THANK YOU PROF. CAINE!!!! I have never enjoyed a class as much as his and I have never respected a professor as much as him. Thank you for a little breath of fresh air amongst the smog. Caine is genuinely interested in teaching to better his students-not himself. He made me want to come to class and
CAINE IS AMAZING!He is clear, organized, funny.I never missed one class because I loved it so much.Material is challenging but he presents it wonderfully and makes studying for the midterm and final easy with his outlines.I know you're reading this Caine-so thank you,you are an incredible professor!!!
The best you will find in the psych department. Excellent class, you will never want to miss it. If anyone wrote anything negative about him here, disregard it, they are probably idiots.
The best teacher i have had at BU. Even if you aren't interested at first he will make you interested. It was easy to study with his outlines so I did well on the tests and i actually remember the material. Definately take this class if you can.
Its relieving to see that BU actually has a prof that can teach and is motivated to do so. He takes time out of his schedule to teach here and meet with you if you need it. The class is very interesting and some work is involved but every managable. I think BU would be making a grave mistake if they let him go.
By far the best teacher I have had in my entire life. If BU lets him go, this will be a bigger mistake then giving Goldin almost $2 million for nothing. The class was easy, BUT i learned so much. I think and KNOW that every student at BU should take ps 333 with Barak. If the class is full, fight your way in, otherwise you will regret it.
This guy is simply a great teacher. The material is presented very clearly and he speaks at a rate at which everyone can understand him. He shows movie clips, draws diagrams, and provides little stories to help you remember everything. I never see anyone not paying attention in his class. He's probably the best professor I've ever had.
Caine is an excellent professor; he presents material clearly and concisely while still engaging students' interest. Take his class!
Dr. Caine is amazing. If other professors are reading this, PLEASE take a page out of Barak Caine's book... forget it... please take his whole damn book.
Caine is a great professor, lectures are clear, interesting and relevant videos, no suprises on exams or quizzes, actually wants students to do well in his course which should be the case with more professors
Professor Caine is awesome. His class made a huge impact on me and actually got me into pharmacology (and animal behavior). BU should hire more professors like him. Don’t miss this class. You will learn a lot from him ! BTW he is super hot.
I didn't know what to expect when I signed up for his class, but he turned out to be the most amazing professor I've ever had. I don't know anyone who doesn't enjoy his class. Materials can be challenging, but you will get a good grade if you actually put into the efforts!
It's rare to find a class that's both this interesting and thorough and this easy to succeed in. He tells you exactly what you need to know (and the info you need to know is interesting, clear, and infinitely useful). Also taught me I could buy over the counter ephedrine in asthma medicine! Have someone save you a seat- registration fills up fast
Prof. Caine is awesome!!! Even as a second-semester senior, you couldn't pay me to skip this class! He tells a lot of funny stories from college that apply to the class (wink, wink). He's the kind of guy that you'd want to drink with! You also learn a ton and he makes it really easy for you to do well if you put in a little effort.
Prof. Caine is a good guy. He gives good outlines and you don't need the book because he explains everything so well. His tests are pretty straightforward and the quizzes prepare you well for the tests. He also tells pretty good stories.
Yeah this is one of the best classes I've taken at BU, Prof. Caine is a wonderful professor- knowledgeable, very clear, interesting, fair, and organized, but what's with the chili pepper? I mean he's a nice looking guy, but I don't think "hot" quite describes it
Caine is amazing. Simply amazing. Everyone does so well because he gets people to come to class and he teaches so well. I cant believe how much I learned and I had fun doing it. He is a great asset to BU. FIGHT to get in!
Just incredible. His in-depth explanations and knowledge (not to mention his fun stories) made this class one I will remember far after graduation.
Such an incredible class! I went in with high expectations and I wasn't disappointed. Definitely one of the best classes I've taken at BU. If you can, TAKE THIS CLASS! His outlines are extremely helpful, he keeps you interested with relevant stories and he's just a really cool guy who actually cares about his students. That's rare at BU.
Awesome professor! Incredibly knowledgeable about what he is teaching. Genuinly cares about his students and what he does. A truly great professor. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Excellent professor! Lectures were interesting and straightforward. Gives out lecture outlines in class that are a huge help for the exams. Don't really need the book, and he even says that it's optional to buy. Very entertaining lecturer, with very funny his personal stories. Definitely take this class if you can get in! Best BU psych prof I've ha
This is one of my fav professor of my college career. He is so funny and smart. He is always telling funny stories that apply to the material. He gives out outlines so you dont need to take notes. He structures the class so that you succeed. If you have the oppertunity to take his class- do it-- you will find it rewarding and enjoyable.
This was my best psych course at BU. Prof. Caine is extremely knowledgeable about drug testing: he works in a lab with rats all day. This psych class takes a very scientific perspective where you are learning exactly how drug companies test and approve drugs for the public as well as information about recreational drug use. Every lecture was great.
He is a very intelligent and cool guy. He's clear and insightful. My favorite class ever. He's got the brains, the looks, and personality, wish I married him. Take his class, you will not be dissapointed.
rawr :)achem...well i think most people agree with me here...what a wonderful prof who actually cares about his students. if only bu could find more professors like him, theres a good chance i wouldnt hate this school as much haha.
One of BU's best. (Okay, fine, I think Harvard actually boasts "possession" of him.) But Barak is incredibly cool. You'd never know the guy sits and plays with rats all day. If you go to class, you will walk out of there knowing an amazing amount about psychopharmacology. He's severely allergic to being on time, but he's hilarious and very fair.
This professor really knows how to teach. He loves to share his knowledge, enthusiastic, energetic, funny, confident, and down to earth. His lectures are well structured, organized, clear and his outlines are extremely helpful. The course might seem a bit intimidating at first, but trust him. You won't be disappointed.

He sets the new bar for psychology professors. His drawings and explanations are clear and entertaining. You will need a Caine-Antagonist because you WILL enjoy the class and learn alot. His exams and quizzes are extremely fair, and as long as you pay attention and take notes, which you will want to pay attention anyways, it will be AMAZING.
Caine is an awesome professor; I came in the class to fulfill a requirement, and I loved it so much I now want to study pharmacology when I graduate. He is chill, enthusiastic, and he really encourages class discussion. Plus, he's not out to fail you, he just wants you to learn. I would say definitely, definitely take the class.
AWESOME!!!!!!! If you go to class and take notes you will ace the quizes and finals. Extremely easy because quiz questions are oftern repeated on the final and midterm. He is the coolest guy and really gets you interested plus he is way good looking to look at for a few hours a week!!!! :)
Enthusiastic and funny! Keeps class engaged and goes on interesting tangents with the class discussion. Unorthodox in that he is clear and not out to trip you up. The tests are clear and easy if you pay attention because he tells you what's important so you can concentrate on learning and not the test. Great class!
single best class at BU. caine prevented me from dropping my psych minor and writing off the department as useless and uneducated.
loved caine's class. he explains detailed material very clearly and makes it INTERESTING. i recommend this class to any and everyone.
Without a doubt the best professor I've ever had at BU. During the summer, class was 3 hours long and I honestly can say I didn't want it to end. We went out after the final to lament the class ending. I wish he taught every psych class at BU! Most professors could take a lesson from this man.
absolutely amazing!!!! you will regret not taking his class. made the subject so interesting and very easy to get an A. no textbooks, very simple. he explains everything so well!!! LOVED his class!!
Very straightforward. Gives quizzes that boost your grades. Clear about material and about what he expects. Willing to explore more advanced material outside class. Puts a lot of time into the class and really cares about being helpful. Very fair grader. Overall an amazingly reasonable, excellent professor. Probably the best in the psych dept.
Barak is the man. He makes everything easy to understand, and will explain anything if you ask. By the end every class wants to be his favorite, unfortunately we only made #2. An awesome class, by far my favorite prof. at BU, too bad hes from Harvard.
