I took Human Communication (a speech class) with her over the summer and I absolutely LOVE her- I couldn't believe she wasn't on here yet. She is extremely helpful and understanding (and funny) and all the assignments are very manageable. TAKE HER FOR YOUR SPEECH REQUIREMENT!!!!
i loved her class. she was very helpful with ideas if you were having trouble with a topic. but watch your spelling on any papers you turn in, she will take off points for lazy spellers
She has a great personality. I hated giving a speech, but this class has helped me get over that. I would recommend her to anyone.
Ms. Bridges was a wonderful teacher, very fun, and right to the point. Just who I needed as an instructor. I'm a non-trad. married student with busy kids. You will enjoy her class!
Very entertaining teacher with a fun personality. Sometimes class can be boring but what class isn't at some point?
Great teacher and a lot of fun. I really didn't want to take a speech class but it was a required cr. I'm so glad I had her, I enjoyed her class and her as a person.
Great teacher and a lot of fun. I really didn't want to take a speech class but it was a required cr. I'm so glad I had her, I enjoyed her class and her as a person.
I was nervous about taking a speech class, but Professor Bridges made it easier to handle. She grades fairly and quickly, so you'll know your grade for an assignment often on the same day you turn it in if you know how to use Blackboard.
Very nice teacher. Tries to make class fun. Lectures are a little boring but a farly easy class.
She is so nice, easy class, interseting. Likes to talk alot, but it is comm class! Def take again!
She loves speech. She has a way of making you cheerful and interested in the class. Is always offering suggestions on how to remember things making the two easy tests even easier. She gives your grades back very quickly. I live close to the school, and I could get out of class, get home, jump on the computer and know my score.
Great class. As long as you keep on top of the assignments you'll be fine. Have to read the book for the tests. Makes class fun, lots of stories and examples.
Good teacher! Just don't be an idiot in her class and every thing is good.
cool teacher. easy going.
Overall, the class is very simple. You need to be at class because there are a lot of in class group work. Midterm is online, and is very simple. When taking the final, she gives you a study guide, and if you study that, then you will get an "A". CONS: She treats you like you are in elementary school, and tends to make you feel stupid sometimes
She seems nice at first, but when confronting her about issues outside of class I always felt she was a bit condescending. Class is easy enough, all you really need to do is put in some effort on the assignments.
She is wonderful!! Just go to class and do what she asks of you and you will get a great grade!! I am take a second speech class cause she is so awesome
Very picky on speechs but tells you exactly what you need. Follow the outline she give you, you'll do great!!
Ayanna Bridges was a very easy teacher, that does a lot of group work, and she wants everyone to be very active in class. Although she's not my favorite teacher at Maple Woods, she is probably the best one out of all Speech teachers. Also, you do your speech in front of your group of 5 or 6 instead of the whole class all year! Thats the postive!
was not excited about taking this class but she tries her hardest to make it as easy as possible. she splits the class in half rather than giving your speech in front of entire class
She was nice at the beginning of the semester, but then she was very anal about a lot of things. Overall easy class.
Dr.Bridges is a very good professor. She does a great job of making everyone feel as comfortable as possible and making her expectations clear.
Ms. Bridges is a very nice person and her class was fun, I just don't feel like I learned anything. It's an easy class though. Just don't expect to get a lot of feedback on your speeches.
not very good
Pointless class. She makes it boring and repeats herself millions of times. Never covered half of what she tested us on either.
If you are uncomfortable/do not like public speaking Ayanna Bridges Speech 102 class is for you. You only have to give three speeches, one being a group speech and the class is not hard. I will say she is nice and easy, but is very unclear with her expectations. Just show up and put in some effort and you will get an easy A.
Is not very helpful. Gives grades lower than what is actually should be given. I would not recommend her to anybody.
Dr. Bridges is a good instructor. She is a fair grader (maybe even a little too fair), so you won' lose a lot of points on things. Her tests are fairly simple (25 questions and straight from the lectures) The only way you can fail this class is if you didn't put forth the effort. Come to class and pay attention, and you will finish strong.
Super easy, the only thing that bothered me was she is a doctor but still uses words like "axe a question" or "pichures" No need for textbook dont waste money
She has no leniency whatsoever. if you miss one source on something she wont give you credit and you can't give the speech(I missed 100 points because of this). she constantly repeats herself and makes no sense half the time.
Dr. Bridges was so great and really helpful. The point of this class was to show you how important college is and how to succeed; and Ayanna inserted her own "How I learned" stories and really emphasized the importance of the material.
