The tests consist of the homework and review questions. Memorize those and you will pass.
One test every couple of weeks. There's a review session the class before, and he goes over the exact test questions. Lectures are off slides from the book. The only challenge here is staying awake in class.
Horrible professor. English is absolutely horrible, gets confused himself at least twice in each lecture. Zero capability to communicate and connect with the class. Tests are fairly easy. If you want to get a meaningless A, take it. If you really want to learn something, don't.
The lectures are well organized and clearly presented. The principles in lectures are linked to practical applications. He treats his students with respect. Classroom discussion is encouraged. He listens to everyone and respects each person's point of view.
The professor Cui is a very understanding lecturer. Especially in terms of deadlines of homework or lab reports which is a great plus for grad student like me. You can submit your homework one day or two days after the deadline if you had some unexpected problem. He tried to not complicate the lecture which is good. I am suggesting him to others
A good course if you are interested in materials. Very heavy on the tests. Attend classes and participate in the discussions then you'll have a good chance to get extra credit.
Bad spoken English, he doesn't seem interested in teaching and always has tech issues on his slides and experiments. Total read as textbook and test are tooo easy, can't learn anything from him. His experiments always fail
Dr. Cui is well-meaning, but his accent makes him very difficult to understand. He also presents the material almost exactly identically to the textbook, so you might as well stay home and read the textbook rather than going to lecture. He does give extra credit to students that answer questions during class. Easy exams, but would not take again.
A little too soft-spoken makes his accent a bit difficult to understand. Occasionally gives ambiguous answers. Usually explains things in a way that's easy to understand. Gives great lecture slides.
No homework,2 exams only. Corrosion is a very lecture and fundamentals-based class; so only take it if you're interested. However, the no homework, extra credit, and 2 exams make it worth it. Grading is strict; so don't make mistakes .this feedback is written before the final exam & final grade is received ; so making a guess on the final grade
Even though his accent is somewhat difficult to understand, his dedication to teaching is decent, the only problem is lectures are pretty boring.
He is an experimental guy and knows a lot since he runs his lab. If you participate in the class and seat in the front rows to hear him better you should be fine for the exams. Contribute to the class lectures by asking and answering questions to get extra credit toward your final grade. I learned a lot from him cause he explains simply and clearly
Dr. Cui is very passionate about corrosion, however he grades a bit too harshly when it comes to the presentation everyone must prepare at the end of the semester. The average was a B- on this particular assignment and unfortunately it was worth 20% of your grade. The reasoning for these bad grades can stem from no rubric being provided.
He is a good professor and he also teaches in a best way.
The course was useful for both academic study and practical application. He usually gives more knowledge in his experience and research.
The class material is based on lectures that can be hard to understand if you don't have a background in chemistry. The class weight is heavy on tests and a final project. The final doesn't really have much guidance other than study everything. The class was interesting overall but the presentation is graded a bit hard.
Very intelligent professor that enjoyed teaching this subject. There is no clear rubric for the paper or presentation which makes them more difficult and can bring your grade down dramatically.
Easy to communicate, flexible, average difficulty exams
Pretty boring lectures, but provided a lot of good knowledge for the exam and I would recommend going. There were only two exams and a paper with a presentation. The presentation was very short.
Dr. Bai is a good professor. The grade of this class is based on 2 exams (30% each) and a final project (10% abstract, 20% presentation and 10% project report)
Good Professor
Dr. Cui was a good professor for corrosion. The lectures were a little long winded sometimes, but he was great at relating it to real world scenarios. There is a semester long paper about corrosion that is not too difficult. Tests are weighted pretty heavily but you can earn bonus points in class. Homework not required.
The first half of the semester was good, the professor provided homework to study for the exam and the content was manageable. There are only two exams in the class. It is hard to prepare for the final because he does not give homework after Exam 1. Also, two many chapters are covered for the final. He grades too hard on the Final presentations.
Professor Cui was an okay professor. The lectures were difficult to maintain focus the whole time, but he provides a printed version of all the powerpoint slides, so that makes it a little easier to follow along.
