One of the best teachers at UNM. She was very helpful and encouraging. Talked to you like you were an actual person. Class was pretty difficult for a 100 level class, not an 'easy A' class, but lectures were interesting. Tests were hard.
I took the class in the summer so the it was very difficult for a 100 level... not an easy "A". Aurora is a great teacher; very clear on the material, very helpful, and she makes the class fun with experiements!

Great teacher and person. Presentations in class are very helpful.
Very good
Very good professor, knows material extremely well (she wrote the textbook). Very helpful and kind to the student and will help work around certain issues as long as the student is trying to succeed in the class. Very easy to stay after class chatting with her.
Aurora is hands down one of the best professors on campus. She's incredibly passionate about the subject and it's reflected in her teaching. She and her TAs are always available to help students. Great class. Be prepared to devote time to it, but if you do all you're work it's not difficult to get a good grade.
Best professor I've had!! She knows what she talking about, loves what she's teaching, and can explain anything in a very clear understanding way. Her test help is amazing and she can answer any question you throw at her. She is not out to let you fail she wants to help and wants you to pass. Her class lectures are the best I've ever been too.
FABULOUS!!! Aurora is great! Just go to class and read the book! She makes it so easy by giving you the homework almost everyday. If you do it, you'll be fine. Again, READ!! She gives wonderful review sheets are good HINTS to what will be on the tests. very helpful too, always there for you!
I thought professor Pun was great. She cares about her students. If you don't get it she will take the time to explain it to you and if you want one on one time with her you cand schedule an appointment. She is open and she is very clear. Probably because she wrote the text book. She wants her students to succeed.
She gives a lot of busy work. Two online quizzes are due a week. You have worksheets to do during class. And the tests are all essay answers. Luckly all the busy work is easy and gets you alot of points to up your grade. And she allows you to use notes on the tests and scanned images from the book if you want.
I took the class in a four week summer course. It was intense, but definately managable. Aurora is a really great teacher. She gives you every chance to be successful. Your grade is broken up by plenty of in class assignments, not just dependent on test scores. Go to class, participate, and do some of the reading and you'll get an A.
Aurora is probably the best professor I have ever had when it comes to explanation, interest and care where her students are concerned. There is a lot of work but if you fail or do poorly in this class it is your own fault. She gives you many opportunities to do well and obviously loves her chosen field!
Great teacher. Not an easy A but as long as you put in the effort, an A isn't hard. She knows what she's talking about in her lectures. She loves geology and wants to make sure you understand the topics, which can get annoying, but you do learn quite a bit.
If you want an easy A..don't take her. You do have to ask questions, but she is very approachable, and will help with anything. She makes it where no matter what passing the class is possible
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! She knows her geology and if you come across concepts that you don't understand, she will work with you. You do have to work in this class, but it is worth taking! Great person!
You have to work in this class, but definitely worth it. Great professor!! She will work with you if you are unclear on concepts and can explain in 'plain English'.
Aurora is an effective teacher, and has a great sense of humor. For a 101 course it is a bit strenuous, but you learn a lot, and in turn she expects a lot from you. If you want an honest, good science course, take Aurora's class.
Work is strenuous and she loves to put trick questions on quizzes and tests. Should not be a 100 level course
If you read all assigned readings on time and show up to every class...this is an easy A. Aurora takes pride in what she does and put 100% effort into this course. Her hybrid approach of clickers, SHORT assignments, variations in lecture material can touch every students learning habits. Not very much out of class.(max 5 hours/week on test weeks)
She makes you love and learn the subject! I highly recommend her class.
For a 101 class there is a lot of online assignments and work you need to complete. If you do the study guides and actually read the chapters you'll do good in her class. If you slack off, you won't do well at all. She also gives a lot of extra credit if you go to class.
Aurora definitely demands a lot but that is because she cares and truly loves the subject. She wants her students to understand the material and do well, she gives you every opportunity. You definitely have to put forth the effort!
