take my word on this, datta should not have a job teaching anyone, worst teacher everrrrrrrr
He has a thick accent, but once you get past that, he is actually quite a good teacher. He is very enthusiastic, extremely intelligent and friendly. He actually challenges his students, and that's what most students dislike.
he SUCKS so bad, you can't understand a WORD he is saying. and that on top of the fact that you have to memorize EVERYTHING in every chapter just to have half a chance at passing.
great teacher, unbelievably brilliant, able to communicate his knowledge effectively.
Just the class to take to make yourself feel horrible.
dude was just wrong, so wrong it was bad. i found it funny how he would insult Basu for not teaching us something, but the truth is datta can use some serious remedial training and learn how to teach a class. For future reference don’t ever buy a book for some reason he thinks he is good enough to teach from memory. all around he sucks
Includes class participation. Hard to understand at times which can be difficult with the subject he is teaching. I would NOT recommend this professor.
It is really difficult to understand him because he use to use black bord to teach no professional powerpoint or nothing and its is so much so that board use to get full overall very hard to follow him
This class is easy if you already took chemistry in high school or elsewhere. There is a huge language barrier. He also likes to explain things in the hardest way possible.
If you don't have a strong chemistry foundation (from high school) you are going to struggle. I had both Chem 1 & 2 in high school and I did really well in the class, but I have my high school chemistry teacher to thank for that. He's sometimes hard to understand. I thought it was nice of him to curve exams, but thats the only good thing he did.
If you're not good at chemistry, my guess is you'll struggle. He doesn't connect with students who aren't naturally talented at chem. Datta should be locked in a room doing research, not teaching. He goes way too fast and is rude. I'm pretty sure he avoided helping me during office hours. Try to take another professor unless you're good at chem.
Very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. You must attend his classes, otherwise you will be lost. About exams, listen to what he says. He asks questions from those which he solves in the class.Fun to have a professor like him. This semester he gave a series of extra credit quizzes that helped me to put my grade up! Highly recommended.
Can be tough to understand, but if you pay attention, write down everything he says/writes, and memorize all your notes, you should be fine. He is extremely helpful and not intimidating. His exams are pretty much straight from the notes, nothing tricky. I had tough time with bio and chem before, but after taking him everything makes sense now.
Very hard to understand, poor english, bad pronounciation!
Does not even address what he is talking about before he just dives right into writing stuff on the chalk board. Going to class is useless. I completely wasted my time going even though it was "mandatory" but he never called on people like he said he would. Don't take him. He's horrible and can be mean to anyone who doesn't know the answer.
Can't Understand him
Had him for Fundamentals of chem, and i absolutley loved him! He's hard to understand at first, but he tests you on exactly what he says he will. you must come to class and take or else you will fail the tests! He's very helpful and not intimidating at all.
At first he seems hard to understand but if you continue to go to class and pay attention, you will understand him better. He is very intelligent and his tests aren't extremely hard. You HAVE to go to class if you want to pass, he goes over a lot of examples in lecture. He makes jokes to make the class fun and is a very nice guy!
I thought that he was good teacher. You really have to pay attention to understand him though. His examples on the board are very helpful on tests, but he always just keeps writing and doesn't explain himself too well. The main reason for me doing well in the class was supplemental instruction. Also, go over the power points before a test.
Unfortunately he is the only one who teaches Adv. BioChem. His accent is very thick, getting past that can take some time. Uses chalk board and lectures from memory. Lectures are unorganized (because he teaches from memory). His exams/tests are just a regurgitation of the notes. MUST ATTEND CLASS & TAKE GOOD NOTES TO PASS. Just bad at teaching.
Take notes and you'll be fine for the test. He was really a good teacher, just a little hard to understand because of his accent, but overall he's pretty awesome!
Great teacher! Hard to understand at times, but very helpful. Tests are challenging, but all the materials are covered in class. I would definitely recommend Datta!
I liked him!! He is always willing to go the extra mile to help students do well! He held review sessions before his exams also, which was great!
I took this class in the summer. It was a ton of material in a short amount of time. Professor Datta was more than willing to go over examples during office hours. Show an interest in trying to learn the material, he will be very generous with his grading. Tests are hard but pay attention in class, he will tell you what will be on the test.
If you want to do well in this course, go to class and show an interest. He let's you know what's going to be on the test during lectures. If you don't understand what he is saying, ask for clarification. He has a good sense of humor and obviously loves what he's teaching.
Lots of info in a short period of time but what you take notes on is EXACTLY whats on the exams so go to class and take good notes. STUDY STUDY STUDY! Hes always willing to help outside of class and tries his best to be clear on what he is saying, although his accent can be hard to understand at times. Gives lots of partial credit! Glad I had him!
Good professor. Write down everything in class that is presented and study that for the exam. Very generous with partial credit. Lots of material on exams but very straightforward. There were absolutely no games or tricks on exams. Highly recommended.
A very nice prof. Would take time to explain any questions in class and during office hours. Sometimes hard to understand his accent, but as long as you pay attention, you get. It. I also went to drop in tutoring which was helpful when I didn't understand homework.
He is a really nice teacher, loves what he is teaching. He will tell you almost exactly what will be on the test as long as you attend class and pay attention. Also, very generous with extra credit. And more than willing to explain in office hours. Great sense of humor, it made you relax if you were apprehensive about it initially.
-Great professor IMO. He writes everything on the blackboard in class and you can reference any questions/figures in the book. He goes quickly through some lectures but other than that I had no problems- would enjoy taking another one of his classes in the future.
He was very caring towards students and willing to help.
He is very caring and helpful toward students. He has a sense of humor which is enjoyable in class. Prof Datta is very knowledgeable and gives great examples.
Professor Datta was a great professor. If you are a nursing student, YOU WANT HIM! He is by far the best of them. He is funny if you sit up front and interact with him. He is willing to help you at his office. HE WANTS YOU TO DO WELL! he gives extra credit. And the homework sucks.. but if you do it and go to class and you will get an A.
He is a great teacher and he wants you to do well in the class. He gives out extra credit and even tells jokes!
