any students about to take ms. demmons should be warned!! she is NOT straight forward with her answers, very UNhelpful in lab, and has an idea on what a student's grade should be BEFORE she given grades the labs, tests, logbooks, and etc.
Very interesting... has a great technique of leaving the classroom and you think...hey where did she go... during labs! I did learn alot!
You either like her or you don't. I think she's a good teacher. The class pretty easy too, but then again now that I'm in Dr. Kim's Chem 1A class my opinion of the difficulity level is skewed.
shes intimidating at first but once you get know her, shes not as bad. she'll shoot you down if you dont understand anything in lecture. Her monotone voice goes up and down when she talks inlecture. make sure you dont have her for lab take someone else. If you get an 79.9 its still a C, not B-.
great teacher. she really knows her stuff and goes over it until you get it. available for questions if you have them. kind of boring lecture but she's nice and teaches well so that's great.
Wow, what can I say. This has been the time of my life; what an experience! Her teaching skill are so refined that a 2 year old can learn Organic Chemistry. She bring out the students creative instinct out of every students making them try their best, soaking up knowledge like anhydrous powder.
Ms. Demmons inspired me to pursue chemistry. I took her class many years ago and loved it! Lectures are very clear and very well detailed. She's not the nicest instructor on campus, but Delta isn't paying her to be nice!! If she likes you she likes you, if she doesn't she doesn't.
I already new chem so I helped some other people in the class and showed them another way to do it and this lady STILL hates me! I aced absolutelty everything so i skipped the last two labs (I wanted to go wakeboarding) and she gave me a B and STILL gives me death looks whenever she sees me around.
she is imtimidating, she would not answer any qestion in lab....she would give you a straight NO answer, very hard to ask her question...but than she go over her work over and over so its an easy A for me.
At first scary but just got to get used to her and she is very helpful as long as you try, and dont make her mad. Very good at explaining how to do problems!
She is intimidating at first! Also when you ask her questions she treats you like you are dumb and like you should already know the answer. She is a good teacher and she teaches at a fast pace.
Oh my gosh! She is sooooo....oh whats the word...wierd. She is so rude and treats you like your dumb. If I knew Chemistry I wouldn't be in her class trying to learn it!!!!
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. Even though I got an A in her course, I can't recommended this course to anyone. In fact I am taking the rest of my chemistry courses at another college. Her class was the worst academic experience I have ever had.
Mrs. Demmons is a great instructor. If you have questions she is very willing to answer them during her office hours or via email. Chemistry is not an easy subject, but can be understood with the right intructor. I would definitely take her again.
She's not the prettiest teacher ever, but her class was one of the easiest. Since I needed Chemisrty to get into nursing... that's a good thing!
Very great teacher. she actually teaches you and not fool around in class
She is rude. If she likes you, she will go out of her way to help you. But if you are like most people she will probably hate you, that means she will go out of her way to destroy you.
Pay attention during lectures and be prepared to write fast. Ranges between being a great instructor to one that is downright scary. Shows some favoritism, but it doesn't ever get to serious. Becareful which questions you ask since she will insult students for questions she feels "we should know". You'll learn, but you will also be frustrated.
Ms. Demmons class is not easy, since the chemistry itself is very hard. I get lost a lot of time in her class, but you just have to read your materials and pay attention to the teacher in order to understand. Even though Ms. Demmons is hard and the class is hard too, but I do like her teaching though.
Ms. Demmons is a great teacher. Her class is somewhat easy since the last 2 tests & quizzes are practically the same as the practice tests & quizzes she hands out the days before.Only the numbers were changed.(1st 2 tests are multiple choices.) Attend all the lectures and do all the practice problems. 'Better to email quest. She'll always respond.
Such a GREAT TEACHER! She's so nice and helpful. Pay attention in class, go see her during her office hrs, ask questions you don't understand after labs. She does look mean, but if you get to know her, shes really nice. Well organized and great notes! I so recommend taking her!
if u do the practice problems and go to lecture u'll ace her test
Dr.Demmons is an awesome teacher!! She lectures extremely well and really knows O-Chem like the back of her hand. She is very willing to help you if you have questions. This class is tough, so you will have to push yourself hard, but it will be one of the best experiences that you have ever had becuase you'll learn a lot!
She's rough. Make sure you take 3A first. She goes off of that for everything
She is a great teacher, but lectures very fast. No need to buy the book all notes are made in a binder for you.
Ms. Demmons is an overall good instructor. Her lectures are monotone as hell, but at least she makes it easy to pasts the quizzes and exams because they're just like the examples she passes out in class and has in her blue book.
