VERY nice teacher who cares about students and teaching. Tests are difficult, but she drops the lowest test grade. Teaches with Powerpoint and posts on Blackboard. Learned a lot about weather and climate!
I really liked this teacher ~ she's hard to hear some times and doesn't always keep the best control (which is more of the students' fault than hers), but she's very clear with what you have to know, you'll learn a lot, and she drops your lowest score. Pretty sweet deal.
Her jack boots are soooo cool! Seems kind of sleazy, yet sweet.
The sweetest teacher Ever. I had her for a summer class and the class was fun. I never had an interesting and fun summer class. you'll learn alot from her because she relates to you, she understands students schedules are buzy, and she will drop your lowest grade.
SUCH A SWEETHEART! she genuinely cares about her students and she makes class interesting and fun. she definitely expects her students to take responsibility of their share of the learning process but she is always willing to try and help her students out. She even let us pick a few of the topics we wanted to cover
The class is not the most exciting, but she is a wonderful professor. Uses ppt slides and gives decent reviews for tests. At the end of the semester I felt as though I got more out of the class than just a science credit. Not too much homework other than a very straight forward report.
Really cool class - she talks a lot about barbecue. I heard that is all that she eats, that and pecan pie & sweet tea.
Loved this class...she lets you print out the power points and she goes over them in class..she will give a little info on the side so take notes...but all you got to do is study the power points and thats it....easy a
I love her! She is very easy to talk to, and she knows how to relate to her students. She is very good about answering questions, and emailing you back. She wants to make sure that we understand all the material.
Best professor on campus! She is super sweet and very understanding! :) Not the easiest class in the world, but i learned ALOT of interesting things in her class about Weather and Climate (Just as a warning, the Lab for the class is super difficult though). I would take her again if i could..
If you're like me, you hate anything that has to do with science. After taking this class with Professor Fujimoto-Strait, I have an apprecitation for it. She is SUPER helpful & doesn't mind staying after class to help you. Majority of the material is easy but it is challenging. She gives test reviews and has review days. I definitely recommend her.
Good professor. Easy class.
EXCELLENT teacher! Fuji is really sweet and extremely helpful. She really is passionate about what she does and cares about her students. If you are planning on taking this class I would only take it if you can get Fuji.
Very good teacher
Teacher is easy, drops lowest test grade.
Great prof. Changed my major (to geo) due to her weather & climate class. Teaches almost 100% from powerpoint and no book required. Very friendly and helpful to her students.
This class was honestly my favorite. The power points are straight to the point. If you attend class and know the power points well the book isn't necessary. I would take her for every class if I could. :)
Great teacher. This class was pretty hard, but as long as you study the slides that she posts online of the lectures, you are good to go. 3 tests with lowest grade dropped plus an easy assignment. If you do the assignment you pretty much make an A on it. I would take her again
Really good prof. drops the lowest test grade, attendance is fair. Everything is covered in lecture, & she makes it interesting. Is very knowledgable & fun. gives test reviews & reviews a lot in class. was not very excited about taking a weather class but I learned a lot & it she made it pretty cool.
If you fail her class you are a complete idiot. She makes it so easy! She explains everything and gives you the ppt. You dont really need the etxtbook just the manual for lab. She goes the best prof. you can have. hands down!! i wish i could take this class again
She is the best professor! Interesting lecture! very nice!
TAKE THIS PROF! she is the best professor ever. She makes everything so interesting and I actually enjoyed her class. The book in not required but she does take attendance. You will have to study some, but not a lot.
I took her for Weather and CLimate and she is AWESOME!!! TAKE HER! She only gives 3 exams and the final. She gives extra oints if the average wasn't high and she drops your lowest exam grade! she is GREAT! She is super clear with her Lectures & SUPER NICE & HELPFUL! If you go to class and study you will pass easily!
Super nice, super funny and super helpful, she makes the class fun to be in because she always has a smile on her face. If you study you can make an A her test usually come directly from the power points she lectures on in class which she has posted to blackboard. Depending on how everyone does she usually gives curves take her she is awesome!
