Good law prof, supports teaching with interesting examples
Very good prof
Great prof to have!
Great prof, thats all you need to know
makes a great effort. seems to care alot.
Good guy. Fair marker, no tricks up his sleeve
Nice guy, pretty easy class, fair marker
He is a nice guy, but his tests are screwed up. Wants the students to do well, but doesn't bell curve. So u get what u get. Tests are really hard. If u like LAW, and wanna do something in LAW good prof, cause he is hard. Try Robert if u dont care bout LAW
Good prof, gives good examples and really knows his stuff. Very keen on class participation. Not an easy course though, really have to think.
i think the people who rated this prof are originally one person. he's hard on tests and exam. he hates you if you don't buy original book and wants everyone to participate a lot.
Quite boring, very monotone. I cannot stay awake in his lectures. Makes class seem painstakingly long.
The course is interesting, but the prof is hard.
Lectures are very helpful. Open book/notes test... all you need are his notes if you've been to every class. He is tricky on tests. Needless to say, course material becomes challenging at a certain point. He is a great professor.

Avner...very fair, very helpful, great prof.Tips...Do every question at end of chapter.Submit them to Avner,he will help you. This way you will get a great mark.TALK IN CLASS!!!.Automatic ten marks!
lectures a lot. Participate in class to get free marks. Know your stuff well in detail for the tricky tests/exam.
I'm an Avner fan. If he knows who you are and you participate, he'll help you out a lot and see that you get a good mark. And pay attention in his labs--he breaks everything down in a way that will make his tricky tests easier for you.

Good prof, very organized. Knows how to present the material. I also liked the course. But I guess if you don't like law, this course will not be easy for you. Test will test your ability to apply the knowledge and not your memory :).
Very Nice prof...if you are willing to learn he is willing to teach....but beware tests are open book and very tricky...
TIPS 1. Bring Cranberry juice for him! 2. Buy him a new shirt, or he'll wear the same one over the course of the term. 3. Test are ridculously hard and M/C 4. Just don't bother, he's hard and has some fixation with the simpsons.
If doug clarke were around you wouldn't be, so why take chances teaching like a prick!
20MC=20%, 30MC=30% on top of that, his tests are really tricky and hard
great prof! listen to his lectures and ull understand the stuff..his tests were NOT that bad if you study..he helps u alot if u go in to talk to him during office hrs and he responds quick to his email! overall EXCELLENT PROF!!!
his M/C are tricky, but just show up to lectures and he gives u little hints. his 1hr labs are really good do the questions before comming to class.
yo levin, make up your mind! this prof is so unsure of his answers, he'll say yes one week and no the next. drop this course like you would the toilet seat for your live-in girlfriend, because his averages are the lowest in ryerson. he even messes up something as simple as LAW122!
This guy is the worst prof! Get out of his class if you can. He is so confusing; half the time he doesn't know what he just said. Tests are ridiculously hard and he tries to trick you at every turn. Change profs immediately!
lol some of the comments r funny coz he's not that hard at all.his mc's are tricky but once u get the hang of them....piece of cake, and he gives quizzes ever week which really helps.just read ur notes an hour b4 class and ur set for the quiz!
he has a LOT of quiz (6) and assign(6), his course need a lot of work. but he do his homework for the course and do not **** in the class.
MC are not tricky.
Great Guy! I really enjoyed his night cource. If I have Law again, I hope to have him as my teacher !
The tutorials were no help for his quizzes. I have taken law before but this man made it so frustrating. And what the hell was that exam on...cause it wasn't in my notes at all which were word for word from his lectures. Drop the course like a hot cake.
He is not "easy", but if you do the readings and FOCUS on class notes, this course is really do-able, and if you make notes yourself...you'll get an "A" for sure! Her's great, and I wish he taught every law course!
Take this course. You don't need the textbook. Just his notes will do. Study his notes and cases and you'll get an easy A.... Careful cause quizzes, participation and tutorials are easy... final is a killer
Quizzes are easy as they are T/F but the final is a tough open book test. You also need to participate regularly to get some of the 4 participation marks otherwise you'd be down 4.
