Professor Borgi is polite but very shy. I found I had to teach myself most of the material. Overall not a difficult class but not very helpful either. If you do your work and teach yourself you'll probably do well.
If algebra 2 is an easy subject for you than you have nothing to worry about, but if you struggle in the class then stay away! he makes simple concepts difficult he doesnt stick to syllabus, he uses the text in class so make sure you have one. His quizzes are pretty easy though.
Class was rather easy for the most part. The hardest part is understanding what he has to say. If you want to learn anything you are probably better off using mymathlab and studying from that.
he can be hard to understand at times. but he is a great teacher. He can be helpful when taking quizes and tests. I am not that good at algebra but with him I was able to pass
I honestly wouldn't show up to class but I care about my grades and so does Professor Borgi. He always asks, "If you don't understand please tell me and I will go over it again." He's helpful and nice, good humor too! He does have an accent but you get used to it after the first few classes. Online homework required. I would go to him again.
As a person wonderful, polite and shy. but being a professor hard to understand he wants help the student but some time it hard to understand his concept. never rufuse to help student. during problem solving he pass the steps which made me confuse. strongly recomended only those students who are good in math
Awesome teacher very nice and just an all around awesome guy.Take him.
Class is a mix of non-college prep, military and professionals. His style confuses the rising NCP crowd, challenges the military TA crowd, and bores the I need a refresher crowd. Not recommended.
This class is a self teach math class, attendance is mandatory but you can work on it at home. Pro. Borgi is so laid back and nice. Even though the class is a self teach class, pro. borgi is always willing to help you with anything if you ask, he is very knowledgeable and he will work through every problem with you until you understand.
Only covered 60% of the curriculum. Feel sorry for someone going from his class to real college linear algebra or calculus class! Doubt I can recover 2 of the five credits the university charged me for this watered down class.
He is very difficult to understand because of his accent. Sometimes he has to correct his own simple math. He is a nice guy, and tries to be helpful but the language barrier is a huge setback!
HE IS VERY NICE PROFFESOR
I don't want to slam his accent but it was difficult to understand him. He had a bit of an attitude with students and issues with the organization of his syllabus. His class was okay.. You got the gist of what he was saying and wanted. Not very understanding or helpful.
Real nice, show him respect and he'll respect you back. Willing to help.
He was fairly easy and pretty helpful if you asked. He does expect respect so pay attention or he can get pretty upset
Accent is a little heavy and sometimes he won't understand your question fully. but the class is very chill. the homework and tests are not long and easy. we use the textbook a few times. He will help you if you ask. he is a nice teacher
I have never had a professor that cared so little about student success. I spent 10 hours a week & 200 dollars on a tutor for this class just to get a C & I have never gotten anything below a B at NVCC before. His accent is hard to understand and he flies through the material just to get it done. I had to teach myself this class, don't take him!
He was incredibly difficult to understand, and he isn't receptive to people not understanding the material. He would consistently tell us that if we didn't understand we could learn it in the textbook. He rushed through the material trying to cram it all in and I had to teach most of it to myself. Very hard class, I would not recommend taking him.
his accent is so heavy that it's almost impossible to understand him, and he rushed through everything so fast that i ended up spending countless hours teaching it to myself. i wouldn't recommend taking him, teaching this class was definitely not his first priority.
His accent makes it a little hard to understand him. He really does want to help, but the way he teaches makes it hard for him to do so. His lectures are really boring, and it's one of those classes where you can't wait to leave. Take him only if math comes easy to you, and you won't need help. Otherwise, try taking a different professor.
I had such a difficult time understanding him. He does not post grades on blackboard at all and gives pop quizzes which he will not let you make up. He only gave 2 and I missed 1. I only knew my homework grade and one exam grade for the entire semester and only learned my final grade and when final grades were posted. I would not recommend him.
Yes, he has an accent but it is absolutely comprehendible, so no complains on this matter. I really enjoyed his lectures, he explains everything very clear. After his lectures, without even opening the book, I was able to do my homework. He posts exactly similar quizzes, tests, and exam on the blackboard, so you can practice and ask him questions.
