GREAT professor. He's knows his material & is great at explaining it. He's very helpful in preparing you for midterms & finals. He makes it easy to get a good grade with some extra credit points. I would recommend this teacher for everyone. Besides being a great professor he's a younger teacher who makes the course fun, as fun as finance can be.
Took him last semester. Good professor who gives u a ton of opportunities. Fairly easy compared 2 Pagani! The course material is difficult no doubt. Just study hard & take advantage of whatever opportunities he gives u... u'll need it in the end especially because the final challenges you and as it should because it is the fundamentals of finance.
This was my first business class last sem. and the teacher was extremely helpful, he always asked if we have any questions over and over to make sure we get it equations b/c it will be on the tests and if U study ur notes good, the test is a piece of cake b/c he gives partial credit if U have the wrong answer but at least the formulas written.
Best teacher ever!!!
nice young teacher. take him. clear and fair. a good one to take 170 from
Very Easy!!! He is really patient and give a lot of extra credit. I would recommend him to anyone because he is really awesome. Tests are fair and if you show up to class everday you will do good. I never did the homework and I got an A on both midterms. He said he has never failed a student so he is the right prof to choose!
Prof. Parineh is really laid back & takes the time to make sure that you understand the concepts of the class. I missed a lot of class and still got an A-. Awesome professor. His rule is that if you do poorly on the midterms & get a better grade on the final, you get the final grade.
I took Mr. Parineh's class during Fall of 2007. The textbook/practice problems is very useful and I still kept the notes (4 future references). Really good teacher, polished speaker with no accents =) Exams are reasonable and there is enough extra credits to keep you afloat.
The best professor I ever had. He is very helpful, gives you a lot of practice problems before the exam. I extremely recommend him.
For the starter of the finance major. he is the one i recommend to take with him. he explains very well. we have to take quiz once a week, but he did not grade. study his study guide. do well on the exam. most his exam comes from the study guide. his exams are multiple choice. for finance major has to understand bus 170 in order to advance classes
If you go to his class, you will learn what you need to know for the test. From what I heard, all the other finance teachers are hard. Parineh isn't hard at all, as long as you aren't stupid you should be able to get a B.
This professor expects you to show up and work hard but the pay off is worth it. He has excellent verbal skills and is very clear and in depth while explaining the concepts in realistic terms. In addition, he is really handsome and enthusiastically charming which make his classes much easier to sit through.
One of best of all. I just transfered from community college and I must say this. I have never had a teacher like this guy. He knows how to make you understand the material. This is the kind of teacher every student need. He is the best guys. I only wish he was teaching acct too. He is awsome, smart, and knows how to teach. highy recomended.
makes a hard class as easy as he can. very very helpful.
Great professor. Do the homework, quizzes, practice exams and you'll get an A. Finance can't get any easier than with him. Be in class, it will help a lot.
AWESOME teacher. He takes the time to explain topics until everyone understnads. He's totally laid back and does what he can to help students succeed. He is also extremely good looking which makes the math easier to handle :)
YOU NEVER USE THE REALLY EXPENSIVE TEXT!!!Awesome teacher! Really helped me out and wants his students to understand concepts by going really slow sometimes. The end of the sem. can pick up, so you better have a good handle on the earlier stuff or you'll fail at the end.
Best finance teacher ever! He's young, laid back, and makes finance as easy to learn as possible! Didn't use the book that much, but take good notes in class and really study his practice quizzes!!! Not much hw, had a few quizzes, 2 midterms, and 1 final. Take him if you want to learn something AND pass with a good grade!
take him if possible i think he only does night classes tho...really wasy if you go to class and take simple notes..no need to buy text never used it one got all info from notes
2 MTs, 5 quizzes, very little HW. Tests are MC. He does a great job of making finance as easy as possible. Be sure to understand the practice problems he gives, especially the ones before the test & you'll pass with at least a B. He responds to e-mail fast is very helpful in off hrs. He only teaches 1 class per semester though and its at night.
