This class has a lot of reading, but the lectures are interesting. The notes she gives are random, so you have to organize them yourself. The test are okay, multi choice.

Fairly simple class. Unorganized notes on the board are hard to follow. Videos are very interesting.
unorganized lectures, make it hard--gotta pay attention; very minimum work; otherwise an easy A
There is a lot of reading. Some of the articles do not seem relevant and they are long and not to the point. Really have to listen during lecturesand take good notes. Tests are alright, multiple choice and matching, too many short answer essays.
She is pretty aloof, but knows her stuff. 4 easy tests and 2 papers were the only assignments. Attendance is part of the grade. The thing I appreciated was that she was very open to questions and very available to talk to. She did cancel once because of her cat :).
very BIASED. I wrote a paper on some thing that she disagreed on and got a C, just cus it didn't match her opinion. otherwise, an easy class. 4 tests and 2 papers. make sure not to get on the bad side of her from the begginnig of class, cus then your grade won't be as good.
BIAS it made me very mad I was graded for disagreeing with her, very unorganized very unclear but easy common sense

She was VERY unorganized. She knew the material, but wasn't helpful in making the class understand it. She gave no study guides for the tests, just 100-150 pages to look over in the text. She took away points in my paper because she disagreed with me. She is not a fair grader. I recommend DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HER!
She didn't actually teach the subject...she got carried away on a current event then expected us to know everything she didnt teach for the test.
Very unorganized teaching.
Easiest class ever, she may not have the best teaching or organization skills, but she grades really easy and the tests are right out of the book.
Probably one of the biggest tree hugging hippies I've ever met. Instant amnesia walking into this class. I swear she breathes sleeping gas. Bring a pillow.
raging liberal idiot
She somehow incorporates politics into everything about this class, but she means well and is one of the easiest graders I've ever had. An easy A if you can get through the boredom.
she was a good teacher. knew the material well.
Good teacher, easy to follow, easy to get when needed clarifying,

she doesnt just blab on all day about whats in the text book..she gives good examples of how the class relates to our everyday life. I took her summer class and there was only 5 assignments the whole time..easy A without even crakin the book...and you actually learn something interesting.
Easy prof. Classes are kinda interesting. Test are book-based and some essay questions you can totally BS your way thru. Study a good amount and u will do good. A is not tough to get. Has a lazy eye, so it's weird when u think she is talkin to you...or the guy behind you...
I took several classes with her and she is by far my favorite sociology teacher. She reviews topics that are going to be on a test and has class discussions over interesting topics.
Ava was a pretty good instructor. Many of her exam questions were vague though. Depending on the perspective, there could be multiple answers. Major themes of the class were Social Conflict Theory(liberal pov) and Structural Functionalism (conservative pov). I feel like Ava favored social conflict perspective test answers.
Lectures on topics that interest her. Strays from the textbook often. Very strong opinion towards the left and I really feel like she should teach in the middle and give her OpEd less frequently. Opinion does matter but when an instructor grades based on their opinion it can become unprofessional.
Excellent professor teaching students to look at issues from Sociological viewpoints. Ava is very engaging and encourages expression of all points of view, especially those differing from hers. Students who complain about her are simply lazy. I witnessed classmates not paying attention, text messaging, etc - then blaming the professor.
Great teacher !
She's a really nice teacher, always willing to help and loves sociology! Her tests are easy, she even gives you a study guide that lists everything that's gonna be on the test. Take notes and listen in class, it'll end up on the test!
she will help you on her lunch if need be. she is an amazing teacher and believes in what she speaks about, i wish she taught some less "liberal arts" type classes so that i could convince myself they would count towards my major!
worthless class, boring teacher, nuff said
ava is absolutely awesome!!! definitely recommend taking any of her classes, she is very helpful and educated on the subjects she teaches! and she is just a super cool person!
She is extremely biased. She grades on whether or not she likes you or now. Be sure to make your answers match her liberal biases.
One thing is she really cares about helping you, she will make time to sit and go over anything. She's a very pleasant lady. Her lectures are a bit boring and half the time I didn't know what she was talking about, but she definitaly knows her stuff. Easy, easy class.. all take home tests. Just put a little effort; you'll do fine.
Her tests and reflection papers are really easy and she gives you study sheets with everything from the test. Her lectures are really boring but are helpful for tests. I got an A in the class with out even trying.