If you have already taken higher math courses and just need this class for the credits, you might be able to risk it. EVERYONE ELSE, STAY AWAY! His accent is so thick that I couldn't understand a single thing he was saying. It sounded like he was speaking a foreign language. BEWARE THIS TEACHER
Horrible teacher
I just took the 8 wk. Calculus class and it's challenging by nature. I read the reviews before taking this class and was worried. However, some of the reviews are unfair to Prof. Borgi and I think they use his accent as an excuse for doing poorly. He was easy to understand and would help you if you need it. To one review, tutoring at NOVA is free.
I recently took back to back semesters of MTH 163 and MTH 271 with Professor Borgi and he is a phenomenal teacher. I am 33 years old, have not done math in 15 years and was able to jump into his classes and pick up where I left off. It's a college class so do not expect him to hold your hand, but if you ask for help he will be available.
Thick accent, but easy to understand. I think it actually helped me pay closer attention. Responds quickly to email, and is flexible on homework deadlines. Class is VERY challenging in nature, I barley passed. Pretty much my grade was based off 3 test scores. Does NOT use blackboard.
He openly stated that he hated us during class, he even expressed his hate for us in an equation on the board.
Dont miss any class or you might miss a quiz that cant me madeup. Watch mymathlab for added homework that isn't on the syllabus. Do not even whisper to your neighbor or he'll get mad. If you are very respectful during class he'll let you makeup missed homework if you ask him. Accent makes it somewhat difficult to understand.
His accent does take some getting use to. There is no retakes for tests. Doesn't answer or go over homework and tests in class. To get help you have to go to office hours. If you do good on tests then you will pass the class easily. He might be late on final exam day. Not the best professor.
Very versed in Math, some just cannot convey information well. Teaches through Power point-which he regurgitates, you do not have access to it! All homework is on Math lab-he does NOT go over it- make sure you do it! Teaching style is a bit muddled. Concentrates on getting thru material not understanding, Will teach future ch before each test/quiz.
IF You read this message it clearly means never ever take his class. He is the worst professor ever. Everything, is taught through power point and his accent is the worst thing ever. He has never discussed homework and never bothered to give extra credit work.
He is a very knowledgeable professor but doesn't convey the material as best as he could. Please do not waste your money with this professor, unless you self teach well he isn't the teacher for you.
Professor Borgi obviously knows what hes teaching, he just has an odd style. He genuinely wants us to succeed, and his trying his best, it just doesn't work for every student. A very quiet, kind of shy, but overall nice man. I think I said less than 20 words to him the whole time I had him. Do the hw and the class activity and you'll pass!
Professor Borgi likes to rush through PowerPoints and doesnt really explain what he is doing. He didnt put any grades in blackboard so I had no idea what I had in the class. Doing the online homework helped a lot though. It also took awhile to get used to his accent.
Thick accent so it was hard to understand him. Things were rushed and he did not go over class activities to make sure we understood the material.
He's a great guy and cares for everyone, wants to make sure you learn and pass the class. if you ask for help he shows you step by step how to do it. highly recommend taking him
put it this way. i learned what my grade was through my transcripts. didn't use BB and any time you asked your grade he would tell you to average it out based on your scores. MAYbe it was just me but the homework and what we learned in class didn't accurately portray the questions in the test. i feel the test questions had extra steps to it.
This professor does not know how to teach. He has a HEAVY accent. He speeds through his powerpoints fast. He quizzes us almost every class after we literally just learned it. And he stares so much at people he dislikes which is annoying. Just overall, TERRIBLE. even made me give up my major.
Balcha Borgi is the worst teacher I have ever had. You hear about the horror stories of professors putting things on the final that they never taught, and you think it will never happen to you. It's just too absurd. And then it happens. Professor Balcha Borgi assigned a pop quiz, where I, scoring #3 in the class, got 75%. Take anyone else's class.
Professor Borgi is a good choice. He wants you to succeed and if you put in the effort to learn the material and meet with him when you're confused, he'll be understanding and maybe even throw in a grade change :) Super smart and caring guy. He does have a pretty thick accent but it really is no big deal. I definitely recommend!
