I took her class for Criminology. I enjoyed it so much. You HAVE to use the text book and go over power point slides- exams are based of the power point slides and text book- Exams consist of multiple chose and writing in your answer- you are expected to write the maxim amount of words the box will take.

She is a great professor! Make sure you read and you will do great in her class. The test could take on average 2 hours so be ready for that. I learned a lot in this summer course.

This online summer session class was GREAT! I never thought I would be saying this but I was very engaged. We did a virtual prison tour of 3 prisons in different states and countries. Principles of Criminal Justice(Online). She was a great professor. Very understanding. Even though I took her online class, there was set materials for every week. This made keeping up with work very easy. Assignments are clear and concise. Definitely should take this class very interesting and you will gain a lot of knowledge on material.

Content was interesting and we got to see how the principles in the class played out in real life with the required police ride-alongs and tours. But it was difficult to know exactly what was expected of us so be sure to join the GroupMe, because we mostly figured it out as a group. Dr. Muhammad is very busy and not that responsive to email.

I've taken Dr. Muhammad a few times due to Criminology minor. One of Howard's gems to take before you leave. Amazing passion for her study, however, taking this class you have to understand she is a professor because she wants to, not because she has to. At times, you will be pushed to the side. Not on purpose, but Dr. Muhammad wears many hats!

This class was very informative about the criminal justice system. I really enjoyed the field trips that we had to go on. We had to visit a courthouse, a jail (virtual or in person), and juvenile detention center, and go on a police ride-along. The midterm was a long test and the work for the class can get overwhelming if you don't keep up with it.

Dr. Muhammad is definitely a gift to Howard. This class was very engaging and fun overall. We conducted a few outside things like a police ride-along, a court visit. It was very informative. I can not wait to take future classes with Dr. Muhammad!

I respect Dr. M. She has put most of the AOJ classes online. This semester she had 4 classes online and will 4 more online this summer. She is a GOAT! With this being the first year online she gets a pass for blackboard shut outs and 48 hour responses. This online class has 75 students. Happy it was online. Very engaging. Field trips heavy!

This class isnt online which meant I could secure the bag and still be great. It was ALOT of work and if youve taken Doc before, you know shes big on community. With that said she forced us to find our way on GroupME and to really work as a team to get stuff done. She makes it so you cant cheat which challenged a lot of peeps. Great class!

This professor cares. Hard to reach at times and its easy to see why. Dont give up on emails or sliding into her DM on Insta. When you get her you will have a rock. She goes hard. Class not easy and you have to stay on top of stuff. Teaches you to be self sufficient. This class upgraded me and made me really work. No finessing through it.

This class was Principles of Criminal Justice SOCI 170-01 (online). Dr. Muhammad is extremely understanding and wants her students to pass. For this online course, we had homework assignments due every week and only two exams. However, the exams are pretty lengthy but they are not timed. You just have to complete the exam in one sitting.

I feel like a lot of students get overwhelmed by her methods, but I find them to be the most effective. To me personally, the online class was an easy A. I found that the students in the Groupme that had a hard time, either waited until the last minute to look into things? or were overly stressed and extra for hardly anything. She's my favorite!

Dr. Muhammad is really nice and flexible with grading. However, the test are extremely long and there are a lot of written assignments throughout the semester. At times it was hard getting in touch with her. Overall, it is a really chill class as long as you stay on top of your work.

Dr. Muhammad's classes are always great and thought provoking. I have taken courses with her previously in person, and taking her Principles of Criminal Justice Class Online was just as fun. Even though the course is online, you are required to complete experiential learning trips which are a great addition to the course.

I like Dr. Muhammad as a person, but I would not recommend taking this online class. We had homework assignments due every week and two very lengthy test (takes at least 5 hours to complete). Instructions for the class were vague and it is extremely hard to get in touch with her if you have questions.

Dr. Muhammad is one of the best if not the best professor I've taken at HU. She's very heartfelt with what she does and the students she teaches. However, because of her likable personality and busy schedule it's hard to get in contact with her. This professor is no joke. You will work. You will learn. You will READ. Just like you should be doing in college. Criminal Justice has a lot to learn. Its a lot of info. But she lays it out week by week. In the end your work pays off. GroupME dont take them serious. They are all talk. Mostly unconscious underclass talkative kind.

Dr. Muhammad is a very busy professor therefore it is sometimes hard to get direct feedback about grades or to ask questions. Her TA was helpful and active in the groupme to help give directions. This being an online class means you do the textbook because there are no lectures that can help you through. You must do all your work which is not hard.

Professor Muhammad's Principles of Criminal Justice class laid out clear and consistent expectations for the course. Nothing was a surprise. You have to use the textbook but it intertwines real life examples with the course material. The assignments are fair and as long as you complete them by the deadline, you should earn an A.

