VERY COOL
Very nice and approachable.
Quite vague. Goes too fast in her lectures. Puts students on the spot.
Crazy lectures. Goes super fast. Assumes too much.
=]excelente.
present easy-to-understand lectures, easy on hw grades, lots of extra credits, hard exams though. Her TA's messes up all the time on grading the exams and recording hw grades
So you sign up for a introductory stats class. How hard could it be? In this case, very. The tests are super hard and are very easy to bomb even if you do your homework and study. The extra credit makes up for it, but this class isn't worth all the w
She is a good professor and shows concern for her students.
Hard stuff. Can't stand the class.
Very caring and approacable professor. She teaches a difficult subject (for non math majors to understand) and does a good job. Its not her fault that the classes are over crowded, and her TAs are stupid. She is a great teacher and is fair. And she is HOT
she teaches really fast but is nice if u need help with something or an extension on homework or extra credit... tests are ok cause u get a cheat sheet... and there is a major curve!
wonderful teacher overall. VERY caring, understanding and helpful.
Very good teacher. Go to class and she goes everything thoroughly. Gives a lot of extra credit and a cheat sheet. Go to class and expect nothing less than an A.
one of the best math teachers at stony
She is a quirky and good lecturer. Easiest math class ever. She, however, lets her TAs grade exams and they mess up. Very nice woman though, kind of lazy.
She answers any and all questions from the students. She is by far the most patient professor I've had and she explains the materials well.
very nice lady! she is very patient with her students and will answer any questions that u have. tests are fail and she gives extra credit which helps alot. very few homeworks...and she postes up the solution to hws and gives practice exams which helps alottt for studying!! recommended!!
Definitely hard to find a teacher at Stony such as Bakoo. She is patient, willing to help, and speaks clear English. Her notes are legible and easy to understand, and she will not proceed until the whole class follows her.
Two thumbs up!!!
Easy.... I got a B+. Your Notes is just like the test.
She was awesome. Easy to understand how to do things. Gives xtra credit for all tests and final. Lenient on HW due dates. Cheat Sheet for every test!!! Probably one of the best teachers ive ever had. Take it with her or dont take it at all
i'm not the best in math and this prof helped make it easier...she gives extra credit, allows a cheat sheet on the exams, and i think i understood the material more than any other math i have taken
Best math teacher at SBU...if you have to take statisitcs u MUST take with her or i promise u will regret it!
She is very nice and clear in what she teaches. If a student didn't understand something she will stop and explain it again without an attidude. Very fair grader. Definately recommended.
I hate Math and AMS is one of the worst subjects ever created. This professor is incredible, however. She explains all the material as best as she can and is willing to help her students however possible. Not alot of professors care like she does. Attending class is essential because it's really easy to get lost.
Great teacher, hate math usually but loved this class.... sit in the front of the class she loves that and will quickly learn ur name and remember you for when its time to give a few extra points here and there...
This wasn't such a bad class, except for the fact that she was boring. i fell asleep every class. Therefore, you miss some decent notes. you have to go to class to understand what exactly is going on.
Really cares about her students. She makes sure that you know the material and even allows you to have a cheat sheet for the test. Great professor!
If I was hot oil math would be my water! Math is like poison ivy to me, but Dr. Bakoo is my calamine lotion, she makes math tolerable. I actually enjoy going to her class. She has so much patience, she's gentle, she could calm a raging bull. I like that she explains stuff to you in a way tha you can understand, she's down to earth unlike many other professors and very easy to talk to. She's a very beautiful person both inside and out.
shes so sweet, very helpful and doesnt move on to the next topic until everyone understands the concept. Her tests are fair, just do the homework. the class is kinda boring, but shes very likable
tests and homeworks were very difficult for me, but she doesnt rush thru lectures. She makes sure to answer everyone's questions in class. Shes very nice, but didnt have much advice for me when it came to getting extra help for the class. She didnt prove helpful there.
You have to go to her lecture in order to understand the material, the textbook doesn't really help. She is helpful but sometimes confusing (maybe is the material). Statistics is very boring.
very kind and easy going. just pay attention and show up and you'll do great.
I took this hard class before, it was so difficult. Even though she runs through the class asking if anybody asks questions, no one raises their hand because theyre too shy to admit they dont know what theyre doing. I know this for use because whenever i take the test, more than half the people have blank pages. Im telling u the truth! U try it >=]
DEFINITELY the only professor to take ams 102 with. shes so nice and actually speaks english and makes it really easy to do well as long as u put in a just a little effort.
She will put on a good face in class, and she will teach you some things, but her TAs can and will ruin your grade no matter how hard you work. She will not help you even under extenuating circumstances.
Great professor, no complaints about her. Makes statistics understandable and clear.
Good teacher. Easy to do well in this class HOWEVER the most unorganized professor I've had to date. Whether it her or her TA's im unsure but there is no structure to handing back homeworks or tests. Students focus more on finding there papers in the huge piles than on the lesson. In her own words "mayhem". Its a shame, potential to be a great class
Very good teacher, makes sure everyone understand the material. As long as you do the homework and extra credit, which are actually good ways to practice in this class, you shouldn't have a problem with this class. She speaks clear English (no accent) and is very helpful during class and office hours.
She is a really good teacher. She makes statistics easy. Although, she can teach, the work is sometimes still hard. Do the hws and *credits, and go to tutorial and you should be fine. oh, and she does anything to help her students pass, like replace exams with others if your grade is higher the second time aroung. I definitely recommend her!
Very plesant, knowledgable prof. Just enough homework required in order for you to understand material. Has printouts of notes so the class is easily structured and there are no surprises on exams.
And even thought, I sometimes didn't understand Bakoo, I went to the TAs who helped me understand. Extra reviews were held, and it was specially helpful when the TAs gave me personal assistance. Some of the review questions were on the TEST! Go to the office hours, they help! Homeworks were ok! I pulled an A!
Excellent professor, very kind and fair grader. She really tries hard to pass her students. offers extra credit and is helpful during office hours. The only thing is to stay on top of lectures because it is easy to get lost in her class
shes awsome. u just gotta go to her class and do the hw's... but shes sickkk always there to help too...
Very nice teacher, you really have to go to class to understand it, hw assignments and 3 tests plus a final, if you have to take a math I recommend it
Great math teacher. If she were teaching this in a smaller setting, it would be a perfect class. Really, really nice, gives students a lot of chances to pass, makes sure everything is clear every step of the way. Highly recommended.
you always have to go because she goes over things that are not in the book.the homework is easy, and they dont grade it,as long as you hand it in.Plenty of opportunity for extra credit (15 points!).She is the only professor who realizes that 95% of the students dont want to be there but have to for their decs, so she makes it easy and worth while.
Very fair, offers lots of extra credit assignments
She is one of the best, very flexible and understanding. Ams is hard, but she makes it easy. Grades fair and gives extra credit. Attendance is not mandatory but is good to stay in class..to keep on top of the work. Her TA's are helpful and also she helps a lot during her offcie hours. I would recommend her for any one who wants to pass AMS.
