This professor has the ability to simplify complex topics so students can understand and truly cares about the success of students. The practice problems and quizzes matched perfectly with the exams, and there were never any surprises. I took this class accelerated in 6 weeks instead of 16 and it was an easy 4.0.
this man... oh god. in addition to being difficult to understand surface level, the man never explains ANYTHING. there is also no T.A.s like im sorry WHAT. a girl tried to ask a question and he signaled her to lower her hand because he doesnt take questions... save yourself.
Literally, just pay attention. I get the feeling a lot of students may not pay attention because of his accent. If you pay attention, you will realize his explanations are very easy to understand. It's organic chemistry so obviously expect to put in some time outside of lecture as well.
At first attending his lectures I had no idea what he was saying because of his accent but he really cares about his students. I asked him to record his lectures and that helped a TON. He can make very complex things become simplified and he even helped me gain some researchers when I asked him for help. Also go to his office hours I swear it helps
Horrible. You can NOT understand a thing he is saying. He has a very heavy accent, which makes it very difficult when trying to learn complex chemistry concepts. He does not care about learning. When students tried to ask question, he would ignore them. He is not tech savvy. He did not understand how to correctly post content online.
He is quite hard to understand which wouldn't be a problem if he didn't speak so fast. He goes through very advanced topics too fast and to brief to for anyone to understand. 90% of your learning in this class will be through the text book or youtube. He is a good guy and he isn't bad. Just not very effective in lectures.
Organic chemistry is naturally going to be hard. The professor does have a thick accent and when you space out, it can be easy to miss the things he's saying. However, his explanations are good and digestible when you focus in lecture. Lectures for his online section are also recorded and uploaded, making it easy to find anything you miss.
Breezes over very complex and difficult topics too quickly. Doesn't explain very well. Heavy accent doesn't help either. If he slowed down it might be better. He posts the lectures which helps if you didn't pick something up in lecture. Orgo is hard no matter what but with this prof you will prob be watching a lot of youtube vids for help.
lectures are very fast and confusing. The exams are harder than any of the reviews and quizzes. You are better off self teaching the materials than going to any lecture. To his credit though, I do believe that Prof Bagzir understands this and provides a very lenient grading scale.
Go to his office hours(OH) & ask questions! He will help you with the homework problems at OH until you get it right, he cares a lot and is willing to help you. He simplifies hard topics very well. He tends to go fast in lectures and has an accent but he records lectures from the online class so you can watch those! Very kind, funny, and easygoing
He has a very thick accent which makes it hard to understand his lectures. you will end up teaching yourself from the textbook. The grading is odd and there are only quizzes and few homework sets. He speeds very fast over important topics but his slides break them down to an easier level.
heavy accent and fast lectures makes it harder to understand but if you ask questions he goes step by step until you get it. Go to office hours he will make sure you get hw correct
Prof Bazgir's class is straightforward. If you just show up to lectures you should be able to get a B. Some concepts can be unclear but if you go to office hours he will explain until you understand. Quiz retakes and Extra credit are offered but they aren't mentioned in the syllabus. He is very knowledgeable and actually cares about your grade.
Ayoob has a heavy accent and is not tech savvy. There are only 2 exams and are heavily weighted. They are also not like the hw or quizzes. He will add more slides to the lecture and not say anything and you will scramble to find it. He does not take questions often and be ready to receive sass. He is funny, but the lectures are draining and a lot.
Dr. Bazgir was one of my favorite professors. Warning, he does have an accent that makes it difficult to understand him at times but you get used to it. He is amazing at explaining concepts and tries his best to help you pass.
Super clear and concise teaching and makes sure to go over things many times so you understand. Graded on 2 exams, 4/6 of the quizzes, and 20 homework questions every other week or so. Recitation is optional and they provide the questions from that for practice. He did provide extra credit at the end of the semester. Final is cumulative
Dr. Bazgir breaks down confusing topics into more understandable material. However, good luck if you have any questions because he does not understand how to answer them. Exams are heavily weighted and there's only 2 of them!! Get ready to put time into this class.
Whenever i emailed him about a quiz question i didn't understand why i got wrong, he emailed me back almost always within an hour, with an explanation and images to help me. He was very good in lecture and would even demonstrate stereochemistry to us with molecules. he even would say funny things during class and even get the class to laugh at 8am
Dr. Bazgir is an amazing professor. He is extremely kind, caring and fair. He gives out a ton of extra credit to help relieve the stress of the class. He explains the concepts very well in lecture, but also has super helpful Office hours where he will help with anything. The lectures are not mandatory, but I highly recommend going!!
