He seemed to really enjoy teaching. Gives you lots of cheat sheets to use on test. Overall a really nice guy. Dont bother going to discussion though.
He's a Good Teacher, make sure you know Stat AP or Stat 13 well because this course is practically the same, T.A. is useless. All his practice tests are good examples of the midterms and final exams, however to much busy work regaurding homework.
Course is very similar to sta 13, tests are quite easy, parallel the sample midterms. The homework is often too long, and doesn't reflect the tests/lecture well. Don't bother with discussion of TA's.
This guy really made stats easy. He's a pretty decent teacher. Best part is cheat sheets. 2 pages, 2x sided for the midterms, 4 pages sx sided for final. Put the practice exams (w/ answers) and some notes, and you're golden. The projects suck though.
very easy class. very easy teacher. discussion is only if u need help on the hw, but mostly a waste of time. tests similar to practice midterms. there are cheat sheets, so no use in memorizing formulas, just write really small. easy A
I cannot stress the point that he does not know how to word his tests at all!! First you would think he is asking you to do this equation on one thing, but once you get your test back, you'll realize he was actually asking for something else! I HATE THAT!
he drops one midterm that u get the lowest grade. he allows 2 sheets of notes on midterms and 3 sheets of note on final. if u know how to use the equations and plug in numbers, you can do pretty well.
Extremely easy, as easy as Stats 13. Get all the tests from someone in the previous quarters class and you'll be ok. also figure out how to crack the code online so you never have to do a homework.
He's a great teacher, but for a few people like me stats is miserable. I despised every concept. Since this is upper div, the class I'd say is a bit difficult; however to most it's easy. Well if you don't like concepts, or haven't taken a stats class in a while study a little. He's great overall!
For a GE upper division class this class is by far the most demanding for me. I don't really enjoy the subject but I try extremely hard in the class. Since the tests are curved he has to throw curve balls to throw off most people. Your either know it or don't in this class.
NOT A GOOD TEACHER.
A really sweet guy...clear and organized...very helpful...good class
Dr. Azari is not very clear in his lectures. A good advice would be to go to his TA's OH and work with her on your problems. The lowest midterm will be dropped and HW counts for 10%. Overall, this class seems hard in the beginning, but if you understand the concepts and use his TAs, you'll be ok,
Not a very good teacher. I find that he has a thick accent. His homework assignments, class examples, and example quizes/midterms are completely different from the real quizes and midterms. His wording on quizes are completely different from what you'll experience in class or in the homework.
nice guy..but is hard..i dont know how ppl say he is easy, out of 300 kids only 10 As and mostly C's. I guess he is an easy C but if ur concerned about ur gpa then mayb u should avoid him.
Not easy, but if you work hard you will get a good grade. His lectures are confusing some times, but his accent is no problem I understood him perfectly. Discussions are helpful sometimes. Overall I wished there was an easy way to earn an A but unfortunately there isn't.
the material is easy overall but questions from exams are tricky and no good curve!
not really easy but he really is a cute grandfather type who cares about teaching... not an easy A but i studied quite a bit and hopefully will pull off a B without any prior stats experience... has an accent so beware but its still understandable.
The dude is a wiz. His lectures are very specific, and his examples are a mirror of what his exams questions will be like. The guy is more concerned about a students ability to reason/analyze. He values theories, but is more focused on intuition. Thumbs up for Professor A!!!!
Not fun. Sucks. Midterm doesn't coincide with the homework, notes, and sample midterm. HW doesn't work with notes, and they're irrelavant to the book. He lectures using P^, whereas the book uses the symbol for pi. pi is supposed to be 3.14. The book is fifth edition when everyone else has the ninth.
punjabi teacher, boring lectures. practice exams aren't the same as on real midterm. average on midterm 1 was a 67%. he curves entire grades at the very end. ps boring 60 year old indian guy
decent class. you might learn something.
not an easy teacher for stat 13. class average for first and second midterm was 65 and 67. kinda have a thick accent.