She is very hard to talk to.. her class is fast paced lots of math and lots of studying
this instructor maybe a little fast for me because this is my first time taking chemistry however, she gives you practices lecture quizs and practice exams to prepare you. She is very good in her own way, you just have to get use to it. Try to open up for her, do not be afraid of her, ask her for anything that you need help on, she will help you.
Shes really nice and funny! Don't listen to the rumors... All I know is that she is good with her 3B class not sure about her 3A class.
Prof. Demmons is a wonderful teacher. She is very good at explaining her lectures. She teaches steps by steps and she takes time to go over assignments and tests. She is a little fast but everything she teaches in lecture class, she takes her time to help explain thoroughly in lab class again so her student get a better understanding.
Demmons was a good teacher. She does go a little fast but she explains herself very well. She goes step by step in all her lectures. Don't be shy to raise your hand. She answers all. To her no question is a dumb question. She will also give out practice exams and quizzes and also goes over them. There are no surprises. She is a great professor.
Demmons is easy you just need to pay attention in lab and lecture and take good notes her quizzes are just like her practices ones that she hands out... you dont really need the textbook and if you have a question ask her and dont be scared
I think that she mispilled her last name, it should be DEMONS. She is the foulest professor ever. She is not approachable, and if you want to feel that you are the stupidest person ever, then this class is the one! Organic chemistry is all memorization, and it is the hardest class that you can encounter. She is ready to shoot you with humiliation
She is a great teacher, the material is hard to learn, but she does a good job teaching and explaining. You won't be able to tell if she likes you or not, but there are no surprises, and the practice exams and quizzes are exactly like the actuals. Try to do really well on your first exam--it sets the precedence for the rest of the class!
The material is hard indeed. Mrs. Demmons knows how to teach chemistry. But I think Mrs. Demmons missed her calling....she should have been a prison guard. No personality, likes to make you feel stupid.
DO NOT TAKE HER.....I COULD SAY MORE...ALOT MORE...JUST DON'T TAKE HER!
Horrible 4 summer. Not easy to approach 4 questions. From her lectures I learned things that had nothing to do with Chemistry like physics, champagne bubbles, museums in London....and her fav line "as we go through." Wasted money on the textbook which wasn't used, and totally disorganized even with the folder that she made for the class.
I missed one day due to illness. Was not allowed to turn in work due that day, take a quiz given that day, or due an inclass assignment. My grade slipped to a B/B+ when I had an A. Ran into her end of the next semester she was shocked to learn I earned an A in Chem1A with Julius Hastings. Way to punish me for the only day I missed all semster.
I actually like her. She isn't as bad as everyone says she is. She teaches chemistry really good, and I liked how she never gave out homework. She did have a habit of leaving the classroom during labs. Don't really need your textbook either.
If you want an easy instructor who is going to hand you a grade & listen to your sniffling & piddly excuses~dont take Demmons!Go to every class, work hard,be a mature adult, then you will do fine.Ask ??'s as soon as you feel lost, she hates to go back too far. She'll help, just not in a cuddly teddy bear way.SHE DOES NOT TOLERATE STUPIDITY OR EXCUSES!!!
Admits that O. Chem is a "weed out class" and does all she can to fail you. The book sucks, she's not helpful answering questions, egotistical, insults her students, lectures are confusing and dry, and she will walk out of lab not to return for hours. If you're transferring to a 4 yr, wait to take this class there instead. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Demmons is a great instructor. She isn't mean like everyone else says she is. She is strict and to the point, but is fair. She may seem intimidating at first, but she's pretty nice. In fact, I plan to have her for the rest of my chem classes. Highly recommend for those who are willing to study hard for the A!!
Although she was hard...she was better at making everyone understand the material during lecture...but don't get on her bad side...it's true she is kind mean...besides that if you want to learn and understand Chemistry well then take her class...but it is HARD!!!!!!!!!!!
Mrs. Demmons is an awesome teacher!!! She is soooo smart when it comes to Chemistry it's amazing!! She hates stupid people stupid people make her want to retire so don't be stupid she is a great teacher!!
She was one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is extremely helpful and she relates everything to our everyday life. Attendance like any other class, does make a difference in your grade. She's intimdating at first but she will chill out throughout the semester. She even cracks jokes. Good class if you plan to become a nurse!!
she is so hard. no used taking her. i wonder why shes a instructer when she doesnt know how to teach and be helpful.