His lectures and practice problems are enough to prepare you for the exams. The content is clear and makes sense. He has a strong knowledge of all the material and is willing to help if you approach him. Don't be afraid to go to office hours. He's super friendly!
Hes a very nice and social guy. He makes bus170 so easy and he lectures very well. He gives A LOT of examples that makes us understand the concept easily. The practice problems and quizzes we have are similar or THE SAME as the problems on the test and final. He is fair in grading. If you do well on final than the last test you get the final grade.
Great Professor. I don't think there is any other professor who can teach finance easier and better than him. Better than him is absolutely impossible! He is very knowledgeable and enjoys teaching the material. He makes sure everyone understand his lecture. In class quizzes, example problems and his lectures are all you need to make a good grade.
Cool, laidback professor. Explains problems clearly and Makes sure you understand it. Will give you credit for trying. Approachable if you have questions. Going to class is a MUST. Will give inclass quizzes, as long as u go to class u'll be ok. Ueses same examples in class as on quizzes. I recommend him. Make finance seem easy.
I took this teacher a year ago. He is the best teacher I have ever had at sjsu. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to make teach. He goes beyond. You have a lot of chance to learn the material in class before you study. what else do you want. Highly recommended.
One of the best professors I've had at SJSU. The material isn't difficult in the first place, but Prof. Parineh clarified it even more. You can tell he wanted his students to understand the material. This class was a breeze, and I did learn a good amount about finance. Highly recommend this professor!
One of the best Prof. I have ever had. He explains the material extremely well and you will leave his class with a clear understanding of finance. Exams AND final are mlt. choice!! Can use a 3x5 card on Final! He LOVES Philz and you can find him there a lot of the time.
Amazing professor, he seriously was the best teacher i have ever taken! Clear on explaining and he really wants you to learn and he's good at it! m/t are like his reviews and on the final use a notecard! Barely any hawk he's very approachable for help. Take him!
Probably the best professor I've ever had. Clear. Straightforward. Reviews at the beginning of every class to drill important concepts in our heads. Patient. Approachable. Easy-going. Hardly any homework. 2 midterms and a final. Highly recommended! Wish he taught more classes I need to take!
Highly recommend. One of the best Finance professors on campus.
Professor's teaching style is to throw you in the water and see if you can swim. Lectures are pretty bland with not much explanation. The class was constantly confused with the material, however he was very open and helpful with questions. All in all it was a pretty easy class.
Easy professor. The exams couldn't get any easier, just study the material and you will be fine. Compare to other finance professors, this professor is much easier. Would recommend him.
This professor is amazing! He is so straightforward and clear, unlike the other finance professors. I'm terrible at math/accounting/anything similar but this class was a dream. You don't use the book because you learn everything in class so only purchase if you don't plan on coming to class. Bonus: he's nice to look at ;] Take him!!!
A great professor! Very easy to understand, lectures are actually interesting and he is very approachable. Easily the best finance teacher at SJSU. Show up for lectures, take notes and you'll do just fine.
Super good prof. Relates his lectures to real life scenarios. Don't buy the book, you won't use it. His tests are based completely off lectures so you must go to class. Two midterms and one cumulative final. Take this professor!
I feel lucky when I get teachers like this. He is very clear and helpful about his expectations. He has lots of real world experience that makes the learning much easier. He also makes you feel comfortable during presentations and lectures.
Excellent professor. Everything is explained clearly and thoroughly. Book is NOT needed. He will say to read the book, but quizzes and tests are straight from the lectures.
Take a few finance classes before this one the class was always confused with material and expectations. He was very open and helpful with questions, but the lack of structure and guidelines made his laid back class actually stressful. All in all it was a pretty easy class:lots of excel, group present., & book report. No tests & gives you e-texts.