She very well understands that most people taking this course are not Statistics majors, so she tries to make this class as easy as possible and the least painful. She's very patient and very clear with her explanations. If you just show up and pay attention, it'd very difficult to fail.
If you have a choice of AMS 102 professors, take her course! She is one of the few teachers who realizes the world does not revolve around her course, but she also manages to make things comprehensible (*if* you attend class) and she gives lots of extra credit and homework help. The single most caring professor outside my department I've ever had.
Yeah she may talk a bit fast and can loose you sometimes, but she is a very flexible professor who will go over the materials until you have a clear idea about it. She also gives you extra credit towards your exams especially for the final so do take the opportunity to do them.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! Understands the needs of the students and gives the best grade possible. Teaches at a fast pace, but that is because there is a lot of material to learn in statistics. Lecture notes online. Honestly, I started off doing horribly, but improved dramatically. I am veryyyyyy thankful that she noticed and gave me the grade I deserved.
GREAT teacher. Take her for statistics. She makes everything clearer & tries hard to help everyone understand. She gives plenty extra credit which help prepare u for the tests. She tries to make everything understandable. Go to class because missing it is asking for confusion. Very nice professor and very helpful. Would take a class w/her again.
She is a fantastic teacher. Very clear and will stop everything in the class to make sure that you understand she will give multiple examples and in her office hours will spend as long as it takes to make sure you get it. Overall excellent teacher I would take any class with her cause I know I would understand.
Great professor. If you are prone to sleeping in class, you will try very hard and still not be able to sleep. This is a good thing if you want to learn. She makes everything as clear as possible. Very reasonable with grades and does things pretty well. A+ teacher.
Bakoo is amazing. She knows people in the class most likely are taking it for DEC C credit and/or are not AMS majors. She is more than happy to help you during class or office hours and really wants you to do well. Offers extra credit, review sessions and several practice exams. She makes it understandable, and is very fair.
Very good teacher, as has been said. Offers a lot of opportunities for extra credit. The fact that some tests are multiple choice (and thus no partial credit) can REALLY hurt though. She can be a bit confusing at first, but once you get used to her teaching style it gets a bit easier.
Professor Bakoo allllllllways be helpin me out when I didn't get the material. Shes real good with her explanations and shes reallll kind, too.
i hate math with a passion but got a B minus so u be the judge. Just to show how great she is, my test grades were with extra credit - 77.4, 52.5, 55, 60 so umm yeah lol and i got a B minus. Take this class. shes very helpful and makes it easier
shes a great professor. as long as you go to the classes and keep up with the assignments (which isnt bad if u do it when their assigned)youll do well
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really nice woman, but absolutely makes things INFINITELY more complicated than they need to be. She's more than happy to answer any question you have, but until you can sit down with the notes and figure out what's going on, you'll be too lost to have any. Fair tests, posts practice exams, solutions to homework, more than willing to help.
very helpful and considerate of students schedules and priorities especially for non ams majors. grades fairly and material is presented in a logical manner. if you cant understand it, its not because of her presentation, its because its simply over your head.
Great teacher, very easy to understand and goes over everything clearly. Would recommend to everyone for AMS 102. =]
hey hey! your a great teacher and i love the way you teach mathematics... thanks for being a great teacher teach!
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!!! Very nice and helpful. The BEST math teacher!!!!!!!!!!
the class is fairly easy if you show up to class and do the hw assignments. excellent professor!!
She is a great professor. She has so much patience for dumb, repetitive questions. Always willing to clarify anything and is soo nice. Offers extra credit and curves too. Just go to class, pay attention, and do the hw. She goes over a bunch of problems in class, step by step, so it makes everything clear.
She's a sweet lady, but she moves very quickly. She'll hand back the homework in the middle of lecture which is distracting. The TAs were no help at all. She'll stop for questions, and her tests are fair, but I just didn't like her teaching style.
She's extremely nice and very helpful when someone is in need of help. Her tests are easy if you study all her practice exams. Attendance is not required but it'll be very good if you can make it to all her classes becauses she teaches a lot of material in each lecture.
I was a student at Stony Brook from '94-'98 and initially was a Pre-Med student. I took Bakoo's elements to Statistics class and changed my major to Applied mathematics and statistics. I love Math and have never regretted the decision I made. She is an excellent teacher. I was her teacher's aid for 2 semesters and love teaching as well. Thanks Bako
Best Stats teacher out there!! She's excellent. She explains everything veryyy well. Her tests are easy and fair. If you work hard and make an effort shell cut you a break when you need one. I wish I could have her for all of my AMS classes
Prof Hagedorn was perhaps the best teacher I ever had. I was a returning to the University after a 25 year absence. She helped me navigate my way through her course and was always available to help me whenever I needed it. All of the professors at the university should be so dedicated!!!
Deff. take this class if u can. Prof. Hagedorn is extremely helpful & understanding. She genuinely wants u to do well & understand the material. Attendance isn't mandatory but u learn so much in 1 session so deff. go 2 every class, tests are fair as long as you do all the HW & take advantage of her office hours & practice tests theyre a huge hel
Prof. Bakoo is the best!she goes out of her way to explain things n onli goes further if evry1 understands the material. Her exams were ok to me considering tht am onli an avg student in math. There's 2 midterms 4 dis class. When in 1 of d exam the grades were not tht good she evn took her time on a sat n allowed retest! lots of extra credits too:)
Professor Bakoo is a wonderful teacher. She has a very motherly way about her. She's sweet and caring about her students, but do not take her sweetness as a weakness. She wants you to understand the material and she will challenge your knowledge on the exams. DO NOT miss class! Much is covered during class and she explains the material thoroughly.
very good professor, with hard material and killer tests. Multiple choice does not make them easier. First half of the course is thousands of times easier than second half.
She's a caring teacher and is always willing to help her students out. After many students bombed the 2nd exam, she allowed a retake on a Saturday. She also gave many opportunities for extra credit. She is organized, and honestly doesn't want people to do poorly in her class.
Bakoo is so sweet! She goes over everything, but does try to trick you a bit. Although this is statistics and not calculus, YOU STILL NEED TO GO TO CLASS!! Do the extra credit opportunities, they are extremely helpful. Do the homeworks, they're worth a lot! Paying attention and doing homework will earn you a good grade :)
Very caring teacher. Explains over and over till students understand. If you come to class and do your H.W. you will do fine.
shes unbelievably dedicated. she comes in at night to hold reviews on her own time. crystal clear lectures, and has a lot of patients. she cares about students. i am fortunate to have her for a teacher.
She is AMAZING. Truly cares about the students, is clear, always willing to answer questions asked by students. Highly recommend!
She is the sweetest professor! She honestly wants you to do well! The curve isn't huge but if you do your work and the homeworks you'll be fine! She is always willing to slow down and go over anything you don't understand and she is super helpful in her office hours. If you have to take this class take it with her!
