Don't know what he is talking about, his english pronounciation sucks
His Test is way to strange, U definitely hard to get high GPA.
very hard.......
He has the hardest exam I ever had
Oh my god! I should have dropped this class before I write the Final!!!!!!!!!!!
He is the best!!!
besides too hard tests ... he's ok ..
gives very hard tests, and talks fast
he's fu.cken hard as hell, make sure u dont smoke weed during the semesterU'R in
good teacher, i got a 3.3 GPA and his final exam is easy, don;t give up guys...

terrible marker; totally unfair

He teaches u easy stuff, but gives out hard questions on exams..which is unfair...he sucks
his teaching is so-so, and the test is unfair.
the best math teacher i've seen. Clear lectures and he gives sample exams for the final. Make sure you go to his class and do all the hw, then u can easily get A. Good luck!
he's pretty awesome. his tests are based completely on what is done in class, and he'll give hints beforehand as to what will be on the test. he's also super nice. if you want to do well in calculus, avtar's your man.
He is nice.
Excellent teacher. Communicates well. Fair marker. Final is fair and not hard. Basically if you do your part of the work you will get a good mark.
if u love math then take him. Otherwise u're gona have a hard time. midterms are harder then the final. fast lectures.
Horrible professor. Terrible teaching methods and is motivated by failing students. Avoid.
helpful?? i don't think so.. gets annoyed when students asks for help. Midterms and finals are way harder than homeworkds and lectures... knows what he's talking about but not very good at explaining it back to the class
teaches you as if the entire course is review. Skips all basics and assumes perfect previous knowledge on your part. take his class for the tests, but get taught by Gunson
great teacher, highly recommended
He is a good teacher, unless he speaks quickly. His test is not very hard. If you review the notes and do homework. You will have no problem to get a good mark.
People who are not good at math should not take his class. He goes over his notes very quickly & doesn't give anytime to pratice. I stopped going to his class bc i know i failed. his assignment & test are way too hard. Avoid him if u're not goood at math!
An awesome prof. He is the one who showed me the beauty of instinct in mathematics.
very hard, strict marking, advise to drop the course be4 the withdraw day
totally insane. His lectures are so fast. Tests aren't that bad but an extremely anal marker.
Kwantlen will never move forward if it keeps instructors like this guy... Brutally hard, loves to fail students. Gives easy practice finals but you'll be surprised in the final... Don't expect to get more than a C on the final.
He is a good teacher.
He is really helpful when you ask him... Almost all his questions are based on the notes and h/w he gives from the text... It's an easy B if you work a bit hard! Just study your notes, do your h/w that he assigns and you should get a B.

same loser posting all the time - if you spent more time studying than rating, then you wouldn't have failed!!!
The best math instructor I had during my time at KUC.
he`s very very hard....suggest u take another teacher.......mite be easier....he knows what he`s teaching...but i dun like his midterms and finals....
Awesome prof provides wicked notes for the class, goes over all course material thoroughly...and always available if you need help..totally recommend you take him for 1240...but one piece of advice to get a good mark in his class you gotta do the work..do all hmk..and re-do his in-class examples!
He speak too fast, but he gave notes that we don't need to worry about what had missed, the test is a little bit hard, but base on H/wk and notes questions.
He is a very good instructor! He never gives tests harder than your homework and what you study in class. Often puts problems from hw and inclass to the tests. He is also a very fair marker! Yeah, and his classes are fun!!!
A very fair teacher, very accomodating for students that do not understand subject going over it in simplier terms. As long as you do your homework, you should be fine.
I dont know how his rating is any good, he is so difficult to understand, when he shows you how to do something its one step, question to answer, gee thanks, take someone else if you want a decent mark.
not as easy as id hoped but i did ok
Didn't learn much from his class. I consider myself to be fast learner if being teached. Feel like i have to teach myself for this class. He's not very helpful when approach for question. Exams are super hard compare to homework and example.
typical math proff
Calculus is very hard for me, but I felt that he taught it as well as he possible could. He was clear, nice, funny, interesting, and I actually looked forward to going to his class. <p> He could not have taught it much better.
This guy can't teach. The test questions were no where near the homework problems. Was rude at times to students. Dont reccomend.
do all the hw, u will get a good mark~!
easy, if u do all the hw, u will be fine. overall , nice pro.
the problem with this teacher is he always cough and get mad when he need to split thing out from his mouth. You are not a good teacher"ARE YOU CRYSTAL CLEAR?"