He is the best teacher I have ever had at SJSU I'm HORRIBLE at math or finance or accounting but he made it extremely easy. He has a few pop quizes but they aren't too hard. SHOW UP TO CLASS!!! He doesn't take roll but the things covered in class are on the exam. He covers everything in detail and repeats if you don't understand. Plus he's cute :)
even though this was a 7:30am class, it was definitely worth it. he is clear in his lectures and uses real life example that is relatable. you do not need a textbook, go to all his classes, take notes, and listen, his quizzes and exams are all based off his lectures. one of the best classes I've taken at SJSU and he makes sure you understand
really good teacher.
Some of the speakers he brings in are dry, and yet we still have to pump out a 1-page reflection paper every week. If you have any issues with your group or sponsor, he's incredibly responsive and willing to help. He's very personable and knowledgable; I just wish he gave more feedback throughout the semester for our in-class progress reports.
Excellent professor! I took BUS 173C in summer 2015. 7 weeks, 1 Book Report, 1 video Report, 1 Valuation project, 1 Business Model Canvas (team project), 15 Excel exercises using Finance Concepts. No books, he teaches from PowerPoint slides. Take this class after taking BUS 172A. He is very supportive and gives good feedback. I highly recommend!
This professor is amazing! Coherent, inspirational and motivating lecturers. Participation is a must, and enhances the coursework, which is somewhat excel heavy, but which provides real skills for anyone going into a career in financial analysis. As charismatic as he is cute!
He is amazing! His lectures are extremely clear he gives tons of sample problems and solutions. He answers questions via email quickly and clearly he will send you more sample problems if you ask him. He makes confusing material very clear! If you go to class you will do very well!
really easy class, but you actually learn. he is really good at explaining and makes sure all the students know what he is teaching. he's nice and pretty understanding.. however, his class is so early in the morning but worth it. he has a study guide whch helps you study for exams. (1 project, 2 midterms, 1 final, and some pop quizzes)
Best professor at SJSU. His lectures are easy to listen to and he actually makes sure you understand the material instead of just dumping info on you like other finance profs. He teaches using excel labs, video reflections, two interesting projects, an easy book report, a few quizzes, & no tests! Tough class to get into, but really easy (and fun)!
Great professor! Actually learned about finance and how to apply it to the real world. He is one of the few teachers who treats students like adults vs high school kids. Few pop quizzes and homework assignments. One individual project. A midterm and final. Gives ample amount of study tools and posts the book online. Highly recommend!!
Awesome Professor! His lectures are great and he makes sure to connect the concepts to the real world! Class consists of excel labs, video reports, a book report, group presentation, and valuation project. Fun and interesting to do! Overall, a very helpful professor with good lectures! I definitely recommend taking this class!
I was disappointed after reading many great reviews about his class. I disliked how there were questions on the exams that were barely discussed in class. At the beginning of the semester he said pop quizzes did not count as much, well he's lying. The extra credit he gives is worth 1 point and I feel like it's unfair especially since it was 2 pgs!
This professor is one of the best I have had at SJSU. I hear what students are saying about lectures highlighting the material, and self-study is definitely require. However, he was constantly asking if the class had questions, and reviewed concepts until we understood the material. I usually attended office hours, and he was always able to help!
Best professor at SJSU! His class was interesting, and he brought a TON of real world examples, and learning exercises into the lectures. Instead of just making us memorize formulas, he showed what they actually mean in the real world, and how to apply them in our professional and personal lives. He also gave 4 east extra credit assignments!
Class consists of a few quizzes, valuation project, group project with presentation, book report, excel labs, and some short writing assignments. No exams, no final. Pretty chill dude, however, not much instructions are given on assignments so you're on your own most of the time. Easy grader for the most part. there will be some reading.
AMAZINGGG!!! Take him.
4 "pop" quizzes (he announces them the class before, so show up), 1 individual project, 2 midterms+final. Gives out the pdf of the book for free, but he's such a gem you don't need it. He teaches you everything in class. Take good notes, learn your calculator (do TVMCalcs), and you are set for an A. One of the best professors i've taken at SJSU
Not an easy A, but he's passionate about finance. Very approachable and willing to help any way he can. Pay attention in class. Put in the time and study for each exam and you can get a good grade. Failing one exam means failing the class so don't take exams lightly. 2 Midterms (25% ea), 1 project (10%), Quizzes (10%) and 1 final (30% of grade).