He is a tough grader in presentations. He compares the undergraduate students' work with the graduate students' work. Of course, graduate students will be more professional in their presentations since their research is about it. Not like undergraduate students. not fair for undergrad students. He needs to be fair while grading the presentation.
Easy if you go to class and take notes.. which can be difficult to make it through.
professor is hard to understand, does not teach in depth, and fails to answer questions when asked. the book is a useful tool only if you know what you need to use it for. Of the 6 take home questions he asked in class, he only successfully answered/ explained 2 of them. lastly, he grades all work in comparison to graduate students.
Dont chose Ballester as your professor, bai cui is my hero, I love him
Good at preparing you for exams
Bai Cui is a great professor! I took his Materials for Nuclear Engineering class. He is fair on grading and really loves to interact with his classes!
Bai cares a lot about his research and describes it well in lectures. Very few things that make up your whole grade, but they are pretty easy to prepare for and score highly.
The class was not terribly difficult, and the lecture notes are given to you.
Professor Cui is very nice and extremely knowledgeable about nuclear materials.
Very nice man. Interesting class
Professor Cui is very knowledgeable in nuclear materials. He has lots of interesting stories and strong connections. I would highly recommend anyone to take this class.
He makes an active effort to make this course relevant to the present job market and research. He also encourages discussion and crtitcal thinking.
Dr. Cui gives excellent lectures which are easy to follow. If you pay attention in class, the tests follow closely. He likes to use questions asked in class on the test word for word so it's helpful to show up.
A great professor that really wants students to learn. Is very helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed my class with him.
The grading for MATL 360 is pretty easy going. You have 4 labs, 2 tests, homework, and a project to pad your grade. You can learn a lot if you pay attention. The tests are pretty easy and overall you don't have to worry a lot about the class so it is nice. His accent can be difficult to understand at times but it isn't horrible.
Dr. Cui loves participation in his class and gives bonus points for simply answering any question he asks. He has some trouble responding to emails so try and go through the TAs if you wish to communicate with him. He cares a lot about teaching so showing up to class teaches you lots of things not covered in the slides.
Inaccessible, poorly designed class, only one midterm, so a simple mistake could cause a big drop in your final grade.
Dr. Cui means well and is very nice, but he is impossible to reach outside of class as he doesn't answer emails and only holds 30 minutes of office hours. Lectures are difficult to follow, and it's very difficult to retain information from them. He had two exams, totaling 60% of our final grade.
Reads off of PowerPoint and gives lots of examples from his studies.
Kick back and relax, this stuff is easy
Great Professor
You can tell in class that Bai Cui wants to help you succeed, but he never answered emails, gave no guidance for a paper until 2 days before it was due, and the class is very exam heavy (2 exams worth 30% each) so small mistakes will hurt you in a big way. Labs were easy.
This class can be an easy A, but I don't feel like I really learned much. Lecture quality is very poor, I stopped showing up and would just look through the lecture slides on Canvas. The class structure is very poor and there was no criteria/ rubric providing any guidelines to the project (3 page paper and PPT summary).
The coursework is easy. Everything on the homework is exactly what's on the lecture slides, and everything on the tests is exactly what's on the homework. Some on here have pointed out that most of your grade comes from tests. While that's true, the tests never have any surprises. If you understand the homework, the tests will be fine.
Bai is very interesting and adds more than you need to be successful in the course. He prepares you perfectly for his straightforward tests. He knows a lot on the field and he loves to share about this subject.
The class is easy. He gives extra credit for participating. Although the labs seem complicated initially, the TAs make it easy to understand. The class does not have clear percentage cutoffs for what classifies as an A, B, etc. The project also had no clear outline for how it would be graded. This makes estimating your final grade hard.
Bai knows a lot about Material Science and cares a lot about his teachings. His class is an easy A if you pay attention during the practice classes.
The class is easy. If you review the homework and practice class slides, both exams are easy. There is no grading scale, as he decides the scale after the final.
Emphasizes the fact that he doesn't want to make the class super difficult he more just wants you to enjoy learning the material. I honestly didn't have much of an interest in the subject so I didn't get a ton out of the class besides what I needed. If you are interested in material science or just need the credit he'd be a good professor.
