More worried about spelling and grammer than what you actually write about.
You will never know what he is going to test on, but fun to debate views with.
you will never get 100%, relatively easy to understand, interesting lectures!
Expectations on tests are too high. Lectures okay... Don't expect much feedback.
You will learn a great deal, but your WAG will suffer. A students MIGHT pass...
Don't start a debate. He'll shoot down your opinion mercilously
Gives excessive work, you'll never know your real grade, lectures don't flow
Understanding teacher.Need to talk to him if u have problems.
Most interesting class i've had (rel. in soc.), but very difficult, lots of work
Unclear about expectations, was absent five times (Only meets 2x a week!) Hard g
Very one-sided view of our world. Will make you feel guilty for going to Walmart
He's a commie, but he's fun to argue with.
He TINKS everyone in his class is going to be a social science major
Waaaaaaaay too much work for the grades recieved. Tricky on tests. Debating is fun. Helpful, if you put enough effort into it. Not the best but by far not the worst.
Strange, scary little man. I've had worse profs - like others, debating w/ him & class was fun. Would reccomend, but NOT highly. Homework / assignments / projects kinda too long and too tedius.
Expectations are way too high but because of this he has given second opportunities. Still too much to receive a grade that respects how much time you put into the course. Good teacher, good luck getting above a 90 ;)
Really mean, takes forever to hand back stuff, makes unreasonable requests of the students. Try to avoid.
He is very boring, making it hard to stay awake. He does not speak english well yet grades harder than anybody else on spelling and grammar. His tests are impossible and he grades them like he wants his students to fail. Doesn't believe in giving A's much
Avoid at all costs! It is impossible to get 100% on any assignments, EVERYTHING is essays, you will read a lot of long, tedious books, and you won't get a grade that reflects your effort and knowledge... Should have dropped the class on the first day.
Awesome! Very helpful, kind, and willing to work with you. He may come off hard, but go and talk to him and critize anything that needs to be criticized (NICELY) and he'll respect you. Back yourself up with evidence if you think he's wrong.
Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!!!!!! He grades you like you're a Social Science Major!!!! Judgemental and rude!!!
he's a **** ****
This guy sucks. Thinks his is the only class you're taking. Hates big corporations(why does he teach here?) and is always right. Tkae anyone but him. Even if you do the homework and bust ass he will still give you an 80 at best
I heard horror stories, but he wasn't that bad. 2 book reviews, mideterm, and a final. those are the only grades. i got an 18/20 on everything. that's a 90. likes class participation. Not too strict on attendance. Not a bad prof.
A 90+ is possible in this class if you get Rao to proof-read your reports and answers to study questions in advance. He really isn't mean if you go to see him personally. IF HE SAYS SOMETHING SEVERAL TIMES IN CLASS, WRITE IT DOWN!!
Excellent teacher, horrible grader. Discussions are thought-provoking but essay exams will come back with almost no corrections and a poor grade.
Good teacher. Two multiple choice tests from cribs he gave us, an essay midterm and final which he provides study questions for. Only assignments were two book reviews which were on short books. As long as you show up to class you'll be fine.
Rao is an energetic professor and will keep your interest. DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING MORE THAN AN 85%. He will review your papers and not tell you everything that he wants so when you get your paper back, you'll have less than 17/20. GRRRRRR
Rao is the man. You will get out of class with a smile on your face. He gives a great lecture. But buyer beware he is hard as ****
Good lecturer, but he grades pretty hard so be careful you'll think your getting a 90 and then you get an 80, just go to his office alot and make sure everything you do is exactly how he wants it
had him grade papers before handed in. after corrections, got same or worse grade. avoid him if at all possible. or else, he will avoid you. I had the hardest time meeting with him, he always cancelled. terrible prof!! stay away!!
Very interesting lecturer but hard as **** grader.. Grades like a mad English teacher.. You have to really work for a 90 in his class.
He is a jerk. Read all of my papers before handing them in and barely made corrections. Then gave me a bad grade on the paper. If he likes you, you'll do okay. But for the majority of people, watch out. He takes pride in making people fail.
