You will do good if you concentrate on his lecture, because his lecture is very clear. He always gives the review questions before exams which helps a lot. Try not to miss any classes and you will do just fine!!!
Shihabi is a nice teacher, but that will not help you get a good grade in his class. He is vague, writes fast on the board; does not allow enough time during quizes. Basically you will need to learn it all by yourself. do not take his class, you will be waisting your time, anyway...
worst math teacher I have ever taken, doesn't like to be asked questions, goes fast, will NOT go over homework. Assumes you know more than you do. Gets frustrated really easily, if he makes a mistake on board and you point it out, he gets mad. Take another teacher it at all possible.
he should allow take home quizes so that the student can try harder at getting a passing grade
Good Prof! Reaaaaallyyy helpful. Very Patient. gives reviews on exams
BEST PROF!. He is very helpful. He Makes everything clear and gives examples to everything that will be on the exam. If you have any questions he is always willing to help. Take good Notes and do your homework! I took this class on weekends thinking it was going to be hell, but time flies by.
Perhaps he is not the most personable, but if you ask him for help he is always willing. Go to class, do the group work (it's the QUIZ!), turn in all your homework and work out the exam reviews. I got a B, you can too.
I thought Dr. Shihabi was really great. Okay, so he is not the most congenial guy, but that does not get in the way of being a great math teacher. He wants everyone to understand the problems and he gives extra credit at test time. I recommend him :)
Hi class was extremely hard. I don't like the way he taught the class. He would lecture, give us group work and turn it in the following day and not go over it. same goes with the homework. He does give extra credit...That's the only thing that is keeping me afloat..
Good teacher. He really does a great job of explaining math clearly. I really enjoyed his class. He has four test and drops one of them so if you bomb one test your grade will not suffer and that helped keep me motivated.
This professor comes to class and plunges into the lecture without giving any instruction how to do things. He automatically assumes that you know all the material. (Which is kind of funny seeing that the college is paying him to teach that subject) He is often very soft spoken and you need to strain your ears to hear.
Warning do not take this professor if you hate homework, and classwork. He will start the class work with 10 problems, and by class 6 you will need to finish 40 problems in class. Then you are so worried about finishing the class work, that you will not paying attention to the lecture finally to bomb your test. Take someone else the work is insane!
He is a good math professor, he has never come in late and had good attendance.I have learned the material very well in this corse because he explained clearly and thoroughly. If you really want to learn rather than just pass the class i recommended that you take him. Do you hw every day and do the gw you'll be able to do his quiz and tests.
He is a good teacher and care about students' quality. You will do good, if you do homework, groupwork, and review. His exams are easy, just like the review test.
He is a good teacher if u need help he is there to explain there is a lot of test but he explains it so well that the test is not hard
Mr. Shibabi is a great teacher. He makes the concepts very easy to understand. You must come to lecture though because sometimes he teaches you tricks not in the book. Always do the homework because questions from the homework will show up on the tests. Tests and quizes can be difficult but not impossible and he always gives extra credit on them!
does not answer email
Very nice, very funny man. Mr Shihabi seems very knowledgeable in math and also seems willing to work with students. I took his class on a Saturday, so it was very laid back... so much so that almost the entire class had dropped half-way through the semester. If I could I would take his class again.
Took his C++/Program class. I already knew C++, but when he taught me the other programs I caught on very fast. He is a very patient teacher and is always punctual. Nice guy. His tests are easy, mainly based on what you've done on homework or on the labs. But make sure you understand how to write the programs!
The worst professor I've taken. I had Shihabi for calculus 1, recieved A's on almost all my quizzes, worth 20% of the oversall grade, I completed all the homework which are uncollected and fudged my tests. The midterms were impossible to pass. I dont reccommend this professor.
Pretty good professor. Has an accent but is very helpful. He will stop at any time to answer even the simplest questions. Quiz and test questions come from the homework. If you pay attention, do the work and study, you will pass, no doubt about it.
He is very helpful but if you are not a good test taker, I definitely would NOT RECOMMEND him simply because his exams are worth 45% of your grade. I took a hybrid class that allowed us to take the quizzes three times with giving us the best grade of the 3. Hw is the same as far as the questions go. GOOD CLASS I enjoy problem solving.
He is a great professor. All quiz and tests are from homework. If you do homework, you will get A in his class. A+++++ professor.