I loved him. He's the best fundamentals of chemistry professor at Kent State. You may think it is going to be a challenging class due to his accent, but you get used to it after awhile and he's so funny. Do the homework after each chapter and it turns into bonus if you go to class every time. Write down all examples given in class.
He is a great professor and definitely knows what he is talking about. His accent can be very intimidating at first, but after the first few classes you will get used to it. Attend every class and do all the homework and you will end up with a good grade!
Amazing professor! Hard to understand at times because of his heavy accent, but just pay attention, go to class, and do the homework! One of the best chemistry professors at Kent State
He does have an accent but you get past that if you come to class often. Try to sit near the front because the notes are from the blackboard and it was easier to understand him when I sat closer. Class is usually pretty entertaining because he tells little jokes and laughs with the you. Do the homework and write down the examples.
The accent is difficult in the beginning but it gets better as the year goes on. He is very knowledgeable with chemistry and wants the best for his students. I recommend attending every class because he will randomly call names for attendance points. Try to sit up towards the front because you will want to write down everything he writes.
Datta is a great chem prof. At first his accent is hard to understand but the more you come to class and pay attention you learn a lot. He wants the best for his students and will help you anytime you need it. He gives a lot of examples and tells you what you need to know for each test. I really enjoyed having Datta as a prof.
Great Professor! His accent is pretty thick but you'll get used to it. If you want to get a good grade just go to class and do the homework. Simple as that. He is more than willing to help if you're confused on something and he's a very funny guy!
He is a very compassionate and helpful teacher. If you go to him for help he is more than willing to help. He really knows his stuff and wants to see students succeed. While the class can be difficult just go over the notes A LOT and you will be fine.
He is a very compassionate and helpful teacher. He loves to see his students succeed and will try to help you understand the material. I saw him so many times in his office and he would keep explaining things until I could understand it. If you write down everything he puts on the board and write/draw your notes a ton you should be fine.
He has an accent that can be difficult to understand at times. He really knows the material and always willing to help students learn it. Go to his office hours and at least say hi. Don't give up if you don't do well on the first test or two.
Wonderful professor. His exams are straight from his lectures. Sometimes it is difficult to follow him, but make sure to take good notes, see him in his office hours for questions and if possible record the lecture. Wish I could take him for future chemistry courses!
Excellent course. Dr. Datta is an excellent teacher. He knows his materials very well. I wish I could take more chemistry courses from him.
Datta is a great and fairly funny person. As a professor not so much. He is very helpful and can predict what youll get in the class if you ask him based on how youre doing. His accent is very thick and is way to smart to teach a basic chem class. I attended almost every SI to help me and finished with an A
Hard to understand and material covered is hard to comprehend. He is very understanding and wants to help out his students as much as possible which is why he gives out so much extra credit. SI and good notes are a must for this class
I'm not going to lie this course was extremely difficult for me. However, Dr. Datta was extremely helpful throughout the semester. He did whatever he could to see that I succeeded in his course. The exams are long and there's not extra credit so DO NOT MISS CLASS. Make yourself known and you will be fine.
If anyone complains about Dr. Datta, it is only that he doesn't use ppt slides. Everything is written on the board, so you have to go to class. The subject isnt the easiest, but the test is STRAIGHT from the notes. no surprises. if you study, youll get an A. Also, Dr. Datta is more than happy to always help you! he wants you to get an A.
Dr. Datta is so funny and definitely kept me entertained all semester. It is not mandatory to go to class, but if you want to get a good grade you should - the tests are basically whatever is in the notes he provides you. Awesome teacher and nicest person ever, definitely recommended.
Dr. Datta is a very helpful professor who knows his stuff. The class itself is difficult, lots of material is covered in a short time, but he explains everything with examples and is always patient and available if you need additional help. Never skip class, take good notes and listen carefully to details and you'll do well in the class.
Professor Datta is very skilled in his knowledge of the material. He writes quickly and only uses the chalkboard, meaning attendance is essential. If you miss any of the information he wrote on the board, he is always able to help once class is over. The tests are tough, but all the info is taken from lecture notes. Take good notes to succeed!
Very helpful and intelligent professor. Tests cover a lot of material but it is all from the lecture notes. He is very willing to help and gives a lot of extra credit. If something is unclear definitely talk to him during his office hours. He makes class interesting with jokes and describes the topics very well!
really intelligent and illegible extremely helpful you will get an A
Extremely intellectual professor who is always willing to help. Make sure you attend class because tests are based off of his notes. He gives a good amount of extra credit.
Biochem Foundations of Medicine is not a class in which the material is difficult to understand. However, Datta lectures both high volume and detailed material, all from memory. Tests are very long but completely from lecture. Extremely cool and funny guy. One of the most fun and grueling courses I have taken.
He's a very intelligent professor who writes all of his notes from memory onto the blackboard. Tests are long, but straight from the notes. Textbook is not needed. He also has a great sense of humor!
Great professor! He does not use powerpoints so there is a lot of note taking. Attendance is a must because everything on the tests are from the lecture. His tests are long but there was always extra credit. If you study the notes from class, you will be set.
Biochem Fnd is a tough course as there's a ton of material, but Dr. Datta is clear in his expectations and is willing to answer any questions. If you can't make office hours he's very willing to see you when you're free. He makes the course interesting w/ practical applications of the topics discussed. Overall a great professor and great course.
Tips for success: Never miss class. Gives credit for attendance and all notes are handwritten/drawn by him on the board. Compare notes with the book, he pretty much follows the format and it is easier to see the structures. Prepare for exams weeks ahead of time. You will have to regurgitate >90% structures/notes on the exam. Go2 Office hours weekly.
It's a class that is as hard as you make it. If you attend class and take good notes you'll do great! His tests are you taking your notes and rewriting them on the exam essentially. Study with a white board to help memorize structures, and you'll be set! If you miss a class, make sure you have a friend to take notes from!
Attendance was not mandatory, but essential to doing well. Did not purchase the book as 100% of the exam was from the lecture, know the notes! Extra attendance points are given, as well as bonus on the test. Clear expectations, very helpful. Heavy topic material, but Dr. Datta made it logical and easier to get through, especially in a summer class.