Very difficult. Class averages on midterms were very low. Exams did not reflect the material on the practice exams. My recommendation: Go to class AND read the book. Can't get a good grade by doing just one or the other.
He's a very sweet man. Tests aren't hard at all just study the practice midterms. He assigns a lot of hw and projects. Overall he's a very good teacher.
Not a bad class if you understand statistics. Mumbles a lot. Hard to understand. Not very clear.
Very good lecturer, and is genuinely interested in having students learn. Tests were fair and easy if you study. HW was a bit long, and repetitive at times. Good at explaining and helpful, too. He's a nice old man. Don't go to discussion. I Strongly recommend him.
Azari is God! You'll never meet a man more passionate about statistics than Azari. No, he's not super easy, and yes, he does have an accent, but he's always willing to help. He even gets a twinkle in his eye when people ask him questions after class. Good professor. Sweetest man ever!
i loved azari! he was the sweetest little man ever. the man LOVES statistics and he wants you to love it, too. his accent isn't bad and he posts the lecture notes beforehand so you can print them and take notes easier. he really wants you to understand the material, not just memorize formulas.
Guy is incredibly boring in class, but his exams are fair and he tends to be quite nice during office hours. If you must take Stats, I'd take Azari... and if you're like me and don't go to class, so much the better.
Sta 100 is an easy class, u actually learn a lot from the class, but prof really doesn't help in the office hour. so dont expect him to give u much help from the office hours
Easy class. Easy A. Cheatsheets are SWEET! And no need to go to class...everything's in the book. Do the hw and you'll be fine. Put EVERYTHING on ur cheatsheet helps a great deal on the exams. He doesn't explain too well in lectures and gives formulas without explaining why they work...plug & chug..
mumbles a lot and kind of have a thick accent..but hes passionate about what he is teaching.
he is the cutest thing ever.He is very passionate and has the comb over hair cut. he is very helpful in his office hours. he does have an accent but he gives very good notes and goes over everything that u would need to know.
If you stay on the ball in lectures and homework, you should do well in this class. Azari is a nice guy and genuinely wants his students to learn the material and pass the class. You get to take cheat sheets for the tests and he practically tells you what type of problems will be it. I recommend him
He is very enthusiastic about what he is teaching, but lectures are really boring. The first two tests aren't bad, but the final was really difficult even with 3 pages of notes. The TA does the homework in discussion, so go to it if you need help. Overall, an ok class.
Azari is the man.
i don't know what other people are saying. this class was hard and he was rude to you when you went to office hours. practically the people that say he was a good professor if they got an "A". seriously avoid him. very difficult to understand. hard to get above a C.
hella hard class good luck
Very unclear as to what he wants. Very dry lecturer as well. Get someone else if possible...
class is extremely hard if math is not one of your best subjects. He doesn't really explain his lectures in detail, just kind of looks off a premade note sheet and copies it to the board. You really have to force yourself to understand the material through other resources because he is really bad at teaching them to you.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. His tests and midterms do not resemble his homework assighnments and lecture topics at all. Do not count on the sample midterms either only 1 problem might be somewhat similar but the rest will be completely different. Puts topics on the midterms that were never discussed or given in HW.
The midterm averages are around 60. He mentioned that he gives out less that 10% A's and you can never predict how well you will do on a test...it depends on if you happen to understand the wording of his questions or not. But, if you do study a whole lot you will probably end up with a good grade (or at least not a bad one).
It's the wrost class i've taken so far, the tests were terribly hard, and they were totally not related to the lectures, hws. The discussion doesnt help either, the TAs wont give out answers. Unless it is necessary, plz dun take him.
Have you ever had one of those teachers where you have no idea what they are talking about, but then once you finally teach the material to yourself you see that it's actually much easier than they mad it seem? That's what this guy does. He has no ability to teach. The class isn't that bad, but the guy sucks as a professor.