Doesnt trick u. Lectures whats necessary, answers all questions. Tests, quizzes come from assignments & HW. Knowing C++ will really help alot, otherwise you'll have steep mountain in the begining. BTW I knew C++ b4 class which made this class very simple and allowed me to focus on the application aspect of programming.
At the beginning of our class there was 43 students; at the end about 18. Attend his lectures, do the DLA's where you have trouble, do the hw, visit him in his office hours and you will pass with an A or B. He's a really nice guy who won't cut slack but gives credit where its earned. Awesome professor would recommend to anyone who's emu-studious.
I recommend not taking the hybrid class. Not really there for you and expected homework online but he doesn't recommend doing the planner homework even though it is part of your grade.
This professor is just teaching for the money, he doesnt care about his students he asked me to drop the course only 3 are passing out of 25 students.
the tests are impossible to pass especially with his super bad teaching skills.
worst math teacher I have ever taken, doesn't like to be asked questions, goes fast, will NOT go over homework. Assumes you know more than you do. Gets frustrated really easily, if he makes a mistake on board and you point it out, he gets mad. Take another teacher it at all possible.
I felt this teacher was a nice person but he didn't go over homework, never made sure we understood the work, too much informat, some of the exam problems we never saw in class before, teaches at other facility and has all students on same level, covers content only no real time for the student no homework review, no good student learning outcome
This class was taken in the computer lab using a program called aleks. 3 instructor and a few tutors are there to help but you work at your own pace. He was one of the instructors there and the days they had lectures I went to him. Straight forward does not do a whole lot of explaining which was what I liked but if I did not get it he would help.
Great teacher and very knowledgable in what he does. I thought he was very helpful and genuinely wants to see you succeed. If you take a hybrid class it may be challenging for you if your not fan of using the computer constantly. there are opportunities to get makeup points for corrections on your test. I enjoyed his class a lot.
You'll learn from him; He's got a good mind... I personally enjoyed taking him
To say that this teacher is not passionate about this subject he is teaching is an understatement. He drones on about subject matter that although I found relevant did not actually assist me on the test. Now figuring this out after the first test I tried applying what he taught with book readings and practice still to little avail. Youtube saved me
Took his Math 110 class online, and loved it. If you interact with him, and do the work you will definitely pass the class. He offers extra credit, and drops you lowest test grade, and quiz grade. Would definitely take his class again.
Assigned homework and gave schedule of tests and due dates. The learning was up to us. I dropped the class.
HORRIBLE! Pretty much need to learn ALL material on your own. All homework and classwork online are completely different from exams. When asked to give more examples and let us work things out he replies with, "We have no time".
Self tough class, teach a problem for 10 test the next class. Lots of homework not enough time to study for test. Can't ask questions he will get upset.
Took him for Stats. It was very challenging! He's a good professor but is very strict at grading. Exams are tough, but if you attend class & study your notes, you'll pass. You need to work for your grade!! If you need tutoring, GO! He didn't have office hours for us. If you're looking for an easy A, his class is not for you.
I definitely do not recommend taking his class. He gives A LOT of online homework so make sure to stay ahead. He is horrible at explaining during his lectures and therefore the work ends up being very confusing. He does not offer sufficient extra credit. His final exam is cumulative so review everything weekly.
Electric Circuits is not easy. I took this course with professor Shihabi before I transferred to UCSD, and he really prepared me for the circuits course I have to take here. He would answer all of my questions, was always around during office hours, and gave me extra problems to do. Extra credit helped a ton too. I was probably at his OH everyday.
Just make sure you pay attention and take notes. Go to every class and you'll be fine. His lectures are pretty easy and not that long either. Pretty standard, easy class.
He is a great professor with a lot of knowledge. he would be good for someone who already is good at math and keep up with his pace. if you are taking this class as a requirement then you might have a hard time. a little difficult to follow.
This professor prepares you for engineering courses for university, which is why he is tough grader. Makes you work for your grade, has amazing lectures, makes sure you understand material. ASK QUESTIONS! Available during office hours, don't even think about emailing him. Extremely polite and professional he wants his students to succeed.
great professor! great notes and easy to follow! recommend you to never miss a class because he does not go over the same lecture the following day! so attendance is important , homework wise he does not give alot ! we do take a quiz every other day. and classwork that needs to be turned in by the end of class! this is helpful for test.