Hes my sweet prince. Made Orgo the easiest class ever, IDEK how. If you have to take orgo, take it with Ayoob or don't take it all. WE LOVE AYOOB!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Bazgir is definitely a knowledgeable professor. He responds back to emails relatively quickly and his helpful answering questions. Lectures are extremely long and heavy and his slides/notes are quite disorganized. His explanations are also quite short and he moves through notes very quickly. Dedicate lots of time to this class!
I give all the props to Dr. Bazgir as he tried to make the class understandable, however I found myself constantly lost with nowhere to turn to. He was nice at rescheduling a few quizzes that took place during a test for another class. However, the homework is not like the tests and the midterm + final is worth 55% of your final grade.
Professor Bazgir is a great guy, and very responsive. Lectures are good and answer questions you are confused about. drops 2 lowest quizzes, homework is worth points
Ayoooooooooooooooooob!!!!!!! Great slides, he also posts online lectures and gives extra credit.
Dr. Bazgir is very knowledgeable, but can be hard to approach. Few things are graded; chapter HWs (8), 4 out of 6 quizzes, midterm, and final. Extra credit was given towards the end of the course to boost grades. He can be hard to understand at times, but usually repeats himself in lecture. Lots of studying on your own, not much to practice with.
This class was hard but Dr. Bazgir was a good professor who wanted everyone to succeed. He records his lectures and posts it with the slides, he offered a lot of extra credit, offers retakes, and drops a lot of grades. The lecture slides can be a little confusing and there is not a lot of practice so I recommend reading the textbook.
I would recommend not taking organic chemistry with Ayoob. This class caused so much stress for no reason as the language barrier and thick accent meant that I could not fully follow his lectures. Additionally he would state things such as "just don't fail" or post a pdf with every student's midterm score.
Lectures are boring and a bit of a struggle to focus with just going from slides to slides. He was very kind to his students and understanding and gave retakes and extra credit he does not want his students to fail. Although his accent can be difficult from time to time and unclear what he is teaching.
He honestly isn't a terrible professor. Content moves very quickly, and there's a lot to cover in a short period of time, but when he isn't rushing, he does break things down in a way that is mostly understandable. I did have to YouTube a lot of the content to truly understand it though. He did offer extra credit to help grading.
lots of extra credit opportunities that arent listed in the syllabus. gives great feedback for honours projects
I personally loved ayyob. he was incredibly kind, if you send him an email he responds quickly. he allowed me to make up a quiz i missed and clearly wants students to succeed. orgo 1 is a lot of content and fast paced, and ayoob has a thick accent and is not tech savvy at all. offers extra credit and is overall a great guy
Did it in-person. If possible, do it online (all their assessments are online). Our quizzes were accessible online but the midterm and final were in person. Based off of the original syllabus few people were on track to 4.0, but last 2 weeks he decided to: drop 2 instead of 1 quiz, give retakes, 20 extra credit hw, 10 point final curve + cheat sheet
Professor Bazgir was good. You can tell that he cares greatly for his students and genuinely wants you to succeed. However, orgo itself is difficult so go to class!! He does have a thick accent, but if you pay attention, you can understand what is going on. I'd also reccommend that you buy the orgo for dummies book; it pairs well with this class.
This professor really does care about getting us through the class. Lots of opportunities for extra credit which was great. Overall very nice and caring.
I took CEM 251 with him and am not in 252 with him as well. He covers what we need to know and does so in a concise manner. He (and his TA's) is/are accessible outside of class to help students. Go to office hours if you need it and you will be able to succeed. One of my favorite classes and had great instruction!
I loved Prof. Bazgir. His lectures were well organized and his quizzes accurately tested the material. Prof. is caring and easy to communicate with. He responds to emails quickly and is understanding.
I love Professor Bazgir! I was intimidated taking Orgo 1 at first but he takes the time to answer questions, re-explain topics, gives many examples, and gives many practice problems. I have also heard his office hours were very helpful which I regret not taking advantage of. I am taking him again for Orgo 2!
Had him for two semesters and I think he is a gift to chemistry. Makes lectures available online, in case if you want to sleep in (I have the 8m). Funny guy who makes me want to come to lecture and learn. 100/10.
Professor Bazgir is your best bet at understanding organic chemistry. A professor can only lead you so far, but Bazgir is understanding and is always willing to reexplain topics and gives good examples during office hours. Orgo is difficult, especially as a first-gen student where you lack a lot of connections and experience. In short; TAKE HIM.