Expects insane amounts of work to be done. Gives an 85% as the highest possible grade. You must agree with his views 100% if you expect to even pass the class. Makes outrageous claims like, “I am video taping you so don’t cheat.” Subscribes to an extreme liberal left view on everything! Require
Beware of this professor!!, he is a horrible grader even if you attend his office hours your chances of attaining a comfortable grade i.e 85+ will not be attainable. His lectures lead you to believe he's an intellectual genious and your just mere subjects seeking knowledge from "The greatI am. He s
Amazingly hard. Ever had the feeling that even if you were perfect and knew everything he did you'd still only barely pass? This man is more conceited than anything. At times he was describing those that had not attained critical thinking skills and you would have thought he was refering to himself.
Had him help me by looking over papers ahead of time, and ended up with an even worse grade after corrections. He is by far the worst prof I've ever had, and he tried to avoid me for meetings we scheduled. Half of class dropped, and out of rest, few passed.
Interesting lectures, not much homework but everyhting else is hard. if you arent a perfect writer you will be after this course. I spent more time for thjis class then all others put together this term and ended up with only a 90...probably highest grade in my class too
This professor's lectures are interesting and a lot of times relates lectures to personal life. I don't recommend him if you have any desire to earn an A in this class. So few grades and he grades hard. He is hard to find outside of class as well.
An American hating prof who's in love with his voice and his ideals... and will sit there and tell you that any ideas other than his are 100% wrong. Doesn't help students who seek it. Never had a *single* thing marked wrong on my papers, got a 76 in the class. You do the math. Not agreeing with his extremely left winged views shoots you down...
Awesome lecturer. Very obnoxious. You need to have balls of steel to do good. You can't get by from studying last minute. In his class, you "must" read and know a good chunk of the info a week before a test. For the Final Exam, your answers must be 750 words. Have to know 60 topics from the questions he gives you, but only 6 are on the Final.
Worst Prof, Ever... never disagree with him, he is worthless. only writing class I have ever read books and spent much time on and not recieved an A. He lies and fails many... drop before he hurts your grade too. Or, better yet- don't take him... WORST PROF EVER!!!!

Asks for your opinion and tells you you're wrong. Interesting how that works huh?
Agree with him on everything and you are sure to pass! Don't have an "I don't care attitude", b/c he knows. When writing papers, make sure to take it to him before turning it in. I did think his class was interesting, however students were doing his job for him. If you have to listen to him for 2 hours you will want to poke your eyes out.
This professor is terrible, he will seem to hate you. Meeting with him seemed to net you worse grades on papers, that he loses anyway. While some of his lectures are intriguing, they were ridiculously long and opinionated. two visitors (adult, dept heads?) fell asleep one day they came. His final is ridiculous and is 2 hours of writing.
horrible. what he says during class you must reitterate to him then and on your papers. he gets excited about words. is not friendly. lost my graded paper and even when the head of his dept told him he must regrade it and give me a grade he wouldnt. took him 8 weeks to email me back after he wrongly graded me
Rao is not a bad prof. He knows what he's trying to teach. And he's trying to modify his teaching style. I say give him a chance and give him or the head of the department feedback. Hes a little rough around the edges but is definatly making modifications as he learns.
Rao is a great professsor. Stimulates thinking, tells you exactly what's expected of you and grades fairly. Rao does NOT just hand out grades however. You have to work for them. If you put forth any effort and argue your point intelligently, then he will give you a good grade, regardless of if he agrees with you or not.
Rao is a good professor. He expects a lot from his students, which can be a good thing. You have to earn your grade, because it is not just given to you. Answer questions intellectually, proofread your papers a million times, then another million times. I think overall, he has improved!! He is trying, so give him a chance.
He is a hard grader.
Never went to class. Too boring, too early. Read the book, it's pretty much the same. Tests are brutal essays, but I did well on them. Just write all that you can think of until you can't write anymore. Was a little harsh grading papers, but he gave bonus opporunities. I would NOT take him again!