If it weren't for professor Shihabi I'd still suffer in Math. Gets to the point, answers your questions, knows what hes doing, gives quizzes every Thursday (for your own good, helps prepare for test), homework is due on test day (to not fall behind do the hw right after class, helps prepare for quiz)
This professor teaches great, sticks to the point. I like the fact that he gave us a schedule of what each class consists of. For my TuesThurs he gave classwork on Tues then quiz and/or exams on Thurs, DLA's and hw are due before each exam. If you study your notes and actually do your online hw you will pass. He's a very hard grader.
Prof Shihabi isn't very clear in his lessons at times. He also moves on very quickly. As a class, we told him to please go over a certain section and for a clearer execution of a problem but he seemed unhappy to do so. Overall, he does not care if you pass or not. He's very nice though.
Professor Shihabi is a terrible professor. If you struggle in Math I highly recommend not taking his class. He provides no practice test or reviews. He has heavy homework & does not know how to teach the criteria. Many students were lost in this class and could not catch up. He speeds through lectures & never goes over anything! Terrible choice.
Very very unclear. Good man, not the best professor. If you fall behind at any point--any point--in the class, you're better off dropping it and retaking it later with a different teacher. if you miss 2 sessions, or ever have a D, he will drop you from the class. All in all, it's a challenging class, but if you're a VERY fast learner, take him.
He has no passion, my class is dead, we watch him do examples and expect us to understand instantly while assigning class work and making us complete and turn them in within the day the subject was issued. Just trust me don't choose this teacher, during a pandemic he makes his student pay more money using pearson rather than just using canvas.
A nice professor and seemed to really enjoy teaching EE considering he normally does mathematics. Tests could be a little hard but he'd do a lot to engage the class, like having students volunteer to do problems on the board (before the class was transitioned to online). Since going online, he still taught well but it was ofc more one way.
This class is SELF-TAUGHT. He teaches way too quickly without really explaining what he's doing unless you ask. He does NOT offer extra credit. Since COVID-19, this was an online course and he still made exam's where we had to print them out, take the test ON WEBCAM, and scan them back to him. This was a lot of wasted ink and paper, inconvenient.
He's a wonderful teacher, who takes the time to answer questions clearly & kindly. When explaining a subject he breaks it down and makes it easy to understand. Statistics is a hard subject, but he does a great job making it reasonably understandable. You have to do your homework, and classwork to understand the tests which have the same questions.
The class is very straight to the point, all there is is homework then four tests. The class I took met on Saturdays for zoom tests . He does have somewhat of a heavy accent so I didnt watch his videos, I ended up watching the professor who is the head of the math departments videos. Her name is Jami Emigh very easy & helped me pass his class
If you struggle with mathematics, do not take this professor!! Often times, Dr. Shihabi will solve multiple problems and will not explain in detail how he is solved them. He does not give partial credit for answers on the exams and assigns a lot of homework problems. Took this class as a summer course, expect homework, 2 exams and a final.
Professor is engaged and responds promptly to messages. He is very open to class feedback. Homework and participation matter very much, but the overwhelming majority of the grade is dependent upon exam performance. There is no extra credit throughout the semester so poor performance on exam really impacts your grade. Overall, very nice and caring.
Math is not my strongest subject, and althought I didn't get an A in the class, I didn't hate this class over the summer. He did his best to teach us in the short summer semester. His exams are a little tough, not a lot of hw, his exams are proctored. If you want to pass, do the work & make sure you attend lecture, don't slack off.
He tells his expectations and he is capable of teaching the material. However, he is heavy on testing.I took his class over the winter. Would not recommend. Only take in a normal semester. Always do his homework and classwork. It saved me from failing the class. He also has plenty of lectures that you can review. Show up to class it's extra credit.
This course is SELF TAUGHT. His lectures are fast-paced, doesn't go over the basics so u should know the material beforehand. He's a tough grader, won't give u pts if u don't circle your answer, won't explain why u got things wrong unless u ask. 2 exams 1 final, lowest exam gets dropped, hw & classwork easy pts. He will help but u need to seek him!
Very straightfoward but test heavy, homework heavy, and lecture heavy.
Exp from winter class) Lectures: -relatively organized -moved fast Exams/Grading: -exams worth 80% of the overall grade -3 chapters covered weekly -no curve, lowest doesn't get dropped -proctored, closed note, no formula sheet allowed (except for on final) -no practice tests/study guides -hw 10%, 80-100 probs to be completed weekly -classwork 10%
Took the class in spring. Rundown: each month you have 3 assignments on different chapters and an exam on those chapters, he replies fast to email, you to purchase a book for assignments, exams are to be taken on Zoom and you have to show your workplace as he watches, extra credit points for exams. He has study guides=same questions on tests.
