Took him for 340 lab and he was hella cool! Protocols were not as organized as Brusslan's, but he's character & willingness to help made up for it.I suggust to ask ALOT of questions:)
Had him for Biology 207. I think he should break down the tests either into weekly tests or into every two weeks to help with the memorization. He packs approx. 6 intense chapters for every test which makes it harder.
He is a good guy and is generally happy. The work load was challenging but if you want to do good you have to do the readings and really study. Doing the problems at the end of the chapters and using the quizzes on the CD also helped. I got an A.
Read the book... his lectures will reinforce what you've read. He's very nice and extremely approachable.
STUDY STUDY STUDY!!! Memorize the notes and read the book! but a very interesting but sorta monotone class
very thick accent. Lectures were very boring. Too much info to put in my head before the test.
I did some research for him and he is extremely cool and approachable guy. Then I had him for 211A (senior year after I took a whole bunch of upper div bio classes) and I think what he asks of you is reasonable and prepares you for what you need to know later.
Lots of information to soak in. Make sure you read the class notes and go to class! He is always telling you what is going to be on the test.
His lectures are very long and boring. Couldn't understand him half the time. He does go over what is going to be on the test and gives out study guides, but there is just too much information to memorize. The class notes really help if you go to class.
Khatra gave lots of notes, which means lesser digging through the book for information. The only problem I have with him is that he doesn't allow us enough time to write the notes!
Boring, monotone and hard to understand
Just read the book, it was pointless going to class. i only went for the quizes and exams and completely understood the material better than listening to his lectures.
study really hard and pay attention in lecture. boring and kind of hard to understand because of his accent. but he's a really nice guy.
This class was SO boring! Khatra has the most monotone way of speaking and NEVER says anything exciting. Take this class if you have insomnia.
Prof. Mr. Khatra is one of the greatest minds I came across. very intelligent and humble and dedicated. I wasn't much into biology until I took this class. He is great.
good prof, read the lecture notes thoroughly that he provides in the bookstore.... that will be your Bible for the class. people say his accent is difficult to understand but it took me one day to adjust. i took this as a summer course and ended up with a B, he curves the grades too. he wants to help you learn
No Comments
He is an excellent teacher; very organized and thoughougly explains the concepts. There is a LOT to know and youll be busy scrambling to write all the notes. If you pay attention in class and go over what he talked about in class, you should have no problem. its challenging, but with all the info youll learn from him, its very worth it
his test are SOOOOOO hard, studying for 15 hours+ still only gets me C's on the test. NOT AN EASY CLASS so be prepared. 6 chapter tests and you have to know everything. get the class notes and don't slack off because you'll fail
his accent is really hard to understand. provides the notes. If this is the ONLY class you take then you'll be fine. it needs a LOT of studying time
He is a good teacher, but the class oerall is super hard. His accent makes it difficult to understand, but sometimes gives you a good laugh. He definetly curves the grade, but you still need to study HARD!!! AND A LOT!!! Go to every lecture, read every chapter, and study. Nice guy.
Expect lots of reading. He's hard to understand but tries to explain the stuff and give hints for exams.
He is a really nice teacher. The subject itself is extemely hard, be prepared to study. The teacher tries to help out his students as much as he can depsite his accent which can be hard to understand sometimes but he is very funny. He curves the test and the overall grade. Physiology is a hard subject no matter what!
just study his notes and look over the book, and go to every lecture. i got an A with ease.
Dr. Khatra is a very knowledgeable and precise professor. I only bought the lecture notes. I attended every lecture, though, and wrote a lot of notes, which was helpful when studying. Pay attention! He speeds through slides. Do his study guides and you'll do OK on the tests. He curves, which is crucial. The lab is pretty mindless.
This guy is yawn yawn yawn.. hes so boring.. but he curves the test likea mofo. but the test are soooooooooooooooooooo hard.. i was a big slacker but i studied like 10 hours for his test and still got a C-
Dr. Khatra taught this class for more than 30 years and it really shows. He is expert, fair and helpful teacher. I got an A because I attended every class, studied and prayed. He did his best to make this class very interesting and practical. His notes and study guides are super helpful for the exam, so I suggest you take huge advantage of them.
don't take him point blank period.
honestly the class its self is not hard. it is just a matter actually putting in the time and studying. khatra is a good teacher you just have to go to the lectures so you know what will be on the tests. there are 3 tests 1 each month and then the final and then thats it.