Bai Cui was a great professor. The assignments for MATL 360 (which was the lab section, and 260 is the section without a lab) consisted of few homework assignments throughout the semester. He asks questions in lecture randomly for bonus points, although attendance is not mandatory. I would definitely recommend taking him if you can.
This was a great class, and it was nice to finally have time to study since the homework did not take as much time as other classes. I would highly recommend.
Dr. Cui was a great professor. He always would give extra credit in class for participation. Dr. Cui did not focus on making the homework and exams harder than they needed to be, instead just wanted to make sure you understanded the material.
Bai Cui knows what this class should be. He wants to teach you the science of materials because he enjoys it and wants you to enjoy it as well. If you don't enjoy materials, you can put in a small effort and learn what you need to without stress. If you enjoy materials Bai Cui will make sure to get you interested in taking further classes.
Very easy class but there are no clear grading criteria for either class projects or what clarifies an A. Lectures are thorough but he jumps between slides, making it hard to follow. A good person but an ok professor.
Bai makes MATL 360 an enjoyable class. Only downside is that the grading scale is unclear.
Dr. Cui is a good professor who makes class enjoyable and interesting. He gives a really manageable amount of homework/lab assignments, and makes good connections to real-world examples in lecture.
This class was so easy as long as you completed homework, lab reports, and the project! There was no more than one homeowrk assignement due each week and there was a total of 4 labs throughout the entire semester. There was one midterm that followed exactly the reviews and homework assignments! I highly recommend taking this course with Dr. Cui!
As far as the lectures go, they were difficult to sit through. Certain things out of his control made attending lecture annoying. After not too long I decided to focus on reading the book myself and completing the homeworks as the semester progressed. It is an incredibly interesting course with an easy professor. I would recommend.
Bai Cui is a very good professor. He's a very lecture heavy professor and sometimes his slides don't make sense, but he also is very good at explaining things that don't make sense at the same time. His lectures match up very well with the book, so it's easy to follow along/catch up if you miss. He's also super helpful outside of class.
Dr. Cui's class is very easy, as there are very little expectations, but the high percent of the class hanging on tests, the class can be a little stressful at those times. It is very hard to focus during lectures, but he is nice.
Overall, the class was not very hard. I wish there was a little more weight to homework assignments but besides that the class was great.
Professor Cui is a great guy take his class you won't regret it. Also attend class good for exams
He wants his students to learn but he tries to make it fun but also relatable. He uses personal examples from his own research and life experiences.
Relatively easy and straightforward class. Homework and Exams were not too hard, but no rubric was provided for the lab reports and project.
Loves teaching this class. Can be difficult to understand at times, but he is willing to make sure you understand. Exams are based directly off your homework.
The instructor made me love material science by making the course a lot simpler than it looks
Good teacher, just show up to class and do the homework. The assignments were pretty simple.
He does a great job with explaining hard information. He can be hard to understand sometimes though.
Definitely recommend taking MATL 360 with Dr. Cui. The lectures sometimes feel a little boring at times, but he does a great job of teaching the material by incorporating some of his research into his lectures.
Very relaxed and flexible
The material is pretty straightforward he teaches you everything you need
Bai is a good teacher and he creates a lot of opportunity to learn, however his course lacked the challenge required to separate students by grade and is deciding to create a grading scale based on the average, when the average might be 96%-98%. that is my only issue
Great professor but does take some time to email back. Overall good experience.
The lectures are solid content for anyone interested in corrosion or electrochemistry. The class is not a lot of busy work, which I liked. The project was a presentation and a short paper, completely doable.
Professor Cui was a very helpful professor and was more than willing to work with students. Very simple class that only involved exams and final presentations for grades. Expectations were clear and as long as you went to class, paid attention, and appropriately prepared for exams, then the class was very stress free.
Overall a very nice guy. Can be difficult to understand sometimes, and takes a while to respond to emails. Expectations are usually not very clear as he is not very organized, especially in advance. He is pretty laid back though.