Very easy professor but leads me to not remember the material or even learn it. Gave around 11% of the total grade as extra credit for CEM 252 and rounded by CEM 251 grade by like 5% with a lot of extra credit on top of that.
Professor Bazgir is great! Recorded lectures, lecture slides, practice problems, & exam reviews are all on D2L. The grade is 4 quizzes, 2 midterms, final exam, & Aktiv homework. He is very accommodating to students & offers many extra credit opportunities. Although there is a lot of difficult material in orgo, he does not try to "trick" students.
Chemistry is hard but Bazgir will go out of his way to help! He is absolutely the best prof!
Ayoob is the best. Chemistry really isn't my forte and I was scared out of my wits about taking orgo, but Ayoob really makes it easy to understand. He really wants you to succeed in his class. Gives out extra credit no problem. Makes sure to poll the class for questions, if any, after he explains a part of the topic being covered. He's also funny.
He gave a lot of extra credit and had very good detailed lectures, he also was helpful and accomodating.
Best professor ever
Bazgir is very knowledgeable and he is just a great professor. Some people complain about his accent, but it's actually pretty easy to understand him. Just show up to lecture and you can easily get a 3.5 or above since he gives out lots of extra credit. Not too much homework, just 4 quizzes and a few tests. He also has a good sense of humor. 10/10
This is the best professor at msu. Organic is such a hard class, but this professor is funny and so smart. He has an accent, but you get used to it very fast. The material is hard but there is so much extra credit that makes a huge difference in your grade. I cannot explain how good of a professor he is and can't wait to take him again. #Ayoobontop
BEST PROF EVER. love this man. I was so scared for organic chemistry but he makes it so easy. I genuinely understand everything from his lectures and the homework was not bad at all. 20 questions for each chapter and there is 50 points EC. He's also hilarious and made me laugh in my 8 am lecture. Don't take this class unless he is your professor.
Honestly, best prof I've had here, I'm even taking him again next semester for 252. Posts all lectures online so you don't technically have to go to class, and offers a ton of EC. He is very funny in lecture and is always available to help. Homework is graded on accuracy, but you have 3-6 attempts/question depending on the assignment.
Best professor at MSU. Truly loves his job and is freaking hilarious. Makes Orgo easy. So much extra credit and exams are easy. GOAT.
Dr. Bazgir is a really funny professor, and he takes time to explain everything in depth. His accent is a little heavy, however, it's understandable enough to get a great grade in the class. He provided so much extra credit during the class time that it literally could've "erased" a bombed midterm from your grades.
Dr. Bazgir is a really good professor and his lectures are really concise and easy to follow. He gives out lots of extra credit (+1 for every recitation attended, +50 for practice problems) and is very easy to reach outside of class despite having hundreds of students. Highly recommend taking this class, he makes Orgo easy and understandable.
My persian prince. He is literally the best orgo professor you can have. Do not listen to the 1/5 person, clearly they did not gaf about their grades because if they actually took the time to listen they wouldn't even need the extra credit. He lets you leave for the quizzes and their online. ASK HIM QUESTIONS ON EXAMS!!
My glorious Persian king, my all-time goat, I cannot stress how much I recommend taking 251 with Dr. Bazgir. As other reviews have mentioned, he provides plenty of extra credit in his class. Additionally, he is super accessible outside of lectures and generally responds to emails within an hour or less in my experience.
Professor Bazgir is by far the best prof I have ever had. Orgo is hard, but he makes it as easy and understandable, and as a plus, he is hilarious. He offers plenty of extra credit and wants you to do well - always available outside of class. Looking forward to 252 with him, I would only take this class with him if at all possible.
The Michael Jordan of Organic Chemistry at MSU. Dr. Bazgir is an amazing guy, hilarious lecturer, constantly available outside class and makes Organic digestible and understandable. The only knock on him is that he gave out so much extra credit it almost led me not to learn the material, but if you study out of class it's just more of a boost.
I enjoyed your lectures a lot, it was easy and understandable to follow along. I know that I skipped one of the lectures, but I'm glad you posted it online, if we couldn't make it to class, because personally for me I would get stressed out if I didn't know what we are covering. I utilized the office hours you held (thanks to one of my friends)!
THIS MAN IS A HERO! Please take him when you take organic chemistry, you will be glad you did!