Aroura is an absolutely amazing teacher. I can't reccomend her enough. The class required lots of online work which was tough to keep up with, but not overly terrible. I learned way more from lectures than I did from the book. I highly recommend taking the lab section as well with this course
Pretty straight forward. Lots of extra credit. If you do assignments on time and do your reading this is an easy class.
The EPS class I took was 100level, but Pun treated it like it was 300level. There were constant online responsibilities and 1-2 in class assignments each class. Over all the class was very stressful, discouraging, and overly time consuming. I would not recommend this class for anyone who is not a science major.
Dr.Pun is a great professor and she wants to make sure her students succeed. Others have said her class is tough if you aren't a science major but I disagree. She teaches well but moves fast(a chapter per week), and has worksheets in class as well as online quizzes. Just keep up and do the extra credit, Dr. Pun wants you to get an A in her class.
I have learned so much from this class!! There is a lot of work and assignments, but they're all focused towards what is going to be on the test. Aurora is very knowledgeable about geology and is patient and helpful! Cheat sheets are allowed on the tests and if well done, can help significantly! I loved this class!
Being a social sciences student, I was fairly skeptical I would fall in love with this class- I couldn't have been more wrong. Dr. Pun teaches the course with such an interest, it's far too interesting not to want to study the material. Overall a great professor and great course- I wouldn't change a thing about it. I loved this course!!
Aurora carefully designs her class in order to maximize student involvement (even in a class of 150). She lectures and does in-class assignments. There is a good deal of online work as well but it complements lecture very well. Her lectures are interesting and she is relatable. One of the best instructors I've had.
Is super organized and on the ball with the class work and activities, in class and computer components. Called on students by name in a class of 150. The class structure with lecture and "clicker" and in-class worksheets is a bit much, but since Chem 121 is the same I think that's not her choice. Don't skip class.
Very helpful. Online quizzes help you with the in class assignment. If you skim the book and pay attention in class you will find it very easy!
Professor Pun is extremely knowledgeable about geology and can explain it to someone who doesn't speak science. There is a lot of work required but it is relevant and if you keep up you can get a good grade. She won't let you fail if you try. She is also really helpful, so ask questions. I learned so much from this class, I highly recommend it!!
Aurora, is very helpful and is very nice! If you seek help or tutoring set up a meeting! She will help you! Other things to consider is the amount of reading, she goes by the book.
Lots of busy work, but the assignments are pretty easy. Important to read the book prior to the class. Clicker questions can be tricky at times. Offers plenty of extra credit. Good teacher.
Professor Pun was one of the best teacher I have had at UNM. If you are required to take a science, take her class! It takes work, but its also very fun and interesting. I really enjoyed her class!
Just avoid taking her class. Too much to do for an 100 level class. Also very confusing
She is a nice lady, but her class is to difficult. Exams extremely hard.
This class is hard you have to go to every class or you'll miss group assignments and there are like two per class. Clicker questions are also every class. Theres about two-three reading assignments online each week. I hated this class. The exams are also hard. You have to be very interested to take this class.
Reading assignments are mandatory, clickers are used every class. Blackboard is heavily utilized. Dr. Pun makes the class interesting and clears uo any text questions. She offers many extra credit opportunities. I learned a lot, and have high interest in the subject. My groupmates didn't give as much effort and passed with C's.
Class is way too difficult. If you are not good at science do not take this class.
No comments! class is just too hard.
This class does have a large workload for an intro class, but it is all very helpful to actually learning the subject. Aurora does a great job at explaining and expanding on the reading. She makes it interesting and easy to understand, even for people who hate science, like me. There is a ton of extra credit and you get cheat sheets on the tests.
Class is overwhelming, hard to keep up with all the assignments! tests are extremely difficult! if you are not good a science or have a full schedule take another class.