Caine is great BUT GO TO CLASS! He gets mad when you come up to get outlines because you missed class. It is a very interesting class so there is no real not to go. He is very straight forward and a no non-sense professor. Very easy to get an A if you study the outlines and go to class.
WARNING: If you want to go through college believing all your teachers are and will be competent and helpful, don't take class. Dr Caine has tendency to surpass all expectations. Subsequently, all other professors will seem dull and not helpful. He is and will be best teacher you will ever have. Think before you sacrifice other teachers reputations
I don't know how to sum up all of the ways this guy is great in a little text box. Lecture was straightforward, organized, & very clear. He hands out an outline for each lecture topic. Exams were straight from the lecture, don't bother buying the textbook, just go to class. Seniors didn't catch seniorittis for this class, probably b/c its amazing
Un-freakin-believable professor. very clear, very consistent, VERY helpful. Best professor I have ever had, and that's not an exaggeration. He loves participation so speak up. Greatest professor ever.
After two years at BU, best professor I've ever had. Learned a lot because of his teaching methods. Outlines (very helpful) handed out for each lecture/chapter. Review guides (very helpful) handed out before midterm and final. Go to class so you don't miss quizzes. He was always willing to answer questions and did not rush through lecture. Best eve
Best Professor, Best Class I've had at BU. Hands down. Do your work and you'll do well. He is a great and clear teacher. Professor Caine is awesome.
wow... I wish all classes at BU were taught by Caine. Like all the comments on here: best professor at BU, hands down.
Caine is the best that BU could ever have. He has opened my life to DRUGS!He loves drugs and if you take this class you will love everything about drugs. I am a neuroscience major and after this class I have alot of interst in drug research. God bless a professor like him. Take his class for the best BU experience
I love this class hand down best professor ever! His teaching methods allow me to actually retain the information, unlike most of my other classes where i just forget what i learned after an exam.
Definitely one of the best teachers I have EVER had. I took him over the summer, and it was a 3 hour class in a room with no windows. I caught myself looking at the clock often--not because I wanted to leave, but because I wanted to spend MORE time there learning. I can't say I've ever had a teacher do that for me in the past.
I loved this class, and would take any class that Caine would teach
loved this class. ALOT. After his class I considered double majoring in neuroscience. :DDDDDD
Caine is very, very knowledgeable on the topic of drugs and behavior and he makes the class very interesting and easy to understand. He is a demanding professor and you HAVE to go to class. He can sometimes be very moody and sometimes seems rude to the students.
Certainly one of the best professors I've had so far throughout my college career. Prof. Caine's knowledge and enthusiasm about his study is nothing less than infectious and it's difficult no to find this class interesting. Excellent education philosophy, very knowledgeable and open to students; this class is a great intro to pharmacology.
Never had a better lecture: entertaining, informative, and to the point. I get the impression that people who take this class remember a lot afterward. Definitely an asset to BU.
Amazing prof! One of best classes I ve ever taken. No book, just outlines. GO TO the CLASS and u ll get an A! 10 quizzes, midterm and the final. TAKE THIS CLASS with HIM! He explains everything SO WELL!! and he makes u fall in love with the stuff he talks about even if u werent interested in them at all;)
Caine is the man and he knows it. His class is really fun and..hey..you get to learn about drugs. His quizzes are fair and if you go to class they're easy A's. I can't think of anything bad to say about Caine, except he's about 5 minutes late, every other class. TAKE THIS CLASS! (or whatever new neuro class Caine is teaching)
this was by far the best class i have ever taken at BU. TAKE THIS CLASS!
He is the best professor I've had in Boston University. He made learning about drugs very interesting and entertaining. I love his stories and he brings a realistic aspect to the course. I recommend that everyone should take his class.
favorite class at BU and by far the best professor i have had here. take this class!
One of the most stimulating professors I've ever had and one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. Barak is the MAN.
great professor. makes neuroscience and drugs really fun.easy and fair class if you attend the lectures. his stories are relevant honest and fun.
Incredible class, Caine was nothing if not engaging and passionate during each of his lectures. Sure, his personality is intense and at times egoistic, but I think that's part of what makes him a fantastic lecturer. Caine's class showed me how awesome neuropharmacology is and how eager I am to invest more time in it. I highly recommend his class.
Caine is intelligent, funny, and engaging.People say his course is easy, but that's only because he focuses on teaching the important points.I've taken many 'hard' courses where I had to memorize tons and tons, and in the end I learned nothing. I've learned so much from this 'easy' class thanks to Caine's awesome teaching style.Highly recommended.
Dr Caine is one of the best professors at BU. He is engaging, encourages participation, and makes learning achievable. If I could take more classes with him I would. He tells interesting stories and gives outstanding insight into cutting edge research and pharmacology.
It's amusing that many of the negative reviews that were just here yesterday have been taken off. Great lecturer, makes lecture fun, clearly passionate, but is also always late, gets angry at students for asking clarifying questions, and goes off tangent a lot. Still a great class, definitely a top pick for the group A classes
One of BU's finest. He made it possible for me to actually like neuro/pharmacology, which I always thought was psychs dry spot. Great lecturer/entertainer with a natural ability to make things clear/relatable. If people are complaining (god knows why) that the class is too easy, its probably because he makes you always wanna attend and listen!!
Professor Caine is awesome. He loves to encourage class participation and loves input from his students. He's not harsh at all, though some believe he is. He gives us the best and clearest answers to know on the final. Amazing clarity. Great teaching.
Caine is pretty awesome. I went into the class with close to zero neuro/pharmacology knowledge and left with a bunch. Tons of o"bang for my buck" as far as psych classes at BU go. Didn't find it extremely easy like some but would still highly recommend this class.
Professor Cain is the man. Just because he does nto give us 500 exams in order to trick us, and only give us information we need to know, it does not make hsi class easy. He truly cares about his students and covers interesting topics. He explains pharmacology in a way that everyone can learn and retain even after the class is over
Professor Caine is a great teacher who truly cares about his students and wants them to do well. I didn't know anything about the brain or drugs and Caine made the class iteresting so I came out knowing a lot. Take this class! You won't regret it.
Professor Caine is definitely one the most down to earth professors I've ever had. His test questions are extremely clear, to the point where he goes out of his way to make sure you understand exactly what he's looking for. The video clips he shows in class are interesting, and his tangents make him more relatable. PS He works out and it shows ;)
HE IS AWESOME!!!! Reminds me of "House" in professor form
Great information, even better stories. If you love drugs, or even if you want to know more about that pharmacological world, TAKE HIS CLASS! You won't be disappointed.
Really fun class, and he gives you all the outlines so you will pretty much do well on all the quizzes. The tests are harder though. Sometimes he wears leather pants and talks about his sex life, so just a heads up. It might be jarring.
He is by far the best professor I have had at BU! Even though he does not require you to attend class, you will want to go since his lectures are so entertaining. He provides you with clear outlines, but going to class was worthwhile since he tends to emphasize certain things and tells great stories which will help you remember the material.
Dr. Caine is bar non one of the best professor's I've had at BU. He is clearly passionate about what he does, and it shows in the quality of the lecture he delivers. The material covered is objective, and he is constantly asking for feedback which really helps to relate to what your learning. If there's one thing you must do at BU, take his class!
I can't say there is another class at BU that has gotten me as interested as Barak's. He loves what he does and it shows. You don't have to be a neurologist to understand what he's teaching either. PS333 is not an easy topic, but with a fair amount of studying and attending lectures, its easy to do very well. I love Barak<3
I definitely learned alot from PS101 and it is a good introductory course to Psychology. Caine is a really interesting and helpful professor who will always make time for you and is great at explaining his concepts -- he knows his field extremely well. I would recommend his class to any BU student looking into psychology as a course of study.
Barak is nothing short of awesome!! His lectures are crystal clear, and his presence delivering lectures really makes the topics covered more interesting. He is very responsive and open to conversation! Take his class!