Gil Lan and Avner are the best law profs at Ryerson. Avner is fair, interesting and accurate with his information. Very approachable and answers questions readily in class without jeaporidizing time. I highly recommend him. His teaching style is professional and at perfect university level. A true Ryerson Gem here
Hands down my favourite class to date at Ryerson. His course is NOT, I repeat NOT easy. Final is killer - my advice, go to class, take notes, read, do the work and you will do just fine.
great guy, great class. Hes a great guy to talk to one on one as well....Answers questions well. An overall great prof
The best professor I had in the three years I've been at Ryerson. It was refreshing to actually have a professor who knows what he's talking about and who is knowlegable about the subject matter he is teaching.
One of my favourite Law profs. His notes are crystal clear and all his quizs/test are based on them. Although he does get really mad if your are late or disrupt the class, and he WILL kick you out if you tick him off. So remember to have good notes from his lecture and you will good great.
He is just absolutely wonderful... I wish Ryerson would hire more GREAT profs like him... Guess those are few and far between... He is so organized and teaches so well, you won't regret taking his class... Oh yea, you guys might wanna know, his tests are a KILLER! lol, but he's really great...
He is one of the greatest professor/teacher out there. Knows the subject matter extremely well. He's very helpful, but law is a tough subject and his exams are tough too. Pay attention to what he says in class and take good notes, never disrupt the class because he will reprimand you. You will be alright if you focus on what he says in class an
he's not a good person at all....his final exam was brutal and it was worth 55%...it didnt matter how much u studied and and how much effort was put in
very effective at teaching the material. can become quite unpleasant when students come to class late or don't do their homework, by often kicking them out. this is university, not highschool. RELAX!!!
If you want to walk out of class feeling like you learned something, take law with him. He'll answer questions, no matter how strange they are. But do the questions on time, attend the classes, take notes, and don't disturb the lecture. Tests are difficult. Open book means "know your sh*t", not "don't panic". I'd take another class with him.
Not responsible, Biased
Wow, are the comments I'm reading really about the same prof? The class started off as with 60~70 people but it's the 10th week now and only 10~12 ppl still bother to come. Very monotone speaker. His TA has taught 2 classes & marks our papers. Just what is this guy doing?
Tough course but the Prof. knows his subject like an expert. You can ask him questions and he entertains them. His tests are very tough so study well and be disciplined and don't disrupt the class then you'll be fine.
TA mark all the assignment, final essay and he mark very hard. attendance i would say is mandatory because the prof give out many hints/ information on assignment
Mr Levin explains the material in a crystal clear way. But you still have to do your readings and keep up with the material if you want to do well. His assignments are fair but the final was more analytical rather than just terms. Overall great proff!
wow worst teacher ever!! You have to make an appointment just to look at your marked test.Questions on his test are very tricky and he has made them that way on purpose, as said in his own words! Don't even bother taking his class.
When I went to his class, I had 2 exams each worth 50%. Questions were tricky. He's more concerned with the applications of law rather than knowing the definitions. Do the online questions. That's what saved me after I failed midterm. Overall, teacher knows his stuff but can't handle students too well.
One of the best professors I?ve ever had. He knows his material forwards, backwards and any type of wards. Also, as mentioned before, his midterm (50%) and final (50%) are tough, BUT manageable. People are just lazy... take notes in class and read over the assigned chapters and you won?t do poorly. Also, DON'T COME LATE, and BRING YOUR BOOKS!
left on a vacation for the last two weeks of class. Does not care about his evening classes. midterm 50%, exam 50%. Interesting course but requires A LOT of work.
The tests are tricky because the questions are ambiguous. You'll find yourself picking the 'best answer' because the correct one is not A, B, C, D or E. Avner could post answers to textbook questions to make studying easier. He doesn't return messages.
Very good professor knows his material...but the final itself is hard you can read the textbook but you will still be confused even with his notes...because the final is just going to confuse you
Midterms were very ambiguous and unclear.
Avner is great! He is majorly clear with this teaching methods...basically for this course...you NEED to attend every class...take the notes he gives out...BRING YOUR TEXTBOOK to class and when studying...study his notes and you are good to go. review notes well before midterm and final...its open book!
This course is a guarantee 60%, just need to make questions and summaries (2% per week). However, to get a 4.0 is not easy. He is unclear on his expectations for mid-term. Final paper is worth 26% and it is 20 pages long.. LIKE REALLY? (initially worth 20%). Overall, nice guy but unclear on his expectations.
Lectures are very dull and boring. Do the questions at the end of each chapter and learn how to navigate the textbook. Mid terms are open book but it is important you know how to apply and find all the theories in the text.
His first midterm was very unclear, I could not understand what he was asking for, then came the second midterm... much easier, easy final too! Him and his TA were really helpful, answered every question that I had from the book via mail even if they did not have to unless u go to the office hours.