Most of her exams are essay type or fill in the blanks. She often gives a multiple choice.
dont take her
Very good instructor! To get an A is very obtainable. Must attend evey class and take notes and study and practice problem sets, worksheets, etc over and over. Learn material. One of the best Instructors at delta!
i have taken her for summer 08 yes she is hard but at the same time helpful. u cant take 2 clases when taking this class, remember it hard if working.im a A student and got C but i worked 40hrs a week and still passed all you need is time to study coz she almost spoonfeed you. i like the way she teach. i passed without touching my book
I loved her class.I took it n the summer 2. She explains everything, and goes over the sections with alot of practice sheets but its easy bcuz she jus got done lecturing & explaining it. Test & quizzes r directly to what she teaches. I highly recommend her. I wanted her 2 teach chem1A lol
The class is difficult throughout, it requires a lot of studying and group work. My whole week was devoted to Ochem, its hard
Took her during the summer. It was a lot of hard work, and I think I would have enjoyed the class more if I had taken it for a full term. Demmons gives plenty of examples during lecture, and also lots of practice quizzes and tests. I would recommend her. You will do well if you are sure to attend all lectures.
Very good teacher! Explains clearly and will help you if you need more clarification. Quiz and Exams are fair, she gives you lots of examples to practice from.
I dropped Ms Demmons chem 3a class. She was very fast paced with frequent quizes. If you were a few minutes late to class she acted like she didn't even want to waste her time helping you. She was very rude and a useless teacher.
Demmons really amuses me. I will always remember solute and solvent because she referenced it to alcohol, water, and bad days. She was hard, but I really did learn in that class. As long as you give it 100 percent from the beginning of the semester you should be fine and STUDY. ALSO, ALWAYS WEAR GOGGLES DURING LAB & BRING HER DIET COKE/PEPSI! :)
I dont recommend this teacher, she was too fast paced and assigned really hard midterms, and unfortunately she is the only instructor for this course.
Great Professor! The best teacher I've come across at delta. Easy and very clear in lectures. She goes over the material constantly so going to class is like extra study time. Never had to really "study" just reviewed and got an A. Also hadn't had 3A for 6 years. Can't wait for 12A :)
there is no reason not to do well in this class yes she is hard and seems mean but if you do all of the practice worksheets you will be fine there are NO SURPRISES I only wound up with a C because I missed due to personal circumstances GO TO CLASS DO THE WORKSHEETS
She talks too fast, she writes too fast. You can not even take a deep breath that you miss what she says. Quizes every week. If you sleep with your book open every night instead of a pillow, sure you get an A. She gives time quizes expecting to be done very quick like the students are mobile computers. Don't bother asking her anything.
Useless and discouraging teacher. Doesn't care about the students. Work very hard, i mean work by yourself because her teaching and nothing is the same. Timed quizzes every week. Don't give any details to solve the equations. Don't recommend. She talks, writes and erases tooo fast.
Shes alright when it comes to lectures. You can understand where shes going but shes fast paced. At times she isnt very helpful and will leave you on your own clueless self. Shes can be evil! She gives out study guides and quizes that arent too bad but her midterms are ridiculously HARD compared to the study guides. Just study hard and dont lag!
This was by far the gardest class I have ever taken. Demmons is really good at giving off that im so much smarted than you vibe and that makes her non approachable. Most of her tests were pretty easy on the grading scale but labs were pretty tough. The best thing I can recomend is to take Dr. Kim for lab and her for lectures. Overall you it was ok.
Mrs. Demmons is a GREAT professor -- she definitely knows her chemistry. Slackers are not tolerated, but you don't really have to study all that much to pass. Just review all your lecture notes and pay attention in lab. Her tests & quizzes are almost identical to the review tests & quizzes she gives you to study. And remember: don't skip class!!!!!
Rough on the edges, sweet on the inside. Take her comments with a grain of salt. She will try to rip you apart but if you take her lightly she will grow on you and you will learn a whole hell of a lot!
Demmons is a great teacher! Her lectures are very helpful and you will definitely learn the materials needed by the end of the semester. Looks intimidating but she really isn't, all it really takes is for you to go up and ask her something. Really cares about her students, has a vast knowledge on the topic that she teaches. always willing to help.
Honestly this class was pretty easy! If you go to class everyday and do the problem sets before the test you should be fine. She even gives you most of the notes in this binder she gives you. LOVE MS. DEMMONS, she's an awesome teacher!!
She's the bomb!!!!!! RECOMMENDED! She spoon feed you about everything in class either lab or lecture, she's very specific in discussing topics and very helpful to students. Professor I give an A++++++++++!! =)
Wow! Dr. Demmons is an amazing teacher. She breaks it down step by step. I was nervous to sign up for her class but am I glad I did. She is a straight forward kind of teacher. Extremely knowledgeable. I loved the blue book that we use in her class, she spelled out everything. If you want to learn, this is the class for you. Dr. Demmons ROCKS!!!