Don't waste your credit-hours with this prof. Gives new meaning to the term 'close minded', in that if he doesn't think you're open minded enough (read: agree with him completely), you *will not* get a good grade. Automatically grades low so that he can give extra points back for going to his office later and telling him how smart he is (seriously)
Religion in Society, interesting class, good lectures. BUT, he never taught us to levitate like promised!, very dissapointed.
This professor was TERRIBLE!Avoid at all costs! He is extremely closed minded, refuses to accept that his ideas could be wrong, frequently cites problems with society towards police and military figures. Frequently makes points then contradicts them in the lecture Expects students to make a 25 minute presentation every 2 weeks in addition to 3books
He is unclear about what he wants he is careless. Beware underclassmen, although his course is thought provoking if you don't give him exactly what he wants and how he wants it you'll pay dearly. Overzealous thinks SSCI is more important than Eng. would not recommend to my worst enemy
He is a great speaker, time seems fly in class. However, is very hard grader, unclear on what he expects on essays. Two exams (mid&final)4 questions all essay 900 words per question. Ridged, callous leader.
Great Material, interesting class. Very hard grader unclear of expectations on essays. Stay on top of your grade and you'll be fine, class flies.
His lectures are entertaining to attend and are extremely educational. He requires you to work very hard but if you do work hard in his class he will help you. He's probably the only liberal arts professor at Kettering that I feel I got my money's worth, and then some. He is highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn the subject.
Decent professor, assigns a ton of work, you will definitely learn a lot, but be prepared to be bombarded with loads of hateful e-mails telling you how you are doing horrible (mass e-mails that go to everyone...).
Try to get a different professor if at all possible.
Too much work!Riciulous amounts!
Sucks, by far the worst prof ever. dont take him, i repeat, dont take him, i repeat repeat dont take him
BY FAR THE WORST PROF EVER! Get out... seriously, drop his class if you want a life, otherwise you will have nothing but work everyday, read 4 books each 30 chapters in and outline them... then right a report on each, quizes, tests, mid terms, finals, projects, presentations.. GAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I woulda known! Dont take him
i hate him with a passion, all the bad things you read about him are lies... ITS WORSE!
i wish uopon a star.. THAT I COULD PUNCH THIS GUY IN THE FACE! so much work and the hardest grader of all time
I'm shocked at all the dislike for this prof. I found him very informed and it was a good class. I highly recommend him, and there wasn't too much work, though a class at 300 level should'nt be "easy". you get your moneys worth
His grading scale is ridiculous and he is an extremely tough grader. If you like reading a book and listening to the professor say the same thing with some hyperboles, then this class is for you. I did not enjoy this class because I felt it was a lot of work for nothing in return.
Very well informed and professional. The workload is intense and very demanding, and you really have to know your stuff for tests. He only collects homework "journal entries" two times and has two tests the whole term. Tests are not crib-able, as they are usually essay questions. Class requires discipline! Lazy students will fail.
Rao's lectures and homework are very demanding, especially if you're one of the lazier types. However, you learn a lot, and his grading isn't as harsh as I expected. I did hardly any of his journals, and he still gave me 14/20 on them. If you want an A, pick someone else. If you want to learn while killing yourself, go with Rao.
Professor Rao is without a doubt the funniest professor I have ever had at Kettering. An extremely knowledgeable man, Professor Rao is able to engage the class in many different topics that affect our society today. He is a moderately easy grader. The only downside is that the workload is quite high.
I've never had a better professor in my life. Although his class was slightly difficult, I don't regret a single minute of it. Best educational experience of my life.
At first, I took his class for granted until after the Mid-Term. That is when everything hit me. You to go to class and take really good notes. It will make test a lot easier. He wants to help you but only if you go to him. He will not chase you down so you can explain. Good Luck!
