Seems like an easy class, but his tests are just insanely difficult. The good news is the final is not cumulative, 3 tests throughout the semester. Pop quizzes at the end of some of the classes, he treats these as bonus points.
Sometimes hard to understand due to accent. No homework, just tests and pop quizzes that are bonus points. Rarely used book - he teaches straight from the book and uses slides. Doesn't review before tests and doesn't go over tests at all. Study hard and you'll pass....
Get ready to teach yourself statistics.
Talks too much about his work experience, and has a thick accent but does teach the material. Go to class and you won't need the book. Tests are exactly like the homework he posts online.
Has a thick accent which makes it hard to understand sometimes. Test are almost the same as homework that's posted on eLearning. I'd still read the book b/c there are couple questions on test that are from the book.
Man, did people ever complain about this guy! Yeah, he has a bit of an accent, but not too bad. The subjects he teaches can be rough, but he gives you every chance to succeed. Optional/bonus homework covers pretty much everything. Quizzes for BONUS points. You WILL have to take notes and keep your HW up to date, but he's always there to help you.
You will teach yourself everything in this class. He goes through the material as if you already know it and if you ask a question, he does a terrible job of explaining. Gives a test on using excel but doesn't teach really how the proper formulas needed to solve. He says, "you have to figure it out."
Great proffessor
WORST TEACHER EVER!! I cannot emphasis enough that this teacher is HORRIBLE! I have gone to him many times for help and each time he tells me that I am not "frustrated" enough for him to help me. He talks so fast that you cannot understand him and if you ask a question, he will not answer it at all. Nothing in the class is clear. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
I do not recommend this professor to anyone that I like. You will end up teaching yourself everything, and if you do go to class, he will confuse you more. If you ask him a question, he will simply tell you to pay attention in class and look at the book. Worst class ever.
3 tests non cumulative: not easy pop quizzes: easy. Make sure you study every slide if you don't go to class
I highly recommend taking, seems easier then most of the others.True:you mostly teach yourself the material but the class is set up for students to get an AorB. 3 tests non cum. Quizes:he gives you similar review problem prior, so they are easy.Take all the quizes and study them and ppts for test.MAKE A STUDY GROUP things can be taught to eachother
Extremely unhelpful. I've taken this class before at my old school and Sethi's approach is utterly frustrating and overly time-consuming. Prepare to be annoyed everyday by him favoring MS Paint over writing on the board--hard to read, takes forever for him to write/draw. He does not include all grades into the final average and is never available.
If you want to have to teach yourself Stats and then bond with all your classmates through mutual disdain about your professor, Sethi is your man. He makes such simple concepts so unnecessarily complex... Prepare to never look forward to class.
OMG. This guy is awful. Wont listen to your questions, wont go over the problems you facing difficulty with, talks really really fast "OUT THERE" <<< U will get this, when you take his class ;)Very fast talker and a very bad accent. You have to literally translate, what he's saying. And on top of that, the way he explains things further confuse ..
Professor made a class that seemed like rocket science fun and enjoyable. He made statistics seem interesting and related it to real life events. He was very clear and was able to explain complicated things well and show how he derived his answers.
Great Professor! He truly cares about the success of the students and gives bonus quizzes throughout the semester. He used great real life examples to help the students learn the material. Stats is not an easy class and takes lots of time and dedication to learn the material but he made learning the material intriguing.
This is a tough class, but Prof. Sethi makes this class very interesting. You get what you put into it. I learned a lot and will be able to use it in real world scenarios. I really enjoyed this class. Great Professor!
ba 3360 is a hard class that sethi will try to dumb down. many opportunity for bonus quizzes/homework that will also be similar to the test. highly recommend going to class. grading is fair. he will work with you, especially with the whole class in regards to extra credit. be prepared for the 2nd and 3rd test
This professor does have an accent, but he is very knowledgeable on the subject. He tries to relate problems to the real world. He gives opportunities to earn extra points on quizzes. If you show up, and do all the assignments and quizzes you will get and A.
Very caring and reasonable professor. He really cares if you succeed in his class but it is up to you to study and do well. I recommend taking his class. You will learn a lot.
This professor is extremely knowledgeable and he expects you to understand the concepts for the exam. You can find in him in his office ready to take students questions. I enjoyed his practice questions because they really helped me learn the topics. Take this professor if you are a hard worker and ready to put in the time.
Pretty great professor to take for Stats or Operations Mgmnt. Most test material is from his slides. Will take things slow and answer any questions if you ask him to. Take all quizzes, they really help! Practice all problems and you'll get it.I took him for both classes cause I liked his class style. It worked for me & I got an A in both classes.
Sethi is a good teacher but I still had trouble on some of the exams. I didn't read the book which I think you should. Hm wk is easy which will help boost your grade. He seems pretty fair with extra points and the last exam is optional and can replace your lowest test grade.
Prof. Sethi truly wants students to learn. I go to rate my professors and pick the instructors that students tend to complain about the most. These professors tend to be the ones who actually teach rather than spoon-feed. Prof. Sethi teaches students to use common sense to solve problems instead of trying to memorize crazy formulas.
Professor does not follow the text! Power points not always helpful because he uses shortcuts...if you forget those...you are in deep trouble because the book will make little sense after his shortcuts! Beware his TA is awful. This is an easy class if you can avoid the pitfalls.
I have no words to describe how horrible my experience was in this class
SOOOOO Difficult
he will not answer u if u ask him qns, don't care whether students are learning or not, looks angry and talks bt himself more than important topics to be covered
WORST PROFESSOR I have ever taken. I was warned, WISH I HAD LISTENED!! When you ask ?'s, he doesn't answer, he just moved on. He was critical about Americans & how they learn math. More concerned with impressing students with his Macro skills then teaching the necessary material. Maybe he use to care about teaching, but I think he doesn't anymore
Very difficult class is you are not already good with statistics.
Statistics is not easiest subject. The professor uses logic to make what is a hard subject, easier. It seemed some students were not used to this. Memorizing power points slides is not going to help you in this course. He very willing to help but you have to speak up, keep asking, and participate to do well. Don't skip the lectures.
Sethi is a great professor! Stats can be extremely confusing and he teaches in an unconventional way (a more effective way). He explains stats in more of a common sense approach, not with all of the formulas, and it makes so much more sense. You are allowed a small cheat sheet for the exams. I made an A and I recommend taking him!
I should have listened to the bad reviews. Take a different teacher! Does not give reviews and exams are very difficult. Does not care about students. Worse teacher I have had at UTD.