Straightforward teacher. All expectations clearly explained on 1st day of class. Best math review I have ever had. Lots of practice exams w/answers provided.
great teacher. You will learn many things. prepare to work for it
Harder then chem12B. dont slack. Great class
Explains information thouroughly. Very good teaching skills.
Could have taught this class a lot better if she didn't have so many issues. Be prepared for a tough time with this lady. However, she does give out great lec. notes, but then again she erases the board before you can copy so be prepared to takes notes really fast.
Very helpful I took her for 3A and 3B and she is among the most organized teachers at delta. All the things you need to know are in the lecture notes and even in order. She is though but fair but if you do all the work and listen to the lecture you'll be fine. Best Chem Prof. at delta that's for sure.
Make sure you have her for both Lab & Lecture, she grades all work. I had a Dr Brand for lab and it was tough, they were not on the same page. She had another class that she taught both lecture and lab and she was very partial to that class, they had much higher scores than our class overall.
Good teacher, backed hard. this class was easy, you just have to put time into studying the material
EASY A. She teaches very well and supplements everything with multiple handouts. You buy the lecture notes and then she provides more examples. Demonstrates all labs first. Nice lady, chem is her life. Cracks chem jokes lol. Best chem prof guaranteed, I feel like I actually learned something and have a 99%! Try to get her for both lecture and lab.
everybody talks about how hard Demmons is but i can honestly say she is one of the best teachers i have ever encountered at delta. i learned so much in her class. UR THE BEST DEMMONS
She is a good teacher, very fast paced, and can be a evil at times. This is not an easy class, do all the handouts she gives you and the ones in your blue binder. Had close to a D a the beggining of the semester and brought it up to a B by studying like crazy and always ask her to help me when I was unsure. Don't be afraid to ask her for help.
Very easy class. Many many many worksheets are given throughout the duration of the course, which mirror upcoming tests and quizzes. Never a surprise on tests and quizzes. Very approachable if you have questions about the material.
She is a really good teacher, always willing to help and gives you a bunch of handouts a when you buy the blue book use it. That book is very helpful and will always be a reflection of her test, would recommend her for anyone looking for a great chemistry teacher.
The best thing about this class was the grading system. she grades on a curve which means 62 or up=a C. She's also very helpful. Other than that, she sucks at lectures. went SUPER fast and i found it hard to keep up. Self taught myself some of the material. Students who found this class easy prob. had some chem background or had no other class.
KNOWS HER STUFF. Lectures are fast paced. Just tell her to slow down and she'll help you out. I had her for 3A too; she's the best chem teacher ever! No surprises ever. Gives you previously used quizzes to study off. *Buy her lecture notes!* They're word for word what's on the exams! She's also cute and funny in she thinks she's funny kinda way :)
always attend lectures and labs if you want a decent grade in the class! Good on grading but not so forgiving on the labs so if the percent error is high.. I'd redo it.
Teacher expects perfect students dont ask questions unless you have to. Fast paced lectures. Doesnt use text all based on lectures. Do all hw and study! Not the easiest teacher but you will do fine if you are good at at least algebra II
So the question is. do you want to learn If you are looking for a easy cheesy class this is not for you.I had that type of teacher for my 3A class, in the end, that teacher did me a great diservice in preparing me for my 3B class. This is a teacher who teaches, I highly recommend you take her for 3A and 3B. It took blood, sweat and tears! Worth it!
Her class is very hard and intense! If you have no life, no job, & a light class schedule then take her. She is good at teaching chemistry, but she expect independent students who will not ask her questions. Take her if you can focus all your time solely for her class. Because you won't be able to focus or have time for any other class!!!!!!!
Professor Demmons is an excellent teacher she may have a bad reputation but she's the type of teacher that focuses on getting more out of the class itself, not a easy-A teacher. I find that it helps a LOT if you read beforehand and ask some questions. People whine about how she doesnt like questions but she lets you ask questions freely!!
Not as bad as you've heard she is. Goes over everything you need, just don't ask questions on things she just answered. Make sure you pick a good lab partner and make friends. Just do your labs and study a little and you'll be fine.
She will expect you to know everything from chem 1a, and you will use a majority of the prior knowledge. Be WELL prepared for each lab or else you will utterly fail. Work hard and dont even fall behind, must do all the worksheets they help alot. Never expect her to be nice, she will tear you apart :(
DROP HER CLASS! I am shocked that Delta allows her to teach! She needs to be dropped as a teacher. It's true those who can not do teach. I think she lost all her passion for what she does when she was forced to teach for whatever reason? Maybe she couldn't find a job because she has no people skills, whatever the reason, she needs to get out!