Ava is a great prof, and she cares deeply for her students, and especially, her subject. Don't mistake her liberal/socialist bias as communist rallying; you will only be highlighting your ignorance. Give her a chance, try her perspective, challenge her views if you disagree. Anyone who participates in class and does most of the reading will get an
Liberal biased, teaches from one perspective. Grades are biased by political views. Gives no constructive criticism just reduces grades with no explanation. How can a person learn if they are not told what to improve? Hates capitalism and America. If you are a white male or conservative prepare to pull out your hair. Horrible Experience.
Very helpful, always willing to coach if you need help. Directions are vague, and lectures aren't organized. Don't try to take notes. Little book use, except for stats once. Is Liberal, but doesn't grade unfairly. Most important key to papers, be Very Clear and almost argumentative. heavy grader on grammar. Passionate! Made me love Sociology.
Had Ava and thought she was very soft-spoken and kind. Her class is not an "easy A" as her lectures are very scattered...had a hard time taking notes from them. Tests are incredibly easy, and she takes attendance at every class. She doesn't believe in D2L. Buy the book and use her test study guides as well as attend every class and you'll do well.
My most horrible teacher at Normandale. Classes are super boring, she takes what i thought would be a fun class and made it super boring. The papers are eacy, but the exams are tough. I never could even follow what she was ever talking about. It was my most dreaded class.
Ava is very liberal. Let's get that out there straight away. She is incredibly knowledgeable on the schools of thought in Sociology, but will willingly admit if she's out of her depth. Her tests are quite easy, and the papers are as well. Read your book every week, and chime in 1-2 times per class, and you'll do well.
Don't expect to have a lively class debate. Teacher will answer questions if you ask them though. Takes attendance every day. Pretty much just read what she tells you to read and use common sense.
Ava's class was very dry. One of the required texts was written for interpersonal communication. I was also very disappointed that Ava completely has dismissed the nature side of nature vs. nurture debate. She had us write a 7-10 page lit review. 3 tests and a final. Ava is a nice women but I wish I took the class with someone else.
Her notes, lectures and instructions are far from clear. It is useful when someone tells you why they're a credible source, but she likes to talk about herself a little too much. Didn't feel like I got what I paid for.
Very liberalally biased. Went to join Occupy MN. Spoke from mostly her political perspective. Never read anything was gone for a whole week, took a test and got an A because I just answered all questions with something about our unfair system. That being said, very nice and compassionate woman.
Defintely one of the most boring classes I have ever taken. The lectures are pointless most of the time. If she didn't take attendence, half of the class would only show up on test days. Difficult to get an A in this class. I got my first B.
Ava is a very compassionate woman. She is helpful and helps you one on one if you go to her. Though she can surprise you on exam days with some questions that were never brought up (but is in the text). Anyone can do well in this class if they are serious.
I definitely recommend taking this class with Prof Rosenblum. Ava is such a kind-hearted and genuine woman who loves to teach sociology. As long as you pay attention, read every now and then, and turn things in on time you will get an A. Definitely recommend this class!
Very easy subject. The review guides basically give you the answer to each and every question that will be on the test. Lectures are long and boring, but otherwise she makes the subject very easy!
She was an excellent teacher, open to listening to her students and guiding them to learn the "real" truths about the issues of the day.
Soooooooooooooooooo boring. Painfully boring class. I was looking forward to taking this course, but the only thing I'm doing is reading A TON of material and classroom discussion isn't very lively. She's not very engaging...
I took Womens Studies with Ava. Although it was a lot of reading, she offers engaging class discussions and minimal homework. We had a few take home exams which were pretty simply. Also, it was easy to skip class and not get behind. We also watched interesting documentaries on important and relevant topics.
Honestly the most boring class I have ever taken, her lectures are not interesting at all. I feel like if I hadn't read the text I wouldn't have learned anything. She is not very engaging, and anytime I would state an opinion or ask a question it felt like she was attacking me when she responded.
She is a good professor and will help if you ask for it. Her lectures are very dry and long, I found it hard to follow along when her voice almost puts you to sleep. Often only discuss things with her after class, she gets irritated if you go up to her in the beginning of class. She is set on her views, be careful what you say in class discussions.