Physio is a difficult subject matter and the only good thing about taking his class is his overall curve at the end of the semester. He tries his best to help everyone out even the ppl that are struggling. Just work hard and study his lec notes in the bookstore
Accent is VERY difficult to understand! Speeds through lectures, which are powerpnts. READ & UNDERSTAND THE BOOK!! Only way to get an A! Major curve, still not enough :/ DIFFICULT EXAMS!!! Read read read!!!
Many people were struggling with this class, but to be honest, it is the EASIEST science class I've ever taken! He curves SO much! *BUY HIS NOTES FROM THE BOOKSTORE* it will be your lifesaver cuz his lectures and exam questions all come from it. Can't emphasize that enough! Use the book for pics. Warning- Do NOT wing this class. Got an A with ease.
Prof. Khatra is absolutely impossible to understand. I hated going to his lecture and that is why I chose not to. I just studied on my own, used his lecture notes (the ones u buy in the bookstore), the book, and his ppts and got an A in the class. I'm not sure if this might work for everyone, but if you study hard enough you'll be fine.
He is the nicest and caring man and really goes out of his way to make sure you can hear him in lecture and tries to spice up boring topics. His tests were always fair, not easy, not hard. Go to his lectures and read the book for clarity. You'll be fine.
GO TO LECTURE!!! Do not attempt to pass this course without going! He gives you hints as to what will be on exam and he explains everything very well. He has an accent, but you will get used to it. He has a sense of humor which helps while he is lecturing. Take Him!
I think this professor is great! I got an A in his class from studying the lecture notes and powerpoint slides. Reading the book is not necessary. He grades on a huge curve.
physiologly is a hard class, no matter who you take it with. Prof. Khatra was helpful, but you have to listen its not something you skate through. study study study, there will be no way you can pass by pulling all nighters. he gives you his lecture notes and powerpoint slides; really, you can't get a better deal. his accent isnt that bad. take him
I took this class in summer and Dr. Khatra was awesome. He posts lectures online and has supplemental lecture notes. All you have to do is try and you will not fail.
Highly recommended to buy his interactive notes, study the power point slides and notes and you'll be ok. 85% is considered an A :)
His study guides basically say "read and memorize everything" so they are useless. However, if you go to class and LISTEN he gives out hints on what might be on the test. He's a little hard to understand (accent) but you get used to it after a while. His tests are worded funny and has quite a bit of typos so if you don't understand something - ASK!
Yeah his study guides just tell you to know everything but his exams are still reasonable. Certainly nothing there you didn't see coming. Beachboard quizzes are easy, overall a nice easy class.
Seriously, this class is a joke. I took it over summer and got a easy A. There is just no way that you can fail this class.
I just finished taking this class over the summer and received an easy A. All you have to do is go to class, take good notes, and study the lecture notes from the bookstore. The textbook is not necessary. He's very funny and brilliant as well, so take him!:)
I took his class over the summer, and his class was easy as Chem 140. Book is not needed, just read his course notes and YOU WILL GET AN A FOR SURE! First test was easiest, 2nd moderate, 3rd moderate, 4th slightly difficult.
Accented monotone in a large auditorium
Physio. Sucks. But taking it with Khatra will make it manageable. Don't buy the textbook, he posts his powerpoints online so no need to go to class; just study the PPs and fill out his study guides and you should do alright. He's a surprisingly funny guy...but not funny enough for me to go to class
I love this professor! Though I'm getting a B (not his fault, my fault for not studying), he makes physio pretty interesting and fun to learn. He gives study guide before hand which sometimes help. Do good on the first exam since it's the easiest! Also, do good in lab cuz it really helps boost your grade. No stress, no salt, no sugar!
One of the kindest, most approachable prof I've had. His accent is not as bad as you think and he is quite funny. I took him for 212 and I'm happy to be taking physio with him!