Absolutely the toughest professor in SJDC and I absolutely LOVE IT! This is what community college education should be like. If all the instructors were as tough as her we would have the best students here but thats not the case. I got an A in this class and you must study every night roughly about 10 hours for 7 days in the week. DONT MISS LECTURE
Summer 12- Subject is not easy and is very fast paced. She is supper fast on lectures! I suggest you just WRITE everything. Sometimes,I didn't have time to process as she lectured, but I would review all notes after class. Study a lot! I got a D on 1st exam but an A on the final, overall class grade-B. Study hard, practice math, and you will do well
BEST PROFESSOR IN DELTA. TOUGHEST AND YOU WILL LEARN!!!! Had her for the whole organic series, she will rip you apart in 12A during 1/2 of semester so she can screen out the weak and scare you. TOUGHT TOUGH TOUGH. But when all the weak have been taken out she becomes the BEST, she will talk to you, she is not the "Devil" that others say, she awsom
I enjoyed being in her class. She seemed a little mean at first, but she's very nice & helpful. Her class was tough! However, she offers a lot of resources to prepare you for the exams. And she's always quick to answer emails. Overall, she was a great professor!
Professor Demmons is extremely supportive and scholarly. She has alkynes of chemistry knowledge and takes pride in her profession. I existed in the spring13 class, which is the greatest class.
Mrs. Demmons is a fantastic teacher. She is a little intimidating at first, but she is very helpful and clear about what she wants. She provides a large amount of example and exercises to help you through the entire course. I had zero interest in Chem before I took her class, it is now one of my favorite subjects.
She is very Intimidating at first, but eventually you start to learn how things work in her class. Yes, It's true she isn't the easiest person to speak too, but she's here to teach chemistry NOT to be your friend! Chemistry is not the easiest subject, so don't expect to pass if you are not productive in her class! Study hard and bring her sodas!!!!
Took this class over Summer, very hard, but she taught it well! Keep studying and you'll be sure to pass. She's not easy, but at least you learn.
At first I didn't understand anything until I really, really gave it effort. I would go to her office hours at 6 AM and she helped me for hours til I understood. She really is great for Chem 3A. She is straight forward but nowhere near mean. Test/quiz are just like hw. She shows you each and every step on the hw and will explain clearly.
Be prepared to work hard. Study ahead of time even during the summer break. She will be very scary at the beginning of the semester. Do not take this class unless you are very good at chemistry. If you got a 'C' in Chem 1A you will fail this class. Her lectures are extremely fast paced so never miss them. Always read the lab handout when you get it
Very straightforward, and get's straight to the point of things. Helps those who study, and doesn't pull tricks on tests/quizzes. Gives packets that cover test material, and goes over every experiment and detail. She is a real teacher, she's not there to be your friend, she's there to get you prepared for harder classes. An awesome instructor.
Attend lectures, study hard for the lecture quizzes and tests. The lab section is only a small portion of your grade. Be prepared to work hard.
She gives you a packet for every section. All your materials are given to you, you just need to use it and apply it to class. Make sure to go to lecture everyday! and record the lectures. Look over the practice quizzes/exams. Make sure you keep up with material as well. As long as you're on track, you will pass :) Great teacher!
Professor Demmons was a wonderful professor! The workbook is pretty much all you'd need to succeed in this class! She doesn't really like it when we ask her questions but it usually isn't a problem because she's really clear on what she wants. I'd definitely recommend professor Demmons! :)
Very organized and thorough. A very experienced and knowledgeable professor. Dr. Demmons is clear and will set you on the right track for future chemistry classes.
Her lectures are very clear & straight forward. Gives more than enough study material. Textbook isn't necessary I barely used it. The supplemental material book helps a lot! The lab book for $100 isn't worth it try to rent & make copies. She's really strict but tries to help the best she can. Study hard & you'll pass easily. I highly recommend her!
Professor Demmons is a wonderful professor. She lays down everything you need for her exams. Everything is neatly sorted for you in packets and that's the material you need to know for the upcoming exam. Class won't be hard as long as you do the material she gives you. She will give you a great foundation for chemistry. Don't hesitate to take her.
Don't take this class if you don't want to have a b of a teacher.
People get intimated by her when asking questions. If you have a legitimate question she will answer it. She is actually very helpful when it comes down to it. You just have to be willing to ask away. Her class is tough but if you work for it you will feel accomplished. Also she curves final grades. (85% A) Workbook is THE BIBLE, READ IT!!!
I took her class in the last year, and it was easy to get A. However, Chem is science, so you should understand "how does it work?"
