I was really impressed by how the homework and reviews prepped me better than most of my previous courses. Professor Banerjee is positive and upbeat with a genuine interest in teaching students to succeed in his class.
If only there were more professors like him in the university; he truly cares about his students receiving a GOOD GRADE, and those professors are rare to come by. I value a teacher like him!
Take his class, he is one of the best professors EVER!He cares about his students doing well in the course and tries to help us as much as possible.
TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE! Coming from his 2014 spring class this professor is absolutely phenomenal. HE WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET YOU A GOOD GRADE. I've never seen such a dedicated professor who cared about his students doing well in the semester. If know one knows the test he will let you all work on it together. GREAT GUY!!!
Dr Banerjee is honestly one of a kind. I have never had a professor who cared so much about his students doing well. The class was only once a week so we moved through the material quickly, but he always gave us reviews before the test. Test questions are always straight forward and similar to the reviews. I would definitely recommend taking him!
Dr. Banerjee is one of the best instructors I've had in Rutgers so far. He is knowledgeable and interested in his student's success. As a future teacher I will follow in his footsteps. Thank you Dr.
Dr. Banerjee's knowledge about the subject is only second to his desire to see his students succeed. As a future teacher I value his commitment to his students. Thanks Dr.!
Dr. Banerjee's subject knowledge is only second to his desire for student success. As a future teacher I value his commitment to his students. Thanks Dr.!
Awesome professor! Really cares for the students to do well in his class, and is always willing to help.
Really helpful and truly cared about the students and always willing to help.
Dr. Banerjee was honestly one of the best professors I've came across at Rutgers. He really takes the time to individually understand each student, as well as addressing class material...traits that are hard to find in professors at RU. HIGHLY recommend him for kids who suck at math like I do, he actually helps you learn everything.
He's probably one of the best teachers I've ever had. He genuinely wants every single person to get an A and will do anything to help. He will explain everything you need and adapts his teaching style to each class' needs. He wants to get to know everyone and will help you individually based on your needs. Take his class!!!
I took AP BC Calculus and received a 5 on the AP Exam. I have an A in the class, but this professor made calculus very unnecessarily circuitous. The majority of the class was confused unless one had a background in mathematics.
One of the most kindest and heartfelt teacher I've ever had. He's there for every student and has a huge passion to succeed and he shares it with his students and wants them to all succeed as well. Every class he gives a small little speech to help motivate you. You'll get the help you need from him. Tests are easy. quizzes are ok. He's an 1110
This professor really cares about how each individual is doing in his class and will go out of his way to help you if you're having a hard time understanding. He gives motivational speeches at the beginning of each lecture and goes around to each person to make sure you understand how to do the classwork problems. Take this class!!
Okay hands down, he's an amazing, I mean beyond amazing professor! He loves what he does and he shows it through teaching. I hate late night classes, but he is so worth it. You can tell he really cares about every student. He will help you pass the class if you're struggling. Very intelligent, his brain works like a calculator. He's amazing.
His lectures are based off problems in the book so he is really not that useful (hence the clarity). So I never attended a lecture. His accent can get in the way sometimes. There is extra credit if you attend though. I passed the class by youtube. No homework except he recommends problems. Midterm final and 1 test. He is willing to help you if you.
I didn't like his class at first but it grew on me. He's incredibly helpful, the most helpful professor I've had and he wants his students to do well. His lectures aren't great as he makes mistakes and sometimes over complicates things. But he gives extra credit sometimes and his review questions before exams will guide you to a good grade.
He is a amazing professor who cares about his students and wants them to do well. If you go to his office hours he is very helpful and make sure you understand the concepts. He has review sessions before every exam, the questions from the review sessions are exactly same as the exams just different numbers. Amazing professor!
Amazing professor, makes you really understand calc. Tests are similar to his review, but by no means are the tests easy but he helps you out. Go to office hours if you have any questions. Excellent Professor!