So I originally had a different professor, but Professor Bahram Parineh took over after our Spring Break. I very much dread math and was not doing well in Finance, but professor P honestly saved the entire class! His lectures made everything clear and easy to follow. He covers a lot in class so I wouldn't recommend skipping class.
He came into our class mid semester and SAVED the class! He takes his time explaining things, gives formulas, and actually cares how his students are learning. Definitely take him!!! He doesn't expect miracles!
Straight up a god at teaching BUS170. He is extremely clear and cares about teaching his students. You learn a lot in this class and he makes all the math concepts understandable and concise. I've heard many bad things about other professors so if you have a chance, take him. Don't misunderstand me, he definitely makes you work for the grade.
Honestly one of the best professors I have had at SJSU. He knows what he is talking about. Clear when it comes to exams and quizzes no trick questions. You have to show up to class for his lecture. Is willing to help you with any questions you have after class or during office hours. 2 midterms, 1 excel project and 1 final exam.
Great professor, he has a lot of experience with Finance. Always has study guides for his tests which cover 99% of the test material, and tests are easy As too. Only had one homework assignment and he went over that with us before we turned it in too. Good guy to know.
Mr Parineh is an excellent instructor and he knows his materials very well. He provides many real world experiences and quick tips like how to start an LLC, sole prop, etc. He encourages students to invest early and what is safe to invest in. I have learned many valuable info that are useful in starting a career.
If you can TAKE PARINEH!! One of the best professors here at SJSU. He makes class fun and finance simple, and really makes you want to apply what you learn into your real life. Truly cares about his students and if you go to class a study (not too much don't worry) you should ace the test, he gives practice test that are very similiar!
Professor P is so so so good. Finance was one of the classes I was most scared of taking in undergrad but he really does an amazing job of explaining concepts and breaking them down. Gives study guides similar to exams. Extra credit. One project. Also is just plain nice and positive and encouraging. Take him if you're lucky!
Excellent professor that is completely aware of today's student's situation. He understands the high costs of textbook so he does not require any textbook for his lectures. He explains real world important info and tips on starting a firm, saving and investing money, and biz choices that are extremely useful. AND NO CELL PHONES!
What an awesome experience it was to take his class. He is super dynamic and very passionate about finance, which made it way more interesting than it would usually be. He emphasizes a lot on real-world applications and shares the practical aspect of finance with his students. Grading is clear and without ambiguity.
I've never written a review before but for this Professor I had to. He's an amazing teacher that is extremely clear in explaining and such a nice guy. We have some quizzes (this may be diff for yall I had him during covid), a midterm and a final. He provides many optional but extremely helpful assignments that help you study for quizzes and test.
COVID edition: His class is very well structured and easy to follow. The grading distribution is also very fair. Quizzes & midterms are worth the same (30%). No lockdown for quizzes, but yes for exams. The prof is very understanding and approachable. Gives out study guides, midterms are very similar to the hw and quizzes.
Professor Parineh certainly makes this as simple as it can get. Exams are all taken with lockdown browser but he let you use notes. He gives out quizzes periodically (usually announces the class before, and no lockdown). He also gives us out extra credit, which brings your grade up by a whole percent per assignment. Highly recommend taking him!
He has homework and it was helpful because he went over the hard problems during class. If you do not do the homework then you wont do well on the tests. He is a great professor and typically I am not that good at accounting/finance things but he made it understandable. Recommend him a lot
He is one of the best professors Ive taken at SJSU. I took him fall 2020 (fully online due to covid). I was worried about it because I know finance is tough. He made the subject much less difficult with his very helpful methods of teaching. He truly cares for his students and is very good at replying to you if you have questions. Highly recommend!
The best professor I've ever had!!! Graded by HW sets, quizzes, exams and some extra credit. Exams are lockdown with camera but are open note, and are VERY close to most of his HW sets and quizzes. He always makes sure everyone feels comfortable with his pace and records all his lectures. Provides a lot knowledge applicable to the real world too!
