Professor Azra is very accommodating to students and she is a very genuine person. The only thing I have problem with her is her lecture style. I find it hard to grasp the topics because she goes through slides a bit too fast and there's a decent amount of information per slide. Review the chapter readings/lecture slides in order to do well.
(Spring 2020 Zoom quarter): Overall, not a great lecturer, but she's really sweet and is clearly doing her best, plus English isn't her first language so there's a communication barrier. SUPER accommodating though, including giving back exam points. Rely on the book a lot. Tests are somewhat challenging but not too bad.
If you are considering taking her class online, do it. Shes very sweet but lectures are hard to follow- English is her second language so she does read off the slides. There are a bunch of multiple choice exams that are pretty straightforward and open note. Final is optional, lowest exam are dropped- its pretty hard to do poorly in this class
Lectures are fast-paced and there are quite a few MC exams, but Professor Jahanitabesh is super caring and accommodating. Going to her office hours for clarification was super helpful given the pace of her lectures and the amount of material covered each class. She genuinely cares about her students, but the course is challenging
6 midterms (40 MC questions) and an optional final, drop a lowest score. Tests are 90% of your final grade and the other 10% is coglab homework. She always hope to help you but its really hard to follow her class.
The lectures for this course are all prerecorded from another professor with a live Zoom discussion. She's very passionate about the course material and answers any questions graciously. She also offers extra credit for attending all the discussions. You're graded by a wide variety of assignments so if you keep up with everything its manageable.
Professor Jahanitabesh is a sweet and kind person but extremely confusing. There are many assignments that are not very clear on how to access them or what to do. Her lectures are not very interesting and the fact that English is not her first language is making it hard to understand her sometimes. She is very disorganized.
Professor Jahanitabesh is very knowledgeable and kind. There's a lot of assignments but they're not difficult. Pretty easy A.
As a person, Professor Jahanitabesh is very sweet - she was willing to adjust the course when students voted on issues. As an instructor, she can be a bit hard to understand in lecture since English isn't her native language. 2 MT and cumulative final on lectures and book, weekly CogLabs and quizzes on pre-recorded lectures from another professor
Shes super sweet and does her best to help her students out, but not organized at all and with the heavy amount of information and files its hard to find anything. Syllabus wasnt under the syllabus tab in canvas but rather a ton of into files in Home. Going through canvas to find things is a nightmare and everything is crammed together.
Cons: long fast lectures, lots of busy work outside of class Pros: willing to stop during lectures to answer questions, will not make you feel stupid for not understanding something. the busy work is easy and serves as a buffer for the exams (which were not too bad for me, but for a lot of other students those exams kicked butt so buffer is good)
She is awesome. So kind and Knowledgeable.
knowledgeable, kind, and caring professor. Her lectures can be a little difficult to follow but she makes sure to go through the material and answer all questions thoroughly. I loved how her notes were organized in such a clear and comprehensive way which made it really easy to study for the exams.
Jahanitabesh's class was great. Her live lectures are not extremely captivating, but she cares a lot about her students. There's a decent amount of homework for the course-- around 2 labs per week, plus prerecorded lectures from another professor with a corresponding quiz (about 2 per wk). The midterms were mostly based off the book. Good overall.
Professor Jahanitabesh cares for her students and wants them to succeed. Her class is really organized, which makes getting through the quarter easier since you can plan/work ahead. Her slides can be wordy at times. The weekly labs and quizzes are easy points. Take the time to do the study guides as they will be really helpful for the exams.
Lectures are heavy, would recommend attending office hours as the TA really helped break down the content. This class consisted of two midterms, one final, and ZAPS (which costs money unless you complete it all before the free trial). Professor is understanding, dont be afraid to ask for help & offer suggestions!
Professor Jahanitabesh is a good professor overall. Her class (the session I atteneded) was very test heavy but the homework gives boosts to your grade (seriously you get points as long as you do it). The tests focus on lectures but they can be very detailed. She provides extra help outside the classes and truely cares about students' feedback.
We have outside lectures to watch each week and were quizzed on them in addition to ZAP activities and textbook readings. Her lectures are lengthy and she was sometimes hard to understand. Her exam Questions are worded oddly and sometimes a bit confusing. Did better when I watched lectures from home.