Bakoo is the best! She is super nice and explains everything in great dept. She reviews a class before each exam and also gives extra credit! She makes the class an easy A! =)
I haven't taken math since 10th grade and thought I would bomb this class - but I got an A because she is an absolutely wonderful teacher and definitely the best math teacher I've ever had. She is also a very fair grader, offered extra credit and even held a review session before the second exam. Highly recommended, even if you suck at math
She is so nice! Great Professor
This class was a breeze. She's a very easy grader and gives you extra credits and multiple extensions on HW (which I don't think is really fair to the people who actually submit the work ON TIME). At any rate, she cares a lot and truly wants you to do well. She will re-explains and answers questions no matter how stupid and obvious they are.
She is wonderful... plain and simple.
Amazing teacher and person. Sometimes the topic was difficult, but she explains things thoroughly and with examples and steps. Do the hwks, take home assignment, and extra credit. They're all good practice for tests. Tests aren't easy, but def fair. Never used the txtbk. Ask questions, go to class, and do what you're supposed to and you'll do well.
Absolutely the best math professor I have ever had. I haven't taken any math courses in over 2 years and I'm maintaining an A average. She's great. She explains everything incredibly well, very friendly, very fair, and beyond helpful. She truly knows how to teach, she's not just a lecturer.
Bakoo is one of the best professors I've had at stony. She explains everything in class really well and even goes through every problem step by step. There is no reason for anyone to be lost in this class. Definitely take stat with her if you can. She also gives extra credit for every test!
Professor Hagedorn is one of the best I've had so far at SB. Very Helpful and will repeat concepts until you've understood them. DO NOT need textbook, got an A without it.
She gets an A. A real class act all the way...extremely organized and on top of her game. Awesome lecturer and a caring and remarkable person too, will leave a lasting impression on you. Experienced, knowledgeable, with unlimited patience. students are #1 priority, fair grading, you will love looking at her, listening and learnign from her.
She is an OKAY teacher but what really bothers me about her is that she wants to make the class hard. The subject itself is not hard, I basically taught myself everything but her assignments and the way she goes about doing the problems are so unnecessary. She just wants to make this class hard and it's pretty frustrating.
She makes this class way harder than it should ever be. If you have to take AMS, try to take it with another professor. I do not know why others are saying this class is easy; AMS in general is easy, just not with this professor. She DOES NOT CURVE the tests and SHE DOES NOT GIVE A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT.
She may not be the easiest professor but she knows what she is doing. She is very clear with her material and i have to give it to her, she has a lot of patience. Answers all of the students questions clearly. Wish she would make the exams easier.
best teacher, so helpful...one of the good ones at stony!
I highly recommend Bakoo! She is so awesome, such a great teacher! She is so helpful, she'll answer all your questions during class and even afterwards. Print out the lecture notes and fill in the answers during class and you'll get an A like I did. The tests are totally fair and you're allowed to use a cheat sheet for all but the first exam.
I always struggled with math, but I was able to pull off an A. If you go to class and pay attention, you should do fine in the class. There isn't attendance, but it would be hard to learn the material without going to class. The homework is online and is helpful for exams. The textbook was only used for practice problems for tests.
Don't need the textbook at all. She teaches really well so if you listen you should be able to understand and do well on the materials she is teaching. She was really lenient and generous with the extra credit and the final.
Math has always been really hard for me, but Bakoo is an awesome professor. She is very helpful and made everything so clear. She's really nice and actually cares about all of her students. If you go to class and do all of the assignments, you should do fine.
Bakoo is an amazing professor. she is so nice to everyone, and always smiling. she takes any questions, at any time. works at a perfect pace. also for AMS102 the homework is accessible long after the due date!!!
Really took a lot for me to keep focused during her lectures.I do not understand why she uses a projection stand from the stone age for notes, its 2012.There are smartboards at your disposal! If you learn the material and have the concepts down, you are golden. Any maybe its just me, but her tests are WAY too long. Aftera test, 70 kids are not done
She used the smart board in Javits since the classroom was equipped with one and posted lecture notes on blackboard. Some of the older lecture halls at the Brook are not equipped with smart boards, even in 2012! The material gets really interesting in the last third of the semester. Her tests are long and seem LONGER if you are unprepared....
First thing, she makes Elementary Statistics very difficult to learn. Best part is, she will curve your grade by so many letter grades. Go to class, ask questions, study hard, do all her extra credits, and most importantly- study! Her exams are very difficult, and take a very long time to finish.
FIrst of all for everyone who says that she is not a good professor that is not true. She explains everything so clearly and slowly that sometimes I felt like she was going too slow in lectures. Her exams are not that easy but if you study enough you will do fine. Plus she gives A LOT of extra credit so take advantage of all of them.
Everyone that said she is hard to understand must hate math. This class is easy if you go to class and learn the problems. Almost everything is done on a statistics graphing calculator, so having that is a must. Also, do not buy the textbook, never opened it once.
Extremely dedicated, clear and fair person. A pleasure as a professor. Great notes and fair exams, although they are long and detailed.
Awesome Professor, She is very lenient with due dates. She gives extra credit. And her tests are super easy if you do the review packets she gives a week in advanced. I got an A on all her exams. Overall one of the easiest classes I've taken!
An amazing professor. Her lectures are clear and she uses a microphone. She gives plenty of extra credit opportunities as well. The online homeworks are due the end of the semester and the exams are multiple choice with around 40 questions. But they aren't hard! Go to class and ask for help when you need it cause she's more than happy to assist you
Hagedorn is unbelievable. She loves her job. She goes above and beyond in every way, explaining something (with great enthusiasm), until we "get it" - her words...,posting lectures and slides online every day. caring, kind, a rarity here. speaks clearly and knows the material cold. highly recomend and regret that i cannot have her for all classe
Such a good professor!! Everything she teaches is very clear and she will explain it over and over again until you get it! She's very lenient and sweet. She can say stuff that offends people at times, but she is the most comfortable professor I've had at Stony Brook. This class is a lot of work, but if you work hard it's worth it!!!
I really like her. She will always take the time out to answer any questions no matter how simple or complex. She wants everyone to understand the material. She didn't have many quizzes. Her tests are very fair. I got high Bs on the tests and still got an A. You do not need to buy the textbook. I would recommend this class
Bakoo is the best. Even though she seems a little tough, she's nicer than she probably should be. She gives plenty of extra credit, so make sure you go to class. She makes copies of anything you need from the textbook so you don't have to buy one. Two midterms and a final with cheat sheets, super easy if you read the notes.
It was a hard class and I thought I was failing. I ended with a B-. She is wonderful with extra credit and is clear. ASK QUESTIONS. EMAIL HER. She wants to help. I would take her again for sure. I received 50's on her tests, a 75 on the final, and still got a B-. Go to class and study, you will pass easily.
People already said everything about her. She make difficult subject extremely clear. Just do all homework in time and practice everything she put on BB.
Amazing prof! One of the best at SBU. Extremely clear in teaching, goes over several examples to make sure you understand. There is online homework and paper homework to hand in and you have to do the work if you want to get an A. Two midterms and a final but gives plenty of practice problems. Extremely helpful and sweet at office hours.