The best math teacher i have ever had since highschool. His tests are always similar to homework problems. If you just do the homework, you will get a B in his class. He explains very well and goes through material quiclky which leaves you a lot of review time.
Nice guy with a british accent. He's a good teacher but his exams are a little tough. 2 midterms worth 21% and 2 midterms worth 10%, 1 or 2 assignments and a final. His notes help, and he gives lots of homework for practice. Goes through material quickly so there's 2 extra classes to study for final
He is a nice teacher, but his tests are considerably hard.
He tries to explain his notes to you but he's just not very clear. His tests are fairly hard and the class usually averages around 40 to 50 percent on his test, espcially the 2 hour ones. Overall rating is not good. I recommend you take his class IF AND ONLY IF its absolutely neccessary.
Exams are quite hard.
well, he always rushes in his lectures, when it comes to test and quizes, he NEVER puts questions close to what he teaches, after he'll say, well, "u guys should know it all from the basics", but dude, how do we get the basics if u always rush through the classes without giving time for us to digest the material?!totally not a recommended prof, amen
Huge dueche bag, needs to learn how to teach. He makes the class seem simple, then given you hard asignments, tests, and midterms. Don't take him unless you really need too. Plus he thinks hes funny and asks the clss pointless questions.
He's definately very knowledged, and you might find his presence to be intimidating, but don't be afraid to ask him for help if you don't understand something! Also do EVERY bit of homework he assigns, or else you definately won't do well on his tests because they are not easy. (P.S. also if you don't think you're going to pass, withdraw a.s.a.p)
Awesome professor!! Made Calculus easy as long as you go over the exercises you answered in class (he sometimes just changes the values for exams) and answer a few questions from his homework. very approachable and very fair marker.
A Great Instructor. He is an extremely approachable teacher; always willing to give help; never makes you feel stupid; funny guy. Tips: Avtar is a good teacher, but his tests are still hard (and can be long). make sure u do all the hardests problems in your class notes and stay up to date with your homework. Good luck :)
Great prof, study hard though. Looking over his examples in his class notes is very helpful as similar questions appear on his tests.
he goes over his notes in lighting speed. i am a straight A's student but i found him incredibily hard to understand. i dropped his class after attending the first hrs because i was already lost after the first 10 mins. if your maths are pretty good, then take him. if not, find another instructor
His class is fun. More break time. no quizze. The test questions are very similar to the notes he gives. Also good explaination.
Best math teacher i have ever seen! the test is easy!
He's a pretty good math teacher. Explain concepts clearly and helpful examples in class. Mangage time and class extremely great. You need to do some questions on textbook according to your math level. By the way, he has good thinking on math which many math teachers normally lack of.
Really good teacher. I was a bit intimidated by how fast he goes through his notes at first, but he'll happily stop to explain any question with a smile on his face, no matter how simple it is. If this guy doesn't love teaching he sure fakes it well, and he does a great job.
His explanations are not very clear. The midterms are not much harder than the homework. If you need help with the class he doesn't really like helping you and can be very discouraging. If you can take the class with another prof, I would recommend you do so!
This class is pretty self explainatory, he gives out notes packadges which are great, as they are similar to the questions on the test. Just do the notes he gives out and a bit of questions from the homework before the major exams. If u can't attend class make sure you get the notes as they are crucial.
Avtar is a great math prof. His tests are very easy based on the notes (sometimes there are exact same questions), 8% assignment mark which is very easy to get. does explain everything clearly but you need to know your basics and pre-calculus beforehand otherwise you get lost. class in fun and entertaining so I recommend and I recommend him to you!
he is a good prof. he marks REALLY hard. takes off marks for the format, but overall i would totally recomend him if YOU do your homework and keep up with the work and do the work as he wants you to DO it....plus he is very easy to approach and freindly... so far the most normal prof i have met...
Avtar is by FAR one of the best professors I've had (and this is coming from someone who did a university degree prior to taking his class). He is clear, approachable, and if you put in the effort, he WILL help you out. If you don't go to classes or do the homework, you won't do well...which is just the way it should be.
Very good math prof. Straight forward and quick. He isn't boring and he knows his stuff. I highly recommend him.
Very difficult professor who really knows their mathematics. Attend every class, pay attention, do the homework and you'll do fine. If you slack off like I did a fail is very likely
Not recommended AT ALL, tests are super hard
Really good!! haha, ok I never really had him since i enrolled for 1093 but found out it was too hard so they put me in 1099.... but I talked to him and got advice from him and he was super nice!!! very knowledgeable and helpful too! gut feelings tells me he's a good math prof too :D every math (real math profs) are great @ kwant!