Could never understand him. His test were difficult. Not impossible to pass but it's a drag being in his class either way.
Professor Datta is very hard to understand because he has a foreign accent. He moves through the material very fast, and he doesn't understand the questions that students ask. The tests are very difficult, but he puts free extra credit on all of them. You also get extra credit for showing up to class.
Great professor, must attend lectures and do the homework. Don't skip classes. Must stay for whole lecture time.
Super thick accent that takes a couple of classes I get used to. Material is very confusing and he goes fast and doesn't explain things. Need the book to pass the class. Gives out extra credit. Randomly takes attendance so don't skip, and go to SI all the time to be get a good grade on his tests
Dr. Datta is the best professor ever. I wish he taught every single one of my chemistry classes. He knows all. Notes are long, tests are hard and come exactly from notes. He's so nice and smart. Accent is heavy, but he's hilarious.
You have to take good notes other wise you're not going to get a grade. There is homework problems in the book that he assigns every couple of weeks. He has a pretty strong Indian accent, but after awhile you'll get used to it. He gives extra credit if you attend all the classes and do the homework.
The exams come directly from the notes, so don't buy a book. They are all handwritten on the board, so if you plan on missing class, make sure you know someone that takes good notes. He gave extra credit for attendance. There's a lot of information to know for exams, but he won't test on anything that's not in the notes.
Great professor, knowledgeable, gem, very kind.
Great Professor ever. Attend every lecture and take good notes, you will pass with flying colors. All the test question are basically from the notes.
Excellent lectures, great professor, brilliant, gem. Take good notes, don't miss a single class, you will do very well in the tests.
Dr. Datta is a very intelligent professor who often makes mistakes during lectures because he pulls everything from his head. Very friendly and willing to help, if needed, but without a doubt you have to work hard in this class. Overall enjoyed the class even with its kinks.
Excellent lectures, very smart professor. To be fair with Dr. Datta, he did not make mistakes in his lectures. Some of my classmates did have prerequisites for this course, not solid background to take good notes. He gave plenty of bonus and attendance points. It helped to many of us.
Great professor! Don't miss class, the notes are everything when it comes to the test.
Professor Datta is a very intelligent man. You must go to all the classes. You can get extra credit by being there every class. His tests come directly from the notes in class. Take good notes and study a lot and you should be fine!
He has a very thick accent but after a few weeks you don't notice it. Got to the lectures you get a huge bonus at the end, and do the homework. All of his exams test from lecture almost nothing from the book, dont even buy it.
At first it is very hard to understand what he is saying but it gets easier and easier as the semester goes on. He gives enough extra credit to bump you up an entire letter grade at the end of the semester. He is always making jokes and his tests are very easy. Definitely would recommend taking him.
Gives extra credit for attendance and homework, even if homework is wrong! Highly recommend
Datta is my favorite teacher I've had. He is a great teacher and the exams are fair while tough.
You have to know everything for this course
Datta is one of the best professors i have had. yeah the material is hard and you have to work for it but that can be expected of all college courses. He is 100% there and willing to help his students and is so cute and funny. tests are really tough but i would totally take a class with hm again.
Datta is a great professor! Although the exams are tough, he gives extra credit for attendance and homework. As long as you go to class and do the homework, you can do really well in this course. He's knowledgeable, and makes class more interesting with his lively personality.
Dr. Datta is one of my favorite professors. He is extremely intelligent, funny, and fair. Tests are challenging but all the questions come from your notes. Attend every lecture and do all of the homework for bonus points at the end of the semester. I enjoyed his class very much!
Gives bonus on attendance and on every test - you'll need it. Don't skip class and write down exactly what he says in each lecture. It WILL be on the exam. No tricks - just know the notes. Has a good sense of humor, and I thought the class was extremely interesting.
Prof. Datta was a joy. Funny guy and he's really into his job. He's respectable and nice. He offers a more than fair amount of extra credit. However, don't depend on that. If you bomb most test expect to get a D. Work hard and you'll reward yourself. He's always willing to help. Do your best and you'll likely get a B. If you study you'll get an A
Loved Dr. Datta! Took him for a 5-week biochem course in the Summer. Tests were difficult but he gives you everything to prepare for them. Bonus points for going to lecture, but if you don't go you will bomb the tests. Take good notes and study your rear off and you should do well!
Professor Datta is awesome. I'm currently taking molecules of life and he gives you all the resources to be successful!
Overall an alright teacher, but his lectures are really hard to understand. His accent makes it hard, plus his lectures are all over the place and the class is often confused. Does his best, but doesn't always explain things too well. Pay attention, take good notes, go to SI and you'll do well. Go to class & turn in your hw - they're extra credit.
Professor Datta is such a great guy! He teaches from memory. His exams aren't bad, but make sure you take GOOD notes. He does have a thick accent, but I got use to it after a few classes. Only negative thing I have to say is that he writes and doesn't realize our paper isn't long as the chalk board but other than that, he's great!
Dr. Datta was a delight! He is so sweet and kind and very knowledgable. He takes attendance and gives out a bunch of extra credit at the of the semester if you come to every class and do the assigned homeworK. i would recommend showing up everyday, take good notes, and PAY ATTENTION. The test is directly from the notes, there is no book required.
Currently taking him for foundations of medicine! He's super duper nice; and he's understanding and wants people to do well. Admittedly he has a bit of an accent and the lecture room makes it difficult to see what he writes on the board (all test material is from this and what he lectures) but he's very clear and concise. Wish I had his memory.
He is a little hard to understand sometimes but usually the person next to you figured out what he said. Notes are kind of everywhere but the tests are all multiple choice! It saved my life and he offers a good amount of extra credit. He can be funny but doesn't answer questions well.
This was my favorite class by far, take Professor Datta if you can!! Easy A, tests are exactly how he explains and he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
Dr. Datta is the BEST prof. for Molecules of life chem. He is a little hard to understand so I recommend going to SI to get the info again and clearer. His tests are straight forward, he doesn't try to trick you. He doesn't post slides, he just uses the chalkboard and he takes attendance so I would recommend going to his class.