The best prof. ive had at Sam, she's very friendly and helpful, fun, sweet and interesting. She actual makes a boring subject fun. take her! The class is very easy just be sure to study and will easily make an A in the course.
I didn't think this class was easy but I'm not a science guy. I got a D and I went to every class. Prof Fujimoto-Strait was really nice though and her lectures were interesting. I'll be taking her again.
I took this class over the summer and I found it to be pretty easy. Do the readings, look over the powerpoints and the tests should be fairly simple. Easy A if you read and understand the book. I really liked this class and found it really interesting.
LOVED HER!! She is so passionate about what she teaches and provides plenty of time to meet with her if you do not understand. Tests are from her notes which she explains in tons of detail. Definitely recommend her. It's only hard if you do not attend and don't study.
If you can take her, do it! She is very nice and clear with her lectures. She tells you whats on the test and what to study for. In class she will let you know when she's about to say a test question. Test aren't hard if you just pay attention in class and study a little bit. Go to class, she takes attendance and it could come back to haunt you.
I absolutely loved this class AND Professor Fujimoto. She makes everything so interesting - even when she talks about dirt. LOL. You do have to study for the exams though because the multiple choice questions can be "all of the above" or "none of the above" Want to take another class with her!!!!
Prof Fujimoto-Strait is super friendly and a great teacher but the exams are hard! Make sure to study and ask questions. She is very good about staying after class to help students.
I am really enjoying this class. Professor Fujimoto-Strait is very personable and does a good job presenting a balanced view on all the environmental issues we have covered so far. I actually look forward to class!!!
Great teacher, jack boots in the winter and stylish clothes when its warm. Saw her driving a really cool jeep, REALLY COOL!
She is the sweetest professor and I learned A TON about Weather! Loved this class!!!!
Amazing professor!!! never met her in person since I took the class online in the late start. She was very helpful and accepted my late work without taking any points off!!! Very good at replying to emails. Overall I did very well in this course by researching everything she asked!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR THOSE TAKING HER ONLINE!!!
Professor Fujimoto-Strait was very helpful in her feedback and she answered any questions I had. She was quick to respond and by the end of the class i was actually excited to learn about Geography, which came as a surprise to me! I actually signed up for this class by mistake looking for Geology! But I stuck with it and I'm so glad I did!
Ava was a fun professor! :) sometimes the lectures got a little boring, but most of the time they are really interesting! The way she talks and explains things makes you want to know more! The LAB for this class is a little hard, but she's always willing to help! :)
Prof. Ava was very friendly throughout the summer class. I was definitely hesitant since geography is not a strong suit of mine, but she was very laid back and helpful throughout the whole semester. Very friendly throughout all the emails and was very willing to be flexible with the assignments. I would highly recommend her!
Professor Fujimoto is the best. She always is smiling and is very passionate about geography and weather & climate. Her lectures were great and she posts everything on Blackboard. Labs are tough and the manual is required but Professor Fujimoto always was patient enough to go over the problems until everyone understood. Favorite professor!
Took Professor Fujimoto-Strait for weather and climate. She is a great professor who cares about her students. 3 tests total and 1 cloud project (SUPER EASY!) She also goes over what will be covered in lab at the beginning of the week. Overall highly recommend taking her.
Also teaches at Lone Star College - Answers e-mails, no tests, quizzes, or final exam. A lot of reading and watching Power Points, 1 fairly lengthy assignment per week, and a research paper due at the end of the semester.
This class as super easy! She is a really interesting professor! And by far my favorite class I have taken at Sam. The test are easy and multiple choice. And she provides access to her PPT before class.
I understand alot of people like her, but to be honest I felt like I was back in high school. Everyone did horrible on first test, average was 67 and blame was placed on students. In a lecture class of 90 people. The lab department for this class is terribly unorganized. Wonderful people, but if looking for just a credit to fill, its avoidable
Weather & Climate is a hard class but Professor Fujimoto does a good job and makes it fun. I have never met a more patient and friendly professor at Sam. I've gone to her office hours for help on stuff for her class and the lab. She is one of the good ones you remember after you graduate.