The professor is all for his students doing well. The way he style his class is a bit weird, but if you actively learn you will do well. If you have any problems he is 100% willing to help you understand the material. Honestly, one of the best calc professors out there. He also gives you free points just by attending lecture. He overall great. tbh
Dr. Banerjee's like the uncle you never had. Even if you hate math, this guy will make you understand everything. He gives these quick inspirational speeches sometimes, and he legit cares about all his students. Just pay attention(no need to study after), do your homework, (forgot I even bought a book, you don't use it) and you should get an A.
Amazing teacher. Took Calc 135 my first semester and failed it, partially of my own fault but was able to manage a B when I retook it with his class. He explains things so well and clearly but you have to go to lecture and you have to pay attention. He really knows how to teach and get the message across rather than just throwing up answers.
Within the first week of lectures, he told us that he cares about us. He is very quiet and tends to write small, so try to sit closer to the front of the lecture hall. He hands out an attendance sheet to be signed, so attendance is mandatory. In recitations there is no attendance taken but there are quizzes given at almost every one.
Very nice and helpful. Relies heavily on mymathlab for homework assignments and there are a LOT of homework assignments - typically 3 sets due each meeting. Has 2-3 question quizzes which he writes on his pacing schedule. Tests are not hard because he emails practice questions that he'll go over before exam.
He is great!
Professor Banerjee would get involved with his entire class, and he made a large lecture hall feel like an intimate class setting. He would always ask if anyone had questions, and he took his time to explain everything until we understood it. He also asked us to give him feedback on how he was teaching and what we thought he could do differently
very overrated, isn't as helpful as people make him out to be, tells people struggling with the class to calm down and not stress out because they'll be fine...
First exam was hard and the second exam was a little bit easier. This was with tons of studying. His TA for recitation is terrible. Both of them take points off for ridiculous things even when the questions are easy. I had to work so hard for this just to get a B+ and I understood every concept, they 're hard graders. He's also very disorganized.
He's a very nice professor who essential cares for his students. He goes over hard problems. He goes over useless problems sometimes. However, his exams are somewhat difficult. The first one was harder than the second one. The recitation is a mess of TA's who takes off points for no reason which can lead to failing the quiz given every week.
Best math professor out there, He is very helpful, gives study guides prior to exam (about the same as exam). If you do all your work and understand you will get an easy A. TAKE HIM!!!
Does not help students learn the material, bad attitude, and extremely rude.
He really cares about his students. He'll ask you what problems you have with the material after every exam, he'll ask you for feedback on his teaching. He makes himself very accessible before/after class hours. He gave us extra credit options and really wanted us to do well. That doesn't mean this class is an easy A, but he makes it more bearable.
Dr. Banerjee is easily one of, if not the best, math teacher/prof I have ever had. He is very straightforward in explaining concepts, shows you and works through many forms of examples, and is always willing to help when you need help. He goes the extra mile that I'm sad to say most other professor's don't aim to reach. Very inspiring for success
Dr. Banerjee was one of the best math professors I have ever had. He explained things really well and always tried to help everyone out. Calculus can be very hard, but he managed to make it easier. He wants his students to pass and he gives study guides that are relatively similar to his exams. I would definitely recommend him.
best math professor. cute, old (old is good when it comes to profs) and understanding person. would take him again definitely. he speaks in a low voice but thats fine if you sit in the front rows. if you are not good at math this is the right class because he goes into the basics even while explaining hard topic.
I don't know why so many people gave such high reviews. He is an awful teacher, especially if you are taking Calculus for the first time. If you don't want to ruin your GPA or this is your first time taking Calc, don't take him. Take someone else. Anyone else.
Very smart person but awful at teaching. Do not take him unless you're a math genius
If you're going to take his class, you might as well be taking an online class. That is how helpful he is. He flies through problems and explains nothing.
Banerjee is one of the best professors in the math department. He holds extra review sessions before the classes which are very helpful. He works hard and want all his students to get an A. He goes over all kinds of problems in the class so the test problems don't look alien. Pay attention, you'll get and A
Banerjee was the best professor I've had at Rutgers. He goes above and beyond to help his students. Lots of office hours, final exam review sessions, and extra credit. He moves quickly but if you go to his office hours, he'll clear anything up for u. He wants you to learn by practicing, so his class may be a lot of work but its worth it
I never really went to class bc I took calc in high school. He's awesome, but he's not the best at explaining everything thoroughly. It'd be tough if you're new to calc. Got a 77 on the first exam, 90 on the second, probably averaged a 80-90 on the quizzes and ended the class with an A.