I have taken her before for speech and enjoyed it and her as a teacher. I decided to take her intro to film class. She makes this elective class way to hard. She does not treat it as a "Intro" class she acts like you are majoring in film. She grades hard in this class and the info she wants us to know is not got across well.
She can get on your nerves but she knows her stuff and her class is easy. I didnt like her that much but towards the end I was about to fail, she took time to help me with two of my presentations plus the final so I could pass. Just bear with her and show her your trying and you will pass.
She's really cool. Makes a terrifying subject fun. Yes speech can be nerve-wracking but she makes it easy to understand as long as you do your work. Very nice.
I'm not sure where all of the kind reviews are coming from. She's constantly giving out zeros without reason. She doesn't give you a reason for the grade you have. I've stayed after class multiple times for extra help, just to have her rudely tell me to email her the questions (which she never responds to). She doesn't even teach the class.
This was an 8 week speech class. She had a clear syllabus so you knew exactly when things were due. I liked her. She grades things fast and answers questions quickly. Really like her but not speaking in public ha!
Honestly the rudest person I've ever met. It sickened me to have to see her twice a week.. She yelled "wrap it up" in the middle of someone's speech. She does not go over ANYTHING in class that is on the midterm or final.
This is literally the worst class I have ever taken. For the summer class she gives quizzes every day- these quizzes do NOT match up to the reading she assigns. I would never wish this class upon anyone.
Extremely disorganized. I took her film class and it was always a guessing game if we had an assignment due and where the assignment could be found on her website. Gives 0 for no reason. Just so disorganized and rude that it hurts your grade even if you're trying. She doesn't care to actually teach the class. I really didn't learn anything.
I took an 8 weeks online class, super easy if you can record 3 speeches in front of 12 people who are 16 years old or more and two speeches withno audience required. the teacher was very helpful I graduated with 96.3. you will breeze through it if you do the work on time. you will have 8 unit quizzes and one final test and 20 assignments. that's it
PROJECTS! PROJECTS! PROJECTS! I love Dr. Bridges! She is one of the most down to earth professors with a doctorate. Be prepared for lots of creative work, it will be fun. I would recommend her to everyone.
Very rude. not helpful in the slightest. Very specific requirements for your group projects, and very little time to complete them.
8 weeks online class, test are easy. you have to record 3 speeches in front of 12 people who are 16 years old or more and record two speeches with no audience required. you will breeze through it if you do the work on time. you will have 5 speeches that you will upload to Youtube, 8 unit quizzes and one final test and 20 short assignments incl DB
Ayanna was a great professor! She worked with me on grading and helped with resources! I had a great semester and the key to her class is communication hence, the class! Love!
It is a long class, but the assignments are pretty easy. Quizzes are all on the computer and only one test, which is the final. You do have to write a paper that is 7 pages long, but after she gives you the rubric for it you will see it is actually pretty easy to do. And you get snacks when you watch movies in class.
There is a lot of homework but not overwhelming and easy to accomplish. She gives you everything you need to pass tests. The hardest part is you must record your speeches in front of 12 people. Taking an online class and not being in a classroom setting made this a challenge.
Dr. Bridges is not very accessible, which makes an online class even tougher. There was also zero feedback with her grading. On trial run speeches there were no ideas for improvement, no explanation when sub-par grades were given out. Felt very much like you were left to figure everything out on your own, withouth any guidance or help along the way
Great teacher, made speech class fun even when I was scared to talk in front of class.
. I heard nothing but great things about this class but my experience was not very good. Better luck to you.
Not helpful at all. I took her online speech class and anytime I emailed her with a question I often only received back one worded responses. She gives zeros without really explaining why, and comes off as rude. I was so happy I only took her 8 week course because I was so beyond fed up with her. Best of luck to you if you decide to take her class.
Shes very nice Just make sure u keep up with the work
Very unprofessional. Terrible in class activities that are meant to make you more comfortable with your peers that end up being awkward messes that you don't have enough time to even discuss how to do in your group. When you do have a speech most of her grading includes telling you that you didn't include enough even when you were over on time.
Do not take this class online! There were 3 formal speeches that had to have 12+ adult people present. She will let you do all of them in one setting if like me you're unable to gather that many people to hear your speeches. This class was so stressful sure it wouldve been less stressful if it were taken in person.
Great teacher. If public speaking isnt your thing like me, youll still get a good grade in this class. There are a total of 4 speeches you have to give. Introduction, Informative, Group project, and Persuasive speech. I definitely recommend her!!
