Professor Adams is a fairly new professor and has not developed a sense of desire for wanting his students to succeed further in life in math. In the beginning of the semester he only taught us patterns of calc with no thorough depth behind anything, towards the end, his exams were incredibly hard so he curved it 10%. He needs more experience.
Professor Adams teaching style was not easy to follow during class. He made himself available outside of class, but had no interest in helping me understand the material I was confused about. I had to drop this class due to the level of difficulty. I didn't find him approachable... this was his 1st semester at mjc and he came straight from a UC.
I really tried with this class, he is terrible to say the least. Has a rude tone when asking for help. Homework wasn't heavy and wasn't worth much. Your whole grade was basically 4 tests and the final. I had a solid C the whole time, did bad on the final and got an F in the class. Unless you are naturally good at math I do not recommend.
Professor Adam's uses a web based homework thats ok for practice. However, none of the quizzes or exams are based off it. The only reason I understood what was going on was thanks to youtube or previous calculus students
Prof. Adams was great! If you actually pay attention in class you will understand the material. I didn't even have to study the textbook. Exams were exactly like the review problems. You HAVE to work for your grade. Great teaching style, easy to follow along! You won't be disappointed if you take the class to actually LEARN, not for an easy grade.
I took Calculus with this professor and he is Hands down the worst Math professor I have ever taken. This class would have been so much harder if my last teacher hadn't introduced us to limits. It is on an online based system. I found myself having to look up youtube videos most of the time and he didn't show a care about our grades. Do not take!
If your planning to take Calculus I and be successful, then you're obviously going to need to put in time and effort. Mr. Adams makes himself available before and after class. If you need help just ask, he's pretty chill. Or you can email him too, he replies quick. I guarantee, regardless of which instructor you take, Calculus will not be easy.
Mr. Adams is a great math teacher, best I've had along w/ Cripe. At first, I was afraid to have had him because I originally signed up for a different professor. He's great at what he does & I honestly can't believe the reviews. He's funny, nice & very helpful! He really prepared our class. Perfect amount of homework & always answered my questions.
Best class ever! Great teacher with real expectations from students.
Good teacher, but when it comes to the test he's very vague about what's going to be on it. He provides a study guide, two classes before the exam, but it's not too helpful because the tests are usually four pages and the SG are longer and most of it is not on the test. He puts word problems on the test, which are most of the points.
Professor Adams is definitely the best professor I have had in the math department. He creates a very relaxed learning environment that makes it easy to learn and stay focused. His tests are very well-written in the sense that the test includes what you would expect to be on it. He is a fair grader, and I would definitely take him again.
Professor Adams is one of the best professors I have had so far. He truly cares about students and the grades they get. Although my grade is not fantastic in this math class, he made math bearable and he made it understandable too. Most of all, he is energetic, caring, and NOT boring. I would totally recommend him if you get the chance.
Professor Adams is a nice professor and super friendly honestly. He will help out with whatever his students are struggling with. His methods are fairly easy to follow if the right amount of studying is put in. Kind of a lot of homework but the tests are what needs to be worried about. Honestly a much better math professor than some that I've had.
Professor Adams uses plenty of visuals like working through problems step by step and his use of Desmos helped me as visual learner. Also the homework he assigns has at lease one problem, usually at the end, that uses real-world situations for the logical learners.
I had an great semester with professor Adams as an instructor, because he made it clear what was on tests. This allow me to focus on important concepts for the tests, which are 50 percent of the overall grade.
Great professor! Attendance important because class is slightly difficult, but if you miss days more than willing to help you in office hours, or if you just have simple questions can come to office hours every day if need be. No judgement, only encouragement from him!
Great professor! I hate math so I honestly thought I would hate the class but he made it bearable! He explains everything step by step and makes sure everyone understands the lesson. For the final he lets his students choose what to review in class a week before finals. great professor, would definitely take him again! He's really nice too!