She's a nice person and gives lots of extra credit but gives way too much work. There are weeks where at least 3-4 assignments will be due.
She is the nicest, fairest professor I've ever had. Held a test on a Saturday for kids who had an orgo test the same day. Rescheduled all students finals who had hers as well as more on the same day. Totally approachable, always welcomes questions, emails back within the hour. She is great, put effort in (it is a math class) get an A.
Long tests but fair tests, she will give you endless chances to improve your grade but you do have to work hard. If you go to class and pay attention, this class is easy. An extra exam was given last semester too but she only uses the grade if it benefits the student. I recommend this class, learned a lot.
Stat is a very difficult subject for most & like any math, requires homework for practice. But, Bakoo makes herself available for extra help, really knows material well & can teach it. She gave extra exam which OBVIOUSLY was for us to improve our grades. Held alternate test and review sessions on her weekends for who needed it. The nicest prof.
MOST HELPFUL AND CARING PROFESSOR EVER! We need more professors like her. She does everything she can to help you pass her class. As long as you try and study, passing isn't hard.
Took this class to fulfill my major methodology requirement. This class was a lot more homework than I am used too, but wasn't unreasonably hard. She gave four extra credit opportunities in addition to exams replacing the last one if you did poorly. She's a great professor and I would recommend this class instead of POL 201.
Such a great teacher ALWAYS willing to help. Written HW really not bad - go to OHs if you need help. Lecture notes are clear, going to class is absolutely worth it. Tests similar to optional practice problems. Be comfortable with those, calculator commands-you're set.Upset I won't have her again! Only complaint barely used the expensive textbook.
No one should be complaining about this SBU professor. Clear about what's on tests - no surprises.
The best math teacher I have ever had. Lectures efficiently and provides clear notes and examples, and gives ample extra credit. Tests require studying, but there are no curveball questions. There is a lot of homework, but it is not diffcult to do. Do not purchase the textbook, she provides all the necessary material.
Lots of extensions and extra credit, lectures incredibly well and clearly, and very sweet lady. One of the greatest professors I have ever had. Yes, the homework is a lot but completely doable and tests are very fair.
She is an amazing professor. I learned a lot from the TA, he's also very hot! Definitely take this class and just pray you have a great TA... Otherwise it may be hard to actually understand the lectures.
She is one of the nicest professors ever. Absolutely adore this woman. Shes EXTREMELY understanding; I might even say shes too lenient with her grading (which is great!). On midterm 2 there were 76 questions, and you needed 60 for 100%. Anything above 60 was counted as extra cred. Overall very easy to get an A.
Very easy A if you do all the assignments. Very nice caring professor. She sometimes gets mad easily though(which is hilarious because she is usually so nice). Dont buy the textbook, she gives you everything you need in class.
Very caring professor, and she breaks the concepts down nicely. I wouldn't call it an easy class, but if you do all of the work, I'd say you're guaranteed at least a B. Do yourself a favor, save yourself the money, and don't buy the book though; get the code for the online homework instead.
TAKE HER!! Bakoo is such a great professor she really takes interest in the class and watches peoples faces to see if she's loosing people gives so much extra credit especially if it is asked for it SAVE YOUR MONEY DONT BUY THE TEXT BOOK do the MATHXL work you'll do great just make sure you study diligently until you get it IM HORRIBLE AT MATH
Bakoo is very nice ut what she teaches in class is basic compared to the hw which is harder. She gives both online and written hw. I havent had an exam yet to assess. TAs are somewhat helpful
wonderful human with a genuine love for the statistics and for students. she will go over tricky hw problems in class b4 hw is due if you ask. is liberal about hw if you have an emergency. hard to belive it but shes real...take her...you will work hard and love every minute because the class is great. organized blackboard and lectures, knowlegable
Bakoo was, by far, the most accommodating professor I have ever had. She understands the pressure her students are going through and is extremely helpful. She goes above and beyond to make sure that all of her students are understanding the material. And she is
Bakoo is an excellent professor and I would definitely recommend taking stats with her. The only thing that was annoying was the exams being like 75 questions, but to be fair they were 75 very easy questions, no tricks.
Might be one of the best professors at Stony Brook University. She is an outlier within the university, mainly because she genuinely cares about her students and wanting them to learn the material. The class however does require a lot of effort, mainly because of the amount of homework that is required but it helps your grade in the end.
It was an absolute delight to take her class. Lecture material was sometimes dry but she makes it easy to Understand. Only downside was the 8:30AM timeslot.
Arguably the best professor at SBU. She'll take the time to explain something many different ways until you understand. She's thorough, clear, and so kind. Obviously knowledgable but retains the ability to actually get down to your level and teach you. If you have to take stats then take it with her.
She's amazing ! I didnt pass the course but that was mostly my fault. She's helpful. Willing to stop class for just one student. She has office hours. I have to retake the course but I wont be taking it with her for personal reason. Not an easy class. A lot of memorization.
Professor Hagedorn is AMAZING. If you need to take Stats, TAKE THIS CLASS. She is extremely helpful and will give you every single opportunity to pass. It does require a good amount of effort, but if you do all of the homework, go to class, and attend TA office hours there is no way you won't do well in the course.
I barely showed up to class because the 8:30AM slot was horrible to get up for, and I still got an A in the class. You don't have to take notes because she provides them for you, but she goes over a ton of examples. Gets pretty long-winded. I learned just as much by myself as I did in class.
If you have to take a statistics course, definitely take it with Prof. Bakoo. She is amazing. She's so considerate of her students and truly wants them all to succeed. There is a lot of homework, but it's necessary for practice and to do well on exams. No textbook required. Gives a lot of extra credit. Go to TA hours with hw and you'll get an A.
Bakoo is handsdown one of my favorite professors at SB. She refuses to teach a new subject until everyone in the class understands the prior one and loves to answer questions. Bakoo is extremely helpful and so sweet! Also, if you're not into the whole lecture thing, she has her videos posted on youtube so you can literally skip class as you please.
All lectures are on bb but there's lecture if you want to go. Just go before every midterm for review. Hw on MathXl. Exams can throw curve balls in the wording but usually the 2nd parts are much easier and the final is easy if you've been keeping up. Oh, yea there's part 2 to every midterm. But after the 1st one you get a cheat sheet
Professor Hagedorn is definitely one of the most caring professors at Stony Brook. AMS 102 is an easy class as long as you have your graphing calculator. I would definitely recommend taking!!! She cares for your grade; as long as you do the practice exams, you will be fine.
She's a great professor, but if you're really bad at math, expect to spend a lot of time studying and rewatching her videos. I did poorly on the first two tests but saved it with passing the final. She's remarkable and really wants to help her students. She's patient and will stop the class for each student. Take 102 with her if you need it.
Bakoo is one of my favorite profs ever, shes so sweet. You don't have to go to her lectures because she posts them online and she also posts her notes online before class so you can just follow along. The second midterm and final you are allowed a cheat sheet and she will replace your final grade with a lower midterm grade! 100% recommend her!