She was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Whenever I would ask for help, she would brush me off and make me feel stupid. There is definitely favoritism in her classroom. She doesn't make herself approachable. She is just a rude lady.
Professor Demmons is a sweet older lady. She may look like she is mean but she genuinely cares about her students and doesn't have time for students who aren't serious about why they are in college. Lectures are crystal clear and vital do not skip. Pay attention in lab she may be mean if you don't pay attention to instructions in lab. DON'T BE LATE
She's just OK. But she couldn't teach our lab section so she left us in the hands of an older man (can't recall his name) & all he talked about was his life so I barely learned chem. I had to drop b/c I didn't want a C. Unnecessary quizzes & unorganized. Now I take Reedy and I have an A-! I'm really good at chem, I did terrible in Demmons class.
She is well experienced and wise. Although, she is not quite approachable, so be an independent learner.
If you go to lecture and TRY then you'll get an A. She's sassy but she's understanding and very clear with what she expects. Just try.
She wants people to drop who aren't serious so she's tough at first. She's rude and unapproachable but after the final drop date she learns everyone's name and is nicer. You HAVE to study for her tests or won't pass. Not too much homework just hard tests. GO TO SI! Nathan is great and will explain how to do anything you don't understand
Demmons is porobably one of the most approachable teachers I have ever had. When you ask a question she will either brush it off or make fun of you for asking it. It was so bad that at the end I just choose to stay quite and don't ask questions. If you need extra help don't take her. She is rude and disrespectful!
She has a schedule that is completely inaccurate so you never know what you are doing in class. Two giant textbooks that you have to bring every day, I have back problems now because my backpack weighs over 35 lbs. She is very mean when you ask for help and makes you feel stupid. Least approachable and overall worst teacher I have ever had.
Took her for 3B back then too and wish she was teaching 1A. Can be sassy which is why some students don't like her but she chills out. Lectures are clear. Took the class one summer and (barely) got an A by having a good small study group, studying right after class by completing all the optional worksheets and making your own studyguides for exams.
Very well organized class, her supplemental packet lays out most of the course for you. Tests difficult but not impossible, just put the work in and study. Usually throws in a few extra credit points on tests. As said in other reviews, if you show her you care, once you get into the semester she'll chill out and be more approachable. Go to SI.
Lectures are clear and she will repeat or go over anything someone will speak up and ask her to. If you haven't thought about what you are asking she can be a little snarky when you approach her, but take it in stride. She will help you. Tests are weighted to count for 80% of grade, lab work counts for 20% of grade. Interesting lab experiments!
Loved this professor. As long as you do your work and study she will like you. Labs and homework only worth 15% of your grade, whereas tests account for 85%. Attending lectures is eesiential and you MUST study for tests. There are a total of 4 exams, each of which she gives you enough review for. Do the reviews and homework and it will be an easy A
Do not take this course in Summer because she gives you a lot of homework and you need to study for quizzes, lecture exams, and big exams. You have to keep up with what she teaching, if you don't. I recommend to go to TUTORING ASAP!!!! She teaches fast, expects you to understand the material like if it was common sense, which isn't.
Great, clear, understandable lectures. Tests and quizzes are VERY similar to study guides. DON'T be late, DON'T skip class, DON'T slack off on labs or homework. Don't need textbook, DO need lab manual and blue book. Worksheets are very good preparation for tests. Very understanding prof - scary at first, but friendly 1 on 1. Not easy A, but doable.
professor Demmons is the best professor in the chemistry department. she still remembers my name since I took chem3a in 2016 summer. essay A class. tons of HW, but prepare you well for future Chem class.
Good teaching methods. You just have to put in the work to receive a good grade. Don't slack off at any point. Every topic taught is used in the next topic learned. I really like the layout of her lecture book. It's very specific, thought out, and helpful.
Took this class over summer, easy A. Just pay attention during lecture, she's pretty clear. The notes are done for you in a blue book, but study for the tests
This is my first time ever taking chemistry. I knew I would struggle in the beginning learning new material. Demmons expected students to already know the material. She would comment "you guys should already know this, it should just be review". People would be afraid to ask questions, it's a class you basically need to self teach yourself.