Very difficult professor, specially the exams!!!!!!
He is an alright professor. He goes quite fast in the notes, and can sometimes skip steps in the question, making it difficult to comprehend. He is a hard marker!! With his class, I still have to go to the tutors for clarification. He is not great and not horrible.
One of the best Profs I've had. Avtar made calculus make sense. Very clear, concise explanations. Exams are fairly easy if you have studied, and I am expecting the final to be much the same.
He ain't the greatest. He ain't the worst. His tests are freaking hard!! He's kind of approachable... All I can say is.. Good luck to you.
I didn't seem him as a Prof. Avtar was more of a friend. He made calculus make sense. Take him if possible!!
a great prof who really knows how to teach. also, his tests are easy compare to other math profs. Recommended!
Avtar is probably a teacher that I can actually relate to. He is a very chill person and his tests aren't extremely hard. However, I had his final exam where I got butchered. If you study, you would get an easy A.
BEST TEACHER EVER. HIS CLASSES USALLY GET FULL CAUSE HE IS REALLY GOOD SO YOU BETTER REGISTER EARLY. EASY GRADE HIGER THAN B FOR ANYONE WHO NEVER DID CAL IN HIS LIFE SUPER GOOD AT EXPLANING AND TACHER ARE SUPER EASY TOO
I can't really say much about Avtar, since I dropped out of his Calculus class due to high work load. He gives pretty clear lectures, you must do the homework or your screwed. My only gripe with Avtar is that he sometimes rushes his lecture notes and makes the everyone do a copy and pasting of his solutions into their pre-printed lecture notes.
Really great professor. I would take him again. Very specific and thorough in his explanations but sometimes rushes the lecture and covers a lot of material. There is a lot of homework but if you complete it and follow the lectures, you'll be fine. Some of the easiest tests I've taken. Very straightforward guy. Also engaging, and non-intimidating.
Avtar is always there when you need help. I once came to his office not during his office hours during his lunch yet he still prioritized my questions over his eating. He'll always make sure that you understand the lecture and explains the concept clearly even though he seems rushed at times. Also, his british accent makes the class interesting
I'm not a math "wiz" but Avtar makes it pretty easy to understand. Compared to the few math profs I've taken at KPU, he's definitely one of my favoruites.
Avtar is really clear and thorough in class. His tests are challenging and require you to really understand what you're doing. Lot's of homework and a couple of formal assignments. He's kind of a tough marker so be careful in your work to show the correct steps. Otherwise good class and easy going guy.
One of the best math instructors i have ever had. Clear lectures, and tests are reasonable.
Great prof, but really hard marker!!! Tests are extremely hard! If you got a B or B+ in 1120, you could be end up getting D if you don't work 3x harder. Also, don't try to challenge yourself by taking this course if you're not in engineering.
Avtar had no time for me when I really needed help. I had to keep going to the LC. His confidence is insulting. A good teacher listens for where the students are struggling and takes care to go over content more clearly. Avtar may think he's a good teacher, but he isn't. Sure he knows the content, but don't take him if you want a good teacher
Avtar is a great prof! His lectures are great and you can ask him any question regardless of simplicity during his lecture. People say his tests are extremely hard but they really are not. They are not stupidly easy either. If you study and do the homework you will be fine. He is also nice and ready to help anytime and doesn't make you feel stupid
Calc 1 is the hardest class I've ever taken but was also one of my favorites. Took about 10 hours a week to work though the questions. If you're willing to put in the work its a good class, Avtar is really willing to help you especially if you go to office hours.
You definitely need to go to class because all his tests are based on lecture notes. Do the homework. He only gave three midterms, two assignments, and a final, so should be an esay course. Assignments were pretty simple and were similar to textbook questions.
He doesn't teach well. His exams are not parallel with his work text and he expects you to know the lecture before going to class. Also, his examples are vague, doesn't help you with homework
He's really an amazing professor compared to the other math teachers at KPU. His class lectures are clear and detailed, he goes through all the necessary steps for you to understand the problem. He also does most of his work on the white board and not much on the projector (which I prefer)
Is specific and direct about what material is to be tested on and knows his stuff. He gives interesting lectures and will be there for you during office hours if you need him. Overall great guy and prof. Definitely the best in the math dept.