I love Bakoo! She's such a laid back teacher. She always tried to give extra credit to help anyone who is doing bad. Be ready to print a lot of lecture notes and listen carefully in class. Also, if you miss class, you can watch her lecture videos online. She cares a lot about her students and is willing to work out ways to help your grade out.
Her last EC criteria: If you do well on the final, your worst test score gets a 10 point boost. There was a lot of homework for sure (do them), but that's just cuz Bakoo wants to make sure you do pass. Take advantage of other EC assignments, too. The material isn't as bad as Calc, but it does take rigorous practice to comprehend & pass Statistics.
She wants you to succeed and gives every chances to do so (extra credit, asks for your questions, easy homework, curves). You can also tell she loves math because she smiles a lot during lectures, and it's adorable.
Great professor. First time I ever felt in a class that there was really no dumb question. Her voice was very calming, and really gives you a lot of opportunities to boost your grade. She really goes above and beyond to make sure her students understand the concepts.
I really enjoyed her class. I'm a great math student, so it was a relatively easy A for me. There's two exams and a final. The final only covers the second half of the course, so it's not an overwhelming amount of material.
She is an amazing professor!!! She makes her lectures so clear and her exams are so easy. Makes it easy to get an A. Take this professor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot say enough great things about this woman! Incredible teacher, made the class as easy as possible while also teaching in an effective way. Her notes are very organized, goes very slowly in lectures and is very clear. Tons of extra credit options & you get note cards on exams often. Typically an 8 am which sucks, but she also records herself
Fantastic professor! Gives a lot of extra credit and is a very fair grader. Take her class if you have the chance.
She is hands down the best professor at Stony Brook. You do not have to study for the first half of the semester because she drops the first test if you do better on the second one and the final has no exam 1 material. I never went to class, I just watched the lectures before the exams. She does give a lot of hw, but also a lot of extra credit.
She is the best professor at Stony Brook. She's so caring and wants to make sure her students do well. There are never any surprises on the exam, so do the practice exams and you'll do well. She's the best!!
Bakoo is very kind and does care about her students. She understand you are human but dont take advantage of her kindness. She still assigns a hell of a lot of homework at the worst times during the semester. Honestly despite her being nice i DO NOT recommend this course at all. its way too much work and for a class that is just a requirment
She is soooooooo nice I love Bakoo she is an amazing teacher! Everything was so clear and she really cares about her students! You have to put effort into this course but you will earn a lot with this professor! I definitely recommend this course if you want to learn anything about statistics!
I didn't really like how the material was delivered by Bakoo. She definitely cares a lot about being clear, but I found the course to be a bit disorganized and confusing. That being said if you do all the homework and practice tests you'll do great on all the tests, you just have to work hard to really really understand the material.
She is so awesome! Class isn't hard, but still requires some effort. I did really poorly on the first two midterms and explained why I was struggling in the class but she gave me an opportunity to prove myself in the final and I managed to get a perfect score, and she gave me an A. She really cares about students and wants you to succeed.
Hard class, great teacher. If youll work hard you will get an A.
First off, very nice person. Evidently knows her stuff, and how to teach everything to students. She does your notes for you and prepares you for the test. Probably an Easy A if you put the proper work effort into the class, but I still did well. Only real problem is class time, but it is what it is. However, definitely wants students to do well.
Amazing lectures. Homework is 40% of whole grade, which means too much homework. About 20-30 question in a week. BUT!Test 3 days, each 50 mins with lots of questions, almost each question have (a)(b)(c) part. You don't have time to finish the test or check the answer. And you need to write the correct progress and correct answer to get full credit.
Prof Hagedorn helped me through a very difficult time. She is a smart and considerate Prof as well as a very fair person. She expects students to be responsible and active in the learning process b/c after all, lets face it, we aren't in grade school anymore. If you watch the lectures, do the homework and practice exams you will do very well.
I enjoyed learning the material b/c its very useful and interesting. Her exams are more than fair and, she provides plenty of practice exams to help you prepare. She is very supportive and the class is very well structured. You couldn't ask for a better Professor. If you are willing to apply yourself and do the work, you will do well.
The online homework looks like a lot, but really isn't that bad. The written hw is a bit much though in terms of time consumption, but she's really great about giving help. The tests are fair, and she won't ever really try to play any tricks on her tests. Also really cares about her students.
Aced her v. hard final. huge work load. hard, good for me because I need the practice. The exams are v hard, similar to practice exams. which is good practice if you are taking the FM exam. She is no-nonsense kind of profes who's lectures are totally awesome. Office hrs are tremendous, discussion, recommend this class only if stamina and hardwork
Bakoo is a teacher that cares for her students to do more than just take a course. She stresses understanding what you are doing, and gives plenty of opportunity to better yourself and keep up with the class. FM material is VERY demanding, so if you are not the type to spend more than the 6+ hours a week doing work, this is not the course for you.
The work load is a lot, so be prepared to put in the hours. However, she is probably the best stats teacher in SBU. I was failing the class in the beginning of the semester and managed to pass with a B. Definitely take her if you can
I truly LOVE professor Hagedorn !!! She is literally amazing and I would take her class over again. She gives lots of homework( Seriously ONLINE and WRITTEN). However, she is very understanding and fair. Her lectures were some of the best I've ever had. Her exams aren't too bad. Just do the HW and study and you will be fine !!
Yeah she does not teach for you to understand at all. Her class is more numbers than conceptual. You have to put in extra effort into learning so you can apply what you learn (on your own) to take her difficult tests.
This class is excellent and Prof. Hagedorn really prepares you well for her tests. She teaches you the concepts behind the stats and does enough practice problems in class that you should know how to do it all on the test as long as you pay attention. Watch the lectures, do the hw and all the practice tests she provides and you should be good!
She isn't a bad professor- it seemed like she knew what she was doing. The problem lied with me trying to understand statistics than Bakoo's teaching of statistics. I didn't have any background in statistics, I think that would have helped in the long run. If you want to take the class, do all the homework and attend every single class.
The bottom review (the one where I said I didn't understand statistics, the one below this review) didn't state when I took the course. I took the course in Fall 2016. I didn't want to mislead anyone into thinking I took the course currently.
She goes into the theory of the material that is not even being tested, non math majors simply dont care, I just want to know how to solve the problems. We are allowed to use Ti84 but still teaches us the full formulas. in addition, it was simply the most boring class ive ever attended in my life. take a different teacher or different school
Bakoo is the kindest most caring professor. Her Priority is the student. responded to emails within 2 hours all semester complete explanations every time. Never met a more devoted teacher. Is experienced, encourages learning and understanding , behaves with grace , has the patience of a saint. Highly recommend if youre lookin to learn somethin
Prof Bakoo expects hard work, gives hard exams but prepares you with tons of solved review problems and serious class notes. I was in trouble, sought help and she saw me through my problems on her own time a few times. She had my back. This material will kill you. Its so hard but shes a gem, just reach out early. Awesome humble and helpful!
