Make sure you go to class and take good notes. He offers a lot of extra credit for each exam so you should pass this class.
Interesting class, good professor. Gus speaks really fast, but once you get used to his pace it's easy to pick up on. Has some interesting points, and you can tell he really wants his students to be successful.
Focuses on minute details and not big-picture ideas for the exams, so when studying, study the details. I bombed the first exam because I didn't know what to expect but once you understand where he gets his questions from the class is very easy. I got an A even after a poor start. The extra credit he gives is a lifesaver
Very passionate, great guy, who cares a lot about his students. Can talk a little to fast sometimes but he has more back ground knowledge and stories than just about any professor. Tests are semi difficult but if you get all of the extra credit you get an extra 5% on your grade ths makes the class a lot easier
He talks really fast so you need to pay attention, but once you get used to it, it's not bad (i got an A). He loves his diagrams so make sure to study those for tests. Also make sure to know definitions and examples of each topic - tests aren't bad once you know what he's looking for. Gives an easy 5% extra credit for each test so attend class!
Gus is awesome. His class is fun and engaging. Only thing is he talks really fast which takes some getting used to. The first test is really hard but they get easier as you learn what to expect. You can definitely get an A if you study like crazy for the tests. Notecards are the best way to go.
Amazing teacher, amazingly hard class. Your grade is made up of 4 B-major size reducing tests, guess there isn't room in Smeal for all of us. If your interesting in business, you will love this class. His textbook uses real-life business examples, and he is a really funny guy. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY, I was happy with a C+.
He was a really good teacher, he just spoke pretty fast but it wasn't terribly fast. The subject material was slightly difficult but Gus is an excellent teacher!
Gus is awesome! He talks pretty fast sometimes so pay attention. The material is EASY. people tend to freak out over the exams, but they really aren't hard at all. Just take notes in class and make sure you know the material and you'll probably get an A on the exam.
Gus is the greatest man alive! He's very good at explaining what he's saying with detailed examples. He's always willing to help students and is not afraid to give extra credit. Definitely take at least one class with Gus, he appreciates hard work!
Gus is a great Guy. He goes out of his way to help his students learn the material. The exams are not difficult if you study. If you dont study you woulnt do well. He offers extra credit with every exam. I would highly recommend this class
Really nice guy who really knows a lot about organizational behavior. To do well on his exams: take down every single thing that he says in class and turn them into flashcards that you memorize backwards and forwards. Make sure you know everything from big overall concepts to little details and you can't go lower than an A in the class. Flashcards!
Basically a class of memorizing - not learning. Gus is a great guy. A little hard to understand a times, though. Go to class, make flashcards, and you'll do fine.
Not a bad professor. The lectures were really boring unless we did an in-class project (several throughout semester). Take notes in the book and attend class even though he can be hard to follow at times. Overall still a good and helpful professor.
Gus is a great guy, lectures are interesting, he's lively and doesn't make you want to fall asleep. Best advice would be to go to class to get all the extra credit, make flashcards and study for the exam from them. Understand the concepts as well as definitions and you'll pull at least a B+.
Gus is as everyone else says a good guy. He just cannot teach. He's an interesting speaker to listen to, but not every class. The entire class is memorization, not much "understanding of concepts." It is sad that this is the first business class that most students take. Gus just has this stigma attached to him as being a legend-- don't be fooled.
Gus is a fantastic guy with many great real life examples to go along with his lectures. That being said this is not a great class. Some lectures Gus is solid but more than often he jumps around and is very confusing. The key to doing well is taking down every word he says and writing them on FLASHCARDS. Would not take another class of his.
Gus is a great guy. His class is somewhat challenging, but if you study and go to office hours you should be fine. Don't miss class, you can't teach yourself the material from the book. Definitely take his as a professor.
He is impossible to understand and the tests brely come from the textbook readings. however, the textbook has all the power point slides he uses for the lectures so without the textbook it is impossible to take notes, the majority of the test material. nice guy, but poor teacher
He's a great professor. Gives a lot of real life examples with each concept he teaches. Though I've got to say his exams were pretty tough. You definitely have to study well in advance. Then again he does offer a lot of extra credit opportunities...never miss the extra credit movies!! A lot of reading is assigned so don't leave it till the end.
Gus is awesome, you have to go to class though. Read the material before class and take clear notes. If you can memorize and make sense of his material and examples then you will be fine!
Great professor but a lot of studying is needed for exams. Note cards and outlining is a must for A's on exams. Not too many exam questions come from readings so mostly just have to attend class to understand material. Recommend taking him just study and you'll get the A and learn a lot.
He talks fast but if you study for the tests for a few hours and go to class youll get an a or a- in the class
Gus is probably the best professor I've had a PSU. He knows his material and is very engaging and easy to listen to. The class is not easy but you will learn A TON. He is extremely helpful and wants you to well in this class. I highly recommend taking a course with him
Gus is a very funny and genuine man. However, his class is hard as fck. His exams barely use textbook information, so you have to go to class and listen to the lectures. Also for the test MAKE FLASHCARDS ON TERMS. It will save your life. I took this class the summer of my freshman year for LEAP, so it was pretty difficult. Upperclassmen expect Bs
Gus is a great guy to have as a teacher. Pretty much everything you need to know for the exams are from his lectures so go to class, but still buy the book because he writes it. He talks fast, but you'll get used to it and he is definitely better than some of the other management teacher's you might get stuck with.
My favorite professor @ Penn State by far! Take his class-- will change your life
I loved his class. He is by far one of my most favorite professors. He is very likable and intelligent. I enjoyed the material and discussions and learned a lot. He really cares about his job and what he's teaching.
Gus is such a great professor. He's really engaging during lectures, and makes MGMT easy to understand. The only grades are the exams, but he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities which make all the difference. The final is optional. Read the book because he writes it, and it's an easy read. Take him!
Loved taking class with Prof Colangelo. He has an incredible resume and provides real life experience for almost every topic. The tests are not hard if you study and you can opt out of the final if you are happy with your grade. Typically in class group activities the last class of the week that are not graded and fun.
Gus is a great guy, but a horrible teacher. He has a psychology degree, nothing in business. His tests are super hard for no reason, and contain information that wasn't covered in class or the text. His class is based off four tests. No papers, no homework nothing but tests. Mess one up say goodbye to that good grade. Would NOT take again.
The lectures and events he holds are truly awesome. It is a joy to go to his class and hear his ideas. However, he is not an easy grader. But he hands out A LOT OF extra credits. Please take advantage of them. If you don't worry about the grade and just enjoy his classes, it will be a bless.
Gus is the best professor I have ever had. He is passionate about research and progress in the business world. I will miss his class tremendously.
Easily the most ideological professor I've ever had. The tests were the most difficult and unreasonable things I had ever taken in my life: 8-page essay exams in 75 minutes that NEEDED to align with his beliefs. No rubrics, no feedback on projects. Intolerant of anyone who disagreed with his far-left political ideas. A terrible class & professor!!