This is the type of class where lectures build on top of one another, so I HIGHLY encourage you to start studying as soon as the semester begins! A lot of people realize this fact a little too late into the semester & end up dropping. I thought I wouldn't do well in her class, but her lectures are easy to follow & there's lots of practice available
HORRIBLE. First off, almost $150 for books, never answers questions, INTIMIDATES AND INSULTS STUDENTS INTELLIGENCE, always angry, not helpful nor caring, moves fast, will not clarify. Take another class, take another professor, especially if you're not good with math or word problems. FOCUS ON THE LECTURE EXAMS/QUIZZES, lab is only 20% of grade
Exams VERY important, gives practice quizzes and worksheets similar to exams.2 exams multiple choice 2 problem solving. understanding material for exam important, lab only 20% of grade. C is minimum 64%, B is 78%. get ahead by memorizing cations/anions,conversion factors(g to L,etc.),stoichiometry, balancing chem equations,EXAMS ARE CRUCIAL TO GRADE
if your looking to understand it and get help. Dont take this class with Demmons. Shes the worst. The test are very hard. She really doesnt like helping you when dont understand the material. She thinks its just common sense.
This was an incredibly tough class. Prof Demmons is very knowledgeable, but the pace of the course never lets up! If you do take her, study the practice tests and quizzes and learn the cations and anions! Buy her lab book not the textbook. She does give partial credit in answers on tests and a few extra credit qs so that helps a bit.
I got an A because I never let up, make it your goal to do EVERYTHING in her extremely clear directions in her blue book manual. She says that if you follow it you will pass, she told the truth. Study hard for the tests; dont skip lab. Lab most often takes the full 3 hours. LOT of homework, but you will succeed on the tests if you do it and learn!
The class was pretty hard but its just a matter of are you going to actually put effort into learning the material.
She expects you to KNOW the material before hand (conversions); I understand theres math involved, but her class feels more like a MATH class!! So polish up on your math skills BIG TIME, if your planning on taking her class!
Save your money and do not take this profesor. On the first day, she told the class that we are in this class for two reasons; 1) You are in this class for the prerequisite for the Nursing program. 2) You are to dumb to get into general chemistry. Then she already expects you to already know everything about chemistry. Would not recommend her.
You have to be prepared to actually pay attention to her lectures as they will help you with assignments and tests. Most of the examples that she gives are very similar to the ones that are on her tests and quizzes. Her tests are easy and straightforward, with EC included, but you do have to actually study for the 4 tests and 6 quizzes. Lab heavy.
She explains everything very clearly and step by step, you just have to pay attention in the class. Spend your time to do the homework in the blue book. It helps you to practice for the quizzes and exams. Quizzes are very easy. Exams are more challenging, but she gives you extra credit.
Very difficult teacher she races through context. Many of the things I learned in class I learned from YouTube videos. Also shes not a big fan of people asking questions kinda just scoffs at you. Wouldnt take ever again.
She is very organized and tells you exactly what to expect on exams and quizzes and even gives you practice ones to try on your own. Explains every experiment before doing it and actually cares about her students passing. She even canceled a test because she knew we weren't ready and didn't fully understand the material yet. Definitely recommend
She knows how to make things easy. There is a blue book which is awesome everything you need to know for exam is in there. Her lectures are very important, if u attend all the classes and read blue book thoroughly u can get A for sure. Just listen to what she says, u won't just pass but you would learn chemistry, great professor.
Dont take her!! She doesnt explain things clearly and expect you to know everything already. Shes a very grouchy lady. DO NOT TAKE HER PLEASE!!!! Youll regret it!
This class will only be difficult if you dont do your worksheets, problem sets, and other things she assigns. If you at least try to do the work and learn (attending each class is VERY IMPORTANT) then you will pass. She isn't difficult, just TRY!! Definitely recommend you to challenge yourself
I only had Demmons for Lecture so idk how she is during lab. But was not good at explaining topics, Writes everything on board. Doesn't answer questions during lecture. 2 exams are MC & the rest are written. Quizzes & exams are exactly like the practice ones. Get ahead by memorizing cations/anions & unit conversions. Go to SI. Good luck!!! :/
Took her for Chem 3A. Really easy if you don't skip and pay attention during lecture. Homework is easy and based off what we did in class. The only problem is that she made me feel dumb for asking questions. She does examples that are exactly like what's on the homework and tests so study the process not the problem.
Professor is good, lectures are organized, but he does write everything by hand. Test and quizzes are exactly what is on the practice quiz. TBH if you really want to pass with an A, its ALL ON YOU, You would need to study your "SS off for this class, no chem is easy unless you put in the work. I recommend going to SI tutoring. DO WORKSHEETS!!!!
Only thing I didn't really like about her was that I was scared to ask her questions b because she gets mad lol. I recommend tutoring and youtube. Not an easy A you're gonna have to work for it and not miss any class
The hardest teacher I have taken.
alright guys.... Professor Demmons is boring, however, 62% is passing as a C in the class. IF you go to tutoring, SI service, and form STUDY group, YOU WILL PASS with minimum C. if you don't do any of those, then good luck because they really do help. FYI: pick a smart partner, it helps a ton too. lol
She is repetitive and teaches with structure, so understanding her process is easy to pick up. Homework (WS & PS) and labs are always in accordance with lecture. If you follow the dates on the syllabus, it tells you everything that will be done in lab and all things that will be due. Attend lectures, LISTEN, and do all the worksheets.