Professor Hagedorn goes over lecture material very quickly so make sure to pay attention in class. She posts multiple homework ahead of time. There are only 3 exams (including the final) and she also gives extra credit homework. She allows you to bring a single flash card with your notes on the 2nd midterm and the final.
She is a nice person. Nonetheless, her class is so bad. Did all I couldve done (read the textbooks, watch all her lectures twice, do all the practice questions she gave, did all the hw by myself, go to TA office hour) but still end up bombing the exam. Dont take their class if you want to save your gpa.
It was awesome learning from her and dealing with her. The work load was tremendous. HW intense. Exams hard but fair, grading was generous. The journey arduous nevertheless. Ask questions, she emails you back the same day! Excellent teacher. Complete notes, hw solution and explanations provided. Impressive. Hardest class ever at SBU
Fell severely ill while taking her class, she is so accommodating and approachable. She will go above and beyond if you don't understand something. Very good professor, would recommend.
I took AMS 102 as a winter course with this prof. My actual test/homework scores earned me a B+ but prof. Hagedorn gave me an A-. The content she provides is very detailed/organized. Theres nothing on an exam/quiz/hmwk you wont go over prior in class. She give extra credit and even goes over it before hand so you understand how to do it. AMAZING!
I took this class online in fall 2019 and it wasn't too bad. Just had to watch youtube lectures and submit homework assignments through blackboard. TAs held study sessions for exam. I met her in person once and she was very nice and wanted the best for her students, she does curve if you dont do too well
After reading comments from Class Evals I had to come over here and say something. The fact that so many students got an F in her course is so shocking to me. I took the class without knowing that and I thought 90% of the students will get an A. Super easy class if you actually spend time understanding everything instead of rushing to finish them
I would never take this prof again. Her lectures are long, confusing and boring. I took it online but she was so rude to her students and she talks to them like they're stupid. There is an absurd amount of homework and the tests are way harder than they need to be. I repeat DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Good Professor, shes very sweet. I recommend her, very helpful when needed.
Great experience taking this class with her. I have a disability. She helped me from the first day, very caring and helpful. Recommend her highly. exams are hard, but she tries hard to bring the stats to life and prepares you well for tests. extends deadlines, not a hardass. highly recommend.
This was a great class. As long as you do the homework and all the in class problems you will be fine. There are 2 midterms and a final. Make sure you learn your definitions. Study the pretests as well and watch all the lecture videos. Definitely go to office hours if you dont understand something.
Absolutely horrible. Do not take this class if she is the professor. She assumes that we know calculus, why should we know calculus in a statistics class? The hardest math I took before this class was precalc, and that barely had any actual calc in it. She gives us youtube videos of past lectures and theyre horrible. She is a terrible professor.
She's a nice professor I won't lie, but with this class being online I can honestly say that she put in minimal effort, gave us recorded lecture videos expecting us to know calculus without actually going over how to do certain problems using calculus. She gives a lot of homework and it is definitely tough.
Professor Hagedorn is literally the most understanding person in the world. She makes her lectures so interesting even if they are recorded. I didn't really have a passion for AMS but after taking this class with her, I found myself genuinely interested in the subject matter. Strongly recommend!
She is nice however, given that this class was online minimal effort was put in her part. I would advise to never take this course online especially with her. I was hopeful at first up until first exam. Unbelievable hard for no reason. She expects a lot and it's simply a shame that you have to depend on teaching yourself things.
she's got clear lectures and clear expectations. and teach you whatever you need in office hours. Always attend. I watch the lecture videos at my convenience. Exams are long but they are just like the review problems and the extra credit. If you don't understand something she will explain it until you do. Multiple reviews, cares about students.
The class is mad easy, just do what your supposed to and grab an A-. Bakoo is a good professor but doesnt dumb it down. She will throw in some interesting things and you can pick them up or disregard them. Easy 3 credits. Long exams. Take this course with her and learn some math. Recommend!
This class is a lot of work, but she's nice and understanding. Specific things you need to know for exams. I wish the lectures were more recent and live, since it's asynchronous things are a bit confusing.
I took AMS102 w Bakoo twice. first time was live class, I slack and fail. The second time online. I go her office hour (she v. kind) even knowing my previous history. She gave lots of practice before the exams and if you will try hard, she gave so many chances for passing. More extra help, cares than other profs at SBU. hard course, great lady.
This class is completely asynchronous with pre-recorded hour lectures you have to watch. She gives a ton of opportunities for office ours with her or TAs. Her tests are very tough, though, and you need to know exactly what youre doing to do even remotely well. Gives opportunities for extra credit/retakes though!
I only came to this website because, in one of her lectures, Bakoo (who openly announced in one of her lectures that she is in her 60s) made a correction on the misuse of language when "gender" was used to refer to the sex of a baby. Without attempting to appeal to anyone, she stated that "babies don't have gender." Also she's a great teacher lol
Professor Hagedorn has to be one of the best math professors I have ever had. She gave us all the resources we needed to succeed ie video lectures and practice problems. She held extra help sessions for our exams to help us and also gave extra credit. If you can take her, do it. She wants you to do well and is very helpful and patient.
She's a nice professor but there is A LOT of material she covers and she makes you print out notes she uploads online and follow along. Except the notes are very confusing and she moves fast. I had to do a lot of self studying to stay on top of the work. Overall there is VERY MUCH homework and you can't slack off in this class for a good grade.
There are a lot of lectures and clear notes so as long as you go through those the class is pretty straightforward. She is also very nice and lenient and holds office hours/extra help sessions if needed. This class is great
Hagedorn is beyond a lovely woman, a delight in office hours who is more than willing to help you. She is always welcoming of her students to ask questions. The course itself has a lot of hw but that's not her fault because there are a lot of topics. You have to stay on top of the lectures or you will fall behind. Extra credit is also given.
This professor honestly sucks. Avoid at all costs. The class bb is very unorganized and there is a lot of material covered at a very fast pace. You have to watch prerecorded lectures that she taught to ANOTHER class and learn based on them. Plus, you have to purchase hw access and a calculator so this class is unnecessarily difficult AND expensive.
This was the worst class I have ever taken. I put hours upon hours into this course and I have failed every exam so far with like 40s. Her exams are nothing like the online homework you practice with. Never again will I take her.
She is so sweet, and really wants you to succeed. She definitely goes fast with the material, but if you keep up with the lectures it's pretty reasonable. Lots of assignments and office hours are really helpful. Reach out for help if you need it, and she'll really give you a hand.
As someone who is really bad at math, this class sucked for me. I could barely understand the lectures and exams were way harder than the homework. But the professor is super nice. You can tell she actually cares about her students so she gives lots of chances and helps us out. Put in effort and even if your scores arent high you'll still pass.
Wow, Stricken by her patience and her kindness for math challenged students like myself. tough exams so put in the time, but rewards are great. Exams like the pretests, So welcoming in office hours and Sunday reviews, works hard to engage you happily, wonderful professor who cares deeply for students. She brings Stats to life. respect beyond words
Worst exam policy ever. Using respondus lockdown browser and zoom meeting at the same time. She is assuming that everyone has a tripod. She requires showing everything at the same time.