Stats made interesting and easy to follow,Even 4 hour classes did not seem tiring and were forever involving n engaging
Great professor. Stats is not an easy subject to teach although professor S. offers some great examples with plenty of visual diagrams and drawings which I felt greatly helped with understanding. He focuses on understanding the underlying concept rather than understanding formulas and whatnot, overall great teacher. Also, he cracks funny jokes
He does not give a written review. very boring to listen to and teaches at a fast pace. 80% of students failed the second with the average grade below a 60 test and he only gave a 7 point curve. retake was just as hard. He has his heart in the right place, but overall he is very bad at conveying the info. unless info is known already you will fail.
Don't listen to the one's giving Sethi a bad score. He genuinely wants students to learn, but not what he calls the "mechanical" way with remember formulas etc. More like theory. It isn't an easy class, but you won't get anywhere in life looking for the easy way out. Most of the fall 2012 reviews are bad because our teacher was pregnant.nothisfault
He is a great professor. he truly wants students to learn and his homework and quizzes will be greatly helpful.
He's a really good teacher. if you do all quizzes and homeworks, you do well on exams. interesting class.
quizzes & hws are easy. textbook is not required. everything is on the slides. exams are hard & sometimes long. He tries to trick you by giving you unnecessary info & wording the question where you have no idea what he's asking. JUST HATED THIS CLASS!
Not the best professor, students are required to go the extra mile in studying to get a good grade. Textbooks, notes, homework, quizzes and attendance are a MUST. Again, it's possible to pass...just need a lot of time to study.
This professor tries to be helpful in the beginning of the class, but he he gets upset when you ask him to review quizzes or homework. He seems to be always in a rush to leave. He skips most slides and he basically just covers the formulas. Not what I expected. So, if you really want to learn something, I would recommend another professor.
Professor got very agitated if you don't know how to do the calculations prior to class. All quizzes are online via Blackboard. All tests are in the testing center. He doesn't believe in giving review for tests. Very hard professor to communicate with. Would not take him in another class because of his stye of teaching.
I actually liked his style of teaching. If you go to class and do the online quizzes, you should do fine on the tests.
He has an accent which leads to a communicational handicap, however u can do well in this class by reading the textbook. He will get upset if u ask to be spoon fed. If pay atention 2 exampls in clas n do quizzes u shud get a B as minimum. I noticed people who do bad in this class dont have textbook. GET IT. You can't survive this class otherwise.
He is so bad, do not give a lot of time for his quiz or hw which are value a lot cause most of it is the tests..Finally , his TA cant answer his quiz or Hw funny
He is very organized, but his exams are so difficult..He ask you to depend on yourself and do not cheat for his HW and Quiz, But at the end he do not curve his grade.
I would Strongly Suggest Students to take course under him.He taught us very well and I am very satisfied and happy.Home works are mainly to make students to learn statistics with Excel. If you do well in your home works and quizzes, you don't even have to study for Exams at all. You will learn a lot by taking his class.
Professor uses outdated techniques in his course. Lots of errors in his assignments, and exams that he ignores to fix. Exams are long and there is never enough time to complete the whole exam.
Professor is just too lazy giving out grades. Makes students wait till the end; does not respond to emails. Exams are too long and there is not enough time to complete the whole exam.
He is very organized. From day one you are aware of the dates of assignments, quiz and test. The way he teaches is very good as he uses simple techniques to solve complicated examples. He teaches both excel and manual methods which help a lot. I would suggest to take homework and quiz seriously as they both help a lot in exams.
He is one of those professors who would like you to learn and get good grades at the same time. Even though the course is high on arithmetic, he makes a point to explain everything. Wont let you learn the cumbersome formulae, very practical approach. He makes it a habit to have review before each test to make sure everyone is on the same page.

If you want to really learn please join this class. Be attentive in your class along with your quiz and assignment. Nice professor. He is very approachable and helpful too. Practical approach, make you study, make you understand the concept, nothing like you have to rote.
Makes difficult concepts easy to understand.
I enjoyed taking course OPRE 6301 during my first semester at UT Dallas. I use to be scared of Probability topic because my concepts were weak since high school. But professor explained it in an excellent way by using practical examples instead of making us memorizing complex formulas given in textbook like Bayes Theorem. Outstanding experience!!!
He has difficulties in communicating and explaining the concepts in English. Just runs through the slides, uses old techniques
This professor does have an accent, but you will be used to it before you know. He is very instructive and will try to answer everything you ask. However, this is a hard course, if you want an A you have to work for it. Class attendance is not mandatory.
This is a difficult class but he was easy to follow and was able to relate everything to real world examples so you could understand why you were doing the work which helped me learn. You must attend class and do the assignments but ultimately I thought he made a tough subject easy to learn.
Explain concepts really well and actually takes the time to make you sure you understand the subject well. Does review sessions before tests that is very helpful.
Attend Class, Revise what is taught and make sure you do the quizzes before you take the test. And there you are.. with an A and equally amazing understanding of Statistics.
You need to be attentive in class in order to understand the basics and homework assigned gives better understanding about the subject.
Dr. Sethi teaches in a very conceptual way. That is, he does not spoon feed formulas nor are his quiztest questions cookie-cutter. His tests are challenging and long, but if you learn the concepts it is easy to apply the information to the question. Focus on learning WHY and DRAW A PICTURE (e.g normal curve) for each problem.
Dr. Sethi is a very good professor for Statistics. His class is good, interactive and example based. Course structure is balanced with a good blend of assignments, quizzes and exams which are very well divided as the course is vast. He makes the basic concepts clear with formula and excel based learning. I highly recommend his class.
Could not understand what he taught.
Explains concepts perfectly and in an easy to understand manner. Lots of homeworks - time consuming but that helped me understand the subject. Tests are tricky. Would recommend his class though. Great guy!
Huge class strength will make your learning harder. Around 160 students in a class, correct me if i am wrong. And his teaching is HILARIOUS!!!!
He just wants you to learn. His hws and quizzes are very easy. Great flexibility in submission. Takes review lectures before exams and you wont even need to memorize formulas. Can use cheat-sheets for exams.
Explain the concepts clearly.... Easy A if you work regularly on HW and Quizzes
I had a good experience with Professor Sethi. He did well explaining difficult concepts in plain english. He has a bit of an accent so pay attention, but you should be fine. 3 quiz, 3 homework, and 3 tests. Quizzes are designed to be identical to tests and he goes over quizzes in class. Gave extra credit opportunity. I recommend him.
He teaches very well. If you listen in the class properly and take notes, most likely he'll ask the same questions in the exam. The problem is he still takes exams with manual calculations, which does not make sense as in real-time, we use excel. he gives quizzes and tests with manual calculations, homework in excel. Do not expect to learn excel.