He is one of the best professors I've had! He does have a thick accent, but you are still able to get the point of what he is trying to say. His notes are a bit everywhere, but go to SI. It helped a lot. He gives a lot of extra credit but make sure to go to class, he only writes on chalkboard. He is very funny too!! All around great prof!!!!!
Great professor and more relatable to the nursing major than other chems. Hard to understand but good if you sit near the front.
Honestly one of the most straight forward professors I have ever had. He is very passionate about Chemistry and there are many chance for extra credit. Overall super nice and funny as well!
He shows up. Takes attendance sometimes. Starts scribbling on the board. Everything he writes on the board comes on test. You have to remember literally everything even if they make sense or not. His class is a torture, bit I liked his class . As a person his is very helpful when asked for help. Getting the book is a waste
I loved Professor Datta! He offers so much extra credit that its so easy to get an A. I was horrible at chem in high school and had over 100% in his class before I took the final! He is really smart and does a great job at explaining things in lecture. He is by far the best chem professor at Kent State and I recommend him to everyone!
Hes a great and funny guy, and I liked his class a lot! The only reason people have a hard time is because you have to learn how to take his notes and translate them into ideas you can study from, if you do that his class is easy and youll have no problem!
Datta is an amazing professor, I took him for molecules of life. The test are straight forward and come from the notes and as long as you go to class you will pass. He does have an accent, I sat closer to the front and it helped, after awhile you will barely notice it. He is amazing if you have to take molecules of life definitely pick him.
His lectures are usually twice a week and 1hr 15 minutes. All classes are lectures- however the information is not difficult what so ever- show up to class take good notes and you'll be fine. He reviews for each test and tells you exactly what you need to know/ don't need to know.
Professor datta was a great professor. I enjoyed having him as a teacher. At first I was nervous I wouldnt understand him due to his strong accent but after the first week I understood him completely. The material was difficult but the si leaders for this class were very helpful. He is very approachable for questions as well.
By far the best prof. Straight forward and tells you everything you need to know for the exam. Absolutely take him.
Professor Datta was awesome! Granted he is a little difficult to understand at first, but if you take all his notes down and attend SI you will pass the class no problem. Don't get nervous about all the notes, the tests are DIRECTLY from his notes NO trick questions. Don't buy the book.
Dr. Datta is a wonderful professor and a very sweet man. Pay attention and attend every lecture as well as take diligent notes and you will succeed. He makes his expectations very clear.
It was a pleasure to take two classes under Dr. Datta.
Great teacher. Loved the class. So much easier then other molecules of life class.
Datta is an amazing professor, this course is no joke but one of the most fulfilling. Very funny and learned a lot!
Great professor! Lots of extra credit!
He's a great professor. He uses the blackboard and that can be confusing at times and sometimes hard to read, but he teaches you more than you could imagine learning. His tests are also straight from the notes and he is very clear what will be on them. He gives about 10 homework assignments which are easy with 4 tests and lots of extra credit. Love
Easy A if you show up and do the homework. Theres lots of extra credit!!!! He really knows his stuff and is willing to help outside or after class.
He is very nice and very approachable. Sit upfront or you will not know what he saying or writing. GO TO SI SESSIONS!!
I love Professor Datta! By far the best Chem teacher.
Dr. Datta is the best! I was super nervous going into the class because of his thick accent, but once he starts teaching it is much easier to understand him. His lectures are super straight forward, and test questions come straight from the lecture. He also offers extra credit for coming to class, and for doing the homework. I definitely recommend!
Professor Datta gives many opportunities for extra credit. It can bring your grade up two letter grades if you do all of it correctly. Although, going to class is a must. He's very clear on what is on the exam and is very approachable. GO TO SI!!!! Loved him!!
Know your front and back, and studying to memorize every single detail is painful. However, I didnt even mind because of how much I enjoyed Dr. Datta. Beyond that, sit back and enjoy a master at work. Datta is brilliant, kind, and funny. If given the option, I absolutely recommend himhes probably my favorite professor at Kent State.
By far the hardest class I have ever taken, but by far the most interesting. He is the sweetest professor I have ever had and is willing to help if his students are confused. Be prepared to memorize notes. Do not get behind on that. The exams start off medium level then go to impossible, but there is an insane amount of extra credit! Good luck!
Dr. Datta is the sweetest man alive. He is genuine and hilarious. His accent can be hard to understand at times, but everyone gets used to it quickly. He gives homework as extra credit and it is easy, so do it. He was never in a bad mood for my class, always happy. I enjoyed going to class twice a week.
I hated him on the first week of classes. However, I've learned to like him and I'm sad I won't have class with him anymore. If all professors were as straightforward as Dr. Datta, life would be easier. Study your notes, practice the structures/mechanisms and you will do well. I would recommend him to anyone who genuinely wants to learn biochem
Datta is honestly the best professor I've had. He knows what he is talking about, and he makes his lectures applicable to life and nursing specific scenarios. The exams are just like the notes, so you have to go to class and pay attention. I am usually terrible at anything chemistry related, but he made it understandable and enjoyable.
Dr. Datta is without a doubt the smartest man at Kent State. If you take good notes and study them, you will not only get a good grade, but you will learn an amazing amount of biochemistry.
Great professor!! He is funny and very very smart. All of his exams come straight from his notes.
Super great! I took chemistry twice, because I got a C- The first time, but with Datta I got an A. There were ten 10 point home works, and then either 3 or 4 exams!! Each class we did notes, and before exam we would do one day of review. He takes random attendance, but it can only help, not hurt.
Dr. Datta was an excellent professor. Although he was hard to understand at times and his writing on the board was not always clear, he was pretty funny and obviously cared that you learned the material and did well in the class. Attendance is mandatory. Tests are hard and require you to memorize everything. Would take again.
Loved him!! He made class interesting and gives a lot of extra credit. His tests come straight from his notes and nothing else!!