Professor Hagedorn is awesome! This class was online asynchronous with lecture videos from 2019, and it was still very engaging. I'm not really a math person but she made statistics interesting and fun. Tests are just like the homework and practice exams. Extra credit is given. Professor Hagedorn always hosts review sessions too. She's very caring.
I had about 5 breakdowns during finals bc of this class. The Blackboard is disorganized and the textbook is expensive. But she's sweet, caring and always willing to help. She made it possible for me to succeed. If I needed to take another math class, I'd cry, but I'd also be happy to have her as my teacher.
Easy Class, make sure to keep up on lectures and do review or you won't do well on the exams. A lot of people don't study for 1st but there is always a curve to work it out for 2nd. All lectures pre-recorded, a little annoying but manageable, just make sure to watch them. HW is easy. Solid online class, but lack of agency leads to bad test grade
She is delightful, knowledgeable, and funny at times. Stats are not my cup of tea, but she taught it excitingly. She gives many opportunities to bring your grade up, seek extra help, and voice concerns. The only thing I would want is more opportunities to have group work.
Professor Hagedorn had many easy to understand pre-recorded lectures and help many extra helps in the same easy manor. Not too much homework and homework easy to understand. However, some online homework costs $75 to get an access code to so keep that in mind. If the access cost isnt an issue to you, she is a great professor.
Gem of a teacher; took this class last semester and was only really prevented from getting more than a B+ by myself. Very lenient gives students lots of chances to do well.
This class was a terrible experience. Despite being listed as synchronous on solar when I registered, for some reason the entire course was asynchronous. This was a terrible decision for a stats course. I kid you not, the professor's way of teaching was either choppy youtube videos or uncomfortably long extra credit recordings. Would not recommend
Hagedorn goes out of her way to ensure that every student understands the material. she genuinely wants everyone to pass. I do wish that the tests and online assignments were shorter though. I recommend doing all the pearson assignments at the beginning of the semester so you don't have to pay for pearson! It will take long, but it's worth it!
Professor: unique, kind, knows stats cold, patient and super-kind. Exemplary, clear note, clear videos, practice examples, reviews great. always chipper never rude, records discussion so reference later, Tests Super Long,,but fair, many prac problems, e-text 80 doll. Had terrible SARS-covid-2 and she gave many helps, I will TA for her recom letter
This class is very easy, She's very lenient overall with grading and has office hours several times a week if you're having trouble.
I love Professor Hagedorn. She gives you everything you need to succeed and is just the sweetest human being alive. It's like the meme "if anything goes wrong, it's on me". If you mess up this class, chief that's on you because Prof. Hagedorn is an absolute godsend.
The way the professor's blackboard is set up is terrible and I had so many breakdowns over this class because she posts everything at once. This class was made so much harder than it needed to be and all the materials needed to be updated earlier. For me personally, I never had a problem with math, but this class was a complete nightmare.
Professor Hagedorn is extremely caring and understanding with all of her students. She really cares about teaching and helping her students to do well in the course. The course provides a lot of opportunities (extra credit) to help you achieve a better grade. Also, Professor Hagedorn and the TAs are readily available to help you outside of class.
Professor Hagedorn is a very caring professor. She really looks out for students and you can tell she wants you to get the best grade possible.
Professor Bakoo was great Spring 2022. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities and lets you make up for poor tests scores on the following exams. You are given weeks to complete online homework assignments which supplement the course well.
The thing I disliked the most about this class was the blackboard and how disorganized it was. I wish she updated the videos before the week we needed to do them and she was more clear in the videos. I personally did not like this way of learning and I found it really frustrating. Basically taught myself the course.
There is a lot of written HW for the class. Professor made the class Asynch even though it was listed as Synch. I wish we were given this information before I signed up for the class. I did not like blackboard's setup. Professor Hagedorn is not a bad teacher but I really disliked the set up for this course and the way she went about teaching it.
Prof Bakoo is amazing! always here to help you but if you don't put the time in you could fail. Exams are just like review problems, and she guides you to success .Her course is part sync and part async, I love it bc you can view videos when you want, then shes always available to help,. very patient and considerate, so ask.! wonderful expierience
This class was listed as sync but it was basically async which honestly was fine with me. She gives out homework pretty often and it's a decently multi-paged amount, but you do get time to complete it. As for lectures, she spoke slow and it's a little disorganized but if you really try, it's not too bad. The test was pretty hard tho, ngl.
this class is a nightmare. The professor uses old lecture videos to teach the class. It's synchronous but you do it on your own. Looking at the way the notes are set up I get headaches. She gives a lot of homework and I emailed her about a problem I had and she told me to email my TA. There are like five different TAs for the class.
One of the most caring professors. On the first day, she mentioned that all she wants is to watch her students pass and that's exactly what she tries to do. She would always answer a question during a zoom call, she would always be sure to give us enough material to fully prepare us for the exams. She also does give out easy extra credit.
Lecture and Pre-made videos are detailed and clear. Lenient on grading. Many lecture pages to print if you prefer to view through paper, but they're annotated already so that's a plus. Have to purchase Pearson though, but those online assignments are fairly easy and quick to do; they will boost your grade up as well, if you don't do well on tests.
Horrible. Assigns way too much homework. Zoom lectures are pointless. If you have other difficult classes do not take with this one. For an intro to Statistics course this class goes way beyond just being intro. Class was a waste of brainpower. Bakoo is not a good professor. Exams are eighty questions long which is ridiculous for an intro class.
Professor Hagedorn really cared about her students. She would constantly extend the dates of things because students were being bombarded with work in other classes. She is an amazing teacher and her class was definitely enjoyable. The homework's were not difficult just make sure you stay on top of the Pearson assignments!
I didn't learn anything about statistics in this course. For an Intro, to Statistics course, it was so much work. The three-hour exam and 80 questions were really difficult. The Pearson assignments were a lot, and I didn't bother watching the Zoom lectures because the professor didn't teach well at all. Please don't take this professor!!
took but don't recommend as a winter course. the material itself isn't hard and prof is rly understanding/teaches well but the pace is much too fast. i got an a but this is actly 2 weeks of straight stress grinding. 4.0 gpa, never been bad at math, but 2.5 weeks is too little to learn the material. cheatsheets allowed + 7pts ec on 1 test offered
Async class. Her meeting times were similar to how office hours are run. If you watch the videos and do practice questions, you'll definitely able to succeed. Also offered ways to boost your grade if you had a poor first exam.
The professor is definitely nice and understanding in terms of extending deadlines and helping you in class but the class should just be asynchronous. Attending class is kinda pointless unless you have a question for her as class is basically like attending office hours. There's a lot of work but if you try and watch her videos you should do well.
You are expected to put aside time for 3 hour lectures since the actual lecture time is actually an extra help session. I did not miss a single one and still had to teach myself the entire course. Weekly assignments are a lot along with long assignments you are given the due date of months in advance so you need to space them out on top of that.