Dr. Cui is very nice! I thoroughly enjoyed his class and if you participate in class you get extra credit. Would totally recommend his courses
Great classes. Interesting lectures which are clear and easy to understand.
Dr. Cui is a very friendly professor and very helpful if you have any questions. Exams are manageable as long as you study the lecture notes. Overall, it is an interesting class that is pleasantly free from the burden of excessive homework.
He has great enthusiasm in the field. He can propel that enthusiasm into the heart of the student. He usage a lot of practical examples which will let you get a better idea about that specific field. He will use lots of visual aids which greatly stimulates visual nerds like me
He gives you everything you need to succeed in the course, as long as you pay attention during lectures and review lectures
Dr Cui is one of the best professors out there for me. Very nice, and caring. I love his teaching methods. The way he slowly takes his time to explain concepts is incredible. Also apart from just theoretical knowledge, he tries to relate the topic being taught to industrial and research applications. I look forward to taking his classes again.
It's clear that Dr. Cui has a passion for the subject, and wants to impart this on his students. He does a great job of keeping the class engaged by pausing his lectures and asking us to discuss new topics with our neighbors. He also does a great job of relating the topics to the real world in industry or research.
There are not any graded homework assignments.
Bai Cui is good at teaching a very specific subject that he clearly enjoys to his students. He shows great knowledge in the corrosion field, and did a pretty good job of teaching it. He was very understanding of things I was going through during his class, which led me to perform poorly and miss some deadlines, but he gave me second chances.
With limited Homework it is hard to gauge you understanding un the class but overall has great in class discussions with other students. While the class attendance is not mandatory, the slides will only cover a portion of what we discuss in class. He is somewhat Quiet in a lecture but is passionate about what he teaches!
Good professor, passionate about the course. Very lecture heavy since there was very little homework.
He is a good teacher and has a through understanding of the course.
I took Dr. Cui's Corrosion class in the Fall2023, and now again, I just finished taking his class on Materials for Nuclear Engineering this Spring2024. Believe me, Dr. Cui is one of the best teachers ever and very nice. The way he also relates what he teaches to his research is really good. The exams are also based on what he taught in class too.
This was my second course Dr.Bai Cui. Amazing lectures, well sought study materials and very practical learning experince. Overall Professor Bai Cui is an excellent teacher, who is kind and encouraging towards students.
Dr. Sui's classes were always very interesting and attractive for me. He always explained all topics to us slowly and tried to make everything clear and understandable to us. This case was very valuable and important for me as an international student whose second language is English. I really enjoyed being in this.
Good format for class, well taught
It was great having Dr. Cui as a teacher. He is well read and very knowledgeable. I appreciated his well written lecture slides, they were helpful for understanding the material.
Dr Bai Cui is an awesome professor.
I like the way he teaches, and he uses all the methods to deliver the idea. Best, Ahmed
Professor is poor at providing anything for exams and project. Minimal information provided. Grades everyone as if they are a grad student. Disappointing as he is a nice guy, but doesn't seem to understand that undergrad students are not on the same level as a grad student.
Class was easy and informative. The project (abstract, then presentation, then paper) felt out of order but was not graded very hard. He interacts with students by asking questions and gives time for students to engage in group discussion.
Virtually no homework is assigned other than the final report and its presentation, which also means there is very little material to practice with for exams other than the lecture slides (which were printed and handed out to all students each class). Dr. Cui is otherwise very knowledgeable about Corrosion, and is nice and approachable.
He is a very nice professor and displays the topic well. It is kind of difficult to know what the grading criteria are for the final report and presentations. The first exam fit very well with the homework and lectures but for the second exam very difficult to tell what will be on it since it covers so many lectures and no homework after the first
The grades are based on a midterm, final, and a paper. Tests are based on the lecture notes and the homework. There is no homework after the first exam. He does not provide a good rubric for the paper and presentation, so you don't really know what he is looking for.
Very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches. The way he sets the class up you get out what you put in. Very nice professor and he genuinely wants to teach the subject.
Professor Cui is an excellent instructor who makes the complexities of science accessible and engaging. The course materials are well-organized, and the lectures are complemented with practical examples. He always encourages active participation and fosters a supportive learning environment.