I took Intro Cog Neuro with Caine this past summer, and I am taking PS333 now. I was not looking forward to taking any of the groupA classes, so Caine has been a blessing for me! In PS202 I learned SO much thanks to his clear teaching style. He could improve by arriving to class on time though; BU is too expensive plus class is only 50min long!
Guy knows his stuff, great lecturer, makes it interesting and is clear on what you need to know. Highly recommended
best professor i have ever met!! clear and interesting lecture. The only lecture that i can weak up at 7 to take! Exam is easy. all from the handout he gives. funny guy
Tells great stories and definitely knows his stuff. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should go b/c 1) you need to take quizzes 2) it's on the test 3) he's a really great lecturer. Books are recommended but not required. Grades based on midterm + final + 10 quizzes + EC. Midterm and quizzes were easy. Final was tricky. EC is optional.
Everyone loves him, but I wasn't the hugest fan. He dragged on a bit in lecture a lot and made it clear that he prefers teaching his PS333 class. And that he's a behaviorist. Despite that, he is a very interesting guy and tells good stories. The class itself was too vague, but I guess that is expected from a 101 course.
He really likes teaching and getting class input. He's funny and nice and he really wants and likes when students come to office hours. He tries to explain concepts so everyone can understand them. He gives handouts and study guides for every test but you should still go to his class. Get to know him.
Caine is kind of a rockstar. Hard to not pay attention in lecture, because he was extremely compelling. Definitely knows how to teach. You really don't need the book for this class, although it is interesting if you're into that kind of thing. Grading straightforward - if you pay attention in class you won't have to do much work otherwise.
This guy is amazing! Couldn't have had a better psych teacher - his examples in class are really funny and easy to relate to. He makes the class enjoyable and everyone seems to love him. Everyone I know loves him and his class - either PS 101 or drugs and behavior. Whatever psych it is- TAKE HIM you won't regret it.
This was his first time teaching this course. Just study the outlines and practice questions via discussions, and you'll be fine. The material is dry, but he tries to make it interesting. He loves discussion and is always available via email and office hours.
Professor Caine's class was super enjoyable and easy to follow. He provided us with all the materials we would need to succeed in his class and made sure to give real world, relatable examples of the topics we discussed. I highly recommend him as a professor.
Professor Caine is AMAZING. He is super friendly, approachable and genuinely wants his students to succeed! He sets the course up so that you do well granted you follow the outlines and pay attention in class. He is a rebel in that he does not believe curving to BU standard - a C. He believes what you earn is what you get. Love Caine. THE BEST!!!!
The class gets more interesting towards the end. I recommend reading the book in the beginning when you're learning about theories, but about halfway through the course, you don't need the book anymore. Professor Caine wants his students to do well and will explain anything you don't understand.
MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR AT BU!!!
Best professor i've been with. Attend class go to discussion sections and study a bit and you'll get An A with no doubt. He even told us 50% of his students recieve A's
Professor Caine is really awesome.Reviewing with his outlines and ppt, you will definitely get a straight A. Remember! Most exam questions are from quizs in discussion classes, so take them
Caine is super nice and will help you out on anything. Didnt even purchase the textbook and still got an A. Don't need to go to any lectures. Just look at his slides online and the outline he gives you and its an easy A.
This was an easy class for me but, I don't appreciate that people who don't know half as much as I do get the same grade as me. He is actually a smart and funny professor and he can teach better. He could cite more research rather than wasting so much time on personal stories. He is also super cocky and kind of mean during office hours.
Dr. Caine's research is interesting and his enthusiasm inspiring. Sadly, his class is remedial and briefly introduces pharmacology. The fact that the average on the midterm is about a 90% demonstrates that there is a lack of any real challenge. I had high hopes for this class, but if you want to learn something take it with Kantak or Hasselmo.
Fantastic teacher! It has so far been the most interesting class I have taken at BU, and he really wants you to learn and do well! Would seriously recommend!
Professor Caine really knows what he is talking about. And he really tries his best to make Psychology of learning as interesting as it can be. Sometimes he will talk about some hard concepts without making sure everyone understand what he is talking about during his lecture, however his tests are easy. A good class in general.
One of the best professors I've ever had at BU. The man is so incredibly intriguing that it is a challenge not to pay attention. He genuinely cares about his students and will constantly solicit feedback. He presents the most interesting and prevalent information; rather than bombarding you with every possible useless detail regarding drugs.
Dr. Caine's obvious enthusiasm and extensive knowledge in the field makes this by far the most engaging course I have taken at BU. As oppose to the many BU psych professors who expect students to memorise chunks of the textbook for the tests, Caine uses a more lively approach via class discussions from which you can learn an incredible amount.
One of the best if not the best prof. at BU. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well. He doesn't try to trick you, or give you useless info that you don't need to know. Anyone who believes that he doesn't teach pharmacology is 100% wrong. Very cool, and very intriguing lecturer. If you don't take this class you missed out.
I really enjoyed this class. Everybody coming into Caine's courses should know what to expect. For the students who don't appreciate his style of teaching, please do not take the spot of someone who really would. You'll learn as much as you put in. The complaining students should pop an alprazolam and relax because Caine's a great professor.
Caine truly is the most intellectual and passionate professor I have had here at BU. If you want to learn everything there is to know about drugs, he is the man who you should speak with. His anecdotes are not only entertaining but are essential for how I remember everything so well when I leave class.
He is a very fair grader. You can tell he loves teaching and is very, very knowledgeable about the topic taught (drugs and behavior). He really care about his students and tries to do what's best for them. He's very organized and if you're into neurobio, you'll like the class.
I think this site asks the wrong questions, or at least doesn't ask all the questions it should. If the site asked if the professor is knowledgeable about the topic, cares, about his students, able to meet outside of class, cares about students, etc, he would have a perfect rating.
Caine is absolutely amazing. His teaching style is certainly unique and his personal anecdotes really help you consolidate the content. From day 1 you can tell Caine has a passion for the material, a quality I only wish every professor had.
Dr. Caine is by far one of the best professors I've had. He's incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and very fair in terms of what he expects from his students. This might be the only class I've ever had where I didn't have to study tons before a final because you leave class each day actually having LEARNED something substantial. I recommend it.
Awesome teacher. Probably one of the best teachers I've had. He makes you learn information that is actually interesting and that you will remember long after this class. To those who feel it's too easy, you're probably just a masochistic premed. I'd rather learn relevant info than which receptor does what with which drug. Keep teaching!!!
Definitely one of the few professors that I've had who truly cares that we learn something. Exams are fair and straightforward. Caine is a professor everyone at BU should take a class with
Dr. Caine is one of the best professors I had at BU. If you want to learn everything there is to know about drugs, take this class with CAINE. He is very fair in grading and truly cares about his students. He frequently uses anecdotes to explain concepts. Simply put, he is a dope professor (no pun intended).
Caine is the man! Damn, the guy has passion for what he teaches. It's infectious! Take this class and discover a whole new world. I wish every professor was this fearlessly passionate about their field of interest. I would highly recommend this course. Trust me, you'll learn a lot.
Best professor at BU. NOT an easy A. You have to actually study to get anything above an 85. Caine is enthusiastic, clear, and really cares about what his students think of his teaching.Take this class even as an elective if you can. Worth the time and effort! Love you Professor Caine! Keep teaching!
As a senior, I am typiclly less motivated than the rest of the class. However, I really enjoyed PS101. I went to every single lecture as Professor Caine was very informative and he was the kind of professor I liked. (passionate and genuinely a nice guy) I easily got an A after going to lectures, going to discussions, and reviewing the outlines.
Caine is fantastic. He is very good at teaching the basics of psychology, and the best part is that he genuinely wants his students to excel in the course. The class is very interesting and it has inspired me to take higher level psychology courses at BU. Caine is friendly, approachable, and all around awesome. Definitely an attainable "A" class.