GOAT! He makes a hard subject simple to understand and he gives you hw assignments that actually make sense / to prep for your exams. He also does exam preps and will slow down if you need to. Despite it being a 7 AM class he always was positive and was accessible to anyone and everyone. If you have the chance to take him, do so!
Pretty amazing teacher and super fun lectures. He teaches you things that you can use in your personal life. Is just an all-around great teacher and would recommend him to anyone who needs to take this course.
His tests are straightforward and he lectures very well. He is always approachable. Sometimes his assignment instruction might be confusing, but he eventually clarifies them.
Prof. Parineh knows the industry well and does an amazing job at teaching his students. His classes are very engaging and he brings so much energy to his 7am course. If you pay attention, you will see that he does not assign HW that is meant to trick you. He preps his students well for midterms and quizzes and sometimes allows 2 attempts.
Professor Parineh was great for 170. I had another professor and he was terrible and I had a hard time. Professor Parineh is easy to understand, explains everything in steps, and does many of the same problems. He breaks everything down to make it easy to connect. Go to lectures, do homework, and do the extra credit and you should be fine! 10/10
Best Professor I have ever had. Clear in his teaching and explains things so you really get it. Very approachable and puts effort in if you do not understand. I wish every Professor was like him. Seriously a breath of fresh air! I dropped this class twice prior and was scared to take again but so pleasantly surprised.
Great lectures, very clear and relates all Concepts to real world. This Professor was the best i have ever had and wish every professor teaches like him.
He is the GOAT for BUS170. Lectures mirror everything that is going to be on the homework, quizzes, and exams. His notes can be a little disorganized but it was still fairly easy to follow and understand. Provides a lot of practice problems/exams that mirror close to the actual exam questions. Rarely (if at all) throws any curveballs.
Seriously the best professor ever. He makes the concepts clear and is always available to his students. It's rare to find an instructor who cares about his students like Mr. P. TAKE HIS CLASS
Stellar, he is clear and thorough about every concept and takes the time to help every student succeed.
I would say one of the best teachers. Overall a humble dude who gives maximum respect and deserves the same amount back without asking for it. Easy class if you pay attention to the material, very clearcut what a class environment should be like.
One of the better finance prof for a reason. However, he goes through material so fast, and there are inclass assignments/hw. He reviews hw all the time. I recommend using the TI84 calc instead. Practice exams help prep you for final and tests are always lockdown. The final had that AND webcam. Allows 1 cheat sheet. Take this prof if you can!
I took him during the winter session and he was absolutely amazing. He goes through the material rather quickly, which is expected in a winter session, but he tries his best to make you understand the material and be able to apply it to your personal life. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN, ABSOLUTE GEM!
Took him for Winter 2023. Prof Parineh made everything clear & easy to understand. His HW and exams were fair. He also provided extra lectures on personal finance and investing. He has lots of passion and works in the industry, so he's very updated on finance trends and happily provides advice to students. Take him! :)
Honestly out of all the finance professors he is the best. I took this class before with Bill Murray and failed miserably, Professor P is much better at teaching, he cares a lot about his students. Note that this is a hard class though regardless of what professor you take. Also you HAVE to go to class to not be completely lost.
Lockdown browser with webcam required for the Midterms and final. Also, open notes. 1 HW set per week and a few quizzes in between.
Probably one of my favorite teachers ever, Professor Parineh is very inspiring and teaches very well, although this course itself isn't easy to learn he teaches everyone very well and gives great feedback. He is inspiring and teaches us important lessons that we carry on with our life. Greatest teacher in SJSU.
Professor Parineh is very responsive when you need help. He showed us inspirational lectures and he truly cares about students passing his class. The class is consist of 2 midterms and 1 final (cumulative), each chapter have homework and a couple project. Lastly, he gives a couple extra credit here and there.
Professor Parineh is very passionate about teaching finance and will help you understand how to use these lessons in real life. He is always quick to respond to emails and will not hesitate to help students. Class lectures are interactive and will help you understand the material better if you volunteer.