All the calculations done during the course are paper pencil. Really helps in cracking the concepts. Professor is always available to help his students. Makes adjustments in curving the grades so that more people get higher grades
Lectures can be hard to follow sometimes because he moves quickly . Quizzes can be worked on in groups. Homework is easy excel work. The tests are what make this class challenging. You do get a notecard cheat sheet which helps. 1st test is pretty straight forward study hard get all the points you can because test 2 and 3 are more difficult.
It was a good class. But, you have to work hard for an A. The difficulty of the exams keeps increasing, 1st is the easiest and 3rd is the hardest.
This guy will try to teach you statistics using pictures and not formulas. On top of that, you can barely read his chicken scratch. Whenever you ask him a question about formulas and solving a specific problem with a formula, he avoids the question. Strongly advised to avoid at all costs unless you're willing to teach stats to yourself.
There are 2 HW assignments (Excel based) and 2-3 LONG quizzes due before each exam. If you do well (or understand your errors) on these, you will really be fine in the class. I took Opre 3360, and it is nearly the same class, maybe a little more advanced in terms of type of questions. Expect to learn from the Power points on your own!!
Wouldn't recommend him to anyone. If you take his class, you might want to go to understand what he means in test questions. Read his syllabus & you will know that he strings together nonsense sentences. He tells you how to solve his problems in class but then you may not get the desired answer on a test or quiz. He makes errors on the test answers
Active instructor. Helpful person. Fair grader. He teaches really nice, but you have to pay attention. The subject is tricky and he gives lot of effort while teaching. Jovial guy! Practice everything from the textbook and you will get an A.
Teaches on a higher level that can be confusing for someone who isn't familiar with the material. Expect to teach yourself a lot.
Avanti Sethi is very good at explaning concepts. He gives real life examples which are interesting and makes the topic clear. You have a doubt and he clears it then and there. To get a better grade in the subject read the textbook and understand the concepts clearly. The assignments are very helpful for the BI classes and analytics. Quiz is imp.
Well, one of the best professors I've had a chance to learn under during my semester here. Very articulate and helpful, one will have no problem in understanding the subjects since he gives a lot of real life examples which makes it relatively easy to understand the concepts. Would love to take his class again!
The key to making an A in his class is to truly understand the material so that you can work the problems quickly. His tests are SO LONG so you don't have time to sit and ponder on each problem. Make sure you do well on test 1 because 2 and 3 are much more difficult. Overall, I actually think he taught the material well and cares about his students
Do quizzes and HW properly. Learn every single method in quiz problems. That will help you to get more marks in Final tests.
He is a fan of showing example problems and answers in lecture, but doesn't elaborate on HOW you get to the answer. I have taken stats classes before and received A's but felt very lost in his class. 80% of your grade depends on 3 exams so if you aren't a good exam taker, avoid him.
Basically the course is simply Statistics, but it gets complicated under him. Uses MS EXCEL to solve and demonstrate the concepts in class, but in exam and assignment you use CALCULATOR !
If you can take this class with any other professor you should! He does not teach the needed information in class and his slides do not list all the formulas needed, which is ridiculous. He gets very very defensive when students ask questions or complain about anything. He does not give bonus and does not prepare students for the exams.
Great professor. You could probably get away without the textbook if you have good attendance.
Overall good professor but the coursework is very heavy. 3 tests, 11 or 12 quizzes and 11 or 12 homeworks. Deadlines are short. Doesn't explain stuff very clearly but exam reviews are extensive. If you have any questions, clarify them with TA or during office hours. Strictly not during the class as he won't explain. Rushes through. Self study wins.
Wow, what to say. Disaster of a class with an unhelpful professor. Do NOT take his class if there are any alternatives and if you have no choice, be ready to teach yourself the material and read the entire book.
very good
Crystal clear in explaining confusing concepts
Very good professor. Must take his class to learn OPRE.
You'll hate stats and yourself after choosing his class. Quizzes and Tests are intense and the methods for solving them are different from those taught in class which means you would need a senior to guide you through. Studying intensely from book and being self reliant in exam is only key to score. cant ace A
he teaches very well, but wouldnt call him student friendly. He give tough exams and had crazy thing for answers to be correct upto four decimal places. Which later on made sense, but as a student , we can loose marks on silly things. He doesnt reply to mails very often so have to take appointment to meet and ask question which he can answr in mail
This is for 6303, not 6301. 6303 was a good math foundations class that will increase your confidence in business math. Prof only had 4 exams that mirror practice problems. There is no homework and the 10-15 practice problems given per test is enough to prepare. Class should be an easy A if you put in the effort and understand what you're doing.
The professor is extremely clear with his concepts. He makes every class so interesting with real life examples and is hilarious in class. His quizzes + classroom exercises + homework is enough to get a good grade - PROVIDED you put in the hours. Visit him during his office hours - clears doubts excellently and gives you a great confidence boost.
If you want to actually LEARN the subject - he's the best one to take. Just make sure to pay attention in class and go to him for help if you get stuck - you'll do great. He curves as well.
A good course. learned a lot. Exams are conceptual. You need to be clear with your concepts and you'll do good.
Best professor in UTD.
OPRE 6301: Easy 5 simple quizzes - can be saved & resumed , no time limit for ques. If marks lost in one attempt, we can retake and get full marks 4 easy homeworks - clear instructions in each ques. almost 2weeks time. sure full marks 3 Tests - If concepts strong, its easy to crack. slides & quiz enough for exam . one or two theory ques from book
His slides are enough. It was an easy 'A' for me.
Good Professor. Gives real word example which makes concepts easier to understand.
Please avoid...U won't learn anything...
He is a good professor who takes a lot of effort to make his students learn tough concepts in statistics. He even brings in real world examples (finance/medical) which gives you a good exposure. His classes are important, If you are attending his class regularly, then a text book is rarely required. 3 tests, easy if you do the quizes & HW well.
Good Professor
He is an awesome person person when it comes to meet him outside the class. But there is something in the class about him which makes it a bit boring. His speeches are not clear at times. He does not curve. The best part about him is that he makes everything crystal clear. you would even know how he grades you and how much you need to score next.
He is a great professor-makes everything clear enough to understand, follows up to make sure you got it right. I had heard his exams being tough, but I found them perfect- each time he informs the nature of the questions in advance and where the students usually go wrong. Quizzes and Homeworks help you learn well. I would take him again.
would struggle with your grade and end up with no experience of excel, take an alternative professor if you have a choice
Professor Sethi possesses absolutely immense knowledge of the topics he teaches. He explains them well and attending his classes is a great experience. The quality of quizzes and exams are amazing, and definitely help in amplifying the understanding of the topics. I would highly recommend to learn at least one subject under him.