Dr. Caine explodes w/ passion in this class. The material is dense, but he makes it obvious what you should study. There's a quiz for each outline (20% of grade), so the 2 tests are not super stressful. The material is educational (i.e pharmacology analgesics, opioids), but the awesome stuff comes at the end. If you like neuro/drugs take the class!
He's awesome! He is so nice and he truly wants you to succeed. Participate often in class to get points. The discussion quizzes and his notes are super helpful. The book isn't necessary. Absolutely one of the greatest teachers I had, and my favorite at BU!
Really great class, especially for summer term. Quizzes & midterms could not be more straight forward. Dr. Caine is extremely fair & passionate about the material, his personality isn't for everyone but it doesn't get in the way of appreciating the course. Learned a lot!
Very expressive and passionate about this subject and clearly wants to help us do well. All exams are multiple choice and fill in the blank, which was nice but I sometimes found the questions on the exams to be confusing but he gave good examples. I also found the McKim textbook to be helpful. Overall a good prof. Would take a class with him again.
The professor is awesome. He knows a lot and makes sure you know a lot. But, I had a few problems with the course. 1. we did not get one grade back until after our exams so I had no idea what my standing was the entire course. 2. the exams were tricky...although I studied hard i still didn't do well on some quizzes and exams. bus Barak rocks!
Incredible professor, probabaly the best at BU. He is amazing at what he does, is able to stimulate interest and almost wills you to work harder. I was quite apprehensive about this course at first, but after two weeks, it became my favorite course, and I even started excelling more than others. That is the affect professor Caine has on you...
Professor Caine is phenomenal. I took this course over the summer and had it twice a week for three hours and never lost focus. I learned more from this course than I ever could have imagined. It is material that I have applied already while shadowing doctors. This should be a pre-med requirement.
I absolutely LOVED this class. Prof Caine really loves what he does and it shows. He loves class discussion. The outlines are straightforward, but you'll want to go to class. I found the class easy because he made it interesting and taught well.
Best course to get used to studying at college in general. From time to time he gives you pre-quiz, allowing you to know where you need to study specifically. Even if you don't need it, you should take this course; my ability to learn materials have definitely doubled. But anyways, it's interesting as hell.
One of the best psychology professors I had at BU. Too bad he is only a visiting scholar from Harvard. He is passionate about this class. I took the class over the summer so it was very dense. 3hr every other day, but stayed focused all the time! Lots of work. It's not an easy A, but 100% worth the time and I learnt a lot!!
Pretty sure Caine is writing his own ratings on here, so be wary! Caine is a good teacher, but for some reason PS234 is very boring! I suggest taking another one of his courses.
Easy class and funny guy. Warning:he doesn't actually care about any of his student. He's in a state of perpetual rush. He is always 40 minutes late to appointments and will then go 'Can we make this quick? I need to be somewhere.' He's unreliable. I'd still take his class though. He's crazy easy and he's funny so personal contact isn't needed.
This class isn't an automatic A, but it's not difficult to earn one. Attend lectures and study notes for 5 minutes before quizzes/30 minutes before tests. Questions are based on outlines. They're word documents on blackboard, so you can take notes right on them. He's busy but always talks to students after class & office hours. Passionate & funny
Pretty awesome. Sometimes a little TMI with his examples. Overall, a solid class.Interesting note about the easiness- while the class is pretty easy, you will learn a ton and retain a ton.
Very clear in his lectures. Some sections of the material tend to go a little slow because of that since he really wants to make sure you understand the more complicated things, but it's still very interesting nonetheless. Just go to lecture and discussion and you'll do well. Lectures were very rarely boring.
I didn't expect to enjoy this class as much as I did. Prof manages to keep it interesting while still making sure we learned a ton. Class is 2 30 question midterms and a 40 question final, attend discussion and study the outlines and the exams are no problem. Great class, would recommend. Probably the best group A class you can take.
His class is extremely easy, definitely take it for an easy A. He gives out quizzes that have questions that will be on the exams.
Dr. (co)Caine is one of the top professor at BU. Drugs & behavior is his most interesting class. I took the class over the summer it's been the best class i've taken so far. His exam question wording is tricky. I think the BU administration hates him for letting too many people in the class and giving too many A's but he's too good to let him go!
By far one of the best professors at BU. He is so inspiringly passionate about his class and his work, it is honestly infectious. I never even considered skipping this class. Definitely take a class with him!!
My favorite professor I've had thus far at BU. He's a passionate guy and it shows, he teaches based on recognition so even exams aren't hard if you go to lecture (though I do recommend studying). Overall he makes psychology interesting and fun and even though there is hard material the man has a talent for making even the boring stuff fun.
This is why people attend college . . . to take a class with a Prof like SBC.
Awesome guy, any class with Caine is an easy A. He even talks about his 'ratings on ratemyprofessor' so he actually reads these things. If you have a class with him, discussion is more useful than lecture. Great guy, easy class. Not a lot of work per week. Maybe 10 hours of studying per test (with no other work in the semester)
Took him for PS101 and the material is pretty similar. Definitely an easy A if you attend and take the discussion quizzes! Exam questions are taken directly from these quizzes. Interesting class and awesome professor.
I found him disappointing this semester. The Prof got off track often with questions from the class that could have been asked in office hours. A lack of ppt slides made info hard to follow. The final exam was needlessly difficult despite studying and 1/5 of the material (outlines 9,10) were not covered in enough detail in class due to wasted time.
Was expecting more from Caine. He became quite disorganized. Wished he was more on track
Caine started off slow which made him rush the last few outlines and expected us to know beyond what was taught. Upon request, he made the class harder unfortunately. But he lets you record his lectures which is why I survived. His midterm was easy but final was hard. It will be challenging folks if you think it's going to be easy.
Does not use text book. Attendance is not mandatory but to get a good grade you must go to discussion. Practice quizzes are SO helpful, but are only given during discussion.
I needed a Social Science class so I took this because I heard it was easy. I attended lecture twice, but went to all the discussions to take "practice quizzes". never read, just listened in discussion, got a B. Super easy class. Take it if you need a social science. oh yeah and Cain is great
Great teacher! Very passionate about the subject, and really cares for his students.
Barak is the man!
THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAVE IN BU. His lecture are absolutely fun and extremely helpful. If there is a professor that can really give you an A at your first semester in college, that would be Caine. Take his class.
Really great professor. Love him!
He gets off topic a lot and goes on lots of tangents not related to the material at all. He very quickly says key terms and expects that you catch what he says. You must attend lecture and there is no reference for you to go to if you miss any of it. His exams got a lot harder ever since apparently his bosses told him to make them harder.
By far the best professor at BU. He is VERY passionate about teaching, a real educator. Not only did he explain complex concepts well, but he also got me thinking and forming my own opinions about the topics we learned in class. Amazing.
really interesting, personable, funny guy. lectures are really engaging. If you go to every lecture and take decent notes or at least pay attention to the things he emphasizes, its an easy A. I wish I could take this class again, its awesome, never missed a lecture.
Interesting class- literally never skipped it once, which says a lot for me! No textbook. Instead, he hands out 'outlines' (which have almost all the info you need for tests) and scientific articles. It's not a difficult class at all. He lets you know exactly what to expect for tests and quizzes. Easy to get an A, but I honestly learned a lot.
He is very respectful to students; I felt like an equal. I disagree with whoever said he makes you feel dumb for asking questions. I felt like he greatly appreciated all questions. I liked how we had more of a discussion than a lecture. I actually really enjoyed going to this class. I learned a lot without having to worry about my grade.
THE MAN! I have taken all his classes that fit into my schedule. He respects his students, keeps the class interested and really cares about what he teaches. I have already taken 3 classes with him and would not hesitate to drop one of my registered classes if he ends up teaching one I haven't taken yet (which is what I did this semester.)
By far one of the toughest courses I've taken at BU. The course is based on a lot of neuroscience. Attend lectures, take detailed notes (he will give you great outlines of key information), and ask a lot of questions and you will be fine. Dr. Caine is a brilliant professor and there is never a dull moment in his lectures.