He's an all around awful teacher. The absolute WORST math professor I ever had. He doesn't explain and thinks he is a great teacher because his A+ students are the ones that already took calc before (unbeknownst to him). Awful teacher.
Everyone who loves this man has taken calculus before. He does not have problems prepared, he lets students pick problems at random and you pray that the problems selected covers all the material. AWFUL for anyone taken calculus for the first time. Hope you're into having web assign due the day after it was taught in lecture :)
Professor Banerjee is a real math genius, the only issue is that he isn't the best at explaining what he is teaching. He genuinely does want the students to do well but the calc class I was in was quite difficult. I had a lot of trouble catching up after only missing one lecture.
Overall great professor and truly cares about his students. He wants all his students to take something away from the class regardless of what their grade is. As for the class itself, I'd recommend not hesitating to ask questions to him because he can be unclear at times however he is determined to help his students. I recommend taking his class
My favorite teacher I've taken at Rutgers so far. Banerjee is such a gem I literally looked forward to going to class every day because of his humor and teaching. His quizzes are easy and he prepared students for exams (goes over everything that will show up/no surprises). I wish he could teach all of my classes!
He goes really fast and is like he's racing himself. Great guy and really nice but it is so hard to keep up in class and there is a lot of homework. If you decide to take the class, sit in the front and you can't get distracted for even two minutes otherwise you'll be lost.
Professor Banerjee is a wonderful man. Very sweet and insightful. He's a great teacher. He can be fast at times, but if you keep up, you will learn a lot. He assigns grades fairly and is always willing to help. He is so easy to approach. Each class he always gives the class some words of wisdom, which I am going to miss! Overall, a great man/prof.
Banerjee was a great professor. He was nice and inspirational. He liked to see students succeed and always reminded us to not take everything so seriously. He teaches fast so if you want to prepare, just read the textbook and teach yourself the material before hand. Great guy!
Professor Banerjee is a great professor. He is very passionate and intelligent. He likes to give inspirational advice to his students. There we 2 exams, which were twice as hard as the things we talked about. If you are not a math head, I do not recommend this course. I was placed in it, couldn't change it. Passed Precalc in HS, but not in RU.
The best professor I had as a freshman. He is a genius, he can say the page number of any problems without looking or hear the problem fully. He is Very passionate about what he is teaching. DW if you Don't do SO good on tests cause he gives a good curve which will help you to pass with a B at least. Please take him if you have taken Calc in HS.
Very nice person, but not a great professor. The exams were nothing at all like the things we discussed in class. If you asked him for help, he is very caring and helpful but cannot teach. I do not recommend taking this course.
He is a sweetheart, HOWEVER, if you never took Calculus before, I would not recommend. He knows what he is talking about but he is not good at actually TEACHING the material. He genuinely cares about his students but he never makes it a point to truthfully help, even in outside sources.
Study hard
He truly cares about his students and will go over material multiple times to ensure that his students understand. He is fast paced so you have to make sure you pay attention and take good notes. He provides a pretty good curve, so as long as you put in the work you should be able to at least get a B
He basically didn't even see the final and we ended up getting questions we never even seen before. Take the class somewhere else if you can! Very disorganized department. Plus get ready to do tons of Irrelevant homework!
He cares about his students but the class is hard get ready to do lots of work specially if you have never taken calc before
Was a great professor and was very caring. Exams were very hard but quizzes were easy. 100% recommend. Started every class with an inspirational message and was easy to talk to during his office hours. But definitely have to study because Calc is hard.
Calculus is a new kind of language, if you have never taken it. No matter what professor you have, calculus will be difficult. However, Banerjee does his best to explain calculus concepts. He makes learning very fun, and provides a positive learning environment. Do the practice problems if you have never taken Calc in high school.