Great Professor. He makes the class lighthearted and fun, and gives a LOT of extra credit, making a difficult subject more manageable. His accent is a bit thick, so it may be a challenge if you struggle with that, but it's honestly easy to get used to. Definitely taking him again for orgo 2!
There aren't many grades that he puts in, just tests and quizzes. However, he hands out extra credit like it's candy. He also records lectures, which is helpful when you don't want to drag yourself to the 8 a.m. lecture. Overall, he is good at teaching the concepts.
Dr. Bazgir is a fantastic professor and extremely likable. Makes lectures extremely enjoyable and understandable. Orgo is hard no matter what professor you have but he tries his hardest to make sure everyone understands the content. Very easy to 4.0 as well since he gives out so much extra credit.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Funny, but watch out for small details on quizzes and exams! Neither class nor recitation is mandatory (and he posts shortened lectures online), but I highly recommend going. Recitations are also bonus points for attending. All my extra credit meant I only needed 45% on the final instead of 87% for a 4.0!
You are making a mistake by taking any other orgo prof. This guy made orgo genuinely an enjoyable class. He is super funny, makes things really easy to understand (his accent is thick but easy to understand after a lecture or two), super accessible and you cant get any bettwe grading in any other class. 4.0 is extremely achievable. TAKE HIS CLASS!
He is literally the GOAT, make sure you take him for orgo!
This professor truly wants everyone to succeed. Homework is what you see on quizzes, quizzes are almost exactly what you see on the exams. overall a really good professor. Do the homework, learn how to do it the other ways (where the answer becomes the question). Learn that, you'll be just fine. (for reference, I failed CEM 141)
Beware of his accent for some people that can be a game changer. He likes to move on from information fast without much context other than writing it on the board only to erase it 2 minutes later. If the material was taught different with more consideration for the students I feel like I would've done better.
Organic chemistry goat. TAKE HIM IF YOU NEED TO TAKE ORGO.
WORTH TAKING THE 8AM FOR! Ayoob loves to teach and is very funny during lectures, but he also posts them online so you don't even need to go. There is SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT, no one should pass with less than a 4.0 imo. He wants everyone to do good and he makes it very easy to; I would highly recommend him for Orgo 1 and 2. He is a great caring prof!
WORTH TAKING THE 8AM FOR! He offers lots of extra credit as the class is only a few hw grades, 4 quizzes, the 2 midterms and final. His class is all lectures (with slides posted) and he posts recorded lectures online. He is very funny and tries to keep the students engaged during class. I would highly recommend, ONE OF THE BEST PROFS AT MSU.
This guy is one of the best professors I've ever had. Breaks down Orgo very well and provides plenty of resources to learn inside and outside of class. Very funny and plenty of extra credit opportunities which make the class lower stress. Genuinely sad that the class is over. The Persian Prince is the professor to take Orgo I and II with.
Bazgir is a great Prof. If you can get him for organic chem, do it. Helped me 4.0, available outside of class and always willing to re-explain concepts. Made material feel easy. Straight forward with concepts so they were easy to get. Lots of extra credit and online assessments.
He genuinely wants his students to succeed. He gives so many opportunities for extra credit and ways to boost your grade. If you don't understand a topic talk to him and he will take the time to explain until it makes sense.
Great lectures, lots of in-class examples on the chalkboard, much extra credit, great at explaining complex concepts simply, and overall a chill dude.
Take Ayoob for orgo, and nobody else. his 8am lectures both semesters are the only 8am classes I've ever taken, only because I actually loved the class. Orgo is notoriously a weeder class but NOT Ayoobs class. You will learn the material so well and enjoy it. This might be a hot take but general chem was harder than his classes. Take his class!
I had Dr. Bazgir for orgo 1 and 2. I absolutely would recommend him to anyone! He taught the material is a very straightforward manner, reviewed content during the lecture before the exam, answered all my questions during office hours, and offered tons of extra credit. He absolutely wants his students to succeed. 10/10 recommend!!
I LOVE AYOOB!!! SO much EC offered because he simply wants you to do well in this course. Lectures are posted online so if you miss a class you can get caught up (or never go to class if you want to). Always posts practices before the exams as well as videos. Learn the different reactions and you should do great!
Prof. Bazgir was one of the best professors I've had here. He made orgo 2 so easy with all of the extra credit he offered and his great lectures. I took orgo 1 online and was nervous about taking 2 in person but it was the best choice I could've made.