All lectures comes pretty much from the slides. Attendance is taken, but is only used for borderline grades. This class is not easy, it has hard concepts. You need to pay attention.
Ava is without a doubt one of the best professors I've had at SHSU. Her lectures were amazing, the only difficult part is the lab (she's not your lab instructor, but she will help you). I highly recommend taking Professor Fujimoto- Strait for Weather and Climate.
I loved her as a professor! She's so sweet and is always willing to help you. Lab is tough, and the lab instructors aren't the best but she is always willing to help and goes over lab material in class before everyone takes the quiz. Class was a little tough but she is no doubt a great professor.
Ava is a nice professor most of the time. She does not care about the quality of your work nor does she expect you to work hard. The only thing that bothers her or annoys her is attendance. She posts everything online and gives a lot of chances to turn in for full credit. Go to class and half ass do your work and you'll get an A
Took 2 classes from her. Favorite 2 classes at Sam.
I took this as an 8 week class. Very easy. Most of the homework answers can be found on quizlet. There is one 6-8page paper. I hate writing but was able to get an A on the paper and class!
Im not very good at any type of science but I did pass the course with a B. She allows a certain amount of absences but it is always good to go to class.. Her tests are from the powerpoints. If you look through them and understand concepts you will do good. Grading is based on tests and we has one cloud project, easy A.
I took this class because I LOVE meteorology. The class is interesting and the lecture is just amazing. There's 3 exams and a final. She drops the lowest grade of your 3 exams. If you want to get an A on science, try this course. I'll definitely recommend her.
easy course that also teaches you a lot of useful information
She is nice and is an amazing teacher! She will give you all information necessary so you won't fail
AMAZING! She post powerpoint's for you to print out & explains everything extremely well (repeats important things). Funny & very understanding & tells you what you need to know the LAB of the week. Sign in sheet for attendance she gives 2-3 free "skips". 3 test, lowest dropped. Group or Individual cloud assignment. Comprehensive final.
I loved Ava! She used powerpoints to lecture and gave them to us. Her test came directly from them and I never opened the online book. The labs were not very difficult at all and I loved her TA Agustina (: TAKE HER! She literally saved me from being expelled. She is so nice and helpful and wants you to pass. Just study and you will be fine.
online summer course for Lone star, 8 sets section questions(30 ?s each) where you can google the answers and one 8-10 page paper at the end. That's literally it. Super easy and emails back quickly and emails the class once a week to talk about which assignments are due (two a week). She seems super sweet and wasn't strict on deadlines
TAKE HER! If you need a science and this is an option, do it. I passed her class easily because the material is things you observe and discuss everyday. I almost changed majors because of her. She gave powerpoints which was also the study guide. If she draws or writes something on the board make sure to copy it down, it will help you. 10/10
She is a excellent professor . Very caring and clear on her expectations.
Ava is awesome! Her tests come from her PowerPoints so just study those and you'll be fine. She drops one of your lowest test grades. She was always so clear in class, I didn't need to ask her questions outside of class. 100% would recommend!!
Professor Fujimoto-Strait is great. Her tests are based off her power points. You still need to buy the book that comes with the lab manual since you turn it in for an easy 100 grade. Pay attention to lectures and study her power points really well.
She is so sweet! Her tests are based on her powerpoints, and she is a very easy grader. Her class is really fun, and her projects aren't boring.
Very sweet and funny and tells anecdotal stories that somewhat relate to the topic. Everything on the tests are on the powerpoints she goes over in her lectures and she posts them online. Super easy project worth 10% that is used to help your grade. 3 exams (lowest is dropped) and a final. Curves tests if needed.
She was a great professor. this class is something everyone should take. She will work with you and teaches very well. The lab could be hard if you don't go or pay attention.