This was an online class and it was ALOT of work. The teacher is very hard to reach be sure to do all assignments she also gives you a chance to make up work. Prepare and you will be fine.

I hear great things about this professor and I wish I was able to take one of her in-person classes. The course load was not unreasonable, however I would not suggest taking this class if you are taking a lot of other classes. Doctor Muhammad's online class required weekly assignments which were extensive but informative. Although it was an online course I found that the assignments were In depth which made it more engaging with the material. Doctor Muhammad is also very authentic and relaxed. I would love to take her again for an in person class.

She is a great professor and very understanding. The class is mostly exams and reflections and requires you to be disciplined in order to stay on track with everything since it is online. Overall, it is not a difficult course but remember to stay on top of everything and outline and read the chapters for the exam.

Criminology Online with Dr. Muhammad was pretty easy and straightforward. All of her tests are based on the book, so if you read you will be perfectly fine. I've also taken her before for an in-person class and she's one of the coolest people i've ever met, definitely a gem at Howard.

Great professor! I have had her for an online and in person class! If I wasn't graduating I would take her class again. Test are normally online, and you get the entire day to do it. Be prepared to use 1-3 hours taking the test depends on how much you read from the textbook.

I did not know this course was going to be online until the start of the semester but it fit perfectly into my busy schedule. However, I wished there was some form of lecture video to explain the content so students could get a better understanding. Tests were very specific and took me over two hours to complete. The class was calm, as far as online classes go. I had already experienced her teaching during HUDOS and wanted to see how an online course would be similar. Not a lot of personal contact because it is a big class, but responsive to emails and questions.

Interesting class that was helpful for learning about the school to prison pipeline and social justice. Guest lecturers were engaging.

Absolutely loved this class! We touched on many topics that, while they may have been difficult to talk about, are very important to discuss. The guest speakers we had were all wonderful and gave very insightful presentations!

Loved having Dr. Muhammad. Doesn't get mad if you miss class and is really lenient with late work. Her lectures are conversation and critical thinking based but very interesting. Don't wait until the end of the semester to do the work, then it will become stressful. Pay attention in class and look for announcements and you will be fine!

I really enjoyed this class. I only had it once a week but I would have loved to have more class time. We engaged in discussions and did reflections based on readings, videos, and guest speakers. Dr. Muhammad gave us a safe space to express our thoughts and learn more about injustice.

This class was amazing. It is not hard at all, just make sure to watch the videos and read the articles she gives out and then complete the journal reflections. The content of this class was amazing, I learned so much. If you take this class you won't be disappointed. She is an amazing teacher and so genuine, 10/10 recommend.

This class was definitely a great class for people who want to learn more about the subject and are passionate about it. However, there are a lot of assignments so make sure you stay on top of it. She gives good lecture videos and works with her students a lot. She also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities if you need them.

This professor is understanding when students have issues during the semester. Just advocate for yourself. Not much was taught during class (I wish she would have taught more in class), but she will post detailed lecture videos and chapters to read from the textbook. A lot of extra credit is given and used where it is needed in your grade book.

Dr. Muhammad is a great professor who takes pride in her craft and it shows. She will not tell you everything you need to know for discussions, quizzes, exams etc. It is expected for you to read and apply the information on your own. Expect a lot of reading in this course and tedious exams.

Dr. Muhammad truly does care about her students and them doing well in her course. Her tests are extremely lengthy and take almost 48 hours to complete. She is opposed to shortening the tests. Textbook heavy and she holds class but records lectures with the actual content. Overall a good class and interesting content.

She is cool, she does enough lecturing. She talks for majority of the class but gives students the opportunity to chime in. If you do not like lecture based courses, I would not suggest taking this class. This semester was hard so she was all over the place as far as grading and assigning work. But, overall I think she is a good person to know.

I enjoyed the content of her class and she is very passionate about the work she does and her students that she teaches which definitely shows and is appreciative. This can be a life changing course if you allow it to be. It was for me. This semester I would say was unorganized but it definitely had a lot to do with the cyber attack and protest.

I took IDSD, also known as school to prison pipeline, my first semester of my freshman year at Howard University. It was not the ideal class I would have chosen but overall I learned a lot in this class and the work load is light but engaging. I would recommend taking this course if you are interested in heavy discussion topics. My final grade: A.

Included in the Social Justice Consortium, this course was interesting and provided students with great insight into the school-to-prison pipeline. The only assignments were the weekly reflections, based on either the readings or guest presentations. While I do wish we had more formal lectures on the readings, class discussions made up for it.