Accessible. Infinite retries on quizzes so that you can actually learn it. The guy actually knows how to make Blackboard into a valuable tool. Good choice for this class.
People with great knowledge are found to lack expressiveness, you can learn much from your topper students than him, wish i could apply for refund, you may be lured to join his club by paying extra bucks for grade but dnt do that either... if u dnt have a choice wait for next sem and choose another professor.
DO NOT BELIEVE people posting Easy A's in here... basically they are the ones who have suffered and want you to experience the same, you'll have to self learn from textbook, youtube and other sources, complicates stuff and expects you to learn from the same
He moves fast in lectures so pay attention. But he's actually concerned about your learning. Recommended.
It all depends. If you want to learn the proper way so that you wil remember the basics for years to come, take this class. If you want to learn the old way with formulas and all that which you will forget anyway, then go somewhere else.
If you are taking the class for an A then good choice if it's to gain knowledge than for sure a big NO. I REGRET taking this class. He is not good in communicating statistical concepts and he will suggest not to read through any book. Do NOT listen to him. For few questions, I have received answers like it will not come in exam. Seriously!!!!
No learning. He will make simple concept look like a big deal. Confusing lectures. Will not suggest his class.
If have a choice do NOT take his class.
Avoid if possible. He will make confusing topics appear more confusing.
He is one of the best professors in UTD. Concepts explained in simple language.
Not only he is an expert in the field, he also gives like millions of real life examples. Some of these make you say "WOW". Take him if you want a truly entertaining class. He makes movies which is kind of cool.
He is the best professor I have studied under. His classes are very interesting. His papers may be a bit on the tougher side compared to other professors of OPRE 6301 but his teaching is not exam based. You will actually learn something after finishing OPRE 6301. Very good human being. Ignore the bad reviews over here(Seriously!). Go for him!
I enjoyed it and learned statistics for the first time.
Don't be deluded by the sweet comments and best professor opinions showered below, its group of first bench students sucking up for him, simple concepts are made complicated, and this subject forms backbone for rest of the subjects. I beg u'll do not take his class, you will regret it till eternity
It worked for me. No complaints.
If you have the ability to learn on your own then only take his class. He gives tricky questions. I did not find this class helpful and regret my decision of taking this class under him. His grading criteria is not fair and if you do not know statistics before hand then you will have a hard time during your exams because is lectures do not help you
Statistics is a hard class. You have to be prepared from the beginning. I did not put in enough time and made a 56 the first exam, by attending office hours with Professor Sethi and working more problems I was able to get a B in the course. It is not the teachers fault for instructing a difficult course. If you put in the time, you can do well!
I learnt statistics in true sense in this class. Scoring an A is easy if you don't miss any class, finish the assignments diligently and practice problems at home. In short, you need to invest time for this subject. Professor Sethi uses a lot of real life examples which we will encounter in professional life as a data analyst. Highly recommended.
Took a full semester of stats and was a bit confused by it, 45 minute lecture by him on stats and now I fully understand stats. His unique way of lecturing is to use the power point slides some but mostly uses MS Paint to show the class what to do. He is easy to follow along with and lectures are interesting. He cares about everyone doing well!
Amazing Professor, Would take him Again. He makes it easy.. He will give you shortcuts and best formulas to use - Book will confuse you . When ever I came out of class I new how to do my homework. Practice QUIZZES those are your exam questions. UNLIMITED quiz attempts . He is fun and not Boring. This class is supper helpful for business world .
First of all, I would definitely take this class again. The professor made the class interactive, always speaking about interesting topics about the real world and comparing them to the class. This is not a blow off class, that being said you will need to work for your grade. But as long as you go to class and study you should be fine.
Professor Sethi related what we learned in class to real life scenarios which I think so useful! He gave real-world examples & tried to have you focus on the overall concept and not just memorizing the formulas. Reasonable amount of hw, & gave unlimited amount of tries which was great for practice. Also, he's an expert in excel! Def recommend!
He's teaching style is that of teaching you how to read a map rather than giving directions (his words). Meaning that he doesn't rely on formulas or step by step procedures, but instead allows you to find your on way to the goal with him assisting you along the way. Some people don't like that but it worked well for me.
His class was awesome, if you study the quizzes and ppt you will be more than ok. The quizzes are online and you have unlimited attempts, use them as a study tool for the test. Also he allows for students to have a 5 x 8 flashcard for tests!! Take Him!!
This class was actually interesting, and I think it is best to thank the professor for that. You can tell he is very interested in what we teaches and all that he does. If he sees that the class is struggling, he will go out of his way to help out the class. Ask questions if you don't understand. If I had failed, I would have taken him again.
If you are focused only to get " A" then you will have a problem in this class, but if you focus to know and learn the materials then the chances are very high to do well on this class. This class help me tremendously on my job and the professor is always willing to help.
His lectures are really interesting and he shares a lot of useful information. For Stats, he makes you conceptually strong and his homeworks are based on excel, so you learn quite a bit. His tests are based on concepts and are not hard, they're just tricky. I'd definitely give him a thumbs up!
his class is boring, but better if you attend because even I cant 100% understand what he said in the class, it will help for doing the Quiz. the exam and quiz material definitely what he explains in the class. I would say, he just teaches for the quiz and exams, not much skill and knowledge will get after his class. but an easy A for me.
I took this as part of the MBA program. This is in regards to the OPRE 6303 Quantitative Foundations of Business class. Online class with 3 tests. Professor is open for further explanations during office hours and setup classroom review sessions right before exams. OK class as long as you put forth effort.
This course contains lots of concepts. There are four HWs and lots of online quizzes. Actually, the tests are really harder than what we did in HWs and quizzes. Not an easy A.
If you want to learn the concepts of statistics, this is your class to take. He will teach everything through concepts from the scratch and not straight away by the formulas. Teaches excel and manual both. Quizzes, Tests and Homeworks are not very tough, but have a good number of problems to help you practice. Adds a lot of examples in the class.
Decent professor who is willing to help. However, the TA is very rude and completely ignores emails while sending passive-aggressive, condescending messages to the class that show that she clearly hates her job. I'm doing well in the class, but I have never met a TA with such an unhelpful and negative attitude and lack of professionalism until now.
Missing his classes is not an option if you want to do well in this course. His goal is to not let students memorize formula but to understand the concepts really well which he does a pretty good job of teaching. His assignments, quizzes help in learning for the tests which are tough to crack.