Her class was very hard. Her tests were hard considering there was more than 1 right answer but you have to chose the best answer or you get it wrong. Do not take her class.
most difficult class i have taken. Struggled more than with calculus and accounting. the material and tests are close to impossible since more than one answer is right you just rely on faith.. Always did my reading, participated in class, never missed a single assignment and still struggled a lot
very difficult class, most difficult up until now,, and i have taken classes like calculus and accounting.. even for me a science major this class was difficult and confusing.
Too much work! Expect to have no life. Way too much to do!! Overwhelming. If you have a job and other classes, then do not take her class. Class and tests are also super hard! Most difficult and confusing class I have taken!
Avoid her class at all costs! organic chemistry was cake easy!! compared to this overwhelming 100 level class. Professor does not understand students have other classes!
Most confusing and overwhelming class I have taken at UNM!!! did all my readings and requirements too end up with tests are ridiculously hard to understand! Just avoid her class!!
Loved her! She wrote the book we used too! Explains concepts clearly, allows us to use reference sheets on the tests, has extra credit, and has most of our homework online based on the readings in the book! I learned and retained so much in her class, would definitely have another class with her! Work hard and you'll do fine in this class. :)
Aurora was very clear and concise in her lectures. Tests completely based off of in class lectures and online quizzes. Lots of busy work and reading, but not difficult subject matter. If you stay on top of readings and homework, and go through the exam review you should be fine. Also you get a double sided full sheet of paper for the test.
Very good Instructor One of the best at UNM. There is a moderate amount of work, but there is tons of help if you need it. You have to read, but she and her PLFs will clear up any questions that you have immediately. This class is concept based so, if you are good at asking questions and making sure that you understand concepts you will do well.
Hardest class at UNM so far made me hate science with a passion she is so difficult and lectures are not clear at all
Easy class, set alarms in your phone of when you need to take the online quizzes (get 5 attempts) and you will pass. She is such an amazing teacher and knows her stuff! You have online quizzes/learning checks 3 times a week and you can use your book so its easy. She also gives extra credit and allows a make up exam toward the end of the semester.
Dr. Pun is a professor that is incredibly intelligent, rough at teaching. I feel she forgot this is a 101 class because the expectation of the information you're expected to grasp so quickly is absurd. I have taken plenty of 101 courses and this was the hardest, THE HARDEST 101 I've ever taken. Love geology? Take this class, want easy A? Stay away
She's awesome
You have to work for this class! Its not an easy A. Online quizzes and homework every week. Pun doesn't go over much in class, its practically just you and the textbook. Group work is tough, Pun doesn't let you use book. However you do get a review sheet for each exam which is nice. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DONT NEED IT!
If you're looking for a walk in the park 101, this isn't the class for you. She has high standards and every week assigns clicker questions, in class assignments (required to be completed with your group), reading assessments, and learning checks. However, if you work hard and show her you care, she will help you out as much as she can.
I wasn't expecting the amount of work load for this class. You have to read and do a quiz before every class and do a learning check after. You work with groups every single day and lectures. I would recommend this class if you have plenty of time to study but if you're working or have a big class load I wouldn't recommend this class.
EPS 101 was very easy for a science class. Attendance is still required. Pay attention because she'll hint about what will be on the test. She could easily have made the tests much harder. If this is your first science class you'll want to study hard though if you're not familiar with subjects like the scientific method.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY NEEEEEED IT! This class is NO joke! She literally wrote the text book you use in class! Rocks are interesting but you have to know everything and anything about them! You're going to have to be familiar with everything she teaches and the book! she will even give you scenarios you have to know!quizzes!!!!
Beware of the tests, they are tough! And get harder each time. You do get to use a whole sheet of paper front and back and there's review sessions BUT still, they are hard! You do gain a lot of knowledge about the Earth but it was a tough class to get an A in, I didn't and I'm usually an all A student. She will help you through office hours
Loved her class! It is hard there is not doubt but that is what college is about!