She's okay, just average. She reads from slides a lot. Exam phrased very weird, she's a bilingual, English is her second language. Be aware of self learning most of the stuff. Exams don't worth too much, plus weekly quizzes, a short reflection make up all your grades. Lecture kinda boring, but overall not too bad, take her if other prof are bad.
Lectures were really wordy. Test were so confusing and hard for me. It was impossible for me to get higher than a B- on every midterm. 3 midterms, 1 Final lowest one gets dropped. Weekly quizzes and 1 easy paper. Prof. Jahanitabesh is very sweet and cares for her students, but it is hard to understand what she says sometimes. Overall hard class.
I really liked the content of this class. It's pretty straightforward, but I do wish that the professor was able to explain it a little more in depth. She is hard to understand sometimes, but you get the gist. Lots of busy work, but it honestly helped me transition to taking the tests. Easy A if you do all the work and study guides.
She's a nice professor! All the lectures were recorded in case people got sick. There are quite a few online assignments, but it's easy points. Make sure to do them! She's hard to understand sometimes, but public speaking is hard as is without English being your second language. Exams were a little tough. Showing up at 8 AM was harder though tbh
She is one of the most caring professors at davis. Tests were super easy. Lectures were boring sometimes but the in-class activities made up for that. Accessible inside and outside and answers all your queries. This class was an easy A. Would take her again for sure!
Prof Jahanitabesh is so sweet and understanding. Sometimes there were technical problems for the hw and her team would try to take care of it instantly, which I really appreciate. You can tell she really cares about us. Class wise, we do have more hw than usual but they're super easy and tests are also straightforward. Would def take again!
Lots of ZAPS labs, weekly quizzes, 2 midterms, and 1 final. Drops 3 lowest quizzes. The assignments were easy as long as you keep up with the work. The hardest part for me was going to class since it was 8 am but she records everything for you. Overall an easy class, the professor was super sweet and very accommodating.
Overall this class was lecture and test-heavy. A lot of her lectures were all over the place and the questions on the exams were confusing and wordy. I would recommend going to her office hours and not missing lectures. The work consists of Inquizitive activities, 2 weekly quizzes (three lowest dropped of both), 3 midterms, and 1 final.
All quizzes and exams based on lecture. She likes to engage with the class and often walks around to for what students think. Quiz questions were easy. Exam questions were tricky so make sure you reread the questions and understand the studies and their findings. Other than that, I never attended lecture, just went over the lectures and did fine.
Post-lecture quizzes and midterm questions were actually much more difficult than expected, Ik many people in the class would agree with that. Her accent is very difficult to understand at times, and the lectures can BE VERRYYYY boring. Totally doable class but I do think it takes more effort than the average upper div psych class.
Had her for PSC 151 and PSC 100 too. A summary: - lectures are very boring, and accent is hard to understand at times (she means well tho and is nice). don't have to go, just copy slides down. - everything is lecture based. also take note of EVERY study that is mentioned in the slides. - test Q's WILL NOT MAKE SENSE. just take your best guess.
Had the option of taking the course completely online. Class is straightforward, weekly quizzes and two get dropped. Open note. Just take the notes and have the textbook open when taking the test and you'll be good. TAs were helpful and accessible. Annotated bibliography assignment w/ 4 entries. takes some time but not hard.
She is very kind and used to be a clinician so she knows what she's talking about. English isn't her first language so she sometimes isn't the most efficient communicator, but she is very accepting of interrupting her for clarification. Quizzes aren't difficult, about 4 hours of textbook reading/week, but it isn't too necessary.
She's a great professor, but her lectures are pretty boring. Tests get pretty specific but are open note, so if you use her slides you should be fine. Overall, a decent class
This was the second course I took with her and hope to take more in the future! Her lectures can be dense but she provides a lot of relevant information and goes over interesting social psychology studies. I liked how we had short quizzes to go with each lecture as this kept me engaged and on top of the material. Take good notes and stay organized!
Professor Jahanitabesh is very sweet and you can tell she's caring as well. The material itself is interesting, however lectures can be boring. Class is not difficult as long as you do the weekly quizzes (which is open notes), participation, and assignments.
Although she is difficult to access outside of class, this professor is pretty decent. All graded material was open note and open book and followed her lectures closely. Engaging and interesting lectures, but content-heavy. Really interesting course content! Dropped the lowest quiz, test, and textbook quiz.