Great professor. He really knows his stuff and his lectures are engaging. You can tell he really cares about his students and their interest in psychology. I didn't have to use the textbook at all because he knows how to explain things in such a way that they're easy to remember. Three midterms ( lowest one dropped) and a final exam.
Professor Caine was a great teacher. Even though it was just an intro class, he made the material really interesting. He's also really funny and nice. It's a great class to take if you're interested in psych.
Sooooooo easy but I still felt like I learned so much. If you engage with the material in class and really make yourself a known presence in the classroom, there is no way he won't notice and he will give you the participation points you want.
You only need to show up to lectures on the days where he gives practice quizzes. Use his outlines and practice quizzes to study and you'll be chillin. No textbook either.
Turned out to be one of my favorite classes this semester. Tip: I would seriously recommend attending all lectures. A good amount of the questions on the exams are from what he says in class. Plus, class is really enjoyable.
I took this class my freshman year. Only class I ever got a C in. It was awful. Made my GPA drop. I studied a lot for the tests (read, index cards, etc). Still failed. Not clear in lectures even though he thinks he is. Would not recommend. COM students stay away.
He is a very helpful professor that loves thinking about psychology
Best teacher I've had at BU. Caine really cares about the subject which makes the students so much more interested. Attend all the lectures, study for the quizzes and you can end up with an A. Very helpful during office hours, but you should definitely attend every lecture to stay on his good side. Very interesting class, highly recommended!
I never wanted to study psychology until I took Caine's 101 class. His 333 class is even better. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand, and explains them in an entertaining manner. His teaching style is eclectic, and may not be for everybody, but he his my favorite professor at BU. Also, go to his office hours, it's worth it!
Caine is awesome! He is very clear about material on midterms. If you participate you can get good extra credit. He's really entertaining and way easier than the other psych 101 professors.
Caine made what is arguably one of the harder topics in psychology fascinating and very understandable. I learned so much in all of his classes (PS 101, 333, and 231)! Drugs and Behavior with him was my favorite, but 231 was equally helpful in terms of helping me to advance my knowledge of the field and boost my GPA :) Take his classes! Best at BU.
Dr. Caine ROCKS, 3 exams which are straight form practice quizzes. Allen is the BEST TF i have ever had. I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful experience with them in my very last semester in BU, and i certainly will miss both of them. Take this course or any other Psych course with Caine and Allen, you wont regret.
PS231 is supposed to be the class no one does well in but Caine made it not only easy to understand but also fun! He took what is otherwise a difficult subject and really made it something you can understand His philosophy was to teach so you barely had to study and he did an incredible job doing this. His personal stories made the class a pleasure
Professor Caine's class was great! Made intro Psych interesting and clear and was one of those professors you just know will give an engaging lecture every time, not to mention he makes the class really easy. He gives midterm reviews the lecture before an exam which resemble the actual thing almost exactly. Super nice guy too. Highly recommend him.
Awesome course with awesome TF (Allen)! If he teaches ps231 for Spring 2016, I highly recommend you take it with him!
I had a horrible experience this class. He was so rude to me that I would have dropped his class then and there but I would have received a W grade. Ended with a C because he made the final worth FIFTY PERCENT OF YOUR FINAL GRADE. Who does that? I had an A the whole semester until that test. Worst class ever, would rather take Chem 101.
Great lecturer. Keeps things interesting with anecdotes , video and good examples. Somehow manages to simplify the content so that is easy to understand but is still interesting. He's just a great guy in general. He is concerned with the welfare of his students. Put in the effort and you will feel the benefits. Definitely recommend him.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had. Allen was the best TA imaginable and he will be dearly missed. I had Professor Caine for PS231, a class I thought was going to be inevitably boring, tedious, and difficult. It turned out to be my favorite class of the semester.
Best Prof. I had at BU ever. I took Caine's class and now I'm a psych minor for him - it has been the greatest choice I've made in my college. He's interesting and helpful in class. Easy material, clear explanation, and you will definitely pass the exam if you go to discussion. DON'T MISS HIM.
Best class I've taken, best professor I've ever had. He explains everything very clearly and tells you everything that's on the quizzes and exams. Not only is this class an easy A, it's fun and you actually learn a lot. You can also relate the material to everyday life because drugs are cool. Caine really knows what he's talking about too
Caine is the man. Learned a lot about drugs, all aspects of them. What you learn carries over into abnormal psych, and his lessons have stuck with me! Looked forward to lecture every day. Do not take the class with Kantak unless you want more science based teaching. Also go to office hours, Caine is an awesome guy!
To repeat what every student has said a million times, Caine is the best professor I've had at BU. He's the best educator and lecturer and has reminded me why I love learning. Really wish other professors in the psych department were like him. You will leave the class having learned SO MUCH pharmacology. He's engaging, funny, and overall incredible
His exams are the easiest exams you will ever be able to take at BU. Wanna take Psych 101 for Pre-Med and get an A? Don't take it Freshman year because there will be no spaces in Caines class, however Sophomore year you'll be able to find spots. I only showed up to class and got 100s.. Can be a little annoying with naming his courses on and on...
Great experience. Easy class if you pay attention. He has a lot of interesting stories that apply well. No homework (save studying).
Prof Caine is no doubt the most wonderful professor here at BU. I get a A- because I really do not study hard towards this course. He is a easy professor and will give you good grades if you really study hard. Very interesting lectures. He will win the world. Take PS101 with him. Very good.
Best Professor I've had at BU. I started 333 with Kantak the previous year and hated her and everything about her class and teaching style. Caine explains everything clearly and simply, and tells amazing stories. If you want to have a class to look forward to 2-3 times a week, take this course, take it with Caine. You will not regret it.
Caine clearly knows what he's talking about, and you WILL learn (basic) pharmacology if you take his class. He's informative & very clear about material. HOWEVER, he's extremely full of himself. If you question his lecture/how correct it is, he gets very defensive and rude. Additionally, he is often quite rude if you get questions wrong in class.
He is an amazing and passionate lecturer who cares a lot about his students and them doing well in the course. He offers extra credit just for participation. The concepts are hard but his exams are very clear and easy if you attend both lecture and discussion as he mentions what is going to be on the exam. Attendance is key. Textbook not used.
Okay, so I have ADHD. It's just a learning disorder. Doesn't mean I'm not smart; I'm at BU for God's sake. Thing is, with Prof. Caine, because he goes off on so many tangents, I don't get what we're talking about half the time. And I don't feel comfortable telling him about my ADD, because he seems a bit dismissive of me to begin with. So. Yeah.
Put in under 2 hours of studying time for each exam and managed to pull off an A-. Great TF. Didn't really pay attention in class because lecture were boring. Saw him during office hours and the guy couldn't stop talking about himself rather than answer any of my questions. Couldn't get a word in, don't think he's very good with social cues.
He's pretty unclear in lecture, but the outlines make the course an easy A so it's worth it to stick around. You can glance over them an hour before the exam and still manage to do well. He's also not really personable in office hours.
Prof. Caine is by far the best professor I've had yet. He is brilliant and so dynamic. I always look forward to going to lecture. He may seem arrogant or condescending but I think its part of his character. He stories are hilarious and he teaches so much content without it feeling overwhelming. (grade based on 2 multiple choice test, opt. final)
This is the third class I've taken with Dr. Caine. From what I've seen, people either love or hate him. Personally, I think he's an awesome professor. It's never a challenge paying attention in his class because he makes things so interesting. It's also REALLY clear that he just wants you to know the information, he never gives trick questions.
LITERALLY THE BEST PROFESSOR AND BEST COURSE AT BU.
I'd probably hate the material if I were failing. The prospective A makes things so interesting though. Would recommend
I think his lectures are engaging and its obvious he loves to teach this course. His stories are pretty interesting
Caine is amazing. his lecture are always interesting and funny. you do need to study and attend class to do well since notes aren't posted, but if you do both of those things you'll do fine! 10/10 would recommend this course to psych and non psych majors! so interesting and useful information.