Professor Cui is very knowledgeable and passionate about the course material. While lecture-heavy, the class discussions are engaging. To succeed, attend class, review slides, and utilize tools like Unstuck ai - it really helped with my study prep.
Good professor, can be a little hard to understand at times, he used the microphone in class, which helped. He gives extra credit for answering questions during class, which is cool. The workload is very light, only a couple of homework questions after lectures. He also posts practice exams with answers, which I always appreciate.
Great professor, you will know what is expected on the test, some curve balls, but nothing crazy.
The class isn't too difficult. Lots of extra credit if you participate in class and exams aren't too challenging.
He is a fun professor and encourages in class discussion by giving you extra credit if you respond to him. Kind of hard to actually learn because he can be hard to understand and rambles at times. Slideshows get a bit repetitive and boring to sit through during the semester
Very interesting topics and industry applicable contents presented in class.
He makes it very easy to learn and as long as you prepare with the study guide exam will be relatively straightforward.
Was really good! All tests were homework questions and you were allowed a cheat sheet. Prof Cui is really caring and just an all around nice guy. He's really passionate about his field and just wants to share that with others.
I guess you must attend class , and follow closely.
Bai Cui has a fairly developed class. Students are given extra credit for participation in class, but the class grade itself is heavily weighted on the two midterms and final. The midterms are relatively simple as long as you produce a good quality cheat sheet, and know how to do the homework problems.
Bai Cui is a very good guy and wants his students to do well. The class expectations are clearly laid out and there are lots of extra credit opportunities.
He gave a lot of opportunity for extra credit and clearly wanted students to do well. As long as you do the homework and keep up decently well in the class exams are not bad.
Professor Cui is obviously passionate about the material and a caring and understanding professor. Only thing I will say is he is a little soft spoken and the rubric for the material seems to be all over the place but otherwise I would highly recommend this professor.
Dr. Cui is a great professor, a little hard to understand at times but nonetheless his class is fairly easy.
Professor Cui was a good professor but he was sometimes hard to understand. If you go to the lectures and pay attention, you will do fine in the class!
The class has a four labs throughout the whole semester. The exams are fairly easy if you attend the practice exam classes before each exam. Each homework assignment is fairly short and easy. You can get plenty of extra credit by simply participating while in class. Bai Cui is a good professor and cares about what he teaches and his students.
I was scared for this class but it was actually cake. Attendance isn't graded but please go to lecture because I think he gets sad when everyone skips. He's just a cute nice guy. The class itsself is almost a joke and as long as you do your homework, labs, and report you'll be just fine. Also gives you extra credit whenever you talk in class.
Mr. Cui is very passionate about what he does, he obviously knows what he is talking about. Going into the class, however, I had no idea what to expect, and I still don't feel like I learned anything. He gives out practice exams which were very similar to the tests so if you base your cheat sheet off of it, you'll do perfectly fine on exams.
Bai Cui does the most to make the class as interesting as it can be, just asking students to be curious about the content and ideas that it pertains to. As long as you pay attention to the lectures and do the homework, there will be no issues.
He is very kind, funny, and smart. However, he is difficult to understand, which makes the lectures difficult to concentrate on. The bonus points help motivate my attention. The homework is easy and similar to the exams. The project isn't too much.
Good proffessor 10/10 would take again
Dr. Cui gives great opportunities for mechanical engineering majors who wants to learn material science just for the basics. You have the resources to learn as much as you want to, although the course itself is not challenging
Very easy A as long as you put in any type of effort.
Bai is a homie so take his classes
The professor does a good job of letting you know what the exams will cover.
Easy A. Lots of extra credit if you participate.
The course was very easy, lectures were not required, and almost felt pointless to attend.
Lectures are somewhat boring as he mostly reads from the slides, but gives bonus points if you participate. Study guides are similar to exams, and pretty easy to get the grade you want.
Easy assignments, jut be on top of things. Test are similar to homework
good use of extra credit, the lectures were large and hard to learn in.