Professor Borgi is very intelligent, he just doesnt know exactly how to break things down for students to understand. He is very straight forward and does not tolerate disruptions in his class. If you do all your homework & get high grades on quizzes your grade will be better. Lots of practice outside of class is required. 3 tests 1 final.
He definitely knows the material but sometimes its a bit hard to follow along with the way he teaches. Please ask questions or ask to see him during office hours because he is SO willing to help. Do the homework and attend classes. The study guides are basically the test and he goes over them in class. Please don't let the bad reviews discourage u
I have never almost cried in a Professor lecture before. I have had bad professors before but nothing like this. He knows his material well but DOES NOT know how to teach it and you cannot you calculator on quizzes also he makes you memorize formulas. His class makes me not wanna wear my seat belt while driving so I can die on my way to class.
This class went by so smoothly because his lectures were easy to follow. He is very caring and wants every student to pass! If you need help, he is available outside of class. I really enjoyed this class, defiantly my favorite math class I took at NOVA.
A complete legend, for starters this man helps you and posts reviews after the units to help you refresh and understand. There is a link between homework and test. This is the way. Expect to hear from me by august again, Il write a review on how he becomes more of a hero...
I don't know why he has such a bad rating! He gives study guides that are pretty much the exact exam just different numbers,He gives some open note quizzes so make sure you write down literally everything! i took him for MTH 161-162 and he also gives test corrections if you don't do well on exams! Ask him for test corrections! he wants you to pass
VERY good class.
It is one of the best class that I got so far.
The hardest class made even more difficult by the professor who takes his method of teaching way too harsh! I think he should take it a little easy & at the same time help and guide those in need without being such a (u know what I mean) This is the last math class for most people so I think he should change his approach so he can be remembered....
I don't understand why people rate him so low. He is such a sweetheart. If you're lazy you probably won't do well in this class. His study guides are almost exactly like the test so if you do them, you pass. He made math make sense!
He is honestly such a great professor, please do not let his ratings discourage you from taking him. He always explains things and will ask if anyone needs clarification, please ask if you do need it because he is so willing to help. Do the study guides and you will 100% pass the class, they are very very similar!
having Professor Balcha Borgi as an online professor makes it so much worse. he relies all his work on Aleks and doesn't care about your grade. you'll have one module and a quiz due at the end of every week and also not to mention but he reads straight from a textbook that you have complete access too and also teach really fast. I DONT RECOMMEND.
**online school due to covid** all he does is read from / go through the textbook whenever we show up to class and got mad at the class when we expressed how we didn't like his teaching methods. doesnt make his own quizzes and depends on the website, doesn't use canvas at all. wouldn't recommend this prof to anyone if they want a good education
Your main task is to teach yourself. Don't expect any help from him and god forbid you ask any questions, he'll just tell you to stop complaining. All work is done through Aleks, an online textbook. He doesn't make any of the learning material or quizzes. If I could get my credits through just Aleks I'd only pay for Aleks and not the class.
Everything was done online, he rushes through all the material and expects you to know it. If you ask a question he will rush through that then tell you to pay attention if you don't get it or just repeat himself. He does not make the quizzes or tests for the most part, and grading is automatic. There is no chance to appeal. Went from high A to C.
He tells students to ask questions but gets mad when a student is confused. He reads off from the textbook word for word for 3 hrs. He put in the syllabus that attendance isnt graded but suddenly started taking attendance & gave most people 0 for not having their cameras on. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I got an A just cause it was on ALEKS. RUDE& MESSY
He demands participation in lectures, and won't humor any question that he thinks is unnecessary. His lectures for any given week are over the material from the week prior, which makes learning the material for the current week, and completing all of the homework on time, extremely difficult. VERY smart guy, but would not recommend for a beginner.
Attended class, professor lectures were hard as ever, he depended too much on the ALEKS which is the online website which is used throughout the math class. Doesn't understand the student's needs. Does not email students to ask why they are not showing up to class. WORST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Proffessor Bolgi's class was tough but rewarding. I feel very prepared to take higher up math classes and transition to Calculus classes. I would say take him if you want to actually learn the material and prepare yourself for higher level classes.