Professor Adams is great. His methods are easy and he explains it well. He does take his time and cares that you understand. Although I am horrible at math he made it bearable. He's got a great sense of humor and a positive attitude. There is a lot of homework/quizzes online through the math lab, but it's doable. I would definitely choose him again
A good professor who takes the time to help students. While he is a tough grader he won't leave you guessing on what you did wrong and always explains what needs to be done. IF you need extra help he has a lot of office hours and is willing to help you a lot. Also he has good a good sense of humor and friendly personality.
I'm glad I took this class with Professor Adams. He likes helping students so feel free to visit him in his office hours. The study guides and homework are very helpful. This class was challenging but he also made it fun. Be safe by asking questions and trying your best to stay current with the homework and you should do well! And don't skip class!
Great teacher with a very clear way of explaining concepts and new material. If you pay attention and do your homework the class is going to be a breeze. His study guides are perfect to study for every test and saving does up will help you in your final.
Easily the best math teacher I've had here (out of 4 now). Very clear about what will be on tests, no surprises. Homework is harder than the tests, may have some material he just mentions, but that's mathlab and its not that much points. If you want to get what you put in and a helpful professor, take him.
The best math teacher I've ever had. I'm very bad at math, and I've done the best I've ever done in a math class in his class. He goes over everything well and is a really cool, genuine guy. Take him because he is a good teacher! If you take statistics be sure to take Math 135 too (1 unit) because you will have a better chance of passing his class!
Professor Adams is a great guy. He is really nice and funny. His lectures are easy to follow and he really tries to make it as simple as possible for students. His tests were easy, the math lab really helped to prepare for exams. He gives study guides and just makes math so much easier to tolerate. Take him!!
Adams is a knowledgeable instructor and if needed would take a course taught by him again. You can pass his class if you attend and actually pay attention (turn off your phone for once, and see if that helps). I am not the smartest guy and I definitely wasn't the top performer in the class, but I still passed with an A.
Austin is by by far the greatest math professor I have ever had. He wants you to succeed and is extremely helpful and approachable. If you need to take statistics, do not hesitate to take it with him. Knows his stuff and cares about his students. Really sweet guy, also he's incredibly attractive. Like, seriously.
Austin does an amazing job clarifying what is needed to be known for tests. He doesn't try to trick you whatsoever. He will spring in a question or two on the theory of certain tests you will be doing but he isn't a tough grader whatsoever.
Great professor. He really knows his stuff! I loved his class and would take more math with him if I was going past stats. I felt kind of bad for the guy, some annoying girl wouldn't leave him alone the entire semester. We have some desperate people at this school. id recommend!
Hands down the worst math professor I have had. His lectures are straight out of the book word for word. He doesn't provide examples, and when he does he rarely finishes them. When asked questions he comes off very rude, and rarely actually provided a thoughtful response.
Worst professor I've had. Rushes through lectures and is unclear on his exams. He only explains easy problems and somehow expects students to do the hard ones on exams. I've gotten A's in my other calculus classes and never have I encountered a professor like this. Don't know how he is teaching Calculus at MJC. If you can, please take another prof.
Did not like how this professor taught Calculus whatsoever. Calculus is not easy, but it doesn't mean that the professor has to make it even harder than it already is. Rushes through lecture and went over concepts more than the actual problem examples which is what matters. Was always annoyed and comes across very rude when you ask a question.
He is okay. The way he teaches is easy to understand. The tests are not that hard as long as you read the book and maybe do some extra problems from the book if needed.
He is a pretty easy professor. I am not good at math and don't study much and I have a high "B". All you have to do is go to lectures and do all the online homework and you will do fine.
Taking Professor Adams for Math134 was hard, but if you attend his Math135 it does help. Also if possible I would recommend that you do study groups once in a while. Finding a group in class to work with can be helpful after all it is difficult class. Pretty random, but he likes green so you'll see it in questions often! Take him for & good luck!
This is a stats class, so its going to be hard work. You really earn the grade you get in Adams class. Grade is mostly from 3 tests, final, and online hw. If you want to do well go to class everyday, take the math 135, and make sure your class has an SI classes on the side. Good teacher, but your grade will be based on how much work you put in.