The homework is pretty easy, but don't be fooled, the tests look NOTHING like the homeworks. He kind of mumbles and writes light and small on the board so it's hard to read. He really wants everyone to do well though, so he's always willing to answer questions.
He has good intentions, he is really nice if you go talk to him about hw or about your grade. But his class is hard!! Not the material, but the tests. The tests are hard, even if you do well on the homework. Be prepared, work hard. This is a challenging class but doable if you put in the effort.
Super easy and helpful prof I've ever seen. If u do well on STA 13, seriously, dun waste ur time in this class cuz basically he just re-taught the material and plused a lil new things in it. Recommend to attd the very last lectures b4 midterms cuz he would review.
don't take him..he's like the worst prof. I have ever had. his exam are reallllllly hard..(out of the blue) The exam questions are not like the homework or the practice exams even though he say it.
AVOID AZARI VERY HARD, exams tough, can't understand him in lecture because of accent.
nice guy but lecture is kind of pointless..he speaks w/ an accent and writes unclearly..if u took AP Stats this class is cake..if not then uh oh..do all the hw thats where i learned the most, and make a good cheat sheet for exams..discussions r used to go over hw..overall an okay class
STA 100 is an easy class if you have taken any kind of stats class before. Professor Azari is a nice guy, even thouth the lecture is kinda boring, the class was easy. There were two projects, kinda annoying. Some topics he didn't explain very well. His test is very similar to the practive problem, but easier. You'll always know what to expect.
Definitely if you have taken stats before, the class is easy. There is basically nothing new if you have taken Stats AP before. Great Prof!
this class is pretty hard, and he is very confusing
he reminds me of a grandpa. hard to stay awake. the class was a pain. he gives sample finals but they aren't 100% exact to the real thing (oh he gives sample midterms too)
In my opinion, professor Azari is a really really nice guy, and if he knows you tried your best, then he will reward you. The test are super duper easy, only when you learn the solutions afterwards. I really didn't study and I ended up with a C. Honestly, Professor Azari is a great guy...he just needs to learn how to "teach" better. P.S. BAD BOOK
although azari can't explain the material very well, but he's a really nice guy! one thing i hated about this class is the txtbook that we used.. it sucks!
Aced both AP Stats and Sta 13 classes in the past. Unfortunately, I really do have short-term memory and everything that the Prof spewed out was confusing enough to look like new material to me. Here's the break down: I aced the homework (worth 10%), failed both midterms (worth 25% ea) and received a C on the final (worth 40%). Final grade: C
Professor azari is very nice and approachable. His lectures are well organized and he teaches you exactly what you need to know. Before midterms, he reviews all the material you will need to know for the test which really helps! Go to his OH cuz that really helps too!
Has a tough accent to get over, lectures can be boring, but are VERY USEFUL. Tests are ridiculously easy.
Pretty good professor overall and a nice guy, but unfortunately stats is not the most interesting of subjects. He did a pretty good job explaining concepts but sometimes misunderstood students questions, which wasn't too bad because he was approachable and helpful when you asked him.
Class is pretty easy. Do the homework and go to discussion and you should be able to skate by. Gives out 2 annoying projects that take about 5-10 hours each. Lets you use notes on midterms. Average on the midterms are usually in the 60's so he curves a bunch. I would recommend him.
too easy. enough said.
Dr. Azari is a great man who really wants his students to do well. I don't blame him for his accent but he talks fast and is hard to understand. The hw are easy but the tests are a different format. Do the practice exams, attend the lectures, and study your butt off to get a good grade!
He covers alot in his class, and homework can be quite long. The tests are easy if you just put some time into studying the materials. Overall a good class.
Great guy! His lectures are CRUCIAL, but very organized and apart from his accent, he's easy to clear and concise. Homework was easy and to the point. You have only 7 homework assignments total that aren't mandatory. Do them, though! Take his class!