Solid teacher, youll get used to the accent. Online homework is irrerelvant tho. Just study the practice midterms and finals. The whole department is ridiculously hard, i dont rly think i would have done any better with another proffesor. He does alot of office hour review type stuff, and will help you. he took attendence like 3 times, go to class
Amazing, inspirational teacher. He really cares about his students and wants his students to do well in his class. His lectures go a little too fast so if you have not taken calc before than I dont recommend taking him however he is very accessible out of class so if you need help he will for sure find time to help you.
Wonderful person, but not the greatest teacher. His pacing is a little fast, if you have not taken calc before I wouldn't recommend. If you have, take him. If you make sure you can do all the practice problems and practice exams you will be fine. He is also very willing to help outside of class.
He's a tough grader. Always open for questions but unless your questions are very specific he won't be of much help to you. The class is very fast paced, so if you don't go into class knowing what you're about to learn, you'll feel behind. Exams were super hard and nothing like the practice problems we went over in class.
Such a sweet man and really cares about his students. Gives a lot of notes during the lectures so it really is helpful to go. I really recommend him, and going to his office hours helps ALOT. Great guy, would definitely take him again
Let me just say I did horrible in this class but thats also because I sucked at calc and I didnt care much, but the vibe that Banerjee brought to the class was like no other. He always made us smile and laugh and reminded us that we can achieve anything. I would take him if you enjoy calc. One of the friendliest professors!
He is super funny and brings a light atmosphere to calculus. His tests weren't that hard, especially if you took calc in high school. probably one of the best professors you can take for calc. Recitation teacher, Mr. D, was also incredibly helpful, he simplified everything Mr. Banerjee said. Not too difficult of a class.
He was a really good professor, he did mostly problems in lecture which gets straight to the point in math. He made it really easy to understand. Definitely hope I can get him for Calc 152
Professor Banerjee is one of the best math professors in Rutgers. He is amazing and caring to the students and can answer any of their difficult questions they have. He is good at explaining the topic properly. He grades fairly on the midterms and final exam.
Professor Banerjee is one the best professors at Rutgers. He is an amazing and caring professor that can help the students with any difficulties that they have. He is good at doing the textbook problems which can help to make it easier for students to understand better.
Banerjee is super nice and caring and tries to be inspirational throughout his lectures. He's clearly very educated but I just don't think it translates as well to his teaching. I think he's an okay lecturer but sometimes skips steps and certain problems without explaining anything but overall he's super nice and caring.
Prof. Banerjee spent the first 10 min of lecture telling us inspiring quotes and reminding us to be a good person, which is so cute. He talks fast, but you can ask him to slow down or scroll up on the whiteboard to see what you missed and he does it. He also messes up on grading tests sometimes but you can email him and clarify.
He is very nice and funny, and held many extra review sessions before exams to help us but he goes way too fast and (especially at first) is very hard to follow. To be honest Dr.G's lecture videos on youtube were a lot clearer and similar to the midterms. But he had extra credit activities which is a plus. I still suggest Dr.G tho.
Definitely a super nice professor and he really cares about his students. The issue lies within the whole calc135 program because the things we cover in class are not compatible at all with the exam difficulty. Hosts exam reviews and gives extra credit, but a lot more credit should be given tbh. Has recitation quizzes which are difficult sometimes.
Online, calc 135 was quite difficult but prof Banerjee was incredibly patient and helpful through it. He took a lot of time to hold extra review sessions for students before every midterm and the final. In every lecture, he briefly goes over concepts and then does questions from the textbook. Overall, a really sweet and hard-working professor!
This was my first time ever taking calc, and he was an amazing professor. Recorded all his lectures in case you couldnt attend and answered any questions. Very inspirational as well. I recommend attending his lectures live. (Organic Chem Tutor on youtube combined w Banerjees lectures helped me get a B)
Professor Banerjee is an amazing professor to have for Clac135. He starts off his class with motivation thoughts and he performs various problems so that his students understand the material. Always available to take your questions during office hours, and in return all he hopes is that you provide your best efforts to this course. Easy B or above.
Banerjee is a great lecturer, definitely preps you for the exams very well. His quizzes and homework are also really easily so it isn't bad at all. He also makes sure you know the concept very well if you go to his office hours.