If you do everything a good student should do, then you should be fine. Its hard to understand him in lecture. Do the mini quizzes on the website of the book and at the end of each chapter in the book cause he puts some of it on the test. Overall, study and go to class. I don't and I get C's on the test. So if you study, you will do fine :]
I've taken anatomy, and compared to that class- this is easy sailing. But still, just be sure to study the notes he gives you and read up on the study guide before each test and you'll have no problem.
easy! bought book but never used it.didn't use the bookstore notes.recorded his lectures & studied his powerpoints.GO TO CLASS & RECORD HIS LECTURES!that's all you'll need. he tells you what you don't have to study.he gives lots of tips during class & good study guides. he's super nice! work a little & you'll get an A which is an 85%
DO NOT BUT THE BOOK!!! all you need are his lecture notes from the book store, this class is super easy as long as you keep up but, it does not really prepare you if you are going into a major such as nursing.
Heavy accent at first, but if you attend class, you'll get over it. Khatra is cool and has a structured study guide to help out with the exams.
Class was boring, but I blame the subject not the teacher. I just read off his course notes & did his study guide to get an A. Even though I didn't listen too much in lecture, I listened whenever there were hints about what was going to be important for the test. Don't buy the textbook! It's not necessary.
Although I had to learn the material on my own, Dr Khatra sincerely cares for his students and he is willing to help them. I rarely went to lectures b/cI like to study on my own pace and mostly because its boring... I didn't use the book.. his power points and course notes are enough. only study the materials on the study guide and you'll get an A
To be honest, the lecture is overwhelming if you do not keep up with the material. His study notes are really helpful and he posts study guides near each test dates (which are extremely helpful because they basically tell you what you need to know). Lab is fun but the lab test are tricky. An A is 85%. Class isn't too difficult if you keep up.
Class is very boring and there is so much material to cover. Lab is not very interesting and tests are tricky. Only advice is to study really hard for exam 3. He provides study guides but the tests are still difficult. He's really nice though.
I'm a 4.0 student and this class was the bane of my existence, beware comments that say otherwise. His accent is distracting (not his fault obv) Tests- class averaging as low as 58% at on some. Attend class for extra credit points even though its torture! This class moves very fast, be prepared!Don't take to complete GE credit, do yourself a favor.
He's monotone and uses the publisher's powerpoints. Make sure to take notes during lecture and read relevant parts of the textbook. His exams are fairly tough. He gives a study guide, but it's not overly helpful.
Dr. Khatra is one of the best CSULB has! People give him grief about his accent..but get over it. His lectures flow so well and make sense. You'll find yourself remembering content better because his teaching style helps you really understand and connect things together. You'll actually enjoy lecture and studying won't be overwhelming!
He's the most unhelpful professor I've ever had. I went to office hours to ask for help for an upcoming exam and all he told me to do was read over his notes. His exams are ridiculously hard (my classmates also agree) and the study guides don't help at all. There are 3 exams and they're each 6 chapters plus a final. Would NOT recommend.
His tests are very straightforward, but there is so much material to retain so it's rather hard to do as well as you would like. It also doesn't help that he zooms through the material when he is short on time (basically reading through the slides) and his accent. I just can't. Also, I put that attendance is mandatory because he gives EC!
I can't believe that a professor can make extremely exciting material so dull. He only reads his notes off of the power points. He is informative; but at times, his tiresome lectures are hard to follow. The exams are 50 questions each. If you cannot self teach yourself the material, do not take this class. You will not survive academically.
Exams are very difficult. Class average was a 67 for the first exam 65 for the second and 60 on the third. He curved our third exam because the results were really bad. Class is curved also, 60 is a C. Lectures are very boring and he moves quickly, too quick to take notes sometimes. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does iClicker EC.
Khatra is a great professor!!!! He is very straight forward, especially on his exams. I don't understand why many has commented on how they were difficult when all the material was given in class and on the powerpoints. Class is boring, but just look at the pwtpnt on your time :) None of the material are presented in a tricky manner. Take him!
Lecture is dry, but its not Professor Khatras fault that people dont seem engaged in the subject. There are extra credit iclicker questions that makes going to class mandatory, but those points help a lot at the end. Do the study guide that he posts on bb, they cover everything that is on his exams!
This is the worst class I've taken. I feel that anyone who's an engineering major will have a hard time as we're basically taught to not memorize facts but to explain how & why things work. Any KinBio related major will probably do better, but be prepared to read A LOT. Tests are hard even with the study guide, class is boring, just go for a C.