It is supposed to be a math class, but because he lets you use Excel (and encourages too and shows tricks in Excel), it is not that bad. Great examples and well organized. So far so good.
You will get out what you put in. Work hard and you'll be rewarded. Tests are pretty straight forward. If you miss part of a question he's the type that will give partial credit back if you go to see him during office hours and work through them. He wants you to learn the material but is very fair if you are willing to do the work.
If you really want to learn statistics as to how it is applied in the real world, you should go for Prof. Sethi. However, his tests do require some good practice as well as are a bit tricky, but believe me, you'll definitely learn a a lot. Do not miss classes otherwise you are gonna miss the concepts and then the tests will be tougher.
Hes the best professor. He makes every student understand the concepts very clearly in his class. I never liked stats before or understood it this better if it wasnt for him. All thanks to him. And coming to the exams, if we understand concepts well, we will for sure perform good in the exams. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Very good lectures that helps you understand the concepts clearly. Is very clear about what is going to come in the tests. Has a revision class before every class. Multiple attempts allowed for quizzes and the HWs that involves excel are pretty staright forward too.
Good professor. He makes it easy for you to understand basic statistics. Do all of his homework properly and you will definitely get an A.
Good teaching skills ... emphasis more on practical learning
He is an amazing Professor. He knows what he is teaching and is very clear about that. He gives enough practice problems to boost up the confidence. I have taken Prescriptive under him and I am absolutely enjoying it.
He makes every person in the class understand concepts very well. He makes classes very interesting. I have taken both Prescriptive and Stats under him. His home works and exams are little bit challenging but not difficult. If you don't miss any of his classes, you would definitely get an A.
Lectures are good. Unnecessary difficult exams. Expect lots of quizzes and homeworks. Grading criteria is clear.
Home Work questions are very useful . Quiz questions are standard and gives enough time to complete all assignments. Very easy paper for students with engineering or math background. Strongly recommend him if you really want to gain a strong knowledge. Not an easy A.
I took an online class. It was easy if you study. My advice is do the practice problems. The tests are based around the practice problems, and the lectures are almost secondary. If you can do the practice problems, you'll do fine on the tests. My only complaint is he says he'll teach certain things, like tricks with Excel, but he never does.
Great class to get back into math. Professor Sethi has his own notes so he doesn't require any textbook which is great. First half of the class is easy, second half is more challenging. With math, you just need to practice. Do the practice questions and you'll see you'll do more than fine on the tests. He's very open to email too.
Does not reply promptly, does not explain the fundamentals-very vague
OPRE 6332 - Excel class - This is an advanced level class the way he teaches it. You'll learn more than you possibly can think. Very uaseful material. Many classes on VBA But be prepared to learn the basics on your own. And do a lot of practice on your own. If you can manage this, you will be glad you took him. Otherwise you will complain.
Won't recommend this class to my worst enemy. Not a graduate level class. Keeps interrupting class with personal phone calls. Does not respond to emails. Caters to only a percentage of the class. Doesn't read the room. Take-home quizzes with trick questions consume too much time. More than half of overall grade comes from in-class tests.
Definitely recommend his class. If you want to excel in statistics, his is the class you need. He makes you work for your grades but it is so totally worth it. He speaks about so many different things in class! It's totally worth it. Very patient with questions and takes in class practice before exams.
I took 3 courses (OPRE 6301, OPRE 6398, and OPRE 6332) of Prof. Sethi. TBH, he is one of the outstanding professors I've ever met. I disagree his class is a breeze. You can learn a lot from his classes if working hard. Understanding and apprehension are both you need to have rather than a good memory. Practice is the key to get good grades.
Sethi does an excellent job of teaching the concepts and using real-world examples unlike other stat classes I've taken. He really cares for students to understand what they are doing and how concepts are applied versus just plugging formulas. The formulas are there in the ppts and you get to take a cheat sheet for exams, so no stress there.
If you pay attention to his lectures and do the weekly hm then you secured a B, however, to get an A you need to work extra. Great information to even use outside the class and many real-life examples throughout his lectures. Always accessible and awesome feedback after every test. If you do the bare minimum for the first 2 parts then you failed.
Excellent & committed teacher, who cared for students. Prof. Sethi is a great professor if you truly want to understand statistical & data analysis concepts.
There are only tests, but if you perform poorly on one it can mess up your whole grade. Be careful about only studying from the practice tests he gives. He tends to pull material from the lectures too. He wants to make sure you have a thorough understanding of concepts, so some of his questions involve working backwards.
I'm glad I took Advanced Statistics in undergrad, otherwise there would have been no way to keep up with the pace of this class. Expect a lot of quizzes, tests, and inflexibility. Because of my schedule, I had the class and the exam on the same day (sometimes 5 hours of Statistics in a day) with a full time corporate job. Utilize your classmates.
You really have to understand the topic otherwise you won't follow the lecture. Classes are mainly taught using the overhead and inked over powerpoints which are only available during the lecture. Even if you attend class, reading his ink is as confusing since his handwriting is terrible. Lecture ppts are different from what is posted online.
Great professor, puts a premium on doing!
He seems nice but not a good professor. Vague explanation, doesn't give any breaks during class hours and tries to finish up the class as soon as possible without reading the class. Vague explanation along with some usual bragging , not a boring class but he simply isn't good . The other part is that he takes out slides after a week, PASS!
Professor Sethi is amazing, great lectures. He explains the concepts very clear. However, it's not a easy class, the midterms are heavier than other professors, especially the first one. But that make you work really hard and prepare well for the other classes.
Good thing: he heavily curves. And he knows that he's not the best Professor, and is willing to change. And unlimited attempts on quizzes and homework. Bad thing: Goes fast, talks about random things, not accessible, extremely difficult midterms,
He used to take first four class very well, then for the rest he will complete within 1 hour, when you ask some doubts to him in person, he usually ask I told this in class and why you didn't understand, he's not approachable,he always talk about his club activity and his TA. One should know basic stats if you want to take under him, he does curve.
If you already here to check this guy , Drop the course ! His exam was extremely hardWhen you hesitantly write down each number, You seem to hear "nice try". He usually sends three or four emails a day to students. The email is nothing useful, just complaint. He thought he was funny, indeed, in a different way. Trust me, or go crazy
He likes to complicate the simple thing and usually makes a mess of it.I get the most emails in history for this course, and it usually useless. The exam questions are confusing, but usually you get higher marks than you expectedBecause you usually doubt that you're going to get 20 points. Turn him down and choose another professor.
I never met a professor as responsible as him. Always email us the latest information and help us go through this special semester. Hes also word hard and overtime work. Despite the exam is a little bit hard but you can really learn something. If you dont study hard or attempt to fool around, you possibly fail this class.