Dr. Pun is extremely passionate about her subject, just talk to her! The textbook is required, however I never purchased it and still recieved a high grade in the class. Your group is important, so get to know them! Be prepared for difficult exams, the first one I got a 100, the others were significantly harder. Make sure to use your study guides!
There was never a boring lecture.
Dr Pun is amazing. The best teacher I've had in college yet! She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to learn and succeed. Be ready to put in about 3 hours a week outside of class for reading and notes. Do not skip class or try to wait until the exams to do the readings (I mean yes you will still pass but you'll probably get a C+ or B
She wrote the book. (Literally!) She's very knowledgeable about the subject and knows what she teaches. It's a very tough class but you will learn something!
She is awesome. She tries her best to reach every single group while providing In class assisgnment.
Tests were a big part of grades, but she gave a lot of opportunities for extra credit and a make-up test that replaced your worst test score. Cool person, understanding. And she wrote the textbook (for EPS 101).
Aurora does a great job lecturing and engaging the class. I HIGHLY recommend you read the chapters before coming into class, it may seem hard but once you spend time in the lecture itll all come together nicely. She also gives a lot of extra credit opportunity and holds study halls before major exams that are very useful.
I LOVED her! She's always got a tiny smirk on her face when she gives her lectures- showing she really loves what she teaches. It was my most involved class, I worked hard, but did well (A!) Take her. She is a lovely human.
Pun is a great professor. She's passionate about what she teaches and understands her students. When I was sick, she gave me 3 extension days for an exam, which saved me a lot of stress. The only complaint that I have is the textbook! Pun wrote it herself and it was just too much reading (for me) with 30+ page chapters. Otherwise awesome class!
So bad. Do not take geology if you just need a science credit!! this is by far the hardest class I have ever taken, it is terrible. DO NOT recommend at all it is AWFUL
Her class is difficult to begin with but she will do absolutely anything to help you succeed. Her exams are not definitions they are more comprehensive ie. know the material and be able to interpret it. Her extra credit opportunities come in survey format and eval format the extra credit is only given if a certain % of the class does it.
loved professor pun for my intro geology course so much that i considered changing my major to geology. she wrote the textbook used and is so incredibly knowledgeable. highly recommend if you want to learn! not the class for slacking off or an easy A.
Her class is challenging to begin with, but she will go to any length to ensure your success. Her examinations are not defined; rather, they require that you know the subject and be able to interpret it. Her extra credit options are in survey and eval style and are only provided if a specific percentage of the class completes it.
This class made me feel like I was i was in middle-school or high-school again. Childish activities like using our hands to emulate geologic formations and drawing diagrams on whiteboards with colored markers. did not feel like a reputable upper-education university-level class; more like a summer science-camp for middle-schoolers.
Horrible class, Pun makes you buy her book then read chapters just to get work done. Lectures feel useless because she gets everything from the book which you already had to read to do the homework. Would 10/10 not recommend.
Horrible class, Professor Pun makes you buy her book then read chapters just to get work done. Lectures feel useless because she gets everything from the book which you already had to read to do the homework. Would 10/10 not recommend.
Very hands on! She is engaging so I learned so much! Read the textbook
incredibly knowledgeable, creates a fun classroom environment, very accessible for questions and general help with course content. you will develop an affinity for geology in this course, regardless of what background you come from.
Don't look at the old 2017 reviews. Selecting this class with her has been my worst mistake of the semester. She expects you to read everything before coming to class, even grades you on this BEFORE the class the content is taught in. Does not post notes online. Her lectures are trash but required, its basically 20% of the grade. Good luck friend.
I did not thrive under her teaching style. If you're not a STEM major, you'll likely struggle like I did. She requires quizzes before class, many in-class groupwork assignments, and timed online exams that get more difficult as you go. However, I gave my best effort and she sensed this, and ended up passing me which was very understanding of her.