Overall the class was pretty easy as long as you put in a little effort. The exams are similar to the review done the class before the exams, and the lab sections are simple and follow the videos provided beforehand. You don't have to show up to lecture, but if you get enough extra credit you could probably skip the final and still get an A.
He's a super nice guy, and he just wants students to put in some effort. Tests aren't meant to be hard if you look over your homework and review, you'll do well. Labs you schedule with a group and are pretty simple. Attendance doesn't matter all that much unless you want chances at extra credit. Definitely recommend!
Bai Cui is an average lecturer but he shows a strong passion for this subject. He makes sure students know everything that is needed for the class. The exams are pretty easy because there are practice classes before exams that basically go over most of the information for the exams. Not much homework at all. Very enjoyable experience!
The study guides are very helpful because the exams are very similar. The labs are pretty easy and you choose when to do it.
Bai Cui truly cares about his class and his students and wants everyone to succeed. He also likes to reward class participation by giving bonus points.
I find this class to be very easy, while still highlighting some of the materials concepts necessary to know from the course syllabus. Dr. Cui offers a lot of bonus points for participation, and he is a very nice, accessible professor. I did not feel very challenged in this class however.
Bai Cui is a passionate professor who wants his students to succeed and enjoy the course. His lectures are posted and easy to follow, and exams are very similar to the practice resources. The labs are straightforward and fun to complete, but the lab reports can be tedious.
Covers purely through lecture handouts lecture slide to help you keep.
He is the easiest professor and class I have ever had. Every bit of active participation is worth a point and I am on pace for 130% in the class. Show up and its light work.
He just goes through slides, but the practice exams provide good material for studying for the exams.
Great professor. Gives out lots of bonus points if you answer his questions during lecture. Sometimes his questions don't even relate to the material. Homework was easy and tests were not too difficult.
He is extremely easy with grading and giving out extra credit; he is generous and able to help you anytime. His lecture is fine, just going through slides (like everyone mentioned). Tests are great, with a cheat sheet allowed also. Studying homework and practice problems will give you an A.
I don't think I learned much, but it was super easy.
Great teacher show up and you will get a great grade.
Exams are very straight forward and lecture slides are very helpful for studying. He is a great professor and obviously passionate about the subject. Would take again!
Dr. Cui is very knowledgeable and passionate about nuclear materials. He is helpful in answering questions, and he gives bonus points for participating in class. The lecture prepares you well for exams.
This professor was really passionate about his class. Most importantly, he wanted his students share that same excitement rather than just learn and leave. He was a bit quiet, but each lecture was interesting with a lot of ties to the real world. He also brought in guest lectures from industry to talk about real world problems and solutions.
Professor Cui is very knowledgable in his field, and the more you participate the more you will learn from him. He can be difficult to understand at times, but if you ask for clarification he will be happy to explain more clearly. There isn't much that goes into the gradebook, but nothing in this class is too difficult.
Very polite and reasonable. He doesn't really provide materials to study for tests, however the tests are relatively simple.
Dr. Cui is very knowledgeable and excited about what he has to teach. He enjoys when the class participates in lectures and gives out bonus points all the time. There are very few graded assignments, but the tests are not that difficult, and the project was more interesting than anything else.
The professor is casual in a good sense with the class. Especially with the size of the class it made it more of a group discussion session about the topic rather than a lecture being given to us. We were able to ask questions, discuss with the professor and other students, and work towards understanding the topic
The class was very informative. Lectures can be information heavy, but he does a good job of including real world examples to help digest it. Two tests and a presentation were what were graded, but they weren't that difficult and there were extra credit opportunities.
Dr Cui is a good professor. Classes are pretty easy. His power points are great. Read his notes make a good cheat sheet you should get an A. An improvement to his class could be throwing in a couple more slides of some high level technical stuff. More decay series, crystal structure, degradation, MATH. No need to test on it.
Dr. Cui is a very sweet professor, he is very respectful and always smiling. He discusses so many important and relevant things in the class, which pushes the way I learn things. His courses are very easy yet great to learn things. I would take his class again 100%. Thank you Dr. Cui