All exams are lecture SLIDE based. All you need to do is study the lecture slides. Great professor, he organizes his slides in a way where his influences are minimal. You don't need to go to class unless you want extra credit. CLEAR GRADING CRITERIA. EXTRA CREDIT GIVEN. HE ALSO CURVES ALOT! Just read the slides no need for the book.
Tests are hard, but if you complete the study guides they should be OK. Attend class for iClicker points. And most importantly, take notes his exams often have questions based off of what he said in lecture.
Boring teacher. Kinda rude in his office hours. not too helpful. Have to go class for clicker points. He provides study guide so just study that and you'll do fine! Read the book too to follow along his lecture slides. Some of his exam questions can be vague and poorly written, so just study his study guide well and you'll do well.
buy an iClicker for some extra credit. his lectures are aggravating. he can't pronounce SIMPLE words correctly. you could honestly pass the class without coming to any lectures, just study well for the tests. i went to every lecture and was bored twice a week, every week, for an hour + 15 minutes. the material seemed easy to me, but i'm in nursing.
what he says is on the test, be ready to be a good note taker if you haven't learned yet. Read everything so that you are aware of terms and be prepared to know what he wants you to know for the exams.
Very strong accent and he talks in broken sentences. Read the textbook, it's the only way to fully get the material.
VERY THICK ACCENT. Makes me bored to death. I always feel sleepy in his lecture. He grades the free response section of the exams very hard, so make sure you know your cycles!!! There are a few five point one page essays, MasteringBiology every week, and exams. Make sure to read the book before lecture and print the lecture slides to fill info out.
Professor Khatra's class isn't the easiest. He knows the material but can be unclear and somewhat boring during his lectures. Reading and trying to understand on your own benefits you more but his lectures contain extra credit (iClicker). If you dislike accents, then you may want to find another professor. If there aren't any other ones, good luck.
approachable & helpful. No need to read the textbook, all the info you need for exams is on the lecture slides. Do everything in your power to get him for lab; he is very chill and helpful as a lab instructor. Lab is easy, don't sweat it. Lecture exams are difficult, do not underestimate the material. if you are not good a memorizer do not take.
Dr. Khatra was cool, but his lack of engagement really made it difficult to understand the content of the class. The class is mostly curved in the C range (79.99%-64%). He counts things by points not a percent *crying*. Test three was really hard!! First test is the easiest. Form study groups and google docs because they do help a lot
this class killed my gpa, and i'm a good student. his accent makes him hard to understand and lab counts for a good chunk of your grade so make sure you do well in there too. the exams can be frustrating because the material is so dense and he tries to cover too many chapters per exam so studying for it is incredibly difficult. take another prof
I enjoyed taking bio 207 with Dr. Khatra. He is very knowledgeable and explains the content in detail. This class is not an easy A, but it's manageable. For tests, I recommend going over the slides and reviewing his course notes which can be purchased from the bookstore.
Lectures were very dry and heavy. He didn't really explain things simple enough for the class to understand. He would lecture as if we had recent knowledge on biology. Be prepared for the exams, they are very difficult and study guides were long.
This class was insanely hard. He does not know how to teach and nearly everyone fails his exams. Do not take him!
He is an awful professor!! He doesnt teach the material and all of his tests are super hard. Dont bother going in to his office hours because he is literally not helpful at all. Take another professor!
After the 3rd midterm he posted how many people had each letter grade... out of 67 students, 8 people had an A, 8 people had a B, 20 had a C, 19 had a D, 12 had an F. Meaning approx. 46% of students weren't passing. I also believe this is not including the people who dropped. His grade scale moved a C to a 65% & he also gives a little extra credit
Even though Dr. Khatra had a really thick accent and seemed as a difficult professor to approach, I would definitely take him. The class was very lecture heavy, but gave iClicker questions for extra credit and he only gives it during lectures, so be sure to attend. Find a group of friends to surround yourself with to study and review all the time!
By far one of the worst professors I have taken! It's not only that I'm dumb in subjects like this but he actually made me feel dumb. He was so demeaning to people who didn't know the material and would praise those who sit in the front row since they also took anatomy. Also he would never answer any emails regarding assignments and other materials