So hard to contact outside of class. Is sometimes unclear and has mood swings or something because sometimes he'd make students feel bad for having questions. And since he's not clear the first time, too many clarification questions visibly annoy him. If you can, take another prof, if not, oh well, you'll survive. Mathway is your bff in online math
If you have your camera off, he will mark you absent. He did not say anything in the beginning of the semester, after 2 weeks of class, he was suddenly upset with all the students with camera off. DO NOT take him, you will fail not because you don't do your work, but because you don't turn your camera on.
I didnt enjoy his class he relies on Aleks for everything. I wish I could follow his teaching methods but there is no teaching, you teach yourself using Aleks and doesnt grade anything so you dont know your grade until the end of the course. Do not take a course with this teacher.
He relies on the ALEKS software for everything and test questions would have multiple parts to it, if you got 1/8 parts wrong the whole question was wrong--stetting us up for failure. I barely passed and it was only because tests were open book. His lectures were him reading out the textbook and you had to teach yourself the material.
Borgi was really difficult to understand. Every lecture was him just reading off the textbook. He makes you do the work thinking you already know it. He makes you feel dumb and say a lot comment he shouldn't say. he laughs when you don't answer him. He hardly replies to emails and makes you do double the work for homework. He does give 2nd chances
Professor Borgi seems very kind and patient, although he did not always reply to my emails. You will have to allocate a lot of time for the class because of how much homework and course material there is.
The prof. is smart but sometimes doesnt explain math well. Very homework heavy, expect 100-150 questions on ALEKS every 2-3 days. He teaches 1 way in the lectures & ALEKS reteaches everything during your HW. 50/50 chance he wont respond to an email, send another if he doesnt. Has office hours & willing to help if you ask him to
Yells at students. very short temper and seems to get frustrated and overwhelmed when someone doesn't understand something. Accent is very hard to understand almost impossible to follow his lectures. This is the 2nd professor I have taken for MTH 261 and I cannot understand either of them. For a class of this difficulty, an accent harder to learn
I went into this class holding onto the 2 good reviews he had. Terrible mistake on my part. He is EXTREMELY short tempered. Screams at the class daily. Tests are 10x harder than the study guide and theyre 25 questions with 1hr&30min to complete. Tests are done using mymathlab & he doesnt grade them himself so its harder to gain points back.
Very disorganized. Never made reminders for students. Hard to understand. Takes forever to let me into the class. Doesnt ever look at chat.
His accent is an issue. He teaches good but aleks is the one who teaches you more. Lots of homework. He does give extensions but if you email him. He is not good at communication. Tests can be done in class online i mean on your laptop but you can do on paper as well
He is very soft spoken and I found it very difficult to understand him. He teaches extremely fast and makes comments like, "this is clearly the answer", "guys this is easy", "obviously this is correct." It discourages students from asking questions and most of the topics he was teaching was far from easy. An egregious amount of homework and 3 tests
Tough Prof, gets flustered to easily and expects you to know everything. If you're not good in math or rely on a calculator too often, his class is not for you. Alek's is going to be really helpful in teaching you. He's very straightforward but if a Prof. has to say that he hopes everyone at least get a C in his class. That's a red flag.
His interaction in the online class was kept to a minimum and it was strictly textbook reading. He provided a lot of homework to learn the material and a study guide before exams. Biggest issue was that the study guides usually only hit one question that would be on the exam and he pulled content from units at start of course for exam.
He expects you to know things before you learn them, is a very strict professor overall, and couldn't care less about your grade or helping you.
In my opinion, he is okay. Just do your homework & module every week and you should be fine. Tests aren't hard, they are similar to homework he assigns. The only thing I dispice about the class is the participation. He gets mad and complains EVERY CLASS about how students don't constantly participate. He wants students to instantly understand topic
Tests are cumulative and extremely detailed. You are expected to remember every detail about everything you have learned so far in class. Week 7 test had more from week 2 than it did from 7. Study guides are 100% useless and do not reflect what is on the test. I was hoping the reviews were wrong, trust me they aren't. Take this elsewhere.