The material Is boring. she lectures extremely heavy. Its four test and a project. no hw or anythink else. she talks about hawaii ( where she is from) 24/7 The test are HARD she adds alot of none of the above or all of the above questions on exams. her PP are mainly pictures not much explaing on them. she responds to emails quick. Lab is hard.
She's a nice professor, but I struggled in this class. It's not as easy as people say, the tests are difficult. She draws a lot on the board, so I would recommend her for visual learners. Her PowerPoints are helpful and ultimately why I got a good overall grade. From what I hear the other professors are harder, so I would take her again.
Ava was great. She was super cool when anyone had questions and really pushed us to talk and have fun in class. Her powerpoints were super helpful. She showed us how to be great note-takers and all of the class really trended upwards in grades with her help. The lab was easy and she even offered extra credit!
seriously suck at science and hate it. Thankfully this p rofessor gave out enough extra credit for me to still be able to pass this class. Test are not the easiest but study her PowerPoints it will help. She also has an Instagram where she post things that will help with upcoming exams. She wants her students to pass so she will work with you.
Ava is great! She is really one of the few GEOG professors that make this course fun. Lab was easy with her help and she really goes over everything on the tests. She lectures a lot, but she is really funny. If you aren't the best at science, you should take Ava. She really helps you to understand.
Took Ava for my lab class. Doable amount of work, no high expectations only downside is there is a printed manual that you have to mail in or hand in at the end of the semester. Being an online student I now have to take extra time out to travel to Huntsville or pray my manual gets delivered on it. Also, what about the trees??
This is the best professor I have had at SHSU! She works with all her students and want the best of them! I recommend printing the powerpoint, and take notes over what she says. Lab is not hard, make sure you get the lab manual, if you read it you will do fine! Ava is the best!
I had the online lab. The tests are a little tough if you're not a science person but, it's the lab so just do the work and you'll be fine. Hard to say if professor is good since it was online and it was all through lectures from someone else recorded a few years ago, but solid choice
I LOVE HER. She is so easy to talk to and makes lectures fun. Open notes on tests!
Our grade is based off of 4 tests, the lab manual, and an extra assignment. Ava is a great professor and gives us more than enough opportunities to excel in her class! She goes pretty fast during lecture so I recommend taking notes or looking over the PowerPoints before you go to class.
Ava is the best, she sets up this class in a way that the only way to fail is if you don't apply yourself. She gives soooo many resources to help pass. She also preps you for labs so that you'll know whats going on. Super sweet and bubbly. You will need a lab manual though, not a textbook.
She was one of the best professors who I've ever met. She was a caring and thoughtful professor who was willing to help students. Her lecture videos were so amazing and the lab quizzes were clear to answer. Take her classes! You won't regret it.
I loved Mrs. Fujimoto-Straight. She does not have a mean bone in her body. She interacts with the class a lot, and her lectures and quite long sometimes but you do learn a lot. I suggest showing up for the class because she does take notes on who shows up! You only have 4 exams, no homework honestly. The online lab was pretty easy. Take her classes
She is a fantastic professor, absolutely loves her job, and wants her students to succeed. 4 exams, no quizzes besides LAB, and extra credit opportunities, and make sure you get Hailey Richardson for your LAB TA she is fantastic as well and super funny.
Professor Fujimoto-Straits online weather and climate lab was easy! It was super straightforward and as long as you keep up with the work you will get an A. All of the lab quizzes are open note/book and the material/videos she posts are very helpful on the quizzes. She responds to emails quickly and is understanding!
The lab was amazing. Made sense of the classroom lectures. Clearly explained. Available for help either in person or online. Very positive outlook. Encouraging with difficult consepts. Took it one step at a time. Gave different ways to explain the information. Test questions made sense. Loved this lab.
I took the class online over summer, so there was a lot of labs each week. However, there were tons of reference material so it was very easy to use when you got stuck. The professor and assistants in this team are awesome, and answer any questions you have immediately. The material is not too hard.
She is Awesome. 10/10 Would take her again.