Final essay worth 50%, marking is extremely unclear & impossible to receive decent mark. Went into final essay with a A+ finished course with a D+.. I'm a 4.0 student (Never received lower then a A- on an essay). 16 people as of now are appealing their grade for his outrageous marking scheme. Unfortunately this is a required course.. so good luck.
The final essay is worth 50% and is marked very critically BUT that is because the other 50% of the class marks are easy to attain as long as all weekly work is completed. I only got a 60% on the final essay and still managed an A- because I did all the weekly papers and questions. This is NOT a class that is hard to do well in.
He is a bit boring when lecturing but he is very knowledgable. Tests were open book but still difficult. Essentially attend TA sessions and read and do the practice questions and you will do well
Avner is the boss-man of the Law&BM department at Ryerson, literally, he is the chair, so give him the respect he deserves. He is a very fair marker that will allow you to write freely as long as you are able to present him with a critical analysis of your subject. I don't believe he limits his students to elementary SUBJECT: ANSWER type content.
Lectures are extremely boring to the point people begin to leave class, marking on the midterm and exam are extremely tough and unfair.. would not recommend taking this
class was really common sense. 2 midterms, one little assignment and the final. very simple, final was a lot tougher though. usually open book but he puts in a couple tricky questions in the midterms, so if you watch out for those its very easy to get a straight 100 in this class with Levin
His lectures are all you need for the 2 OPEN-BOOK midterms and OPEN-BOOK final. He even gives you time to write down his lecture notes in class, as they are not exactly posted online. Literally go to class, write down the lecture, bring those notes to midterms and final, and you are all set. Highly recommend!!
LAW722 was quite easy for a capstone class. They switch the course outline of this class every semester though which is why it may have been easier for us. Easy marks from weekly assignments based on readings and guest speakers. No midterm just a 20% presentation and a 40% final. Overall very fair and interesting class.
Great prof. Go to the lecture, do the readings, go to your tutorials, and your set for a 85%+.
Avner is a great prof! He knows how to explain the content well & always provides examples to explain concepts better. As a first year psych student, this course was not too overwhelming. 3 steps for success: go to lectures; go to your tutorials; & do the assigned case study questions in the book. Would highly recommend if you're interested in law!
Dr. Levin is a very straightforward professor who explains the concepts taught very well. He is always open to answering questions and he also posts additional power points online. The midterm was closed book and the final was open book, both were fair but beware of questions meant to trick you. Be sure to attend every lecture and tutorial.
Professor Levin is very knowledgable and tries to make the course as interesting as possible. His lectures are good and informative. He's always open to answering questions and genuinely wants to make sure we understand the material. Really nice and helpful guy.
Avner Levin is a knowledgeable professor, however, the course consists of speaker sessions where you never hear your professor talking, only grading. He is a kind and nice professor however very tough marker. The course is very interesting and easy (but not if you take it with him). The feedback is not relevant to the work you have done.
Hes an ok guy. His tests for this course were tricky in some ways and kinda hard. I hate the fact that TAs mark the tests. No final exam, just a final paper.
Him as a prof was a beauty, he was knowledgable, engaging and easy to follow even considering an accent. Thought the TA's marking the tests was a HUGE bummer, and guest speakers were not useful at all.
During my JD program I've taken 2 classes with him, torts in 1L and privacy in 2L. As a 1L I found him intimidating, but when I met him in person he was very chill. But the real star of the show is his co-teacher/sidekick Bruce Blain! He's hilarious, kind, and very inspirational. They are a great duo :)
8 Essays (yes you read that right), mandatory attendance, weekly question submissions and an individual presentation. This course is challenging, and quite time-consuming considering there are two things you have to submit a week and one of those is an essay. TAs give unclear grading criteria and marking is brutal.
Fair and knowledge. Don't be afraid to approach!!
LAW 722 is graded entirely by your TA, so your experience will vary. There is a lot of work in this class, requiring frequent submissions. That being said, this course concept is extremely interesting. Guest speakers and weekly essays made the class challenging, yet still interesting. Levin could work on ensuring consistency between TA's.
I have taken 3 classes with Professor Levin and have nothing but good things to say. He expects his students to be on-time, present, and to have read the material. If you do those things, you can't go wrong. The exam content is always on his slides, and nothing in his assignments/exams are trying to trick you. He is very knowledgeable and caring.