Professor Jahanitabesh is one of the kindest and more caring professors I have had at Davis. She cares about her students, and also the subject she teaches. I have never met someone as passionate and who loves their job as much as her. We were graded on quizzes after watching online lectures, ZAPS, and 3 non-cumulative midterms.
Not sure how I pulled this grade. Tests were extremely hard despite studying, too many quizzes (mostly busywork), and prof although sweet and interested in content was not accessible outside of class. Class was very disorganized and it was hard to keep up.
I took her for SS and It was very manageable AND ENJOYABLE despite the large amount of information and little time. Her lectures include activities that demonstrate the concept and she's very responsive to questions during & after lecture. Her exams includes both of in-lecture & book information but follow the study guide to save lots of time.
Extremely sweet! Dr. Jahanitabesh is super caring and approachable, she is a gem in the department. Lots of reading, and the slides are full of information, but she will always stop and give you time to ask questions. I took PSC 100 with her during SS2, and I received an A. You only need to spend some time studying and you will be fine.
I cannot understand what she is saying. I understand that she wants to be a professor in the USA but she should not and be realistic about the fact that she needs to teach in her native language. She does not flow. I cannot explain it really. It takes me looking up everything else separately. She speaks yet it's as if she is saying nothing.
I dont understand the language. Although she is sweet and nice but doesn't teach up to the mark of students' expectations. everyone will fail.
She claims language isn't a barrier for her or for teaching but she was incapable of explaining sophisticated concepts clearly. She didn't answer questions from students clearly, she talked in circles because she didn't fully understand the questions being posed, every class. The tests were difficult and the questions were frequently ambiguous.
I have taken 3 other classes with her and have had no issues. This is one of the only psychology teachers that will challenge you with her lectures. All her classes focus on understanding the theories not just memorizing them. Although she has an accent you can understand her. It's best if you come to class and participate in class discussions.
At the beginning of the course, I watched lecture online. That did not work out! I had to bring myself to come to class. Class is graded for three exams out of 4, canvas discussions, and short practice quizzes you get full credit for. I had a lot of anxiety coming to this class, but she is a very nice teacher, just ask 4 help. Concepts are cool.
Class is based on inquizitive (3 dropped), 3 out of 4 exams, little assignments, quizzes, and full credit lecture polls. Class is interesting and the professor is really sweet and caring. However, it does bring up A LOT of studies and statistics. I am not very good at that, so I get super anxious in this class. However, it is doable, try it!
Class total grade is 3 highest out of 4 online exams (45%), lecture polls (5%), Inquisitive (25%), lecture quizzes (20%), and an extra assignment (5%). Lectures are posted online but you'll get a better grade if you go in person. Easy B but with a study group and effort, can be an easy A. Loved this class and will be taking the professor again.
Sometimes has trouble articulating her point, but she only discusses the essentials in class with very unique examples. Most of my peers had difficulty with the first exam, but with ctrl + f and taking my time I excelled. Make sure to really think about the question and wording. Weekly quizzes are very important as well, so use your unlimited time!
Great professor, very sweet and understanding. 4 exams, and one was dropped. All open book, multiple choice online. She records the lectures so you don't have to go. Inquizitive for hw, pretty easy, dropped 3. Lecture quizzes for each lecture, dropped 3. Lectures were interesting and informative. Would recommend!
Professor is sweet, thoughtful, and very well organized. Class was laid out from the beginning and was very clear on expectations and deadlines. She listens to her students' needs and adjusts accordingly. She steadily builds up course material in a comprehensive way in the topics so they're very easy to follow, but can have some tricky questions.
Super kind and nice, definitely would take again. I took her 154 too and it was great experience.
Didn't attend a single class nor watch lectures. 4 weekly participation based assignments (don't need lectures). A weekly quiz (command f lecture slides), supposedly cumulative each time but majority on each new week so open old slides too! Four writing assignments where you develop hypothesis on one topic and chance with new evidence, pretty fun
I love this professor. I have had her for two of my classes and I will continue taking her classes if I have the opportunity. She is the cutest! She always makes sure you are being heard, especially if you are answering/asking a question in class! She's awesome!
Very interesting and easy class. There are weekly quizzes (no midterms or final) that make up 40% of the final grade along with participation and a few easy writing assignments. Would highly recommend this class.