Professor Fujimoto-Strait was my favorite professor this semester. She is extremely caring towards her students and is really funny. There are 3 tests and a final with the lowest of the 3 tests being dropped. She responds to emails quickly and seems to always be ready to help if I asked. There is no professor I would rather take for GEOG 1401 than her!
all the labs are divided up and only 3-4 are due at a time. each lab there is a PowerPoint, video lecture and other materials sometimes. Each lab has a lab quiz which is OPEN note and can use GOOGLE to help. Quiz is timed but enough minutes given. There is one lab assignment but its reasonable. Have to turn in lab manual at the end!
Fujimoto was nothing but great during lectures and outside of class. Always had a smile on her face, made it as easy as she could for you to pass, very understanding when situations occur. She actually made me, and definitely others in my class interested in the subject matter.
Great professor
Dr. Ava is awesome! Her lectures are a lot of fun, she makes all of the units so entertaining! The textbook required is the lab manual that needs to be turned in towards the end of the semester. There are 4 exams, but she drops the lowest exam grade. Final grade is determined by your final lab grade + exam grades. Super fun and interesting class!
I had her for the LAB portion and it was VERY easy. I am taking her again next semester. She and the TAs are very accessible through GroupMe. 10 labs total, which only ever took 20 minutes max each.
Lecture- Ava is great about teaching to ALL learning styles- finding ways to keep everyone engaged. Lab- is 2 HOURS long, and is taught by a TA, but mine was close to my age making their stories and explanations more relatable. They had fun hands on activities that helped me to see weather and climate class content in every day life.
I have learned SO much in this class. I HATE science and this is the only science class I have enjoyed and know I will use everyday because of Ava and my Lab TA. The TA for LAB worked really hard to make sure we knew the information and understand all the content. I found myself ALWAYS wanting to go to LAB because of the hands-on learning!
Ava is a great professor in class. Her test are fair- NOT easy, but if you come to class/study you will be fine. Lab is hard but the TAs are willing to zoom with you to review content. You have to out in the work for labs- there are a lot of videos posted on blackboard which help. Read the manual that where lab material comes from.
Mrs. Ava is a very kind and courteous professor. She knows the material that she is teaching, but for some of my classmates and I, we found it difficult to understand how she was teaching, as she would go through a 20-slide PowerPoint in 10 minutes and we were left confused as to what we just learned. HIGHLY recommend taking her over any other prof
Professor Ava was very sweat. You are graded on 3 test, lab, and one (easy) assignment. Test are structured so that you can come back the next class day and retake the test as a group and get a better grade, if your satisfied with your grade then you just have the day off. She also lets out lecture early pretty often which was nice.
Took 3 classes with Professor Ava. She is very kind and friendly. Env Geog was my favorite because of all the topics and discussions we had in class. She and Dr. Strait (who also teaches) leave a lasting impression.
Professor Fujimoto-Strait was an amazing professor. You do have to make sure that you attend class and take good notes. If you don't understand something she is more than happy to help you. After you take the exam she lets you work as a group to make corrections on things you didn't do well and to review. Yes, there is a final and 4 exams.
Ava is a really good teacher, she takes attendance and explains what is happening in the labs even if you are taking them online. 3 tests including the final, she has a "2nd chance" exam each that is done with a group and averages the two scores. drops the lowest test (not the final). listen to her lectures!!!!
Ava is a great teacher! She is the sweetest person ever and genuinely loves her job. She does not want you to fail and tries her hardest. I will say the lab to this class sucks and is very hard, but her lecture is great! You definitely have to study for her tests, or you will not do good.
Would definitely take Ava again!!! She is very sweet and caring. Her tests are not easy so you for sure need to study for them. The lab is very hard and is hard to pass but the lab TA's are not good. Would take this class over any other one.
She is a great professor, her class is all lectures and 3 exams + the final which isn't the best but it factors in your lab grade as 25% too. She is very nice and understanding and wants you to succeed. Out of all the weather and climate professors I would take her.