Professor Sethi was a good professor that was passionate about the subject. Since he knows the subject matter so well, he can go fast at times, but will stop at anytime and go back if I didn't quite get it. Anytime I emailed with a question, most often I would get a response back in minutes.
The Spring 2020 was a difficult semester as Covid pandemic hit in March but Professor was very caring. He made it easier for the class by uploading great videos, solutions, email clarifications and overall easier to understand content for BUAN6398. He also graded fairly. This class has lots of HWs but those help in tests. Overall great professor.
For those who want to learn industry-relevant skills in optimization and operations, this class is a good choice. You have 3 tests making it possible to redeem yourself from a grading point of view should you mess up any exam. I learned quite a lot in this class and Prof is approachable.
Professor Sethi's class is no joke. You can't fake it, you have to put in a lot of time on his lectures and his practice tests. He is very nice, he cares about his students, and gives good class/life advice. But know that his philosophy is to make you work very hard on his practice tests so that you can succeed in future endeavors.
If you want to break into data science - understanding statistics is the core. Professor makes statistics so easy, connecting the dots is very important in statistical learning and his lectures will grow your intuition and you will never forget the concepts. Get ready to work because it is worth it. He is very hardworking and expects the same.
Dr. Sethi is a TERRIBLE professor. Do NOT let the "acceptable" reviews on this page fool you. He consistently complains about being busy, makes concepts much more difficult, and is very unclear with his video lessons. The worst instructor that I have ever had. He does not care to help, talks down to students, & teaches very poorly. Do NOT take!
Get ready to take tests on something not even reviewed in the sessions.
This was the HARDEST class i ever took. I studied for many hours outside of my full time job to prepare for a test and found out i failed due to the test questions being nothing that was gone over in lectures or the quizes and prep test. He says all you have to do is quizes over and over and that is what the test will be like. AVOID.
Personally the hardest class ever taken with no input given from the professor for any mistakes for the test. So far, the only information given is 25% of his class has gotten less than the 65% . terribly hard test with terribly hard grader. avoid at all costs.
I do not recommend this class, the professor's lectures are not clear or helpful. HW is time consuming and tests are HARD. A LOT of people failed the first test for all I know b/c 30% of the test was not related to what the professor told us to study. I think that a B its doable but you have to work hard for it. Nice guy, cares about his students.
Sethi is by far one of the best professors at UTD. You have to put in a lot of time and effort to prepare for this class because he wants you to see the real life application with the concepts. He goes out of his way to make sure student feel prepared for the exams with Youtube videos, review sessions, etc. I would highly recommend him for stats!
Excellent professor. I have never been great at any type of math, but he goes out of his way to try to help you understand. This course is extremely challenging and he makes you work for it, but ultimately it is rewarding and you can't unlearn what he has taught. There is a massive amount of homework and practice quizzes; utilize your classmates.
This professor cares about teaching and wants you to learn. Try your hardest and if math is a tough subject for you like it is for me, don't give up! If your scores aren't good, keep trying. Luckily this professor has quiz's and excel hw that you can collaborate with and do over again to help with the learning process. Use those wisely.
Dr. Sethi's lectures are some of the best out there, plus he has a YouTube channel that will go more in depth, especially about Excel. He gives several weeks for homework and quizzes to be completed, plus allows a cheat sheet for exams. You can tell he cares about his students learning the material. I would definitely take a course from him again!
Terrible professor. Does not teach and is tricky on the exam. The TA can't answer questions. Professor is rude and belittling.
He was a good prof. His course has 3 tests, 3 quizes and 4 homeworks. Homeworks are excel based. Quizzes gives you an idea what is coming for the test. If you pay attention to his class and do the homework and quizzes very well. I never understood stats and probability until this class. Overall, an excellent professor.
Grading not clear.
His methods are different than other professors for the same topics. It's confusing. Rude and belittles students. Not sure himself of what is he teaching. Teaches through Excel and R in the class, but wants us to solve tests without using Excel or R. This reduces our scores. Ridiculous.
The class was online, and all of his lectures were prerecorded. Once a week he'd have online office hours where the class could come and ask him questions about the quizzes/homework. The grade was entirely based on three tests. Videos were decent, but you'll need to be good at teaching yourself to do well.
Go to lecture and absorb whatever you can if anything, work on the quizzes to really learn the subject, take the test. The key to passing his class is working on the quizzes, the tests follow the quizzes very closely. Don't bother buying the textbook.
The worst professor I have ever taken. Very rude and belittling. Almost the entire class failed the first exam. He moves due dates ALL. THE. TIME. and the exams are only open for 2hrs a day. If you are unable to take the exam during that small window, then you fail. He does not tell you what you did wrong on your hw, so there is no way to learn.
Amazing course and prof's videos on YouTube really helped me to quickly revise before the exams and the homework. Very empathetic towards students learning. Puts in lots of effort and strives for helping the students with the coursework. I liked the way he tests the concepts and homework for us to explore programming languages and tools.
Professor push us beyond our limits and it is for our good. I learnt a lot of new concepts which I am able to apply it in my real life situation at work. He drills the concepts deep into you for life. I would take his class again. You need to practice a lot and work hard to get the score. This is called learning for life. To the Best!
Awesome Professor! The professor took extra efforts to explain the concepts in an easy way, which developed my interest in statistics. Professor went out of the way and gave makeup test so that students get a chance of increasing their grades, doesn't happen with other faculty. The professor is very friendly and easily accessible outside the class
He had three exams. First exam was so hard that he had to remove it from grades as everyone scored bad. He thinks he knows it all, asking him questions is so difficult. Also, he doesn't give marks easily. Take any other professor except him.
Did I learn new things from this lecture? Yes, I never understand probability and stats until this course. Did I struggle with tests and homework? Yes,I spent lots of time woking on projects and trying to understand the concepts myself. He does care about his students and sometimes I felt students took advantage of him. Mixed feelings.
His tests are some of the most difficult I've taken - willing to curve. He's kind and caring; truly loves teaching. Multiple infinite attempt quizzes that act as "practice" for the tests. He answers questions indirectly; prefers to "guide in the right direction" - which can be difficult for those without prior experience. Still, you'll learn a ton.
I would never recommend this professor to my worst enemy. I'd attend office hours to only be told "this is easy you should know this" rather than receive help. I don't think I learned anything from him or his youtube videos.
He is the best prof for adv stats in utd. Period. The way he teaches the concepts using visuals makes your understanding rock solid. I've had students studying under diff proffessors come to me and I taught them all the concepts because their teachers don't teach them the right way. If you just revise his class regularly you'll surely get A+.