Dr. Datta is passionate about Biochem and he truly wants the students to learn the material and learn how to implement them and not just memorize stuff for the exam sake. He is such a brilliant professor that does not make you feel stupid for asking a question he will come down to your level and explain things in office hours for you. Love him!!!!
Overall this class was pretty easy, but he has a very strong accent and its hard to understand him sometimes. You have to take really good notes in the class because he does not put anything online. Tests were pretty easy for the most part. Attendance is 20 bonus points as well as doing homework. Also he never puts any grades in blackboard.
The only thing to pass this class is taking all good notes and memorizing
He made chem interesting and easy. First time I have ever understood chem so well. Great professor!!
Dr. Datta is a really sweet man. Vert friendly and caring to all students. However, he does not use blackboard, so you have to contact him to know your grade. Lectures are sometimes overwhelming as Dr. Datta is a genius and sometimes goes overboard with the detail and level he teaches at.
Dr. Datta is THE BEST! HIs class is very easy if you do the work. HIs lectures can be long and confusing but just do the notes because before the exam he will tell you what to focus on. Homework and attendance is for extra credit. He is very funny and a kind man, take him if you want an A!
Show up, take notes and study them and its almost a guaranteed A. Guy is the goat.
He is very smart. However he is only teaching because he is a researcher at the campus. He should not qualify as a teacher. He lectures as if it were a graduate class. Many graduate level students have even agree that what we learn is not in grade level. His notes leave you with many open ended questions and no answers. He doesn't explain details.
Dr. Datta is a great professor! Very funny and smart but make sure you sit close to the front because there is a lot of information to write down. Very available outside of class and really wants everyone to do well even though it is a challenging class!!
The class is lecture heavy and you need to study in order to get an A. He has office hours everyday which means he is always accessible to students. At the end you will be proud of completing this course.
Speaks very fast. Hard to understand at first. If you go to his office hours he will go over things with you. Tests are all extended response. Take good notes and you will pass
He is such a funny and knowledgable person. I went into biochemistry thinking I would hate the class and left with a lot of respect for the subject and a desire to do a chemistry minor! Everything he writes is on the test, so if you know your notes, then you know your test. You have to work for your grade but he will reward you for your efforts!
Dr. Datta is quite simply a genius. He gives a lot of notes, and his exams are solely based on the lecture notes, so don't skip class. He has office hours every day and is very helpful. Overall, he just wants you to succeed, so if you pay attention and study, you'll do well.
Dr. Datta was genuinely a great lecturer and tested only over lecture material. Lectures were long and notes were sometimes confusing but if you memorized the material the exams were easy enough. A lot of material for every exam, but there was always bonus. Attendance is a must and good note taking is essential for success.
No powerpoints, no hw, no other outside sources. Just you and your classmates vs whatever Datta has written on the board. 5 exams, with each one just being a pure game of regurgitating whatever he's written. Literally, take good notes, MEMORIZE IT, and then regurgitate it. Dude is a jovial man, can't hear your questions, but is happy to help.
This was my favorite class! Ive learned so much from him and he cares about the subject. Would take him again if I could!
He really is passionate about his class and teaching his students! Participate! It'll help you out in the long run. He writes all of his notes on the board--just make sure you have accurate notes! For his exams, you need to memorize and rewrite his notes. If you don't understand something/need him to slow down, just say so and he will!
Not going to lie, Dr. Datta is tough but not impossible. You MUST go to class, write EXACTLY what he puts on the board, and memorize your notes for the exams. He is a very approachable professor and is willing to help if needed. Youre only graded on tests that have 5-10 extra credit points. So study efficiently, and you will be fine!
One of the toughest teachers Ive ever had but also one of the best! If you dont understand something just go to his office hours and he will tell you whatever you need to know. Tests are only hard if you dont study and take notes. All the test material comes straight from the lectures so dont miss class.
Going to class and taking good, accurate notes is really important for this course! Dattas class can be difficult at times, but he will answer questions and break things down if asked to. Hes also really sweet and made jokes from time to time. Overall, I liked his class and he was a good professor. And he offers opportunities for bonus points!
Datta is a great professor! I have absolutely no issues with the way he teaches. All of his exams are fair, and do not cover anything he did not explain it class. That being said, I took him for biochemistry, a class most hate because of its challenging nature. Be prepared to study a lot, as this class is not an "easy A". Put in the effort.
The tests are the lectures verbatim - write down everything he writes on the board. The tests are easy if you have all the notes, but you need to know the notes very well because there is little time to write everything he wants. Go to every lecture for some easy bonus points.
Overall, awesome professor. Large lectures are difficult because he uses the chalk board and no power points. You must take very detailed notes and memorize them because his exams are basically just regurgitating what was written. As long as you follow that, you'll pas with flying colors! Dr. Datta is super knowledgable and a very genuine guy.
Datta is by far one of the best professors Ive had so far. Dont get me wrong, his class is tough. However, if you take the time to study, it will be a rewarding class. The exams require you to study the notes exactly and reproduce it on the exam. This helps you LEARN the content. He is super kind, nice, and respectful to all of his students!
Dr. Datta was one of my favorite professors I have had at Kent State. He genuinely cared about his students and their success. He always answered questions clearly and made himself available for office hours. The class is tough but its basically pure memorizing the notes and writing them from memory on the exam.
Dr. Datta is a fantastic Professor. Exams are very clearly based off of lecture content. Just take good notes and make sure to know them (including figures) for the exam. Gives extra credit for attendance.
Dr. Datta is an awesome professor. He makes learning interesting and really cares about the students. He is always respectful and kind to us students and is always there to help. While the content itself is not difficult to understand, there is a lot of information but if you really study your notes you'll do amazing!
One of the best professors I have ever taken. Always is available via office hours or email. Very nice and comical. Go to lecture tho because you will need the notes for the tests because its the only resource you have. Only test and attendance for grades.
Definitely my favorite professor!! Super friendly and respectful, always willing to help his students. Explains complicated mechanisms very well, and always willing to re-explain if someone doesn't understand. Bonus points on every exam and for attendance. Go to class and take the notes to succeed in this class!