All tests are take home exams. This makes an otherwise boring class very easy. This class was one of the most boring classes I've ever taken, the lectures are long and repetitive of what's in the textbook. As long as you just read the areas of the book the take home exam asks for you'll do fine.
Amazing professor. Assignments were a lot of fun, and her lectures were very useful. Every opinion is welcome, and discussions are interesting. I would take a class with her again.
Extremely boring. Tells meaningless stories that barely apply to the teachings. Also will stop class to call out if someone is being 'Disruptive'
She is super good at wasting time in class and it is super easy to show up, not do anything and still pass. I haven't paid attention all year and have been on my phone instead. Super easy class, but she is kinda annoying.
Ava is probably one of the most boring teachers I've ever had, but yet she was one of the easiest graders ever. All of her exams (including the final) are take home, and are guaranteed A's, as long as you put effort into them. She might bore you to death with her lectures, or crazy political views, but this class is definitely an easy A.
I honestly don't understand all the bad reviews here, Ava is easily one of the best professors I've had at Normandale. Some say her lectures were boring, but I found them very helpful and interesting for the assignments she would assign. She was also current with the subjects on hand and would show us YouTube clips for examples. I highly recommend.
She's a very well-intentioned lady who does her best to make sure all her students feel welcomed and heard, but honestly, taking her class made me lose faith in the social sciences. Depressingly easy to pass, the best part of her class was the textbook. The dreaded discussions are fluffy, repetitive, and pointless. I'd avoid.
I am currently enrolled in her sociology course, and saying I'm disappointed is an understatement at best. All of her tests are take home and can be easily googled or answered based on online notes. I honestly haven't learned anything about sociology. Based on my observations, her political views have affected the content of the subject too much.
Ava is extremely biased and it seems as if the second she starts to lecture, she flies off to her own world. All my classmates dreaded coming to class, and most skipped more than half of the semester. Very boring lectures, but the tests are take home and quite easy. Fairly easy class, but super boring and I learned nothing from her.
Bless her heart Ava tries & you can tell she cares about us as people but she is probably the most disorganized person I have ever met. She openly admits to losing tests and as soon as I went to her office I understood why. If you dont want to hear about Trump dont take her classes, he gets brought up almost everyday. Easy A but you wont learn much
Ava is a beast. No homework, easy take-home tests, super easy grader, etc. If you want/need credit, take her class because dear god you will pass with a breeze. Her lectures are insanely boring and clearly biased, but good to get other homework done during her class.
Ava is a very kind teacher and is very knowledgeable, but she is EXTREMELY biased. She will only show views and videos that she supports and will not even consider the other side to an argument. Would not recommend honestly, there are plenty of other good Sociology teachers at Normandale.
Do not take this class if you want to learn! It is an easy "A" but that is the only good thing of her class.
Ava is hilarious and doesn't even try to be. She is a caring and understanding professor, and although lectures and class activity can get boring at times, I'd rather have that than some of the ridiculous teachers I've had who care more about themselves and their ego's than they care about the students. Easy class to pass!
don't know why the reviews are so negative. yeah, her class is boring but its an easy A as long as you show up most of the time and do her assignments which aren't super hard. def recommend if you want to get a sociology class out of the way. ALSO- YOU DONT NEED TO BUY THE BOOK (at least for soc1104) legit u can find all answers online
She's a very nice lady and is caring. I liked how she was flexible with me for the final because I had to leave the semester early. She tends to go long in her lectures and go off track. Overall, easy A if you're willing to sit in class for two hours and listen to her talk and other people's opinions.
The class is super easy, you only need to go through the exam review sheet she hands out to get an A on the exam. She cares way too much about her political opinion. She knows the subject well but doesn't do well explaining it. Her course syllabus(schedule) is not clear, meaning you won't know whats on the exam until she hands out the review sheet.
Ava is probably one of the most scatter brained proffers Ive ever had. She expects you to show up on time but sometimes forgets she has a class and wont show up herself. Its the easiest class if you want an easy A, just be ready to read cause she doesnt teach anything in her lectures that isnt already in the book.
So glad to be done w/ this class. Ms. R is very one-sided (social justice liberal). You have to go w/ her views to do well in this class. Class was badly organized and all over the place. I did the readings; didnt even seem to really matter (not many seemed to do them). Low points total for class so everything counts. If you take Ms. R, good luck!