I was in her Comm100 class. She is strict in her own ways, but if you ask she would clearly answer your question. Need to show up for class, will give you example of the speeches that she wants and straight forward on what she is looking for. Her instruction a very clear. Hard, bur rewarding. Would take again if I need to take comm or speech class
Bridges made speech class easy for me. She had a very structured class so it was easy to follow along. There isn't much homework. Make sure to cater specifically to her outlines, it makes the creation process easier. Always use the database for information it is much easier. Practice your speech and it will tremendously improve your performance.
4 speeches in the semester. 1 of them was a group project. YOU WILL have to get up and speak in front of a class and... surprise, you have to be confident and give a good speech to get a good grade. Just do a topic you actually care about, do a little bit of preparing beforehand and you'll be fine. She doesn't grade ThAt harshly, just be prepared
Everyone seems to love Dr. Bridges, but in my opinion, it is because she does not push them. She never checked note cards before speeches, so most students just read a full speech from their cards. She tends to ramble, but otherwise has entertaining lectures. Take her if you want to pass, but consider someone else if you need to be pushed to learn.
Taking her online speech class was honestly the worst thing I have ever done. She doesn't make instructions obvious, and when Blackboard had been down several times, she didn't even bother to listen to the fact that I literally had no clue about the due date. I was under the impression that it was due at midnight like everything else had been.
She was an amazing professor. I am not normally a speach person, but after her class, I no longer have a fear of public speaking!
If you use the wrong document one time prepare to fail. Also be aware of the way she grades I went off the rubric she provided and she still failed me.
I was so nervous to take speech, I am not good with public speaking at all! But taking this class with Ayanna Bridges made things easy. I took her class through zoom & we only needed to present our speeches in front of 5 other ppl, not the entire class. She's clear on her instructions, and if you do your work (it's not a lot) you'll get an A.
Dr. Bridges has a great personality! I took her class over the summer with zooms. As long as you stick to the rubric and prepare for speeches, you will be just fine. You do use the textbook, but mostly only for the midterm and final exams. I highly recommend this class over zoom b/c it gets you out of your comfort zone, but being at home helps!
She is a detailed grader: gives extremely specific instructions, if you do those things, you will get full credit. This was a speech class and 4 speeches were required, via video, with no audience required. Each week there was also very easy things like discussion board posts and checklists to complete, all worth points.
Unorganized and forgetful I wont take a class with her again. Shes very unorganized and can be pretty rude. She has some humor but shes literally all over the place.
Rude. Unorganized. Lack of communication.
She was absolutely the worst She never understands situations in life that come between school. She isnt specific about due dates nor does she reply to emails often. And when she does reply, its a plain short answer which never has answered any of my questions. Wouldnt recommend sorry.
Requires you to purchase an online textbook for $80 written by her for her online course, does not work out of blackboard besides turning in assignments even though its an online class, also an additional $30 for a video service(required). She is not understanding and extremely rude, I dropped the class just save yourself the time.
Everything she goes over in class is on Blackboard, she makes everything so clear and easy to understand. Sometimes she wouldget upset with students and not hold back I was kind of scared but it made me try! Pay attention on the zoom call, she wants you to listen. But if you don't, everything is online. All the content is in the textbook, need that
Dr. Bridges is a nice person and values participation, but for a 100-level class makes the content more difficult than necessary. She requires you to buy the book she wrote for the class and that is what the midterm and finals are over. Some of her grading criteria I find overboard tedious whenever it should be for completion at that stage of work.
I wasn't sure how this class would go according to the reviews, but it wasn't bad for me over the summer. She's actually pretty nice & helpful. You just have to do well on your speeches irl & do good on your outline outside of class. My only downside is you would have pay a $80-100 textbook outside of class for testings + read chapters. Too $$$.
She was always helpful and never judged. Would recommend to anyone for an 8 week in person class.
Be prepared to participate a lot, and be prepared to talk to others.
I took her 8 week in person class over the summer and for being a nervous speaking person myself I loved her and she was soo caring and nice when we had to give speeches. I'm not sure how you can do bad in her class. This is an easy A and she genuinly cares about her students wish I could take her for another class.
Dr. Bridges was an amazing professor. She is very understanding. I would 10/10 take her class again. She is VERY clear on directions which is important. I had quite a few questions during the semester, and she responded quickly to my messages and is judgmental free. I really enjoyed her class.
Overall she was an easy grader and I actually enjoyed her class. I enjoyed working in small groups and working with them. She does a great job of breaking the ice. She has 12 discussions within the textbook which are VERY easy and easy points. During your presentations she gives feedback for the next presentation.