She is super kind and makes the lectures funny and interesting. Really glad I took her.
Ava is a very good professor, she is very lecture heavy but attendance is not mandatory and she gives you practice questions for the tests. She also gives make up test days where you can do group work to get a better grade on the tests. If you study and show up you'll be fine, also take an online lab it's much easier.
She is SO kind and caring I would take her again. Lecture heavy, but she makes it easy to get through. Everything on the exams is on the PPTs so study those! The lab was extremely easy and my lab TA was so helpful and nice, so this class was an easy A. You're graded on 3 exams, one assignment, and the lab grade. Few things, but it's not difficult!
She was amazing even though I only had her for my lab but she was an amazing professor take her over anyone else!
Mrs. Fujimoto is one of the best professors at SHSU. Her lectures are fun and she really cares about her students. She is super nice and explains all of the material thoroughly. Tests can be challenging, but she posts the lectures online to study. 10/10 recommend.
Summer lab, lots of work at a fast pace. Easily available via Group Me. Answers questions quickly.
Professor Fujimoto-Strait's weather and climate lab is wonderful and not hard to pass at all. There are unit quizzes due every few months and weekly quizzes. There is also an easy lab assignment and lab manuals to be turned in at the end of the semester. Professor Fujimoto-Strait also provides plenty of supplemental materials and videos.
Ava is an amazing professor and works with you to help you to the best of her ability. As a non-STEM major she was phenomenal for Weather and Climate, highly reccomend!
Professor Fujimoto is incredibly kind and engaging. The lectures are thorough, and with unstuck ai and the posted slides, the tests are manageable. The lab could be challenging, but the TAs are helpful. Overall, a great class!
Ava has the golden combo for professors: knowledgeable about their field, enjoys what they teach, and engages their students. I would have been bored to tears in that class (since I just needed the science credit) had she not been the instructor. She's very down-to-earth and funny, she knows how to make her lectures interesting.
she was a good teacher she was really nice
Professor Ava gives amazing lectures and is always willing to help you with anything! This is an easy science credit
I did enjoy her lectures but didn't like the labs as much personally. Definitely one of the easier science courses do recommend if you need a science credit. She tries her best to help you pass so make sure you attend lecture.
She was a wonderful professor for online GEOL 1405 Lab. The labs were thoroughly explained and well adapted to an online setting. She was very responsive and helpful.
Such a good professor that clearly loves what she teaches! there are 3 exams and the last one is the final. Attendance not mandatory unless you aren't doing too good by the end of the semester, there she will look at your attendance as extra credit. No textbooks required for the lecture but a lab book is required for the lab. Definitely recommend!
really sweet professor. She knows what she's talking about and makes everything easy to understand. She made learning weather and climate fun to learn even as a cj major. In the lecture, the only grades are 3 exams and a final. Lab is the normal 10 quizzes each class. once again very easy and would take again!
take. there is no way to fail
Professor Fujimoto was a great lecture for me to take for weather and climate. Her lecture were directly the exams for the class and she helped out whenever she could. Definitely wanting to take her again if she is available for another lecture I might need. Highly recommend taking her if you get the opportunity you won't regret it.
Professor Fujimoto was definitely a wonderful, passionate weather and climate professor. Though there was a lot of material to cover for each test, I would still recommend this class over other possible science base credits.
Best professor to take for geography. She has a different exam set up (Group exams and Individual exams). The group exam has 10-15 questions from the exam that you will answer with a group. Then you will take the individual exam (50 MC questions), and she averages both exam scores. This is very helpful if you don't do well on your individual exam.
She taught GEOL 1405: Geologic & Natural Hazards Online Lab with Dr. Z. This was my second time taking her online lab, and I really enjoyed it. I loved filling out the lab manual because I enjoyed the class so much. I had to submit a report, but it was nothing complicated. I watched the videos she posted. I would definitely take her class again!
Very easy lab. There is a lab workbook that you do throughout the semester and quizzes on each lab there are a total of 10 labs. There's one "main project" but it is super easy!!
