Avery Smith is a great person. All tests, quizzes, and essay were open note. No textbook but assigns readings that needed to be printed so you don't have to buy a textbook. Clearly explains all readings. Participation is key!!! She expects a good discussion and that you know the material throughout the whole course. I would HIGHLY recommend.

Worst professor I've had at Loyola. Way too much work for a core class. She was on time to class one time the whole semester, every other day she was 10-20 minutes late. Grades terribly hard without any explanation as to why you get the grade you do. So many assigned readings that don't even get mentioned in class. Absolutely take someone else!

While it is apparent that she is very passionate about philosophy, there is a huge inconsistency in the work she assigns. As we get towards the end of the semester, she is assigning an unnecessary amount of work (3 part final + 2 essays week prior). She is a harsh grader and does not give feedback or instructions that are easy to comprehend.