Great professor! Participation quizzes (15%), practice quizzes (28%), weekly quizzes (40%), and annotated bib (17%). Class was super interesting and recorded. All quizzes are online and everything is due on Monday. She is very kind and easy to approach. I think any of her classes are good and easy classes. Learned a lot and wasn't stressful.
She is a nice person, but she does not answer our questions very clearly, and it seems like she herself does not comprehend all the materials from her lectures. Getting a good grade in her class is relatively easy, but her explanations of the knowledge are sometimes vague.
YOU NEED TO TAKE HER COURSE! Amazing Professor! I truly enjoyed her class, and she was probably the most kind-hearted and understanding professor I have ever had. She made me feel like I could achieve any goal I had. I wish her the best!
I'm glad I took this course with Professor Jahanitabesh. You'll do well if you attend lecture, I never had to make any notes for the class because her slides are detailed and the important parts are literally in red. Classes are very research based & can get boring if you are not interested in the material. overall 10/10
Professor Jahanitabesh made the class easy to follow. The weekly work was well planned out and easy to do. Overall a great professor!
Loved having this professor! She cares a lot for her students and respects their time (offered both in person and asynchronous). Clear grading and rubrics are straight forward. Would absolutely take again.
super sweet but okay as a professor. class is structured as online/hybrid which is nice (can watch recordings and get full participation). read the chapter & look over the lecture slides and you'll be fine. weekly chapters have lecture quiz, participation quiz, and inquizitive each w/ four exams (open note, one dropped), one paper (super easy).
Very lecture heavy. Weekly inquisitive and quiz, textbook reading, participation polls, a midterm and final. Very assignment heavy too. The professor was very kind and wanted us to succeed though.
Professor Jahanitabesh was an awesome professor. She was kind, understanding, and very approachable and she always smiled during her lectures. There might appear to be a lot of homework, but in reality, it is not that much. Our class has open-note exams so it was not super hard. The exams and materials were easy to follow.
The class was great overall! There are some extra credit options available, and the material was well put together. Very VERY organized on canvas which I appreciated. It might seem homework-heavy, but you have a week to complete each assignment, so it's not bad. I would definitely take it again!
One of the best professors I have had at Davis. Her lectures are interesting and I have learned so much from her. I like the format of the class and I like the program we use to complete homework assignments. She is very caring and educated in social psychology. I like how she goes into depth with materials and includes research studies
I found this class extremely boring. most of it was based off studies and you had to know every specific detail on each one and the book cause they will be on the quizzes which are always worded tricky and you're limited on time, so they're difficult. She seems kind and knowledgable, but not good at making lectures interesting or understandable.
I ended up completing POL/PSC 012Y with Professor Jahanitabesh, and she was astounding! Always happily answering questions, and providing clarification during lecture sessions. Mandatory weekly lab sections, with weekly homework assignments based on textbook readings and workbook activities. Multiple choice midterm and final assessment.
Wonderful person and lecturer. Always available after class to answer questions about quizzes or general psychology topics. Four exams are given, with the lowest one being dropped; this can be the final; all are taken over Canvas. Available online during these as well to answer confusing questions. Willing to regrade if you talk to her. 10/10.
Course is formatted in a way where you can complete it asynchronously, which was nice! Lecture quizzes and exams were straight forward, pay attention to lectures and you'll get a great grade. Dr. Jahanitabesh is extremely kind and cares a lot about her students. I would recommend this course!
Not an online class but you can do everything online. All lectures recorded No midterms or final, weekly quizzes every week (culminating) quiz questions from lecture and textbook. 4 annotated bibliography assignments, pretty simple and clear criteria extra credit was given for completing class evaluation
She is absolutely wonderful, very insightful, respectful, workload is more than manageable, I will definitely try to take her again!
She was really awesome in her class. She is supportive and does her best in her lectures to help with understanding the context.
Some confusing wording on exams but they are dropped. Professor really knows the material and is more than happy to discuss or clarify anything after class or in office hours. Mandatory attendance taken through Top Hat but you can get a few dropped.
You can tell she's there to help and really cares about her students. Really enjoyed the class!