4 hr lecture, takes roll, proctors exams & harsh grader. Lots of hw & classwork w/no guide. Don't bother if you're not confident in math. He won't make it easier for you since he's the bare bones minimum. You will need a tutor or means of practicing harder if you want to pass, unless you have an affinity for math. Save time, choose someone else.
I got off to a rocky start earning a low "C" on the first test. However, by the second exam, I had a handle on the material and the professor's expectations going on to earn an "A" in the class with my math skills being mediocre at best. My advice: don't let the proctored exams psych you out. Develop a strategy going in and you'll be fine.
I took him asynchronous during spring. His workload is clean-cut: 3 tedious homework assignments and an exam per MONTH. For the exams, we had to go on Zoom and show our workspace and take the exam that way. His study guides are the EXACT questions on the exam, very helpful. Some extra credit opportunities. He replies to emails quickly.
Professor Shihabi loves over-assigning homework and classwork while not giving very good instruction in the class environment. The lack of instruction over relying only on giving examples was a huge hinderance for students in his class. There was simply very little explanation and a lot of "Watch me draw a circle."
Very tough grader, doesn't respond to emails, and you are not confident in math he is not the person to take.
He is a great very tough grader, doesn't respond to emails. He over-assigning homework and classwork for 10%of points. Most of the grade is exam. He lack in instruction. There was simply very little explanation how the quiz or exam goes. Remember he doesn't like when you dont circle answers. Don't even try his class. Waste of time.

The professor was not the best at explaining at all what to do during problems and if were to look down and write the problem he would already be about half way done with the problem so that would cause me to lag behind a ton, so if you're looking for a struggle in school work this is your class.
He makes an already difficult subject harder than it has to be. He doesn't really lecture. It's more like watching someone solve a sudoku puzzle except every few minutes he asks if everyone understands. He skips steps and does mental math without writing it down. Does the bare minimum of teaching. If you take him, you HAVE to ask questions.
A great man but difficult professor. Grades strictly and exams either make or break your grade. Not a great explainer and to grasp the material you must ask questions. Relies on you to teach yourself the material but will help you if asked. Skip this class if you struggle with statistics in any capacity.
The class grade consists mostly of test and the homework, attendance, and class work are worth little to nothing when it comes to your final grade. Avoid taking this class unless you are prepared to teach yourself the material or already understand the material.
Gives you everything you need to pass the class with an A. Most of the material he lectures on can seem long but most of the time it will be on the quizzes. It was easy to understand, and as long as you practice the class work and do the homework after class ends or as you are studying, you will pass. Exams are worth 50% of your grade.
I previously failed this class with another professor and I was very nervous about retaking the class. Professor Shihabi is very thorough in his lectures which are through Zoom and he makes sure everyone gets the concept before moving on. He does take a while to grade tests/quizzes because they are all handwritten. Pay attention and you'll do good.
DO NOT TAKE!!, exams are almost 50% and essentially dictate your grade homework and quizzes are on paper and nothing is online besides the textbook. Exams are based off of his notes and the exams itself are extremely difficult and if you don't do well on them you have to spend the whole semester trying to save your grade, avoid him at all costs
This guy is a very slow and unattentive grader. I sat with a friend looked at our graded test and we both the same answer and only one of us got it right.
DO NOT RECCOMEND, very strict with his exams grading, floods you with so much homework his pre-calc course was twice as hard as my current calc 1.. don't take him in calc related classes. Lied about the extra credit and that B is a stain that's weighing down my GPA so much right now so if you like your 4.0 AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS TRUST ME.
This professor lacks passion and isn't a good instructor.
Really nice Professor just a lot of unnecessary "homework" from the book.
I took his MATH 60 class for winter 2024 from Mon-Fri for 5 weeks. He explained the lectures clearly, shared examples step by step and if there was some trigonometry or algebra that you forgot, he'll go over it with you again. Overall, a really great professor as long as you attend every lecture. If you're a visual learner like I am, he's perfect.
I took him for a winter session and I'm glad I did. I tend to be good at math but with him calculus was very easy and intuitive. His entire class is dedicated to lecture and going over problems related to the chapter. He's a very tough grader so make sure everything you have down is correctly written.
I had him for stats and I dropped him, he's a very slow speaker and just reads off the board doesn't give any good examples and you learn by group work it wasn't the best for my personal learning just a heads up
Incredibly inspirational and passionate, highly recommend him!