He is SO nice! His accent was no trouble at all, in my opinion. The class was relatively easy; it was just basic concepts. His midterms / final were almost exactly like the practice handouts. I never did any homework, but I'd recommend it. Lectures cover material fast. Allowed notes on each exam (3 pgs front and back for the final)! Recommended! :)
Good class, pretty easy if you go to lectures and take notes on the examples he shows. Class isn't curved, but it doesn't need to be because the tests were fair and straightforward.
He's the sweetest, most adorable professor in the world and made me actually like stats (which I thought was impossible) with his positive attitude and genuine love for the material. If you study the practice midterms and make good cheat sheets (which are allowed) you will be fine.
Great professor! The material is fairly easy, and just attending class is enough to get a B at least. If you simply open the book and write out the pages of notes you get for the exams (which will give you an A+ if you actually use) you should have no problem. Lecture is pretty entertaining, and the accent almost disappears after the first class.
His class was in the early morning at 9am, so that is a downer for some. I had a class at 8am, so it didn't really matter. His midterms and the final were okay. He does have curves. His explanations and lectures are a bit confusing, but it is survivable. It helps to look over the HW (it's not graded), for the midterms and final. Overall, he's okay.
I wish he was my grandpa. He's really nice and pretty funny. His accent is fine as long as you sit up front. He lets you use cheat sheets. 1 for MT1, 2 for MT2&3, and 3 for the final. Homework is optional. His tests are 90% true to the practice exams (except longer). I rarely touched the book at all and still got an A. Recommended!
Azari is a goofy guy. I really enjoy statistics, so I really enjoyed his class. Occasionally his explanations would be confusing, but most of the time they were clear. Homework problems and tests were very doable.
Exams easy, multiple note sheets and calculator ok. Short and true to practice exams. HW mandatory, difficult compared to tests, graded hard. Group project due during finals, less than clear on prompt. Sweet guy, accent not too bad. Discussion section not mandatory and generally not helpful.
Human textbook. Not in a good way though. Prof is a very nice guy, but I don't think he's a good teacher. His lectures come straight from the book (going to class is the same thing as copying your textbook). Have to read textbook! Not recommended if you can find another professor.
Easy class. Read the book to get an idea what's going on, then go to class and watch him do examples. Copy down formulae from the text onto your formula sheet before the exams and you'll be fine. No effort required to pass.
Two midterms and one final. Exams are easy as long as you read a textbook and do some problems. His lecture is simple and easy to follow. Reading textbook helps you a lot cause his lecture can be too simple sometimes. Final is 40% so make sure you finish strong.
easy class but not a good professor. accent makes it hard to follow and lectures are tedious. not recommended.
he is veryvery easy
A fairly good professor, but do try to get by his accent and low volume. I feel like this is more of a calculus class than statistics class, as there are a lot of intense math; make sure to know your derivatives and integrals well. Take advantage of the practices and notes. You should get at least a B if you score around the mean for the exams.
Nice guy. Gives HW that is helpful but not collected nor graded. Practice Midterms and Final all very very similar to actual ones. Lets you use cheat sheet/notes. Reccommended :)
Professor Azari makes stat 13 an easy class. To get an A in this class, I recommend not attending lecture, do all of the assigned homework problems, make a cheat sheet with all of the formulas from the relevant chapters, learn how to use a graphing calculator for every problem, and get a hold of old exams, he does not change them too much.
Lecture is helpful but certainly not required. If you just do the homework and make sure you understand and write down the relevant equations, then you'll do fine on the midterms. Homeworks are assigned weekly and graded pretty easily by the TA's. He has an accent, but it's still very easy to understand him.
I don't enjoy math at all, but he tries to present problems in ways easy to understand. Grade is based (at least for my class) on 3 exams. The class is curved at the end. Lets you use note sheets. If you put the work in, you will get the grade you deserve. Do the practice exams and put examples from class on your note sheet! I recommend!