Prof Adams is very knowledgeable, always available & easy to talk to. He made statistics very interesting & was clear in presenting it. ENROLL IN THE 135 SUPPORT CLASS! He goes over the labs & what will be on the test. It is vital that you put the same amount of effort as he does in teaching. Your final grade reflects your effort. SI sessions help!
Good teacher , I would recommend fellow statisticians to take him.
Took this class over the summer. So skipping class wasnt really an option. We went over something new every day. Take the 135 class, it will help. Be ready to put in work it is a hard class. Professor Adams is an easy grader and will give points even if the answer is wrong as long as you understand the concept. Having a study group helped me out.
Summer semester, tough material to learn but Adams keeps it straight to the point. (HW SUCKED) Focus on his methods, worksheets, and TESTS. Dont skip class! Take Math135 for the extra help if you arent a math genius its worth it. Calculator friendly! Stats is terrifying but Adams got me thru it. Dont give up, try hard and youll do fine!
If your looking for a math professor who explains things thoroughly and answers questions specifically; this is the guy! Adams is a very intellectual professor who really helps his students learn the material! He is one who will help you pass and cares about it too. I would HIGHLY recommend this professor for a math class since math is really hard.
PROFESSOR ADAMS IS SO FINE I WISH HE WOULD GIVE ME SOME TIME
Be warned. If you have previously taken Calc in high school you will do fine but if math is not your strong suit you will have to work extra hard. He explains the topics well but his exams are extremely difficult and contain the most difficult problems. Take at your own risk. He also is not the most helpful at answering questions.
Professor Adams was genuinely the best professor I've ever had. He explains difficult concepts in a way that's easy to understand, he's very clear about what he expects, he's super lenient and understanding about late work/missing class if you need to, and will talk to you outside of class if you need extra help. He's also nice to look at. 10/10
Professor Adams is definitely someone you want to take for a class that is hard like stats. I enjoyed taking his class this past semester. I recommend him highly. Also if youre in the class make a study group it really helps!
Professor Adams class was great. However, if your new to Stats this is not the class to slack off in. In order to pass this class, you must and should enroll in Math 135 in order to understand what to expect on the test. The worksheets in Math 135 will be similar to the test. DO THE WORKSHEETS. Form Study Groups, Use Tutors. You will be good to go!
READ THIS BEFORE TAKING HIS CLASS FOR CALCULUS! Professor Adams is a nice guy, but this class is ridiculously difficult. I would strongly suggest you avoid his class. If you can just wait for another professor. His test and final have the hardest questions ( nothing like ) notes and it is hit or miss. Look at MATH 173 reviews they explain also.
Prof. Austin Adams is very funny, caring, and positive. However, I don't feel his lectures prepared me well for the exams. This is the first time I've gotten less than an A in any math class- it's my strong suit. I just don't think his teaching style really helped me much. It didn't help the class was at 7:50 in the morning, either (not his fault).
Prof Adams is a really nice guy, and he knows a lot about his subject, but his class is very difficult. Your grade is 90% tests, 10% homework. The tests are all written and extremely difficult. The questions on the tests often include minor things from lecture, not the big picture and every mistake is marked down.
His lectures are short and to the point. He give you a blue print of the test in Math 135 by giving you worksheets with answers and how to solve them. For someone like me thats not good at math I found that very helpful. This was the second time taking Math134 and I didnt find it as overwhelming as the other teacher. He is very helpful.
Professor Adams is willing to help anyone in need, you simply have to reach out. His lectures are powerpoint based. Take his Math 135 course. That's where you will find the study guides, which are HELPFUL. Leaves too much homework. Labs start out easy and then get challenging.
I loved professor Adams! I took him for Statistics and really enjoyed the class (though I was dreading taking it.) He is a really good teacher and is very approachable and helpful. Some lectures are pretty intense so make sure to read the chapter beforehand so you understand whats being discussed. Overall he is one of the best teachers Ive had.