Kind teacher. The teacher likes to give lectures that will end up taking much longer than needed. She has her own online textbook and requires you to buy it to submit assignments through it. Overall though her class was good and I would have no problem taking it again.
Dr. Bridges is very easy to go to for questions and understands her students have other things outside of class. Lectures can get long but she makes them entertaining most of the time. Textbook is online- make sure to listen 1st day of class of where to get it. Midterm & final are based on the textbook & you can retake them before the due date.
Dr. Bridges was an average teacher. She is very friendly and understanding of your time and responsibilities outside of school. With that being said she gets side tracked often and lectures over virtually the same thing every day. The textbook is written by her and it has lots of errors. The exams are through the book as well and are rough.
Dr. Bridges is tough but she knows what she is doing. You give class speeches but she understands anxieties and nervousness so she gives out options for signing up for certain days, she has high expectations and requires a lot within speeches but overall is a good professor.
She's a fine teacher, if you're a good public speaker this class will be easy but you'll never get 100%. She's given me points off but will never tell me what I did wrong. Very strict late policy. Says that if you have a good reason to submit late she'll take it but i missed an assignment for personal reasons and she didn't let me resubmit.
Simply, this is the instructor that your high school teacher warned you about. Very strict grading policy, her syllabus and class instruction read as if she has a grudge on you. Assignments are due on Friday. In finals week she moves the due dates to Thurs at NOON! Why? Who knows. No other instructor has done that to us here, ever. Students beware.
Save yourself and don't take classes with Ayanna. Her class was very difficult class and it shouldn't be difficult at all. Her textbook is written by herself and the website always glitches. She also has a habit of accusing you of cheating (I know people that experienced this) and she doesn't respond to emails if she does, she is rude.
If you have this class, make sure not to ever go out of town for any reason at all. Ayanna is NOT one to compromise with and is not understanding about having other priorities besides her class. I dropped her class because after I communicated my absence, she made it a point to passive aggressively mention it in her lectures. Do. Not. Take.
Great professor, very clear in what she wants out of speech outlines and speeches. Answers any questions you might have. Grades in a timely manner and gives good feedback. Although she is very strict on deadlines and attendance. Thankfully I did not have to go out of town or get sick this semester.
Dr. Bridges is a nice woman, but I found that she didn't explain material well and I really didn't enjoy her class. We gave a total of four speeches in the year. She wrote her own textbook and requires us to buy it online. The homework was easy, as the main focus was the speeches. I took the hybrid class, but there was no online learning.
Ayanna Bridges has the easiest class I've ever taken, she gives an outline to fill out for every speech and encourages creativity in speeches. My only problem was that she was VERY strict about attendance. In total I had around 5 speeches including the intro speech. 2 speeches were around 3 minutes and the others around 5 minutes.
She is a very nice person. However, the book she makes you purchase is her own, and it's quite expensive and has a lot of errors inside. Class is mainly speeches, but she separates the days so you don't speak in front of the whole classroom, which is appreciated.
She was very respectful and understanding. She always made it a point to make sure we felt comfortable and relaxed. The course itself was very light, with little testing. She has you scheduled days to speak so you only speak in front of 5-8 which is great for those not fond of speaking in front of big crowds.
She has a great teaching style. A lot of "mental health matters" and very "for the students." If you follow the textbook, you'll be great, and it's not difficult to read. Exams are in the textbook, taken on your own time, but they have a due date. The speeches aren't awful; you only do them in front of a handful of students. Very sweet and helpful.
If you plan on taking her class, don't do a hybrid class. She's a pretty good teacher, but I had a really hard time enjoying the class because all the lessons were being rushed since we had half the amount of classes as a full in person class and she doesn't post lessons on the virtual days. The class would have been better if I did it in person.
I took COMM100 as a summer class, so 8 wks. I think the course load was very managable given the short time. Dr. Bridges is a tough grader though. She's very straight to the point and leaves very little room for error, not very flexible at all. Things to consider!
I wasn't sure what to expect with an online comms class but it was pretty easy. You are required to present in front of 5 people but I lived alone so I went to senior living homes and it was actually a lot of fun. I took this as an 8 week course and was surprised about the small workload. If you take online classes try to get her.
Don't count on her ever accepting late work. I was nervous for the speeches, but she really broke it down step by step. She is professional but also cares and understands personal lives. The speeches were not given in front of the whole class, but rather in small groups. There are opportunities for extra credit.