Tests are based exactly off the notes, so just memorize EVERYTHING. He does not give any handouts, and you have to copy down all of the notes that he handwrites on the chalkboard. I used an iPad which allowed me to keep everything organized, but feel free to form a study group and share notes! He's also super friendly and is very helpful!
Despite a challenging semester for all, Dr. Datta remained committed to his students to provide a positive learning experience. He never hesitated to answer any questions (YOU have to speak up if you have any!) Best advice for this class is to take GOOD notes and devote the time to rewrite, read and study them. I found it helpful to use my surface.
As long as you take good notes in class, you should end up with an A in his class
Dr. Datta is such an inspirational professor, and I wish I could've had him for my other classes. There is a LOT of material, and you NEED to put in the work to understand it all. This class is exceptionally hard! He truly cares about your learning experience, so just talking with him about your concerns will help you a lot. Take good notes!
The class is solely based on memorization. His tests are just like the notes, and EVERYTHING in the notes is on the test. You have to work quickly on the tests because there is not enough time to write everything that he asks. He prefers pictures of words, but only sometimes and he won't tell you which he wants. He also grades very harshly.
Honestly Dr. Datta was by far the best professor. His exams are straight from his lectures. Exams are extremely long as to why I got a B+ and not an A, I didn't have time to finish most of them but overall i would recommend him!
I loved his class, actually a class that requires you to pay attention 100% of the time, and he makes it interesting. Memorize everything, take notes of everything and you will get an A. Miss class, don't take notes and you'll barely pass. Not a class for lazy student
Regardless of what people may say about him, he truly is a great professor that cares about his students. Show up to class and you will do great. His exams are exactly what he puts on the board so as long as you understand it during class, the exams will go well for you. The biggest thing for this course is repetition.
Professor Datta is a great professor. He is lecture heavy but taking not will save your life . I can tell it was harder for me because I took it during the summer and it had to be online because of COVID-19. But he's very nice. He will help you if you ask.
Professor Datta is seriously one of the best professors Ive had! There is a lot of material and he does well making sure you understand! You can tell he really wants you to succeed in the class and is always willing to help! I wish I couldve had him for other classes!
Professor Datta is a very sweet guy. He loves his job very much. However, with this year being online, there were some difficulties. It is extremely hard to understand what he is saying most of the time and students had to rely on each other to understand him. If you do not show up, you will miss out on his notes. The exams ARE his notes!!
Great teacher just a tough course.
A great professor and a very sweet guy!!
Professor Datta is one of the sweetest professors I have ever had. His class is very hard and is only comprised of 4 exams which is difficult but he teaches all the information needed to pass. He is very throughout and so kind. He makes class so fun even though it is lecture based. 10/10 an amazing teacher.
Dr. Datta was a fantastic teacher and was always willing to take time to explain things to students. You have to go to class in order to pass and take good notes. His tests are not bad but they get deeper as the year goes on. If you study and work hard you will pass. He is really passionate about what he does.
Professor Datta is awesome. His class is all lectures, but if you go to class and take good notes there's no way you shouldn't pass. He explains every question and has office hours everyday. He truly cares about his students learning and makes a difficult class a little less difficult. Chem is one of the classes I've stressed least about this year.
The first class you will struggle to understand him but it does get easier over time. He is very knowledgeable and is always there for any questions or concerns
He is one of those professors who gives out lectures and you will have to learn by it with a few homework questions. His lectures and study guides are EXACTLY the same as the exams. However, his lectures may be confusing for others because of his accent and fast paced manner. I personally wouldnt go for round two for this class but easy/helpful.
He is great, required attendance!
Datta is amazing, and his accent takes getting used to but you will be fine. Make sure to take really good notes, there is no book and hardly any homework. He is really good at relating topics to nursing majors, which helped me a lot. Only 3 grades (tests). I would 100% take this class again, Datta is really smart and you are lucky to have him!
If you show up to class and take good notes it's an easy A. Tutoring helps too.
Professor Datta is a wonderful man. He is extremely sweet and loves to help his students. Personally his teaching style isn't for me because its all lecture and exams. Personality wise Professor Datta is a 5/5 but personally his teaching style is 1/5. Im sure his style works great for auditory/visual learners but not for me. However he's amazing.
Professor Datta cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. The class is difficult but if you attend his lectures and take good notes you should pass. Grades come from exams, but he does give extra credit for attendance so go to class!
Mr. Datta was caring, responsive, and overall a wonderful professor. He went above and beyond to be there for us to succeed and also gave us extra credit opportunities. Overall, wonderful man and professor.
This was a great class over all. Professor Datta is a very nice man and a good teacher. It mustve been hard for him to teach a class of 185 all online but he did a great job so kudos to him!
Professor Datta is a very dedicated professor- he is knowledgeable on every topic and explains in a lot of detail. He knows what hes talking about and cares about his students. Lectures are fast pace and as long as you have all of the notes he gives, the class is pretty straight forward. Make sure you pay attention. Only grades are the exams.
This class was rather difficult especially because the only grades were the exams. He is difficult to understand and his notes were most likely illegible. He moves pretty fast and wouldn't change his speed when students asked him to slow down. A very sweet man, a rather tough professor.
Professor Datta is an amazing professor! You can clearly tell he loves his job. Your grade for the class is solely based on tests, but he does offer extra credit which helps tremendously. You must attend lectures or you will not pass!!!
Prof. Datta really was an amazing professor. Easy to access outside of class and available to answer any questions. Chemistry is hard and is not for the faint of hard. You must show up to class and take good notes because there are 4 exams and that is it. It takes a lot of work and if you put in the effort you will be okay but do not fall behind.
Professor Datta is one of the sweetest teachers I've ever met. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches and always tries to be there for you even outside of class. He sends out emails before every single one of his office hours in case you have questions. The only downside being the only graded things are attendance and exams.
Professor Datta is literally the sweetest man 100% recommend!
Prof. Datta is truly a great professor. He answered any and all questions students had in detail, and he always gave us time, every single day, to visit him on his office hours and answer questions or concerns we had. The class exams are based off of the material that he goes over in the lectures, so be sure youre in class. Overall a great class.