Lectures can be a bit dry, but attending is essential to understand all of the given formulas and examples. The homework answer keys with computer outputs don't really help much, but try to do them by hand on your own. The sample exam mirrors actual exams well, although expect one or two problems from materials covered right before the exams.
His accent makes lectues a bit dry and difficult to follow. Tests are similar to concepts on practice exams but more difficult so be able to elaborate on the concepts learned in class. Allows a cheat sheet for all tests which is extremely helpful. Easy to get a B in the class because of his generous curve.
Really great professor. Highly recommend him for STA13. As long as you complete all of the homework, make good cheat sheets, and actually attend lectures/discussions, you should do well in the class. Practice tests are helpful, but way too easy compared to the actual exams so don't simply depend on those. May the curve be ever in your favor.
I took AP stat in high school and passed, so I didn't need to take this course but I did. So for me this class was really easy. There is optional HW, but I didn't do any of it. You'll do fine in the class as long as you go to section and make good cheat sheets on the tests!!
I did really bad on the two midterm, However, I pass the class! Thanks for the amazing curve. you must have a very good cheat sheet because I did good on the final because of the cheat sheet I made. Do the homework and make sure you understand how to use the formula.
There is no reason NOT to get an A in this class except not putting in effort. To get an A, print out his lectures and fill them in as he lectures, understand/do all of the homework assignments, and make good cheat sheets w all relevant formulas and concepts for the midterms & finals. Discussion is totally optional unless you're confused. Easy A
Difficult to understand sometimes, and tends to go off on tangents. That said, if you print the notes from his website beforehand and pay attention in class, you'll do fine. The test curves are very fair, and he lets you bring notes to the tests.
Hard class. Make sure to go to class, Azari's lectures helpful. Homework is 10%. Go to discussion, helpful with homework.
Awful professor and terrible textbook. Every stats class that I've taken at UC Davis was useful and understandable up until this one. I've never felt so lost in lecture, he expects you to know more than you actually do. However the curve was HUGE so I ended up getting A's on the exams with it.
This class wasn't required for my major. The content is broad and the professor doesn't explain the rational behind concepts the time. He has excellent examples that mirror test questions. The course itself is like drinking from water hose. He is not clear what he wants you to study. He just says Chapters 5 - 10 and tests on only one chapter...
This class can be both easy and hard. His tests are very similar to sample midterms he posts but the problems are a bit harder and doesn't demonstrate the harder types in class. I never did the homework and got an 85 on both midterms but I did study two days before the test. He gives you plenty of cheat sheets to use on the test.
Azari has an accent that is hard to understand at times. He's not a great lecturer but his note sheets (you fill in during class) are pretty self-explanatory so you can essentially teach yourself. Tests are fair and VERY similar to the sample ones he provides. Plus he allows cheat sheets which make tests very easy. Study and you'll easily pass.
I have had this professor about 4 times now and have had stat classes taught by maybe half of the other stat professors. Out of all of them he is the most fair in grading. I would not say his class is easy but he is the most fair. He tells you what to study and gives nice practice exams. Overall I would say he is the best stat prof in davis.
He was very good at what he taught although, his accent took a while to get use to. I definitely would have failed if he didn't let us use notes on the tests.
This class is only difficult if you dont do HW even the one that is not due, u must do ALL the HW. His accent is hard to understand but he is a nice guy. He lets us use notes on tests. If we didnt get notes then everyone would FAIL if we had to know every single formula. Easy class if you put in the effort especially in reading all of the chapters.
I barely studied and never did homework (which is optional), and still managed to get a C. His lectures were well organized and clear with lots of examples. If you skim the text, his notes, and practice exams, exams should be fairly easy. Do well on the first midterm (the easiest).