He's one of the few that sincerely cares about you learning the material instead of memorizing for the pure sake of exam passing. 12/10 would recommend.
Amazing Class, wish I could take another class with him. Best Professor Ive ever had at BU.
Prof. Caine was amazing! Since PS 101 is an intro class the subject material isn't too in depth, but his research experience & personal commentary made class entertaining and stimulating. He knows his stuff and is always willing to answer questions. Discussion helpful for tests. Would LOVE to have him as a professor again in a higher level class!
Barak Caine is the bad boy of Neuroscience and Psychology. All one needs to do is sit back on the chair and enjoy the adventure (Participation helps). He might come across as rude or arrogant but he's a just a passionate teacher who does not teach for his salary or recognition. He's unique and unconventional. Don't miss the opportunity!
TAKE ALL HIS CLASSES! I took psych 101 with him for an easy A (it's the easiest A at BU) and fell in love with his teaching style. I'm a Math and CS major but have taken PS231 and PS333 with him just because I enjoy his lectures so much. If you remember material through anecdotes and personal stories, Caine is your guy.
He doesn't really have much of a teaching style. He does use personal anecdotes to get a point across, but most of the time they have nothing to do with the material. Not really helpful or personable in office hours, but I'd still recommend him over the alternatives because he's pretty easy
The class wasn't as great as I had hoped. The material is bland and his exam is more regurgitation than understanding. What I hated was how his diagrams were so old and blurry. I do not see how this course is a 5/5.
course is interesting, overlaps heavily with his ps333 course. He's bad with office hours and email. He's repetitive and disorganized.
By far my favorite class taken at BU so far.... 95% because of Caine. He is very engaging and promises to teach so that you remember even after the exam and that is accurate. I learned a lot from him and respect his teaching style and personality even though some consider him to be arrogant, he actually is really nice. Very good at what he does.
One of the best professors I've ever had. His teaching style is both unique and informative. He tells lots of anecdotes which I find to be very helpful in understanding drug-related content. Exams and quizzes are extremely fair. He is also a very interesting and funny guy. Truly deepened my interest in psychopharmacology.
Dr. Caine's explanation on the concepts is super clear. Personally he is a little bit intimidating in the class, but an awesome lecturer. Plus he is happy to talk to you after class. Don't expect an easy A but you will definitely learn a lot from his lecture.
Best class I ever took at BU. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Some people had trouble with it if they didn't have a background in Bio/physiology, but it's nothing that a little extra grinding couldn't help you with.
Best class I've taken at BU hands down. The material is fascinating, and Dr. Caine is really passionate about it. He makes lectures interesting with stories, examples, and videos. Everything that you need to know is on his outlines and he's very straightforward in lecture about what to expect. Take a course with Dr. Caine. You won't regret it.
If you can endure his tendency to talk about/review himself rather than lecture, the class is worth taking because it's an easy A.
the grading scale is so cutthroat that if you get more than 7 questions wrong over the course, you get an A- because the entire course is out of 100 points. Hard to gauge where you are at in the course because he hires people on the side to grade his work and they suck at entering it on blackboard in a timely manner. Overall a very stressful course
I liked we learned in class, but Dr. Caine was off track, and did not move at an appropriate and consistent pace. The second Midterm and the Final exam where on the same day, and their where many questions on both assessments that I am pretty sure we did not cover in class, and he always claimed that we would not be tested on other things. Not good
Amazing professor and definitely did a few stand-up gigs here and there. If you are a student that keeps on top of things, coast the waves and you will come out on top. Instruction is not too hard while also making sure students actually learn the material. Only shortcomings are the spontaneous tendencies and slow communication outside of class
Caine is by far my absolute favorite professor thus far. His lectures are always extremely informative, and really help to reinforce the material we read about within her outline reading assignments. He is absolutely hilarious and really cares a lot about his students and his dopamine research within his lab. His exams are reasonable if you study.
Barak is an inspirational and brilliant professor. Don't take 231 with him as a freshman since his teaching style might be hard to grasp for new students. He truly cares about his students IF YOU CARE about the class. Participation is key: he appreciates it and provides extra credit for it. You will leave with a better understanding of neuro.
This course is hard science, but dont worry cuz you have a wonderful prof. I did't believe it until I took his course, that science rocks
Caine is a unique professor. He loves what he is doing which I think inspires students. however he keeps mentioning that ps231 is his least favorite class to teach which is kinda demotivating. If you are into the stuff, you can learn a lot from him but if you're not, you can still pass with a good grade without learning much.
He's crazy but definitely the best of the best. His drugs/behavior class is one of the best courses you can take (Esp pre meds or anyone who wants to know about drugs); he's fun, keeps you interested, and as long as you go to class and listen/ take notes you'll do really well. He's funny and wants his students to do well. So smart/ teaches at Harv.
Take this class! His tests are easy if you show up, listen to what he has to say, and follow the outlines carefully. He's the most engaging professor I've had at BU. I never found myself having to put in much effort outside of class to get good grades because his stories actually help you remember the information that he tested on.
By far one of the BEST professor at BU. So intelligent and knowledgeable. His lectures are interesting and exams are super fair. ABSOLUTELY loved his class!
Barak was VERY intimidating at first but I grew to really love him. He is passionate, smart and engaging. I took his course during the summer and really enjoyed it. He is a fair grader too. Don't be afraid to speak up in his class, he likes when his students will engage.
Truly an unbelievable professor. I appreciate his teaching style, which genuinely makes me want to learn about the content. Weekly quizzes may seem annoying, but they make you nail the midterm and final. Thanks for everything Professor!
Dr. Caine is wonderful! He tells you exactly what will be on the exam so you don't have to shift through the entire material that you've learned, he is very clear in lectures, he draws diagrams and writes things out on the board to help visual learners, and he is fair in his grading. Highly recommend this course!
This is the most interesting course I have ever taken at BU. Prof. Caine is quite a character. In terms of the course- it is easy if you go to lectures and listen to the material- he tells you EXACTLY what you need to study. Caine himself is a charismatic instructor that cares very much about his field and his research, but he can be overwhelming.
His class was hard for me, as a psych major, who wasn't too familiar with Biology. It was also graded solely on 3 tests which were 33/34 points each so it was tough. He also talks about his personal life a lot.
Prof. Caine is a great professor. He certainly talks a lot about his personal life, especially about his daughter and fiancee, but the stories are always related to psychology. If you listen carefully during classes and take the practice quizzes in discussion, you will get a great score.
Professor Caine is easily the best professor I've had at college. He's incredibly knowledgable and is learning about neuroscience and psychological sciences constantly through new research papers and seminars. He really cares about his students doing well, not giving out a certain amount of A's or B's. 10/10 would take again.
There is no required textbook so if you miss lecture you miss out on material that will be on the test with no guaranteed way to make it up. His tests are straight forward although some of the material is difficult to understand. Caine is very good at explaining things in depth and really wants all of his students to do well. He's also really funny
Dr. Caine loves participation and believes that he creates an environment open to input. But, to me, he was the least approachable professor I had at BU. I think the reason he is bad at it is because he thinks he is great at it. But he is an amazing lecturer and makes me want to learn more about the field.
Professor Caine is one of the best at BU. His lectures are deliberate, you know exactly what he want you to learn and he makes sure most studying for his exams is done in class. He uses a lot of personal anecdotes but they are useful for remembering information. He is extremely enthusiastic and loves to teach. Would take every class he teaches
Dr. Caine is the quintessential cool professor. He claims his main goal is to be a better teacher with each semester and I believe it. The course is perfectly structured! He delivers the most riveting and captivating lectures I've ever had the pleasure to watch. I could not recommend him more heavily, he's an all-around perfect professor.