She is a sweet person, but the lectures are brain rot. She says "actually" over 250 times per lecture. She doesn't explain concepts or studies well at all. Wording on exams is bad. I am usually a straight-A student and I struggle to understand a lot in this class. Avoid if you can.
Professor Jahanitabesh is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. She wants everyone to succeed in her class. Her lectures are great as well! The only thing I'd warn about this class is that attendance matters if you want to get credit for participation. Other than that, keep up the weekly quizzes and assignments and you'll do great!
This is my first quarter at Davis as a transfer and all I can say is that she is the perfect welcoming for me. She is very passionate about teaching, and you can tell she is highly knowledgeable. Very sweet and caring, and encourages us to reach out for help. Would definitely take her class again!
I have taken her 152 and 154 class in the same quarter. The only bad thing I could really say is the lecture could be boring. The is an average amount of homework. She is very kind and knowledgeable. Attendance is mandatory through tophat.
She's definitely passionate about teaching, and she's very nice about questions or concerns. There's no final but you will have bibliography assignment that lasts all class long, just make sure to do well in those because the whole thing is 17% of the grade which may not be that much but doing bad in one part of it will make a difference.
Long lectures but great and caring professor. No homework or midterms but we have a project that lasts the whole quarter requiring us to look at researches which was fun. Had weekly quizzes online and attendance was on Canvas, mandatory but a small part of the grade. 100% would take again.
Very little homework aside from weekly quizzes. There was an ongoing annotated bibliography assignment with 4 submissions which was helpful for tangible Psychological research (on topic a of your choosing). Lectures run a little long, but she is clearly very passionate and knowledgable
An absolute sweetheart! Took her for PSC 100 and 154. She knew what she was talking about, incredibly accommodating, and took feedback incredibly well. Only complaint is that her classes are painfully easy, I was almost bored to tears. Overall great class!
Very nice professor. Her lectures are good and a lot of it is straight from the textbook. She was incredibly sweet and always tried to be understanding of situations. No Midterm or final, just weekly quizzes and a Annotated Bibliography assignment that you work on throughout the quarter. Grading criteria can be difficult to understand sometimes.
Very sweet, and is very transparent with her class. Her lectures are well-explained, if a bit slow-paced at times. Clearly enjoys the field of psychology. Would take again!
She is a nice professor, but she never answers her emails, and her lectures are boring.
I believe she really cares and I hate to leave this review, but heres the rundown: -The tests were poorly constructed. (Incomplete thoughts, misspelled words, lacking key information, etc) -Grading scale was confusing in real time -hard to contact -covers 2 quarters of work in 1 quarter -no textbook to refer to. Slides were insufficient
I took her PSC 154 class Fall of 2023 and I loved it so I decided to retake her. But after this class, I won't ever take her courses. She took forever to grade certain assignments and also never answered emails. The exam wording was confusing but had an optional assignment that was used to replace a missed exam.
I've taken quite a few upper div psych courses and this one has to have been the worst. She had poorly organized slides that contained regular typos, and the exams looked like they were written in 30 minutes. Exam questions were sometimes material we hadn't learned yet, and she changed the extra credit project's worth after the submission date...
Professor Jahanitabesh is really sweet and she cares an awful lot about teaching. Which makes me sad to say, the lectures for PSC 154 were uninteresting and hard to engage with. The course is graded upon timed weekly quizzes, four annotated bibliography assignments, and attendance. The class overall, didn't feel ambitious enough or too involved.
Professor Jahanitabesh is a very eloquent and gentle speaker. Attendance is taken via Top Hat, but her lectures are always worth attending regardless. As long as you pay attention to her lecture slides, you will do fine on the exams. Her office hours are hosted via zoom for this class, so make sure to get there early if you do not want to wait!
I don't think the reviews from this quarter are fair, this was a extremely easy credit class. The quizzes can be a bit confusing but like everything was online and she allows open note so take advantage. This class consists of taking lecture/textbook notes, practice quizzes (completion only), weekly quizzes (graded) and annotated bibliography .
The class was not particularly engaging and lectures as well as exams were focused heavily on studies and less in-depth on subject material. However, Professor Jahanitabesh was very kind and helpful and clearly cares about what she teaches. Weekly exams and no final, with bibliography assignments that are not hard if you follow the rubric.