Professor Datta has been an excellent teacher online! He offered office hours which gave you the opportunity to speak with him one on one. He was there to help if you needed it and is a really educated chem teacher. Teaches in a manner which makes chemistry seem easy! 100% recommend!
A really great prof! He was always available outside of class if we had any questions. The exams were based on the notes so you have to go to class and take good notes. A really nice guy and was always helpful. I reccommend!
He really tries to involve all of his students and he is always so happy to be teaching. He speaks very fast so make sure if it is an online class that you record or take screenshots of his slides. He is always open to answer questions and LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS!!!
Professor Datta is great, but his class can be difficult if you are new at chemistry. He goes pretty fast and sometimes it is hard to read his notes. He does plenty of office hours which do help though.
Professor Datta is one of the best professors you could ask for. He is very passionate about what he teaches and is always open for questions. As long as you pay attention and study, you will pass. He is such a sweet guy, highly recommend.
Decent class. Need to make sure you attend lectures for extra credit (which you'll need). Only graded from exams and extra credit from attendance. Sometimes hard to understand in online lectures, but he explains everything in detail. Exams are long but he gives a good amount of time on all of them. Overall great guy, but learning material is hard.
Professor Datta was one of my nicest professors this semester. His class is based on lectures only, so if you pay attention and take good notes you will do fine in his class. He had office hours almost every day and was always easy to contact. I would recommend his class.
He was such a sweet professor!!! Sometimes he speeds through lectures and rushes through topics, however if you have a question he is quick to respond to emails and usually pretty good at helping during class time. He takes random attendance so you never know when you are going to be called on , but he is pretty forgiving if something popped up.
Dr. Datta is such a sweet professor! Lecture was hard to follow at times, but he is always eager to answer questions. Overall great guy
Overall really nice and funny professor. I recommend taking him for molecules of life. He spells out what is going to be on the exam and as long as you take good notes you will pass with over 100.
Professor Datta was really kind and caring! He cared about his students and the class was very lecture heavy. I would recommend to take good notes or rewatch his recorded lectures because it will be on the tests! He was also really great with office hours and was available often.
Professor Datta is a genuinely kind and caring character. It was a pleasure to attend his classes. The content is VERY condensed, so be prepared to take lots of notes. He is always willing to help his students through his office hours. This class has a good support structure and is designed to help you succeed.
An amazing prof. He actually takes time to listen to questions and explain them. I had him for molecules of life chem and I have never done well in chem, but with him, I did very well because of how well he explained things. He is very caring and definitely makes sure you understand what he's teaching. If you need more time for exams, he gives it.
Professor Datta is a really nice guy, but I would not take his class again. He doesn't offer any assignments, your grade is based only on attendance and the 4 tests he gives. He lectures, you take your own notes, and go into the test. He does talk really fast so it's easy to miss things. SI sessions are a great idea for this class.
This class is 100% lectures. There is no homework which is nice, but be prepared to do well on the exams because those are your ONLY grades. He does give points for attendance which helps. He is a nice guy and likes what he teaches, but is not always willing to help you solve your problems if you need it.
By far, the worst professor I ever had at Kent. People who take adv. science classes aren't just in it for the grade they genuinely want to learn the material. You will not learn in this class. You will not understand the material. And he will not help you. This professor sets you up for failure. Take it with someone else.
Datta is a great professor for the type of student details of what they are doing, he will require you to memorize entire lectures, and demonstrate a mastery of the material learned, Questions are always welcomed and answered in extrema depth. It is exceptionally easy to take notes, but be warned you will have trouble using preexisting knowledge
I took his intro to biochem class. Honestly, I enjoyed the class. He is very intelligent in the subject and he does care about his students. On the other hand, his tests are very hard. He does give you all the notes you need but you are expected to memorize them word for word and be able to regurgitate it in the tests (all extended response).
Cannot in any way comprehend how people found this professor to be a good professor. He never accommodates anything, is rude, and won't listen to his students. Not to mention good luck on his awful and difficult tests. Avoid this professor at all costs
Excellent professor at kent state. This is the first time I learned Biochemistry. The way professor Datta explained the topics was very helpful to my goal in medical school. Highly recommended. The only thing, make sure to review preexisting knowledge. It will ve very helpful at the beginning.
Dr. Datta was one of the best professors I had at Kent State. I learned so much about Biochemistry. Highly recommended. Make sure to take lots of notes and read them thoroughly for better preparation for the MCAT exam.
You dont use the textbook. The exams were long and awful (all extended response, 5 pages), but in a way, you knew exactly what was going to be on them because you just regurgitate ALL notes verbatim. He will explain things outside of class if you dont understand, but be ready to study, especially if youre not used to extensively studying for exams
Lecture notes were very clear. Lots of notes to read and digest for exams, but it was worth it for learning. Highly recommended. Excellent personality.
He is an amazing teacher. He gives very good lectures and makes the information easy to understand.
Dr. Datta is a professor who definitely knows his material. His accent is difficult at times, but you'll get used to it quickly. If you show up, you'll get extra credit which is really nice. He is open to questions during lectures. If you have to take molecules of life, definitely take Dr. Datta.
I have always done poorly in chemistry until I had professor Datta! He is very generous with bonus points, but his classes are 100% tests. The material can be tough to understand, but if you apply yourself you shouldn't have any problems. He can be very funny in class too!
Worst professor I have ever had, and I have had a LOT of bad professors. Grades completely on exams (no homework), no form of notes other than a chalk board, unclear lectures, and has horrible treatment of students. I emailed him a simple question, and he never answered it and essential treated me as if I had no common sense. Avoid if possible.
Really kind professor. Lectures are very fast, but the test material is straight from the lectures. Attendance is mandatory (bonus points) and you'll need them. Show up every day, take good notes and you will be fine.
Loved this class. You'll walk out at the end of the semester knowing so much for your DAT or MCAT. It is only exam grades, but plenty of bonus from attendance and extra test questions. Exams are fair in difficulty. If you study everything written down/said during lectures, you will get the A. Just study in advance and go to office hours!