Barak is super funny and nice, he does tell a lot of personal stories to get his message through which i like because it makes it easier to remember. Had a rough start with him because i missed the first class due to being sick, thought he was a stuck up arrogant professor. He's professionalism got across to me as rude, but he's actually nice.
Love Dr. Caine! He's extremely straightforward, and everything he says is relevant to what you're learning. I was initially terrified to take this course since I was a psych minor rather than major, so the hard sciences aren't always my strengths, but thanks to him, I always felt confident going into exams, and excited to go to lecture.
Dr Caine is an amazing lecturer but can be very unapproachable and condescending if you try to talk to him in office hours. He teaches in a way that makes you really understand the concepts and his exams are fair if you pay attention in lecture. There is also an opportunity for extra credit.
Your entire grade is based on 3 examinations, so if you do not do so well on one exam, you are pretty much screwed. He also doesn't really do powerpoint slides, and mostly teaches through anecdotes, however he does give out very detailed outlines.
Caine is a GREAT professor. He is one of the smartest people I've ever met and he makes me want to know more each class he teaches. Honestly, I kind of wish the lectures were longer because they're so interesting. He talks REALLY fast so you definitely wont be able to take efficient notes with pencil and paper- I always use my laptop for notes.
Dr. Caine is the most amazing professor I've had at BU. He really cares about students' success and well-being. He really wants you to get an A and is very clear about how you can succeed in his class. His lectures are amazing and he is such a passionate and brilliant speaker. I can't wait to take PS333 with him next semester, I love him! :)
Pyschopharmacology was made easy with the organized & concise outlines, weekly quizzes, and interesting and interactive lectures. Caine cared about his students understanding the topics which is why participation was important in the class. I recommend this class it was very interesting and stressing about getting a good grade isn't important.
You should take Caine for PS231. If you put in a bit of effort you will get an A and have the base knowledge for Psychology. I personally couldn't pay attention that well in his lectures but the TF's review slides help you out. Practice quizzes every week which are no credit but prepare you for the exam!
I thoroughly enjoyed taking this course. It was graduate level drug classifications made easy with organized outlines and interesting lectures. Professor Caine cares about his students mental health and if you are having any difficulties he's always willing to help. If you go to class and participate you will not only do well but also learn a lot.
Dr. Caine is a teacher I've dreamt to be taught by. His methods of explaining and teaching complicated neuro/biology concepts are very approachable and dummy-friendly (das me!) It's very difficult to fall asleep in his class and I'm a student who shamelessly sleeps in class. He's very understanding too!
Honestly and unironically the best professor at BU. No need to say more.
Here's what I will say: Dr. Caine is a charismatic lecturer. Unfortunately, his energetic anecdotes come at the cost of actual teaching - very little content delivered per class, and most of it is muddled/disorganized. His classes are ridiculously easy as a result - he basically tells you the answers to test questions beforehand. He's p rude, too.
After a conversation I had with him, I started to dread going to class. Worst experience I've had with a professor. The TF really saved me. I wish I had taken the class with someone else. The class itself is structure to be incredibly easy though, so if you need an easy A, just show up. You'll get it. VERY little effort required.
You love him or you hate him. He really wants everyone to succeed and if you go to class, study, and put in any effort to learn the material you can get an A. That makes it sound like you don't learn anything though, but I've learned more in this class than any class I've ever taken. Very engaging lectures, they fly by, just accept his personality
tried to email him about getting anxious during exams, both him and the TF ignored me. very test heavy, with nothing else factored into your grade. if you are not a good test taker and have difficulty memorizing info, take with someone else! hard tests, even though i studied. pretty condescending and hard to approach. dont take ps231 w caine.
Professor Caine is a ROCK STAR. He spends so much time/energy/effort explaining concepts that if you show up ready to learn, you can really succeed! Study hard and enjoy learning from such an incredible teacher. I've learned way more in his class than any other at BU.
I have taken both PS 231, 333 with Dr. Caine. He is a polarizing figure you either love him (90% class btw) or hate him. He is one of the few professors in BU who teaches very effectively that you will remember stuff even after 10 years. The things that we cover in his classes are very interesting that you will definitely share with friends.
Professor Caine is awesome! Honestly the easiest A I've ever received, but his teaching style actually forces you to learn. He has really clear grading criteria and actually cares about his students, though he is a bit all over the place with scheduling. Definitely take him if you can!
Caine is honestly my favorite teacher I've had at BU. He is so funny and kind and his lectures are AMAZING. Definitely necessary to take notes by hand, come to ALL lectures, and pay attention at all times to get an A in this class. I love Caine so much and you should definitely take him if you have the opportunity, his was my favorite class by far.
He is passionate about the subject. His tests are all memorization, lacking critical thinking. His personal skills are lacking. Not friendly in office hours.
My favorite professor at BU. Definitely take him if you can for NE333! The course is heavily centered around the lectures but he makes them so entertaining. Students retain the information. So interesting.
The rudest professor I ever encountered in college. Thought he was great at first. But he makes his bad days other people's problem. Professionalism is an issue here.
Show up and you'll pass. You don't need to speak in this class. You don't need to listen. Literally. You can do nothing. And you will be ok.
Only two exams worth 80% of your grade. 20% quizzes. If you're not a good test taker this will be hard for you. Amazing lecture, he's funny and great stories. His exams are hard and if you miss a lecture good luck!!!!
Dr. Caine is absolutely phenomenal and my favorite professor at BU! PS333 is a very hard class, but Dr. Caine's lectures are incredibly effective and what you learn really stays with you. I have learned so much in this class and he inspired me to want to conduct research in the field of pharmacology. 100% stellar professor!
A great lecturer that keeps class fun and interesting. Extremely informative with interesting side stories and experiences that helps us understand the concepts he's teaching. Highly recommend his class, but get ready to take notes.
Dr. Caine is by far the best at BU. Incredibly interesting and effective lectures. You can get 2 extra credit points just by participating. Scores are calculated based on points and not %. DON'T buy the book but take good notes!Write down everything he says and you will ace all quizzes and exams. Exams are very doable if you study from your notes!
Dr. Caine has to be the most simultaneously informative and entertaining professors I've had in my college career. The course is relatively straightforward (Caine doesn't throw curveballs or try to trick you) just be sure to take detailed notes and write down everything he says in class! He gives out detailed outlines to help guide your notes!
Caine is the kind of professor you want as a friend. This class was graded on 2 exams ALONE (and WEEKLY quizzes) so if you did bad on one exam you could not get an A + the quizzes are annoying. but its caine, so its your best chance of getting an A
Professor Caine is one of my favorite professors at BU. Although attendance is not required, his lectures are always so interesting and funny that I wouldn't ever think to skip. There is no homework for this class and it is graded by four exams (and they are not cumulative!!!). Even though I got a B+, I still think it is an easy A class for others.
Oh boy. Where do I even start. This man I'm sure is a good person outside of the academic realm. And he's brilliant, I'll give him that no question. But.... I'm sorry.... going on tangents about personal, unrelated stories EVERY lecture is a no from me dawg. He takes out his bad mood others and doesn't try to help his students. And thats the tea.
Professor Caine tries to make lecture more fun in person (and online this semester), but sometimes, he does go off tangent. Lecture is not mandatory, but if you still want to do well in class, then you should go to class or discussion since his exams are worth most of your grade and the TF goes over what went on in lecture too.
Professor Caine was one of my favorite professors. He makes the information applicable and brings in real life examples that keep you engaged and so entertained. He really cares about his students, and likes to have discussions and conversations about topics students find interest in. You can definitely succeed and do well if you study!
Caine is a fantastic teacher! He is also clearly very knowledgeable about psych, makes this class really interesting. He is also really funny! Attendance is not mandatory, exams are fairly easy, definitely recommend!
Third class taken with Professor Caine. He's a brilliant guy hired from Harvard as a lecturer. He's the reason I want to pursue science as a career.