This teacher overall was a decent lecturer, he tried his best and answered questions. However, he forgot to give us our final exam and had it moved to a different date with no accommodations. He is an irresponsible, stuck up teacher who does not care about his students. Do not take his class.
He loves math and it is clearly shown. He explains the topics in creative ways and makes sure it is understandable to everyone. Although the class might be difficult as a whole, I think he is a solid teacher.
I love Banerjee- he was the most caring professor. Started off every class with an inspiration quote to keep everyone motivated. Towards the end of the semester he ends up giving extra points for to try and help everyone do well. I also took him for precalc 1- only issue is he writes all his midterms which don't prepare you as well for the final.
Had him for Algebra. This professor is the best professor i have taken at rutgers. He knows what he is doing. I wish I could take him for all my upcoming math classes.
Goes way too fast during lectures and it's very hard to keep up. Sometimes he does the problem in his head and writes out the answer on the board without explaining how he got the answer. It's hard to make out what he was writing on the board because of the chalkboard. Better if he used the projector and did problems on an online whiteboard.
ABSOUTELY HORRIBLE! I failed his class due to his lack of teaching, he would try to do these short 5 minute lectures to say we 'covered' a topic. He is the worst professor I have ever had and does not care about passing his students. Also, most of what was on the final exam was not covered in class.. so imagine how frustrating that is! DO NOT TAKE!
HORRIBLE! failed his class due to his lack of teaching, he would try to do these short 5 minute lectures to say we 'covered' a topic. Professor Banerjee is a good man. I give my full respect to him because he is very helpful and encouraging. . I ended up passing because he helped me a lot. He is a good lecturer. he knows how to teach and i am unsure why there are some negative comments. You will not regret having him. HES THE BEST.. PLEASE TAKE HIM!.
This professor was a roller coaster. Lectures were so disorganized, when asked to review when students didn't understand he would give attitude and he would get mad. Everyone in my class failed the final, most of what was on the final was never reviewed in class. Good luck if you have him your sanity will be tested.
This professor genuinely cares for the work he does and his students. You do not come across many professors like him. I was very stressed about taking calc2 but he truly helped us and was also accessible outside of class. I wont say hes the easiest grader but he is fair and also takes off quizzes and hw grades to boost your avg. Highly recommend!!
He is genuinely SUCH a sweet man. At the beginning of every class, he starts with something inspirational, such as "if you are healthy, you can do anything". Now, is Calc 135 an extremely difficult class? Absolutely. But its not a matter of the professor, its the material. He will answer any questions and is very accessible.
DO NOT TAKE!! Took him in the spring and almost the whole class failed due to him skipping over lessons and not teaching the right information. He is not good at all!
DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS U WANNA WASTE MONEY AND TIME!! horrible professor failed everybody in the class
Terrible professor, do not waste your time going to lectures if you have him since barely anything is covered. This professor also has mediocre TA's that will be of very little assistance throughout the recitations. This class is pure self-studying!
Moves very very fast during lectures and doesn't explain most of the material whatsoever. Solves problems on the board during the whole length of lecture and no time actually teaching the material. Expects you to understand everything he writes on the board on your own. Quizzes in the class have nothing to do with homework or practice problems.
Sweet man, started every lecture trying to inspire students. Very kind and very patient.
Look, this Man is one of the most open minded people I've ever met. If he goes too fast just tell him and he WILL slow down. In class he goes over problems that will likely be on the exam. Most people do NOT fail his class like others have said. He is very willing to answer questions and ensures that he does. Always willing to extend HW deadlines.
This professor is literally an angel. He is a very understanding person and is full of empathy. He gave me and a few students a speech after class and encouraged us to move forward, although the class looked hard to pass. He is the best person at this whole school. I have not met another professor like this man.
Dr. B is a great professor, but you have to be putting in the work behind the scenes. It's a college class, you need to be doing material outside of class on your own. What I respect most about him is that he let us work as hard as we could through the semester, and at the end gave grade help. He didn't let us slack off, but rewarded real effort.