It's an easy class but the way she teaches can be confusing and there's a good amount of homework to do. I don't recommend this class despite the good rating, it was confusing and took up a little too much of my time.
Asynch class: there is a lot of work in this class, but Professor Hagedorn makes it very easy to do well. Extra credit opportunities, the chance to maximize homework grades, and the expectations for the exams are very clear. Awesome professor
I didn't like probability or statistics before this course, but I enjoyed her lectures and got really interested in stats. Her lectures were always thorough with a lot of details. She put in a lot of time and effort, so students would learn. Even though there was a lot of homework, if you put in the time you will get a good grade.
There were extra credit assignments. All of the recorded lectures were helpful. There were several practice exams and exam reviews available. Office hours are available throughout the day. The professor is always willing to help and clarify any questions you may have. Great professor!
she is amazing!
prof hagedorn's voice is like asmr almost fell asleep during lectures lmao. but fr she puts in lots of effort to make sure people get the material, but the class is essentially learn-on-your-own. hours of online videos to watch and take notes on weekly (she does provide note for you). ask questions, go to office hours and study, youll be fine!
Amazing professor! There is a lot of work in this class and the homework is too long, but if you attend and keep up with the work on time, you will do well in this class. She explains everything so well and goes over things multiple times when you ask her. She always makes sure that everyone understands. Also, she gives extra credit opportunities.
I took this class Fall 2023, and for the most part it wasn't bad. Though you should be prepare to really study if you aren't strong in probability or statistics and attend as many lectures as you can. She puts in a lot of time for her students (like holding optional review sessions before exams), and giving extra credit opportunities.
One of the most caring and easy professors I've had. Makes it super easy to succeed in AMS 102, with tons of extra credit and ways to boost poor exam grades, also allowing cheat sheets on every exam
Honestly this class was very time consuming and difficult to follow for an online class, I could see how it would be easier as an in person class over a long period of time. I thought it was a lot of material crammed into a short amount of time and explained in more confusing ways then it needed to be. Spent like 4-5 hours everyday for the summer.
Professor Hagedorn provides lots of extra credit and ways to boost grades. The class can be learn-on-your-own, but studying with unstuckstudy AI and going to optional review sessions helps a lot.
AMS 318 w/ her is rough online. Her lecture notes are a complete mess, so good luck finding what ur looking for. This professor expects you to solve problems that follow her specific formulas. If you do not follow her closely, you will mess up interpreting the problem and do badly on the midterm. Regular financial math knowledge won't cut it.
There were three exams, weekly long lecture videos to watch, weekly zoom lectures where you can ask questions, and multiple written hw's/extra credit assignments. But this evens out your test grades, which I love since I'm not the best at math. I was able to juggle the workload well, but it can be a lot for some. Professor wanted us to succeed :).
This class was a bit much for a 100-level in my opinion. She admits the second half of the material is calculator commands, yet still makes you write out the entire steps on the written homework---despite the tests being 100% multiple choice. She's not the worst, not the best either. Luckily the curve in this class is insane.
Bakoo's very kind and EXTREMLY patient but the material itself was really hard for me. I'm not sure why, I did a lot of studying and went to office hours but none of the material makes intuitive sense. So, I do like her as a professor and a person, but I wouldn't take her classes again. Her lectures are sleep inducing too btw lol
I struggled a lot with this course but Professor Hagedorn was super sweet and caring while taking AMS102 that I do 100% recommend her for the class. I'm not a math minded person yet despite that I was able to pass because of her kind forgiving policies.
I felt like I was drowning the whole class. If you get 100% on all the homework it's okay if you get around 60 on the exams (65 av. is C+). She's a nice person and will answers questions. If you're not good at teaching yourself math I don't recommend. There were optional meetings where new material was taught. Also, extra credit!
If you struggle to focus with online classes, do not take. If you don't, highly recommend taking. Attendance not taken, but don't skip the Zooms; it's easy to fall behind. There is a ton of material, but she sets you up to succeed. Cheat sheet on each exam, open-note final, big curve. Doing well on HW will help even if your exams don't go well!
extra credit opportunities saved my grade. too many lecture vids to watch which made me drown preparing for mid and finals. the TA was really nice and helpful. Don't think that it's easy. Prof is okay.
I took ams318 over the winter and there was a lot to do in so little time. Prof Hagedorn definitely did the best she could with the time we had. I did find myself struggling with the content because even if I did all the practice material I would still forget or slip up in the midterm and final and that would cost me a lot of points.
bakoo really wants her students to pass. there was a lot of pearson hw in addition to the weekly hw, and lecture vids that u must watch to come in w questions during class time. there was a generous grading system and extra credit, but this course had a lot of work, and she's not on campus so class should have been in person.
Professor Hagedorn is extremely generous with her grading and in her teaching of the material. She truly cares whether or not you understand the material. That said, it is VERY EASY to fall behind and you need to dedicate time to understanding it. Overall, I highly recommend.
I only joined the online class on the first day since attendance was never mandatory, and right away I could tell she was a great professor with a likable personality. The course is asynchronous so if you are able to work at your own pace you'll be fine. Its genuinely hard to fail as she gives extra credit, and will drop a poor exam grade if needed
you have to watch the videos she posts bc she just goes over questions during her online zoom time. the exam is fair, and hw is graded off accuracy.
Very nice and understanding instructor. She extended exam dates to accommodate students and granted extensions frequently. Super lenient and effective. There is lots of extra credit and ways to improve your score if you did poorly on an exam. Grade cutoffs are generous. Only critique is that the pre-recorded lectures are really long/hard to watch.
the single worst professor ive ever had. grading is unclear, homework due dates are often moved around, she is dismissive of student questions, and is just generally uncooperative of working with students to make sure they understand the material. if you dont want to teach the subject to yourself, go to any other professors lectures.
extremely gentle and kind prof, so I highly recommend. often postpones homework due dates if we are overwhelmed offers extra help too. She gave me her calculator to use because I could not afford to buy one.obvious that she loves teaching. Posts many review problems for practice.A lot of material but you won't find a better or more caring prof.
Course was an overload of material. Way too many explanations for one topic to the point where the content made no sense. Be ready to do lots of homework.
You are supposed to watch videos before class, class time is spent going over questions and sometimes future homework problems. I never watched the videos because they were at times 2x as long as a class, and i skated by but i was stressed out the whole time. do the extra credit, "written" HW is graded for accuracy. wouldn't recommend.
We were expected to watch 5-10 hours of pre-recorded lectures weekly - with weekly homeworks, ranging from 1 page to 8 pages, questions for class, and review notes. In actual zoom lectures, she went over practice problems expected to be done beforehand. She is very nice and considerate and gives extensions, but lectures were useless for me.
Class is mostly asynchronous, but can follow along with some practice problems live during the meeting times, too. A lot of work; can be hard to keep up with a busy schedule. 3 exams (w cheat sheet), no final. No note-taking required. All material lectures are prerecorded and posted from the start, along with notes. Very caring, helpful, responsive