Prof. Borgi is one of if not the worst prof. I have ever had. I wish I could post videos here I have a video of him screaming so badly at a student who asked a question she started crying and left class. If you ask questions, you will be belittled and berated. Tests are extremely difficult and they can test anything you have learned so far.
Prof. Borgi is condescending, rude and intimidating. Do NOT take his class you will regret it.
Do yourself a favor and take this elsewhere. You will be tested on detailed concepts that were taught in prior classes and expected to remember every formula you have ever learned. His test were some of the most difficult I have ever seen and forget asking for help unless you want him to scream at you.
He's nice if you show up to class regularly and are actively participating. Unfortunately, you can't see your overall grade till the very end of the semester so I was manually calculating. He uses Aleks, and you can't relearn topics that you got wrong on the knowledge checks because he closes the learning modules after the initial due date.
This class has single handedly destroyed my confidence. I was routinely told how I should know things and how bad I was. During office hours Prof. Borgi would ask other students question and follow it up with "see they know it so should you". Please, please, please listen read the other reviews and do not take this class.
Professor Borgi is a nice teacher. When it comes to explaining things in class, he is helpful. He tried to create some class participation during class towards the end of the semester, but most of the semester his lectures are all lecture, no real participation involved. He's kind, and is happy to extend assignments - but the ALEKS software is bad
Please do not take this guy he is not helpful at all his test are hard and provides no reviews for the test and is a tuff grader and says aleks can happen it won't trust me good luck
He is very generous with the due dates on all of the assignments and explains the topics in lectures in an easy-to-understand way. I will be taking another class with him over the summer.
I have never written a review however felt compelled to after three weeks in class. This class was extremely poorly organized with a far less than helpful instructor who talks to his students in a condescending and hateful manor. I really regret not listening to the other reviews and taking this class in the fall.
4 tests with ~15 questions each account for 80% of your grade. Missing one question because you misread it will have major consequences. To top this off it takes weeks to get a reply to emails, grades are "sealed," so you can't see how you did. Take my word on it when I say if you take his class, you will regret it.
Borgi is a great professor! Straightforward & polite. If you come to class ready to learn & not bs you will be A-ok. He's very accommodating to those who show up, camera on and participate regularly. Show effort & pay attention and you will pass. That simple! Plus the homework load was less than my precalc class and his study guides are thorough.
mainly Zoom lectures, however, I found it easier to just teach myself off of the Aleks course and professors' posted notes. The hw, quizzes, and tests are all relatively on par with each lesson. 100% use his office hours. STUDY STUDY STUDY. Not many grades to balance out. Don't necessarily need the textbook. Organ. Chem on youtube is also good.
I honestly am in shock at the other reviews here. Prof Brogi is one of the most amazing prof I have ever taken a class from. He spent an enormous time working with me one on one to help me achieve success and I can not recommend his class enough. Yes, it is a very hard class however if you do the work and ask for help when needed you will do great!
I have no clue what class these others were taking but Prof. Borgi is one of the best teachers I have ever seen. If you are willing to put in the work he will make sure you succeed and I have zero doubts about that. This will be my 3rd degree and I have never seen anyone care to this level.
blazes through material for no regard of whether or not you understand. Not very good at explaining
Professor Borgi gives opportunity to work on past class projects and is versed on the material. Students go through a lot in community college. They have to go to work and manage school at the same time. Which is why they'll usually be extremely lost in class, but they need to put in the work. Please acknoledge his effort.
Professor Borgi was very understanding about late work. Attendance is not necessary and the final exam is done online at home. The software he uses for this course is very helpful. Overall he is a great professor.
Easily tempered if you don't know something. Puts things he didn't teach at all or otherwise mentioned once on the exam and makes it worth the most amount of points. I studied stacks for the first exam and got an F. Studied using organic chem tutor and khan academy for the second, still got an F. A couple smart students means no one else is trying.