One of the best professors at normandale, really nice and respectful towards her students. The class is easy and the text is available free with a given website; Dont get the negitive comments.. it is not that bad and she makes sure you get it and is really lenient on her grading, Highly recommended!
very unorganized, lecture very boring that is not even related to the subject
Very opinionated, and wont look to the other side of things, you have to agree with her political view to get good grades on her papers. Free online textbook, so dont buy the one she reccomends. Lectures are just her ranting. Just really have to read the textbook and you'll get an A.
I do not understand why Ava has some bad reviews. Although she is strong in her beliefs, she also lets other people express theirs. You will always know exactly what is on the test and she is flexible with attendance. Very nice lady!
Ava is a nice lady. But, she doesn't use any slides or references for notes. Classes seem all over the place with no clear outline. She will write a few things on the board that are illegible. The same goes for grading papers and tests. I don't feel like I learned much in her class. Her tests are at high school level. Easy A w/o notes or attendance
You don't even have to show up, but her grading format is horrible one point will make or break from an A/B. Easy class but the lectures were a waste of time.
Lectures are freeform, so its difficult to know how to write notes when the professor begins chasing tangents. Specific tangents are incorporated into the exams, so attending class can only help. Otherwise, Ava is nice. As the other reviews say, she is highly opinionated. Most professors are, so I hope thats not a deal-breaker for you.
The only good thing about Ava's class is that there is no textbook you need to purchase. That being said, she's really just not great. One of those professors who cares way more about her ego than her students. Uses ancient methods in terms of lectures and taking attendance. I agree with a lot of her views, but she won't keep quiet about hers.
Ava is one of the worst teachers I've ever had in my life. I would not recommend her to my worst enemy. Her syllabus is not organized, helpful nor makes sense. when peers of mine have tried to bring things up/ talked to her she either doesn't listen to you or send you away, handwriting is unreadable, very involved in herself and very one sided.
Mrs. Rosenblum's makes passing her class so easy. There are 3 tests, 2 essays and 1 final in the entire semester. Her tests are easy because she gives you an outline before each one with everything you need to know. Her lectures can be boring but take her if you want and easy A, especially if you have other hard classes and need the balance.
She's incredibly disorganized, the classes she has seem pointless because she never really has anything planned. For whatever reason she is very defensive, we were reminded about 4 different times that she has more education than all of us. I would not take her class ever, I'm sad because I was very interested in this course.
I honestly really enjoyed Avas class. Ive taken her twice and loved both classes with her. I think shes a great professor, if you have a childish, high school mentality then dont take her. The kids in my evening class were very rude to her. You always hear the bad things about the professor, but not the students. She made the class easy.
Ava is kind, caring, & smart. She wants her students to learn about important topics and become better people! Her class is interesting and an easy A if you read and attend lecture. For everyone who says her lectures are dry, did any of you participate or did you just sit silent in your seat? PARTICIPATE if you want her class to be interesting!
She is super nice and will give help when needed. Highly recommend.
Ava's lectures are incredibly boring but her class is SUPER easy to pass! She had a clear syllabus of entire semester. ZERO homework in my sociology class! You were supposed to read weekly but I never did and still got an A+. Three 10 question exams, two 3 page papers, and one 13 question final exam. SO easy and she drops the lowest exam grade!!!!
Yall LISTEN take her class its the easiest A all her tests are so easy yessss I recommend this class and she grades fast and the sweetest person ever fr.
Prof. Rosenblum is an easy A but for anyone who actually wants to learn anything or wants to pursue sociology STAY AWAY!!! She does not give clear grading criteria, she is not helpful, and she rants for 50 minutes with no clear message. People like her because she gives away A's for free but otherwise not a good professor and she cannot help you.
She's the prof who asks for participation but doesn't listen to anyone who disagrees with her. Terrible outdated textbook. Just don't do it. The easy A isn't worth 17 weeks of agony.
Ava is one of the best professors I have had. I thought she was a brilliant! She had an organized class, a clear syllabus, a great textbook, and always came up with excellent class discussions. I enjoyed the YouTube clips she would present to the class, and the take-home exams were a piece of cake. She always responded to e-mails, highly recommend.
Professor Rosenblum was incredibly nice and caring. I had gotten sick where I had to turn in an essay late and she gave me no late points off and even reached out after the fact to see how I was doing. I would really recommend taking this professor. I really enjoyed this class.