AYOOB IS MY MAN. I 4.0d easily in orgo 1&2 bc of this blessing of a man. He's my favorite professor I've ever had. Very loved by his students. Offers so much extra credit I had to get a 20% on the final to 4.0. Lectures are funny and engaging. Requires effort but that is normal, the bad reviewers are the people who expect to 4.0 without any effort.
Ayoob is hands down the best professor at MSU. 4.0'd both Orgo I and II because of him. He offers tons of extra credit, gives engaging and fun lectures, and truly wants you to do well. You have to put the effort forth, but you will do well if you do. I wouldn't take orgo with anyone else!
Ayoob is a great professor and his lectures are always interesting; I always came even though attendance wasn't mandatory. There is lots of extra credit, making it fairly easy to 4.0 if you don't do well on exams. He always reviews content at the beginning of lecture before starting new material which I found very helpful.
Amazing teacher for orgo. His lectures and slides makes organic chemistry much easier to understand. Would highly recommend taking him if you can.
one of the best teachers i have had at MSU. I had Dr. Bazgir for both Orgo1 and orgo 2 and struggled a lot in the beginning but he was always very patient and didnt mind re-explaining things 30 different times lol. i am not the best in chem but i remember so much from his classes ! if you put in the work, his classes are an easy 4.0 and he gives ec
Dr Bazgir is the best professor at MSU, hands down! He gives his class amiable opportunities to succeed by offering a ton of extra credit and quiz retakes. Even if Dr. Bazgir gave us 0 extra credit and no quiz retakes, it would still be easy to 4.0 the class due to the engaging way he teaches the class. It is semi-impossible to do bad in his class.
Best teacher to take for orgo makes the class feel like a breeze and teaches it perfectly also makes it very clear what will be on the exam and gives you materials for it.
He is very lecture heavy, go to the lectures and make sure you understand, as while he moves on quickly, he will go over it as many times as you need during class if you have questions. He also has recorded lectures available, but I don't find them to be as helpful as going to class. He is always very engaging and truly wants you to succeed!
Very good lectures and professor. If you attend class and try to understand, you will do good.
Lecture can be a bit fast but he posts video lectures online so you can go over it. Overall if you try somewhat the class is very manageable.
Prof. Bazgir is a great professor and clearly knows the material and wants to see his students succeed. The homework and extra credit assignments saved my grades. I am not a good chemistry student and I was very surprised at the amount of care Bazgir puts into answering students' questions, even during quizzes or after exams.
Prof. Bazgir is a great professor and clearly wants his students to succeed. While his accent at times makes it difficult to understand lectures, he is always happy to take questions during lecture and even helps during quizzes. I am not a good chemistry student so the multiple extra credit opportunities and easy homework was a grade-saver.
He's the goat, lecture is worth going to even though the slides are posted. There are so many resources available to practice and the class is structured to be very forgiving with make up quizzes and EC, will be taking him again for Orgo 2
He explained things really well and made it so easy to be able to learn from. If you miss a lecture he has them all recorded and posted on D2L so you don't miss anything. He gives so much practice and help, especially with recitations as well. You also get extra credit options! Super helpful professor and good at teaching.
Incredible
I was super scared to take orgo, but Ayoob made it so easy. He explains everything clearly and reviews past content at the beginning of lectures. 8am lectures with attendance not required, but I still went. Activ takes a while to get the hang of, but there's also 10% (or more) extra credit offered. Needed 24% on the final to 4.0. Highly recommend!
He is very kind and curves grades/gives extra credit based off of the class's needs. I had around a 75% in the class but ended up with a 100% because of how much extra credit he gave out. His lectures are engaging and he provides the lectures online as well. The subject itself is hard but Dr. Bazgir helped me understand a lot about orgo chem.
Dr. Bazgir is an excellent professor. His lectures are very engaging and full of examples to help solidify content understanding. Apart from his office hours, he is also always happy to accommodate if you have questions or want to meet in-person. Lots of opportunities for extra credit. Overall, a great experience.
Professor Bazgir is very knowledgeable and offers many resources to for you to succeed in his class. Although I would still recommend studying with peers outside of class often. His grading is forgiving, since he allows retakes for many quizzes and takes your highest grade out of the two attempts.
Great prof, lots of opportunities for extra credits, I got a OK Exams and quizzes but bcs I did all the hws and extra credits, which you got tons of time for btw, and I got a 4.0. If you miss his lectures, the video lecture are still great and they are not too long. Most lectures he also lets you leave early which is great. great prof, good man.
I would go to war for him - gives a lot of extra credit - extra tries on the hw if you ask - he will help on quizzes and tests - he wants you to pass