Avtar is the man. He gives interesting lectures and is always there for you if you need him. Simply put, do your homework and you will get a good grade in the class. If you're struggling, go to his office hours and he will help you until you understand the concepts.
math is my weakness but avtar makes it clear and easy to follow, should definitely go to his class© all his written steps on board, cuz the test questions r the exact format from his notes, buy a secondhand bk to do the drilling, familiarise wif the way he writes the ans, tests r pretty straight forward if u reli study his notes, super light workload
After spending so many hours with other professors doing no favors for my learning, Avtar truly helped me find my love of math again. I wouldn't skip class unless you are very good at teaching yourself and have good educational sources; and even then, attending his lectures when I was able to really gave me a solid, clear understanding. Great guy.
avtar is the worst prof ever. although calculus is heavy and not easy, his tests are way too heavy and hard. i would avoid taking this class with him as you'll most likely drop out and regret it. majority of the class ended up withdrawing as most of us did not pass his tests/midterms and would bring down our gpa. i would suggest you save your money
I took this class online and honestly the professor isnt as bad as rated here. Gives decent homework, at last it all builds on your strengths in the course. If you do the extra notes, come to class youll be good! Work hard since its Calculus ll andyou should score an easy A-B+, especially if your smart and not dumb like me, but I still made it!
avtar is a good prof but im not a fan of his tests. they are very hard and not really parallel to the questions in the textbook so make sure you study hard for them! you cant fall behind in this course or else youll fail. there are 6 tests worth 13% each and a final worth 22%. quite a few people dropped out so be careful if youre weak in math.
Avtar is one of the best teachers that I've had at KPU. Sure he wants you to work hard, watch lecture videos before coming to the class, but it's all for the best of the students. He is very helpful and you can easily score above B+ if you keep practicing the homework questions related to the lectures.
Had the pleasure of taking his Math 1130 class this fall semester and he is a really good prof. He has a really good way of explaining the material in a way that it makes sense and doesn't assume you know how to do it already. The grade is based only on the test/exams as he doesn't have assignments. Is friendly and approachable would recommend.
We had three tests and a final. The class started with around 20 kids and by the third test I there was 7. The pre lectures are long and tedious to sit through. His tests are hard and don't correspond that well with the practice questions he recommends. But he is always willing to help you out. He's a good prof, I just wasn't ready for the class.
3 exams, 1 final. His in-person exams are pretty straight forward, just make sure to stay up to date with lesson videos and understand the homework. It's easy to fall behind in an an online class but you CANNOT do that in this course, this is one of the heaviest courses I've taken at KPU. Besides this being a tough class, he's a really nice guy.
Professor has great video lectures that are easy to follow. If you don't put the work in, you won't get a good grade. Marks were solely based on the midterms and final exam (3 midterms and an overall final), with no makeup tests or extra marks
amazing professor! super helpful and smart. if you engage with his lectures he's a really great teacher ensuring you understand everything. doesn't trick you on exam content either.
Took the class in Fall 2022. 3 midterms, 2 assignments and 1 final. We did something called the flipped classroom where he would post his recorded lectures online and we were supposed to watch them before the class. This gave everyone more time to work on problems together and ask the professor questions when we were in the class.
If you get a chance to take this guy do it, he is the definition of what it means to be a good professor. He has fair and straightforward tests, and he's super easygoing and just fun to talk to. If he is teaching this course on campus further away from you, the drive is worth it. 10/10.
AMAZING PROF!!! if you attend class regularly and practice problem sets you will easily get good marks. Best math prof!! in kpu.
Avtar is the GOAT. Just follow his instructions and you will get a good grade.
easy if you study, straightforward tests
Straightforward tests if you study. Lectures are engaging, but material can be challenging. unstuckstudy helped streamline my prep. Overall, a solid professor worth taking.
Avtar is the best math professor I've taken in my life, I took MATH 1140 with him and now MATH 1220, this class was the highlight of my semester. Although, I did have to put considerable effort into this class, but It was worth it especially when I came to learn about the applications of the stuff we were learning in class
I took this class last year. It's listed as in-person, but most lectures are online. You just show up, solve 5 problems with classmates, then leave. Feels like you're paying a lot for a class where the teacher doesn't really teach. He's not a bad instructor, but the course should be labeled as self-study. Michel and Alison are much better.
Lectures are pre-recorded that you watch before class. In class he gives you questions to work on whiteboards with classmates, and if you get stuck he is there to help. Its a math class, so be prepared to do homework. Explains problems well if you get stuck. Attending class helps a lot, and he does take attendance. - J
Professor Avtar is amazing. His teaching is concise and logical. If you follow his instructions, complete the pre-reading, and do the homework, you will gain a strong understanding of the material and achieve good results in math or calculus.