Definitely not an easy class... especially if you have trouble understanding thick accents. He's nice enough but is so smart about chem that he has a hard time explaining it to people learning it for the first time. Pay attention as much as you can. Very boring class.
Took him for molecules of life and it was terrible. take online if you can. he takes attendance every class. class is composed of four tests and that's it. so if you fail one sorry about your luck! I will say a positive is he gives 130 extra credit points if you show up to every class. tests are online and he is rude and won't respond to emails/?'s
Took him for Chemistry for Molecules. Needless to say it was awful, attendance is for a grade and there isn't any homework or quizzes. Only 4 EXAMS, if you fail one then you're done. It is as simple as that. He does not post or handout material, the only material you'll have to study is whatever he writes on the chalk board. Avoid if you can.
I took him for Molecules of Life and it has by far been the most difficult class I have ever taken. All he does is writes on a chalk board for an hour and 20 minutes babbling about nonsense that no one understands. He sucks at explaining things and when others ask questions, he's so rude about it. Only 4 tests are your grade. Avoid if possible...
While Professor Datta is a charismatic and nice guy, I found this class to be brutal. I felt like I lost 3 years off of my life after each lecture. He doesn't post any material on Canvas, so you have to rely fully on your notes to study for exams. This is especially hard b/c his handwriting isn't clear and he has a thick accent. Exams are awful.
He is literally adorable. Molecules of life was also really easy as long as you showed up for class. Before each exam he would have reviews and give you clear guidelines of what to study.
this class was harder than it needs to be. After every lecture I felt so confused, but thankful for Molecules of Life, Chem tutors help me out without them and going to his office hours I probably would have failed it. Teaches via the chalkboard very few slides, he also teaches super fast. He also gives extra credit
Hated this with everything in me
he does have a very thick accent which makes him somewhat hard to understand. He starts off teaching with slides then moves strictly to chalkboard. he takes attendance which gives you some points but if you dont show you will have absolutely no clue, tutors can only help you so much. does a review day before exams and tells EXACTLY what on exam
It's a little difficult to understand him at first, but I definitely got used to it. SI is really helpful for this class. This class covers a variety of many different types of chemistry, and some bonus is offered for attendance. I felt lost during lecture most of the time, but it's easy to find online resources to help with studying.
Lectures are mandatory and attendance is taken for a grade (missing will leave you very behind). He goes very fast so be ready to take a lot of notes. He posts slides but most of the material needed for tests will be written on his chalk board or stated by him in class. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE THE TEXTBOOK FOR MOLECULES OF LIFE!!!(never use it)
His class was great, although his hand writing can be difficult to read. It is so worth it to take it in person with him. He cares about how you are doing in his class and will try his best to help you. Tutoring offered is great and if you have additional questions go to his office hours. he is so kind. don't talk or use phones while he is teaching
Professor Datta's class is a challenge, but engaging with his teaching style pays off. Attend every lecture, take detailed notes, and use resources like Molecules of Life and unstuckstudy AI to excel. The extra effort is worth it for this valuable course.
Datta is very hard to understand. He has a heavy accent but throughout the course you get used to it. He doesn't necessarily "teach", he just writes things on the board and expects you to understand. On top of that, his handwriting is very difficult to read. On the bright side, he gives extra credit just for being in class which saves your grade.
Although Professor Datta is very intelligent and passionate about what he teaches, NOBODY could understand him the entire semester. Your grade will be made of the 4 exams and extra credit for attendance which is MANDATORY. Your notes will make no sense due to no context ever being given, only material. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.
Honestly he wasn't bad at all he gives no homework. After you get done taking the exam you see your score the only thing is he has a heavy accent so you have to sit in the front to understand him more, but besides that his class wasn't bad at all.
He was my favorite professor this semester. He starts off with slides but then moves to mainly writing on the chalkboard. Everything he writes down is important to be ready. Overall super nice and for the majority explains everything thoroughly. Attendance is a lot of your grade and shows up as extra credit so show up to every class if you can.
we get extra for attendance. barely speaks English and it doesn't get better. lectures were very confusing and didn't make sense. he just wrote bs on the board most of the time. only reason I was able to get a high grade was bc of SI sessions that Kent provided otherwise I would've failed terribly. don't take him he doesn't make SENSE & he mumbles
Data is an amazing professor. It can sometimes be hard to understand him during lectures but the attendance extra credit will boost your grade a ton. His tests are fully based off of the lecture and if you go to the SI test reviews the kahoots usually had almost every test question on it. Overall it was still a hard class but taught extremely well.
so sweet but definitely expects his students to know what theyre learning about
Dr. Datta is a fun and humorous professor. He does all of the lectures straight off the dome and just writes stuff on the chalkboard. The class is graded purely on exams, but every exam has bonus points added automatically and attendance is bonus, too. The exams are very challenging but fair. Make sure you make friends in case you miss a day!
Dr. Datta is an amazing biochem professor. His exams are straight from his lectures. Write down what ever he is explaining on the board. If possible too, try not to miss class. If you show up all semester, he gives 25 bonus points for attendance. It is hard class, but if you work hard and study smart, you can do well in his class.
Actually the worst and hardest class I've ever taken. The amount of structures and drawings needed to be remembered for the exams is actually ridiculous and laughable. Even with lots of studying, it is almost impossible to do decent on the exams unless you have a photographic memory.
He does not help during office hours. You have to sit there and copy what he writes on the board, then memorize it. You learn practically nothing; you memorise useless information. Very difficult to sit through the lectures.
Great professor, very nice and explains content clearly, but goodness are his exams difficult. The questions come straight from lecture, but the lecture is very fast and the amount of content you need to know is jarring. Took this as an elective because it sounded cool. Ended up fighting for my life. Would not reccomend taking if you don't have to.
Dr. Datta is an extremely nice professor. His exams are a direct copy of the lectures however there is a vast amount of information to strictly memorize and rewrite, upwards of 60 pages of notes per exam. This strictly memorization based teaching does not help prepare for exams like the MCAT, DAT, etc. Lecture is all hand drawn on the chalk board.