He is a wonderful professor who knows the subject to the full extent. If you go to class and participate you will do well in the class: Weekly homework, 2 Midterms, and 1 Final. Go to class, ask questions, pay attention. Many resources were provided for learning the course material. He offers 3 assignments worth 3% extra credit to final grade.
Just took him for winter session and honestly the best professor i've taken. wont regret taking him
Was hesitant about taking this class during winter due to the fact of meeting 5 days a week for 3 hours, but it was worth it and was honestly easy material compared to what everyone says. Really good lecturer and gives you a lot of assignments to make up for exam grades.
The professor was super nice and caring. Although the material was not easy to grasp, he gave us tons of practice problems which was so helpful. Also, he was willing to help students, so ask him for help if you are struggling. The best prof at SJSU!
I had the opportunity to attend Professor Parineh's class during the winter session, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. He is always available to assist with any questions and ensures that his students grasp the material being presented. Despite the challenges of the course, he empowers students to excel.
The course material was hard to learn but he made sure that the lectures are relevant to the midterms and homework. He leads the classroom with engaging lectures and really brings a learning environment. Fair grading scale and overall one the best professors in finance!
One of the best professors! He is super passionate about what he teaches and will do his best to help students in the class. It is a difficult class in general, but Professor Parineh does his best to make it clear.
Easily the best 170 professor out there, you won't regret taking his class 100%
Difficult course material but he makes sure that lectures are relevant to the midterms and homework. He leads engaging lectures and facilitates a learning environment very well. He is approachable for help and really cares for his students. One of the best professors at SJSU!
One of the best BUS170 professors - engaging lectures, helpful resources, and fair grading. Definitely take advantage of unstuckstudy for efficient exam prep.
Winter: 100% take him ESPECIALLY if this is your concentration. By far the best and most organized class I have had the honor of taking. Very charismatic person and effective lecturer. You'll *actually* understand concepts, use Excel, and get valuable life skills. NOT an easy A—you truly get the fruit of your labor (focus, work smart, do not skip).
I am terrible with Math! but this Professor was kind and helpful, and I was able to follow pretty well, considering.
Took him over the winter course for 170, and it was one of the best finance courses I took at SJSU. He is the best professor, because he actually cares about students, teaches us how to use Excel, and cares. Overall he's a great person and taught all of us how to TVM in one class period and almost the whole class understood. Great great guy!
One of the best professors I've had at SJSU! Genuinely cares about the wellbeing of his students and is accommodating. The class itself can be difficult so studying and following lectures is important but he prepares you well for the exams; nothing is unexpected. In-person class: 2 midterms, 1 final, and occasional quizzes both in class and online.
This was a great class and learning experience. Would recommend over any other professor or 170 course. - Thomas
About 1-2 hw assignments/week, 2 mt, 2 mini projects, 1 final, and 1 quiz/week + extra credit opps (1% increase each). He teaches the material so well and goes over almost every quiz/hw problem on excel. Allowed a page front/back cheatsheet for last midterm and final. All exams are mcq, t/f, and fill in. Best 170 prof, the excel work is so useful!!
Took him for BUS1 170 back in Fall 2023 and enjoyed the course! Weekly homework assignments and quizzes that are very easy. Many extra credit opportunities, and he goes over the homework in class step by step with you so no one is confused. Allows cheat sheets for exams too. I also took him for BUS1 127B honors and it was amazing! Would recommend!
The best professor to understand finance basics and learn about Stocks, bonds and Finance. He also makes sure to explain the concepts of life and balancing your finances. A little heavy on assignments but still managable, just need to be on toes on finishing them as he gives only 24-36 hours to finish so be quick on that.
Must take for 170, one of the most polished and smooth classes ever.
As good as you are going to get for teachers. Genuinely caring, thoughtful, introspective, incredible. Wants you to succeed, always gives relevant work, understands the material. S+ tier professor, should be your highest priority to take.