Ok so Caine really is a good professor in terms of his passion and wanting to really get his students excited about neuroscience. This class was just very new to hims and his TF wasn't very helpful to the students or to him from an outsiders perspective. A little condescending and proud but he's wicked smart and his background is insane.
Caine is an amazing professor! He's very clear with what he expects from assignments and all his exams are based on his outlines. As long as you attend his lectures and pay attention, you'll do well.
I truly love Dr. Caine, he is an amazing professor. He teaches materials in a thoughtful and insightful manner. He is very approachable and understanding. Yes he can be condescending, but he has a right to be because of how great of a guy he is. He deserves all the grants possible for his research. Amazing fellow.
He was such a sweet professor, not homework, grade was only made up of four tests that were super straight forward and easy. Definitely take his class if you are looking for a fun professor and an easy A. Peace Love Caine! <3
Prof Caine makes lectures very interesting. Everyone asks frequent questions and are often intrigued with the material. This class is only graded on 4 tests, so make sure you study the review guides hard! There is no homework (except for the studying for the tests).
Caine is a great person and professor. You can tell how much he cares about the subject he teaches and he makes the lessons interesting and memorable. He provides outlines to help you follow along with the lecture, and there isn't homework. However, the course is graded on only four exams so study hard and you'll be alright!
Y'all, I love this man. I learn so much from him. He never tries to trick you on exams. He's pretty quirky and his stories are hilarious. He is very respectful and is also trying to get better at being inclusive (using content warnings, gender-neutral language) which is awesome! I would love to take more classes with him. Highly, highly recommend!
Amazing professor! Lectures were super interesting and not boring at all. Quizzes once a week and two exams overall. Listening to his lectures is SUPER IMPORTANT if you want to pass this class. Textbook is not needed, you can study directly from his outlines. Overall, amazing class (Drugs & Behavior), 100% recommended.
Barak is AMAZING. He TELLS you what's on the exams. I slept through most of his lectures (despite them being interesting) and I still got an A-. He's very understanding and lenient. You can get the textbook if you want, but he makes outlines based on it so you don't need it. Definitely take this class for an easy A and if you want a good professor.
Caine is an amazing professor and he truly loves this topic. His stories are great and if you don't mind tangents, you'll be highly entertained. He gives outlines for each topic that tells you almost exactly what you'll be tested on. The information is super cool and relevant, and I highly recommend this class!
Your grade is entirely based on exams, but they are non-cumulative and the outlines he makes tell you almost everything you need to know. His lectures are interesting and the topic isn't very challenging, so I would recommend.
This man is a gift and must be protected. Caine is such a good lecturer and storyteller, and can somehow explain a topic without having to repeat himself. PS333 is graded fairly but only on weekly quizzes (20%) and 2 midterms (80%!). Thankfully they aren't too difficult. If you are taking any psychology class, take him if available. He's amazing!
Professor Caine made me like psychology courses again. He is so energetic, understanding, and smart. He really loves teaching and has so many stories to tell. His exams are how exams should be: straight and to the point. If you listen to his stories and info in class the exams and quizzes should be easy. I really wish he taught other courses
Hilariously offbeat, super engaging lectures. There are no textbooks, so his slides and listening to his lectures MATTER (but he tells you some potential quiz questions if you're paying attention ;)), but everything is straightforward and if you go to class, it'll be an easy class to pass.
Caine is a great all around professor, but not sure this class is his forte. 333 is clearly where he shines, but this class was good and straightforward. He always finds a way to make things interesting so I would recommend this class. Had 10 quizzes, 2 exams, and 2 small writing assignments to make up your grade.
Absolutely hilarious, masterful lecturer, amazing story teller, and is ridiculously knowledgeable. Gives an outline for each unit, take notes on it as he goes thru his lectures and you will be fine for quizzes and test. Everything is multiple choice. One of the funniest AND most talented professors I've had at BU. 10/10.
Great! take his class if u want to get an A.
Absolutely, the best professor at BU! I didn't make any mistakes in the exam. He would tell you what the important points you should know in the class. The best way for you study is to read the outline before the class and then fill some details and specific explains into your notes. I love his class and am willing to take more his classes.
Amazing professor. Stress-free class and light workload. Exams are very easy as long as you take notes and fill out the outlines. One writing assignment for 4 marks, and the exams make up for the rest. Would not dread taking him at all.
Professor Caine is the best Professor that I had this semester, I already registered for another class of his. He is so funny and makes his lectures very engaging. It was very nice because he told us that if we miss a day because we're sick there is no reason to worry. He is extremely understanding and wants his students to pass. 10/10 recommend!!
Dr. Caine is a great professor! His class is by no means "easy" or effortless, but it's accessible, and if you put the work in, you should do just fine. He's engaging and open and understanding, and one of the best professors I've had. I'm going to miss him when he leaves!
Dr. Caine was a great professor! :D He made the class both in-depth while simultaneously keeping topics easy to understand. He's a fun guy with fun lectures and a pretty easy class.
Dr. Caine is amazing!!! You need to take the class if you want to learn the basics of psychology while not having to study much (just make sure to attend class). Your grade is made up of 4 non-cumulative exams, and he doesn't give extra credit or homework. Classes were always entertaining and worth going to, especially if you want to laugh.
Dr. Caine is a legend! Awesome lecture and optional discussion. If you study before the exams you'll be fine. Easy A. One of the best class I have ever take and one of the best professor ever!
Super easy tests, slides are a bit disorganized. A nice guy during lecture but his attitude after class makes me feel like he's not that willing to devote his time and help. Very intelligent guy though.
You can tell professor Caine truly enjoys Psychology! He does his best to make class as interesting and easy as possible. Only four exams and he gives clear outlines and review slides and theres no cumulative final exam. I would recommend taking his class!
Super easy A; lectures are chill but you can skip all of them and still get an A pretty easily.
A super easy class-- Caine cares a lot about his students and prioritizes us. I still learned so much and this class is a great intro to psych. 1000% recommend Caine! Also, for the tests, just study from the review slides.
Makes PS101 really simple
Such an intelligent person. Clearly so knowledgeable in the field. Exams were exactly like the outlines, no surprises. 4 exams, including a non-cumulative final. Such a good class will be taking him again !! Best professor I've had at BU. Truly an amazing lecturer and accessible outside of class.
Take this course if you want a A
He's a great professor. His lectures are extremely engaging. The exams are extremely lecture-heavy. You should attend the lectures and take a lot of notes because the exams are mainly based on that. He's really approachable as well and his exams are all MCQs
I took Caine knowing 0 about him before and would take him a million times over. You can tell he genuinely loves what he's doing and cares about his students. Only having four tests as your grade can be stressful so keep up with outlines and make quizlets. Very understanding also. Take him if you can!
Fun and educational lectures, fair grading.
Caine is a great professor - he is extremely engaging in his lectures. If you don't go to lectures, they are not recorded and you will not do well on exams because he tells you what is going to be on them in lecture. I did not go to a single discussion this semester and I did good in the class. Tests are very easy.
Caine is absolutely amazing! The lectures are extremely interesting and his teaching style is awesome! This is his area of expertise and it really shows. We have weekly quizzes and two exams with an opportunity for extra credit. The class can be challenging, but using the study guide and putting in work outside the course will make it a breeze!
Caine is one of my favorite professors at BU! This course is by far where he shines most. The lectures are interesting and engaging, and his personal experiences allow for a greater understanding of the topic. The class can be somewhat challenging, but completing the study guide and setting aside time outside of class to study makes it much easier!
Probably one of my favorite professors at BU, despite only having him for one semester. He is extremely knowledgeable and makes lectures informative, but not boring. You don't need the textbook or discussion classes to do well, but they help a lot if you ever get stuck on anything. Attend lecture and pay attention and you'll be just fine
Very engaging
Prof Caine is so much fun to listen to. tips for success, go to lectures it might be easy to skip but he says so many things during lecture that will be on the exam and sometimes that makes the difference between an entire letter grade. his tests are on blackboard and this is useless information but you can split screen. he will look away.