Prof Borgi's class was hard, very, very hard. However, If you show up, do the work, talk to him and come to office hours you will pass. When you go above and beyond trying to learn he is willing to help all he can. He spent hours after class helping me I am beyond grateful. Prof. Borgi if you read this you made an amazing difference this semester!
This professor was very difficult. Alot of material taught and a lot of homework given. At least 20 assignments on ALEKS due every single week. This is truly unacceptable and students should not be given this much work due in a very short time frame without a full explanation and review in class.
I took a 6 week course, It was as difficult as you would expect for a course that short. Professor Borgi is pretty average. Office hours were super helpful and he does a good job at answering questions. My only issue was the lack of feedback on tests, beside the grade itself. As long as you keep up with work and study, you'll be fine.
He became my professor last minute, and I was worried after reading the Rate My Professor reviews. However, as long as you stay on top of your assignments and turn them in on time, passing is definitely achievable. He's accommodating and offers useful feedback on discussion posts. Overall, he's not as bad as the reviews suggest.
Please don't take this professor unless you're very good at math. I took him for calculus during a 13 week online course. HW assignments take hours to do. He punishes the students who attend because fewer people show up as the weeks went on even though he chose not to take attendance. FYI he has an accident but you get used to it.
He's one of my best math teachers so far, he is always calm and his office is always open if you need help, he's a simple guy.
Prof Borgi's class is challenging, but with dedication and using resources like unstuck ai, you can succeed. He's helpful in office hours and cares about student learning.
He uses Pearson for all homework and tests, assigns just two light assignments per week. Attendance isn't required for your grade, but he still takes it and I'd recommend showing up to keep up with the lessons. Despite the bad reviews, he's a solid professor who genuinely wants students to succeed and ready to help when needed.
Just do yourself a favor and avoid this professor at all costs. Does not answer emails.
The exams are weighted 80% of your grade which is very unfair. he does not offer feedback on exams unless requested. I would not take the course again he is very tough. Just dont do it.
Will never take him ever again and never recommend him to anyone else.
Tough grader. He responds to emails and is willing to help, but the class was still really challenging. I took it asynchronously so maybe that's why, but there was weekly discussion posts, heavy-weighted exams, and sm ALEKS homework. LockDown Browser quizzes, and exams are through Honorlock. Not graded on much so one bad exam can tank your grade.
(Calc II) Never answers emails, course is chaotic, materials are incomplete, and assignments lack clear instructions. Exams cover topics never taught. Worst online class ever—save your GPA and sanity and pick another professor!
Hard to say whether this course's toughness was due to the professor, the content, or the completely online format. Quizzes are worth 20%, exams are 60%, and the rest is HW. There are only 3 exams, so doing poorly on one tanks your grade, and feedback is limited. When I took this course, the class averages for exams were around the high D range.
I honestly think he was just teaching too many classes, no videos just textbook, no practice tests or study guides, He was okay in office hours and seemed nice, He grades tests easy, but they are difficult just straight from the textbook at random, The class is passable particularly if you can teach yourself but I would avoid him if you can.
He doesn't care about any students. If you want a class that will make you wanna drop out of college then choose this professor.
Since he has a strong accent, you spend more time trying to figure out the words coming out of his mouth than the actual material you are supposed to know. Makes me waste my time when ever I went to his office hours.
This teacher does not really interact with the students but it was a fairly easy class due to using the ALEKS app. You learn more by yourself since he doesn't really teach the class because all the work is online. No one went to class unless it was exam day because again he doesn't teach at all and you can complete the work at home.
Took him for online summer semester. He does not actually grade your work he just looks at final answers. I asked to see one of my exams because I wanted to know why I got a 65%. He then responds by saying oops I didn't check your answers fully and my grade was updated to a 96%. I still was not allowed to see a graded version of my exam.
This class was extremely difficult for no reason. He would say tests are like the study guides and the study guides are missing concepts that are on the test. Averages on exams are 55 and below. Exam 2 and th final were the only ones that followed the study guide but the others I would recommend studying your mind off.