I have never hated a professor before, but Rao has opened my eyes to a new level of hate that I didn't even know existed. I have never seen someone who can be so demanding of your time and disrespectful of it. He assigned presentations and then changed everyone's topics without offering an extension on the due date. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Drop if you can
I absolutely, 100% do not like this professor. He preaches that his class is open discussion and claims you can voice your input, but he belittles students on a daily basis and is incredibly rude. Additionally, he stated in class that he grades differently depending on the student.- major red flag.
GO TO CLASS. Listen to him. He is very smart and knows A LOT. His exams will be based on notes and books. You will spend the entire term on Arab Uprisings. Spend hours memorizing everything in your notes and vomit it all onto the page for him. He wants regurgitation, not original thought. So repeat what he tells you and you can get an A.
Expects you to remember everything that you go over in the 2 class weekly 2 hour each classes that you have. Exams/Tests can be over anything from something you went over for 3 classes or something that you talked about 4 10 minutes. And you better hope you can write enough (What he thinks is.) You can be more detailed than someone and get lower
He was a good prof. You just had to really work for your grade. The exams were all essay questions(4-5). You basically had to regurgitate what he talked about in the lectures. If you pay attention and take good notes shouldn't be too bad. There was lots of work for this course and is the type of prof who thinks his class is the most important.
Just drop. Don't do it. He gives way too much work, expects 3,000 words for the midterm and final in 2 hours which is physically impossible, and spouts fake facts with no regard for the truth.
A lot of people don't like professor Rao because the work load is pretty heavy and at times he can be a bit much as a person. He is, however, extremely intelligent and you can learn a lot from him. If you decide to put the effort in, you will be rewarded with a good grade. If you care, he cares. Tough class, learned a lot.
Professor Rao is one of the most passionate educators that I experienced at Kettering University. I highly recommend taking him for a course related to China and India. He is a tough but fair grader. His lectures are often incredibly interesting and he occasionally gets really off topic and ends up telling some hilarious, semi-related story.
For being a sociologist, he isn't very understanding of differing viewpoints.
Dr. Rao has a very old-school approach/mindset when it comes to scholarship. This meaning, he is going to make you work for everything. That being said, Dr. Rao is one of the most understanding professors I've come across and cares about his students more than anything. I had a truly enjoyable time taking his class.
Here's the thing about Rao. He is a tough prof, but it's not hard to do well in his class. He talks very quickly, so type everything he says. For tests, read through your notes and study the stuff he repeats all the time. I've taken him twice now and got A's. If you come to class and show that you're putting in effort, you'll get an A or B easily.
Lots of work. Includes a lot of presentations and papers. As long as you try and just rewrite what he talks about in class on the exam you will do fine.
At first, he just seemed rude and harsh with the amount of work we were getting, which was 160-200 pages of reading and two 50-question quizzes a week, not to mention the 3000 word term paper for week 9. But in our last lecture he said "You pay so much to go here, I want you to get your money's worth." In the end, I respect his dedication to us.
Dr Rao is tough on his students. However, he is excellent at what he does and expects his students to be almost as good as him. There WILL BE tons of writing and tests throughout his class, but as long as you put in the effort you're fine. He might appear harsh or unapproachable but he deep down cares a lot, he wants his students to succeed.
Dr Rao might look tough from a glance, but he is one of the most caring and passionate professors in the entire university. He is exceptional, and he expects his students to be exceptional as well.
This is the only class I have ever dropped at KU. First day of class, puts people into groups and expects group 1 to have a full presentation done in less than 36 hours with zero guidelines. Unreasonable workload, acts like this is the only class you're taking. I think he forgets this is an engineering school.
Professor Rao is a nice enough guy with pretty good lectures however he gives way too much work for a college with shorter semesters. I'm almost possible he forgets that you take other classes because I spent over 90% of my time this semester on Rao's elective class instead of focusing on classes that actually matter for my major.
Multiple 20 min+ presentations, 3000 word essay... Not sure why the class is taught in a seminar-style room when he is the only person talking. If you HAVE to take his class, the way to pass is to regurgitate what he says. He doesn't want unique perspectives, he wants to hear his own words from other student's mouths.