4 non-cumulative exams, some of which had bizarre wording on. Lecture heavy. Attendance was taken through Top Hat. Prof Jahanitabesh clearly cares, but lectures at times felt boring and dense. She did her best to make it as interesting as possible. Course organization was great!
She is extremely sweet, caring and is the kindest professor I've had at Davis. She's actually the nicest professor I've ever met.
She is so sweet but she always makes the wording on everything super confusing. Especially on quizzes. I really wanted to like her but it felt like she was doing too much to confuse students. I feel like I was just trying to understand the information and not actually learning anything. This is one of the first classes that I've really struggled in
Good class, pretty redundant to an intro to social psych course I took in community college.
Lectures were so so boring and get very repetitive as the course went on. No complaints about the professor, she seems sweet and is well experienced in psychology, lectures just put me to sleep. Graded mainly on online, non proctored exams, online homework that you can keep doing until you get 100%. Lecture can be useful. Overall not bad class/prof
She is very kind and cares about the students, lecture slides include a lot of studies. It can be a lot of information, but make sure to follow along because she will say things during lectures that are not in the slides or reading but may be on exams. Exams are okay, the wording on them can be confusing sometimes.
Lacks compassion for a psychology professor and refused to provide an extension during a Canvas outage that was outside of students control. Not approachable, expects students to do assignments ahead of due date. Attendance mandatory, weekly quizzes (2 a week), & homework for this class was time consuming. Midterm during finals week but online.
She is very sweet and this class was not hard, the lowest exam score is dropped, & lecture attendance is worth extra credit. The only reason I wouldn't take her again is because her voice is a bit monotone, & her accent makes it hard to understand some things, so lectures are tedious. Overall good material & passionate professor & easy A class tho
2nd time taking her and she is a sweet professor but I would not take her again. I made it the whole quarter without going to lectures and simply reading the textbook and reviewing content myself. They gave her a sucky lecture hall which didn't help. She often struggled to make it through all the lecture slides that she prepared even when I went.
The class itself is easy. Four exams and a final, all online and open note and one gets dropped. Online quizzes for each lecture (4-5 questions). She words some questions weird, just read them carefully. Extra credit is offered through attendance and SONA participation. Lectures are just boring.
Easy class
Super sweet professor and a great teacher. Honestly the class was almost too easy but a very good overview of psychology and will build you a strong foundation for other classes. cheatsheet allowed as well.
LOVE HER. She offered a ton of extra credits, so her curve is really heavy. and her lecture is not mendatory, but 100% will help if you take notes and pay attention. she is also one of the nicest and the most accessible professor in UCD with a absoulutely heart of gold and generous grading. will take her class anytime anywhere all over again.
Professor Jahanitabesh is a great professor! Attendance is not mandatory, and the tests were somewhat easy with a little trickery in between. She is caring and nice, you have to review the slides often to keep up with the material. There is Sona EC, and both her 151/152 courses are similar and could be done. I respect her consistency in teaching.
POL 12Y, Worst class I have ever taken in Davis. Felt as if you are taking 3 classes in one. Online videos weekly that don't relate to the midterm or final, a BORING two hour lecture each week that has nothing to do with lab, and I had the WORST TA ever for lab. Both Professor and TA were lost and the class was structured for you to lose points.
I enjoyed Prof. Jahanitabesh! I felt she was a very caring professor and very prepared for every lecture we had. She used a textbook that you definitely had to use to do well on the InQuizative assignments, but it wasn't hard to comprehend or read. She explains concepts well in lecture and really has an interest in the field. The TA was helpful too
Took during summer session. Very easy class, 3 midterms online, 1 online final, one exam dropped. Attendance is mandatory and we had lecture quizzes that were quite tough. Professor was sweet. Insane amount of homework that took super long to do. Overall not a tough class and a very easy A. Recommend.
Sweet but there's a lot of trick questions on the exams.
Easy A. I will take ANY course from this kind, fun, knowledgeable professor with a very lenient grading. extra credits of 3 are offered through attendence (and it's not mendatory). Very accessible, constantly making sure her students understand the materials in class. The three lowest exams are taken off.
Honestly, this class is a very easy A. Graded on 9 online exams (the lowest 3 are dropped), lectures are not mandatory but are extra credit. The professor is definitely passionate about this field, but the lectures are pretty dry, and she ran over time a lot answering questions. Never showed up to lecture and got an A.