Group project was the only annoying part of class. Overall easy if you do homework and take time to write good cheat sheets for the class (8 pages allowed for final). I can't really hear what he says in class but he is a sweet guy who wants you to do well. Notes are clear, self explanatory. Discussion not mandatory. Calculator makes life easier.
Do the homework, understand the notes. PRACTICE. 2 exams and a midterm. only have enough time to go through the problems once during exams. if you mess up points are harshly deducted. get to use cheat sheets though, which are life savers.
I just finished a quarter with Azari. He is a nice man and a good lecturer, but he has a bad habit of designing his tests to be taken in the full time-frame, if not longer, than the time he gives you to take the test. I didn't finish 15% of my final. Yes, I studied thoroughly and paid attention to detail but still couldn't finish in time. PRACTICE
Dr. Azari is not the best lecturer because his lectures are boring and his voice is not clear enough. However, he is pretty organized. Anyway, he is better than other teachers in sta department in davis.
I took his lecture 130B. It was difficult, but his lecture is very organized and test is based on practice exam and homework, you can good grade if you participate classes and do homework studiously.
Azari is hands down my favorite professor at Davis. Sweet guy, clear lectures, feels the subject matter should be accessible and application-focused.
For a non stats major class, professor Azari made things pretty difficult. His accent is a little hard to understand and the homeworks are very challenging. Make sure you do all of them though cause the tests will get you. Ive always been good at math but I found some of this material hard. Make sure you master STA13 concepts before enrolling.
I recommend him for anyone who needs to take STA100. He is super nice, caring, and helpful. I went to him several times for OH. Exams are very similar to practice exams, and you get notes. MT11 page of notes, MT22 pages... There are projects, a paper, that you can work in groups or alone and he will look over them before class. Check HW w friends
Lecture notes were useful since he only tests on material that he covered. He says the exams are going to be simple but it's actually not. The exams are tough but it's fair since he gives a generous curve.
Awful teacher. Isn't clear in lecture or when giving assignments. Group assignment instructions were very vague. His notes are awful and he does not post lectures online to review. Homework is hard, graded and never reviewed for correction. Makes lots of mistakes in lecture and makes this class more confusing than it needs to be. Avoid if possible
Much homework. Also he doesn't give enough explanations in class for students, and they have hard time on doing homework. During the lecture, he just introduce an idea and do example problems for each. That's all. However the real problem is that speed of lecture is so fast. There are too many materials without delicate explanations.
he's nice; just not the most engaging lecturer out there. He speaks very softly (even with a microphone) so it's sometimes hard to understand what he says. He does not podcast or post notes online so you sort of have to go to lecture. However we were allowed notes during tests so that was very convenient (this might make it an easy A class for some
I loved Azari. He is such a nice man who definitely wants you to succeed and like stats. His class is really easy because he allows for "cheat sheets" for the midterm and final and his class notes are exactly what you need to know. It's a good idea to read the textbook especially if you have a hard time understanding him or need more practice.
Never take him. This class is very hard because of him. i am sure its very easy but he will make sure to make it hard for you by not having anything that relates to hw or practice midterm to be asked on the exam
He doesn't use Canvas, so I wasn't sure of my grade until midway through taking the final, when he passed out slips of paper with our assignment totals. His lecture is boring and confusing, especially at 8 am, and the homework assignments always took me forever to complete. The only thing that saved my grade was that we got notes for the tests.
He was a great professor. His class and lectures were always well organized. Grade consists of homework, 2 group projects(easy), 2 midterms and a final. Tests weren't hard because he allows cheat sheets and he explains everything. He doesn't post grades, but you always got scores back really quickly. Put in the work and this class is easy.
A wonderful stats prof. Three tests, bi-weekly HW, and two projects. Tests can have multiple cheat sheets which make them easy to study for. Unfortunately, the sample tests are quite different from actual tests so study his in class examples. Also, do the homework, it is pretty helpful! The grading can definitely be tough at some times so beware.