This class was very easy. Yet, it was also super interesting, and the discussion aspect of the class was very informational. If you're even slightly interested in women's studies, take this class!
She is so disorganized in her course schedule and syllabus and takes forever to get back to you if you have any questions, only to respond with the simplest of emails and usually failing to actually answer the question. She does not know how to use consistent formatting, correct punctuation or capitalization and that really bothered me lol
Amazing class! Super Easy! Professor Rosenblum provides great feedback on assignments, and is very understanding.
She's kind of all over the place during lectures and they never seemed to have a point, but the tests were easy and the papers weren't bad. She is accomodating which helped me at the end of the semester. She was a tougher grader than I expected but as long as you follow the rubric and explain thoroughly on tests and papers, it's not a difficult A.
Ava was an extremely weird grader, I ignored her reviews because I didn't really care to deeply learn sociology... But I learned nothing, like. at all. She never says your answers aren't adequate nor does she give reasoning- she just takes off points. We had 2 papers and 4 exams the entire semester. That is it. DO NOT TAKE its a waste of time & $.
There are so many papers you have to write in the class, but they're easy to get an A on. We never took any quizzes, discussions weren't mandatory. If you have to take this class and you're not a sociology major and want an easy A, take it with her.
Had her for intro to women's studies and intro to pop culture. very clear assignment criteria and as long as you do the discussion posts and exams you will most likely do well. I would definitely recommend her!
This is my second class I've taken with Ava (1st was women's studies) and she was equally amazing! I learned so much and she is so understanding and helpful if you have problems, but you have to actually try on the papers. I didn't read the chapters but put it in effort on my papers and never got below a B. I would 100% recommend her for any class!
This was an incredibly easy class that provided a nice break in my schedule. Assignments were easy and straightforward. Essays were easy too. This class wouldn't be for you if you don't like discussion posts or reading from the textbook. Every once in a while she would post a lecture for us to watch that could be hours long, so be aware of that.
Ava was a joy and the class was an absolute breeze. Online asynchronous. Easiest 3 credits I've ever earned. Great class to pair with a heavy science load. If you like a really involved professor this may not be for you, but if you value ease of learning, light workload and a chill professor, take Ava.
Very easy class to get an A. Minimal work to do and class discussions are easy. A couple of exams and 2 essays. Somethings were very interesting and I enjoyed this class.
You can tell Ava cared about her students. She gives amazing feedback and grades quickly for the most part. No homework in the class besides the reading and a discussion once in awhile. She responds very quickly outside of class when needed. This class was an easy A. 4 take home exams in total. Take her!!
in general the class is easy, 2 reflection sheets, and 4 tests. class was boring, I didn't learn anything, she's always telling her life story barley teaches, it felt like I was teaching myself more. she doesn't care about your opinion, and if you disagree with her then oh boy!
Ava's teaching style is veryyyyy slow as far as lectures go, I hardly went to them but the times I did I could not keeps my eyes open. Luckily the class was very easy so I just did all the work on my own time. If you take her I would recommend doing the same.
The worst professor I have ever met. She will not learn anything and will evaluate your work based on your opinion, religion or background, she is extremely racist and should be kicked out of college.
This class was an easy A, but if you want to actually learn about sociology I suggest looking for someone else. The material is either stuff you already knew or would never need to know. The work wasn't difficult; the only busy work was weekly discussions. She's not great with D2L but kept in touch when she had technical issues on the course page.
This class was very textbook-heavy, but I did not mind that at all. I enjoyed learning at my own pace. The tests were not bad at all, and there were two papers. I found this class to be easy and enjoyable! I do not understand why some people dislike Ava so much, I thought she was a good teacher. A little hands-off, but not impossible to reach.
Very easy professor. Show up and pay attention and you'll probably get an A
This class was "meh" at best, and disappointing/boring at worst, textbook readings, discussions, tests, and an essay. While she was kind, it seemed she put no effort into this class. After the first 10 weeks, there was no other information given, and at one point not even posting for 2 weeks. Disappointing as I love the subject.
This class is an easy A if you just show up and pay attention. The lectures can be a bit slow, but the work is light - mostly just readings and occasional discussions. I found unstuck AI really helpful for reviewing the material. Overall, a chill class to pair with a heavier course load.