Pros: his notes are clear & worksheet problems are similar to the ones on the exam, except HARDER. Provides formulas on one page during exam. Cons: no 3x5 cards or 1 pg of notes allowed. Exam is 3 pages long back to back. labs every week. 3 exams and are worth a big part of your grade. Hw doesnt bring your grade up.
I really wish I was able to take someone else for calc. I took ap calc in high school and did way better there than in his class. His exams are extremely hard. He does pretty basic problems in class so I don't think his exam questions are fair. He's also not the greatest when asking for extra help on a problem from the homework.
Tips to pass this class: 1) sign up for Math34 2) do all homework/labs/worksheets 3) ask questions in class or go to his office hours(Adam's is Super Nice and helpful) 4) study off worksheets for the tests 5)study off previous tests when studying for final 6) labs have walkthroughs and are helpful 7) keep worksheets organized in a folder Good luck!
I do not recommend this class for math 172, the professor does not clearly explain the material, and goes way too fast on material. I just dont recommend at all
Handled the transition to online classes very well and made videos on Zoom that you could attend live or watch at a later time. Adams does a good job explaining the topics but It is still a calculus class so you will have to put in the time outside of class to be able to pass.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Adams personality is good, and he answers your questions. But he gives TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. He writes his own questions which are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT , so I dont really know whats the purpose of the homework if they dont prepare you for the test. Tests are wort 70% of your grade. Find a professor that makes math easier.
Now when I took this class I had a horrible time. I thought that the tests were terribly hard. I thought that everything was bad. But then I looked at the rest of calculus and I saw that this guy is an outstanding teacher. His part of Calculus is the only part that I remember. The tests seem very hard but can easily be simplified if you think.
Professor Adams means well and knows his stuff but here is what i don't like about him and the class When struggling he cant really do much and your basically on your own Uses protorio during exams which in my opinion invades your privacy Test is worth 100% of your grade if you bomb a test the hw and classwork don't help your grade by much
Adams is a nice guy but he gives a ton of HW on a program you have to pay for which is dumb. if i were you have someone help you because that is what i had to do in order to pass his class. He makes math seem simple but he makes it complicated and uses a proctor program for tests which in my opinion invades your privacy.
A really great professor. Super nice and helpful; will answer any questions in detail. Tests are difficult and I nearly got a B in the class but I studied hard for the final and brought up my grade. Work hard, take notes, study well, and stay on top of the homework. Hard class (Trig), but Prof Adams makes it possible if you actually try.
Ever since covid this guy is not it does not teach the class only gives PowerPoint then just gives definitions and formulas but no explanations. Very test heavy 30% test 45% final exam honestly homework means little to nothing in this class.
Professor Adams is a pretty chill and straight forward dude. You have to put in the time and try to study with people who know what they're doing. You should try to complete the homework. He gives these sheets in lecture I recommend you use those sheets and study them before your exams. They're going to help prepare you for tests.
The tests and the final are a combined 90% of your grade. The tests are much harder than what the study guides and homework prepare you for. The lectures are slow and easy problems are shown. The lecture videos are quiet and do not provide much information. The professor is a nice person. Just prepare to learn a lot by yourself.
Nice chill prof, but outside help like YouTube is basically mandatory if you want to succeed. The final when I took him had a question that was nowhere in my notes or lecture videos and tests are much harder than what's on HW/lectures. Also makes you install glitchy spyware (Proctorio) to take tests, that was fun and totally not stressful at all.
Prof. Adams is a nice guy, but the examples gone over in class and provided lecture videos are simple while the test questions are way harder than what we do on the homework and study guides. The lecture videos are also slow and quiet (aside from his computer noises) so basically you have to watch at 1.5x speed at max volume.
I recommend professor Adams to anyone wanting to take calculus or trig. His test questions are not the same as hw but they are definitely ones that you can solve if you have practiced homework problems enough. Professor Adams is very knowledgeable and approachable, so if you had difficulties understanding a concept, you can ask him for help.
Prof. Adams wants his students to put in effort if they truly want to learn the material and succeed. Practicing a lot of problems on the textbook not just the ones assigned, helps you greatly with the tests.