More than just the math, the class taught me to think deeply about problems. The professor teaches you the logic behind the solution instead of just fitting in the formula. Professor is very passionate and takes extra effort to record short concept videos on youtube. Be prepared for weekly quizzes, which can be answered if you listen the lecture.
Worst Professor. Don't listen to your problems. No help during office hours. No email response.
Overall course was good and informative. Challenges - the professor does not record classes which can help those ones who never had their hands-on experience using spreadsheets, syllabus says prefer emails but does not respond at all. And, I think this platform is to share our opinions and not to contradict anyone else's :)
If you want to gain some knowledge in statistics, this is the class and professor to take. The syllabus is exhaustively covered and is very accountable for teaching students. All the negative reviews on here are from students who expect an A for just signing up for the course rather than doing even the bare minimum to obtain a decent grade.
His syllabus is not structured correctly. You will see basic stuff. VBA taught is basic. If a student asks to revise a topic, he will decline to do so unless you are she. His exam questions are not straightforward; it's hard to interpret what he wants. HW is medium, 3 attempts to each Quiz. Won't solve your Doubt & instruct you to follow class ppt
The learnings you will take away, will stay with you forever. The Excel taught in live class gives you enough practice to prepare you for the quizzes and homework's which in-turn prepare you for the Main Test. VBA, Vlookup and the overall class structure and the concepts are really well defined and executed, will definitely recommend this course.
Professor Sethi is great. His course design is great and I can keep practicing what I've learned and prepare well for the exams. He's very caring about letting us have several tries of the quizzes. And he's also very responsive and answers every question clearly during the class. The knowledge he teaches on class is very helpful for my daily work.
Syllabus has great contemporary relevance and he graded without bias. He taught everything from basic to advanced and repeated concepts twice or thrice with multiple examples in the same class so that, everybody could follow. You will know his value if you try to learn what he teaches on your own. Reminder to haters: Doing masters, not high school!
The professor did a good job equipping us with relevant skills. You will need to put in hard work outside the class as well. There are things you will have to learn yourself. But if you are ready to put in the effort then the class a actually fun. The professor is quite motivated to teach but he does not like redundant questions.
I have gained new skillset & learned so much from Prof. Avanti. He is the most kind, considerate, & transparent professor. Unlike other professors, he focuses on student's learning rather than grades. In fact, he has no issues in giving good grades as long as he believes that you have learnt something. Professors like him are what a student needs.
Professor Sethi has a good structure for learning in class, so you come away with useful knowledge, but that does not reflect your grade. For a programming course his questions are extremely vague, and if you answer wrong it's the wrong answer for the next 10 questions.
I'm giving a good (fair) review even getting an ok grade, so please take this seriously. Some of the concepts of this class aren't easy. He gives a fair level, but also offer extra credit and a curve of the final grade. His lectures are great, he makes the easy and understandable. You've plenty of time on the tests. I had him for 2 courses.
I liked this class because the recordings were very short and clear. Everything that is on the test come directly from the lectures and quizzes, which you can try unlimited times and he takes the highest score. Simply watch the lectures, understand them, repeat the quizzes many times, time yourself, and you will learn and pass the course well.
One of the few professors at UTD that truly cares about his students. He really wants you to do well and learn. Summer classes are always heavier than normal semester so yes there will be homework but he gave us plenty of time to finish them. If you pay attention and study you will be fine. Overall my favorite professor at UTD.
The professor explained the formulas very well and ensured that we didn't just learn them but understood the reason behind every formula. It made the concepts really clear in my head. I am also giving my CFA level 1, and his concepts even help me for that exam. It is enjoyable to attend his classes.
The lectures were not adequate to learn the necessary materials at all. We formed a study group and we literally had to teach the material ourselves through online research and youtube videos. I can't believe I paid so much money to literally teach myself the information. We were in no way prepared for the exams. Be ready to google everything.
I feel that Professor Sethi is awesome at delivering concise lectures that are a) proficient at explaining the concepts and b) not so incredibly long that they overload your brain. Yes, the class is test heavy, but this is REAL college. Those giving him bad reviews must not have embraced his willingness to help students outside of class.
Sethi has high quality recorded lectures, unlike other professors. He gives 3 non-cumulative tests that make up 75% of the grade. The other 25% are assignments help prepare for the test. Although there are some excel assignments that can be time consuming. If you need to take OPRE 6301, Sethi is probably the best choice, IMO.
Dr. Sethi's class was very straight forward. He doesn't hand you an A, you still have to work for it, but he gives you the tools to get the grade. He makes himself available to answer questions and his explanations are clear and concise. His goal is to make you understand the concepts, which, if you want to learn, he does a really good job at.
Couldn't dream of a worse professor in my wildest nightmares! Lectures are awful! You won't learn a thing and will have to teach yourself. Very difficult to understand his thick accent. Talks insanely fast. Won't teach you a thing in Excel, but will assign impossible Excel HWs. Pulls test questions out of the woodwork. Won't reply to emails. AVOID!
Professor Sethi was proficient in the material he was teaching. His focus is on making sure th students learn, and grasp core concepts. You need to put in some efforts but not overly exhaustive. He solves all your doubts during one on ones which you should attend. I recommend his class wholeheartedly. He also gives really good pre-exam preparation.
If math is a subject that doesn't come easily to you, do not go for this professor, if you do not attend every single class without fail, you will not understand the subsequent classes. There are 3 exams, and an additional makeup exam but they are hard and the class average is usually between 70-80 despite the best efforts.
Professor Sethi has really good knowledge in Statistics and I highly recommend students to take his class as the concepts and teaching is very clear.
Avanti Sethi is the best professor in the college. I rate him the best for three reasons: 1. Grading Criteria: Top 40% gets an A grade. 2. Focus on how to apply concepts in real life situations by giving business examples. Unconventional way of teaching is his style rather than asking you to memorize stupid formulas.
He truly cares and is willing to answer any questions you might have. His exams are like the quiz format so there is nothing "surprising" he has great review sessions before exams. I would take him again anytime. Do the quizzes and ask questions when your stuck and your on your way to pass the class! He's great!
Great professor! Really cares about his students. Incredible review sessions that are perfect for his exams. He has a clear grading criteria which usually matches the quiz format. Study those and you'll be off to a great start!
He truly cares and is willing to answer any questions you might have. His exams are like the quiz format so there is nothing "surprising" he has great review sessions before exams. I would take him again anytime. Do the quizzes and ask questions when your stuck and your on your way to pass the class!