A lot of her quizzes and tests are almost exactly the same as the practice quizzes and tests that she hands out. She also posts answer keys to those practice ones so you can check your work. I never went to lecture after the first month and still managed to pass. She pulled me aside and let me take extra credit SLOA's that I missed. Don't miss lab!
The class is not so difficult. Professor summarized all the information and content we need to know into a reference book. I did not need to read the text book. Also she will give a note about what is going to be in the final exam.
I had never taken a chemistry class before. Professor Demmons is a good professor if you pay attention, do your work, and study. This class is not an easy A, however it is possible to get an A. Never miss a class, do ALL the work, and watch YouTube. It can be an intense semester, but stick it out. You can learn a lot from her.
I took chem3a and was a bit worried based on the reviews on here but honestly this was one of the easiest classes i've take. The tests and quizzes are almost identical to the practice ones she assigns. There is practically no homework you need to turn in. You just need to show up to lecture and do the practice problems she provides.
She does not explain good and when she does explain she does it super-fast on the board. She is not welcoming to questions. Please don't take her class if you find math difficult. If you can't self-teach yourself don't take her class.
It's chem of course it's not going to be easy. She's not a bad professor you just genuinely have to pay attention and attend every lecture. It's an entire intro to chem in the span of four months, there will be a lot of work but if you space it out you will do great. Practice problems and exams are provided so there really isn't a reason to do bad.
Do not listen to the bad reviews, I took this class with a huge amount of workload from other classes. Professor Demmons outlines her class so that you are set up for success. . Her practice quizzes are exactly the same as the actual quizzes. For exams, she passes out several practice exams that usually have similar questions.
(Adding to my previous rating) Now, this does not mean that you will automatically pass. You must practice the practice problems, worksheets and other helpful material she hands out. Take this course and I promise you will be successful. People will complain about her, but they did not put any effort in and were extremely rude to her.
Professor Demmons sets her class up in a way where students will be successful if they put in the time and effort to do so. Exams and quizzes are exactly like the practice ones she hands out, so you know what to expect. As long as you put in the work to attend lecture, do the practice quizzes / exams, and review lecture material, you'll pass.
The professor was hard but if you understand the lectures or take notes then the class will become a little easy. I liked how she already tells you what we will do in future so you can be ready.
Don't bother buying the lab book (the $120 one) because she will often print out the pages for the labs, or if you do, be prepared to buy a big binder to hold all the pages. Buy the lecture notes though! Overall, pretty average teacher, just show up, pay attention, and do your assigned hw. Chemistry isn't an easy subject but it isn't impossible!
I cannot believe this professor has such good ratings. This professor is rude and gets upset when you do not understand something and gets mad when you asks questions. She won't even say hello to the class, she rolls her eyes if you talk to her. If you have never taken chemistry before this professor is not for you. Only great thing is the syllabus
This professor is horrible, she does not care about her students at all. She encourages her students that are struggling to just withdraw the class. She runs through the lecture as if everyone already knows chemistry and gets upset if you don't understand. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Professor Demmons sets you up for success if you put in the work. Attend lectures, do the practice problems, and use resources like unstuckstudy - it makes this challenging class manageable.
I should have dropped this class from day 1 when the professor was rude to a student who had special needs. Do not take this professor if you are not still in high school. If you have a life outside of school this professor is not for you. This professor was a nightmare. Please save yourself by taking a better professor. You have been warned.
Lots of lectures. Take notes. You have to buy her textbook, the lab book, safety glasses, and some scantrons. Make sure to study a lot. If you have a social life, kiss it goodbye. If I had not said it enough, just study. You'll pass if you study and she makes you calculate your own grade, so keep track because if you ask her she'll get tilted.
(WARNING) READ BEFORE TAKING THIS CLASS! Professor is very rude, I asked her a question about a worksheet, when doing so she rolled her eyes and scoffed at me. Her book is $150, very expensive, and she expects students to already know everything. If you struggle with math DO NOT take this class, more of a math class than chemistry.VERY HARD CLASS!!
You have to buy two textbooks, long, fast-paced lectures. Quizzes and tests almost every week. The lab is worth 20% of your grade, while the lecture is 80%. You also have to calculate your own grade, she won't tell you it. Does gives a lot of practice sheets, study hard, you'll do okay, but it is so easy to fall behind, so don't miss a class