Professor Adams is an Okay instructor but is helpful if and only you ask him any questions directly through the lecture or online. The one issue I had with this class mostly was where it would be pretty obvious that a good portion of the class does not understand the material fully & the Prof. would see this is as the next test being easy to grade.
Austin Adams is the best!! He's so funny! He also grades well and answers the dumbest questions giving by students. Is super welcoming and actually enjoys office hours with students. He sets you up to do really well in Calc 2. Very easy on homework as long as you don't skip entire sections. Super nice guy!! You can actually stay awake during lecs.
If you're taking a math class, get this professor! He is super funny, cares a lot about his students, and answers any and all questions. He's accessible outside class for homework questions too. The exams are difficult, but study really hard, and you'll do fine. Homework isn't weighted heavily, so that removes a lot of stress.
He is honestly such a horrible professor. He does not do anything and the courses online he doesn't even do lectures I'm about to drop.
His not helpful you could not even ask a question about homework because he only says go to my office hours. horrible grading takes so long gives a lot of homework and plus you need to do online and labs homework. I would never take him again.
This teacher is the reason my most of students drop college because the teachers like Adams make everything so stressful on students.
Austin Adams is a GREAT professor. Super nice!! Always helpful. Gives tests that are a little harder than the homework so be prepped for that. Hilarious. Always wants questions and WANTS you to come to his office hours. Probably the best professor ever.
Adams is not a good professor he understands math but doesn't know how to teach it to his students. The day i went for help to his office hours he told me to drop the class instead of helping me understand it even do he new i was going to tutor every week he didn't care. If i could rate hem a ZERO i would.
Horrible professor.
Austin Adams does not know how to teach a classrom. Teaches random activists in groups instead of helping students understand course material. Tests heavy and does not help students.
As a person, he was actually pretty chill and understanding to a certain degree; However, he was pretty useless in terms of help because whenever I asked for his help, he would pretty much expect you to have already known about the confusion that you need help in (like prior knowledge). Overall, he SUCKS at teaching and you would fail in his class.
I felt like he was a great teacher and overall the class itself wasn't that hard if you asked questions and did homework. He was always willing to help if there was any confusion. He was also very interactive with class in fun ways. He always had review before test to prepared you. Also gave partial credit to answers on test, which helps!
I am taking Math 162 but it isnt an option here. He means well and wants to help us succeed. The tests are a little harder than the homework so make sure you do them as they are covered in the lecture, I didnt and I barely passed my tests. Open to questions before during and after lecture and during breaks and he tries to make math more enjoyable.
He clearly conveyed the material. The way he taught made it easy to understand the material He was good at answering questions and getting back with you promptly.
Very good professor with clear expectations. Was always more than willing to help outside of class with any questions I had about the course. The class is very test heavy, but I never felt as if the tests threw something that was harder than the homework. If you fully do all the homework and truly understand the concepts it's hard not to pass.
Prof. Adams was a great guy, but his teaching wasn't the best. He gave a LOT of homework, and the tests had questions that were much more difficult than the ones on the homework. He would give random pop quizzes so I would be aware of that. All in all, you will pass the class if you put in the effort.
He knows his math well and conveys it pretty clearly to the class, he gives pop quizzes here and then but they aren't to bad as long as you are actually studying the material. Even though his exams make up 90% of your grade, he is very merciful in the partial credit, you can get every problem wrong but still pass if you try. Also a chill and funny.
Very bad teacher doesn't help doesn't teach avoid him
Good teacher if you are willing to spend a lot of outside class time teaching yourself the material through homework. I found I never picked up much material during his lectures, they were long and briefly went over topics. If I was only taking this class I would take him again, the workload was a lot when taking three other classes.
Started with 35 students, ended with 15. Don't take this class if you also taking a lot of other courses or have a job or kids. SO MUCH work each week. 1st exam grade determines if you drop or not. Exams are 45% Weekly work/Labs 10-15% Final 30%. If you get 100% on ALL your weekly work, barely changes grade. Adam is nice, offers help, replies quick.