This is my second time taking Dr. Muhammad and I thoroughly enjoyed the course although we did not get far into the course. This course was interesting and engaging. She takes pride in her teaching and cares for her students. Overall, would def take her again ALWAYS!

School to prison pipeline was an informative class full of interesting readings. Your grade is based on weekly reflections that correspond with the lectures so attendance is mandatory.

Im graduating. Its the only reason why I wont take her class next semester I loved the wellness days and checkin for every class. This class was hard. You have to critically think. Dr. Muhammad is a critical thinker and challenges student to engage deeply with the content. If your brain is surface level stay at bay. There were 300 students in this class. Dr. Muhammad accommodated ALL students. She cares so much about students. She shares so much with students to motivate to let them know ways to be better. I am a high school student taking this course as a dual enrollment. It was soooooooo hard. I learned so much. Each week you have readings from chapter. Recorded Lectures to watch. Chat discussions on chapters with classmates online. You have to keep a check-list to stay on track. Learned soooooooooooo much! Take this class it will change you

As a high school student taking this course it was amazing. I learned a lot about the injustices of the system and importance of using humaninzing language. The syllabus is loooong but read it all. If you follow everything and keep a check list you will be fine. A lot of moving parts. Stay focused on completing assignments and you will pass

Dr. Muhammad creates an experience in each of her classes. She incorporates a lot of media and current news into the class. This keeps it fresh and fun. When I googled her, I was so surprised by how much she has changed the world. Watch her interview of Breakfast Club and her ViceHBO documentary. She is so humble but kinda famous. Love her

This class was super HARD cause due dates kept changes. This was because stress accommodations were made all semester. This was significant. No protesters failed. No one was ever shamed for keeping camera off. We voted as a class on new assignment structures when needed. Mental health was centered. Hang in there. In the end she has your back. Real!

I was in the #blackburntakeover from start to finish. I loved that Dr. Muhammad worked with each student through the entire semester. Sometimes this meant addressing as she always said the elephant in the zoom. It was a lot of tension in class bc what was going on campus. Professor Bahiyyah Muhammad is a caring and passionate professor who checks on her students in every class. Her dedication to her teachings was infectious and it made me want to engage even more. I was in one of her smaller classes so it was more intimate and we really got to talk about the topics. She shows grace and I would recommend taking her.

She was really cool and inspirational, the TA's are who controlled the grades and attendance because of how big the class is. The class is very straight forward I will say tho for a 1 credit class it was a lot of work to put into. It's also pass or fail so truly don't do the most, just do the bare minimum to pass, don't stress yourself.

I enjoyed Dr. Muhammad's class a lot. We did experimental learning, which allowed me to have hands-on experience with what we were learning about incarceration. This class can be emotionally challenging, but at the end of the course, you will know more about the prison system and gain new perspectives on life.

I took Crime and Justice: Behind the Wall this Fall 23 inside the DC Department of Corrections to learn with incarcerated students. Dr. Muhammad is amazing and provides support to get clearance and reflect on sessions throughout the class. When she talks you want to listen. Don't take this class if you can't dedicate an hour to transportation.

This class was not what I expected in its entirety. I believe that Dr. Muhammad did an amazing job at conducting the course. While our visits to the detention facility did not go as expected, Dr. Muhamad did an excellent job at reassuring students that they were in control of the situation and could come to a conclusion they were comfortable with.

Even though it was only a one credit class this was a transformational experience through our class discussions and visiting the DC Correctional Center to discuss our topics with actual inmates as well. You are required to attend the sessions at the DC Correctional Center

Amazing professor! The conversations we've had in class were incredibly eye-opening and honestly life-changing. I would strongly recommend taking one of her classes before you leave Howard. One tip: If you are taking a class that involves going into the facility make sure you account for the time it takes to go and leave (about 40 min).

She is the most passionate professor ever. She really cares about her work and her students. It's so worth taking. Just be mindful that you have to travel to the facility on the metro, and it can take about 40 minutes.

very discussion led class and less formal. do the readings for the assignments (one-page per module) they are interesting and give a lot of information. Make sure you participate when comfortable a lot of the class is sharing personal experience and opinions/knowledge on topics.

(Criminology Class) Professor Muhammad is the type of professor I'll always remember because of the advice she has given. The class syllabus was detailed but we didn't get to visit the jails in-person due to many lock downs and getting clearance to enter the jail too late. We did have to read a lot but the questions for the exams were reasonable.

A lot of Professors try to excuse poor teaching by saying that you get out of the class what you put in, but this Professor means it. Do the work and the reading, and you will do amazing in the class, and she will respect your efforts.

As long as you read the textbook, the discussions go great. The same goes for her tests, too. She always comes to class with something very insightful about the subject.