Took him in Spring 2023. First class after 7 years. Difficult material that he makes simple. lots of HW/Quizzes. Tests are based off the quizzes and problems he does in class. You need to attend the lecture to pass the class as he simplifies things. He is funny and engaging during class. He worked with us after bad first exams scores came back.
Good professor. Must take for stats
Please take his class if you want to learn. Opre 4350 isn't like other classes, you will actually get to learn how to use excel and you'll feel way more prepared if you were to ever use it in your workplace. Great professor and very approachable.
The professor does a good job teaching and lets you use a one-page double-sided cheat sheet. He is very receptive to questions, be sure to review quizzes and exam reviews and add it all on the cheat sheet.Start early on the homework, it uses R which isn't covered much in the lectures but some of it is on videos.
Not very useful knowledge taught.
I had him for my first semester. He was awful. He mumbles a lot and in class he does not try to actually explain anything at all.
Prof. Sethi is great - very knowledgeable and cares about students. Homework in R can be tough, but the cheat sheet and review sessions really help. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for practice problems.
One of the worst professors I had the bad luck to get acquainted with. Mumbles in class. It never feels like he is trying to teach, more like he wants to tell himself what he already knows. Would stay away from him if I were you.
For the amount of money you pay for your education at UTD, this is not the professor to go with. He has pathetic slides to share. Being a numerical based subject, there are really low amount of numerical actually solved in class. The numerical shared in slides also have missing given-data. DO NOT take his class whatsoever for this core subject.
Challenging, but you can learn so much. And if you pay enough time, the exam would not be hard. Professor is very kind, and I appreciate his great attitude on students and teaching.
Statistics is the building block my of degree at UTD and professor Sethi's knowledge and teaching style was extremely clear cut and comprehensive. I really appreciate the test frequency and the randomized quizzes that we can retake to clear our concepts! 10/10 would recommend.
The class is tough but there is a lot to learn. Having already applied some concepts in my work life, it was refreshing to see such a fresh approach to statistics. There were a lot of exams and assignments, but they were easy to perform in, as long as the quizzes were repeated enough times.
Valuable homework problems, well-structured quizzes, and well-set exams. Ideal for students with a mathematics or engineering background who want to learn concepts to the core. Challenging but rewarding- not an easy A. Highly recommended for serious learners.
It was quite fun taking professors class last semester. The quizzes helped so much with refreshers about the material. 10/10 would recommend again
I took OPRE 4350. The course is kinda messy. He is not consistent in posting complete files, so should shows up for class. We have weekly quizzes and pop-up quizzes. Sometimes, he gets passive towards the student for asking questions, so deal with it.
There's 3 modules, consisting of 2-3 quizzes each and one test each (not cumulative). He posts video lectures of approximately 10-15 minutes for each subject, not great details. Practice problems harder than video examples, quizzes harder than PP, tests harder than quizzes. But he's very good about giving partial credit and curving your grade.
He is really great in teaching as he teaches concepts which are very easy to understand. Also I was not at all able to solve probability questions ever. But he taught it so well. I could understand the concepts very clearly.
His excel class is great but the tests are NOTHING like the reviews and practice. Overall there's a lot of good info you can use to learn but the best way to take this class is to download all the material as possible so that you can learn it and then drop the class so that it doesn't kill your GPA.
If you have questions he will make you feel very dumb and say you will fail the exam even though he doesn't answer your questions, just says that you should already know. Do not purchase the textbook since it will not be used. The TA was much more helpful. Do not take this class unless you want to be talked down to.
Dr. Avanti Sethi teaches with real understanding and very basic examples. For example, the way he taught Bayes' Theorem was incredibly intuitive and easy to grasp. I didn't even need to look at the slides — lectures are enough. No need to memorize formulas. If you're willing to learn, you'll succeed. Don't blame him for your own laziness.
Make sure you go to class because it explains more than just the slides. The practice tests help a lot. Just make sure to study and do the quizzes and pay attention
One of the toughest professor you could take for this course. Bit of a pushover if you don't understand the material too well, instead of actually helping you understand it clearly. Mostly would have to study a decent amount of the material yourself. Exams in testing center, allows 1 cheatsheet. decent if you already have good grasp of the subject.
Prof Sethi is a joy. I had him for BOTH OPRE 6359 (advanced) and 6301 (intro). One thing: if you are not confident in your stats knowledge, meaning that you know off the top of your head right now what sigma and x-bar mean then you should take 6301 FIRST. He moves through lectures briskly and it's hard to get explanations from him sometimes.
Professor is very considerate and accessible. This course is extremely easy if you took calculus in high school (Calculus AB/BC), very intro calculus materials. Tests at the testing center or approved test location even though this is an online class.
If you stay on top of the weekly quizzes and have the proper cheat sheet for exams, you'll be fine. Tests are exactly like the work you do. Helps that you can actually apply this stuff elsewhere. Ask him about his filming hobby, he's more engaging than most professors.
Dr. Sethi is pretty cool. This class by design requires you to come to class regularly and practice on your own. The stuff he is teaching in this class is very practical and useful as you progress into your career. As he is teaching he will be very encouraging and gives good practical advise. If you need to take this class, take it with him.
One of the worst course. He gave lot of homeworks, assignments during exams thought we only taking his subject. The exams were outside of the class.Too heavy, speed lectures, pronounciation difficult to catch. Even though studied hard its Impossible to get good scores .comparitively with other professors(20+)he gave 40+ questions for each exam.Escape.
While Professor Sethi is good at walking the class through Excel features and functions, some of the content is useless and I wish he'd spend less time on it. I really wish he spent more time on VBA code since that has more real world application than some text formatting functions. Also, don't bother with his office hours. He won't help at all.
Professor Sethi is an excellent teacher! He explains concepts like Bayes' Theorem and hypothesis testing in a clear, visual way that makes statistics easier to grasp. His passion, organization, and exam reviews are very motivating. I went from struggling with stats to truly enjoying it—highly recommend his class!
I really enjoyed this class. He uses real world examples and explains stats in a way that actually makes sense. You can tell he truly cares about teaching. If you review a little after each lecture, you start to see how beautiful statistics can be. One of my most rewarding classes.
He is overall a good teacher and tries to teach stats by helping us visualize the problems. I will agree sometimes it's hard to comprehend what he is trying to say but overall he puts alot of effort in his lectures and would also teach how to use excel to solve stats problems. It is easy to score good in his exams if you put some effort and study.
Prof.Sethi designs his course to benefit both seasoned professionals and fresh graduates. While he expects basic knowledge from masters students he provides ample practice material, exams aligned with classwork and is approachable beyond office hours. Passionate about teaching, he prioritizes true learning over mere marks. 100% take his class again
